Review The Wharf - Glenelg

Went for a 50th. Food was excellent, great outdoor location on the marina. We had the à la carte. Service was top notch. Food is of good portion. Seafood chowder is one of the best. Will definitely go back

Great food and vibe. I love Cheese & Chive Turkish Bread (Turkish topped with cheese, seasoned with sea salt & fresh chives) and the seafood plate was fresh and delicious.

Food was delicious and warm welcoming along the water front, enjoyed by some lovely company of friends.

We were a small intimate wedding party on Tuesday evening. We were greeted in the warmest way, food was presented beautifully, and all guests appeared to be most pleased. A gorgeous wedding cake was delivered earlier in the day and was handled in the most appropriate and sensitive manner! Great service from all involved and most appreciated. We shall return. Many thanks! Patricia Gordon Stevens Kapunda South Australia

Gorgeous waitress, perfect spot. Thanks for making our first lobster experience amazing!

The rib eye was cooked to perfection. I like rare and often it's over cooked. Not here 😋😋😋😋. My partner loved her seafood tasting platter. Nice cocktails and friendly staff too 😁

My friend and I had a quick dinner last night. "Food was superb and delicious". The staff are accomodating. A bit expensive but it's worth it..no regrets. Thanks to Mr. David for welcoming us and the rest of the team.

Had a really good seafood platter for lunch yesterday, plenty of food for both of us and perfectly cooked. Very nice, friendly staff too and even though they were extremely busy we didn't have to wait too long for our food. Definitely recommend.

Had the most amazing meal to finish our holiday on June 23rd 2017. The chefs were fantastic and friendly all the staff were great. The scallops were so good and highly recommended with a fantastic blend of flavour from the butter they used. Finishing off with Belly pork with Asian greens. I have to say this is the best pork I have ever tasted wasn't salty and had perfect crackling, finished with a stunning sauce to complement both the pork and the scallops in this dish. We visited twice and is definitely one of the best places to eat in Glenelg. Had a fantastic experience.

My sister and I had lunch here on Monday. We had the seafood platter and bottle of wine. There was plenty of yummy food for both of us. The staff were friendly and helpful. We sat outside overlooking the marina. It was our third time and it didn't disappoint. Look forward to returning in the future

Tonight's experience was truly abhorrent. Firstly, $19 for a Mojito that tasted of nothing but soda water, which we returned. We still couldn't finish the replacements. Secondly, our entrées. The scallops where over cooked, the bruschetta was two pieces of toast with chopped floury tomatoes. Thirdly, our mains. Two scotch fillet steaks ($41 each), one with a "red wine jus" which tasted like the balsamic vinegar from the bruschetta, the other with peppercorn gravy that tasted like corn flour. We also ordered one rib eye ($45) that was disappointingly dry. All steaks came with "roast potatoes" that were dripping in oil as if they had been deep fried and two were very overcooked. The staff were unapologetic and even though the restaurant was over staffed, inattentive. This was our first and last visit to this overpriced and underwhelming restaurant.

My husband and I had a late lunch here today for our anniversary. We came here because we wanted seafood, we chose the seafood platter for two and we weren't disappointed! Everything was fresh, well presented and absolutely delicious. My fav was the scallops! Staff were friendly and attentive. Head chef even came to say hello and made sure we were enjoying our meal, that's when I know they actually care about what they do! Will definitely recommend. Thank you!

Had dinner with my husband here last night. We had oyster Kilpatrick for entree followed by the seafood platter and a complimentary bottle of wine as a special $85 deal. Was our first time at the restaurant, had great friendly service, and very fresh tasty seafood. Thank you for making our night special. It was a very relaxing and cosy experience, highly recommended and we will most certainly return to sample other dishes on offer.

Had dinner with Partner last night for his birthday. We had the seafood platter and bottle house wine as a special $85. Can't fault anything. We live local and have gone there for ages. Alway great good and people. Thank you for making our night special. It was very relaxing and cosy and warm inside.🎂🍾🥂

Went there tonight and was very happy with the service and the food was amazing. Had the seafood platter for 3 and there was plenty of food . Thoroughly enjoyed it. Will definitely return to try the pork belly yum!!!

We had the seafood platter, wine and a main meal which were all really nice! Service and view were also really good.

Allison Murphy
The service was great, the food was AMAZING and it is a great place to eat. 10/10 I would recommend this to anyone.

We picked a gorgeous sunny day to go! Not overly busy for lunch on a Monday. Beautiful view of the Marina. My partner and I had the $39 Share plate for the week. It was quite delicious, only thing i would say if you are super hungry/eat a lot a share plate might not satisfy 2 people. We dont eat massive meals though, so it was perfect for us! We were tempted to order some more scallops with the chilli and lime dressing, they were perfectly cooked and so yum! We will be going back, maybe for dinner next time :)

We had a young gentleman waiter who was nothing short of amazing last night. Accommodated not only us but the kids who we know can not always be little delights. A really nice place to spend with friends and the kids!
SpiceyRiceCakes
we’ve been here a few times and the food is always top notch (especially the seafood) and the service is great.

Very bad . Over cooked over crumed over sauced over prised the oysters were not fresh or born in the smashed shells they were served in . The staff did not respond in any way they just waited for me to leave . This place is a real shitter .

Celebrated my 50th there last night with family and friends. Staff very fruendly and helpful throughout and not a clean plate was left! Food very good. Good night.

The room was cold & the waitress never smiled but the food was good.<br/>My pre-dinner drink (Beam & Coke - yes, I'm a Bogan) smelled & tasted weirdly aniseedy and was replaced. There seemed to be a problem with the soda mix.<br/>We started with garlic bread & then I had the seafood share plate (entree) for my main course & the standard of this dish was very good. <br/>I loved the creamy fresh natural oysters. The scallops may have been a tad overcooked. The smoked salmon with dressing, dill & capers was tasty. There was a lot of good sized firm prawns which I was happy to peel & dip in the dressing. A finger bowl was supplied but I needed a hose-down afterwards. While this meal is a tad pricey, I recommend it for anyone who loves seafood & understands that you have to pay for quality. <br/>He had salt & pepper prawns which were perfect for him.<br/>She had her favourite - whiting which says two pieces on the menu but there were more on her plate, perhaps due to smaller sized fillets? <br/>No room for dessert.

We planned to have a big brekkie at the jetty road or marina and dunno ended up having fish and chips and beef snitzel. There was nothing special about the food. Fish and chips were bland, dunno if they seasoning the fish or not. Neither with snitzel. The beef was tender but wasn't taste great. And for the ambience is average. The service was pretty good, waitress very friendly and so does the cook.

Pleasant casual dining in a prime location.<br/><br/>I ordered a chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce, and much to my surprise it was good. I never choose schnitzel when dining out as it's often quantity over quality, but what I saw being served to others looked promising and thankfully it was worth the gamble. My friends enjoyed their dishes of prawns, a caesar salad, and a very impressive tasting plate.

We came here to celebrate my father-in-law's 70th birthday. We got the trio of dips, oysters and garlic bread which was lovely and plentiful.<br/><br/>The pork belly was a little dry, the reef and beef was delicious, the pawn salad was large although covered in a bit too much ranch dressing, the squid salad was a little overpriced.
The Gaz N Laz
Just simply a brilliant location, staff were exceptional and the food was out of this world in it's quality and execution. I would have no issues bringing people w

We got the seafood platter for 2 was quite nice, the seafood was all cooked well, scallops with a thai style dressing was the stand out. Great drinks menu. The only let down was for $120 other seafood platters I've had have had better shellfish other than whole prawns. Maybe some crab, bugs or scampi wouldn't have hurt. Still nice and would come back.
William Harradine
Food and service was great. It is a bit pricey. The rib eye I had was spectacular. One thing I was disappointed was that they had sports on the screens during dinner service and that was a put off.
Fil
Very disappointing. Had the seafood platter which cost $120. Most of it was fried and didnt even have any crabs, lobster or crayfish. They served chips and salad and even that was below par. Pub grub would have been better. They cant even get the corona with lemon right. Lemon has yellow skin.... not green. Go elsewhere

Lovely venue over looking the marina. The only problem was the wait for our food! When we were told our order didn't come though to the kitchen we were offered half strength cocktails as a conciliation after waiting 50 min our entrees finally arrived with a complimentary glass of wine but a further extended wait for mains (50 mins) saw us witness diners who had been seated after us eat and leave before we got our first taste of our main. The pork belly and scotch fillets were cooked to perfection but unfortunately the damage of the poor attention to service and detail had left a sour taste in our mouths.

Beautiful location, views overlooking the beach. Staff were very professional and attentive. We shared a tasting plate and all the items were delicious! Loved seeing the fresh seafood being brought into the restaurant :)

What better way to spend a sunndy weekend afternoon. <br/>We set on the side overlooking the beach. Although it was a tad warm we loved the view of the calm beachfront. <br/>The service was very friendly, fast and attentive. <br/>The food was most surprising! Unmistakably, fresh and delicious. We all enjoyed our dishes. The menu had a good selection of choices and even a separate Healthy Section from which we ordered Stuffed Mushrooms and Thai Salad. <br/>I would highly recommend and can't wait to have an opportunity to come back again!

Fine dining prices for pub quality food. Forzen bagged chips, spawning cheap oysters which were horrible served natural, incorrectly cooked steak which had gristle through it and wildly over priced, all topped off with very average service. Just keep walking past and eat somewhere else.
Kombigrub
Lunch date for under $50! View was priceless! Staff were attentive! Food was delicious! Loved my spicy satay chicks on sticks! Hubby was hooked on the freshness of the fish! Coulda come straight from the jetty!

Expensive local pub fare. First time at the wharf and last, very disappointing. 6:30 on a Saturday and one of the specials is unavailable along with two deserts later. Large group of 18 - not all ordered entree but came out very staggered, some had finished before others had started. I had scallops sounded fantastic on menu but for $22 I got 6 bland white discs maybe about the size of a 10cent piece, disappointing.<br/>Again mains bought no joy, all those that ordered steak found that it had not been cooked as requested, seems they can do medium to well but anything less is an issue and for $40+ There was greater expectations. And the $120 seafood platter for two looked like a large order of deep-fried stuff from the local fish shop and presentation, there was none and not using local prawns for the salt & pepper prawns (only found after I ordered) is just not on. Wait service was fine with a lovely girl making sure out water bottles were topped up but water was not cold and neither was the beer unfortunately just overall disappointing. <br/>I suggest if you are considering The Wharf book at your local pub instead, have a few drinks, take a cab home, you will have change in your pocket and a better feed.

Great food great atmosphere and friendly and efficient staff. Just had a great dinner with delicious food served by very friendly staff - It was fantastic to be looking out at the Ocean on one side and the marina on the other - great chicken satay starters followed by very good whiting Barramundi and calamari - we would definitely return - special thankyou to Jonathon the restaurant Manager - thankyou

Disappointed Both food an.... Disappointed<br/><br/>Both food and service was not up to standard for the price they were charging<br/><br/>Ordered seafood chowder, medium surf and turf, and mussels with white wine and tomato broth <br/><br/>Seafood chowder came out alright for $21 tag<br/><br/>Mussels looks good but taste very ordinary<br/><br/>Surf and Turk was a shocker, can't believe paid 47 bucks for three frozen prawns on a skewer, a piece of steak that was cooked medium well on one side and well done on the other, on a bed of deep fried blanched chats, with a cream sauce as thick as glue<br/>Whole dish came out stone cold, worst dish I have had!!!!!!<br/>Absolutely embarrassing for the chef to send out this crap<br/><br/>Service was crap.. Mains brought out with no cutlery<br/><br/>Only recommendations for no locals is to stay away from this place, you will be happier with toast and baked beans

Expensive pub food. Service was average. Had to ask for menus and wine list. Food portions were minute and menu, particularly the dessert menu was pub like but for a lot more money

Great Day Out!. Took my wife, my parents and my mother in law and her partner for Mothers Day lunch and it was a great day out. Even though the restaurant was fully booked and busy, the waiting staff were attentive, friendly and both drink and food service across lunch was excellent. We all had three courses with wine and the size of all our courses are very generous indeed and all very reasonably priced. The highlight was the Beef and Reef. I would highly recommend the Wharf as it has the best contemporary menu on the Marina and caters to everyone's tastes and they have a great range of daily and lunch specials.<br/><br/><br/>-----11 Jul, 2014-----<br/><br/>Great meal. Wife and I dined there last night using a Scoopon deal and the food and service was fabulous. We both had Steaks and they were cooked perfectly and a very generous portion size which gave a 2nd tick to the overall value offered by this deal. The location is fantastic, the staff were very welcoming as was the Manager (Jonno) who engaged well with us and the other diners around. we will definitely eat there again and look forward to exploring the extensive and enticing menu.
Backflipguy
Overwhelmingly bland.... Platter to share was devoid of taste, curry tart also bland, and while the steak was passable, ultimately it felt like a dodgy $15 Tuesday pub steak. Pretty much just reinforces that if you like food stay clear of glenelg, never had a good experience.
Graham W
Four of us ate here for dinner on a Scoopon. Service was good but if you are paying full tote odds I can't see the value. The other major hitch is the inconsistent food. This is the second time I have been and had the steak- it is the best - tender, large size and importantly cooked to your liking. Unfortunately the other dishes tried(flathead and pork belly) were conversely as bad- although dips were delicious. In short - don't stray from the steak!
KHD
Disappointing attitude. Tried to use our Scoopon there. No where on the Scoopon was it stated that one needed to book in 48 hours in advance. I only bought the Scoopon because I was in Glenelg at that time. I saw the reservation book and they hardly had any reservations. The waitress refused to take our booking (in person) for later that day. I came back with the Scoopon and pointed out that it wasn't stated that it had to be booked at any particular time. She refused to budge and claimed that the manager wasn't in - even though I suspect they were next door in the Sunset Bar. This is very dodgy as the expiry date on the Scoopon is quite short. If it had been a busy night then I would understand but on a Monday night - I think they probably collect quite a lot of money from Scoopon for unredeemed vouchers! Unimpressed and have lodged a complaint with Scoopon.
Kitty
Unfortunately not a winner. Pork belly dry and chewy, crackling not crunchy at all. Fish was ok, but really just pub fare standard. Won't return and should have viewed urbanspoon before sitting down.
Daniel Low
Came here with a scoopon voucher and was impressed by the size of the servings! Dips were good although the pitas was on the crusty burnt side. But great main dishes.

Fantastic food, fantastic staff - this restaurant never disappoints. I had the reef & beef - huge serve, steak cooked to perfection, creamy sauce & super fresh prawns. I cannot fault this restaurant 10/10.

Obnoxious Staff. Went to the Wharf for a birthday and there was a group of about 20 of us. The food is good but slightly over priced. The evening was let down by the attitudes of the bar staff who refused to serve one member of our group as he was "intoxicated". He had had only two beers on complaining about this to the assistant manager he explained that the member of our group had been seen to be going to the toilet twice during the meal and so couldn't serve him further!! I was totally disgusted by this attitude. There were 20 in our group and the bill was over $1000! The staff were rude and completely illogical. This episode has put everyone who attended going again and we all live local to Glenelg. Needless to say we did not leave a tip.

Great experience :). Had a wonderful experience at The Wharf a month or so ago while I travelled to Adelaide to see the Soundwave Festival.<br/><br/>We walked up and down looking at the various restaurants, and this one looked inviting. When we walked in we were greeted very warmly and seated promptly with menus.<br/><br/>First we ordered the Tasting Plate (Pic Uploaded) which included: <br/>Arancini balls, chicken skewers, 1/2 shell scallops, Morton Bay bugs and a trio selection of dips with bread ($39.90)<br/><br/>It was all delicious - in particular the Arancini balls - wow... memorable!!!<br/><br/>After that we were both rather satisfied enough not to order a main each. We asked if we could order the Braised Caramel Pork Belly (Served on a bed of spiced apples and honey orange gaze - $19). We asked for additional cutlery so we could share the plate however they actually split the belly into two and served us on two separate plates. (Pic Included). It was delicious... :)<br/><br/>All in all a great meal was had at The Wharf in Glenelg.
JS
Disappointed. Ordered the pork belly after asking and being advised that it would be crispy/crackling on top (how I like it), only to be served up a soggy, fatty and very sweet piece of pork. Definitely not worth the $$$ and won't be returning.
GD
While the food was generally passable, for the price it needed to be better. Waiting 2 hrs for our food was hard to swallow but being looked at like we asking for the waiters only working kidney when we enquired why the wait was so long was the last straw. Better food, cheaper food and better service is only a few steps away from this place. First time and last time.
Kim
Good service, food a little overpriced. Came in on a Friday at around 1:30pm. Wasn't very busy at all (weather wasn't so great) and so the service was very prompt and very attentive. Was given a seat right next to the back window so we got to look out at the rough seas while we ate - very cool. Food came out pretty quickly, drinks were served promptly. Food was a bit overpriced, $30 for atlantic salmon that wasn't outstanding and $33 for Moroccan Lamb that was good, but not great. That being said, everything down at The Pier is overpriced, so you do need to take this into account. All in all, not bad, but not all that great either.
Molly Connell
The food took over an hour even though it was mostly empty. It was overpriced and disgusting, would tell anyone not to go there.
Opinionated Foody
Good. The food is good (not great, but good.) The pork belly was almost ruined by all the sweetness on the plate. Seafood Pasta was good but a little heavy on the olive oil. The bruschetta was delicious!<br/>Service is ok but when it got busy forget about getting another drink! The staff could use some skill training in how to attend to all their tables. <br/>One more thing I would like to mention is the tables with the views are right next to the exposed kitchen which is very loud. It really ruins the seaside experience and if you are going for the "oh it is cool to watch the chefs at work" vibe it is lost in that you can't see what they are doing. All you see is their torso, kind of weird. <br/> Also, what is with having linen tablecloths and using paper serviettes? Really confuses the diner as to what the restaurant is going for; elegant or everyday.
Steve
Fantastic. After reading a few poor reviews on the Warf and having a voucher to use we booked and went. The staff were friendly, the food was amazingly good, service was quick, meals come out hot. Would definately go back.. Thanks
Anne McIntosh
Great staff ... They do their jobs :-). <br/>I'm lazy so I hated that even though we were a party of 18 we still had to go up to the counter to order each and every time!! But food and atmosphere are worth the effort especially on a bright sunny day
Claude
Overpriced and completely underwhelming. Woeful service compounded by disorganization on the floor, behind the bar, and in the kitchen. Despite asking twice, the first and subsequently only, round of drinks took in excess of half hour to arrive. The food, when it finally arrived, could be charitably described as being below average. Meals were overcooked and drowned in sauce. Avoid at all costs.
Trish
Stay home you wont be dissapointed!. What constitutes bad service?was it waiting 15 minutes for a drink on arrival? Was it the wait for my meal as my fellow diners ate sheepishly at their 'barnacle bill 'meal of salt n pepper calamari for a rude $25- which was a plate of brown fried food with a garish garnish of spring onion to the side-so appetising for the over-priced price!!!-hence the barnacle bill comparison. So as waited .......and a waitress was prompted to find my meal so we could enjoy a meal as a group,it arrived.A decent chef would be to embarassed for these meals to leave his kitchen.Over priced rubbish-you go out to eat better than you can at home?stay home ,be ashamed of your quality Wharfies!

Sunday Dinner. Great steaks, great service and great affogato w Tia Maria<br/>Highly Recommended

The Wharf. I have been to the Wharf quite a few times and there has been a few consistancy issues that definatly seem to be cleared up now. The new menu is very versatile and quite well ranged. Service was great on our last five visits and the atmosphere has really warmed up. All in all really good value for money
Henry
Bad coffee and very bad service. I went here for breakfast with interstate visitors last month. The coffee was very weak and a long time coming. When one of our party asked for an extra shot as the coffee (in a mug) was too weak, it was added to the bill. Single shot in a mug, what a joke. The breakfast menu only had about 6 things on it and the full cooked breakfasts look good but after waiting nearly an hour (and seeing plenty of newer arrivals being fed) we were still starving but had to give up on our food as some of our party had to make a flight. So we paid for the coffee and left - appalling service. The person who we paid for the coffee explained we hadn't received our breakfasts as the waiter hadn't transmitted the order to the kitchen properly, but what kind of waitstaff don't check on their tables to see everyone has food and drink in a timely fashion? Appalling bad service for SA, where we don't even have the excuse of a buzzing mining industry dragging away all the good staff.
