Review Pounders Burgers - Glen Waverley

Harshil Derashri
This place looked promising from the reviews however, it wasn't all that great. On a positive note, the onion rings were crunchy and well cooked. The fries were also pretty decent albeit a bit greasy. One that caught me by surprise was the quality of the Kit Kat milkshake that we ordered. It was much lower quality than something from Macca's and cost twice as much ($12.95). Opting to dine in, I was expecting a milkshake glass or something more presentable however, the milkshake was served in a plastic cup and tasted like plain milk with specs of kit kat. The chicken tenders were overcooked and extremely tough and dry. We ordered two different flavours of tenders, both of which were pretty bad. However the lowlight was the spicy wings (red ones) that was doused in sriracha alone. I do enjoy spicy food however, the spices should accompany the food not straight up overpower everything else. This was way too much chilli sauce and I ended up leaving about 90% of it untouched. The other tenders with kewpie mayo were at a similar standard. However, the chicken was inedible. It was dry, hard and tasteless. The only flavour was that of black pepper as there was too much black pepper used. I'd give this one a miss, there are plenty of places in Glen that would be better quality and better value.

Got some takeaway burgers from here on a Friday night after lockdown had lifted, the floor was sticky, the seating did not look inviting, and the online ordering process was really delayed. The food itself was alright, onion rings were cooked well but the burgers were lathered in too much sauce and the buns were a little too thick for my liking. Staff were friendly though

Bad experience, I asked for an extra patty... the sandwich came with only half patty, yes!!!, I had to eat half of my sandwich with only lettuce, sauce and jalapenos. I order a large meal, the chips were old, thanks God there was no problem with the softdrink...

Very good burgers. 'Old Mate' burger is so tasty. Good alternative for the chips is the eastern spice chips. Very good. Have had a few times now. Nice people as well.

They open super late so if you are dying for something to eat late at night it's pretty amazing, chips were great and burger was juicy and hit the spot

My order was 1 hour late. I called the restaurant to find out what the hold up was and I was hung up on. My food ended up arriving pretty late and it was disgusting! The chips were burnt, the Pattie was burnt and the food was cold. I called back and told the guy about the food and he told me that's fine because he knew doordash would cover the costs of the refund. And they did. Very poor from the restaurant.

Went with an alternative delivery platform to normal today and discovered Pounders burgers for the first time. While the platform provided woeful service ended up taking 90 minutes for the delivery ( and requiring Pounder to remake my meal)... when it finally did arrive I was really impressed with the quality and value for money of their burgers. We had the Burger Off burger in beef ( also available in Chicken) and the Hot Mama chicken burger which was a juicy juicy burger. The onion rings were crispy and beer battered chips also very good. Would definitely have again but would order directly next time as they offer free delivery and a discount on their own website.

This was a Menulog pickup for Pounders’ affiliated “Krispy Chook” fried chicken section.

The Gangnam and original fried wings are amazing. Not ketchup-like, like other less authentic Korean places. Even though this joint does not advertise heavily to be in Korean style, the flavours are similar and the chicken is crisp. The tenders are also great value for money, but they are a little bland (we ordered the legendary flavour).

Overall, great feed and all sauces (Korean sauce seems to just be gochujang) are delicious.

Some great staff they have. Truly wonderful and amazing people. One of the few places that I've been to where I feel like home. P.s : The Philly cheesesteak here is worth dying for.

Good marketing but average food.

The pictures looked fantastic but was disappointed. The burger was soggy. It was like the bun was not toasted.

Milkshake was tasteless. Not sweet. Will not be be coming back here.

[11/06/2020]

Ratings:
- Food: 8/10
- Service: 10/10
- Value: 7/10
- Cleanliness: 9/10
- Atmosphere: 9/10

OVERALL: 8/10

The restaurant is well advertised; looking at the their ‘Philly Cheesesteak’ on DoorDash had me instant craving for one. I arrived at the restaurant at around 2.50am, just after their kitchen is supposed to close (NOTE: restaurant closes at 3.00am but kitchen closes earlier at 2.45am). The staff taking my order was kind enough to let me order despite their register closing times. When they misunderstood my order, despite their restaurant being already closed, the staff politely and calmly corrected the order. That’s some excellent customer service right there (11/10!).

The ‘Philly Cheesesteak’ lived up to my expectations and satisfied my every craving for it. The steak was nicely barbecued and I was able to taste the smokiness of it. The cheese was melting perfectly and the size was generous (bigger in surface area than a foot-long sub from Subway). However, even though there was some spicy mayonnaise in it, towards the end of the sandwich sub, it got rather dry. I suggest adding more sauce towards the end or more sauce in the whole sandwich. Other than that I had a great dining experience. Great job guys! Keep up the good work 👍👍

Located right next to Syndal station, this is a new burger place in the neighbourhood. I was xcited when they first open- but not so much after my visit.

The menu was very limited- not too many options. It would be great if they do salad also. The bun is too big and thick for my liking.

The beef and chicken were nicely done, juich and tender. Chips were crispy.

Generally speaking, people would prefer heading to YOMG burger given that it's only 2 min drive away. The customer service was nice tho. I don't think I have a compelling reason to go back sorry.

Truly a hidden gem in Syndal, wish i knew about this place earlier!! Amazing food and amazing atmosphere! Will definitely be coming back for more!!

Great food and great atmosphere

Solid burger joint. Fresh and thick beef patties. Crispy chips and good milkshakes, that would be better if they were thickshakes.

Went there using groupon voucher. When we came, there was no one at the cashier. The only staff visible was cooking in the kitchen. There was a customer already seated waiting for the food. We seated ourselves and looked at the menu. Basically that only staff was taking orders and cooked too. We were rather worried that it would take ages for us to be served as people come in and out, some had takeaways. We got a old mate burger and asked the other burger to be exchanged with buffalo wings. The chips portion was sooo generous, and not bad chips either. The buffalo wings are really nice, crispy and had beautiful sauce and a little bit spicy. The burger was beautiful and moist with lots of sauce. Overall good experience.

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, soothing music and of course very tasty food. They tick all boxes to have good fast food restaurant. I would rather like to see quick serving but as per restaurant management, they cook meat from raw instead of half cook which takes them more time to cook fresh and juicy burgers which is fine for me as far as I am eating something freshly cook burger. This is must visit restaurant..

Unable to keep up with orders due to Groupon, cold burgers and bad order service. We waited more than an hr to get our order right. I suggest rehiring a new girl to take orders, get a better chef that can do the job and if you can’t keep up with the orders then don’t do Groupon to get attention. People were feeling frustrated and left asking for refunds. I’ve had better burgers around the area with no fuss. Last but not least, the burger patty are quite charred burnt... way to get cancer consuming it. Just being honest.

Another burger place added to favourites. Been 3 times already. Love their burgers. The $24 group on deal was just amazing. Philly cheesesteak and the chikky parma are highly recommend. Definitely coming back again

Nice and friendly staff, very nice burgers, beef burger is much better chicken burger, do recommended, I have been there twice using Group On vouchers !

Order a Philly cheesesteak and boy was I disappointed. It was a Turkish roll with not thinly sliced beef as I thought it would have been but thick strips of steak and it was quite spicy as well. It was way too much bread for a Philly cheesesteak and just not the right texture to use. Wouldn’t call it Philly cheesesteak.

Its Friday night, it’s been a long week and sometimes all you need is a good burger. So we headed to the newest burger shop on the block, Pounders. Nestled amongst the hustle and bustle of Glen Waverley, Pounders is a humble burger shop that offers simple tasty burgers done right.

Sitting down and a little hungry, we may have went a little overboard and had our way with the menu, because you know – we love our burgers. We’ll give you the rundown of what we thought…

We started simple with just a few sides, Juddy’s Buffalo Wings, Beer Battered Chips, Onion Rings and you know a little something extra that was off menu – Chicken Strips that came with Coleslaw and Fries.

Juddy’s Buffalo Wings
We had the spicy wings covered in saucy goodness, be prepared to get your hands dirty! If you love wings you’ll love these.

Beer Battered Chips
Simple straight forward good old fashioned chips that will go great well with whatever burger you order.

Onion Rings
These took us back to old school burger shops and we loved them every last one.

Chicken Strips
These off menu strips were great, we definitely recommend it – comes with a simple mayo dipping sauce that goes really well together.

Done with the sides we moved on to why we were really there, a few burgers. With so many delicious sounding burgers to choose from we had to get some help, so we asked the people that know best – the guys behind the counter who recommended the Burger Off, Yank Tank, Hot Mama and a Philly Cheesesteak and this would give us a taste of everything.

Burger Off
Simple straight forward burger that was deliciously simple, a great burger to start out on.

Hot Mama
Wanting to break up all the beef we opted to try a little spicy chicken, the Hot Mama had a nice spicy bite to it.

Yank Tank
Double up on the beef and cheese, add bacon and some BBQ sauce and you got yourself a burger to beat the hunger.

Philly Cheesesteak
This one is not like the others, while the Cheesesteak is not a burger it is a great addition to the menu. Channelling its roots, the Cheesesteak is smothered in melted cheese and juicy strips of steak, surrounded by a soft crispy roll. We definitely recommend this for anyone stopping in or not wanting a burger.

On a side note, we loved the way they put together their burgers, from the bottom up – bun, lettuce, mayo, patty/chicken, sauces, anything else that might be take your fancy and capped off with the other half of the bun. Sounds straight forward but keeping things separated allows you taste everything. Think about it and try it for yourself, you won’t be disappointed.

All in all we ate too much but it was worth it for tasty burgers and spicy wings. Now you know a little more about the burgers, here’s the cherry on top. Pounders knows you love a late night snack so they stay open late (usually around 3am) so you can get your burger fix any time you like – you can head on in or order via Uber Eats and don’t forget to get a side of wings they won’t disappoint.

This was after a 30% eatclub offer that I had received. A newly put up spot and a nice setting. Good ambience for a casual dining spot with a group of friends or a friend.

I was so hungry that day and I went for their hit wings and the yank tank as proposed by the nice lady at the counter. The wings weren't that hot despite numerous warnings before ordering it, and the chicken was undercooked with bloody coloured bones. Finished them despite the risk of salmonella. Very ordinary and wouldn't recommend it as a customer of gami chicken.

Going into the yank tank, 2x beef patty, bacon and American cheddar. This was such a gooood burger. All juices oozing out of the burger and the taste was heavenly. No complains at all there.

Wish they stopped wings and stuck to their burgers as they're so damn good!

Ordered from here twice now and both times really enjoyed the burgers. The presentation was a hot mess, but given the amount of sauce and fillings not hard to see why.

We absolutely enjoyed the burgers and it was perfectly seasoned, spicy & full of flavour.

Keep it up! Yum!
Food was all good but buying the philly cheese steak and the spicy buffalo wings and selling them as hot🌶🌶🌶 not at all. Would give another go off the menu though

Put The Kettle On
This place is opposite Syndal train station. Their Burger Off burger was good. The burger patty was tasty, tasted beefy and quite wholesome, brioche bun nice, burger itself is quite large. Well priced at $9.50. We also ordered the onion rings, chips and buffalo wings, which were all a little disappointing. Onion rings tasted quite strange, it was like minced onion was mixed in some sort of batter and fried into a ring. And oddly served with tomato sauce. I found there was too much salt on the chips and onion rings. Buffalo wings were a bland. I'd go back if I am in the area, just for the burger but service needs to be sped up a bit. Food took a while to come out, may be because they are new and it was a weekend night.

Great new place that’s just opened up - We ordered the Big Kahuna and the XD Falcon (steak burger).

The onion rings at this place are just out of this world amazing. Totally stole the show!! Chips were also hot, fresh, fluffy and perfect.

My burger was delicious - the beef patty was really good quality. But the two thin steaks in the steak burger were overdone and too tough. The friendly service and onion rings more than made up for it though. Give this place a go!

EDIT: Came back here the other night and they have completely changed their onion rings. Now they're crumbed and have processed onion mush inside instead of slices of real onion... Tragedy!
