We come here a lot for Sunday dinners. The service is good when it's not busy. When it's fully booked out and seated, they can be very disorganised. The foods are generally tasty and fresh. The staffs love to convince you to order seafood from the aquarium, but they are not overly pushy.

We will go back again for sure, but maybe not on any special day.

This is always our go-to for yum cha when we are in Glen Waverley or the SE suburbs. Food is always consistently fresh and good, service is friendly and attentive unlike some Hong Kong yum cha places that could be arrogant and hassled. Seatings are limited - so if you are coming during weekends and public holidays, bookings are strongly recommended!

If you have me, you want to share me. If you share me, you haven’t got me.

…a secret. As Secret Kitchen returns after being changed to Wonton Kitchen previously, it’s traditional Cantonese and Yum Cha dishes comes back better than before. Ordering multiple dishes, each were created in traditional fashion; the aroma sizzling of the hot pot, the perfect flavours of the sauces, portions were generous, dishes come out quickly and the textures of the meat and vegetables was love at first bite. With helpful staff confident in both English and Chinese languages, service was attentive despite being a full-house. The ambiance is average as it is located within a walkway with pedestrians passing by despite being enclosed by fence, Not by any faults to the restaurant and staff but my only tip is to try and avoid seats closest to the back doors as the scent of cigarette smokers can blow in (if you wish to avoid smoke).

We had a set meal ordered for two ($35) and you get two main dishes (Signature Won Ton egg noodle and Beef Brisket and Won Ton egg noodle), 2 drinks (Ice Milk Tea and Ice Lemon Tea) and 1 dim sum (ribs). In addition we also ordered another Beef Brisket and Won Ton egg noodle as there were 3 of us.

It was amazing, especially when you crave for a taste of HK, the broth was amazing and could tell a lot of effort was spent in making the broth. The Won Ton tasted delicious, not your typical frozen Won Ton. Although the noodle portion and the dim sum were small compared to other Chinese restaurants, everything was worth it since it tasted so authentic.

The atmosphere was great and staff was quick to attend to your need. I also love how they put lemon in water because it just gives you such an unexpected and refreshing taste. Will be back! 😊

Secret Kitchen is a popular Melbourne Cantonese yum cha restaurant, also featuring a great range of traditional Chinese a la carte dining options and a delectable seafood menu. Boasting outlets across Melbourne CBD, Doncaster, Chadstone and Glen Waverley, we were very excited to be able to dine at their open-space venue at Glen Waverley. Overall, the service was speedy, their yum cha had several specialty dishes and the environment was so vibrant and bustling – it was so busy for a Thursday lunch time when the rest of the shopping centre was quiet.

After a long day at work, hubby and I went to try Secret Kitchen in Glen Waverley. We have passed this place before and finally had the chance to pop by.

It has the tradition Chinese restaurant vibe with an urban twist. Even in the busy Central City Walk, hubs and I could have a peaceful and romantic evening.

We tried the traditional peking duck, crispy calamari in spicy salt and pepper, lettuce cup with chicken and another with duck, the pork belly with preserved vegetables. For dessert we ordered deep fried durian puff and deep fried ice cream.

Overall we really enjoyed our meal and are looking forward to trying their yum cha À la cart menu!

Very yummy and tasty. Had the peeking duck, calamari, lettuce cup, hot pot braised pork belly and fried ice cream. My favourite was definitely the calamari! Would come back to try other dishes. Very friendly staff

We loved our food at the Secret Kitchen! The service was outstanding! Would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant and would definitely come back. Before our meal, they provided with free prawn crackers and a plate of fruits after our meal. Service was fast and staff was very friendly and helpful!

Consistent with other stores in this chain. Wonton soup or dry is stellar, fresh prawns in the wontons really make it good. A good range of other menu options make it a great group restaurant option. Service is a bit rushed and 'couldnt care less' but this is Kingsway.

Stepped in here for the first time. Ordered the braised beef with won ton, dry noodles. It came with a soup that was pretty tasty. I could taste the prawn head that was used for flavor. The noodles were springy and very nicely cooked. The braised beef was tender and falling apart, very tasty. Wontons had fresh prawns and above average. It was priced above $12 so I was expecting something better than the run of the mill. Overall good experience. I'll be back to try something else.

Definitely a good enough place for a quick dim sums fix. Great varieties of food and I really love their braised chicken feet. Dumplings were good too but some can be quite soggy.

Came on a public holiday and had a 10% surcharge. Place is nice and new with inviting, modern interiors compared to a lot of the asian places in Glen. Friendly staff and food is surprisingly well seasoned and tasted quite nice. Portion sizes are also decent.

We've been here several times and I'd say the yum cha is above average. Service is average to good, but we come mostly for the variety of dim sum available. Love the durian pudding and golden sands bun. And the turnip cake is one of my favourites.

This is the third times we've been to this yum cha placa. We went there on a Saturday lunch and we lucky to find a table for two and were quickly sitted. We started eith the chicken feet which were yummy, however we would prefer them to tune up the flavour a little bit more. Next we go the steamed rice roll with prawns and prawn fried rice rolls with mayo, both were delicious. The prawns were definitely fresh as the meat was very firm and tasted great! We finished with some baked char siu buns which were great but could be a bit less sweet. The liu sha bao (salted egg yolk buns) were definitely delectable as well! We were sitted at the corner and were often skipped by the yum cha trolleys, the service was not that great as well - if not we would give this place a 4. Overall, it's definitely one of the better yum cha places in Melb.

Food : exceptionally good yum cha. Both their steamed and fried varieties of dim sum were of high quality. Of note were the prawn dumplings and prawn spring rolls. They also sell a special variety of rice noodle roll with Chinese crullers which was delicious. For durian lovers, the durian puff pastry is really nice, crispy pastry on the outside and full of durian goodness on the inside.
Ambience : Seating is around the courtyard area of Century City Walk, so it's rather noisy and definitely not private.
Service : Good, the dim sum was served quickly once we ordered it.

Deceptively good.
I say this because it's a restaurant within a "mall courtyard" and doesn't even have the standard four walls.
Used to always walk past and not want to dine here because of that, but came here one day wanting a good yumcha feed, and having not gotten a seat at Hong Kong Dim Sum across the road.
This place is MUCH MUCH better than HK dimsum. Very satisfying yumcha and doesn't disappoint.
Try it.

The food is really great here, the flavors are delicious and great service. Only downside is it costs a LOT of money. Expect to pay about $80-90 for takeaway for a family of 5 (eating in costs the same price)

Was there on Sunday morning for a family member birthday brunch celebration. I heard alot of good things about secret kitchen Glen Waverly; hence we decided to venture out for some yumcha.
We were quickly seated( there was 12 of us) when we arrived at 11am. They have 3 separate sessions which begin at 11am, 1230pm and 2pm. The food was good; i particularly loved their porkbun and the prawn dumplings. The prawn dumplings werent too doughy and the filling was so moist. The sweet potato egg tarts were interesting and tasted great as well! Although it kinda feel like we were rushed into leaving at 1230pm sharp; i wouldnt complain as the dining area isnt too huge and there was already a line waiting. Will surely return if i do go out to that side of town again.

Definitely a good and popular place for yum cha. Har gaw specially in good quality and good selection for steam dishes. Only be careful of what marking v ordering for yum cha.

Went on Easter Saturday morning and realise they have 3 seatings. Notably they are very "busy". Got a bit rushed and was asked upon sit down to "give them back the table asap".

Well, we knew what we wanted and it was only 3 of us so we ordered the dim sum we couldn't see. When I saw the bill I noticed they both tick on the paper and charged us menu prices for ordering dishes. The lady manager was unconvince telling us her staff would not mark if we order. And asked for proof that it was marked and order.

Well we never order from the menu so all things should be marked in delivery. I was quite annoyed that she kept saying we ordered. I only ordered because she wanted us out quickly, I could have just sat and wait for the dim sum to come around when they want to.

Would have given a higher rating if not for the argument we have to had at the end. Yum cha = mark on delivery. How annoying having to argue against prefer we didn't order!

UPDATE - 11/01/2017

We had a most delicious yumcha here today. They seem to have upped their game by a huge margin. The beef innards were bursting with flavour, having absorbed all the seasoning and spices and yet not over-cooked to oblivion, still retaining a chewy texture. The scallop dumplings, siu mai, har gao and prawn cheong fan were all hiding inside them huge juicy fresh prawns, each bit elicit a satisfied sigh from all of us. The simple congee was also a highlight - smooth creamy texture, with hints of flavour from the century egg, pork and sesame oil. If they keep up such great work, I don't see why we should head elsewhere for yumcha. An improved in the rating previously given is well-deserved by them.

-----------------------------------------------------
Just like all other Secret Kitchen's yum cha session, the first thing you need to remember is to make a booking. Actually I think this applies to yum cha at most places. However, this one proves to be especially true as seating is less compared to other yum cha places due to its location being in the atrium of Century City Walk. I am pretty impressed with the use of space here. The usual suspects are the fail-safe dishes here - chicken feet, cheong fan, siu mai, har gao and the delicious durian puff pastry. I however personally prefer the beef innards from Gold Leaf or Wealth Garden over SK's version. This branch also has less variety compared to Doncaster's SK as the kitchen here is much smaller and is unable to make that many variety of dishes onsite.

Have been here a few times now. A bit pricey but worth it. Another a top place for barramundi. The variety of dishes is excellent and I haven't been disappointed. A particular favourite is the dried scallop fish soup for entree and the eggplant with mince meat is also very tasty.

Chicken feet √

Sitting under the skylight √

Pricey (but worth it).

Afterwards we all felt good, not heavy.

We'll be back.

Good quality yum cha. Yum cha range not as substantial as Doncaster outlet, but the a la carte is better. Food is usually fresh tasting, but limited seating in weekend

Came here twice, once for yumcha during lunch and once for dinner. During lunch, carts are pushed around and you order what catches your eye. However due to a large crowd during this time, there is little time for clarification before they move on to the next table. Most of the staff speak Cantonese so non-cantonese speakers are sometimes at a disadvantage when trying to order quickly. It should be noted no a la carte dishes can be ordered during this time. During dinner there are less dimsum items available on the a la carte menu however main dishes can be ordered. Service at dinner time is more friendly and staff are more inclined to offer recommendations. Great dishes include the sliced beef wok fried hor fun, egg custard steamed bun, durian puff.

This is, hands down, the best place for yum cha in Glen Waverley in terms of food quality. However, it's also the home of the most expensive yum cha in Glen Waverley. Situated in a sectioned off corner in the Century City Walk arcade, what it lacks in ambiance, it makes up for in their delicious treats. Their liu sha bao was on point. The flowing, subtly salty golden lava combined with the delicate sweetness of the bun was so well done. Another recommendation would be their durian pastry. Unlike other restaurants which has the tendency to add too many ingredients to their durian filling, making it sticky sweet, Wonton House keeps their filling simple, allowing for the natural flavours of the durian to compliment the crisp pastry.

But for $100 for four, is it worth it?

Although the seating arrangement is not the best, the menu selection is quite unique. My favourite includes Three Cup
Chicken (san bei ji: chicken pieces cooked with soy sauce, rice wine, and sesame oil, and loaded with garlic cloves, slices of ginger and basil), braised pork belly with preserved vegetables in claypot.

This yum cha is situated in Century City Walk and it’s actually quite a nice place to sit and relax. Again, we went on a weekday so it’s a bit unfair to compare but I’d say their dim sum overall isn’t as good as some of the other places BUT they do make a fantastic radish puff. The same pastry can also be encasing durian if that’s your thing (it tastes great!). There’s another one in Westfield in Doncaster with pretty good views.
