Review The Annex Cafe - Glenelg

Alessa Young
Conveniently located off of Jetty Road and good food. We enjoyed a quiet breakfast on a Sunday morning. We had the sweet potato and zucchini fritters and the eggs benedict with smoked salmon. My only critique would be that the fritters need a binder as they fell apart as when you cut them. The juices were marvelous and large. We had the raspberry mojito (highly recommend) and the green goddess.

Cute cafe with friendly staff, indoor & outdoor dining. Food was just ok, presentation was nice but taste was average. Burger patty was much smaller in diameter compared to burger bun making the bun to patty quite uneven and sloppy to eat. Chips not crispy on outside despite golden & pillowy on the inside. Waffles were more like thick pancake in a waffle shape with confectionary black n gold ice cream. Shame, as is a local cafe for us.

Been in city a few days now, had a few breakfasts in Glenelg. Coffee was well, coffee not bad not fantastic. The meal Eggs Benedict with half a tomato which alone cost $4.90 same as the advocado, should have at least been the whole tomato, eggs were cooked perfectly but drowned in the sau ce. That tasted more of dill. Very expensive for a tomatoe half and far to much sauce, would have been okay if the dill was not there. I am a chef and honestly could have been a better tasting experience. Staff were all very professional. Probably would not get eggs benadict with extras if I ever come back. Sorry if you annoyed by this review Annex it is my professional opinion regarding my dining experience in your cafe and my very first review. Response to the reply. I did not say your coffee was bad or that I disliked it, it just didn't have that oh wow nice cooffee factor, in my opinion. As for the cost, both extras are cleanly marked at $4.90 each on the menu, sorry iI was not aware of the discount, even though $ 2.50 for a tomato is more than fair not less half. What good would it have done to bother a busy staff member in regards to costing. A review is what is given via an experience obtained at the time. I do have pics of the meal and will ppst them as visually! they look good. Instead of replying with what the paying customer has to say in a defensive way. Wouldn't it be more prudent to review all 3 & below reviews and actually lift the bar. After all it is your livelihood. I do not want a refund at all just a more enjoyable breakfast experience . After all $21 is a lot for breakfast then coffee on top, just wanted to have enjoyed spending the $, by the way fresh dill which is available is much better for eggs benadixt than the dried used on mine, much better flavour & can be removed if not wanted however dried sprinkled on top cannot be removed without removing all the sauce. Quite a bland meal good eggs nice avo what I had of a tomato nice, sauce did not taste homemade with dried dill tasted like dill sauce, overpowers the flavour of the hollandaise sauce sad I know. Just my honest professional opinion tis all. Happy cooking Annex.

My partner and I came here for brunch on Easter Monday ! We enjoyed our food and we could tell that the staff were working hard however there were definitely some corners cut ! Possibly due to lack of staff working on the day , which could’ve been easily resolved . My partner was served a large almond milk latte in a milkshake glass which was very odd and the “toast” served with his smashed avocado was under done . Nevertheless, he enjoyed the pesto and thought it was a lovely touch to a classic poached egg . The smoothie bowl I received was delicious however also a bit too runny . Thank you for having us , Happy Easter.

Great food, great coffee. Staff were really friendly and didn’t wait too long for the food. Prices are really really good for what you get. I didn’t eat the Mars slice because I don’t like caramel lol I shouldn’t have ordered it but overall great experience

Had a morning to kill in Glenelg and chose to spend part of it at The Annex Cafe. The menu is very reasonably priced (relative to the other Cafe's in the area) and the staff seem very friendly and welcoming. While, to be honest, the food alone doesn't merit a 5 star rating, the combination of the warm hospitality from the staff, the reasonably priced menu, and the overall homely ambience of the place combined does warrant 5/5 stars. I'd happily come back here again. Some feedback to the owners: Curious that you use salt/pepper satchels, is that a covid thing? Love the book swap idea. I really liked the copper lamps hanging over the large table (I overheard someone discussing plans to paint these white, but I think they look fantastic as is!)

Cute, cosy and off in a side street in always busy Glenelg, it was such a pleasant surprise. Just stopped for coffee, which was good enough to warrant repeat returns, but there were extensive food, cake and pastry options. If you're looking for your "secret hideaway place" this could be it. (Returned today for breakfast and it was perfect. They take serious pride in their coffee too.)

I like that there are tables that are spacious which really suited my reason for catching up with a mate for some map reading lessons. Nice food and coffee and friendly service who are proud in the presentation and food service. Thank you, I enjoyed my visit

The new owner is great, some changes to the menu give real variety to what’s available at other cafes. My lunch was so full of flavour, and was a good sized serve too. This cafe strives to use great quality ingredients, preferably locally sourced. Friendly staff, great food and a great atmosphere. We will be back!

I had the kick start protein salad bowl. It was not how the menu describe it, when I ask to the waitress to do something about it she was rude and unhelpful.

Awesome cafe. Insist on extra shot of coffee in your cup or else it'll taste like the usual weak South Australian coffee. Try the FNG bar, to die for. BTW I'm from NSW.

Friendly staff. Overpriced vanilla chai milk shake which had virtually no flavour. The sweet potato fritters had a sloppy texture & an odd flavour which wasn't awful but wasn't great either, extra star given for the hommus which was fresh & tasty. My partner had waffles which I'd seen that morning being sold in the supermarket at lower cost. Predictable decor & bad music.

Went along this morning to try out their Veg menu. Was so happy to see so many delicious Vegan and Veg options! I had the Super Protein Salad which was nice (could of had a bit more pumpkin). Very excited to return one day for lunch and try the amazing looking veg lasagne... Yum... Lovely little cafe with friendly staff and nice atmosphere.

I have been planning to visit this lovely place for a little while and finally got there today. We had such a lovely experience. Good coffee with super special raw treats and friendly staff what more could you ask for? The Annex is now confirmed on my faves list. I will be back again for sure!! Thank you ox

Great coffee!! Friendly awesome staff. Delicious soul bowl salad. Raw treats for days. I love this place!!
Graham Phillips
The food was excellent and staff were very helpful and friendly
Bridget Retallack
Your vegetarian lasagne is delicious! 100% recommend this great little cafe.
Sandra Carmela
Loved the meals we had in store, but we got some take away raw desserts and they were below average.. inedible (strawberry slice and pecan pie). Thankyou for the nice service though.
Sally Cairns
Love this place! Good quality fresh food and great service.

The bees knees for gluten free delights, excellent coffee and friendly service.

Best coffee, juices and food and very friendly staff/ owners. My favourite place xx
Kerrianne Giddens
Lovely fresh tasty salad....first time i have been here! I will come back again when im in Glenelg.
Jenni Russell
Top place. Top food. Top looking worker. Will deffs be back
Natasha
We ordered both a falafel wrap and salmon bagel, both were bland. Not terrible but not great. We asked for dressing - yoghurt, mayo or anything we could try that could enhance the flavour, we were told they’d speak to the kitchen and we never received it. Coffees were nice. Probably wouldn’t come back.

Service was absolutely poor and as a customer, I was made to feel like I was in debt to the waiters there. Gave this visit a 2.5, only because the food was slightly decent, otherwise I would rate them 0.

Always walk past the cafe In my travels at Glenelg, gave it a go this morning and the food was simple but delicious! Super friendly service and quick!
Limonata&ciabatta
Really good service, friendly and happy to help you. A simple menu but still plenty to choose from and I love snacking which is great here because there are little snacks to choose from as well. The veggie breakfast muffins are amazing, a little pricey but if you want to treat yourself you won't be disappointed! Fresh juices are also delish but I love a good iced latte as well - a dash of syrup never hurt anyone either - and if you're going to go the whole hog why not grab a cake, so many vegan options (even if you're not vegan) and regular options as well. I also recommend you try the lemon shorties, you can't go wrong! I'm working my way through the menu :)
Eat All The Things
Great menu with heaps of delicious, healthy options. Fantastic service, yummy coffee and cakes. The place has a nice community vibe, very friendly. Will be back :)
Brian Cagnet
What a great place to go and have a coffee, dessert and lunch/breakfast. One of my regular places I like to go. All the food is fantastic and most of all the service and atmosphere is fabulous. Smashed avo with eggs and bruschetta is my fave. They have an excellent selection of delicious raw desserts as well as naughty ones. Good kombucha choice to. Keep it up!
Secret Squirrel
Cute little place on side street off jetty road Glenelg. Food was nice and fresh. Dessert was nice too. Coffee was disappointing. I don't know if it was the beans, machine or the barista, but it was burnt coffee. Will try it again but if it tastes burnt or charcoal style then the coffee is has not been made right.
Esther Riggs
Amazing vibe, friendly staff, delicious drinks and food. Second time I've been there and both times they've exceeded expectations. If you're vegan or vegetarian or just like eating a clean meal this is the place to go for catching up with a friend or just grabbing a coffee and raw dessert
Gazeats
The menu is brilliant and price definitely reasonable. My issues were: table not cleared from previous patrons not even when our food was delivered. The salad that my sweet potato patties was served on was very basic, was explained would have salsa but just diced tomatoes- there is a big difference. The worst part of my time here was that my salad was drowned in oil. I had to drain a pool of oil from a lettuce leaf onto the ground, soak up oil from the plate with my napkin and yet still had enough to swim in. So much potential here, need to understand the one percenters to be great.
Adventures In Winterland
I've walked past The Annex Cafe a few times now, but only recently got the chance to stop in and treat myself to one of their beautiful sweets! The small space is made welcoming by wooden furniture and succulents in planters on each table - otherwise there are lovely outdoor seats around the corner. The cake display cabinet is full of dietary-requirement-friendly treats, and it was hard to only pick one. Finally, I chose the lemon and raspberry cake ($7), which is

Very basic food and service. My toast was barely toasted and the eggs were rubbery. Did not enjoy the coffee. Would not recommend this place.
Makayla Walker
Really lovely atmosphere so such good healthy food and clean
Massive tea as well 👌🏻 such a nice place to relax if going to the beach or shopping on jetty road
Christie Sia
Really nice place! Got some nice selections but a little bit expensive, still would very much recommend! My vegan friend enjoyed it as her selections were quite widespread too. Healthy food tasted great here! Want to go back this summer!

What a wonderful little find. I'm sometimes skeptical of places that substitute foods for what's classed as "healthier", or more in vogue, but The Annex has made a fine job of it.

I had a vegetarian lasagne, it was served with a fresh salad with an olive oil with a lovely depth. Lasagne had a cauliflower white sauce that was smooth, vegetabley and very savoury. Matched by nice sweetness coming from the capsicum & big pieces of zucchini. Lovely balance of flavours.

Boyfriend had chicken schniztel Turkish sandwich that he loved.

Tried both the vanilla chai smoothie and the snickers smoothie. Snickers smoothie was thick and made with dates, cacao & cows milk. Flavour was nice and enjoyable. Vanilla chai was made with almond milk which is very thin but had a nice taste.

Very popular little place & now I know why.

Great cafe tucked away in Glenelg. Staff are helpful and pleasant. Defiantly my fav cafe in Glenelg and gets over looked. Small seating but never have trouble getting a seat. They use coffex coffee which is always good. Closed Sunday's during winter which is disappointing.
On The Chopping Board
I had visited The Annex Cafe many times for quick takeaway freshly squeezed juices and raw treats but today I decided I would sit in and try something from the lunch menu. The Annex Cafe is a tiny cafe with indoor and outdoor seating just off Jetty road in Glenelg. They aim to cater for many types of dietary needs including vegetarians, vegans, gluten free and paleo.
Laura
Nice, fresh food but not a lot to choose from and the coffee isn't great. Good for a fresher, grab-and-go lunch but lacking the atmosphere to stay and 'brunch'.
World In A Bite
Healthy meals with Emma & Tom's drinks! .

Shit. Waited an hour and 15 minutes for our food after being told there were no waffles and that they would make us pancakes instead. Meanwhile dozens of customers got their food (some of which were waffles). The worst service I have ever experienced at a small cafe with not much business. 100% would not recommend Due to total ignorance abuse to customers
Chloe.adolphi
Love it. Favourite place to go. Absolutely love going there first thing in the morning for a green goddess juice. Great atmosphere friendly staff and fantastic food! 100% recommend
Two Fat Cullos
We went here with a group of 5 and even though it is a small cafe we easily found a suitable table to fit us all comfortably. Upon arriving we were welcomed warmly and given menu's and told how to order. Whilst sitting waiting for fellow friends I took time to look around the small cafe, the decor is very rustic and it has a very warm, friendly and calm atmosphere, a place you could sit sipping a latte and reading the paper for hours. We tried some of the wraps, the falafel wrap was delicious, the falafels were not dry at all, best I've tried. Another one we tried was the smashed avo bruschetta which was absolutey delicious also, those would be our two recommendations. We also selected 5 of the raw cakes and they were nice enough to cut them up and put them on a platter, this was great because it meant we got to try almost all the display cakes, too hard to pick a favourite but Nutella always goes down a treat! The coffees were well made and loved that the baristas were enjoing showing off their latte art and their lovely relaxed & friendly personalities. Overall we had a really pleasant experience & whenever we are down that way we will definitely pop in again. Prices are very reasonable, staff are friendly & food was great!

Best coffee. Honestly, goodbye pure, goodbye kicco, goodbye zest.. because no other cafe at glenelg can produce a better coffee consistently like the Annex can. I'm a weekday person at glenelg due to working close by, the young lad (owners son) is the best barista in glenelg period. Such an easy going person and can actually take a second to have a laugh, did I mention that he can sure make a damn amazing pour? Don't get me wrong, they have a few other half decent baristas too, but when the young guy is on there is no where else in Adelaide I'd rather be for coffee. 10/10 for him and the Annex, keep him on!

Beautiful food, friendly service. Very nice atmosphere, I love the retro nik naks.
Being just off the main road, about 20 footsteps, gives me a peaceful break from the hustle and bustle of the bay shopping precinct.

The Annex is such a mellowed out place to have coffee or brunch. The food is lovely, the staff are lovely. The coffee is great! I recommend this little place to everyone. It's a great place away from busy Jetty Rd.
Dave
Very cool place. If you love great tasting food, great coffee and some awesome juices give it a whirl. My fav is the smashed avo and eggs and it is amazing. The ice filter coffee is really nice also. I've been a daily regular for a year now and it's always amazing. Great service and friendly staff.
Foodlover
Totally disagree with Redbull. In there today, and yes food took a few mins to come out, but not an hour, and to be fair they were packed! Food looked and tasted amazing, had the smashed avo bruchetta and green goddess juice and both were great.
Redbull
This place is a joke. An hour to produce 4 bits of toast and "poached" eggs.
In edible when they finally arrived.
Rubbish.
Foody61
You've got to try their 'Green Goddess' fresh juice & 'smashed avo bruschetta with goats cheese'! Great vintage style cafe & could sit there for hours drinking veneziano coffee!
Dorumon16
NOOO. Bring the old owners back - horrible coffee, presentation and taste of food is very bad. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Kimmy Flavs
Love it. The best coffee I've ever had (seriously) and the food is always light and delicious. The décor makes the place very relaxing and the service is fantastic. Highly recommend.
Jen
Yummy cute cafe. Interesting decor, love the querky use of jars and little milk bottles. We had the gritz hash brown and waffles and loved it. Different but delicious.

What will they do An-next?. The Annex cafe is my new favourite place to have coffee. I'm not sure whether it's their great baristas or their choice of coffee beans, but their coffee always tastes great. Very vegan friendly; another great place that offers more than just soy milk. The menu is small but always changing and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Located in a great spot.
Seaside Diner
Great coffee and amazing selection of treats. Great atmosphere.....love it. Quirky little cafe in side street
Hyenass
Different Menu. Tried to revisit twice after my first visit to try on the gritz. However only cabinet food is served and did not see the old menu again. Did they changed the menu or the menu is different on Sunday?
Victoria
My favorite place to go for lunch in Adelaide. The coffee is outstanding and the cakes are to die for. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend giving this place a visit
Jelly
This place is awesome. Not only can they cater for vegan + gluten free but they do it very tasty!
Alexwatson
Lovely coffee, sweet treats (including vegan!) & plenty of space for a big dog to relax. Will definitely be coming back soon.
Undergroundbole
My local. A great independent café with a strong focus on coffee, tea, home-made dessert and atmosphere. Definitely my favourite local spot

Expected a bit more. Good coffee food was okay
Ruby
Vegan Options. I was really excited to finally visit, but was a bit disappointed that the only vegan option available at breakfast time was a wrap or soup... The coffee was nice...
Shedges
Wanted gritz, only had the cabinet available on a Grizzly Sunday morning

Winter Redemption. I'm SO not a winter person, but some of the true delights of the colder weather are my experiences at The Annex.

The coffee is the best in Glenelg, and the food makes me healthier with every meal! Seriously, today... Caramelised Beetroot soup?! Call me a skeptic before I tried it, and now I want the recipe! Breathtaking!

Excellent service, and a unique experience with every visit thanks to the ever changing decor.

Love this joint all year round, but especially in winter!

Get on it!
Adamski
Healthy, fresh and very cool. Older people, groups of teenagers and everyone inbetween! I was surprised to see the variety of people spending their hard earned dish in this little cracker of a cafe. Great coffee and juices, but the food is imaginative, fresh and healthy. Combinations of ingredients are interesting and well balanced and so much more than the sum of their parts. If you're in Glenelg and looking for breakfast or lunch that's a bit more interesting give this place a try.

Suroundings are clean, comfortable and drizzled with interesting objects, ingredients and art. be sure to check out the mural on the outside walk round the corner. Watch out though its small and pretty busy.

Great little cafe. We stumbled on this place and absolutely loved it - the fit out of the space works well, the menu is varied, the service was excellent even though they were very busy and the food and coffee were great - highly recommended!
Ashleigh Ignatowicz
What a great little find! We were warmly greeted in this cosy yet funky cafe, served delicious, fresh and healthy food and great coffee. Very glad we stumbled upon this little gem :)
Tom Chard
Fresh, delicious and affordable. Great portion sizes and fantastic coffee!
Coco
Absolutely delicious breakfast and coffee! As I am allergic to eggs The Annex was an absolute treat with their vegan delicacies! We had the scrambled hash with almond pesto toast and it was beautiful. The coffee was perfect too! Will definitely go back!!

Amazing Veg Breaky and we're not even Vegies. My Carnivore-only Hubby rav's about it. Now that is really saying something.

They don't have a lot on the menu to choose from but what they do, they do very well. Don't let limited choice put you off as you'll be missing out on a real gem of Adelaide

Highly recommend - scrambled eggs with salmon and whatever horseradish cream, beautiful rye bread.

Intoxicating! I want it again!
Rosie
Always great!. I have never had a bad experience at The Annex. The cafe itself is beautifully decorated and the menu is always different besides a few favourites that seem to always be on there. The food is always delicious and the prices are good too. They have become a little more expensive recently but not by enough to complain about. Heaps of vegan options and the coffee is amazing. Staff are always friendly too :)
Jimmy Gus
Really great coffee
Fox
Yummo & Guilt Free!. It is so hard to find really honest healthy food these days with so many places claiming their food is healthy but really may not be. This little cafe has a variety of delishes breakfasts and lunches with something for everyone. I only drink almond milk and when I saw they had it for my coffee I was sold! The Chickpea burger really is delish! and even though I was absolutely stuffed, I couldn't resist trying something from their selection of sweets. A cute cosy little place, with friendly staff, suitable for vegans, vegetarians and those who need a break from the meat- I will definitley be back!
Eleanor
Yum!. So great to see another little vegetarian place pop up in Adelaide!
Really tasty soup, delicious hot chocolate (with a good choice of milks - I had almond - what a treat!) and good prices. Definitely try it out if you're in the area.
Marc
You have to try the veggie burger and the grilled focaccia. Amazing! Nice surroundings and friendly staff.

The Annex Cafe is located on Waterloo Street, a side street just off Jetty Road. At first glance, this quaint little cafe seems fairly similar to all the other cafes in the area, but the constant flow of customers suggests they’re doing something right. While this place is well known for their great coffee, I was here for a bite to eat. They have a small basic breakfast menu, some lunch options in the form of wraps and rolls, and a selection of sweets.

Want something light and healthy to eat whilst you're down at the beach? Well look no further than this little cafe. This cafe is tucked inside a side street, away from the busy Jetty Road. It is not hard to find, right next to a beauty shop.
On The Chopping Board
Hidden away from the confusion of Jetty Rd, just down Warterloo St is where you'll find the unobtrusive, humble and welcoming cafe front of The Annex Cafe. This place has been on my list of places to eat at for a while and I'm constantly reminded of it when I see well composed photos of their food in my Facebook feed . Once inside, it was like being taken back to my family dinners where the TV was off, no magazines were allowed at the table and we were encouraged to talk about our day. The Annex isn't dissimilar. Tables of customers interact with each other while the staff casually take orders, deliver meals and join in the conversation. I was late to lunch and due to food being made at the beginning of the day it meant I had the option of a strawberry bagel (sounds delicious but isn't vegan) or a pumpkin and roasted almond soup.
