Review Green Tea House - Glenelg

Clive Bowden
One of my favourite restaurants in Adelaide. Unassuming location where you wouldn't expect a good feed, but do they deliver authentic Vietnamese! With the mum cooking out the back, this place is super friendly and accommodating. Service is great, and the food came out quick, hot and very tasty! The grilled betel leafs with beef were moist, savory and a great appetizer! The authentic mini rice pancakes with pork and prawn took me back to the street markets in Asia. Crispy base, moist pancake and enough filling for a great snack. Mains are generous portion sizes, and with prawns sourced locally (Port Lincoln) you can't go wrong. Will be coming back again soon!

Get the beef goi salad, it will not disappoint, trust me. At first I was not interested as I wanted tofu so I got extra tofu on the salad just in case but holy smokes, the beef was so good! Thin, juicy, flavourful. It is perfect for a small snack on a hot day or as a side to have with a heavier meal. The vibes in the restaurant were good but I will definitely be coming back for that beef salad šŸ¤¤

A lot of Chinese food and some Thai and Indonesian on the menu. If youā€™re not familiar with which ones are Vietnamese I would definitely ask so you get an authentic experience. The entrees were DELICIOUS but the mains were pretty flavourless. The minced prawn was nice but we didnā€™t know it would be processed. Really friendly staff. They have high chairs too. Would be back though.

The food was fabulous and so delicious! The service staff were very friendly, professional and efficient! Really good, we enjoyed it a lot! The 'mums special springrolls' were the BEST!

I had a banquet here with my colleagues and was blown away. The staff catered for me being vegetarian, and there was no shortage of food. Food came out hot and was tasty and refreshing. The place was clean and tidy and the staff were friendly and accomodating. Fantastic location if you are visiting Glenelg. I would definitely recommend!

Decent menu selection for a reasonable price. The food felt more like a fusion of Vietnamese dishes and other Asians country cuisines. I had the Broken rice and pork chop special had pork crackling (which was average). It was a weird combination. The traditional broken rice and pork chop special is better.

Friendly service to start, ordered and paid, then the dining experience went downhill from there. Beer ordered, no glass offered (husband did not want one anywayā€¦ but). Seafood spring rolls, nice, small but average, (unsure if home made, have had almost the same elsewhere), chicken satay, very dry, very stringy and nice peanut sauce. Pad Thai, very tomato saucy, very sweet, no lemon/lime or peanuts provided until I asked. Mongolian Sizzling beef stir fry, fresh vegetables, ok meat, but sauce could have been out of a jar, again very average. Most certainly could do much better with wait/service (bringing water to table rather than saying to get it yourself) and creating authentic Thai food.

We arrived on fri nite having made a mistake when booking and only booked for 6 of us when there was 8 of us arriving. We apologised and asked if it was possible for a table of 8. The restaurant was incredibly busy but the amazing staff arranged a table at the back and nothing was too much trouble. We met Tan who explained the menu and we decided to have a banquet for$29 each. We let Tan choose all of the meals. The food came hot and was absolutely delish. We had so much food it was great value. We could not fault the amazing array of wonderfully chosen dishes. Of course mums spring rolls are to die for. Thanks to the wonderful staff and the very bubbly and likeable Tan. We will be back very soon

Having gone in never having Vietnamese before it was probably the best experience outside of actually going to Vietnam!! We both went on the waitresses advice on what to eat and was not disappointed!! Great food, great service and a nice cosy restaurant to boot. 10/10

1st time here & we had fantastic service from the moment we walked through the door. They explained the menu to us on arrival, had cold bottled water for us & made us feel really welcome. The food was hot & fresh, so tasty & we enjoyed every part of this dining experience. Will be back again & will recommend this to all our family & friends. Keep up the great work guys.

Wow what a place! Stunning decor, unbelievably tasty and flavours are incredible, this place has it all! Very friendly wait staff. Lunch specials are fantastic and for Glenelg very reasonable. Thank you for opening in this overpriced bland neighbourhood!

The food was fantastic , but my daughter had to wait an extra 10 minuets for her food which makes it hard to carry on eating when someone is just sat waiting. In all a lovely meal.

Excellent service and food thoughly enjoyed the evening with my wife. The food, beer & Vietnamese iced coffee took us back to our time spent in Ho Chi Minh city last year. Keep it front of house Ken done a magnificent job making it a wonderful night.

My friend and I were in Adelaide from the Riverland, called into Glenelg for Lunch, I have Celiacs disease, so have to be extremely careful what I eat, staff were terrific, and I was able to eat in confidence knowing that I was eating gluten free! We will return! Many thanks for a most enjoyable experience

Literally sitting in the front booth of this restaurant submitting this review. If you want the tastiest pho in Adelaide, make a trip to Glenelg. So good we came back two nights in a row! Divine food and great service! ļæ½

I had the singapore noodles. They were very tasty and came out nice and hot! The service was great and the food came out promptly. The pricing is reasonable.

Great place to eat. Friendly service

We are vegetarian and selected Vietnamese cuisine as itā€™s normally a great option. We proceeded to order the vegetarian laksa which seemed fine until about half way through and a brown hue appeared from the base of my bowl. To my dismay this brown hue turned out to be a big chunk of beef ! Complete with a nice rim of fat and leathery gristle. A totally unacceptable mistake.

Itā€™s not bad Vietnamese food here! The service is really friendly in a good way and food took a little while to come out. Itā€™s the prices which surprised but then again itā€™s close to the beach!

Not going to give three key pointers just going to say there is not much in Glenelg and this is probably one of the better food options. Not the best Vietnamese I have had but definitely not the worse. The vegetables were fresh, calamari was nicely battered. The spring rolls were not how we like rather thick and very oily but had a good taste.

Very busy on a Saturday night but they fit us in. Very efficient and friendly staff. Highly recommend the chicken pho: full of flavour and came with condiments that were yummy! Sizzling beef was great too, make sure you order a side of rice!

Food here were okay, it was packed when we were there and lucky we got seats, price wise was a bit higher than normal but its understandable as it was on tourist spot and the coconut was very refreshing. Service was okay, the bartender whom also welcoming guest were super friendly and accomodating.

Went here on a Tuesday night, plenty of customers here compared to most other places in the area. Had the little rice cakes, quail and stuffed betel leaves for entree. The little cakes were the least tasty, quail and betel leaves were nice. For main five spice goat hot pot and big stuffed pancake which were both quite nice. Service was quick and very friendly, great place to grab a bite.

Definitely worth a visit! The food was delicious, it had a very cosy atmosphere, and the service was perfect. It was very busy however our food arrived within 5 minutes, at least. We couldnā€™t believe it! Will definitely be returning!

The restaurant was half full service was quick. I ordered Pho with Chicken breast the broth was sweet and the chicken looked and tasted processed not chicken roll processed but processed nevertheless. I had cheaper and better Pho with chicken

My wife and I have been going to Green Tea House since it opened.
Today we ordered take away, upon opening it at home, we realized the order was not complete. My wife called, the woman who answered advised that she realized after Iā€™d left that sheā€™d forgotten stuff, but didnā€™t bother chasing me because I was probably too far away.... To which my wife advised that weā€™d given our name and number upon ordering, so why didnā€™t they call to advise me?
She didnā€™t really have an answer, so put her manager on the phone.... when my wife calmly explained the situation, he responded saying ā€˜listen darling, you would have seen that it was busy when you got here, so obviously itā€™s been overlooked!ā€™
Long story short, he had zero interest in rectifying the issue and was very rude to my wife, eventually hanging up on her.....

No longer loyal customers, we will never go back after being treated so poorly!

Green Tea House was outstanding! The staff are friendly, always smiling and quick service, the food was flavoursome, and it was a great atmosphere. Our new fav in Adelaide.

This time we'd like to try a vietnamese food at glenelg and our choice fall to Green Tea Restaurant. We didn't order much just Roast Crackling Pork Vermincelli Noodles, Roast Crackling Pork on rice and cucumber and pickles, and Thai Pandan Chicken.
All were beautiful and yum. It wasn't expensive. All food are only $55 including coconut water and avocado smoothies. Service is good as well

Good entrees and mains and a great decor and atmosphere.Ā Service was mediocre and slow.Ā AND THEN there was desert.Ā I'm sorry, but Coconut Ice Cream is NOT vanilla ice cream with some shavings of dried coconut on top.Ā Mixed feelings about this place.

Food was average but very disappointing considering the high prices. Service was very disappointing, I went with a friend and when we ordered we specifically asked for separate bills, but when we went to pay we were told we would both have to pay a $2 fee for bill splitting. I was then told that the EFTPOS machine was unable to do cents which meant my meal was rounded up to the nearest dollar which meant I had to pay an extra 20c for my already overpriced meal. After I paid the machine proceeded to allow my friend to pay her meal with cents. Overall very disappointed in the overall experience and will not be eating here again.

Best meal we had in Glenelg!Ā What a wonderful restaurant, great staff, great service and best of all the most amazing, tasty food!Ā Prices are reasonable as well which was nice.Ā Wish we lived in Adelaide as I would be there all the time.

Excellent customer service and choices of food are fantastic we had a few dishes to share, the servings are decent sized and value for money. Definitely will be back

In 200 plus reviews , I've only ever given a handful of 4.5/5. Ā Ā Yes Green Tea House deserves it. We spent some time here eating our way through the menu.We ordered progressively and each dish was just so tasty and moreish. I could again and suggest you also should set aside an entire evening ( at least a few hours ) to savour their fare.Ā Service was prompt and polite, they seem to have a high table turnover and the front of house are always rather busy. Understandably so.

Great hit the spot food after a day of cheese & wine tasting. Delicious Pho, fresh tasty salad & the pancake was great. Friendly & quick take away service so we could get back to our apartment & chill.

Delicious food in a lovely laid back environment. We ordered the Vietnamese pancakes and cold rolls. Both were light and tasty. Would visit again

Loved this restaurant so much we went back the next night. Friendly staff who served you quickly instead of sitting there waiting 15 minutes until someone can get to you. The food was tasty, fresh and good value for money. Restaurant is clean, maybe a little noisy, but hey what good restaurant isn't. I have nothing bad to say about this place. Highly recommend it to everyone. Can't wait to get back there next time we're in the area!

Worst Vietnamese food I've triedĀ

Food 2/5
Price 2/5
Service 3/5
Atmosphere 4/5
Dishes variety 3/5

Greentea house has always been a place I go pass and say I will visit. Located in the heart of Glenelg it's a nicely furbished restaurant offering typical vietnamese dishes. I had entered with anticipation as the place had a nice vibe with a good crowd so I expected the food to be of decent if not great. Unfortunately it did not live up to my expectation at all Ā as the kitchen staff was rude and the food was way below average. We ordered make your own cold rolls with sugar cane prawns, a side of pork balls and a stir fry noodle. The accompaniments given to make the colds rolls was the bare minimum, the pork balls were cooked in a gooey sauce instead of the traditional grilled skewers and the stir fry noodles simply look like a blob as the sauce was thick and flavourless. In additional, the price was above average which I believe may be due to location. Ā Vietnamese cuisines are not popular in the southern suburbs of Adelaide, it's a shame the standards of this place is so low.

If you don't have Vietnamese restaurants in your country, you will be drawn to this menu but only after tasting you realise that it's just a better version or let's say a milder version of Chinese food. Nonetheless the food is edible, portions are big and food is tasty.

We tried the item number 21,34 and 47 and they were all good šŸ˜œšŸ˜ŽšŸ˜œšŸ˜Ž

Wasn't to what I expected from a Vietnamese restaurant. I wondered what was with name also? Not much Green tea about it?! Food wasn't great for the price. I think just too much MSG in some foods as I had a really bad headache after.

First time try this Vietnames restayrant at Glenelg. We ordered Pork belly cold rolled. It was nyummy and the portion is enough for 2 people. The staff are friendly and also made sure that we got our order and after that they check if we beed something else.
Def will come back for sure!

Was really excited to see a new Vietnamese restaurant opening up down Glenelg however was disappointed with the food and service and won't be back. Took a while to get seated, some of our entree (even though we asked for it a few times) did not come out and mains were very average in flavour. Will stick to the city for good Vietnamese food from now on. Was also a bit annoyed because when we went to pay the bill they didn't believe us when we told them we didn't receive entree and weren't paying for it.

Fresh tasty beautiful food.
Staff were in abundance.
We had lots of different dishes every one was different in taste and so fresh.
Casual dining at it best.
