Little Oasis In Gordon. Just love that little oasis like place. Perfect for after work drink and have a cheese plate etc... good food and lovely atmosphere. Recommended!
A great find on the North Shore. My husband and I, with three friends, had dinner at 2 Stews last night for the first time. We had heard very good things about the food and wines, but hadn’t ventured up to Gordon (from Waverton) and were not disappointed. We enjoyed the tapas style food and shared plates on offer.
The restaurant was quite busy, but the staff seemed to work seamlessly and Nada, one of the two owners (a husband and wife team) managed the busy evening very well.
We started with some Sashimi of Tuna (so fresh and presented beautifully), Tempura Prawns, and the Manuka-smoked Salmon Salad, which were delicious and paired beautifully with William Fevre Champs Chablis, suggested by Tony, the other owner. The wine list is rich with exciting choices.
Next were Lamb Spring Rolls (suggested by our waiter), and they were perfect – light and crispy with a spiced lamb filling and a beautiful yogurt dipping sauce. They were so good we ordered another round! We also tried the Duck, Pork and Pistachio Terrine, which was lovely accompanied by pickled cherries, as well as the Beetroot Salad, which went well with the other dishes. Tony suggested a bottle of Mud House (Central Otago) Pinot Noir, and it was a very good pairing.
We managed to squeeze in one dessert – Nada suggested the Banana Fritters with Peanut Butter Ice Cream and Caramel Sauce – it was sublime.
We will be back - this is not your average North Shore restaurant. The food was inspired, inventive and had a touch of an Asian influence that we all loved. Tony and Nada’s light but effective hands-on approach, the relaxed atmosphere in 2 Stews made for a great night out and a creative dining experience.
...Sorry Miggy. I would like to begin by saying a group of my friends and I attended the "Chilean Wine Night" just last week, and I haven't had a better night out in 4 years. Thanks for having us 2 Stews.
What made our night so enjoyable was the beautiful variety of wines and incredibly tasty food. Upon arrival we were greeted by the wait staff and received a refreshing Pisco Sour beverage. We were then seated and educated on the food and wines we were about to eat and drink. The food was shared and there was more than enough food provided amongst those who were attending. If anything i noticed there were left overs. We received numerous flights (3 glasses per person) of wine and were topped up by the friendly wait staff if there were particular varieties in which we really liked. We sampled from over 10 different bottles of Chilean Wine, all of which were of top grade and flavor.
There have been some vague and negative remarks from this particular night, as listed from ‘Miggy’ that confuse me... what's to say you even attended the night 'Miggy'. If your comments were any more vague, you could use it to review any restaurant. - "The very dry boring dessert"? - Please explain the dessert and what was so 'dry' and 'boring' about it? Writing these sorts of reviews ruins great nights like these in the future.
Everyone who did attend were all so happy from what I witnessed and overly satisfied about how wonderful the evening truly was. $85 dollars a head was quite cheap considering the time and effort put into making the evening what it was. AMAZING.
I met lovely people who were also attending, and the staff made us all feel very comfortable and relaxed. Everyone applauded the female owner when she stepped out of the kitchen at the end of the night, for the quality of food, and service.
My Husband and I can't wait 'till next years Wine Nights so i can enjoy more fantastic nights of great food and wine.
Thank you for the wonderful time and look forward to 2014.
Great local! The flight of wines are a fantastic way to try a selection of different wines before you decide on a glass. Food is pricey for the size, but delicious. Had the smoked salmon, slow cooked beef and the duck, all fantastic, duck was superb! Owners were friendly & some waitstaff were learning so things were a bit slow, but everyone has to start somewhere! A relaxing environment, thank you!
Excellent food, good service and nice atmosphere. BUT, very small portion size and expensive $$$$. Don't go here hungry or you'll be up for over $50 per person.
A unique and impressive restaurant that rivals the best restaurants from Baulkham Hills to Mosman
Wake up North Shore. Finally a great little bar on the North Shore. Great atmosphere, fantastic food and decent wines. Perfect for a mid week drink as well. Good for you Tony and Nada, I think a risk worth taking. The North Shore will help make it work!
The end of the cultural desert. Thank goodness the north shore has finally grown up! A real live wine bar ... a very welcome addition to our cultural desert that usually is all tucked up in bed by 9 o'clock. Added to that 2 Stews and a Cockatoo is great, good food, tasty and interesting and a great wine selection served with friendly waitstaff and overseen by passionate owners. Well done!!
This will be my local!. The food is amazing! The atmosphere is great. Nada and Tony were very welcoming and have obviously put a lot of heart into this place.
We tried 6 dishes between our group and everything tasted so unbelievably good. The 'Wine Flight' was a great way to try a few different wines at a reasonable price and without ending up under the table!! I'll definitely be going back there regularly.
Lovely atmosphere, great wine list and excellent tapas style food. Eat inside or out in the courtyard. Fantastic to have such a cool place to hang out in!!
Had Set Menu B, volume is generous that feed family of four well, but the quality of the ingredients were not compromised and we were very satisfied!
The best authentic southern Chinese cuisine of the upper north shore!
Great food with a lovely dining setting. Very enjoying & well priced
Good Cantonese food a bit expensive side but I think it's worth the dollar. Nice astromphere for friends or family gathering
A very handy venue for a Monday night. Tucked in behind the old Gordon GPO there's a good selection of Chinese classics served by friendly staff. Take advantage of Dine and Discover vouchers and a half-price Happy Hour Cocktail. Or have two!
Although it's a little pricey for portion sizes, the staff are lovely, the food is amazing, and it's all served quite quickly. We also had a coeliac in our group and they were very well informed about their food - not only was the soy sauce GF, but they use potato flour for some things as well!
Will def be going back!
