Review The Strand Cafe Restaurant - Glenelg

Have never had a disappointing meal here. My favourite dish would be the squicken salad (chicken & squid) and I don't usually order salad! They always have a lovely busy vibe. A little more on the pricey side but definitely worth it. Service was perfect.

Nice location cafe away from the busier side of Jetty Rd, Glenelg. Car parking is much easier. Long standing cafe for many years, icon of jetty Rd. Must say the Mediterranean chicken salad is edging closer to $30 & chicken is more drier than what it was previously (we ALWAYS order this fav dish when we come), so a bit disappointed. Will probs get pastas or pizzas next time.

Had yummy crab pasta + seafood risotto here Would give the crab pasta a 9/10, rich crab sauce and great portion The atmosphere was awesome too

I had a lovely Birthday dinner with my friends last night. Thank you so much for the amazing food and lovely staff! Milan was great, the lady who gave me the cake with the birthday song background, and the other staff who took photos of us. I enjoyed my prawn starters, pasta and ribs for the mains, and margarita! Highly recommend. Cheers! 🥂

Great choice of food at very reasonable prices, staff are friendly and helpful

Change of management since we were there last, bit nervous to start. However she's all good! One of the best salads I have had! The fried chicken is fantastic! They should have it burgerised! Nice pasta too. Decent service and priced ok, as I say you get what you pay for so if your after budget stuff go elsewhere. Recommended. 4/5

Delicious food and good ambiance. The service could improve a bit, for example, when I asked for recommendations for either Kangaroo Lion or Chicken Kiev, the wait staff responded with a stern face saying she doesn't eat meat. She could have simply replied with general comment like "our popular item is....." or "most people order....". It just became unnecessarily awkward. Otherwise, definitely recommended for the food.

We had a large group book only 30 minutes before coming in. Kajal, Milan, John and Tara looked after our group of 22 and did an amazing job getting food and drinks out so quickly. Couldn’t have asked for better service

I ordered gnocchi with MUSHROOM instead of CHICKEN as I am a vegetarian and do not eat meat. I made it clear I didn't want any meat and that the mushrooms were to replace the chicken. After a few fork fulls I realised there is chicken in my dish. I was polite about it; only to get absolutely no compensation and not one single staff even bothered to ask how my meal was. It's not a 'cheap take out' so I would expect far more! It's disgusting chicken was put in my dish- and horrible they did not even attempt to make up for such a serious error. Would not recommend. I have only given a 1 star as I was not allowed to post without giving one.

I had the absoutle worst experience today. After being seated we had to go and find our own menus because no one bothered to bring us them, after about 20 minutes our order was taken by one of the rudest waitresses I have ever encountered. I order the chicken salad asked if the dressing had raw egg in it as I was pregnant so couldn't eat raw egg. She didn't bother to check with chefs but just rudely said that she can't guarantee it. My mum and husband ordered 2 wraps. So after being thrown cutlery, 25 mins past no food. 35 minutes past still no food and the tables that come in after us already have their food. Finally our food comes out. My salad looks lovely but just as i go to eat it i notice one bug crawling around and another bug stuck dead on the plate. Unimpressed I send it back only for the waitress to not even apologise for this and just takes it back without even indicating if it will be replaced. Another 10 minutes later a salad comes out. Only to see that another bug is crawling round in the salad. Being pregnant and more then fed up after being treated so rudely I call what I think is the manager over to say I've already waited an hour for 2 salads that both have bugs in im not interested in the food anymore. Not even an apology. I have never ever been so offended by a group of staff and will never ever return. To not even receive an apology is seriously unacceptable.

A party of 13 of us thoroughly enjoyed the food but several of the white wines on the menu were so unpleasant you would have thought them to be rancid. Staff very rude & abrasive by way of response, despite my being happy to pay for the full glasses which were effectively thrown down the sink. Suggest you make sure you ask to taste the wine before ordering a glass to avoid such a situation. Would go back though. Really nice place, decent menu selection, and one of the nicest spaghetti bolognaises I've ever had.

Full house on Saturday night but still got excellent service along with great food. The staff couldn't have been better, always polite and frequently checking whether we had drinks and everything was OK. The food was tasty and the servings generous (soft shell crabs, yum). Café Restaurant describes The Strand exactly - you could use it as either and not be disappointed.

The meal was to die for...cooked to perfection! Staff were excellent and didn't keep us waiting as we had a show in Adelaide to get to. Well done The Strand Cafe Restaurant! :-)

My favourite place to eat on Jetty rd, never disappoints. My favourite dish the famous moussaka. Convenient 3 free hour parking out the back which bypasses the work on Jetty rd.

Love The Strand. Staff always welcoming, food always reliably good, great meeting place as everyone knows The Strand Glenelg!! Bit noisy but that’s because it’s always full

I was really excited to go to dinner here last night only to discover that the Prime Beef dish has been taken off the menu. Needless to say i was extremely disappointed with this as i always get the prime beef. It also seems like that was the only thing taken off the menu. Are you planning on bringing it back at all? If not then you may lose a consistant customer :(

We had dinner at The Stand on Sunday evening. The food was delicious and the staff were so friendly and attentive. Excellent quality and service. We have already recommended this restaurant to our friends and family. Thank you for a lovely meal!

We have been coming here for almost 5 yrs every single week, once a week, the staff are amazing and the food is amazing. We have never felt so welcome in a restaurant. Thank you.

Sorry wasn't impressed last night , we were shown to our table , drinks were not asked as a couple ppl at our table had a drink as they arrived early , not even bottle water on table . I had to stop a waiter on his way from a table near us to get a drink and it wasn't overly busy . We got a couple garlic breads we were still finishing them and our main was served. I'm sorry but it wasn't up to scratch I had the marinara pasta so to speak and i didn't see or taste the seafood. The dumplings served as a main well the bits went home hungry , it's a main 4 dumplings ? The lamb backstrap looked the best option which my dil had and shared with her hubby. It's a shame because we've been here a couple times and loved the food but not this time . $175 and yeh not impressed at all .

We are visiting from Perth, read the reviews of restaurants in the area and have had other meals out around Glenelg but our meal tonight on our last night was by far the best, pasta meals were beautiful and the fillet steak was to die for, cooked to perfection and the staff were so helpful and friendly so all in all 100% all round, we will certainly visit again when we come back, well done The Strand you guys rock.ďż˝

Waited at the ''wait to be seated podium' only to have a senior looking staff member pass by and and Completely ignore us. A minute or so later a friendly lady told us to choose our own table and she would bring over menus to us. We waited 5 minutes or so before we had to flag someone down to get even a menu and a drink! The food was great but the service was very disappointing.
Katelyn Ellery
Last night we were lucky enough to enjoy our wedding reception with 70+ guests. The food was exceptional and plentiful. Customer service was of the highest standard. Highly recommend. - Todd & Katelyn Ellery.
Good Food Good Mood
We visited The Strand for dinner last night which was an okay meal. I ordered the salmon which was a little cooked for my liking and came with potatoes that were very blackened so whilst it was edible it was not really a memorable or particularly enjoyable dish and I would definitely order something different were I to ever return
Si Sv
Food seems different. I did not enjoy it so much.Bland and no taste. Service was not welcoming and staff were rude.Used to come here a few year ago.Now food is not that good.

Dined here on a busy Saturday night. Arrived late ; almost 9 pm by the time we ordered. Staff friendly, efficient and prompt . I detected that both waitresses were somewhat disengaged but professional. My partner ordered the bologaise and I ordered the pappardelle . Both in a rich tomato based sauce . The pasta was delicious and generous in portion . After a few mouthfuls I realised the pasta sauce was so spicy ! I honestly would give it an 8/10 for heat intensity ; despite being flavoursome and tasty. I did let the waitress know about this and she said she would let the chef know . Despite the pasta being uncomfortably hot for me I will return as it is very authentic and delicious .

The Strand is a good place for a variety of food. However we tend to stick to our favourite, pesto gnocchi. Soft silky pillows of potato goodness with a great mix of flavours including semi dried tomatoes, pine nuts and chicken.
Sam White
Hands down the best creamy pasta I’ve ever had. My wife had the beef cheek and she said it was very tender and flavoursome. Can’t wait to return.

Unfortunately the pizza we had was more like toppings on a cracker, the base was too dry. The squid chicken salad we had was over priced for the portion, and the chicken again was extremely dry and uncomfortable to eat. It was meant to be crispy but it missed the mark. The service was inattentive and we had to ask for drinks repeatedly.
Aaron T
I was hungry by the time getting the restaurant. started with lamb backbone stripes sided with smashed sweet potato. Meat is tender goes so well with the cream sauce.Second is another main lamb shank which is marinated and slow cooked. Meat comes off the bone effortlessly and melt in mouth..yummy. The seafood pasta was generous in size so everyone had a bite. it's recommended. kids had kids many -woodfire pizza and creamy penne. pizza looks good and taste woodfire but pasta is boring by itself no salad or side or anything in the creamy sauce.
Mel
We had a table booked and were told it was table service. No one brought us a bottle of water or anything. We were sitting for about half an hour then I decided to go to the bar and ask for one.

They ran out of chicken parmis for dinner.

The food all came out at different times. The fastest was within 1 hour of ordering but I waited an hour and 45 minutes for my food and I had ordered pasta. That seems excessive.

Once the food came it was nice. Nothing fancy but it was tasty. The problem was the service not the food.

On Saturday night the huge room was filled with punters, proving the popularity of this cafe. The service was good although it would have been nice to be offered drinks when we were seated.
An open kitchen is always reassuring. The serves were generous & food quality good.
We shared an entree of dukkuh - a delicious mix of nuts & spices with soft bread & balsamic oil. I could eat this forever & cleaned the plate.
She had the Moroccan Curry with falling apart slow braised beef. He had Aglio E Oilo spaghetti & I had a pasta special of pappardelle, both cooked to perfection. My leftovers were doggy-bagged & I got a chocolate raspberry fudge for takeaway, which was packed with a dollop of cream.
The other cakes in the window were very tempting & it took a while for me to decide which to choose.
The only negative was the noise level in the room which made normal conversation difficult.

I have a soft spot for trying establishment that have authentic Italian dishes on the menu and this place ticked those boxes for me. As soon as our group arrived we were made to feel extremely welcome the place is very spaces but more importantly the food. For cafe style menu this place definitely knows how to cook some seriously good pasta. The taste is truly Home style. And recommend to anyone yet to try
Elise
Friendly and efficient staff, beautiful coffee. Eggs Benedict was devine with eggs cooked perfectly. Will definitely be back, thank you for restoring our faith in Glenelg cafes!

Best pasta I've eaten in Aus, hands down. Absolutely delicious.
Staff are lovely, atmosphere is nice, and, well, the pasta is seriously good.
Give the duck ravioli a shot: you can thank me later.
Limonata&ciabatta
The service here is great, the staff are friendly and very helpful. I'm so tempted to try the pizza but It's either salt and pepper squid or squicken that gets me every time - the honey mustard dressing is amazing! It's not a pasta place so if you're wanting something authentic don't order it just go for one of the other main dishes because that's what they do best. (Squicken cough, Squid cough.)
Romeo Mangiare
Came here for farewell party with colleagues. I had stella mare. The portion just enough, well blend, i polished the plate. All my friend also enjoy their meals. Was fantastic, good service. Am definitely come back for another menu

The Strand is reliable for good food and atmosphere. Although the pizza has always been good, I went in for pizza Monday night after not being down there for a while expecting the reliable B+. I was pleasantly surprised. Whilst the topping was great, and as I expected, the dough was amazing. Next level in fact. It previously tended to be a bit hard and oddly sweet, this was perfectly balanced. Went from an B+ to an A+
Whatever you've done to get to where it is now, keep it up! Love your work

Reliable, tasty and hearty! We were in desperate need for some food after wining and dining our way through the barossa and this was a winner. We were starving and the place being packed, we thought we were pushing our luck. But they seated us quickly and sucked us in with $10 cocktails. The starters quickly filled that gap, saganaki, garlic bread and bruschetta. Great, but nothing to write home about. The mains were more impressive, I treated myself to a pizza (half chicken, half American) the rest ate a Parma (parmi for the Adelaidians), pasta and the biggest quinoa salad I've ever seen. Mains were nice and filling and pretty damn tasty. Considering this place was packed, they did a good job. Walked in gaunt, left 5kgs heavier.

Great location, staff were friendly, reasonably priced. The salmon was delicious and very fresh! The made-to-order fresh juice was also very nice. Highly recommended if you are down by the beach.

Have eaten here a few times now and have to say i haven't been disappointed. The food tends to be always at quite a high level. Tonight may have been the nicest meal yet though. Partner and I ate here tonight and both ordered steaks. One chefs special black angus and one prime beef in bacon. Both were asked to be medium rare and were pretty close to that but in parts tended to be more rare (which we both prefer so was fine). Service was very good also which seems to be the norm rather than the exception. The only thing is virtually everything is overpriced which has been mentioned in many other reviews. Probably due to the Jetty road rent prices. Garlic bread, bottle of wine, and 2 steaks cost us $85 but that was with 25% off on the Entertainment book card.
So good food, but overpriced, but good food. Make your own decion..

Nice cafe situated at the busy jetty road, Glenelg. The cafe offers indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is pretty much under the shed which is good and pets are allowed around that area (bonus tick).
Service : greet by friendly staffs. Very friendly and polite. We were told the main will take about 25-30mins to be served. It was really nice of them to tell us but the cafe doesn't seem to be busy. There are only 3-4 tables indoor and 2 tables outdoor. Well, I suppose something happens but I appreciate them being honest informing the customers. We did wait for about half an hour. All mains arrive at he same time.
Food - we order garlic bread while waiting for main. Garlic bread was pretty unique. A fluffy flat bread with a good amount of garlic and butter. Main - the salt and pepper squid is fairly crispy but part of it is a bit soggy. It's served with salads with balsamic vinegar - pretty well seasoned. Light and yummy dish. We also order the King Henry pork and salmon. Salmon was cook to perfection served with some cold potato salad (potato salad is not my cup of tea - seasoning was a bit off). Personally I would have prefer mashed potato with the salmon. King Henry pork has a beautiful thick meat, cook all the way through evenly served with Beetroot sauce. I love everything on that plate.
Drinks - hot beverages : coffee is so so, not strong enough for me. The coffee taste isn't bad but not one of the best. Plenty of other drinks to choose from.
The strand has been awarded for the best cafe before. Quality of food is pretty good and service could do with a bit of improvement. Hope to see them soon again.

The Strand is a pleasant cafe on the b u sy Jetty Road Glenelg. There is a lot of competition and so I wonder why they dont do a few extras.
The food has been excellent and all of our groip were happy with their meals. Coffee is fine but not exceptional.
The service is very good.
They are attentive, chatty, well organized, relaxed and witty. All the things some cafes lack.
On the improvement side there is no point of difference. They decor is plain and there is no theme or mood music. Perhaps a movie theme as it was a theatre or beach theme would mske us customers feel special.
We gave it 3.5

Came there for breakfast the other morning. Great food, great service and a nice quiet atmosphere (at least when I was there). Our server was one of the best we've ever had. He was very friendly, attentive and polite. Also the scrambled eggs were delicious. I'll definitely be returning soon!

Yummmmm never had a bad meal here & a great variety of dishes to choose from. My favourite cafe but always very busy & you need a booking. Considering how busy the staff are they are very warm, friendly & inviting. Not something you see very often in busy cafes or restaurants. Highly recommend đź‘Ťđź‘Ťđź‘Ť

I initially reviewed this restaurant/cafe a couple of years ago. I gave it a 4 rating, which after my experience last night I'd raise it to a 4.5. The staff are friendly and the service efficient. I ate with a party of 5 and everyone raved about their food. I had the vegetarian Verde Pappardelle Zucca which was the best pasta dish I've eaten in a very long time. Perfectly cooked pasta! Dessert was an enormous serve of Greek Kataifi, which I shared with my Mum and we couldn't eat it all. They get very busy so I'd recommend making a booking if you're planning on eating there on a Friday or Saturday night.

If there was an award for meal of the year the stunning kangaroo dish would steal it in a heartbeat.
The lamb shanks literally fell off the bone, the croquettes were also incredible.
For a cafe I was not expecting the high quality that was served to me.
Just simply divine, there is not much more that can be said. I was nearly lost for words as I consumed it. Every single bite was an absolute pleasure. Cooked to perfection the kangaroo fillet steak was sliced and then placed on a bed of sweet potato mash topped in a sweet Shiraz sauce iced with pickled cabbage garnished with rocket and you could nearly taste the love that this dish was made with.
The service was award winning and I can not wait to go back.
There's a reason why the cafe bustled with clientele and why the line was out the door.
Thank you for providing an exceptional all round experience.

Beachy atmosphere , friendly staffs, good squid salad - must try!

Really enjoyed dinner here, wait staff and chefs were friendly and fun, and the food was delicious. The menu had so many good options, I'll be back to try some more dishes.

Chefs and food a DELIGHT!!. Recently had a friends birthday at the strand cafe haven't been there so long I didn't know what to expect.
After being politely greeted at the door, our (rather large) booking was placed at the back of the restaurant. Had a wonderfull gluten free seafood pasta and as the birthday cake arrived the chefs all sang along with the table it was excellent.
Have to go again soon!

Best place in Glenelg. The food and staff there are always so lovely! Exceptional coffee and amazing deserts!

Great! Friendly, efficient & affordable!! First time visitor & we loved our breakfast's & atmosphere! Great start to our day!

Everything was tasty. The soft shell crabs were so nice to see on the daily special. The squicken salad was nice but a bit sweet.

Solid. I was impressed with my most recent dining experience here, which was on New Year's Eve.

A friend and I decided to head down to the bay after scouting town for restaurants and finding many to be closed. We weren't expecting a great deal of places to have availability on one of the busiest nights of the year, so I called a few eateries on the way to Glenelg to save some time. The gentleman whom I spoke with advised that they were busy, but would be able to accommodate us soon. He also offered a spot on the couch at the front of the café for drinks whilst we waited for a table.

I ordered gnocchi, and my friend a chicken dish. These were served quite promptly, considering the amount of patrons. As for the quality of the meal, it was tasty without being spectacular. I have been to Café Strand on a couple of other occasions and found the breakfast specials more impressive.

I'll return for the service, location and extensive menu.

We just had chicken, bacon, salad with mango chilli sauce focaccia & also a vegetarian. It was really fresh & delishious. Nice price and really fast service

The food was delicious. I really enjoyed my carrot soup - very flavoursome. I also enjoyed another dish which was essentially very tasty well seasoned meat on a stick with tsatsiki dipping sauce. Yummy. It had a terrible -sounding name though, like kofka lollypop or something. Sounds bad but it tasted good. The staff were great. I was really impressed by their friendliness & great customer service.
Cocktails were very nice.
Meals did take a little while, but to their credit, they somehow managed to get 25-30 different meals out at once so everyone was eating together. And I didn't hear one complaint from anyone on our table about their food. They were super busy.
Rose
Dinner at The Strand. Congratulations on the excellent service, fast delivery on the meal and yummy food. Well done!
Info
Kanucks Karving Kangaroo. While we were in Australia we wanted to try some "Roo" while down under and we were not disappointed , as tender and flavorful as the best steak we've ever tasted. The Street Cred red was as good a $30 bottle as you'll ever had and the staff outstanding, too. The staff were friendly and helpful, you won't go wrong at the Strand and we highly recommend the experience was great!!!
DanDan
We regularly drove from TTG to here for the Saville risotto with a cream base - one of the best I've had. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Serving sizes are very generous too - a favourite of ours!
Patrickkeane_13
One waiter.... Got the worst service I've ever received from one particular waiter. He sat us, when we gave him our order of 2 pizzas, he tried to talk us into going half-and-half on 1 pizza because apparently they were too big and we wouldn't be able to manage it (judging customers right there), so basically he tried to talk us out of what we ordered. After that he came back to take away one of our cutlery sets away thinking that she wasn't eating when she was, first mistake. Then when our drinks came out, he forgot one of the drinks. Then sure enough when our meals came out, one of the pizzas was wrong!

If a waiter stuffed up one of my orders, I'd appreciate it if they came back, explained what had happened and apologized. This guy didn't have the guts to even look at us! Food was alright and all the other staff seemed good, just a disaster that we had to be seated by that one.

I would go back, only with the guarantee that that one waiter does not seat us or take any of our orders.
Cafe
Happy. Lovely night Saturday 15/3. The Strand was pack, but service was still exceptional & food was amazing. Thanks for fitting us in! We will be back.

Carole. One of the best restaurants i have been to.proportions, amazing and service, menu, ambience couldnt fault it. keep up the good work. i could eat there every night. if you want amazing food treat yourself to a night at the strand.
Kaylene
Ordered funghi pizza lacking flavour needed to practically tip the whole salt shaker on it for it to taste somewhat decent and the dough wasn't fantastic. My husband ordered a calzone and the sauce on it tasted like it had been watered down. Rather disappointing don't think I would dine there again!
Gastron And Njom
Great Pizza. We were pleased to find out that Cafe Strand has a wood fired Pizza oven and recently found the time to check it out. It was a warm evening and we rocked up reasonably late, so we were able to take a table outside and enjoy the buzz along with a well priced bottle of Babich Sav Blanc, a very nice drop indeed. The service was excellent and the 2 pizzas we ordered were made and cooked perfectly. So happy to find a local joint that we can rely on when we need to satisfy those pizza cravings! Will be back regularly for sure! We had visited the Strand for breakfast and lunch previously, service and food have been excellent every time.
Yflorence
Pizza was bad!. The base was too thick...and the ingredients wasn't that fresh...will not recommend to go back

Awesome great food great atmosphere, very good customer service

The strand is one of my favorite places to eat. Fantastic food and and drinks. Love the cocktails!
Highly recommend!!!

Best cafe in Glenelg!. The Strand often gets overlooked being located half way up Jetty Road, however it is one of my favourites. I've never had a bad meal here. A lot of cafés close their kitchens between lunch and dinner but the strand is great as they continue serving pizzas and delicious wraps until 5pm. Lavazza coffee is nice and there's a great selection of cakes and desserts in the display cabinet at the front. Main courses can be expensive, but they are worth it, good quality food cooked to perfection and well presented every time. I have ordered off the 'specials' menu (which is forever changing) a number of times and would definitely recommend it for those looking to save a few dollars. Wine list is also extensive. I cannot fault this place!
Alex Walsh
Amazing food and good customer service. Nice atmosphere. Would go there every night if I could!
Pete
Have been going there for years and must say the food and service has always been consistent. Always friendly service and food comes out pretty quickly. Never had a bad meal there. It is getting a bit pricey though.

Great to be back. Having been interstate for the past couple years it was great to come back to Adelaide and its restaurants. Discovering some of my faves again, particularly The Strand at Glenelg. The food always brought me back there on a weekly basis, and its good to see the quality is still the same. Had my mothers birthday there on Monday, and we all enjoyed it, I ordered the Baramundi and was impressed both with the size and taste, it was nice to see some friendly recognisable faces still working there too. I dont live in Glenelg anymore but it is now going to be worth the drive.

Delicious breakfast, average coffee
Gina
Pizza was overpriced, terrible base in fact it wasn't fresh pizza dough at all, it was more like a savoury case on pizza for that price, what the? Note to pizza maker brush the oven regularly to avoid carcinogenic dust on the bottom of the pizza. Some restaurants really need a wake up call. Want pizza try Pizza & Mozarella Bar in the City authentic Italian stuff!
Anonymous
Food and service ok, overpriced though and loud. We had:
- shared hummus and grilled beef entree, 22$
- Mexican pizza and Tortellini boscaiola as mains, 29 and 25$ resp
The shared platter was nice but small for 2 and a bit bland.
The mains were decent size but clearly stingy on expensive ingredients such as meat, avocado (guacamole) etc.
fortunately we used our entertainment book vouchers for 25% off which put the meal more in its real price range. We won't come back though; the food was unremarkable, it was quite loud and we didn't feel at ease.
Skujam
Just bad, everyone should avoid - massively overpriced for what is essentially modern pub grub. To charge over $25 for a pizza or nearly $30 for a bad pasta is just ludicrous, management should be ashamed., Had the special pappardelle pasta - was supposed to be a basil pesto with bacon, but turned up as a tomato sauce with tough as leather beef chunks (wtf???)
Needless to say it was bad, poorly cooked, conceived and poorly executed - try again pasta chef!
Restaurant ambience was non existent, aged 1990's decor with tables and chairs to match and a soundtrack that seemed to be taken from "songs for the oldies" - awful.
I might sound like I am being harsh, but at $29 for a pizza for one (!!!!!!!!!), one can be excused for expecting a little more than glorified pub food with little or no imagination.
I won't be back and I suggest everyone gives it a miss - places like this only stay in business because people don't speak up and expect (deserve) better.
Alexis Bennett
Great rest. could improve cust service. I have been here about 4 or 5 times... the morrocan curry is amazing! and there are some signature dishes that yes, are a bit over priced but are worth it.
I no complaints about the food and table service is fast and effective however some of the staff lacked the friendly attitude that is important in hospitality... I got the vibe that they were more so about "serving the meal efficiently" then service with a smile... too much of rushed atmosphere.

Overall it is a great restaurant with a broad menu and very professional service...
Daisy Yum (daisyumblog)
The cafe used to be good, but it is definitely going downhill. The breakfast menu looked ordinary, the worst Mediterranean eggs I have ever had, looked more like a pie floater to me. It was sour and salty. The ciabatta was ok. Try somewhere else for breakfast.
Savannah
Consistently good. I've tried a few items here and always had a good meal. the breakfast is delicious and the service is usually prompt and friendly. the seafood salad is great and a generous serve. coffee is good too. if you're after a solid performance, this is it.
Leeroy
An old favourite and reliable Cafe. Great food, good service but a little pricey!!

Cafe Strand Glenelg. It's hard to find a place that strives to exceed people's expectations like the Strand. Sure they have their ups and downs, but I think they continue to be one of the best in Adelaide. I've been going there for years. I have struck the odd average meal, but most of my experiences there have been very positive. I love the Strand.
Wasklywabbit
Have eaten here several times and haven't been able to fault it. Friendly, accommodating staff, reasonably priced good portioned meals and a great atmosphere.
Eggplant
Keep coming back for the kangaroo! Pizzas come a close second! Staff always very pleasant and smiling! Good selection of wines. Atmosphere is great most nights of the week, in summer book, or get in early.
Angeline Yee
Went there for a birthday celebration on a friday night.Though dinner service was quite slow (took roughly 45min to start serving), the staff were friendly and helpful. Their Moroccan curry (together with some date chutney and cinnamon yoghurt) was yummy. =) the serving size is quite large and satisfying. Would recommend this place

First time in Glenelg. I've asked around for a nice place to eat in town. The Strand was highly recommended by locals and also Urbanspoon, so I thought it would be a safe choice... Sat down if I had not stood up to approach some staff I would probably still be waiting. Had to order drinks first because it was too early to order lunch. 15 minutes later, my milkshake had still not arrived... Had to ask a staff again and it magically appeared 2 minutes later! I ordered a moussaka thinking it's a mediterranean place so I assumed it'd be authentic and very good... Waited 20 minutes for it and had to ask a staff again! I can't believe that the Bechamel they put on top was so bad... I would NEVER eat there ever again! Long wait - and the place was not even busy! - and food very average!

Do they really care. Have been regulars of the strand for quite some time but have found on the last few visits that the service and food has deteriorated, because they are so busy do they not care if one or two customers have bad service? Approached a staff member and complained about the service and they said they they were busier than expected and did not have the staff to allow for how busy it was after a very busy weekend, as a customer this is not my fault and good food and service should be of utmost importance even if they are busy, no appologies, just deal with it! No longer a regular, too many other restaurants at the bay to go somewhere that does not care, i would rather pay more and have good food and service

Eat breakfast watching the world. A great Glenelg eatery that is always buzzing. Always regulars for dinner and thought we should try out breakfast. My fellow fusser eating hating eggs found it very difficult to find something wholesome, deciding on a simple ham a cheese crossiont. I had Hotcakes with berries, which tasted way to similier to a greens package, but none the less a great place for a quick breakfast, with great hot coffee to match. Others full breakfasts looked amazing with generous serves for reasonable prices.

Food was delicious but coffee atrocious ! Staff not very friendly.

The Best cafe in Glenelg without a doubt. The food is always amazing and the service is second to none.
I always recomend this place to all my clients.
Keep up the good work Boys.

Eaten here numerous times & it has always been lovely. Good service, big portions, great atmosphere (though a bit noisy at times) and have the best hot chips, delicious.

Booked a table for 7.30 didn't eat till 8.30!! The place was packed and found that there was a problem with their systems relaying orders to the kitchen so we got complimentary coffees. :) The drinks menu was extensive. The decor was lovely be it a little noisy. When the food came out the portions were massive (we ordered 4 pasta dishes) Would def go back just to see what a normal day's service is like

Don't bother buying a discount voucher for this place as they will not accept it if too many people are already book in with one on that day. Apparently they need space for 'paying' customers, and the fact that you have pre-paid is irrelevant. Poor, poor show

GLACIAL SERVICE AVERAGE FOOD. Dined on a Wednesday evening before 7pm with family and friends. Service on arrival, and drink service was excellent.

It went downhill from the taking of food orders! After about 50 minutes with no food in sight, staff apologied for the delay and said the "chef promised food would be ready in 7 minutes".

About 10 minutes later (ie, an hour after orders were taken), the food started to arrive and continued to do so over the next 5-10 minutes.

My medium-rare steak was average (cooked perfectly, but of average quality - far below the quality of a (less expensive) steak I had a Outback Jacks, Marion, a week earlier). Others in the party were happy enough with their meals (although the person next to me commented that a third of her risotto appeared to be onion!)

This experience - average food with long delays - is consistent with a previous visit to the Stand about 6 months ago. I said then that I would not return....but I didn't organise this gathering. In future, I'll decline an invitation to the Strand!

Stranded. I have good memories of the Strand and found myself craving the chicken salad that they have on the menu... (and have had for many years!).
The salad was good, very lettuce heavy though not much corm which is my fave part! My friend had the steak which he commented was a dry and overcooked (he ordered medium), so at $35 he was dissapointed - but the parmesen and mushroom polenta that it was served on was great!
As mentioned, I have good memories of the Strand and have been here many times (but not too much lately), these days I find the food leaves me a little dissapointed and feel that it is quite expensive for what it is. Cant figure out if the Strand has changed or I have!
But after that whinge, I do have to say that the coffee is still great.

Well positioned. Good Food. BUT- be warned that the coffee is often sub-par and the atmosphere often very noisy.

Good food and great service. You know, you can't go wrong at a place that really is all things to all people. a true icon on the jetty walk. i would eat here at least once a week if i lived in the town. worth the detour from the city. the owners are great, and staff seem to be there to make your life easier too, top notch!

The Strand. I love this place, even better that is is walking distance from my house. I frequent the cafe alot, the staff are always friendly and professional. great for just a coffee or breakfast.

Located on the busy Jetty Road business strip, The Strand offers all your traditional Italian favourites.
On The Chopping Board
A perfect 30 degree Summer day in Adelaide definitely calls for a drive down to Glenelg. Jetty Road seems to change every time I see it but I've walked past The Strand a few times and never really payed much attention to it, I'd always thought it's just your average Cafe serving Italian food. However I was in a mood for a wood fired pizza so I thought I'd give it a go.

Overall, I am disappointed with The Strand. It seems to be meandering along on a good reputation made years ago-and it would appear management have no desire to bring it back to the note-worthy restaurant it once was.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
Staying with Hungry Pete between Christmas and New Years at his West Beach penthouse apartment, Café Strand at Glenelg was one of the places I had marked out to try. As well as receiving positive comments on the net it was the perfect distance away for a pre and post breakfast walk along the beach. The Café is located in either an old art deco building which has been fairly heavily modified, or maybe a newer building done up in a similar style. It's well lit with bright colours, but to me it felt a bit generic and lacking in personality. Nice enough but didn't set my world on fire, which turned out to be the theme of the morning. Hungry Pete's breakfast de jour was the hot cakes with chocolate hazelnut spread, crushed hazelnuts and cream. I must admit, I wasn't that impressed with the look of these when they came out. The hotcakes themselves looked like a larger version of something I'd expect to get at a Hungry Jacks or McDonalds, just tarted up a bit by the crushed hazelnuts on the

The Strand at 108 Jetty Road, Glenelg is right next to Jack's Fish Shack reviewed earlier. It is a large Café with plenty of seating inside and outside. The table service is fast and efficient. The hot chocolate is $3.50 for a cup or $4.50 for a mug...
