Review Bavarian Haus Restaurant & Function Centre - Gold Coast

Really enjoyed the pork schnitzel with chips and slaw, gravy on the side. The apple straddle and icecream, was devine, really worth going there for. The green meadow cocktail was huge and beautifully presented, and was a lovely sip drink with the main meal. The staff were friendly. This is a family restaurant so there are children welcome at this restaurant.

Couldn’t fault a thing! The food was amazing, as was the service. We had both male and female waiters and they were both attentive and lovely. The pork knuckle was to die for! Would highly recommend. We went on a Friday night and there were 6 of us. Food came out very quick.

We had a great experience here. The staff were super friendly and looked after us and our 8 month old baby. We had the chicken schnitzel and the crispy pork knuckle and both were really nice. My only regret is that I didnt get gravy on the schnitzel. Beer on tap was good too! Would definitely recommend.

The food was delicious, with a nice selection of German alcoholic beverages too. Will definitely go back!

Great place for a good winter nosh up. Total comfort food. Meals are large and reasonably priced, great selection of beers also reasonably priced and you can have them in giant size of course. Service was good, staff are friendly and efficient. The pork knuckle in particular was outstanding 👍Oh, and kids eat free! 🙂

Omg..... You have to have the pork knuckle, and nothing else!! It is soooooo filling and yum. Mash and Kraut delish as well ..

An authentic German dining experience with generally excellent food.<br/><br/>Highlights:<br/>• Traditional German Pretzel (MUST TRY)<br/>• Pork Knuckle<br/>• Bratwurst & Debreziner Sausages<br/>• Sauerkraut<br/><br/>Dessert Highlights: <br/>• Apple Strudel<br/><br/>Cons:<br/>The extremely limited vegetable options contributed to a rather meat-heavy meal that did not offer a particularly palette-cleansing or refreshing experience.

Located on Cavill Avenue, this German restaurant was mostly filled with tourists. It was quite a large dine in area so no problems with finding a table. Service was pretty good and they’re efficient in seating and serving people. <br/><br/>I had a bit of an appetite so decided on a Bavarian Haus Teller. It’s a combination of a few classic German fare such as bratwurst, knackwurst, kasseler, and schnitzel. The sausages were quite nice and you get three on the plate. The kasseler is a big chunk of pork loin and it’s quite delicious. My favourite was the schnitzel being crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. The accompanying sauerkraut is a good foil to the richness of the meat. The mashed potato does taste a bit like packet potato as there was no potato chunks in it at all and too smooth. <br/><br/>Overall a nice meal.

We had the Bavarian Haus Teller which came with sausages, schnitzel, kasseler, sauerkraut and mashed potato. Another dining partner had the same but substituted chips and coleslaw for the sides. I had the crispy pork knuckle and my 3.5 year old had the knackwurst sausage with chips. We were all very happy with our meals, the portions were generous. Sausages were very tasty. Service was good, food came out quickly. Bier was very nice. We will come here again!

First impression - wow! It’s definitely authentic, especially in a place where it’s filled with tourist traps. Food isn’t too expensive and the plates are really big!<br/><br/>Faves: schnitzel, sausages, mashed potato, ham. <br/>I heard the beer is great too but I don’t drink so I can’t rate it. <br/><br/>Great friendly service! Definitely great ambience & interior, additionally the servers were all wearing traditional German attire (correct me if I’m wrong) which matched the wooden interior design and other details.
Crab Cakes
Ordered the Bavarian Haus Teller. The sausages, schnitzel and Kessler chop were cooked well; however, the gravy tasted a little like packet gravy. <br/><br/>Staff were lovely and even replaced a beer which didn’t taste right (possibly the end of the keg). <br/><br/>Overall, a good option for German food if you are visiting Surfer’s Paradise.

Walk in to this hidden gem thinking for a good quality German beer. Old European style pub nicely maintained & clean. Staff attentive & few quality German beers on tap including Erdinger.Small menu but really good quality meal. We ordered the pretzel which was crusty outside & softer texture inside was perfect. Simple but nicely presented. Ordered the sausages which was really a gourmet produce. Very juicy succulent sausage on a bed of home made mash. Normally I am not a big fan of sauerkraut but here it was not over powering. Perfectly cuts the fattiness of the sausage. Overall delightful experience. Staff said they running 35+ years there & always maintained the quality. Definitely a must try! Specially compared to dirty backpacker style loud pubs around. Overall I would give 4.3*

I've been there more than 10times, everyone of my family members love it! This has been a choice of restaurant that for us, do not need any further consideration and discussion, and all of us agree to go!

We were heading to Mt Tamborine for hiking (highly recommend it) when we got a bit hungry 😋 This was the only place nearby so gave it a shot. The place is extremely expensive. We had the pierogis (potato and cheese) which came with pickled cabbage. They were yummy 🤤

So much food and so good! Pork knuckle was amazing, crumbed mushrooms were great, mashed potato was superb. Staff were lovely and atmosphere was very cool.... very German!

Verdict: I'm honestly starting to believe there isn't a cuisine that Australia can't perfectly replicate, and with Bavarian Haus, they've more than checked the German box.<br/><br/>Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere?<br/><br/>Having grown up in Germany, I always get nervous when I spot servers wearing traditional German attire (outside of Oktoberfest, this isn't normal). While this is the case at Bavarian Haus, my fears were alleviated when I saw the truly authentic menu. With unique options such as Goulash Soup and Pork Knuckle available (I've yet to see these anywhere else outside of Germany even though they're typically staple dishes), Bavarian Haus really is authentic as far as the dishes go. Frankly? That's all that matters. Star Granted.<br/><br/>Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?<br/><br/>While I was pretty nervous upon seeing a $26 price tag for my Jaegerschnitzel (a dish that's typically no more than $15 in Europe), I quickly discovered that the price was worth it. As you can see, my Schnitzel was absolutely massive, and with fries and a salad to complement the dish, this could have easily served two. Star Granted.<br/><br/>Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?<br/><br/>While my schnitzel was good, I'll admit it was a bit too flat, and the fries weren't quite up to par with the thin and clean-cut German fries. That having been said, the meal was a good one. Single Star Granted.<br/><br/>Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could?<br/><br/>I absolutely love German cuisine, and Bavaria Haus offers some quality and authentic dishes. You should absolutely go there if you're in the mood for German food. However, for the price, there are better options in the area. No Star Granted.

The atmosphere is good. The service is so-so. They give you a menu and pencil. You write down what you wanna eat. We ordered crispy pork knuckle and traditional one. The pork skin is hard to chewy, but the meat is tender. The pork knuckle don't have any flavour. There are many potatoes mash on the side which I really like it. The sausage is quite good and yummy. The King prawn salad is fresh. The fish and chips are crispy. Nothing special here. Maybe I expect too much.

Does this place need renovations? I believe it does. It feels like you're entering an underground secret restaurant during WW ll. The place stinks & the décor is horrible. BUT, the food is undeniably tasty. I mean their bread itself is delicious! I loved how waitresses are dressed in German traditional clothes (& they're also extremely nice). The maître'd was the nicest! She took care of everything (even though it felt like she struggled at times, but she handled it well). Someone just has to renovate this place, maybe come up with new food ideas too!

First night in Surfers decided to try this German restaurant and I wish we hadn't it's always a bad sign when you have to tick boxes on a form and pay be fore you eat in a restaurant. Everything in this place screams tacky and drab from the poorly dressed German styled waitress, to the Aussie manager who has a poor German accent and the cringeworthy decor not to mention the food. <br/><br/>The restaurant had an over powering smell of sauerkraut not to mention incredibly hot. My partner and I ordered the share plate for two at $68 what a mistake the salad was warm and sour , pork knuckle very fatty with minimal meat and the mash potato well it's powdered mash, I even confirmed with the waitress who got confirmation for the chef, for a restaurant powdered mash should never be acceptable. We left most of the meal. <br/><br/>Customer service was not much better with the wait staff ignoring customers and simply advising fill out the form tick a box and pay at counter and within minutes our meal arrived. In always suspicious when you wait less than ten minutes for a meal in a restaurant. All I can say is the owner is lucky he must have a deal with a local tour company because Japanese tourists where arriving by the bus load. <br/><br/>Don't waste your time coming to this place. I've attached a picture of our table cloth which was stuck the the table and very dirty. <br/>This place only survives on tourists who eat there only once

Very rude. Fast food type of service. That place work for Chinese package group tourists as sort of a German restaurant. Germans are never going to that place. Avoid.

I must say I was reluctant to go here. Last time I came I was a young pup and just seemed a good meal. Probably showing my age as once this had theatre. No more:(. Having said that, I came and a beer! Obviously a pint. I ordered the Veil snitzel and had high expectations! Having said that, I was shocked by the high quality and loved my meal. A very pleasant surprise;)<br/>

You can't miss the authentic German theme of this restaurant, even from outside. From the beer stein ceiling to the waitress's dress, the place looks amazing. You are given a fully illustrated menu with a large self-order form and pencil. Interesting concept except you need to make sure the waitress doesn't unintentionally miss any of the dishes out. <br/><br/>Food was out-of-this-world. The crispy pork knuckle was covered in pork crackling style skin and the meat was tender. There was a lot of fat though (as expected) which was easily removed. Chips are golden crunchy perfection. Highly recommend the battered flathead and chips too - battered perfection. <br/><br/>We also ordered the vegetable lasagne which tasted delicious but much smaller than the photo and looked quite different. For $24, I thought this dish was the least value in money. <br/><br/>Overall, the food was incredible and the atmosphere was awesome. Highly recommended if you're not watching your weight or going for a cheat day.

I have tried other Germany restaurant that serves the crispy knuckles, but Bavarian's was perfect, meat was juicy and perfect in flavour, will definitely come back again for it.

Service and experience are nice but I've definitely had better German (although not in Surfers). Fine enough to visit if you're in the mood for German

Not recommend. Don't understand why this is famous, service is just ok. Quality of food not worth the price. McDonald is so much better than this

BAD SERVICE. Awful service made this meal bad right from the beginning. With 2/3 tables available the waitress said "No" straight away without any polite words to us when we asked whether we could sit in one of the empty tables. <br/>Food is average.

The food wasn't mind blowing, but there's not much choice on the Gold Coast unless you're having Japanese. It's a little bit quirky and dated, but I enjoyed myself. Don't order the salmon, though. My friend did and it was the size of a matchbox.

Do not go there!!!. Awful, bad, terrible!!!<br/>Please, please do not waste you time, money and tummy.<br/>Food (if you can call it...) was so bad... Prepared loooooooooooooong time before serving , warmed up in microwave.......... Mash potato from a bag !!!!!!!!<br/>Is that a restaurant?!?!?!?<br/>We find out at the owner is Taiwanese Chinese and Philipino I think......<br/>Everything about German............haahaha<br/>Prices from space!

So they dress up and have German beer.It takes a bit more than that to be a German restaurant. It's a pity, it doesn't require much effort to get it right, but the sauerkraut was merely steamed cabbage and the gravy is straight out of a packet. The beetroot in the salad was more sour!<br/><br/>Pathetic and a rip off. Not an authentic German experience!

Hands down the worst German meal I have ever had. The sausages were microwaved, the mash was instant and the sauerkraut was tinned. The restaurant was grubby too. Avoid like the plague.

A little disapointed with the quality of the food, I expected something more. For $30 mains I expected good quality cooked meals, not pre- heated food. But the beer was good. Food came out with in 5 minutes of being orderd.
Corinne
Very yummy big meal great homely feeling nice and quiet great to get out of the hustle of surfers

Ish no so good. It's Bavarian theme and uniqueness attracted us to this place. We were conservative with our meal choices, ordering a Jäger schnitzel and chicken schnitzel - very average and way overpriced. We got out of there as soon as possible.

Not worth the money. If this is what German food is I will never try it again. The potato dumplings had no taste, kinda like paste, the spaetzle was not what I expected,I expected noodles, not a pile of mush with no taste. We were given gravy which was awful! Way too salty and more than likely packaged. They use trademark names of soda on their menu then give you a store brand soda. I was going to try the struedal but figured it was store bought too. I was really looking forward to going because I knew it was a small place run by husband and wife thinking the food would be amazing, but not so. I am not a big eater so the portion size did not bother me but they are not as generous as other reviews suggest.

Great Date. My boyfriend took me here on a surprise date because it's his favourite German place, and i agree. The service was good, and the food was amazing. I would love to go back when i'm next on the coast

Overestimate. Well, u definitely gotta be there early but watch out how early that is. we were first seeated table and i wasn't sure is bcoz of too first, the dished served just in cold condition, i assure if it can serve in 'just cooked' condition, i wouldn't be so disappointed.

High Quailty food. Best Order to get here is the Bavarian combo that comes with a wide selection of sausages, schnitzel and sauerkraut with mash I think. Haven't been here for years, but I do remember that it was a lot beter in their old location. <br/><br/>Prices are expensive here, because you pay for quality food.

There are a number of choices on the Menu, ranging from classic German cuisine, grain fed char grilled steak, fresh seafood, pasta, as well as a variety of salads and a large range of European beers. Of course, when at a German restaurant, what could be more typical than to order Crispy Pork Knuckle, Sausage Connection and Jager Schnitzel, which we had for mains. We also shared Crumbed Mushroom & Onion Rings and Spicy Potato Wedges on the side.
