Review Tanapa Thai - Glenelg

We ordered $70 takeaway, and these are what we get. Food there are obviously overpriced and awful. The worst ‘Thai restaurant’ we have seen. The Tom yum soup is just water and veges no flavour at all. Would give 0 star if we could!

Poor service- I was waiting at the counter for several minutes when there was noone else in the restaurant. Even when someone spotted me they finished their conversation, said hello, then turned back around to chat to someone in the kitchen again. Nice tasting but very very small portion for $16 dollars. Save your money and go somewhere who values you as a paying customer.

Definitely the worst Thai restaurant ever! I ordered green curry with chicken and coconut rice, then ended up feeling like chewing sawdust. Needless to mention the poor tiny portion of rice with no coconut taste at all: which even costed an additional $6. Do NOT waste your money here. Grab some instant food from the nearby Coles, find a microwave, and your dinner would taste far nicer.

It actually makes me a bit sad to have to write this review as I've been a big fan of this restaurant for a couple years, regularly going with a couple friends. The last few times however have not been so great and today we didn't even stay to be served. After sitting and waiting about 15 minutes we stood up to order at the counter. An elderly gentleman who has given bad service on our most recent visits was pouring himself alcohol to drink all the while a couple tables were waiting for service before us(which we found out soon after). One of our group went up to order and was told he'd get to us when he could. He then continues to drink and comes up to us to say in a rude tone of voice that 'others were there before us so we'd have to wait'. This wasn't the problem as we understand they need to serve in order of arrival. What was a problem was his agressive manner and drinking on the job while other tables were waiting before us. We'd have similar experiences in our recent visits but today was more than we were willing to deal with and we left. I wouldn't go back while this man is serving. We used to have wonderful service from great waters and waitresses but ever since this man took a large role out front the mood of the restaurant has dropped significantly. We enjoyed the food but it's hard to enjoy food after being talked to so rudely by someone who is drinking on the job and only gotten to you after 20-25 minutes of waiting when the restaurant is not even half full.

Ordered two main meals and a rice tonight through an app. Food arrived cold - I noticed on the app that it was more than 30 minutes between placing the order and when the order was being delivered so maybe that was on the delivery driver. However, very small portion sizes - just a small amount of meat with some vegies thrown in and the majority of each meal was sauce so the meals looked more like soups than the curry and stir fry that we ordered. The taste wasn't bad, but not great either - I think I cook the same meals at home and they taste much nicer. Very disappointing meals - we were still very hungry once we had eaten them - and they are very over priced. I won't be ordering from here again.

Curry was flavourless and the meat had obviously been cooked separately from the sauce, which was watery. Pad Thai was gluey and flavourless. Really disappointed as I've enjoyed meals there before. Don't know what happened but I won't be returning.

I have been coming here every week since Nop and her husband took over the restaurant and the food is like none other that I've ever tasted here in Adelaide. It is so authentic, flavoursome and fresh. When I was pregnant I came here 4 times per/week it is so good. They have a basic interior design but don't let that fool you, the service is fast and most of all the food is outstanding and at a very reasonable price for being in the heart of Glenelg. Lunch menu is value for money too, I will keep coming back!

Tasty food. I tried the chicken red curry. But, as they do not serve halal chicken, so I just tasted the vegetables. I wish they could serve halal meat and thus could catch a wide range of customers. The place is not usually crowded. The interior is good. Free Parking is available nearby. If you are lucky, you will get parking right in front of the restaurant.

First time visitors. Not welcoming at all, ladies toilet filthy, terrible customer service - meals for 6 were staggered AND 1 forgotten completely with no remorse shown by owner.(luckily not added to the bill) Food was ok but small portions. Not the cheapest option at the Bay either. First & last time sadly. �

Poor service. Had to wait 40 minutes for entrée. Luke warm food. Sent it back. No taste. They were more interested in taking orders for takeaway. Owner not interested in what we had to say. Never going back.�

Addicted to seafood laksa. Just have to try any in the area where ever I go. The most expensive and the worst I've tried in a long time. Took over 30 mins. Don't waste your money or time!!!

Best Thai food in Adelaide � always fantastic.

Three drivers: Value for money, Consistency, and Community I like Tanana Thailand for a few different reasons, though primarily value for money. When traveling around Australia I have encountered and experienced many similar eating establishments and all with a similar outcome, I get fed but it wasn't memorable. After sitting and eating at Tanapa I felt very contented. The second reason I would revisit Tanapa is the consistent quality of the food between dishes and courses. This was especially evident as the friends I dined with made comment to the nature of everything 'looked good'. My third reason for returning time and again will probably be the staff willingness to connect engage in local banter. Staff no matter their cultural heritage or background seem to acknowledge and promote other businesses in their local area like the community is as important to them as their own company. Even though they made us our after dinner coffee and cakes, they talked about other coffee shops where differing styles of cuisine could be found.

Ordered $15 prawn noodles, got 3 prawns.... Tasty meal but stingy on the main ingredient!

Fantastic lunch today. Gt half way through and ordered takeaway to take with us. Awesome food, fantastic chef.

The food is fresh & delicious. The service is friendly. A Ma & Pa restaurant worthy of a great review. <br/>My only complaint/ suggestions are that it is expensive. I guess you get what you pay for as it is really good. Especially if it's the owner cooking! <br/>However, for example; The vegetarian eggplant dish is the same price as the non vegetarian version, yet same quantity as eggplant in both dishes.. I feel if your vegetarian you shouldn't be paying as much as if you were having meat or seafood in your food. Also, if the curry pastes are homemade, can't you just omit the shrimp paste and substitute for a vegetarian option to make the curries on the vegetarian menu, actually vegetarian? <br/>It would be nice to also see what is, or can be made vegan on the menu as well. <br/>Lastly, please keep making those crispy cup thingys! (In vegetarian too) 👍🏻😊<br/><br/>

I've only dined in once but the service was great then, we usually grab takeaway which is always ready super quick 15 minutes or so. Once I get onto a good thing it's hard for me to change it up so I haven't tried a whole lot but everything I've had has been delicious. It's fresh, clean and tasty food, the fried rice is one of the best I've had and we usually pair it with a couple of stir-fry dishes, I love that they use breast meat for chicken dishes as well, pretty rare to find so huge props for that!

I love this place! The food is always delicious and fresh. The service is good, albeit a couple of wrong orders arrived due to a miscommunication because of the noise of the restaurant.

Yum! Delicious! I really rate this place highly. The service is outstanding! The staff are very attentive, welcoming and friendly. Most importantly, the food is authentic! Actually, it makes my mouth water just thinking about it! Definitely worth a visit.

Delicious food across the board. I dined here today and they were able to to cater for some of the allergies that some of our group had. They do mention that they do different levels of chili in their food. We picked "HOT" where we were told that "perspiration" was a certainty. Well, not very hot at all. They are happy to provide additional chili for you to add to your dishes to gain your desired spice. <br/><br/>Massaman lamb was delicious and the pad Thai was also nice. Every dish was fresh and fragrant. I will be back again.

I will definitely be going back. Not one complaint, loved everything we had, especially the Sata Chicken Peanut Sauce.<br/>Service was excellent, reasonably priced.<br/>Will definitely be going back, even if it is for takeaway only.

Choo Chee Chicken Curry. Go for medium hot (not too spicy but a decent kick)

Dissappointed. Served a main containing spoiled and pungent seafood. Not acceptable.

Customer service and coconut rice was dissapointing; Peanut sauce was delicious :) wanted some spring rolls but apparently we werent able to order them :)

Delicious!. Came here for lunch and had the Thai spicy fried rice and drunken noodles. They were very tasty. Will return.

Always enjoy this place-make sure you get the coconut rice to accompany your meals! Delicious.

The food was delicious. The waitresses were elegant and courteous. The old man hiding behind the counter keeping an eye on us was creepy and weird.

Horrible service. Horrible owners. We were treated like second class citizens while we waited for meals which never came. Very disappointing. I would recommend heading to one of the many other Authentic Thai restaurants in Adelaide. Not this shameful place.

The food was fine, but tasted more like thai you could cook at home. Average atmosphere, definitely not cosy with wooden furniture and very loud.

Lovely thai!. This is a lovely spot for great thai. staff are friendly and prompt and the duck curry is devine! unique flavours including apple, lychee and pineapple, it was delicious. a friend said the royal green curry was the best they've ever had but the lemon chicken was overly battered. the menu is extensive with heaps on options to choose from including gluten free options. im certainly keen to go back and try other items, highly recommended!

Wonderful...and very gluten friendly!. With Celiac's Disease, you kind of take what you can get when dining out. So how delighted were we when we found a Thai restaurant with a dedicated Gluten Free menu! Staff were fully educated about the ins & outs, and more so, the food was absolutely delicious! So many choices - all our selections were fab especially the fried rice, and the service was impeccable! Thank you so much Tapana Thai for giving us a dining experience that wasn't just the best we could get, but the best we have had for a long time! Yippee!!!

This is my favourite Thai restaurant. Even more yummy than almost anything i had in Thailand! Particularly if Nop is cooking...The other chef/s that cook there do get it almost right, but when Nop does the cooking, it does taste better - maybe it's the love she adds?!<br/>So, we don't mind one bit making long drive to eat here!Gareth has an extensive knowledge of wines & it's good to see some organic wines on the list.Some favourites of ours off of the menu dare i choose, are.. crispy cups, tom kah gai soup, royal duck salad, basil chicken, roasted duck red curry, royal green curry, and the crispy eggplant... oh my, the crispy eggplant! (can be made vegetarian) I am vegetarian & adapt the meats for tofu or just the veggie version. But even for the kids that just want chicken nuggets, they are also catered for but with actual real chicken. So even the fussiest of eaters or diets can be catered for.<br/>Although there is a lot of vegetarian options or can be made so, it would be good to have more vegan options as well. Including on the wine list.

Tanapa Thai is located close to the centre of the Jetty Street cafe precinct in Glenelg. Like every other Thai place, they offer all your traditional favourites, although the selling point that won me over, were their lunch time specials.
