The food and cocktails here are insanely good, my only bone to pick was the price. I will definitely be coming back for some more great food especially the chicken skin!

I visited Passage Thru Malaysia last week with my friend to have lunch. Surprisingly it such a spacious place to for group bookings. They also have private room which have a great decoration and perfect for special occasion๐Ÿ˜

Weโ€™ve ordered some of the top menu:

๐ŸŒธ Kam Heong Chicken ๐Ÿ”

๐ŸŒธ Gan Lao Mian (Yellow noodles + fried wonton + mince pork + fried shallots๐Ÿœ)

๐ŸŒธ Vegetarians Curry Mantous (My fave๐Ÿ˜)

๐ŸŒธ Nestum Prawns ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿฝ We also had surprised drinks : Berries Mocktails ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ“+ Iced Teh Tarik๐Ÿฅค๐Ÿผ

Staffs were so helpful and attentive. We had a chance to meet the owner, sheโ€™s really friendly and very kind. To be honest, most of the food taste so authentic and delicious.

We also ordered Iced Teh Tarik and Berries Mocktails for drinks. I loooove the Teh Tarik (basically is type of Malaysian iced milk tea)

It was such a great dining experience! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

I am SO glad to find a local restaurant serving up Malaysian classics. After studying in Malaysia, I often find that I am craving Nasi Lemak and Beef Rendang and now Iโ€™ve found a spot where I can find it locally!

As someone with coeliac disease, the restaurant and staff were extremely accomodating during my recent visits. I raved on about the restaurant so much, that Iโ€™ve even convinced my family to adopt Passage Thru Malaysia for takeaway too!

โœ…โœ… Big ticks in my book!

Customer service and food is top notch!

The sweetest staff passionately went through their menu with us and they all had a clear love and understanding of Malaysian food. The restaurant has a really friendly and welcoming vibe.

The menu honestly has something for everyone! We were big fans of the lemon chicken.

We will definitely return and be ordering take away.

Passage to Malaysia is located in Greensborough so we packed our cut lunch & compass to check it out.

With a large interior & special function room located inside a vault, this place is adorned with decorations & Malaysian memorabilia. Lovely owner Jerena gave us a fantastic tour & also educated us on the history of Malaysian food & cultural aspects.

We tried a selection of dishes which was quite the feast. We loved our cocktails - the ribena vodka lychee & the vodka sunrise. The squid goreng was tasty with a nice kick of chilli & the nestum prawns, in a cereal coating were something totally different. We also opted for the honey prawns, the garlic long beans & a tofu dish. The highlight for me would have to be the chicken skewers with satay sauce, I could happily eat a bucket of that delicious sauce. A large range of dishes available & an owner & team who take immense pride in their food & culture. Thanks so much for having us in.

I love that there are so many tables when you get inside, very roomy area but lots of light. The logo which is on the wall is so cute.

The hoi sin beef was melt in the mouth, so much sauce which I love as the rice really soaks it up.

My husband had the beans in garlic with mince chicken he really liked the crunch of the beans.

My highlight was the chicken satay kebabs the nutty, sweet satay chicken with the lettuce and cucumber the crunch was so yummy.

Beef curry was full of flavours and has tendon in it, i love tendons. Sambal green beans is so good with rice. Chicken roll is good for those who loves peanuts. We just smashed everything!

An enjoyable Australian restaurant with Malaysian flair is what Passage Thru Malaysia is all about, with traditional dishes and flavours presented in a modern and sharing-focused style. Favourites such as char kway teow, laksa, nasi goreng, and chicken curry can be found on their vibrantly coloured menu, whilst new items such as tapas-style roti chicken roll and salt & pepper chicken sliders are on offer.

The balance of flavours and slightly spicy kick are suitable more for the Australian palate, whilst those who prefer more spicy heat in their food may need to request this upon ordering.

The venue is a pride-filled ode to traditional Malaysian culture, with many Malaysian-imported trinkets and home wares dispersed throughout the venue, providing a background narrative to the dining experience that customers are there for.

A great restaurant to visit if you enjoy eating international cuisines, with your palate being taken on an adventure through Malaysia without straying you too far from the unfamiliar Australian-loving territory. Staff are friendly and accommodating, and the venue space itself is very spacious and comfortable, complete with a private function room and family-friendly nappy-changing area, both of which have been converted from the original bank vaults that used to occupy this prior bank location.

First time here after reading the good reviews and as typical Malaysians we have to โ€˜recceโ€™ as part of our roaming heritage and genetics of finding tastier pastures. Needless to say the four of us found an excellent feed! Jerena was great in recommending dishes. Tapas you MUST order. Hats off for you for innovation and tasty!! Rendang a must have too. Hey, I love the Lat cartoons on the wall. I have books of it at home !! And the priceless vintage ice kacang machine on display too. Like someone said โ€œI will be back!โ€

First time visiting this restaurant which has been on my list of places to go for a while!Took a friend who was just as hungry as me so we could order a great variety of dishes! I was definitely surprised by all the choice on the menu that it took me a while to pick only four dishes. This restaurant is the ideal place to go to with a group of friends so you can all try a bit of everything. The four dishes we ordered are; honey chicken, hokkien noodles, Nasi lemak with fried chicken, and beef rendang curry with roti. Was amazed at how quickly all the food came out and the portions were very generous. The honey chicken had a great sweetness, hokkin noodles were very tasty and the fried chicken was very tender that it teared straight off the bone. My favourite was the beef rendang which had a nice level of spice and the beef was very soft. We also ordered some mocktails, pineapple lemonade with actual pineapple pieces on top and a virgin sunrise. The interior is also a lovely aspect of this restaurant with paper cranes and decorations hanging from the ceiling. Everything about this restaurant is very colourful and itโ€™s a great atmosphere to have a delicious meal.

Passage Thru Malaysia

We both love Malaysian food and this restaurant definitely satisfied our Malaysian cuisine cravings. This place is so intricately decorated with touches of Malaysian heritage and history, all their dรฉcor can tell you stories about life in Malaysia. The food here was absolutely amazing and loved the staff here as they were enthusiastic and did a great job recommending us food.

DRINKS

Blushing Syrup
Whisky Gentlemen Sour

We started off with a few drinks and they were so pretty, fruity and delicious!!

FOOD

Salt + Pepper Chicken Sliders
The buns here were so soft and crispy on the outside, the chicken was flavourful and delicious.

Beef Rendang Nasi Lemak
Flavourful Nasi Lemak with all the flavour profiles ticked off for this iconic Malaysian dish.

Roti Prawn Rolls
Roti Prawn rolls were fresh and a creative twist to eating roti.

Crispy Mantou + Curry Chicken
These crispy mantous definitely wonโ€™t disappoint anyone as they are super crispy and they are something that got me craving continuously ever since we have dined here!

Sambal Green Beans
Amazing Sambal flavour in these green beans. Absolutely killed it!

Overall a great Malaysian cuisine restaurant that also does a few creative dishes that wonโ€™t disappoint you whether you are craving Malaysian food or not.

I was excited to finally visit Passage Thru Malaysia yesterday after seeing it pop up all over Instagram.

After the long drive to get there, we were absolutely starving when we arrived. The owner chatted away with us and was absolutely lovely. She even took us around the restaurant and highlighted the traditional artefacts that were placed throughout to showcase Malaysian culture. It was interesting as I've never come across a restaurant like this that places so much emphasis on the decor being cultural. The restaurant itself is very spacious and in a great location right on Main Street. The menu is very extensive, but if you can't decide, the staff will definitely help you with recommendations.

We ordered the Salt & Pepper Chicken Slider, Squid Goreng, Veg Curry + Mantou, Lemon Fish, Mapo Tofu, Syrup Lemonade and cold Teh Tarik.

My partner and I agreed that our highlight was definitely the lemon fish. The sauce was so tasty and had the perfect amount of sweetness. The chicken slider was tasty as well but we would have preferred if the slider bun was soft and not crunchy. It also could have more chicken. We agreed we have previously tried more flavourful versions of the other dishes aswell.

Overall, Passage Thru Malaysia is worth a visit to meet with the super friendly team and learn a bit about Malaysian culture!

Hands down the most amazing Malaysian food and the best staff, from start to finish enjoyed our visit and that 3 Cup Squid and Sambal Chicken...... OMG!!

Only down point was that we ordered 2 of the Valentines day Cocktails and were given the wrong one, still tasted great but small blip in the radar.

Our eyes were too big for our stomachs, ordered a touch too much but it was worth the food baby I was sporting when I left.

Iโ€™ve been wanting to try Passage Thru Malaysia for ages as everyone raves about it.
The hospitality was incredible and it has such a beautiful energy!
Itโ€™s spacious and colourful, has a private room at the back for parties or groups and a fun kids play area.
We started with some lychee cocktails which were really tasty and refreshing.
The shh chicken is so crunchy and delicious, loved the roti with peanut sauce and the chicken sliders are substantial. Really enjoyed the tofu and save room for some ice cream (they serve some yummy flavours).
You can BYO wine too!
Definitely need to visit again when Iโ€™m back in the Greensborough area! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Finally visited this amazing restaurant located in Greensborough which happens to be really famous for their authentic Malaysian food. The place was packed even on a weekday so you can only assume how busy it gets on the weekends!

-Here is some of the food we tried and recommend:
โ€ขCrispy Shhh Chicken: This is a really addicting appetiser! It consisted of deep fried chicken skin seasoned with some spices, curry leaves and chilli. Move away potato chips - this is what we are bingeing on!

โ€ขCurry Chicken Mantou: 4 Chinese milk buns served with some classic chicken curry. Even though the highlight is the gravy, I also enjoyed eating the drumettes that were cooked to perfection. The buns were sweet with a crusty outside.

โ€ขLemon Prawns: Crunchy and juicy prawns loaded with a zesty and citrusy lemon sauce. The lemon sauce was on the sweeter side and we are not used to having sweet prawns but we enjoyed this dish nevertheless!

โ€ขMamak Mee Goreng: This was the favourite of the night! An Indian influence noodle with generous servings of prawn, chicken, tofu and fish cakes. This stir fried noodles along with the special Malay paste was devoured and we wish there was more, hehe :)

-We also took a couple of mocktails to wash down the delicious food. The owner Jerena is very friendly and passionate about the food that is served at Passage thru Malaysia. She guided us to make the best choices and would be the best person to ask if you are confused about what to order. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will definitely visit again in the future, it was worth the long journey!

The atmosphere is also really trendy with cute little nods to culture around the place. The service was also really great! They are so attentive and you can tell they have a passion for food. We ordered Black Bean Beef with noodles, Roti Chicken Rolls, Roti and Beef Rendang, Lemon Chicken, Satay Chicken and Crispy Wantons. I highly recommend this restaurant! Iโ€™m going to make this review short & sweet! But WOWOW did I love this place. The food options were countless and the staff were absolutely amazing.

What we ordered:
Roti roll w/ chicken
Chicken Sliders
Lemon Chicken
Salt and Pepper tofu

Ok these entrees were fab-u-lous! Booming with flavour and just out right a delight. The roti roll was somewhat like a salad wrapped in roti and the sliders were topped with a deliciously thick peanut filled satay sauce. As for the mains the lemon chicken had a sweet and sticky sauce that was just the right amount whereas the salt and pepper tofu was topped with some damn amazing herbs and spices!

Iโ€™ll be back!๐Ÿ˜ƒ

When Chinese migrants intermarried with Malay locals back in the day and the beautiful culture that emerged from this fusion came to be known as the Baba Nyonya Culture.
Baba referring to men and Nyonya their women. Their food is predominantly tangy , a bit spicy, herbal and sweet and that marriage of taste is what I exactly experienced at @passagethrumalaysia
๐ŸŽŽ๐ŸŽŽ๐ŸŽŽ๐ŸŽŽ๐ŸŽŽ๐ŸŽŽ๐ŸŽŽ๐ŸŽŽ๐ŸŽŽ๐ŸŽŽ๐ŸŽŽ๐ŸŽŽ A bit cheeky, and a bit traditional in their flavours... Jerena the owner of Passage Thru Malaysia talked to me about how she misses her home town in Kuala Lumpur for its food. She gave me an insight on how the three major influences of Indian, Chinese and Malay culture makes it unique and how they have combined the beauty of each cuisine to weave in to their own. ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ…
Winner of 3 Awards at the Banyule City Council Business Awards in 2018 for Best New Comer, Top 3 Finalists for Best Business in Banyule and the Most Voted Business of the Year,, and these accolades to be rewarded in just nine months of your business is definitely a huge achievement..
Talking to Jerena about this and the passion in her eyes completely described why they are deserving winners nominated all through the local community.

Passage Thru Malaysia was a bit of a distance to drive from me, but I heard many good things about this place, so I decided to visit them.
The moment we were warmly welcomed by Jasmine, that distance hesitation quickly faded away. She gave us a little tour about the background stories of the restaurant, then showed us some ancient traditional cooking tools and showed us their private dining room that was transformed from what was originally a bank vault. Pretty cool, isnโ€™t it?

They have a โ€œbeach partyโ€ set up at the front where you can book a table there during summer time and have some Malaysian tapas and chill out with your mates, have some fun, take funny selfies, go nuts!

We ordered a few dishes; Roti Chicken Roll, Chicken Shhh, Beef Rendang Nasi Lemak, Char Kway Teow and their new dish, Sweet and Sour Rockling Fish Fillets.

If you love Chicken Satay, Roti Channai and wraps, then their Roti Chicken Wrap is all those combined. Best enjoyed by the handful :)

Their Chicken Shhh is definitely my favourite dish here! Crispy fried and flavoursome chicken skin done well, an absolute winner!

The beef rendang in their Nasi Lemak was deliciously tender and packed with flavours. Thatโ€™s one good enough reason for me to reorder their Nasi Lemak next time.

Their Char Kway Teow was quite authentic and generously served. The Sweet & Sour Fish Fillets reminded me of a sweet and sour pork/chicken dish. So if you love sweet and sour dishes, but want to try something different, this is the dish for you.

It is breath-taking to find a Malaysian restaurant with such passionate, fun and culturally knowledgeable owners.
Jerena, Jasmine and their staff have done it well.

Last week we visited Passage Thru Malaysia; an authentic Malaysian restaurant located in the heart of Greensborough Plaza. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the lovely owner Jerena who immediately made us feel comfortable with her warm and welcoming nature. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and has a great atmosphere which can be felt as soon as you walk through the door! We ordered an assortment of dishes as recommended by Jerena and 2 drinks, all of which were brought out quickly and efficiently.

We ordered the Squid Goreng, Sweet and Sour Pork, Green Bean Sambal, Salt and Pepper Chicken Slider, the Roti and Veg Curry and some coconut rice on the side.

The sweet and sour pork was so succulent, flavourful and was coated in plenty of sauce leaving us licking our fingers! The salt and pepper chicken slider was also amazing. The sweetness of the bread was perfectly balanced by the flavour of the chicken. We were definitely left wanting more! The green bean sambal was a dish that we had never tried before but were pleasantly surprised! It was packed full of flavour and spice and all the veggies were cooked perfectly with just enough crunch! The Roti and Veg Curry was super tasty and wasnโ€™t too overpowering. It was beautifully light and creamy with a subtle coconut flavour and the tofu was cooked to perfection! The roti, which was super buttery and flaky, and coconut rice which was beautifully cooked and well balanced, worked together as the perfect accompaniment to the curry!

Overall the food was wonderful, and our experience was made even better by Jerenaโ€™s great service. We canโ€™t wait to come back to try more of the menu!

This little restaurant is an absolute gem located in the town of Greensborough! The absolute best atmosphere with some absolutely delicious Malaysian food! Besides the fact that it is already cool enough with little Malaysian trinkets used to decorate the whole area, this place takes on a whole new level of cool as it is located inside an old bank and has a private dining room inside an old bank vault!!!
Jerena, the owner, will make you feel like family and ensure you and your group are looked after!
As for the food, it is absolutely delicious!!! A modern take on Malaysian food with the taste of a nice home cooked meal made by your Malaysian family members. The chicken rolls are absolutely a must try!! As well as the fried mantou buns.
This place should be at the top of your restaurant bucket list- everyone needs to experience this!!

I visited this lovely restaurant awhile back and coming from Malaysia, I had high expectation of their Malaysian food. Upon entering the premise, I was greeted with warmth by the lovely owner Jerena. Being a Malaysian herself, she truly showcased true Malaysian hospitality.

I tried their various gastronomical Malaysian dishes and I was flabbergasted at the sheer amount of food and dedication put into the food. They even had vegan food which was really thoughtful for all our vegan friends out there. Even I was almost convinced to go vegan after trying their delicious fried tofu!

Upon tasting their curry, I absolutely loved it. They even had fried mantou (fried baos) to go with the curry and I just had to keep going back for more. I remember seeing heaps of food on the table and just as how you would be served at home in Malaysia, Jerena definitely made sure we were well fed๐Ÿ˜‚

I also find it cool that this restaurant has an old bank vault which is now used as a function room. Itโ€™s such a cool place to hold an event or party as it can easily accommodate many people. This place is definitely spacious with ample seating and if youโ€™re lucky, you might be able to catch the decoration of the season!

Overall, this is a lovely place to visit and definitely pop by for some authentic Malaysian cuisine!

Coconut rice - soft coconut scented rice

Wow what an experience! Passage Thru Malaysia, located in Main St. Greensborough has a cool vibe, a relaxing atmosphere, with very friendly staff.

I had the pleasure of meeting the owner Jerena, whom was very welcoming and gave me a tour of the restaurant. I got to see the โ€œVaultโ€ room, which is the event room and it looked fantastic.

The food here is so delicious! I enjoyed everything I ate. If I had to pick my favourite dish, it would be the mantou buns, which I soaked in the delicious chicken curry and savoured till the last bite.

Another favourite I have to mention was the Salt and Pepper Tofu, it was very flavoursome, and a great option for vegetarians. The ingredients were so tasty.

I am grateful that this place is local, and I canโ€™t wait to revisit.

Passage thru Malaysia as the name speaks for itself, it's a place where you can feel being transported to the local Malaysian eateries with lots of tasty affordable food and snacks. Located at the heart of Greensborough right across the Plaza, this place is easily recognised with its iconic 3 cartoons representing 3 major races in Malaysia being Malay' Chinese and Indian. And therefore they have a huge range of selections from these 3 backgrounds.
Apart from the usual suspects of Malaysian staples such as mee goreng, laksa, nasi lemak and char kuey teow, we are pampered with lots of other varieties from mains and sides. To me it's highly recommended to try their tapas choices if you love something bit more varieties to share with your mates.
We had the chicken roti rolls, nestum cereals prawn, veggie curry mantou, beef rendang with roti, shrimp paste fried rice and cantonese eggplant.
Definitely worth the trip up north and would love to be back anytime soon.

I haven't had good Malaysian food in some time so it was time to visit Passage Thru Malaysia for some authentic food.

Starting w a mocktail called "Blushing Syrup" this drink was rose water, soda, lychee juice and blueberries.

My mocktail was really good, surprisingly as I don't often try mocktails lol. The rose water was mild and not too sweet. Yummy.

The food was plentiful and the menu extensive. I tried a lot of different dishes with other people so I will mention some of the highlights.

Initially I tried a signature roti chicken roll tapas and this was delicious. It was roti and chicken, lettuce, cucumber, tomato and 2 different peanut sauces. Whoa!

The next tapa was a Netsum
Prawn dish which was one of my favourites. It was prawns coated in crunchy cereal prawn. I really enjoyed the texture and flavours of this dish.

Then I tried a vegan curry mantou which was a Chinese bun and an accompanying vegetable curry. This was very good too and the curry had some kick lol.

The roti and beef rendang was perfect. I could have eaten this all day, the meat was quite tender and the curry sauce packed a slight punch which was great. The owner did say that the dishes have less spice so we ordered fresh chilli. Not that I needed too much hahaha.

The Cantonese stir fry egg plant was another favourite and it came with capsicum, bamboo shoots, carrot, spring onions and of course eggplant. All the flavours worked so well in this vegan dish, and it had some spice, and the texture was great.

And finally we had some Mamak Nasi Goreng which was Indian fried rice, chicken, crispy anchovies, shrimps and tofu. This was delicious and full of flavour for such a simple dish. The chicken was really well cooked, and this was some of the best fried rice I've ever eaten.

Overall I had a great time. All the items in this restaurant were imported from Malaysia and they were quite unique.

There are soo many dishes to try here so I'd be happy to go back again as I had a great time. The food was excellent, and the variety of flavours, including vegan options was well received.

Thanks to a fellow blogger who was invited and asked me to visit this restaurant with them.

The restaurant looked absolutely lovely. The origami hanging from the ceiling and the pictures on the wall really made the whole place look welcoming. The staff were very friendly and helpful with choosing the menu items that would best suit your needs. The volt room is stunning and highly recommend trying to book it if you have 6 or more guests as it is a special place to dine in. The food was wholesome and flavoursome. The dishes were all packed with flavour and the rice and noodle dishes were very generous in size. The Mamak Nasi Goreng was a stand out dish. The flavour of the rice were delicious and every mouthful was incredible! This is definitely a dish I recommend getting! The Vegan sliders were also a standout! the bun was so crispy on the outside with a sift and fluffy inside. The tofu was also flavoured really nicely and the sauce added so much flavour. Wish I had order more of these! The cocktails were delicious! you could really taste the lychee in them and the Lychee Moscato looked so pretty as well. This restaurant is good for sharing so you can try a larger variety of dishes in one meal.

Authentic Malaysian with a Touch of Tapas

๐Ÿ“Located in the centre of town in Greensborough, this was an absolute hike for me to get to. After almost an hours drive, we were absolutely starving and so excited for the Malaysian Tapas that PTM offers.

๐Ÿ’ญThe menu has just been updated to include some exciting new options. The dish that I was most excited for was the CHICKEN SATAY ROTI ROLL. Such an incredible invention of two favourites of mine. I can confirm that this dish was the absolute highlight for me. It did not disappoint and I loved every bite. Unfortunately there were so many big groups dining on the night we ate, so there was a bit of a weight on the food. However, in the mean time we received a wonderful tour of the restaurant. It felt like a walk through history as we learnt so much about traditional Malaysian cultures. The restaurant is filled with items that have been save and brought back from Malaysia. Hanging from the roof were paper cranes and lanterns. It all created such an authentic and wonderful vibe.

๐ŸŒŸThe Fit Hitโ€™s Tip โ€“ Definitely ensure you order plenty of rice. These dishes are RICH (make that word bold, underline, italic) it is really, really rich. Rice was absolutely necessary so that you could really savour the flavours rather than be blown away and done too soon.

๐Ÿ’›One of the things I absolutely loved about PTM was their menu. I canโ€™t remember every enjoying reading a menu so much.. the personal touches were fantastic and a true testament towards the care and passion put into this restaurant by the owner. If youโ€™re visiting here, make sure to take some time to appreciate the descriptions and illustrations.

We were invited to this restaurant for lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant is very spacious and clean and beautifully decorated. I loved the nostalgic Malaysian icons peppered throughout the restaurant which gave it a nice homely touch. The owners are proud of their country and what makes them Malaysian and have reflected themselves in the place.
We were seated immediately and greeted by one of the owners, Jasmine. She gave us food recommendations and then brought us around to show us the restaurant. There is a back room which is perfect for private dining and events. The restaurant is child-friendly and has a area for parking prams too. I also loved that the menu caters to vegans, vegetarians and people with gluten intolerance.
We ordered the roti wraps, the belachan fried rice, the Nestum prawns and the nasi lemak with beef rendang. For drinks we ordered teh tarik. The roti was flaky and nicely toasted and packed full of fresh veggies. The peanut sauce gave it a nice balance. The Nestum prawns was packed with Nestum and curry leaves. The prawns were bursty and fresh. The nasi lemak has got to be one of the best nasi lemaks we have had. Firstly it was beautifully plated, secondly all of the elements on the plate complimented each other with the different layers of textures and flavours. The only thing which could be improved was that the meat was a little sinewy (chewy). Otherwise we were very happy with the dish. I was very happy with my belachan fried rice which was fried well (each grain of rice was separate) and had a nice kick of belachan to it. We washed it down with teh tarik which was not overly sweet.
I observed some customers being a little difficult when ordering food (they wanted variations to the food and didnโ€™t want to eat things like chicken with bones or skin) and Jasmine and her staff were very accomodating and polite and dealt with the customers well.
I highly recommend this place for great food and service. Thank you Passage Thru Malaysia for your generosity.

Visited Passage Thru Malaysia in Greensborough multiple times now and let me tell you you will not be disappointed. Their are many thinks to love about this restaurant.

ATMOSPHERE:
SOOO cute and authentic! From the minute you walk in youโ€™re immediately transported to Malaysia, for someone like me who has been to Malaysia it makes me so happy how similar their restaurantโ€™s decor is to the real thing. Love their paper cranes that hang from the roof.

FOOD:
Obviously visiting multiple times, I have tried a wide variety of PTM dishes. Some of my stand out dishes include the curry mantous OMG, the best dish on the menu!!! Other dishes include Char Kway Teow, Salted egg ribs, Roti Roll and Nasi Lamak.

I love so many things about this restaurant, especially the owner Jerena who is extremely inviting, friendly and always has a smile on her face. The atmosphere makes me HAPPY as Malaysia holds such a special place in my heart. The food is genuine and delicious. If you are in the area you should absolutely give this restaurant a go!

Passage through Malaysia have just released their NEW MENU ๐Ÿ˜‹
This Malaysian owned restaurant has all the Malaysian classics: chicken curry, nasi lemak, beef rendang (absolutely delicious), laksa and so much more! If you're feeling adventurous try out their popular tapas like the roti chicken roll. ๐Ÿ˜

We also loved the ManTao buns - crispy and golden on the outside, fluffy inside and slightly sweet, makes it a perfect pairing with any curry. ๐Ÿธ๐ŸนThey also have a great list of mocktails, cocktails (we love the lychee based ones) and traditional drinks like teh tarik (Malaysian milk tea), something to suit anyone and any occasion.

The restaurant is decked out in cute Malaysian decor to give it an awesome vibe and they have a function room that can hold a private birthday or celebration too.

As a fellow Malaysian I can safely say that their menu is legit and will definitely be coming back

Had an amazing Malaysian cultural experience at Passage Thru Malaysia! The passionate and kind owners showed us around and we learnt a lot about Malaysian history. All the food were big portions, so delicious and experimental. The salt and pepper tofu was my fave and the drinks were tasty too. The event room is so cute and would be great for an intimate party! We were so happy to finally visit this beautiful Malaysian restaurant, here are our impressions about our experience.
*Location: Easy to get there by car or by train, just a few minutes walk from Greensborough station.
*Ambience: The restaurant is beautifully decorated and there is so much seating space, they even have a room called The Vault, that is literally a vault, where you can book functions. Almost everything you see was brought from Malaysia, what gives a nice touch to the place.
*Service: The staff is extremely friendly and happy to explain everything about the food, it was a pleasure to meet the owner who took us through the restaurant and showed us the gorgeous space they have there.
*Food: Every dish looks so delicious and it is very well presented, you can see the love they put into it. The flavours are amazing, our favourite was the chicken curry with chinese buns and the best part is to dip them into the sauce. Another highlight was the salt and pepper tofu, so crispy outside and also very well seasoned.
*Price: The portion sizes are very good, we shared everything between two people and we were very satisfied by the end. I think 3 or 4 dishes between a couple are enough, depending on how hungry you are of course.

Passage Thu Malaysia has been on my radar for some time and how lucky was I to have visited recently! This is such a gorgeous restaurant that is traditional yet modern at the same time.  Jerena gave us a mini tour and history lesson on Malaysia which I appreciated and really enjoyed.

The menu here is great! We ordered a selection of things which included the mamak nasi goreng, curry chicken mantou, roti chicken roll, crispy shhh chicken and the beef rendang.   I finally got to try the beef rendang and it was beautiful! I loved the richness of the curry and the beef was so nice and tender.  I also loved the curry chicken mantou as I have never had this before and I loved the sweetness of the bread, when it was dipped into the curry it was such a tasty mouthful! The curry had a nice spice to it and I absolutely loved it.  The nasi goreng, shhh chicken and chicken roti rolls were also very nice.

There is a cute function room too which I loved, perfect for that special occasion.  I absolutely love this restaurant, the food and service were just fantastic.  Thank you for the invite, it was such a great visit.

Passage Thru Malaysia was a bit far to drive from the Melbourne CBD, but it was well worth it! We were in need for some filling, tasty and comfort food and we found it here!

The place serves authentic Malaysian food and the owners really placed a lot of effort into designing the decor of the restaurant. There were a lot of items brought over from Malaysia such as tea pots, cups, plates, and various malaysia interesting pieces on display. They have a private party room decorated with a yellow and green theme. There were many hanging origami paper cranes and fish, which were hand-made by the owner herself.

The restaurant is very big and spacious so you can even do a tour and check out all the interesting things on display!

We ordered some drinks and I got the teh tarik (how can you not!?) and it was so creamy, hot and so delicious.

We came in a group of 4 and were all salivating at the descriptions of the dishes, so here's what we got:

1. Nestum prawn - crunchy cereal prawn - This is my favourite dish! I love the sweet and savoury taste of the malty nestum cereal on the prawns. I just want to eat the cereal by the spoon as it's that tasty!

2. Crispy Shh* Chicken - This one is fried chicken skin, not really my preference as it is a bit too salty for me. It is very crispy and my fellow foodies loved it though.

3. Kopitiam chicken curry with mantou - This was really nice! The mantou was fried and golden - it was crunchy with fluffiness on the inside. It soaked up the chicken curry and tasted really nice. The only downside is that there's not enough to go around haha. Everyone loved this dish.

4. Salt and Pepper tofu - tofu cubes, spring onions and capsicum - this one was a dish my family always orders so it's popular and nice.

5. Salted egg chicken ribs - curry leaves, spring onions, capsicum, salted duck egg yolk, crispy chicken ribs - First time I've tried the salted egg with chicken ribs. I usually get it with the prawns which brings out the flavours more. Still prefer the prawns as the chicken ribs didn't really absorb the salted egg flavour as well. The salted egg flavour remains on the plate were really good though.

6. Lemon prawns - Usually we get the lemon chicken so it was different to get lemon prawns with the tangy, sticky and sweet lemon sauce drizzled all over the crispy king prawns. Something different (and still prefer the lemon chicken more haha).

7. Belacan fried rice - shrimp paste, assorted veg and chicken - Ever since from uni, this was one of my favourite rice dishes and it was so tasty that I can just eat the whole plate!

Overall, the food was really good, filling and we realised we ordered a bit too much meat/fried/not enough veggies. But sometimes it's ok not to make friends with salad when the meat is this goood. Thanks for a satisfying meal, Passage Thru Malaysia. We were all full and rolled home.

Visiting Passage Thru Malaysia is like visiting a Malaysian home, with beautiful, authentic cuisine and an atmosphere that is instantly welcoming. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and given a brief history of the restaurant and what they are hoping to achieve.

Sharing their heritage is key, and there are beautiful artefacts and artworks all around the large space; showcasing the cultural history through the decor and food. Hundreds of handmade paper cranes and fish hang from the ceiling, adding a heartfelt touch to the space. The restaurant was a bank in a previous incarnation, and now the old vault is used for private functions, and is beautifully decorated with it's tropical themed wallpaper and touches of pink and black.

I was intrigued to try this cuisine. Described as a mix of Chinese, Indian and Malaysian flavours, the menu looked amazing. Starting with some fun cocktails, we then moved onto the chicken roti wraps which were absolutely divine. The roti was crispy and flaky, and the chicken was juicy and flavoursome. I've never had this before and it was delicious.

We also chose salt and pepper tofu which was superb. Crispy tofu pieces with a spicy seasoning and topping, which was out of this world. The texture and flavour combination was perfect. We were recommended the butter prawns, which were totally different to the usual Indian style butter curry. This sauce was spicy, but sweet and really lovely. The prawns were amazing, and our side of greens added that extra bit of freshness to our meal. We also tried the traditional, fluffy rolls which were unlike anything I've had before. Super crunchy on the outside, with a soft and sweet dough... I could easily have eaten a dozen, if I had any room left.

With exceptional service and ambience, and outstanding food, Passage Thru Malaysia ticks all the boxes for a wonderful dining experience. However, what it has over many other venues is the heart that has been poured into this place. You can really tell that the staff love sharing their food and culture with their patrons, and this instantly makes you feel at home.

Thank you for hosting us.

4 Points for: legit flavours, clean and spacious restaurant

The locals around Greensborough are quite lucky to have such an authentic team at Passage Thru Malaysia. The menu is quite extensive with some classics like beef rendang, chicken curry, nasi lemak and char kway teow.

โ€ข Curry Chicken Mantou โ€“ The fluffy white buns are deep fried, giving it a nice crisp coating. Pull it apart and dip it in the curry chicken. One of the best curry chickens Iโ€™ve had, itโ€™s coconutty, mildly spicy, rich and flavoursome.

โ€ข Nestum Prawns โ€“ Admittedly Iโ€™m new to this dish, but itโ€™s common in Malaysia and the region. The prawns are coated with nestum cereal which give it a malty flavour and crunch.

โ€ข Butter Chicken โ€“ Another dish new to me, and itโ€™s not the Indian butter chicken. The sauce is made with a little condensed milk, so it has a sweet savoury flavour. Chicken pieces are breaded and deep fried, then coated with the thick sauce. Personally, not one of my favourites because of the condensed milk flavour, a little sweet for me.

โ€ข Gan Lao Mian โ€“ Love the combination of savoury salty crisp anchovies and minced pork. Topped with crispy wontons, itโ€™s a hearty comfort dish.

A lot of the dishes I chose had some sort of deep fried element โ€“ in hindsight I probably should have balanced it out with some veggies. The service team are very friendly. If youโ€™re around the area, you canโ€™t go wrong with the classics, there are some cracking curries.

At the time of writing (Sep 2019), the restaurant has a 4.9. Quite high, but just set your expectations, as Zomato scoring is hardly reliable these days.

ORDER: The food quality was outstanding, each dish bearing it's own unique flavour. The highlights of the meal were the roti chicken roll, butter prawn, squid goreng, char kway teow and curry chicken with mantou. The pricing is also decent, we ordered a large number of dishes but were very surprised by how cheap the bill was.

SERVICE: The staff here are top notch, everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. From the moment we sat down, the staff walked us through the menu and pointed out some of the signature dishes. They regularly checked up on us and would refill our water without asking.

AMBIENCE: The restaurant itself is quite spacious and well lit. We booked The Vault, which was beautifully decorated and gave our group some privacy, a nice change from a typical packed restaurant.

WOWWW where do I start.
When I give these guys 5 stars, I kinda wished that I could give them more!

Jerena, one of the owners warmly welcomed us, she was so friendly it felt like she was bringing us into her house, so warm and lovely. She showed us through the menu and explained where all the dishes come from and their idea behind most.

Food -
Chicken Roti Roll - one of my favourite dishes, I loved how fresh it was and the combination of roti and two different types of peanut sauces ๐Ÿฅœ
Crispy Shhhh chicken - addictive, extra crispy coated in delicious spices
Kopitam Chicken curry with Mantous - loved the sweet / savoury combo and the Chinese buns were so soft
Nasi Lemak Chicken Curry - loves the flavours of this dish and the combination of egg, cucumber and rice
Vegetarian curry laksa - Iโ€™m a big laksa lover and this one certainly did not disappoint, the flavours were delicious and I loved the choice of veggies, tofu and combo of noodles
Roti - literally goes with everything and such a good addition to all of the dishes, compliments them all well.
Drinks -
Ribena lychee mocktail
Soooo delicious I love love love lychee and this was a great refreshment for the meal - next time Iโ€™m definitely having the cocktail version ๐Ÿ˜

Itโ€™s really interesting to hear the influence of Indian, Chinese and Malaysian cultures throughout the different dishes and flavours.
There are also trinkets and photos placed around the restaurant that she brings back from Malaysia every time she goes, its such a nice addition and really shows off the beautiful authentic culture and traditions.

Down the back of the restaurant, there is a secret vault (from the old bank) which has been turned into a private room, you can book it out free of charge with friends or family for casual dining or a special occasion - what a great idea.

I had previously heard so many good things about the staff, atmosphere and the food and they certainly exceeded expectations!!! I have already suggested Passage Thru Malaysia to friends and family and I canโ€™t wait to go back!!!! โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

Located in Greensborough, Passage Thru Malaysia is a nice and spacious restaurant with a welcoming feel. It has been opened for 14 months and within that time they received quite a few awards. We received a lovely tour of the restaurant and was shown the amazing artwork on the walls and what they represent. There is a room in the back which is a bank vault as the building was a old bank building in the past. They are very passionate about their food and culture. When it became time to order our dinner, Miss J showed us through the menu and explained what each dish was. We decided for the Tapas - Curry Chicken Mantou and Squid Goreng. We chose the Belacan Fried Rice from the Specials. And Salted Egg Prawns and Mee Siam from the Bigger Plate. For some tasty drinks we chose the Whiskey Lemonade Honey and the Apple Vodka Sparkling. It was a delicious Tuesday night dinner and we loved how all the dishes went with each other. The drinks were a great hit too.

All of our opinions are genuine and are based on our experience at the time of our visit.

We tried so many things and we must admit that the Beef Rendang and the Nasi Lemak with fried chicken were the ones that still make our mouths salivating even thinking about them.

The venue is also quite big and you will definitely have a lot of fun booking your next function here. They even have a special room that is like a vault for your private functions.

Service is so welcoming and warm. You can always trust the waiters to recommend some of the dishes. They are so helpful and accommodating.
