Review Mockingbird Lounge - Glenelg

Cherie Harvey
Really nice if you like coffee, books & handmade items, all for sale. Lovely old building with multiple small rooms with most walls having bookcases filled with 2nd hand books for sale. Lovely old furniture & crockery, with vases of Australian native posies to sit at & have a coffee &/or something to eat. Quite a small menu & only dark rye bread as an option.

Interesting but only seats free next to the toilets. Coffee OK but cakes very sweet.

My wife and I just thoroughly enjoyed a high tea here for her birthday, it was fantastic. The food is stellar in both appearance and flavour and it is served in a really quirky environment that is exceptionally comforting as well as making you feel like you're getting away with being naughty and eating in library! The staff as 10 out of 10, they're a really friendly and happy bunch here. Would I go back? Hell yes!! Would I reccommend this place to a friend? Hell no! Go and find your own awesome place to eat! All kidding aside, of course I would reccommed it, it's a fabulous place to be.

Wonderful hospitality and service. Our group met at the Mockingbird Lounge weekly over the past few months and have enjoyed the cosy atmosphere and the lovely coffee.

Cute cozy booky little cafe/book/gift shop with private rooms available for book clubs. Great selection of teas served in fine bone china. Limited menu, but good food.

Really lovely peaceful atmosphere with lots of little hidden nooks for you to sit and have a quiet coffee and a read. Amazingly huge fluffy scones and friendly service. Will definitely be back... Again and again.

I often go here with my Mum for lunch. I always get the Rueben. Has never let me down, great ambience and nice staff. Will continue to go forever.

Cute little lounge filled with books and unique handmade treasures. A selection of light meals like quiche, scones and soup makes it the perfect space to catch up with girlfriends.

Mockingbird Lounge is more about the books than the food and what you will get there is a small menu of home cooked options which makes you feel like you are visiting an old friend who wants you to feel welcome in their home. This is not the place to get artisan food or high end presentation but Mockingbird Lounge is not trying to be part of that mix. Rather it is about simple honest food, great customer and service and, well, books.
The Lounge is in a shopfront with what would have once been the residence out the back. There is an outside eating area at the back where there is also a granny flat now converted into a space for book clubbers. Throughout it is decorated with quality second hand furniture and there are plenty of tables, chairs and lounge chairs where you are welcome to sit and enjoy your coffee and read.
The menu is limited to a few straightforward choices - like croissants, scones, home made sausage rolls. These are all well priced and are tasty and simply presented - very much in keeping with the overall theme of the Lounge. There are plenty of tea and coffee choices and the coffee is of a good standard.
As well as the books, there is a huge selection of gifts and quality art and craft; so if you are looking for a place to sit and enjoy a light snack and good coffee while reading or catching up with friends or being part of one of their book clubs, this would be a place to consider.
Summary: friendly customer service with an emphasis on books and book clubs; simple food at reasonable prices; coffee good quality. Easy parking without any time limits in the side streets and there are plenty of shops to browse while on the Broadway at Glenelg. Worth a try? Yes - if you like simple, friendly home-style places, you might like to try Mockingbird Lounge. If you love books, then check it out!

I think owning a bookshop/cafe like the Mocking Bird is the dream of most bookworms. The space is an old house which has been flooded with books. It's super cosy and has a really nice feel about it. I highly recommend heading there to catch up with a good friend for morning or afternoon tea. While your friend is talking, you can sip delicious tea and eat scones with jam and cream. There's also a large selection of games you can use and play for free. It's a place for young and old. A friend of mine takes her children here on rainy days and reads books, plays games and has lunch. She can't speak more highly of the place. There are also some cute, handmade, local gifts on sale, and artwork. You can also join a book club for $10 a month (which includes book hire and a drink)! Joining a book club is a great way to make new friends and expose yourself to literature you may not normally read. Overall, definitely worth a visit if you love books, great customer service and a welcoming atmosphere.

I must admit I was a bit reluctant to eat at the Mockingbird Lounge because from the outside, it didn’t really look like a cafe, but more like a secondhand book store, which is predominantly is. As far as food goes, there are about a dozen options to choose from, many of which are fairly basic.
