Review Mehek Indian Restaurant - Greensborough

Raeanne McLean
Lovely tasty meal with friendly staff and quick service. The lamb in spinach was delish. Don't let the decor deter you. Will be back!
Rachel McLean
Delicious food, lovely service and quick too! Will make it our go to Indian. Definitely recommend the butter chicken and garlic naan.

We were very disappointed with our meal as well as the service from Mehak. Ordered for a 6.20pm delivery which was then changed to 6.40pm after ordering and was delivered some time after 7pm. The onion bhaji's were cold. One of the curry's was swimming in water (see photo), the other two curry's did not taste nice and were thrown away. The naan bread was rock solid and the rice was soggy. We called up the restaurant to provide them an opportunity to rectify this matter and they said they would send a text message with an offer of compensation. We received no text message so we complained to Menulog who we booked the meal through and they said the restaurant wanted to offer us $20 off a further meal with them. We explained we would never eat there again and wanted a full refund which Menulog then provided.

Amazing food! We keep coming back for more. Awesome range of Vegan and Gluten-Free options as well. Love it!

Ordered butter chicken and lamb coconut for take away.. it was very delicious and as per the spicy level requested . Along with the redolent food, we had some soft and toothsome garlic naan and cheese naan. the food was in good quantity as well as the quality expectations . will love to try some other currys as well. Thanks for the good food.

I have nothing but praise for Mehek Greensborough..I eat their food at least 3 times a week. Sometimes I call ahead and pick up the food on the way home, sometimes I order thru uberEats.. either way the service is always fast, friendly and on time. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Best Indian ever. Would never go anywhere else. We love the garlic Naan, cheese naan, rice and daal. Big portions so the price isn’t too bad

Authentic and exquisite flavours, perfect balance, hands down the best Indian cuisine I’ve experienced in Melbourne for a decade every time! Lovely warm service too, loads of gluten free options. A gem indeed!

Best Indian food for miles and I have been to a lot
Alex Wilkins
A great restaurant with service as delectable as the food!!! 5/5 would dine again :D

Not up to standards, all dished lacked protein. You will find better elsewhere.
Tandoori plater very below par no sauce with it.

Delicious aloo gobhi, masala eggplant, lemon and coconut rice and roti on the separate vegan menu! Unfortunately not a huge fan of their aloo tikki or vegetable pakora. I'll come back and try more things. I'd love to see a mushroom curry and vegan butter chicken! (maybe with Gardein chicken and coconut nuttelex to replace chicken and butter) I'd also love to see coconut chutneys on the menu.

Edit I forgot to mention, I asked for a diet coke with no straw but she still gave me a straw :(

Good food, reasonable pricing. One of the best #ButterChicken I’ve had in Melbourne. Don’t forget to mention make it “spicy” otherwise most of the curries can be a bit bland sometimes. Would definitely recommend it for takeaway. The ambience could’ve been better for dine in.

Ordered the lamb Rogan Josh Generous serves and tasty curry. Samosas were a good size. May need some more spice in the potatoes. Overall great value for money, we will be back.

We recently moved to here from New Zealand.

Visited this lovely restaurant for the first time. One of the greatest experience. Fresh food, amazing taste and good value.

They have plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Dal tadka is recommended. lovely service. This will be our favorite from now on

At first impressions, restaurant seemed clean and nice smelling, a very kind and pleasant receptionist, ordered some Rogan Josh for take away, which was not too bad in flavour & ordered to spice level request, however not the most fragrant that I have tried I(gravy was a little ordinary not so tomato based), and a vegetable saffron rice, which was a tad overcooked, dry & lacking in seasoning, overall not too bad for a takeaway dinner, maybe lacking slightly in quality, might try something different one more time just to see if there might be a difference...thank - you for the experience

One of the best Indian restaurants we've been. Great food. Nice flavors. Highly recommended.
Garlic Chilli Chicken and Goat vindaloo are the best. Don't forget the Cheese and Garlic naans.
These guys are great.. keep it up

Had a great time with family. wonderful music and quick service. Butter chicken and naan was fingerlickingly delicious as usual. definately would recommend and come back as well.
Josh
Great food...entree dish the naan n curries were great too and upto the spice level requested. a first visit but surely not the last one. thank you

Disappointing at best. The tandoori chicken was still raw on the bone. The Dahl was watery. The other curries all lacked flavour. The best part of the meal was the naan bread. The rice seemed like it was cooked yesterday.

Definitely a one visit restaurant. Place could use a cleaning and some paint too.
BasicReview
After dining here it explained why we were the only people in the restaurant. The food was nice but the service was very slow for the fact we were the only people there. We would have ordered rice but it wasn't offered when ordered which is such an easy sale to add. Our water bottle was empty by entrees and never refilled. They were unable to time our meals to come out at the same time and had to wait 3-4 minutes while the last of our meals came out. We sat at the table for a good 15-20 minutes after we finished and nobody took our plates. These small details really make all the difference when running a restaurant. Unfortunately we won't be returning.

The worst Indian takeaway or food in Melbourne very easily. All the curries - paneer or chicken taste the same for some funny reason. Everything was very oily and just taste horrible. It's a disgrace what they are selling in name of Indian food. The meat in the biriyani was stale, chewy and tasted really old. NEVER EVER!
NaomiMmmm
Best Indian takeout in the area. Often quiet inside, but can't be beaten on flavour and value. We love the goat curry, and the chicken pakora are so good

We dined at Mehek Saturday night and enjoyed our meal. Restaurant was quiet so we were waited on straight away. We had the Mango chicken and vegetable korma which was excellent. Would recommend.

Menu looks good. Never got to try the food though, because for some reason their minimum delivery price is, like, $40 or something. So, there's a bit of a complaint.

My wife's Butter Chicken was nice but my Lamb Kadhai was horrible, it wasn't tomato based at all as quoted on the menu and didn't have much lamb in it at all. The Naans were also undercooked. It was worth a try but it won't be a regular restaurant for us.

The best Indian food around the area.

The outside décor has been changed / modified recently I guess.

Had a wonderful dinner last night. The restaurant was really busy with fully packed. But the service was excellent. Waiter was pleasant and friendly.

Lamb cutlets and Aloo tiki were our entrée. both were cooked properly and taste nice. Our mains were also gave a good taste, only small issue was the goat vindaloo tasted bit spicy. Cheese nan was the best.

The food was really tasty, with balance blend of Indian - Australian way. Spoke to the chef, a young girl, who made our dinner out perfect. THANK YOU.

The place is recommended ... believe me you will not be disappointed.

(Waiting time is bit longer - as they cook everything fresh)

So, first impressions leave something to be desired. Decor is old and run down, bathroom is gross.
Waited over 5 minutes to place the order. Food was good, but one dish was really spicy. Staff were VERY well trained and made sure we had a yoghurt and a replacement curry with no fuss or awkwardness.
The staff still lacked the attentiveness that was needed and there were only two tables in the whole place.
Overall, the staff were friendly enough and the food was nice. I will go back :)
Katie
Loved everything about Mehek. We shared dishes between our group and each thing we tried was cooked perfectly. Very friendly and welcoming staff too.
Two Bears And A Fork
Aside from needing a little spruce up with the decor (not sure what that plastic snake of lights in the window is supposed to do for the dining experience), at least Mehek is good...and better yet, consistently good. So, whether you eat in or order takeway, give them a try. What the mehek, right? :P

I think these guys have recently come under new management, they have also recently become my favourite Indian place in the area by far. I asked the young owner what he thought I should have and he brought me out a delicious vegetarian meal (I can't remember what it was called) really enjoy it and I am looking forward to bringing my mates there for my birthday next month
Barry
What a great placer eat. And cheap. The staff are great and the food is do good. U need to try it
Craig_oneill9
Best Indian Food. Don't let the appearance of the place fool you, they serve amazing Indian food. I regularly eat in and get take away from here. Service not always the best but the food is top notch
Night Rider
Excellent Taste with warm friendly service.

Once again I would like to say that this is one if best Indian restaurants in Melbourne.
Great food, fresh and real taste, and warm friendly service.
Will be back again!
The Budget Gourmet
Our first visit to Mehek. The decor is spartan to say the least, but staff friendly and food well worth the trip. The Lamb Roghan Josh very tender and Nann simply superb. Mains were a little more than expected at $17 - 18. That said the food was excellent and very enjoyable.

Worst service I have ever recieved. Firstly couldnt cobtact them via telephone to place an order so placed it online. Received a message stating it would be 1 hour for my food to arrive. After 1 hour 15mins decided to call, took 3 calls for them to answer to be rudely spoken to and told delivery another 25 mins or pick up 20 mins. Constantly cut off from speaking. Finally said yes to a refund. Go in to be abused again and tried to guilt trip me saying my refund comes out of her pocket to then have another girl come get money out of the till. 1.5 hours later and have no dinner and an extrwmely disappointing experience. Never go there again!!!

Yum!. Am a regular 3-4 times a month, don't be deceived by the ouside, this is a diamond in the rough. Food and staff are always good. They make very good samosas, onion bhajias and authentic breads, definately recommend the paratha as nice a flaky but tender. A very good flavoured curry as well, with variable levels of heat.

Authentic , and great Friendly Service.. This is probably the 7th time eating at Mehek, and each time the food has been delicious. My kids love the food, and the chef happily makes milder versions for them. Give me hot vindaloo or madras though.... Along with the variety of entrees with the tamarind or Mint yoghurty sauces as an accompaniment & the yummo Roti or Nann, its a good experience without having to break the credit card. I tried the mango IceCream this time which was rich and sweet. My Wife had the Pistacchio icecream, and that was even better. Not sure if those are home made, but they sure tasted great...

Voucher deal. We had purchased an online voucher for a meal including entree, all you can eat mains, and dessert, sounds good doesn't it? but what we didn't know is when they want you to finish the entire main meal means they want you to drink the curry gravy as well, every last bit of it! before we were allowed to get another main meal! i've had similar deals from other indian restaurants but never had we need to drink the entire content of the curry gravy! it was disgusting because it's thick and strong taste! and they put so much gravy that the meat were swimming in it and we had to DRINK IT ALL like soup! Gross! it made me sick in the stomach having to drink it all! they said if we don't finish it all (drink it), we will have to pay for the entire cost of the meal! (i drank all of my gravy from my curry, but my husband tipped his curry gravy out secretly...!)
THEY SHOULD STATE THIS IN THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS SO THE CUSTOMERS KNOW IT AND KNOW WHAT WE ARE IN FOR! I WOULD NEVER HAVE BOUGHT THE VOUCHER IF I KNEW WE HAD TO DRINK THE THICK GRAVY!!!
also when they say all you can eat main meals, they mean we are only allowed to get a REPEAT of the same 2 main meals we initially picked, not different ones! so that's actually called restricted unlimited main meals, they should also have stated this in the terms and conditions!!! its a bit of a false advertising i say!
anyway since we had a bad experience from this indian restaurants we have been telling our friends and family about it, and instead of gaining more customers for their business, they are losing business! so why put up a deal to attract more customers if they have such restricted choices?! especially when they didn't state it in the voucher, leading to us having a bad experience! bad for business really!

Authentic Indian. Our family of four, had a lovely dinner on Saturday night. The restaurant was very clean and tidy. The staff were professional and attentive.
The dishes were full of flavour, very more-ish! It's the sort of indian you'd get at the home of an Indian family. Quality food and good portions for a very good price!
The staff always ask if we'd like mild, mod, or hot, and get it right. Our kids happily eat the mild, and so do I. It is so tasty! My husband likes more heat and asks for moderate, and is happy with that.
This was our second time dining in. We came 3 weeks earlier for the first time, after reading many good reviews. We were the only ones dining in again, but there were plenty of people coming in to get their take away.
We will keep coming back for more! Mehek is our first choice for indian food!
Pree
Very bad! Ordered vegetarian biryani last week and all I could taste was plain rice with no masala ! Wouldn't order here again.
Mitchell_l_rox
Best Indian Food. Don't be fooled by how seedy this place looks it is the best Indian you will find, the most tender of meats, thick sauces and freshest naan and entrées. The butter chicken is the best you will find but their more traditional indian curries are what makes it the best Indian restaurant you will find. Also unlike other Indian restraunts when you ask for hot it is HOT!!!
Simplepleasures
This place isn't the best looking but the food is magnificent and cheap also. Ate in twice and always the only people in the restaurant but get take away probably twice a month from here and never ever a drama. We generally drive all the way to Knox for good Indian. These guys are close by to us and fantastic. Give them a go
Mark
I had dinner in mehek yesterday , very delicious food with real Indian flavour . First time I had real Indian food flavour in Melbourne , chicken malabari was delicious , quality and quantity both very good , friendly staff, decided to go back again .

Chanced on this place at recommendation of my mother who rated it highly for genuine Indian food. No stress on staff and no alcohol just good food vegetable vindaloo well spiced plain naan perfect.
Katie
Just fantastic - melt in your mouth beef, no horrible fatty bits, and great naan. Had it for dinner last night, it was so good I'm ordering again tonight. Yum!
Ashley
Tried eating in but the dithering disorganised staff took so long to attend us we walked out. Enjoyed the free poppadom though. Might try again when I'm less hungry & more patient.

Cheap... but not great. Mehek has good prices, but sadly you get what you pay for.

The dishes are very hit and miss. Good bread and rice but the serving sizes need revision in an upwards direction.
Hedonist
Good food, great prices. We decided to try this place out for the first time on a Monday night and were pleasantly surprised. The food is very good and very reasonably priced. I particularly enjoyed the Chicken Malabari (chicken with coconut and curry leaves). There is a great range of dishes to choose from and the waiter very kindly brought us complimentary icecream for dessert. This is a good suburban Indian restaurant. A word of warning: Mehek is alcohol-free as they are not licensed and they don't allow BYO.
Melbfoodie
The servings were small and the butter chicken was more like tomato chicken.
Stomp
We have had take away from Mehek on a number of occasions and each time the food has been consistent and enjoyed by all. The family pack fed 4 easily and was well priced.
Brenda
Brenda. My husband and I don't go to Mehek as much as we'd like. But every time we do get there for dinner the food is fabulous. Best Indian restaurant in the Greensborough/Eltham area. Decor a little disappointing but the food makes up for it.
Steve Kirby
Scrumptious! Both the mango chicken and 'chicken breast' butter chicken are awesome . My daughter loved the 'very hot' vindaloo lamb, she said her nose was running but her eyes weren't watering! We will be back.
SteveH
Average and intermittent. I personally enjoyed my first meal from Mehek, but I was a little disappointed that the pappadums were burned.

The flavours were pleasing but lacked any distinction to make it my 'go to' Indian.

The second visit was worse with burned pappadums again and an rather unpalatable taste in one of the dishes. My wife wrote them off after a second poor showing with little resistance from me.
Shaun
Good feed for the price. Mango chicken is delicious. Servings are a bit small, but good vale nonetheless.

Fantastic Indian food on a cheap budget. Eat in or take away , a great local resturant on the main street filled with the smell of fresh Indian spices. Friendly staff and great tasting dishes. Just be sure to tell them how spicey you want your food.
