Can anyone please tell me if they do takeaway yumcha at this current situation? Thankyou!
SERVICE: 4/5
Surprisingly I thought the service was good for a yum cha / Chinese restaurant. I don't come to expect it so it was a nice surprise. Fast service, attentive, they take special orders and didn't rush us out. Tick tick tick.
FOOD: 5/5
I think this is my new fav yum cha place in the area. The dumplings were really fresh, juicy and plump with plenty of fillings. The Chinese broccoli was so crisp and I appreciated the hoisin served on the side. My fav dumpling is the prawn one with fish row on top, was the best here! The silky tofu & scallop dish was also a crowd pleaser. We had a party of 5 and it came to $180, everyone was stuffed. Pretty standard yum cha price and worth every dollar here in my opinion.
DECOR & AMBIENCE: 4/5
Okay if you can just get past the drab exterior, pot hole laden carpark and dreadful flight of stairs, you will then enter a lovely dining area where the furniture is not draped in white butcher's paper like most other yum cha places.
KID FRIENDLY: Yes however leave your pram behind as there are a flight of stairs to come up and dining area is a little crowded + the food carts. Noise level is also high so long as you don't mind.
One of the best yum cha i have ever had in melbourne. They have a lot of friendly staffs, the food is not soggy at all, still crunchy, and so flavourful. They have lots of range for the yumcha too. I love most of them, the mango sago is the mvp for me and highly recommended to a dessert person 😆😆!!! And their eel is surprisingly good as well, but i just hate to eat yum cha with fish bone 😂😂. Definitely comeback ❤️❤️ don’t forget to booked guys cAused it’s packed 😊
I came here for Mums birthday and found the food quite enjoyable ! I have been here on many occasions throughout the years and as it has changed chefs so many times it’s been. A roller coaster ride
My mums favourite dish is the crab baked in eggwhite and vermicelli noodles . My favourite was the wagyu beef - it was extremely tender and melting in my mouth. The next day when I sizzled it in the microwave it was still tender !
This restaurant has been around a long while and we have been many times. However we decided to pop in for lunch a couple of weeks ago. The food was always good but after the food we had this time I decided to leave a review. The atmosphere is good, busy and the service very pleasant. The lemon chicken was the best, fresh, cooked perfectly and a very large serve, the lemon sauce amazing. The duck fried rice was delicious and a big serve. Sesame prawn was also yum but could barely finish it as we were both so full. Will be back again soon.
Extremely busy yum cha session on a Sunday Afternoon. Book if you don’t want to wait a while!
Once we were seated, hungry as hell, food came quickly and all the classics dishes hit the spots.
Very good!
Great service. Food was piping hot when served and the staff were all very friendly. Service was quick and the food.was very good.
Will recommend it to everyone and will return for more
Fantastic Yum cha, lots of varieties but my favorite are always the deep fried white baits and chicken feets. My family likes the Cuttlefish legs and the soup dumpling($11.80 each bowl). Definately need to book early for weekends. Really great place.
We had some disappointing experiences at this restaurant a few years ago but friends encouraged us to try again. We went for Sunday yum cha lunch. Booking was easy and our table was available at the set time. The car park was very crowded and parking space tight. Trolleys of food started arriving immediately and continued at regular short intervals. There was a good range of different dishes and all that we tried were very tasty in line with our expectations. Our tea pot was regularly refilled. The staff were very busy but always polite and helpful. I’m happy to now recommend this restaurant.
Booked here for yum cha at 11am on a Saturday (3 people). It’s a good idea to book - get absolutely full with big families etc!!
Ordered 8 plates including: har gow (prawn dumpling), siu mai, char siu chang feng (bbq pork noodle), turnip cake, tripe, some sweet fried thing?? and another prawn dumpling
Around $8 on average per plate. 2-3 items per plate.
$60 can make 3 full people
The good:
- carts come quite quickly, service was surprisingly good today (sometimes it’s not great); friendly staff
- clean interior
- har gow, siu mai are all the standard
Not so good:
- turnip cake seemed a bit too uncooked: toooo soft/moist
- 2 egg tarts for $9.50 is a ripoff
- tripe was smothered in oil
Overall, your standard yum cha, more on expensive side
Located at glen Waverley , Chinese cuisine. Customer service is good , the dining atmosphere is good , the food is tasty and great . The price is reasonable. Thumbs up
Food: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
As always, fresh and steaming hot dishes were served. The beef tendon in particular was very tender and juicy to eat. The soy bean pudding is always a winner with the maple ginger sauce. The chive dumpling was our dish of the day.
Service: 🌟🌟🌟.5
We did not make a booking so waited for 10 minutes for a table which was rather quick considering it was peak hour. Service however was a little slow at the start as we had to wait for ~15 min before a trolley of food was pushed into our direction. The servers compensated for this through their friendly and polite demeanours.
Price: 🌟🌟🌟.5
10 dishes came to around $80 as most options we selected were classified as 'deluxe' or above.
Good Chinese with a big menu covering all the classics. Service can be pretty mixed, sometimes you get a really attentive waiter but often you are abandoned after your order is taken. That's not that uncommon for a Chinese restaurant though so nothing to complain about.
Food is fresh and arrives hot. Beware of how much you order as the dishes are pretty generous. Would recommend the roast pork!
This is the renamed version of the old Imperial Kingdom restaurant. This review is solely based on their regular weekly Sunday Yum Cha sessions. My family have been coming here for Yum Cha for many years. This is not a restaurant you come to for trendy, modern decor but instead for the food it serves.
The reason it rates so well is that the quality of food is consistently high, the variety & breadth of Yum Cha offerings covers all traditional Dim Sum a as well as for the more popular Western choices. It rates well on its own and especially in comparison to other local Yum Cha offerings.
For example when ordering steamed Prawn dumplings you get to see and taste real prawn pieces inside not prawn 'mush'. They really know how to cook their dumplings. The high rating comes about because of their consistent high quality across all their offerings and prices.
2 adults can come away satisfied from a Yum Cha lunch for between $40-50 (BYO - exc drinks). It is BYO or fully licenced. 2 sessions run on a Sunday (11.30 am & 2pm).
Highly recommend to take a reservation. This restaurant has lots of free parking spaces. Just on the corner of Waverley Rd and Blackburn Rd. Traditional Southern Chinese foods, especially seafoods, food 3.5/5, service 3/5, environment 3/5
Came here for a banquet with family and friends. Food came out pretty slow even though there weren't that many tables. The lobster also come with udon instead of thin egg noodles which are not as tasty.
good range of dim sum and decent quality. service is what you expect from most of these yum cha places. egg tarts delicious. fluffy char siu bao. har gao and siu mai decent sized
We have been here a few times of late for yum cha and it has been consistently good. The service is efficient and the food is served nice and hot. The choices are broad and we are yet to find anything we don't like. Every time we have been it has been very busy so I would recommend booking and if it's a hot day, ask for a table away from the windows as it can make all the difference. A great place, lots of parking, highly recommend.
Quite a large chinese restaurant with a wide selection of dishes from the menu. I went in for dinner with a friend and the food was tasty. I really like the fried chicken with salted egg yolk.
The chinese to whitey ratio was high about 30 to 1 which is just about perfect for a yum cha place. Which normally means good price, tasty food with average service. The more chinese the better. If too many whiteys then food and price will suffer while decor, swankerness, and service will improve.
Standard Yum Cha fair food was overall good, service was good slightly angry old ladies but thats the norm. Eggplant prawns were good roast pork nice. Can't really add to much more. Nothing Magical but nothing bad to report. Give it a go.
Impressive yum cha restaurant with great selection of yum cha dumplings/choices. This place get really busy by 11.00am, make sure you book the table and come in a bit earlier to get parking spot! ;)
As a Chinese, I have been here multiple times. Some dishes gave me surprise, for example, the deep fried wrap with lychee and prawn. The pork neck is another good one. The pork is crispy. The rest of the dishes are standard.
My first visit here at Imperial for weekend yum cha. I am quite surprised they have two seatings for lunch and the restaurant is jam packed (it must be good right.) we have one and a half to spend here and it is a good experience. All kinds the hot food trolleys such as deep frying, steaming etc. come at our table promptly with friendly smile. We try so many types of dumplings and even steamed chicken feet. It might sound scary but I can tell you it isn't bad at all. The custard bun here is one of the best I've had in a while. We finish our meal with the mango pudding, a bit tad sweet but tastes good. Although Yum Cha is not a favorite cuisine of mine, what I eat today is pretty good. Our bill comes around $120 for 4 ppl. Not cheap but again It's what 'dinning expecting' is all about.
Came here the other week for the first time in years. I'm not sure if management has changed, but the food was a lot better than I remember. I liked all the yum cha dishes we tried and they were all reasonably priced. The lao sha bao and egg tarts were particularly good.
Nice yum cha locally, foods are delicious, you can find the general yum cha selections. Helpful staffing. Reasonable pricing. Happy for the overall experience. Reservation available.
We haven't been here in years! Two families settled in for yum cha on a busy Sunday. The trolleys came thick and fast, the variety was good (though I don't know when greens became a deluxe dish just because they're served on a white plate) and the food was tasty. The dessert range was superb - my favourite baked sago made me very happy but there was also mango sago, tofu in syrup, spongey cake, mango pudding and all of the usual suspects! We walked out happy and it was a fairly typical sized bill.. I'd go again for sure!
Haven't have the chance to have yum cha here . Been here few times for take away , love the soy chicken , soy duck & Chinese roast Pork belly . Highly recommended the pork belly , the crusty skin & the saltiness of the pork belly goes perfect with the cooked white rice . Yum !
I came here tonight with my parents and partner for a late mothers day dinner. We made a reservation for 4 at 7pm. We were seated at the table but the table only had 3 dinner settings for 4 of us. They also brought out the starter soup "lei tong", served 4 bowls but took the large serving bowl away when they usually leave it out with the remaining soup. We had to ask for the bowl with the remaining soup back. We ordered salted duck chicken ribs, combination seafood hotpot, stewed pork belly with mushrooms and beef with xo sauce. All the food that came out was really good and tasty. What let this place down was the service. The empty teapot wasnt refilled for a long time and the empty dishes was not taken away promptly. I would definately come back.
My family comes here all the time for yumcha and it has been consistently good. There's a huge variety of food and the trolleys come around regularly. The location is great and the view isn't bad if you're sitting by the window. Prices are pretty reasonable for yumcha. Make sure to book first before you go because they fill up fast!
Great and consistent All-rounder
I can't remember how many times we've been here.
From their original premise to the current one and to the current proprietor.
Always consistence with their food and service at the beginning, enjoyable Cantonese food, never an issue.
Yes, there's slight changes with the current proprietor, but no issue so far.
I'd say impressive varieties of dim sum and service is better than average comparing to other yum cha restaurants in Melbourne. I would recommend this place and rate it as one of my favorite yum cha spot at the moment.
Our top pick for yum cha. Lots of variety and price is very reasonable. Be sure to book a seat as this place is very packed especially on the weekend.
Great place for yumcha. Dishes come out fast and friendly service. Lots of dishes to choose from, food tastes good and well worth the price. Would recommend the dumplings and squid.
This restaurant is built on the remnants of what used to be imperial kingdom, a Chinese restaurant that served Cantonese food for more than a decade. The replacement restaurant is run slightly differently with a different taste, in this case it is not a bad thing.
When the new owners took over the immediately renovated the restaurant, changing the dated interior and breathing new life into the tired venue. It holds a decent view with panoramic windows overlooking their surroundings. It's not a fantastic view but it does allow lot of light on during the day which creates a pleasant atmosphere.
The food here is decent, they do the staples well, seasonal veggies are tasty, beef is well marinated and tender, chicken is crispy when required and even the tofu tastes good. With that said they do make good use of their salt shaker, chili and their deep fryer.
I wouldn't come here for great quality service and high class food, they serve decent quality Chinese food for the Chinese audience. Non Chinese people will still enjoy their meals as they serve the normal popular items.
I enjoyed our meal here tonight, my only complaint was that the complimentary savory soup was much too salty and the dessert soup was just tasted like sugar and not the contents of the soup.
This place is amazing. The food is so fresh and well cooked. You can tell the chefs are passionate about food and care about the customers. Had the venison with plum sauce. My mind was blown away when i tasted it. The venison was lean, soft and tasty. The plum sauce was such a great combination as well.
Great lunch. Had a wonderful yum cha lunch (Thursday). Food was very good, service was excellent. Was surprised after reading previous reviews.
The trolley waitresses joked with us and were very attentive. The restaurant was full of Asian customers and they all were chatting and laughing creating a great atmosphere.
We were the only 'gwai lo' (western) table.
Their yum cha albeit more expensive now, is great quality. We go on the weekends during peak time however when it’s the best to go for yum cha as there’s more people and items don’t get carted around the venue time and time again.
