Review Phuket Thai - Glenelg

Vicky Crittenden
First time at this restaurant. Ordered, fresh chilli, prawn and vegetable stir fry with rice and a curry with rice. The meals were beautifully presented, great serves, tasty, and very fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was relaxed and the waitress helpful and friendly. Enjoyed everything. They do takeaways which is convenient. The restaurant is not too big but comfortable with simple decor. This restaurant is worth visiting.

Food was great, but the experience not so much. We waited for about an hour for the mains and when asked why its taking so long, the answer was well you had your entrees already. Perhaps it was a busy night, but seems that they need more helpers on the floor or in the kitchen, as quite a few tables who had started after us, finished before we even got our mains .. pity as the food was actually really good ..

Lovely place with some interesting dishes. Went here with my family and we all really enjoyed it. The food was quite nice and had a good variety, and the servers were all really friendly. The only things I didn't like about the restaraunt were that it was a bit cramped, and the deserts were a bit bland (we had the banana cake thing and the banana fritters). They were interesting to try at least once though, and the rest of the food was enjoyable. I strongly recommend sharing dishes though if you go to eat here. While the dishes are nice, they get a bit "samey" when you just eat the one thing. They're also quite big, so three people would probably only need two.

Legendary restaurant, I think it’s 30 years. The food and service is great. The flavors are authentic and the servings are perfect. I like to go here once a year for a special occasion or everyone and then for a take away. The best thing however are the home made desserts.

Very good overall. Pleasant setting friendly staff. Did not give 5 stars as there was no stand out dish in what we ordered food was good all the same.

Went here for a family dinner recently and really enjoyed the food. I got the choo chee prawns and they were cooked perfectly in an interesting and delicious sauce. I also had some spring rolls which were great. My partner had phud me noodles and he really liked them. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals too and the service was good too.

Started out a good evening and all meals ok except for massaman curry. Was extremely salty, and I left most of the dish, couldn’t eat it. My husband tried it and agreed. Advised the waitress who reacted with amusement, did not take it seriously at all. Mentioned to the owner (presumably) when paying the bill, and whilst we received an apology (begrudgingly) it was followed up by some comments questioning if I had eaten this dish before and how this is how they serve it? Didn’t appreciate being patronised. I know massaman curry, I’ve enjoyed it at numerous Thai restaurants in Melbourne and intestate and that IS NOT how it should taste!! Attitude of the owner and staff was disappointing, won’t be going back unfortunately!

Thai red curry tasted like watery soup and when we informed the waiter, very conveniently responded by saying that is how we make it and it's authentic. Been having Thai food all my life but this was my worse experience

Absolutely solid. This place is a little bit of an institution and I’m glad we finally got to try it. Lots of wonderful options, and quite yummy. If it’s not a super busy night the service will be super prompt, otherwise a tad slower. Very friendly and accommodating owners. We look forward to coming back!

Have been eating at Phuket for over 20 years. My wife and I like many other regulars keep going as the food is always good as mum and dad make it. This is a first class family restaurant. I recently ordered the wrong fish dish (my mistake) and the manager (Sai) took it away and gave me my usual chilli barramundi!! I protested at the waste but he said dad would eat it for his dinner!
The home made spring rolls are excellent as is the green chicken curry, phad thai noodles and of course no 23 chilli fish!
I have read the bad reviews and something doesn't seem right about them!

Delicious food and good service thank you - the Restaurant was very busy - always a good sign and we weren’t disappointed. We had red Curry with beef - brought out the perspiration! And Phad Thai was lovely too😀

Pad Thai was awesome except not enough prawns in it. The curry “puffs” weren’t puff pastry but looked like filo pastry and average mush inside them. The chicken Satays were yuk. The satay sauce they give you tastes horrid. I couldn’t even finish it. That being said pad Thai flavour was really good 🙂

The food did not taste like I was in Phuket or anywhere near Thailand... was over priced and of low quailty. The meat dry and there was alot of garlic in the drunken noodles.

We were disappointed with the table service to start with. Wait staff reached across us all night to pass drinks and collect empty crockery, even spilling noodle juice into a guest’s lap.

Our meals were served sporadically - had we not asked twice for a dish, we wouldn’t have had it.

We’ve eaten here many times over the years, and it seems the food quality is diminishing with time. I’d love to hear the staff have been trained properly and the food has improved.

Simoly just amazing food and friendly staff. I have been there miltiple times now, honestly best Thai food I've had in Adelaide. I highly recommend It!

Honest review here.
This place IS the place for a great night of Thai food.
My wife, 3 kids and I went here on a Sunday night for dinner. Place was half full so not too busy.
Jetty rd can be hard for parking so you'll probably have to look in the side streets.
The place is nothing special to look at but it's clean and simple, and the service is 5 star from greeting you as you walk in to leaving after your meal.
The menu has most of the Thai classics with a selection of specials, and price-wise its on par with most typical places, ranging $15-25 for mains.
The service - we were WELL attended to. We were served promptly, courteously at all times and food and drinks came out quickly and when promised.
The food. Entrees were spring rolls, pranw patties and fish cakes and were not only decent sizes, but were so juicy and tasty that you'd probably could just eat that and forget the mains. The spring rolls are also VERY GOOD - packed with meat and vegies inside, not just pastry like some other places.
My wife's barramundi dish was SPECTACULAR. Best we've ever had. Cook properly and we can still smeel the crispiness of that skin!. We couldn't eat it all there was so much.
I had the chicken thigh fillet green curry. Wow - never seen the chicken so tender and fall apart so nicely.
My kids had noodles and stir fry vegetables with beef, and while they probably dont appreciate good quality, i had a taste and was blown away by how juicy and soft the noodles were, as well as the beef pieces and vegetables.
Their meals are definitely freshly cooked and made with choice ingredients.
At the end of the night, we paid $175 for 5 main meals with 3 entrees and drinks (including a few wines) and we ate like kings. Best value meal we've had for ages.
Bottom line - this is the ONLY place we'll go to for Thai from now on. If you're in Glenelg, definitely pay this place a visit.

The food was fantastic, and the service was great. The food arrived promptly and the staff were lovely. It is only a small area, so I can imagine it gets quite loud when busy, but on this experience I couldn't fault it.

Dirty glasses. When we were brought a clean glass the waiter poured the wine from the dirty glass into the new glass. Upon our commenting the manager returned and said he 'guaranteed that the spot was not food and was the flowers F from the table' (the glasses had not been on the table). The manager then said he would not replace the cross contaminated glass or provide a new bottle. For the rest of the evening we received nothing but rude comments and glares. Highly unprofessional. Would not recommend.

Phuket Thai has an authentic Thai feel, with very tasty menu options. During the latest visit I enjoyed the duck curry. The decor is simple and neat, however for me some tables seem a bit too close together so that conversations can be overhead. Service is excellent, with staff very attentive to customer needs and having a reasonably good understanding of Gluten Free requirements. Identification of 'GF' items on the menu would be helpful.

This isn't the best Thai food I've ever had, however, I still enjoyed eating here. Phuket Thai is very clean and the waitresses are friendly and welcoming. The food was served in a reasonable amount of time, although there didn't seem to be enough of it. I was surprised when I received the bill at the end of a short evening for such a large amount, especially since I still felt hungry. Would I eat here again...probably not. I've been to every Thai restaurant in Glenelg & Brighton and this is not amongst my favourites. However, I would recommend giving it a try! Maybe I just had an unlucky visit.

We dine here regularly and have for years. Delicious and perfect every time. A few of our favourites are the pandan chicken, spring rolls, mixed seafood salad, Tom Kar Gai, red beef curry and the yellow chicken curry. We've tried many other dishes, and haven't been disappointed yet.

Can't believe how good this is. Red beef curry and green chicken curry are phenomenal. I have never had bad service here, but some nights are very busy and a little patience goes a long way. No wonder it's busy, everyone I know who likes Thai food loves this place.

Green curry chicken. Hot, spicy and delicious.

Ordered take away. Said it .... Ordered take away.
Said it would take 25mins (pretty long wait for phud thai & boiled rice@ a thai restaurant).
I arrived 25 mins after the phone order & was told to wait 10 more mins. Also I was made to feel invisible when I was seeking service upon arrival the first time & when I returned from my additional 10minute wait.
High price, bad service, this Glenelg resident won't be returning.

Beautiful fresh Thai food, good atmosphere and friendly staff. Recommend the Seafood Drunken Noodles, which have fresh/thick rice noodles and great flavours. However, while the food is lovely, you can't help but feeling overcharged... Fine dining prices for a quaint Asian cafe.

Well lets start with I have been a customer for 20 plus years, the food has always been good traditionally but I needed to leave this review tonight as I am bitterly disappointed with the meal and the price of my bill has risen 20%. Firstly the musman curry is sensational as always, this is where the meal then failed to achieve, the basil chicken was almost vegetarian with no meat in the dish and no balance of flavours. There was no heat a massive over dose of salt and no basil. The Pud Thai was simply noodles and sauce, 1 prawn and no chicken so to speak, sweetness was off the scale and there was no other blended flavour, boring..... Lift your game guys, we will steer clear for 6 months and then you get 1 last chance.........

So the upstairs setting is not perfect but but good conversation with friends distracts from the ugly roof top view. We were served promptly the food amazing - green chicken curry was authentic Thai and the best we have had in Adelaide - the beef and basil delicious I liked the drunken noodle seafood but it was not the table favourite. We would go back but this time book in advance to get a downstairs table.

Overcharged. Went to Phuket Thai after reading positive reviews. Had an upstairs window view over Jetty Road. Although you're looking over the top of the front verandah. Service was good and so was the food. However I just checked my credit card receipt a couple of weeks later. I remember the charge for 2 mains and a couple of drinks was $50.80. However I was charged $61.80!!!! Could it be a typo when the waitress processed my card? Or did she deliberately up the price hoping I wouldn't check it? Always check the machine before accepting the charge. Not happy!!

Our first Thai experience in adelaide and we were very impressed. Staff we're very friendly and attentive. Had 3 kids and were very accommodating. Meals were large and very very tasty. We had pandan chicken for entree which was delicious and beef mussaman, Penang curry and Stir Fried Pork - all we're very tasty and generous in size. Would recommend to anyone

As good as it gets. I've read some of the review on here and I don't know what restaurant they have been too!
The Phuket is awesome, some of the finest Thai food you will find, excellent service from the family staff and great prices.
The number of people I have taken there who claim their Spring Rolls to be the best they have eaten is amazing. The mixed entree is sensational, great flavours and a lovely mix to get started. My personal favorite is the Red Beef Curry, I love it. A close second for me is the Pad Thai, best in the Bay!
Recently renovated, the atmosphere I'd great and the food even better, seriously, you MUST try the Phuket.

Shame this Place Doesn't Live Up To It's Reputation. Every time we passed this restaurant there was a good number of patron inside! A good indicator of quality I thought. The service is attentive, polite and friendly. I was told to go here for the best Green Curry Chicken in Adelaide. I was very disappointed with the quality and the amount of serving. The flavour was OK but served in a non creamy coconut-base sauce. The chicken pieces were stringy and inconsistent in portion size.
Other traditional ingredients such as vegetables, bamboo shoots and basil were minimal. Since when has a good Green Curry Chicken had peas in it?
Presentation of the dish was good mainly due to the serving dishes. I also ordered the fish-cakes for entrée. Don't bother trying this entrée as I have eaten better patties from bain-maries in food halls at half the price. This dish was over priced for what we received.
I won't be going back to this restaurant again.
Geoff
The food is quite good but the service was so slow as to be a joke. We waited over an hour for 2 of the dishes for a party of 11. If it was a busy night perhaps excusable but restaurant was only a 1/3 full

One of the best Thai restaurants in Adelaide. Food consistently delicious, especially the hot and sour beef and the green peppercorn beef. Service is great, really polite and friendly. Decor is dated but still manages to have a lovely atmosphere.
Mmm
Wouldnt rush back!. Service was temperamental.... fast and then lacking and then fast again! Food came out at different times and therefore mine was cold by the time my partner received his... my side of greens didnt arrive either.

Food was tasty but not the best by any means.

Spring rolls, they charge for four pieces when in fact you get two cut in half also.

Saves the day. My family and I have lived at glenelg for years and only came here last week. The food was yum mm.... Salmon choo chee and the duck curry were sensational! Finally I have found a great Thai restaurant in the area. Yahoo

Nice surprise. Very small, not flash looking...we actually only went in because it looked busy. BUT what a nice surprise, the food was excellent, really nice spices and a good tang to the hot meals. The prices were very reasonable especially considering the size of the meals and the service was reasonable considering the number of people in the restaurant. Will definately be going back again.

Good food!. If you can see past the VERY tired decor, the stained
menus and the fact that you may as well be sitting on a communal table the way the tables are so tighly packed in, the food is GREAT! Good authentic Thai flavours,no sickly sweet sauces here. The sticky rice desert is to die for! Having said all that, i'm not sure i would return here
simply because the decor and ambience that it creates is a real put off.
Raphio
Baramundi not good, other items enjoyed. One can always come here & enjoy the good food.Seven out of ten.
Amitesh
Reasonably good food, friendly service. However the choice of drink was not availabe the day we went.. Try the barramundi which was fresh and spicy..might go there again..I will rate it 6.5 out of 10..

This place is gold! We go there all the time because the meals are consistently fantastic. I have tried most of the firms on the menu, recommend the Moreton Bay Bugs, Red Beef Curry (best in Adelaide), Yum Duck Salad, Cold Rolls and Pandan Chicken. But you shouldn't be disapponted with any of the dishes. Service is also a grade, you always feel welcome. Gab and Joel

Phuket Thai is one of the few Thai restaurants that I haven’t been to, however, it was comforting to see a TV personality and a few friends dining at the establishment during my first visit. The menu is extensive and authentic with all your traditional Thai favourites.
