The chicken was a bit too dry and the garlic sauce was a bit too mild. Still better chicken and better value than almost everywhere in Sydney but with El Jannah over the road doing better at the same price, I'm not sure why I'd ever return.
I prefer charcoal chicken from Hawa as everything is delicious. Their chicken has a great charcoal flavour without dryness and the garlic sauce packs the right amount of kick! I find the service here good as well.
They have a massive space and is probably one of my go-to places for charcoal chicken.
Great place to go when you need a quick feed! Chips drenched in chicken salt and extra crispy & chicken nice and juicy. Large seating area aswell so you don't really have to fight for a seat. Will be coming back again soon!
Always fresh and busy. Great place to have a good cheap meal or take a chicken and salad home. I always get the fattoush salad and babaganoush with a chicken.
personally I prefer this place to the busy and bustling el Jannah , the chicken here seems jucier and the chips crispier ,, good value and delicious food !! also it's usually a lot more spacious so that's a nice plus :D
Hawa chicken is by far the best charcoal chicken compared to any of the other locals. There chicken is tender and perfectly seasoned. There prices are great and menu is broad for your preference of what you feel like having. I typically have the chicken wrap with everything in it and that’s my ultimate favourite, I did try the quarter chicken last time I was in (bit messy but you can alter what you want to eat with those dishes) because it comes with assorted pickles, garlic sauce, bread etc.
Seating is fine as there is so many to choose from and they are very quick in serving your order.
Parking is also not a problem as there is the council parking or street parking.
Overall this place does deserve a 5 out of 5!
Dropped into Hawa while covering the retail market as we wanted to have arabic food, it was a pleasant sunny day , we had a shish plate each which came along with the appetizers like hummus.
The bread served with the hummus was excellent & the shish too was top end.
BEST CHICKEN EVER...BEST CHICKEN EVER...BEST CHICKEN EVER...BEST CHICKEN EVER...BEST CHICKEN EVER...will be coming back for sure when in Sydney :)
Hawa is my person favourite when it comes to charcoal chicken - they are very consistent with the quality and taste of their food and I have never been let down. I do find them to be slightly cheaper than the highly rated El Jannahs - in my experience they serve juicer chicken too! I think Hawa deserves more attention.
Everything else goes well but the garlic sauce is alright. Really love coming here for charcoal chicken now. Chicken is always moist and pickles aren’t too salty. Chicken mix platter is good if you want all chicken, pickles, tabouli, dips and falafel in one plate. Service is decent but always requires some waiting time for food to come out
One of the best Lebanese take away joints in Sydney. I travel from the northern beaches just to eat here! I have never been disappointed with any meal I have ordered here! The chicken is amazingly delicious and the hummus and baba ganoosh is so delicious! The chips weren’t the greatest but I still keep going back for everything else!
Its another place in Granville which serves amazing chargrilled chicken. Ambience is better than el j. We also tried veg platter which is kind of ok.
Second time here and I have to say I've been satisfied with my meal both times. The chicken here is j00c3y (compared to EJs) and both the garlic sauce and chips were nice too.
Also it was my first time trying the fattoush salad and I thoroughly enjoyed it!! This probably isn't the right way to eat it but I wrapped some salad in my lebanese bread with garlic sauce and chicken and I loved the added crunch of the fried pita pieces in my little wrap!
It's been some time since I've been to Hawa but I've been having some cravings so Matt and I had to go back for a meal. Not much has changed since I last went. . Hawa is a casual eatery with a large dining space to accommodate many customers. Hawa is a short stroll from Granville Station but we drive on this occasion. We park in the big car park across from the station. There's a short queue ahead of Matt and I at approx 2pm on Saturday. We order at the counter and sit down with our number.
Tasty charcoal chicken with quick service at a good price. Best for takeaway as there isn't too much seating room inside. I recommend the chicken meal deals; maybe with some extra toum!

The smell of barbequed chicken hits you as soon as you turn onto the main street of Granville. While this suburb is probably best known as the home of the original El Jannah, it is immediately apparent to me that this is not where this mouth-watering aroma is emanating from... Taking up several shop-fronts, the culprit is Hawa Charcoal Chicken. It has bright red awnings, and an extensive indoor seating area that seems to go on forever. You order at the counter where you can watch meat skewers being hand-turned over charcoal, and endless racks of flattened chickens rotating on a spit to a soundtrack of pops and sizzles from fat dripping onto glowing charcoal. As you'd expect, the scent of charred chicken skin is even stronger in here, and it makes my mouth water even after a half-eaten, unsatisfying dinner elsewhere. We consume our second dinner at one of the street-side outdoor tables, where we can watch late-night Granville parade by. Most of them seem to be coming to Hawa, or...
Best Charcoal Chicken in Sydney, Definitely worth the price. Restaurant is large with many seating areas and well ventilated. Love it and will 100% recommend it to anyone looking to taste the best succulent chicken by far. And right in the same premises they have their own cafe ( campos) which definitely to me sells the best coffee by far. Asked for a latte and boy it was a heck of a latte, the service is excellent and the workers always have a smile on their face, will be back definitely .
My favourite place for Charcoal Chicken. Best food. Staff are great and a very filling meal. The garlic sauce (Toum) is out of this world. Chicken is very juicy
My boyfriend and I are a big fan of their food. We frequent this place everywhere week or so. Theskewers are just amazing especially the mince lamb and lamb skewers. The amount of pickle is generously ( I preferred them over El J's pickles) and the amount of garlic sauce is reasonable. My only complaint was that it's a bit tough and I get a bit tired from chewing.
This place located close to el jannah and pretty much the same but wanted to taste how good the food is here. Walking distance from granville station this restaurant was empty on a Saturday evening.
Service was quick and we got our takeaway soon. We ordered half chicken plate served with garlic sauce. The taste was good and the quantity too was good.
Pricing too is ok. Will try more of their stuff next time.
Very tasty Lebanese take away located in Granville. Great food and service with probably the best falafel in the suburb. In my opinion, better tham El Jannah
Good food. The mixed charcoal chicken plate is a must. Definitely giving El J a run for it's money. One of the best falafels I've had is from this great place .

They serve the best charcoal chicken in Sydney. Have tried many other places but nothing comes close to this. Even the falafel is a must try. The chicken mixed platter is my favourite.
Super friendly and quick service! The chicken was great and the sauces were quite smooth since it went well with both the chicken and chips. The restaurant setting and layout was pretty neat, good for large groups. Fun place to chill and eat out with friends. ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ
The chicken was really good! Just a quarter is enough to really fill the stomach. And i really liked the garlic sauce. It's perfect with the chicken. The serving is really generous and satisfying. I'd come back gere to try the shish kebab which also has good reviews. 👍👍👍
LOVE THEIR FALAFELS!!!! so herby and full of deliciousness! El Js falafel is a little bigger for memory but Hawa's is so much tastier we've never gone back to El Js!
Being vegan, I there are so many options here which is awesome!!!
Love this place!! :)

Came here w the intention of trying the 'other chook shop' (hint: e.j.) in the area for back to back comparo. Scroll dwn for summary 😆
Impressed w how big and clean the outlet was. Table service during lunch was efficient and polite, order taker knowledgeably pointed out to us that extra order of pickles was not needed as our chooks came w bread fries pickles n garlic sauce.
Order of chicken n lamb cubes/skewers came after a short wait. We hit both the leg and breast, eager to find out if the leg 3.5/5 triumphed the breast 3.25/5 in succulent juicy goodness. Dipped in in house garlic sauce (3.5/5), both cuts were almost on par, marinade penetrated meat well, skin lightly charred with that unique slightly sour (from lemon or vinegar) after taste. In terms of flavour, the chooks at hawa are not overwhelming, in fact they are quite mellow and well balanced. Sad to say that our lamb skewer 2.75/5 was tough.
Hawa is a comfortable spacious place to enjoy your leb food. It also has a cafe onsite serving (of course, coffee), various cakes and ice cream. It presents itself as a 1 stop dining venue with well mannered (part) table service.
In short: hawa offers a more comfortable n relaxed setting in which to enjoy your meal. El j is more cramped vis a vis hawa. Hawa's chicken is just that more well rounded and no less juicy than el j's. Service is almost on par with hawa just piping ahead (probably bec they were less busy when we arrived just before lunch time).
Honestly I think they share the same garlic sauce recipe as El jannah's down the road. If you blindfolded me and made me eat their chicken and garlic sauce, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
Food arrives at a decent time. Always tables available, which i'm surprised at honestly. This restaurant deserves to be full at all times. Takeaway deals are well priced so that may be a reason for emptiness.

Mention Granville and charcoal chicken possibly comes up in the conversation as the one thing people go there for. Hawa Charcoal Chicken serves a fine bird but its the veg platter we'll be back for. Sitting on the train on the line heading toward Parramatta or Fairfield, one look out the window at Granville and you might be forgiven for thinking the suburb is on fire. There's smoke billowing from buildings, pluming down over the car park. When the train doors open, a smell engulfs the carriage, strangely comforting and familiar.
Great food chicken was hot and tabouli was fresh and fast service garlic is the best in Granville
The waiters were asking if we were satisfied
Awesome chicken. One quarter will fill you up. Love the shish kebab and the sauces of course. The place is clean and very close to the station. Deepthi Sagar Deepthi Sagar
The best charcoal chicken ever! Together with hummus, pickles, garlic sauce, tabbouli and bread, this is the most fabulous meal. And unbelievable value too - it worked out at just $13.25 per person for our party of eight!
It's a massive restaurant so there is plenty of seating.
Great charcoal chicken and I find it a lot more succulent than El Jannah's down the road which is more dry and charcoal-y but on the other hand, El Jannah's garlic sauce has just a better edge. Regardless, it is a restaurant that is great to both dine in or for takeaway with good value family meals.
Finally got around to trying out Hawa, and it was a pretty good first visit. The place is MASSIVE, I wasn’t really expecting it to be that big and spacious so was taken aback. Got a Hawa mix plate, vegetarian roll, chips, and an extra serving of garlic sauce (the mix plate comes with it and we realised it was actually enough).
It was a big feed, you will definitely be rolling out of there. The food was also very tasty, and the garlic sauce lived up to the hype. Once you have the bread, garlic, and pickles, you’re set! It’s a winning combo and any addition is sure to be delicious. The falafel was probably the only thing that wasn’t as good, but so minor when everything else was a hit.
I've been coming here for years and this is my favourite charcoal chicken shop in all of Sydney! For several reasons, the food is consistently great, The location is near family and where i live, the premises is huge and never have issues finding a seat, the food is very well priced and served so fast! El J is up the road as we know but Hawa has better, faster service and always taste great. The coffee at the side cafe in the seating area is well brewed and they always give you a nice cookie for free!
Quick & Awesome service, excellent food
To top that up.........really cheap....!!!
Just to make another 60 words....
We had chicken roll, beef roll, chips, drinks and whole chicken the best in town.
Love Lebanese chicken. And despite having tried Hawa in the past, I jumped onto the El Jannah bandwagon and completely forgot about Hawa! I recently returned to Hawa and this is my new fave. Loved the food and can't wait to return for another feed.
When I feel like charcoal chicken or feeling for some shish, I always think of Hawa. I love it better than El Jannahs even though all my friends are EJ fans but for me it's Hawa over them any day! Love the variety and also the fact that you can sit and relax and not feel so crammed in one space. The ambience and the service is great and I always love coming here. I always bring friends who are out of town to this place and would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a little more variety and also enjoy some wholesome charcoal chicken without feeling like you're just at some fast take away joint, also staff are super friendly and helpful!
I go Hawa chicken maybe 3 times aweek cos I work 3 mint walk from it yes I know it's bad but every day I smell the chicken and I'm like stuff it I feel like it.
I've eatn at all the Lebo chicken spots in sydney this is the best one by far....
For all these years in Sydney, I would pass granville daily and stop only if I were eating at Himalaya. For middle eastern cuisine, i would end up either at Auburn - New star or Punchbowl Jasmine. Up until niw when I went on Friday to Granville to try out charcoal chicken at El Jannah. As i roamed the street I noticed Hawa and read reviews to aee this is pretty good as well. I went to EJ but they were a cash only. So i wanlked out and changed my mind. Decided to stop by at Hawa and bumped into a friend who highly recommended.
I ordered the single chicken deal which had a whole charcoal chicken along with garlic dip and chips and coke, this was great. The chicken was medium charred and extremely juicy. Highly recommend. I ordered a lamb roll with extra hummous. This was good as well. A lil chewy lamb with hummous pickles. The dips unfortunately have to be ordered seperately. I went in for the hummous, baba ganpush and puckles. The dips are amazing. Specially the baba ganoush which is so adept smoky. The garlic dip is great. I wish though they had it included in the deals than having to pay seperate for each. This place is huge and loads of seating.
As long time lovers of El Jannah, my friends and I decided to give Hawa (just down the road ) a try. What I initially loved about Hawa was the seating! It was spacious and comfortable, unlike El Jannah. However I don't think the chicken quite hit the El Jannah mark. 3 of us ordered a single shish chicken plate which came with hommous, baba ghanouj, garlic, tabouli and a large shish chicken whilst another friend ordered a quarter chicken meal which came with the same dips and tabouli but also 2 falafels. We also ordered sambousik and chips to share. The dips were my favourite part of the meal. They were delicious! Especially the baba ghanouj and garlic! I did also enjoy the chicken, which was marinated. Wasn't a big fan of the chips. They tasted a little soggy really. The sambousik pastry was absolutely delicious however the stuffing was just average.
Loved how affordable this place was and how quick and prompt service is. I would be happy to come again for a cheap and enjoyable meal (it is cheaper than El Jannah also.)
My partner and I dine here 3 times/month.
I discovered this place after being disappointed with El Jannah one too many times.
Exceptional, friendly and fast service. They always get our order correct and we receive our meals together. The food is good value for $$$ and keeps you full throughout the day. Keep up the good work guys!
was just nearby and had to check this place out. I was told Hawa was better than El jannehs so couldnt wait to try it out. I got the hot chicken wrap with hot chips in it and it was bomb! Definitely recommend getting it with tabouli and cheese. The chicken was definitely better than El jannehs. I definitely have to come back!
I love a good charcoal chicken and upon driving past Hawa it appears half of Granville are too. We arrived early at around 5pm on a Sunday and the queue was out the door already. I was excited at the fact I had finally found a chicken shop in Sydney which generate the buzz of these shops growing up.
After finding a park a block away we made our way down to the front of the shop and straight to the back of the queue. This gave us time to decide what we wanted. We ordered the Hawa 1/2 Chicken and Chips deal ($16.95) dine in ($11.95) take away. We also ordered the Hawa 1/4 chicken mixed platter ($16.95) dine in (Cheaper take-away).
Yes, the premium for dining in was big but sort of worth it when you're driving 30 minutes to get there and faced with a queue at the front of the shop. We sat at a table near front but realised there was a much larger dining area which took up two other shop spaces.
The chicken really gives charcoal chicken it's meaning with a beautifully smoky flavour and unapologetically charred skin while the meat retained moisture. The famous garlic sauce was the perfect accompaniment.
And yes Naomi the drive was worth it!
I consider charcoal chicken to be one of the worlds greatest creations and hot chips to be their royal descendent. These two things combined with garlic sauce and pickles, are all I need to live happily ever after in my kingdom. Hawa is without a doubt the best charcoal chicken in Sydney and dare I say, Australia. A former el jannah lover, I was unfaithful, turned to Hawa in my time of need and have never looked back. We're now living in a joyous garlic fueled matrimony.
One of the greatest, most satisfying, and affordable meals you will ever enjoy.
By far... The greatest chicken and garlic on the southern hemisphere!
Their chicken is juicer with just the right amount of smokyness than el jannneh. Their garlic (toom) is also creamier and incredibly Moorish. Had their chicken rolls which come with all the garnishes
A must try.
Finally all my hard work of eating has been recognised as i was given a voucher from Zomato for Hawa charcoal chicken. A cold night always calls for grilled chicken and taking full advantage of it and the voucher popped in granville. We ordered the single chicken meal deal (that came with fries and a drink) and a lamb sheesh plate. The best thing about the meal was the dips platter. Those were to die for. Hands down those were the best hummus and baba ghanoush i ever had. The tabouli was fresh and the pickled vegetables had the right kick and crunch. The dishes lacked carbs. There was only a 1/4th piece of lebanese bread and few crumbs of another bread (that we literally fought over for as it was sooo good). Coming to the meats, the sheesh was a miss as it was extremely dry but it had a good spice. The chicken was moist in the inside (far better than it's competitor down the road) but once you peel away the skin the meat itself is bland. Even though they gave a generous portion of fries, it all went soggy and had to throw all away unfortunately. Maybe frying for a bit longer would prevent this?
My normal go to place in Granville is El Jannah but wanted to experiment with another charcoal chicken place here given the pretty good reviews. First impression was the garlic sauce and pickle servings are less generous than EJ. However it was actually the perfect amount as there are usually leftovers for EJ. The bread used here are pocket breads rather than the normal Lebanese breads. I think the chicken and pickles here are better cooked and flavoured than EJ but EJ's sauce and chips still come out on top.

Okay, I would like to be very honest with everyone. When I'm at Granville, I usually head to El Jannah as it's the most reputable chicken shop you will find in the area. I've been going to this place for many years. However, as an avid foodie, I wanted to try something new for once and there happened to be another really big chicken shop right across the street. This place named "Hawa" did not disappoint and was truly amazing!
First of all, the premises is very humungous and spacious which is good if you're planning to dine in. They also have very clean toilets and nice a cafe. Secondly, for our meals, we ordered the takeaway mega deal ($50) which came with the usual items - garlic sauce, bbq chicken , chips, and drink. The highlight of the meal was the bbq chicken which was moist, juicy, and was imparted with an amazing charcoal flavour. Generally, I find that bbq chicken can get quite dry if it's cooked on charcoal. However, this chicken was beautifully cooked and it shows you that these guys are truly experts at what they're doing.
Overall, it was solid a meal and I thank the staff at Hawa for the amazing hospitality. You must check this place out if you're at Granville as it's a serious contender for casual and comforting Middle Eastern food.
Tastes like el jannah, to be honest ! But that doesn't mean it tastes bad! It was quite delicious and if you don't want to go to el jannah and try a different place, come here!
Hawa was a great place to shift once el jannah's quality of food went south.
The garlic sauce is not so potent that the person next day can tell if you had Lebanese cuisine.
The roll is at par with El jannahs but the hawa shish is what makes me a regular there.
The baba ganush is one of the best dips i have had.
The chips are better at el jannahs that i can say
Over all must have is hawa shish.
Absolutely fantastic charcoal chicken place in Granville! The chicken is delicious and the accompaniments are incredible. The garlic sauce and babaganoush were the highlights but everything was great and the service was fantastic. Highly recommend you visit whenever you're in the area.
I have been enlightened! Today I experienced the amazing flavours and hospitality of Hawa chicken! To say I left feeling satisfied is an understatement. The chicken was succulent and juicy, the vine leaves were full of flavour and the garlic sauce packed so much punch that even Dracula himself would not be able to resist! What impressed me the most was the flavour in each and variety of each dish. This is truly the best charcoal chicken I have ever had and has kept me longing for more. Looks like I will driving to Granville a whole lot more!
If you want good Lebanese food you need to come here. Everything's fresh, authentic and tastes soooo good. The staff are lovely, especially the manager sam! We weren't sure what to order so he ordered for us. Such a great selection. If I had to pick my favourite dishes (this is hard causes it's all so good!) I would have to go with the fish, charcoal chicken, baba ghanouj, fried cauliflower and that garlic sauce. I'll be back!

Wow charcoal chicken just can't get better than this I would go to this place every week with my girlfriend and we always get a full chicken and chips as well as glass bottle cokes because glass bottles retain their cold temperature better and there's a Cafe next to it but we're too full to try anything there and the garlic sauce is so tasty but I tool a friend here once and they said it was too garlicky and I was about to slap the food right out of their mouth and make them apologise to Mr. Hawa but that's bad etiquette and people say the chicken is a bit black here and to that I say it's a charcoal chicken place you're going to expect a bit of black it's just like a public toilet and being surprised there's fricken skid marks on the bowl like you don't know what the last person ate last night to create that mess jeez the service and dining area is great too
Awesome vegetable platter, being a veggie difficult to find good Lebanese restaurant. Me n my husband really loved the food, surely visiting again.
The chicken here is perfect! Not too dry, not too oily. Service is great, it's not a long wait for the food. However, the pickled turnips were too salty for me.
Good value love the moist chicken, garlic sauce and pickles yummy easy parking on some bites otherwise it is Kai's good sized chicken portions
Charcoal chicken out there better than EJ. Even harder to believe that it is not far from EJ in Granville. As a charcoal chicken addict, it didn't take long for me to find my way to Hawa. My first impression. I like this place. I also find the service better than EJ's.
Their charcoal chicken looks a bit overcooked for me. That's the only aspect I can complain about. The meat is actually juicier than EJ's. Their garlic sauce is not as strong as EJ's but it tastes equally good. In fact I started to like it already. Will definitely come back for more.
Bottomline : Great food. Great service. Good value.
I only go to Hawa when I'm by myself or with mates, never with my EJ-loyal girlfriend. I love the hawa shish plate. I usually go the double but if I'm extra hungry I go the mixed. The plate has great variety with meat, garlic, smokey baba ganoush, hommus, zesty tabouli, pickles and bread. The perfect amount of food. Service is quick and I've never had a problem finding a table.

EJ's definitely has competition here ! I was craving charcoal chicken and usually go to EJ's but we thought we would give these guys a go ! And wow ! Quick and efficient service and so much room to move around ! The restaurant is a fantastic size and so are the meals, I got the quarter chicken (leg) meal, the meat was so delicious and full of flavour, the chicken itself was a tad small but the amount of chips, bread, garlic sauce and pickled vegetables made up for that. I can't wait to come back here again ! Looking forward to that charcoal craving !
Chose to eat here over the famous El Jannah after craving charcoal Chicken allllll day. The place is massive! And well set out. Full of people but that didn't slow down the service.
The servings were big and the food on our table within 10 mins of ordering. Their garlic wasn't to overpowering and the chicken so yum. I'll definitely be back here!!!!!
Rate it just as good as El Jannah 😊😊😊😊
Yummy skewers, charcoal chicken and garlic sauce!
Had the double platter with lamb and chicken and it was the BOMB. And the dips that came with it were so goood.
I would definitely recommend
Ah yes, the good Lebanese folk of the wild west of Sydney have fed me well. Thought I'd give El jannah a miss a try Hawa out, and boy did they deliver. Got myself a mix plate. Chicken perfect and juicy, beef and lamb just as good with blasting flavours from he lamb. I think it tops El jannah as their chicken last few visits have been left over the charcoal a little too long.
Just another chicken place in Granville? Probably not. This place is here to stay... with a massive layout, large signage across the road from it's premises and plenty of customers. This place is giving El Jannah a run for it's money.
We ordered some Falafels to start the meal. I loved them. The outer was super crunchy and the inner was full of flavours. Would have been nice to have some sauce with it though.
We ordered half a chicken and chips combo to share between the two of us. The chicken was juicy for the most part. I found the breast piece to still be quite inedible and dry but my wife thought it was better than most chicken joints. The garlic sauce wasn't as potent as El Jannah (which we love) and the only small disappointments were that there was not enough pickles and sauce.
Similar to most places, a side of chips means a large serving bowl full. The chips were cooked well, nothing special, but I would have loved it more if it had more evenly seasoned chips.
The place was so large it even had it's own cafe inside... serving Campos coffee and desserts to tickle your fancy. Personally I'd just walk down a few stores and cure my sweet cravings at El Sweetie.
The staff were nice, the food came out quick, they have bathrooms, and I didn't have to wait around for a seat... there's a lot of positives about this joint.
Overall I don't think we preferred this over El Jannah though... but if for some reason I can't get a seat there, then I'd be more than happy for the short walk to dine here.
Came to try Hawa because El Jannah is just in the too hard basket (always packed and never a table available) - yum! Chicken is better and garlic sauce amazing. Service was good and lots of tables... Give it a go!
2 blocks makes a difference. If you can be bothered walking 2 blocks down South Street to get to Hawa from El Jannah, it's worth noticing the difference. The place is much larger. There is a dedicated ordering area. There is literally acres of seating inside so I had my pick of tables that would normally seat 4. Got the 1/2 chicken meal to eat in and didn't take too long to come out. Chicken was fine and the garlic sauce was up to the expected standard - it was a substantial bowl of chips that came with the chicken (couldn't finish them). The food came out with a separate bowl with cutlery and napkins. Was a large group eating nearby and in the indoors seating area the din was incredible. However overall, still a much better eating in experience than up the road.
This is a comfort go to - cheap & delicious. Definitely worth a try if you haven't yet! The chicken can be a little inconsistent at times, but more often than not it's really good :)

Late night dinner at 10pm, if kebabs didn't exist, where else would you go but a charcoal chicken shop. Now everybody knows El Jannah's and yes their garlic sauce is famous, but their chicken is just soooo dry, no amount of garlic sauce can make up for it. I must say that if you do go, try their wraps, they are packed with flavour, while their burgers are average. Anyway, this isn't a review of El Jannah's, instead my friends and I decided we should try something new (also a few foodies recommended this place to me), so we went to Hawa. It's a "new" charcoal chicken store, in Granville, literally just 10m down the road from El Jannah's. It definitely is a bigger space than El Jannah's and the setting looks more inviting. There's even a little cafe for dessert and coffee.
The rumour has it that "Hawa" down the road from El Jannahs is the new "IT" Charcoal Chicken. It is further away from the station but there are many things I've discovered from my recent visit.

You can smell it as soon you hit the main street of Granville. That’s the scent of chicken skin charring to a smoky crisp as fat drips and sizzles onto glowing charcoal below. Endless racks of flattened chooks spin around and around on a spit. This is barbecue chicken, Lebanese-style. Garlic sauce is mandatory.
A very respectable fast food restaurant.
The staff are very busy however still acknowledge you will small talk.
Food cooked very well. The mixed plate is fairly large and can be shared with 2 people. Meat is cooked very well. Garlic sauce is very addictive.
Delicious food!. I love the charcoal chicken and chips here, neither too dry nor too moist. Reasonable price. I highly recommend others to dine here.
Love the chicken and you get better value for your money than el jannah Blacktown. I'll make the trip to Granville any day.
Yum yum yum. I can't leave this place without cleaning up my plate
Their charcoal chicken is crazy and the mixes plate is perfection
Great charcoal chicken at affordable prices. Spacious place with adequate seating. Food was tasty and portions were fine. The charcoal chicken with garlic sauce is the highlight, chips were crunchy, and went well with chicken salt. They have other dishes too and feels like an authentic experience
Hawa is a good place to meet friends or business associates. It’s quiet and spread out. You can actually have a really good conversation while snacking on the delicious food. And it’s still a pretty reasonable price.
I am always happy to visit Hawa chicken, The portion size is fantastic and very tasty. Service is fast and the staff are friendly. This time I got a double skewer plate, and as you can see amazing. Will be returning again soon I totally recommend this place.
When you want juicy chicken that isn’t burnt then you need to go to hawa
Yummy and delicious great service awesome atmosphere
Charcoal chicken here is usually juicy and they've improved their garlic sauce recently. Wish they gave more chips in the small.
I had the lamb shawarma & chicken liver roll, delicious sandwiches. A lot of care was taken into making the sandwich rolls😋. Thank you Hawa!
A really good place to have a bite of kebab. I personally like their sauce. They do it really well.
