Review Michael's Family Restaurant - Gosford

A lovely little Italian restaurant on the main road. We loved the food, it was so tasty and a very generous amount in every dish we definitely felt it was value for money. The service was good, however the one let down for us was the toilet, it was down an alleyway, which is not safe for a lady at night and there was no soap, no hand towels or dryer and it was not clean, so the toilet gets a minus from us. Other than that we had a lovely time there and suggest to Michael's Italian family that this is an area that needs work.

We'd agree with the high star ratings - just great food and excellent service. Went there for the first time tonight and very impressed! Will be back!

Great restaurant , the food is of good quality and generous in size. Book ahead if you are planning on dining on Saturday nights as it gets busy.

The food is so flavourful and the generous portions make it a night to remember.

It has beautiful food, friendly staff and has an amazing atmosphere. I would advise making a booking before turning up or you may not be able to secure a table!!! AMAZING cheese and garlic pizza!

Previous visit to this restaurant was a great experience, we decided to take mum for her birthday and I don’t think we’ll be back. The kitchen forgot my sisters meal which, yes we got a complimentary drink and that was fine, the waitress who served us was really lovely and tried to keep on top of everything. My partner, myself and brother-in-law ordered the steak specials, I asked for well done, it was mostly medium throughout I gave half of it to my partner who doesn’t mind rarer meat, the meal was huge so I was full and I enjoyed the seafood off it so didn’t bother sending it back. My brother-in-law had the same issue, a lot rarer and couldn’t finish it, he doesn’t like to make a fuss so we didn’t know he didn’t enjoy it until my sister brought it up after we left. The rest of the meals were fine but this is where the experience went downhill. No one came to check on the table after the meals were brought out, we ordered a second round of drinks which were meant to be complimentary with the meals ($75 and 2x $60) which, free okay whatever but for the price they were came more expensive than the same thing on the menu so ..... annoying. The manager/owner was seated and chatting for the majority of our time there which would be fine except her staff could’ve used more of her attention. The lady with dark hair who served our table did not stop, was really lovely and obviously overstretched. She was apologetic and helpful. The blonde younger waitress was ridiculous, she avoided walking too far from the pass and when we managed to get her attention after 20 minutes she looked disinterested and was rude. When we tried to put a drink order in we waited over 20 minutes and decided that was enough and it was time to go. When we headed to the door, the manager then stood up to make the drinks we ordered, by this point we’d had enough so cancelled the order and paid the bill. The bill came to $310 for the table (if it was a nice experience this wouldn’t have been a problem). As we were paying the young blonde waitress with the chip on her shoulder spent the whole time glaring at my sister and brother-in-law. The service and standards were just not worth it or the energy to complain.

I have been a regular at Michaels for as long as I can remember. The restaurant seems to have changed hands again and things have changed not for the better. Went last night and found the initial service to be adequate although the waitstaff were not sure about the specials and stumbled through them. Not really caring about the specials we opened the menu and found there has been a significant pricing increase (a surf and turf for $75 which was $60 for example) which we would not have noticed apart from the fact that the menu has been hand updated and not even reprinted. After ordering 2 cokes which used to be a can poorer into a glasswork with ice it is now out of a bottle and was flat we had had enough and decided to leave. This used to be a hidden gem, but the new owners have tried to over price the menu and degrade the quality of the product. We walked out and won't be back.

My partner and I both considered Michaels our favourite restaurant on the coast however we will not be returning after our last experience. We did not see the staff smile once when we entered and were pretty rude to each other after they were having difficulties trying to find our pre booked table setting a bad tone for the night. once at our table the waitress bluntly told us they were out of menus and we had to wait for new ones, we knew what we wanted to order so this wasn't a big issue but once we started we were told that they had cut those dishes off the menu so we waited around 5 more minutes for menus to be brought. We had brought a bottle of red wine with us and were not offered any glasses for it. We also noticed another table of two near us also had a bottle of wine and no glasses. This table had to ask for their glasses which prompted us to do the same. after 5 minutes they were brought glasses and we were then told they were out of wine glasses and we would have to use champagne glasses instead. finally the menus came and we ordered straight away. a short while after ordering we were approached by a different staff member and told the specials despite having already ordered? our entree arancini tasted great but was only just warm. our mains took an extremely long time to come out and by this time we were ready to leave. we ordered two cokes and received one in a small glass and one in a glass twice the size? On top of this, being served by someone who cant even manage to be nice or even smile at the customers just made our night so unenjoyable not to mention the prices for most dishes were inflated by an excessive amount. so sad this turned out to be our worst restaurant experience yet.

Ordered take out for the family. Got the margarita with ham and the London... used to love this place but it has gone down hill in a massive way. First the kids margarita had enough cheese on it for 3 pizzas, so much that it slid off the top of the pizza. They usually eat a large between them but i was lucky to get them to eat 1 slice.. The London looked good, but again far too much cheese and the base was horrible. It tasted like a store bought base at $42 for 2 pizzas and a garlic bread I know I won't be back.. sorry not sure what has changed at restaurant but it needs to be fixed.

Waited almost two hours for an entree and 2 mains. While my meal was fine, my partners ravioli was almost raw. Furthermore, no-one asked how our meal was at any point during the meal or when I payed. Had it not been for my meal I would give 1 star. Very disappointing.

After having a horrendous experience dining in last October where we waited TWO hours for our entrees and another 45 minutes for our meals where they still got our orders wrong! Tonight, I decided to give michael's a second chance. Just bought two takeaway pizzas, the Australian pizza was over salted and had SIX prawns on a medium size. The meat lovers had little to no sauce on the base and was very dry. To say that I'm disappointed is an understatement and would not recommend this place at all!

Have been going to michaels for over 10 years . The last three visits have been extremely disappointing. Service is now terrible and the standard of food has dropped with the new owner ? What a shame as It was such a good restaurant. Will never go there again ... and sadly will not recommend .

Staff friendly - but got to say guys - it was obvious you have had changes in the kitchen. Pizza still great - but my veal last night - Avacado not ripe - in fact CRUNCHY (should not have been served on any of the meals), carrot totally raw - and meal was cold. We normally love your restaurant. Bring Michael back :)

Very friendly staff, lovely food - just one downside with the toilets being outside and around the back... wouldn't be good if it was pouring down with rain. In saying that, I'd come back if I find myself in the area again.

We tried out the new Michaels at Lisarow and we are so excited now that we have beautiful Italian food in our neighbourhood. Lovely staff, amazing food and a chilled atmosphere.

A highly recommended place to eat,but I would suggest getting a reservation, it is a popular place. The service and food were great, it even satisfied a picky eater of a 7 year old!

I have been to this restaurant before the food was fine, this time was horrible when my burra main course did come it was swimming in a sauce which was seasoned to much. The delicate fish was burnt and very bitter. It had enough mash potatoes for three people. At $45 this was terribly over priced and revolting. Im not sure why the servings of food have to be so huge especially the mashed potatoe. My husband and l will not be returning here. His food wasnt good either. Having spent about $300 that night it wasnt worth the money at all.
