Review Glenelg Barbeque Inn - Glenelg

David Maddison
Wow - these guys are super generous with their portions and steaks! We all had doggie bags to take home with us because we were so full but happy to be able to relive the meals again the next day for lunch. Cosy, family restaurant with friendly service and outrageously good grilled meat

Had 2 lovely fillet steaks. The staff are amazing, so friendly and efficient. Would definitely return

Great steak, excellent flavor. Good service. Opportunity to expand your stomach if you like with some huge steaks.

Have been going here since I was a kid in the 70s. Food is still fantastic, great service, great facilities. Interesting the ratio of men to women was 3 to 1. I think they have the best meat in Adelaide. A little disappointed this time as I like my steak rare and it came out Blue, just as well I prefer my meat under cooked rather than over. Can't think of nothing worst than an over cooked steak. Keep up the great tradition. Highly recommended. Parking on Jetty road is difficult to find. Must book early, don't just turn up as you will be disappointed and miss out.

I came here for my birthday like a few years ago and then we ended up stumbling upon this restaurant again. I had the same item each time, the 900gram Texas T-bone. It was so juicy and tender. Perfectly rare and oh my, it did not leave me wanting any more. A great space for a wine and dine type meal. I would've like to see some different beers on the menu, Yebisu perhaps. Overall it's worth visiting and I suggest getting really hungry if you're going for the big one.

Overrated. The small dining room is so crowded and noisy you can’t have a reasonable conversation. The meats, whist they appear to be of good quality, are under seasoned, not seasoned or not properly prepared and consequently lacking in flavour. That’s not so much of an issue because you’ll be so hungry by the time the food gets to you (I waited around 35 mins) you’ll eat it anyway. On the positives, the staff are friendly and polite and the chevap sausages, bean soup and salads are nice. Look elsewhere for a steak.

Heard good things so went out of our way to seek this place out. Did not disappoint. Quality meat and quite reasonable given the serving sizes.

Hands down the best steak place in Adelaide... Forget gauchos, this place has them on the ropes... Great Value and wonderful service and staff, super friendly and very hospitable... Would definately come back again and again .. and again...

Truly the best value for money steak in Australia! Full disclosure...this is our home away from home, but there’s a reason for that. The great wine selection and perfectly barbecued meats & seafood, (cooked on the massive coal fired grill at the entrance to the restaurant) make for a hearty experience for the whole family.

Here, the brilliance is in the SA regional meat quality and Chefs’ barbecuing skills.

Don't know why this place has such high ratings... We came here over the long weekend and ordered a steak and burger. My partner said it was one of the worst steaks he has had. The steak was plain and didn't come with any sauce. The signature salad was underwhelming and it was extra $ for chips. The chicken burger was very plain with simple salad and mayonnaise which made it merely satisfactory. Chips were ok though.
The interior of this place feels like a cafeteria and the waiter guy was clumsy.
High price for underwhelming food. Could cook better steaks at home on the BBQ.

Best steak house in Adelaide. Price is affordable for such premium steak. Steak are cooked almost in perfection most of the time. Recommend to all steak lovers.

The steaks are excellent but if you don't want steak they will BBQ chicken, lamb & pork cuts over their charcoal grill. The steaks come as ordered. (At some other places you may order medium rare but it arrives as medium, for example).
The accompaniments are simple & there is no dessert menu but if you want a good steak... this is a great place to go. Steaks come from huge to small. It's a good idea to book as its always busy.

Best steak place in Adelaide. No smoke and mirrors here, just top quality food. Value for money aswell, and you know your paying for what you get and not paying for a name or 'region' e.g. Argentinian etc

We had steaks here the other day. Whilst the steak/meat was relatively cheap compared to other eatery that serves steak, we don't think the steak was well made. For example, medium rare came out very rare! It was bloody. Service was prompt and polite otherwise.

Boring and brilliant.. They serve bbq meat. Good meat. Actually, great meat. This meat comes with salad. There are chairs and there are tables. There is a television at the back. No music, no decor (or at least, no change of decor for the past couple of decades it seems). And yet... we loved it. The concept is so simple and popular that you can hear, I'm sure, the walls of the joint laughing at all the other restaurant ideas that have been submerged in frill. This place is unapologetically boring (but brilliant).

Always The Glenelg BBQ Inn. I have been going there for years. Another Mixed Grill with a Lamb Shaslick ordered another great meal. Consistant never disappoints. An Adelaide icon eating place BRAVO.

Unseasoned meat was tasteless but well cooked. Worst BBQ ever. Never to be repeated. Chevaps from supermarket and pan fried have better flavour.

What an awful dinner I had tonight with my friends. From forgetting his dinner and telling us it would be another 20 minutes with no compensation, to having it finally come out and spilling it on the table. Not once did anyone apologise or help until I complained. Never coming here again

Had a terrible experience tonight, which is a real shame as I had previously had some wonderful meals here. 4 of us sat and ordered, but only 3 orders came out. The young waitress apologised and told us it would be a 20 minute wait for the meal. Are you kidding me? The suggestion was for my friend to "share with your mate" until his meals come out. Sorry but not good enough. It took us going up to the manager at the desk (who didn't understand the complaint) to offer us a free round of drinks. So my friends meal comes out after 15 mins and the waitress drops the steak off the plate and onto the table. Steaks juice now on my friends pants. Again and apology and we are told his new steak will be another 7 minutes. At no point did a manager bother to come to our table to apologise personally. A comedy of errors. Will not be going back.

Absolutely love! This is my favourite steak restaurant. Never disappoints. I have referred this place to friends who all love it too. I always order the chicken shaslick and fillet steak. The salad on the side is simple but a perfect accompaniment to the meal.

Very disappointing. We came in for lunch and were not impressed in the slightest with the food. We ordered 2 mixed grills “porterhouse, kobasica, cevapi and chicken skewers served with traditional salad”. I have to say the chicken was probably the best thing on the plate. The porterhouse was tough, the “kobasica” was just a very ordinary BBQ sausage ala Woolworths and the traditional salad a very poor attempt at “krompir and kupus salata” which tasted like mayo and not much else. However, the biggest let down was probably the sub-par cevapcici which tasted bland and very lacking and were obviously not made according to any traditional cevapcici recipe as all I could taste was bland beef mince. All I can say is if you are in the mood for traditional cevapi as they should taste head off the the Burek lounge on Findon Rd and you will not be disappointed. I have to say I was impressed with our lovely waitress who was polite and very attentive.

Not what i exected. Ok so this place says it does the best steak in Adelaide, I have had better and for less, however if its big portions of meat you want this is the place. large charcoal cooked steaks and meat kebabs (these were very nice) all served with coleslaw.
It has a canteen feel with cheap tables and chairs and very busy, the steak was ok but a bit tough, I would not go back simply because there are better steaks out there and as this is there only offering...why would you?

Ordinary. Not impressed! I ordered the mixed grill and opted for the lamb shaslick. If this was lamb they need to change their butcher - did not taste like lamb, mutton or any other aged sheep. We were all at a loss to identify it but if I was to hazard a guess I'd say it was some kind of game. The rest of the grill was ordinary with only the porterhouse steak worth eating. Having said that, others in my party said that their meals were OK - we all ordered different items. However, we all agreed that OK is not good enough for the prices charged for meals. This is not a cheap and cheerful restaurant so we expected the quality to be a lot better than it was. The wine list was good and priced as you would expect for a restaurant. I found that most of the waiting staff were efficient and friendly - although there was one who would definitely benefit from more training - She wasn't rude - just clueless. I doubt if any of us will go back.
Always Hungry
This place is ok, I definitely didn't leave hungry. The decor is very outdated and reminds me of a country pub dining room. It's a mans dream; a towering plate of meat with next to no salad. Think family BBQ, only your family's not there. Probably won't go back, not my cup of tea but you should try it at least once. Good wine selection

SIMPLY EXCELLENT STEAK. We were on a 1 week visit to Adelaide and were told of this restaurant as well as reading previous reviews here on this site.
The decor was certainly nice enough, whilst not too overboard, and the staff were great. How nice to see a traditional family owned business these days, where the owner is the operator. This always results in a better experience in my opinion.
(Our young waiter informed us the family were the original owners of the famous Adelaide BBQ Inn, Hindley St., which has now closed.)
There's plenty of meats to choose from and we chose the monster T-bone as we had not eaten lunch that day, luckily as it turned out.
The steak arrived perfectly medium-rare and was HUGE, from memory it's 800 or 850 gram minimum. It was wonderful melt in your mouth meat with the aforementioned salad etc.
We were that impressed we ate there again before leaving Adelaide.
You won't find a better steak in South Oz.
(This would have cost double in certain infamous Melbourne steak places.)

If you want steak in Glenelg ....... .... This is absolutely the place. Don't look for too many extras, it's meat, meat, meat, but THE best meat you will find. Love it and will be back over and over.

Meat, meat and more meat. If youre in the mood for a good steak then this is the place to come. The place is nothing flash and resembles a food hall but it does the job. You get a basket of white sliced bread, butter and all meals are served with potato salad and coleslaw. Prices are reasonable for the quality served.
The Feed Report
The small porterhouse turns out to be enough meat for a meal, on its own. It’s a nice, juicy piece of meat, but nothing exciting. The mustard I’m given is extremely mild, and there’s not much of it.

The chevapchichis are spongy and have a sausagy taste.

The giant chicken shaslick is, again , soft and juicy, and well-cooked, but it doesn’t really have a taste other than a few spots of char on the outside.

The sausage fits the same formula as everything else here.

The slaw doesn’t have any mayonnaise. It may have a small amount of olive oil or other tasteless addition. It’s surprisingly not bitter, and manages to be edible but very boring.

As you walk in, you can see the premium cuts of meat behind the front counter refridgerator, and at the rear, there are sizzling meats cooking away on the charcoal grill. The menu is simple and straight forward, offering a selection of shaslicks, sausages, pork chops, chicken and various cuts of beef.
