Review Thai Garden Restaurant & Takeaway - Glen Waverley

Keyur Dandekar
Such a brilliant place that is hidden from all the glitz and busyness of the Glen Waverley King’s way. This place is located on the high street, slightly away from all the shoulder to shoulder walking traffic of the main food streets near the Glen Waverley train station. This place serves beautiful silky Thai green curry and equally mean stir fried Thai basil chicken. The dishes are exquisite. We have tried the Thai green curry, the pad Thai, the stir fried basil and the chilly chicken. Most of the dishes are top notch but we did have issues with the chilly chicken that was swimming in oil. We had asked for Extra Spicy Stir Fried Basil with Vegetables and it was mind blowing hot. Loved it. They do take your input on how hot you want the dishes and that works well. The only reason why I have given 4 stars is because of the chicken chilly almost floating in the swamp of oil and chillies.

Don't eat here. This dish is some chef special sauce thingo. Hasn't been touched (no joke), already looks half eaten (portions here are horrible). The sauce is hella sour and is far from special. Expect to pay a lot for rice (portion issue once again) and don't be surprised when they try to rush you out by clearing the table before you've finished eating. Also careful when claiming any rebates, they don't print a proper invoice without you insisting for it. Save yourself some money, drive to the glen and get food there.

Rice is misleading on the menu, says 2.70 per person, then proceeds to charge u for refills on rice. Serving size is incredibly small especially the chef's special sauce beef. Beef is thin and way too sour. Safe options are the curry, but won't refill rice with extra charge.

We have eaten at this restaurant prior to Covid lockdown in 2020. Decided to go & dine in again on a Friday night . There was only one waitress (was told she’s the owner’s daughter) who was running around like a headless chook with takeaway orders. There were only a handful of guests sitting down to a meal. When we went to order the barramundi & prawns dishes we were told they didn’t have it. On a Friday night at 7 pm to run out of seafood is disappointing . When the mains arrived she brought a chicken lemongrass stir fry instead of the pork stir fry we had ordered. The dish looked unappetising sitting in a bowl of sauce. She was adamant we had ordered chicken when it was the green curry only that we ordered chicken in. After having the satay chicken my plate had the sweet satay sauce on it , so I politely asked if I could have another clean plate for the mains but she rudely refused saying “ we don’t change plates & we have run this place for 21 yrs” or thereabouts! Very rude & has no inkling of good customer service. Could not believe even one plate could not be changed. We will never go back there. We have eaten at other suburban Thai restaurants around Burwood where we live & have never experienced such attitude from a waitress.Being the boss’s daughter doesn’t excuse such bad customer service !

We were disappointed with our takeaway. Flavor in the red curry and stir fried beef & basil was very bland. The veggie content was lacking and it was pad out with strips of some unknown soft pale vegetable. They were also a little slow with our online order….not sure if this is normal for a Saturday night?

This place serves pretty decent Thai food I am not super picky but can discern what is good and bad and this place lies somewhere on the spectrum towards good. Servings were really generous and very reasonable value :) The pad Thai was more like pas chicken... More meat than noodles pretty crazy The service was really good as well Super respectful, though man turn the warm air down it was way too hot

The food is fantastic, I would give 5 starsfor the food. The waitress is rude - zero stars. My husband collected some take away and was given a ripped serviette/tissue. Seriously? He asked for more because the food was for 3 people and he was given 2 more (whole ones, maybe she didn' have time to rip them!). I can't get over the ripped tissue.

Just had what we orderd from this restaurant. We ate it becsuse we paid $71.20 ,for fried rice that was yelloe coloir with huge pieces of vegies. I have not ever seen a yellow colour fride rice. Pad Thai that was tasteless. Tastes like plain noodles. Their beef green curry is unique as it was white in colour and tasted like water mixed with milk. Please do not rip off custoners like this. We will never order or visit this place ever. Extremeley unsatisfied. Not worth for any stars.

We caught up with friends last night and Thai Garden was selected as the midpoint between us and our cuisine of choice. We found the place to be extremely busy and we soon realised why, all of the food was exceptionally delicious.

We loved the roti and peanut sauce, the pad see ew was extremely flavoursome, the beef massamum curry was insanely tender and literally melting in the mouth. The chicken cashew nut was also really well balanced with a mild amount of heat coming through that was just dancing on the palette.

Chicken satay stir fry was also really enjoyable as that peanut sauce was just so yummy. I’m giving myself a serious put on the back for randomly discovering this place and we will most certainly be back

Nice local Thai restaurant. Service was good and quick. We ordered pad Thai, beef salad and green curry. The beef salad had too much sauce. But everything else was so yummy

I wish I could give 3.5⭐️
Yum! We came in on short notice for a family birthday and we’re glad we did! Two kids who’ve not had much experience with Thai food (but will happily go back for more now!) and three adults. We shared two entrees, roti and four mains and it was tooooo much.
Loved the spring rolls, deliciously hand made... I judge a Thai restaurant by its red duck curry and this one was great!!!! The massaman (beef) was tender and delicious, the pad mee yummy but I found the ginger chicken a bit smokey and not that gingery. No complaints though!
Service was friendly and attentive... as a bonus we used out entertainment book and paid just on $100...

Good food. Nice and cosy ambience.

However they need to update their menu as it reflects old pricing.

The restaurant is slightly in the higher range compared to similar places in that area.

Should have seen the reviews before going.

Went to Thai Garden for dinner and found the food below average. Firstly this place is not vegetarian/vegan friendly. Even their Veg food has an oyster sauce base. So please check with staff before ordering.

I ordered the vegetable stir fry and some rice and it was tasteless. It felt like I was eating boiled veggies with some water and oil.

It was only after adding some chilli, that this dish was edible.

The staff were fairly absent too. Over all, not an experience worth sharing. Find some place else to eat.

Oily and sugary. I have tried many dishes of padtai in many Thai restaurants. Padtai in this place is not worth your money. Plus I can hear an aggressive woman from the kitchen yelling all the time. Freezing sring rolls are just okay.

Our family of 5, including 2 children, dined here on Saturday. The food is average (3.0) but it's the little tricks that lower my rating by another full point. For the first time ever, we ordered 6 serves of rice, but were still left feeling that we ordered less - that's odd for serving sizes. The menu on Zomato is evidently old or takeaway. E.g., a vegetarian green curry is $17.9, lemongrass chicken is $19.9. And that's not all, a 10% GST is on top of that. So, for 3 mains, 6 rice and 2 soft drinks, you're at $84.7 including $23 of rice! That's top-of-the-range prices, matching or exceeding much better Thai restaurants in Monash, like River Kwai or Mango Tree Thai.

Good decent Thai food! Although it didn't look like a lot of food, I was stuffed after the 2 main meals (for 2 of us). Very friendly waitresses and nice restaurant for a casual dinner with friends.

One of my go to's for Thai if I'm in the area as the food is always consistently good and the portions reasonable for the price paid. Very small place, so booking is always required even for 2 people and come early as parking might be hard to find if busy. Great service and delicious Thai cuisine.

Me n my husband were hungry at 10.25 in the night n totally loved the fact they welcomed us happily n the food was yummy n freshly made. Veg green curry n fried rice both were yummy n decent quantity

Great little find the SO and i found via entertainment book. Weve been back a few times but favourite dishes are the chicken larb gai, prawn pad thai and the green curry. Tom yum aoup also should get a mention. They get busy on weekends but even weekdays weve been asked if we made a booking. Staff are friendly, but luckily i havent been to a Thai resturant in melbourne where the staff arent friendly. I have allergies to bean sprouts and they always accomodate with a smile. Price is average for the Thai cuisine range, not cheap eats, but not going to break the bank either.

Thai Garden is a lovely little Thai restaurant in Glen Waverley. The staff are very friendly, but the service can be quite slow paced so I wouldn't recommend going here if you are in a rush. The food is always delectable and portion sizes are quite large. The first couple of times we had gone they gave us a voucher for 20% of our bill- both times, which was very kind of them!

TIP: Do try the Satay Chicken Skewers- they are simply perfect! Don't forget to order a Pad Thai- super delicious the Thai Garden way.

Came here last night after a while. It was good to see the quality of the food and the flavours were still the same.
The chilli chicken still remains one of my favourite dishes, would come back just for that dish. The service was also very good.

As winter draws nearer, it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to drag myself out to scavenge for food, let alone cook a decent meal. Hence, my attempt at feeding myself with minimal effort aka visiting nearby restaurants that offer ample of parking area and quick service. Green curry chicken ~ kudos to having an assortment of veggies in one bowl and for generous chicken portions as well. Only downside was it was verging on the sweet side for me as opposed to being very aromatic in terms of spices.

Had a good time here. The staff were prompt with service and food was full of flavour. I was impressed by the visible real pieces of chicken in the spring rolls. Cosy little venue. Good for intimate catch ups. Will be back again

Food arrived promptly, food was delicious and serving size was ample. Service was great and the price quite reasonable, under $100 for 3 people. Left full, and content. Will come back again.

Good reviews, but not from us. We ordered takeaway, got to the restaurant at the suggested time and proceeded to wait 30 minutes. The order was wrong and the food was bland and tasteless (Lemongrass Pork, Beef in Oyster Sauce and Chili Chicken plus mixed entres).
Maybe we got them on a bad day?

Good food and service. The flavours of the tom yum soup and mixed entrée was delicious. Service very quick. Main green curry and spicy calamari authentic.

Food has always been great here. Full of flavour and delicious. The only thing I don't like about this place is that they don't do home delivery.
You may not be happy with the portion sizes BUT, you do walk away satisfied none the less.

Too noisy! I've been a regu.... Too noisy!
I've been a regular dine in and take away customer of Thai Garden for about 8 years-whilst the expansion of the restaurant was needed the cramming of tables is not. They have no space for bodies let alone prams, wheelchairs or too be honest larger people. You also find you are exposed to hearing other people's convos. The food is amazing as usual though
Well Done
We just found this restaurant we like it. First time we tried this restaurant last Friday. It was fantastic. We will recommend friends. Keep doing a good job. We will come back again.

Very bad food and service. We ordered take away food today. The food was over cooked. Couldn't eat the chicken or curry which was sweetened . As a result returned the food and they didn't refund any money saying you have eaten a little bit. How ridiculous . How are we to know the food is not edible until you eat it. I will never go back to this place and do not recommend it to anybody.

We went to Thai Garden last night, we were crammed in behind the front desk once you managed to sit that was it you couldn't get out. We were rushed to order the entrees were ok! The satay chicken a little dry. But the mains 2 out of the 3 dishes were awful. The crispy chicken dish on the special board was tough overcooked and had an awful taste not at all like described. Neither was the sizzling beef dish it was small the meat looked like it had been boiled. The red curry duck was nice the flavor was great but very little duck in it. We had to ask for our rice to come out and we were half way through the meal. 3 orders for dessert 1 banana fritter, 2 pineapple fritter, not hard especially when you write it down. They came out with 2 banana fritters and the pineapple came out about 5 minutes later. The fritters were served with ice cream and a side of grated carrot? What the! This used to be a great restaurant but after last night you will not get me back. They were rushing us it the door at 9.30pm hey its a Saturday night are you kidding. We never got asked if we wanted coffee.
Very very disappointing as I recommended it to friends.

Slow service, small portions and our meals came out at different times. The beef hot plate that my son ordered was a half portion. Very expensive for a $21.00 meal. Won't be going back in a hurry.

Fantastic Thai tucker !!. We have eaten here for many years now and not once have we ever had a bad meal nor bad experience !! The food is simply fantastic and reasonably priced!! As a chef with classical French training I prefer to let the experts do what they do best and that is cook excellent Thai food!! We're looking forward to Sam and his staff preparing their amazing food for us for a long time to come!!

If you're looking for fast and tasty Thai then this place is worth trying. Had the green curry which was nice and thick, as well as the pad Thai which was full of flavour. The place is prob a bit on the pricier side, but if you have an entertainment book voucher then it's definitely a bargain eat.

Love it. The roti and satay is awesome and the red and green curries are divine. Online ordering and sms confirmations are an added bonus.

Waste of money - Unauthentic Thai restuarant. Ordered a Prawn Pad Thai which cost $16.90. Worst I have ever had - it had peas, cabbage, large shredded carrot and beans with some prawn. That is not a Pad Thai ! This is not an authentic Thai restaurant. Go someplace else.

Tasty and good service. Good Restaurant - friendly service and decent food (not fantastic, but good!). Can be a little pricey but the restaurant is nicely decorated and set out (quite small though). I recommend making a gooking prior to coming as does fill up.

Fantastic. I have dined both in the restaurant and often buy take-out from here.
The staff are very friendly, the food is delicious. The service in the restaurant is great and food both yummy and well presented.

Very nice place. Been here a couple of times and the manager and the staff are lovely. The chilli chicken is our favourite really taste. However their curries do come in small portions.

Looks like a Dodgy place but good food and reasonable price. Rice a bit mushy but good.

Great find. Really like this place. Went there one night after trawling for takeaway during our house move. Decided to dine in and were pleasantly surprised. Staff were lovely, food was delicious! Loved the duck curry!! Great bonus that it's BYO too. Went back for takeaway another night and it really hit the spot. Will definitely be back soon.

What a great discovery. We were looking for somewhere to dine to celebrate a birthday and we were too late to book some other restaurants we had enjoyed in the past so we searched the interwebs for some inspiration. Luckily, we stumbled onto Thai Garden and the reviews were encouraging enough for us to take a punt. We arrived and found a convenient parking spot right out in front and we were welcomed graciously by the host.
We liked that it was BYO and poured some drinks and caught up with our friends while looking at the menu. The range wasn't too oppressive and we quickly settled on entre and main meals and placed the order.
The food came quite quickly and we were all unanimous that the flavours were fresh and the food was tasty. Mains arrived and the positive trend continued. The meal sizes were good and a few of us found room for dessert. All in all, we agreed that it was as good a Thai meal as we have had and the fresh flavours combined with quite reasonable prices, means that we will be back. In fact, we are booked for this Saturday night!

A pleasant evening.. Nice little place with tasty pad thai chicken, nice chicken peanut satay, and OK wok fried beef on a skillet. Roti and rice were fine, this is BYO so no alcohol sold, but you can bring wine and maybe beer (the table next to us did, but I am not sure if you actually can!).

Quite friendly service and ok atmosphere, all in all a nice evening. Would perhaps go back to see what their green or masaman curries are like.
Jenna
Jenna. The crispy chicken, Thai fish cakes, red duck curry are family favourites but we have enjoyed everything that we have eaten there. It's wise to book.

In my opinion - The Best Curry Puff. I have try os many places in victoria which sell curry puff.

Thai Garden Curry Puff is the best by far.
Truly Thai curry puff.

When you smell and eat it, you it's original way of Thai Curry puff.

Well done.

My other favourite here is green curry soup. nice.....

Good Food good price. We have been there a couple of times, food is great and well priced. The Veg Stir fry is to die for. Service is good and timely.Definitely would go back. Do call for reservation relatively small place.

Small restaurant with ok food. Be sure to make sure your table is in the main dining room not out near the kitchen. Will be back!
