Review Simply Sushi - Glenelg

Elizabeth Dwyer
My husband and I look forward to eating here every time we visit Glenelg. Delicious and fresh sushi made right in front of you. I order off the menu to ensure my items are gluten free and they prepare it fresh and safe for me to eat. I feel well looked after. Can only rave about simply sushi!

It is a fun and vibrant atmosphere. The staff are friendly and helpful and always smiling. The food is so fresh and delicious. Found my new favourite sushi place. Definitely my weekly treat.

There are quite a lot of choices, variety of foods. Sushi is fresh and delicious, but cooked lunch is so little, not worth for money. I am happy to come back another time to enjoy the sushi train.

The selection of sushi on the train was limited and not very appealing. It was only fresh if the chef made it on the spot. I had requested fresh edamame but the lady just took a plate of edamame from the train and microwaved it. 🙄 The edamame was definitely not fresh and the skin was thick and the beans were hard. We had a 20min so wait for food ordered from the menu but we were advised of the wait time beforehand which was a nice courtesy. The curry I had tasted nice and my partner enjoyed his terriyaki chicken don.

I didn't enjoy the food. The menus weren't clean and neither were the countertops. Management needs to improve. Such a shame, as they used to be really good a few years ago. Not sure what happened. But I won't be coming back.

My absolute favourite sushi place. Great tasting food and friendly staff. Right near the cinema too. Highly recommend.

Always lovely staff, chefs are friendly and always happy to make dishes on demand. Have eaten here regularly for over 6 years and never had a negative experience.

i usually love simply sushi but the last couple times it seems more dirty like the counters and the menus.

Popped in before an event. Nice range of sushi, particularly enjoyed the mini fried dim sim. Valued the quiet atmosphere where we could talk and easily listen. Plenty of staff that were friendly and attentive.

Fresh, fast and flavoursome Sushi from the train. Especially good if your flying out with little time to spare and you know the quality of Adelaide airport food is not so great. A must try if Sushi is a favourite food and quality nutrition is important to you.

Have been a regular customer here for years and loved the sushi here until yesterday. My family and I decided to have lunch here as it was always good. From the very first bite something was not right. The rice which is usually delicious tasted weird and strangely most of the items had the aftertaste of pickled ginger (which I hate). We ordered some of our usual favourites fresh as we couldn’t see them on the train including my favourite the dragon roll. When we were served the dragon roll my first bite told me something was seriously wrong. It tasted so badly of pickled ginger that I couldn’t finish the first piece and other ingredients didn’t taste fresh. Prawn was soggy that was usually crispy and fresh. I left the half eaten piece and the rest of the roll uneaten and struggled with a lot of the other pieces as well as they tasted weird. As I said I’ve been a regular customer for years and had never had a complaint. I told the waitress about the dragon roll when I approached the cash register to pay and ended up having her argue with me constantly implying that it was just me as all the ingredients were “fresh”. Every time I stated that the roll still didn’t taste right and I couldn’t eat it I was given the same rude response that no all ingredients were fresh and there was nothing wrong with any of the sushi. She then proceeded to charge me for the inedible uneaten dragon roll and when I questioned her that we shouldn’t really have to pay for that she said sorry I’ve already put it through. I once again stated it was inedible and she STILL gave me the “no all our ingredients are fresh and nothing wrong” even as I was walking out the door! So much for customer service! Never going here again.

Great simple sushi at its best! Chef was great, loved a chat. All in all good place and would happily go back.
Definitely the best sushi establishment in Glenelg. Love the friendly and quick service. We are regulars at simply sushi and so are many of our friends who live around the bay. Love the tempura vegetables, chicken yakitori, omelette nigiri, jetty roll, aburi salmon and tuna nigiri. Would love if they offered ramen in the winter months.

Good sushi, friendly atmosphere ! We had sushi off the conveyor belt and we've specifically ordered the salmon drum, lobster drum and volcano which were absolute yums!

Really good sushi. . I've been here 3 times now, and will returnin. I've eaten sushi in Adelaide at a few places, though mostly in Hong Kong, where there is a Japanese restaurant at almost every corner and the quality there is often very high. This is the first Japanese restaurant in Adelaide that I've been to that is of a similar standard. The sushi selection is broad and imaginative, the sushimi is priced well, as with the bento box. The Japanese staff are humble, helpful and friendly.

First time my son and I had tried a sushi train style restaurant. We loved it! The food was fresh and delicious, the staff friendly, and the surroundings clean, tidy and pleasant to look at. I like the fact that I can just take the amount I want to eat; there is no waste. I think this is my new favourite place to eat.

Sushi train knock off. Liked the addition of a bento box. Pitty it was flavourless and not enjoyable.

Best sushi train in Adelaide. This is our favourite Japanese place in Adelaide, the food is always delicious, - especially the tuna sashimi & soft-shell crab, and the staff are great and always look after us like VIP's... The best choice for a casual meal with superb quality Japanese food. - At a reasonable price!

Pretty decent!. When we went there, there were few sushi left on the conveyer belt. So we ordered a few items from the chef which was a good thing because they were made fresh. The unagi sushi and tempura udon were tasty, the rest was okay. It's a pretty decent place. Had better sushi elsewhere.

No other quiet like simply sushi. I lived in adelaide for 17 years and have tried just about every sushi restaurant but I'd back at simply sushi.. The food is amazing! The sushi is a lot cleaner and fresher then places like sushi train. The atmosphere is always great and the staff go that extra mile to make sure you are satisfied. Is it as cheap as a $2.50 hand roll in a food court, no, but it isn't expensive. Not much price difference between simply sushi and sushi train (which is a country wide franchise).
I have moved to brisbane now and left my beloved simply sushi and have been looking for a new sushi restaurant since but nothing compares. If you are in adelaide and love sushi go to simply sushi!

Friendly staff, nice miso soup.
Overall I'd go back, just not in a hurry

Did we all go to the same restaurant? Dined here on a Monday night, food was ordinary, poor quality meat and overpriced. The menu selection is limited and unadventurous. Sushi train in Grenfell street is a much better choice if you want a quick, tasty and cheap Japanese meal.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I would eat here every night if I could. Great, fresh, delicious food and lovely staff!

What can I say? I ADORE this place. It's one of my favourite places to eat at. The food is always delicious, and has an option of hot food aswell (which is made fresh). The staff are always nothing but friendly. The chefs prepare the sushi in the middle of the train so you can watch them prepare the food which is cool. They can make you anything on the menu, fresh. It's also pretty cheap considering a lot comes on each plate. Nice location and nice and cosy inside. I highly recommend it.

Yum which is affordable. Decent sushi beyond the usual food-court fare which is tasty and affordable.

Love it. Food is always good and staff are always friendly and helpful without exception.

I'd rather be at Simply Sushi.... My favourite casual sushi in Adelaide. The food here is beautifully fresh and the chefs and wait staff are always friendly and welcoming.

Also, I can never go past a "Snow Mountain" one of the most simultaneously daggy and delicious desserts around.

A good, steady, reliable, friendly, established and well run sushi joint with many regulars and repeat customers.

Getting Some Training In!!. A good sushi train always puts me in the right mood, especially on a gorgeous weekend so it made sense to pop in last weekend after a wander around the bay for a bite to eat.
There are always lots of spots available for a lunch time munch unlike many of the city trains which get awfully congested around the midday peak hour. The sushi options aren't super adventurous but at least the plates are pretty reasonable with plates starting at $2.50 to the highly avoided white plates at $5.00 (I'm cheap ok?).
The sushi is fresh and the 'boats' I had (egg salad and abalone) were pretty good especially with the house soy sauce. Rolls tend to fall apart pretty easily for some odd reason but it doesn't seem to affect the taste..just the mess they make when trying to scoff them down!
The staff are quick to help and say a loud goodbye when you leave which is always something I've liked about sushi spots, overall the novelty of the train in such a great location makes it a nice place to visit for a light meal down the bay.

Nice menu. The sushi is ok, but the menu items are great - the gyoza, okonomiyaki and tempura were all tasty. The sushi conveyor is always good in that you can pick and choose what you want. Reasonable wine list.
Adelaidefoodcentral
The last sushi plate that I had was the freshest only because it was ordered off the menu and freshly made. The atmosphere was relaxed with low volume Western CD music playing in the background. I feel people pay a premium at these sushi stores just because the sushi plates revolve around the table. People are paying higher prices for the novelty. For me, the place was OK, but nothing to write home about.
