Review Pride Of India - Glenelg

Andrew Harrold
My Daughter and I come here frequently and have always had good service and really good food. My daughter (8yr) has requested we dine here tonight as when we tried another Indian close by she was disappointed. Pride of India is our favourite. Thank you

Excellent food and friendly service. Sides such as chutney cost a small amount extra, but are clearly visible on the menu. The heat of each dish is listed next to it on the menu, with several choices available for each heat rating. Prices are very good given the prime location. The entrance is hiding down a side street and has a flight of stairs, so it's not wheelchair accessible.

Went to Pride of India over the weekend. If you werent looking up you would certainly miss the restaurant as its upstairs with the staircase down the side street, could do with better signage. Upon entering we were given a table and menus but then waited a while to be asked for drinks. Finally our order was taken. My husband ordered the Vindaloo and I ordered the Tikka Masala. I am a bit of a indian critic but the food tasted beautiful, couldnt fault it. The staff were very friendly and checked in a couple of times to make sure we were enjoying the food. I think this indian place just became my favourite indian restaurant in the South.

Ordered delivery at 7pm on a Saturday and it didn't arrive until 9.30pm!!!! They said on the phone it would be an hour, and it was only after i called back three times that they 'prioritised" my meal. And then when it arrived the order was wrong, and the food was terrible. There was no garlic naan(as ordered) or Mango chutney, and the Vindaloo was so tough that i couldn't eat it. My previous 2 experiences had been good, but I am really disappointed that wasted $60 on truely crap food and crap service. I do not know how they expect to stay in business. Also thier website has no email address to recieve mail (otherwise i would have sent this to them). Calling had no effect.

1 hour and 20 mins to get our meal and then when we did. our Large butter chickens had 4 small pieces of chicken floatibg amongst the sauce. never again

I ordered Papadoms for starters and expected to receive the standard 'accessories' (mint chutney, sweet mango chutney, choppied onions, etc) but this didnt arrive and the papadoms were clearly bought in a packet. Finally managed to get the chutneys etc but had to explain exactly what i meant. Admittedly this was my first curry since moving here from the UK so maybe things are different here. I then ordered a Lamb Madras. When this was arrived I was disappointed. It was very mild, far more mild then would be expetced. Finally the Peshwari nan was also poor - hardly tasted of coconut and there were about 2 sultanas in it. All in all it was cheap but I was disappointed in the quality of service, and most importantly the quality of the food. Please find me a good curry house in Adelaide!!!!

The food was delicious however it was difficult to communicate with the waiters and my food arrived much later than everyone else's. They catered well to a large group.
Alex
Took 8 hours for my food to arrive and the butter chicken tasted awful too.

Service was absolutely terrible! No organisational skills and struggled to even take orders, let alone bring them out correctly! On top of that service was very slow, we left after the entree!
Tony Gibb
Worst entree we've had. Didnt stay for mains. Service was poor

We enjoyed the banquet tonight and the food was amazing! Fantastic flavour and so many options, will definitely be back. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Thank you!

Went back twice and it was great service and awesome food at a decent price. Had a beef vindaloo washed down with a Kingfisher!
Jonathan Hutchings
Fantastic food and amazing service. Seriously worth trying if you like Indian food.

Beautiful food. Even better service. The chef even took my son to see the kitchen. He was wrapped. Will definately go back. The incredible service hasn't changed in years. The location is a hard one to access especially for the mobility impaired. Unfortunately that comes with many of the upstairs resteraunts in Glenelg.

Their curries are great. Will go there again and again

Always had a good experience here and never had a bad dish :)

Good service. Decent food. Vindaloo could have been hotter.

Found a 3 hairs in takeaway, rang to complain, got told all kitchen staff wear hair nets and it was impossible that I found any in my food. Never going back. Patronage lost forever

Never had anything but good service here, staff are super friendly and the food is quite nice. it's tasty and fresh but I'm someone who prefers chicken breast in a dish so Asian cuisines can be a little hard to completely fall in love with at times. But if you don't care about that then yes this is for you!

Cannot fault the food. Have been here a number of times and it's always amazing. Staff are always friendly, and $2 corkage per person for BYO makes it a very reasonable priced night out eating one of my favourite cuisines.

Don't go ever. One of the lamest restaurant I have ever been...crap food and ambience. Don't take a chance to ruin your evening.

Don't let the dated decor and thread-bare carpet put you off; family & I shared butter chicken, mango chicken, lamb rogan josh and beef masala. Two servings of rice, pappadums and plain + garlic naan..... YUM!! The waitresses were okay but the food was GREAT!

Worst Restaurant Ever. Do not go. Service for our entree took 1 1/2hrs.

First time to Pride of India and I wasn't sure what to expect. The decor was very dated and no Indian influence at all! There was an Eiffel Tower clock, old Christmas decorations and a party lights. We were seated and offered drinks immediately. We then ordered entrees, they came out quickly, however one of the dishes was cold. We still left our plates clean as it was too delicious
not to eat and we were hungry. Next up was mains, chicken vindaloo, beef bhasla, roti and rice. All were amazing!!! This is now one of my favourite Indian restaurants!!! Service was good and food was superb.

As UK ex pats we should have learnt by now not to expect uk standard of Indian food in Australia but fancying a curry the other night in Glenelg we tried here. We were the only table in at about 7pm (alarm bells should probably have rung) but we figured at least the service should therefore be good. Not so. Waited a good 15 mins after ordering 2 bottles of beer before they arrived. Food was ok but a tad bland & unfortunately the standard "tomato soup" sauce with hardly any flavour which is all we seem to be able to find out here (man I miss a good Balti!)

I organised a dinner on the 22nd March 2013 at 8 PM for 20 people. I was very much impressed with the food which my guests really enjoyed in an elegant environment. In addition, customer service was excellent. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone who is looking for quality food and excellent customer service. Saa

The food was lack of flavour, the ambience was tacky, overpriced, service? There was no service. No wonder why there were only 3tables include us. This place was a huge mistake. I wont return ever again.

The food Is pathetic , the authenticity is just not there , the veg biriyani was full of potatoes , and the ambience Is very poor , still the food is a lot to be desired . Not at all recommended ! Very poor and and not worth at all ):

This was my second time eating Indian food, and I continue to love it. The vegetarian options are great and if you want mild - that is what you get. The prices are pretty good, the service was lovely and I enjoyed the whole experience. I have a feeling hardcore Indian food lovers might find it lacking, but not me! I would for sure go again.

March to Pride of India. On our trip from Sydney to Adelaide We were looking for a specific Indian restaurant but couldn't find it, so decided to try this one instead. What an experience!

While maybe a little more expensive, this food was clearly the best Indian I have ever had. My wife and childen were blown away.

Anyone looking for an absolutely delicious meal with the best service I have experienced for quite a while, give them a try. You won't be sorry

Pride Of India. We found the food fantastic, of great quality. The seekh kababs, fish pakoras and the mixed pakoras were just the starters to a perfect dining experience! Loved the Beef Madras and the Chicken Tikka Masala!! Best Naans and Baturas I have had in Adelaide. ooh and the Gulab Jamuns just melted in our mouths!! An elegant place to dine in or the perfect place to do a take away!
Uncle Jesse
Only if youre desperate. Have dined here a few times and found the food very ordinary. Currys lack any real flavour and heat, also found the service very poor.

I recommend to my friends, but if you’re REALLY hankering Indian and you’re in Glenelg (and you have no allergies)… then give it a go. I would love to hear from some people that live in the Glenelg area (or anyone that knows of any) better Indian places in Glenelg that we can give a try :)

As curry usually keeps everyone happy we headed down the road to the Pride of India to try our luck. We were lucky, in that they could accommodate six – taking the restaurant to approximately half full. Frankly, that’s about where the luck ran out …
