Review La Porchetta - Greensborough

The place definitely has a old school, but comfy vibe. Wait staff were really nice. Food was solid and decent value.

Staff were very friendly, great service. Food was great. Ladies bathroom however is small, cold and filthy

So me and my housemate went to this lovely establishment last night to celebrate the 15 consecutive day of no Covid cases. As usually I always have high standards for La porchetta. The food was as always absolutely delicious and full of flavour and the staff where friendly as always. But the downside and the reason I am giving these guys 3 out of 5 stars is the fact that the restrooms where beyond Foul as there where dead moths on the floor and there was even one on one of the toilet seats in the mans bathroom. But over all the food was delicious but they seriously need to clean up.

I can understand that working on New Year's Eve can get very busy as a lot of places are closed, so it was understandable when I went to pick up the pizza after 30 minutes that it wasn't ready yet and I was told to wait 10 minutes. I waited inside La Porchetta, 10 minutes go by, 15 minutes have past, 20 minutes and I'm getting annoyed because a server just said to a different customer that the pizzas take 6 minutes to cook. I go back to the counter to check on my order as I haven't heard anything and it is sitting ready to be collected. Why did the staff not let me know the order was ready? I was waiting inside the shop. Customer service was pretty bad, a different customer had also waited a long time and was complaining that one guy told them it would be ready in 10 minutes and after 15 minutes he asked about the order again and got told to wait 10 minutes. You can understand the frustration. The pizza was pretty good. The gluten free based is a bit dense. Toppings were fresh and delicious. No one minds waiting a bit longer than their food but at least give a slightly accurate time to wait and just let people know you are very busy before people get annoyed. Also if someone goes to pick up their order, just try to remember so you can let them know when it's ready. I won't be coming back any time soon.

I have been there with my wife and we ordered Pasta dishes . Penne beef Regu and Fettuccine Pollo e Fungi, it was fresh and tasty . Quick and prompt service.

Took the kids here recently for dinner. It’s like walking into a time warp, the place is huge but seemed to lack any warmth in my opinion. There appeared to be only one other group eating in and when they left it was just us…it’s quite a cavernous place and not one that makes you want to hang around. Even though there was only one other table eating in the restaurant, I actually had to call a waitress over to take our orders. They seem to do quite a bit of takeaway (Uber eats?) but I am not sure I would get takeaway from here. Ordered two pizzas, Hawaiian minus the pineapple for the kids, and a gluten pizza for me. The kids pizza was the usual ham and cheese- pretty hard to get wrong. The gluten free pizza, I absolutely expect better from a pizza restaurant this size. The base which has the usual gluten free surcharge was ordinary at best and didn’t appear to be made in the establishment but ordered in (I could be wrong). Nevertheless if you are going to charge extra for gluten free, ensure the base is worthy and ensure that good clean gluten free kitchen practices are adhered to. Not saying they weren’t adhered to but just saying what the expectation is for people who require gluten free as we pay more than others for the same pleasures. Good luck.

Had delivery Pizza was very dry and chocolate mousse was watery and tasted like a packet one at $7.90 each mousse I expect a bit more.

Having a work dinner and ordered a vegetarian pizza with no cheese as I don't/can't eat dairy, and it came with cheese. Pretty disappointed it's not hard too check the pizza before delivery. Now I'll be eating when everyone else is finished, poor service wouldn't even give it 1 star

Boiled meat.. Yum! I not! We won't ever bother... Your restaurant Is empty for a damn good reason. Food was awful!
Kel Biggs
Terrible. My 'cream' based pasta was just a bowl full of oil. Worst meal Ive had by far and definitely wont be going back.

This was the most disappointing meal I’ve had in years. This place used to be great but now it’s an empty, lifeless waste of money. The weird green and yellow paint job & concrete floor is clinical and atmosphere is bland and unwelcoming. (Check out the hard rubbish pickup couch in the foyer that is ripped and broken).

We ordered a steak medium rare, which came well done, rock hard and dry and tasted like it had been cooked from frozen. The ($30) chicken Parma was so dry and burnt it was inedible. Along with a kids nuggets, pasta and small pizza, they also charged extra to have veges with the steak... so $40 for an inedible rock hard steak that was overcooked. The bill was over $150 and we didn’t even have any drinks. Supposed to be a family restaurant ... yeah, no wonder it was completely empty.

Provided feedback to the young waitress who explained it by saying there has been a few changes in chefs lately. No offer of anything else and anyway they seemed like they would rather be anywhere else but standing in an empty restaurant making excuses for slop food charged at a la carte prices. Stay away!!!! Can’t imagine this place will stay open much longer and hopefully for future customers sake it won’t...

Absolutely rank. Give it a miss people

Used to be good, haven’t been in a while, obviously changed hands. Got our order wrong, and not very nice tasting. Both of us couldn’t eat our meals.

We ordered take away, two small pizzas and a small pasta. It arrived and the pizza was try and pasta was tasteless. Won’t be ordering from here again.

Best takeaway pizza around. But more expensive than other stores but I’ve never had a bad one from them! Main meals are usually pretty average so stick to the pizza

I don't mind this chain, i pretty much only order the pizza here to take away. For our family meal we order our favourites the Super Special and Capricciosa.

Honestly not a bad place with okay prices, chips were nice and large quantity, but ordered a BBQ Chicken pizza which ended up having a fly somewhere in/on it. Unhygienic.
Saying that, one of the staff ladies quickly ran down to table to have a look and didn't charge for the pizza. Kudos on that, and they were otherwise friendly.

We have lived in Greensborough for 17 years and used to eat at La Porchetta (on average) once a month. We've seen at least 2 changes of ownership in that time, but this one seems to be the worst.

After having drifted away a few years ago and having found so many better options, we were given a GroupOn voucher for a dinner for two and attended last night.

On arrival, the restaurant was virtually empty (only about 4 tables at 8:45 on a Friday). The wait sraff were pleasant enough and were efficient at seating us and taking our orders. Unfortunately, that's when we were advised of the extra comditions of the voucher that weren't printed on the voucher itself. It seems we were permitted either a medium focaccia or bowl of chips (to share) as an entree, and either a pasta or risotto for main. We opted for the focaccia and a seafood risotto each. I ordered a glass of wine, and my partner a softdrink (both included). I later ordered another glass of wine with the understanding I would pay for it.

The focaccia was good, although we opted to take most of it away for our kids (we are not big fans of it). The risotto was terrible - it consisted of pre-cooked, medium-grain rice (ie. Not proper risotto rice, such as arborio). It appeared to have had sauce added and was then re-cooked, with 4 mussels, 2 prawns and some other (very low quality) marinara mix. The result, I probably don't have to describe. We ate the seafood and about half the rice because we were hungry.

All of this to the backdrop of kitchen and wait staff vocally bantering regarding the impending closing time and the joy that they could get out of here and go home.

I was curious on leaving whether the manager would charge us separately for the cheap drink, or one of the expensive ones - have a guess which...

It's about time establishments like this realised the importance of voucher programmes (to bait, hook, and keep customers). Instead, we were a bothersome burden - the money was already in the coffers, and clearly anything they gave us was considered pure loss. I estimate (very generously) that we received about $30 value for a $45 voucher.

Our lives are (and have been for a long time) in Greensborough. We have an extensive social network in the area - a network that won't be darkening La Porchetta's doorway for many years, if we have anything to say about it.

If it weren't for the adequate wait staff, my rating would have been a 1.

Great plump pizza's!

We visit various La Porchetta's so our kids can get their pasta fix and generally find that the food in all the places is pretty average but does the job. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the pizza's here are quite good. They were thin based (& not soggy) and had loads of fresh toppings. They also don't use the supercheap ham nor do they charge you extra if you ask for half and half. Service was pleasant too - we will return for the pizza.

I think I came here weekly as a uni student to catch up with friends over dinner #budgetlife. Recently I was pleasantly surprised to see it's still standing (memories) and even more surprised to see inflation hasn't even really creeped in. You can pretty much get change from a $20 from anything on the menu. Nostalgia got me on the pesto gnocchi. There's no fancy plating or crockery but there's absolutely nothing wrong with the flavour or quality. Better and cheaper than the Sofia's chain

Bad service & we haven't set in our foot in the door. My friends & I were planning to dine here on Sat night however when my friend tried to make a booking but no one answered the phone. She tried 3 times before we gave up and decided to go to another restaurant. This is terrible service & a terrible loss for the business as we had a group of 10 people. It is NOT acceptable to not answer the phone during the opening hours that is stated online. From just this experience, we will not go to this restaurant again, and advise others not to either because there are plenty of other Italian restaurants and other La Porchettas better than them.

One of the worst dining experiences in a very long time.

Only four tables in for Sunday lunch, waitress takes order and then I see her bringing out our entrees to wrong table, gets confused and takes it back to kitchen. Reads order docket that she wrote and wanders around aimlessly. I give her a wave, she comes over and I say "garlic focaccia, it's ours." Waitress: "Oh your table isn't what the order docent says", me: facepalm "it's our, you took the order" finally get the entree but then need to ask for plates, cutlery etc *sigh*

Drinks and mains come and at this point not one item that has been finished with is taken from the table. Mains consumed, second lot of drinks, empty bottles and glasses stacking up around the table. No attempt to clear table....

I try in desperation to get eye contact with waiting staff and owner to flag the table needs clearing to no avail. This goes on for ten minutes and all the while staff and owner casually chatting away

Some people are not made for the hospitality industry - all staff including what I'm assuming is the owner are these people. They should never be let loose with people, we see even given the stink eye when I finally got up and asked if they could clear the table 😂

Would give zero but one is the lowest!

Pretty unimpressive. We went for dinner with a large group on Easter Sunday. Place was near empty but it still took a good 30mins before anyone came near us to take our order. When the food finally came, all the pizzas came first then after an even longer wait a couple more then after more waiting, finally the salads (one was forgotten & so had to be made after most people had finished their dinner).

Pizzas were ok, spinach in the pumpkin salad was gritty & looked off & the schnitzel was so so over cooked it was inedible, couldn't even get cut (a refund was given after us complaining as it literally sat uneaten)!! The steak was cooked very poorly and full of fat. When we finally wanted to leave we had to wait another 30mins because they couldn't print the bill! Won't be returning.

Ordered a Gluten Free Margarita for $13.80 take away. Didn't check it till i got home.

Was literally the worst pizza i have ever eaten.

The base had two layers it was so weird, it was thin and soggy and the "bottom layer" like peeled off while you ate it, it was strange it.

Bland taste, and yea just horrible. Even the appearance cheese was hanging off it and it had caved in cse it was so weird. The herbs had been like thrown on in two piles, one you can see in the photo the other piece is missing.

The reason i ordered it was because my favourite GF pizza was from la porchetta in Ivanhoe, who are really good. The base is amazing even for GF tastes like real pizza dough.

Was a lot better when they had different owners. Food is okay but not as good as it used to be. Service is not bad and the waitresses are usually pretty attentive. Prices are a bit over the top for what you get in the end. There are lots of other places to go in the area so I leave this as a last resort.

Got takeaway from here recently and was not too impressed with the food. Used to come here regularly for both takeaway and eat in. Haven't been back since the new owners but decided to venture back now and check it out. When I picked up my takeaway the place was almost empty even though it was peak service time. That should have been my first warning. When I got my food home I was not impressed with the quality. Both the pastas we ordered (carbonara and chicken and mushroom) did not have much cream sauce at all. The pasta at the top half of the container was dry with little ego no sauce. Tried putting the food in a bowl and mixing the little sauce through but there was barely enough to cover the pasta! The carbonara bacon was all stuck together in huge clumps. Like four of five curt up pieces stuck together, clearly not separated when cooking the food. The cheese and garlic pizza was very very oily but had little to no garlic taste. The man behind the counter was since enough when serving me buy unfortunately I won't be returning as the quality I was used to receiving here has not been maintained. The interior doe look nice with some new couches and features to update the place but the food has gone down hill.

Best pizza in melbourne. I go there regular with my friends and family and this is the best pizza I ever had withe the glass of house wine . Service is good few times on Friday and Saturday nights we do have to wait extra time for the food which we were informed as was very busy in the night . We always enjoy our meals there and recommend same to others

Worst pizza I have had La porchetta Greensbrough. I have never had a worse pizza in my life ! The topping was overly salty but the worst part was the crust . The dough had not risen. Was undercooked but hard as a biscuit underneath . This was once a good pizza place but have vowed never to return . A waste of 45 bucks !

Gross cry pizza. My friend and i ordered a few pizzas for take away. pizza was not nice, chicken was very dry and no sauce or cheese on the pizzas.

Greensborough La Porchetta is the worst in Melbourne. Deplorable service. Long wait on food getting out to table and when it arrived 4 out of the 6 were wrong. Food is over priced for what you get. Manager is unapologetic and unreasonable. We will never return to this restaurant again. By the way this bad service has happened more than once so shame on me for returning in the first place.

New Owner is rude!. A friend and I visited La Porchetta Greensborough recently as we do regularly. Usually the service is average and the food isn't bad. However this time as soon as we arrived the service was shocking... We were greeted with a "Hi Ladies" which doesn't exactly make sense when I'm a male and definitely don't look female haha. We were eventually seated in a booth. The waitress already seemed lost and wasn't paying much attention. Our order was taken, reconfirmed and then reconfirmed again... the waitress left the table to place the order and then a different waitress came up to us and asked what we would like to order. We explained that the order had already been taken. she then laughed and then decided to yell out to the first waitress and then had a laugh as they pulled faces at each other...how professional is that...

My meal arrived, missing the garlic sauce I requested. My friends chips arrived that she requested as a side to her pasta... after some time the first waitress returned and asked if someone else had taken our order...we explained no, she seemed confused and said "oh don't worry its fine." My friends pasta still hadn't arrived. We questioned the waitress and then noticed that she was putting pasta off a plate into a take away order container. When my friend advised that she had ordered that pasta the waitress was confused and explain she thought we didn't infant order that and it was added to the order by mistake, hence she was putting it into a takeaway container to take home her self...

The waitress then put the pasta back onto the plate and served it to my friend... we laughed as it was a mess and the plate had cheese all over it and was dripping all of the sides... as we had already waiting so long my friend decided to eat it but after a quarter or so couldn't eat anymore due to the poor presentation and how cold it was... we went to the front to pay and asked to speak to the manager as we thought due to the issues which were caused by staff that we should have had to pay for the pasta meal...

The manager argued with us. Had a argument with the waitress in front of us and refused to waive the cost of the pasta as " the register does not allow that." As customers coming to the same La Porchetta for many years we knew in-fact it could be removed as in the past any issues the old manager would remove the cost without even being asked.

The manager then offered us a 10% discount which we refused and then he said the best he could do is 50%. The Argument continued and after the manager yelling at us saying that we are never to come back to La Porchetta greensborough he agreed to remove the cost of the pasta. Payment was made for the remaining meals and we intend never to return to La Porchetta Greensborough and will ensure all our family and friends do the same. New manager/owner...such a disappointment to loose a number or regular customers due to your lack of customer service. We feel sorry for the staff that have to work under you...

I enjoyed. Had a good meal and enjoyed it. all the ingredients were fresh it took some time for food to come out on saturday night but definitely was worth the wait.

Very friendly service and a great time had by all. We recently booked back-to-back booths, one for a group of 6 celebrating an 18th birthday and the other for 3 "oldies". Between the 9 of us we had a range of parmas, pizzas and pastas, and drinks. The food was all brought out at appropriate times without any delays or problems, and everyone loved it. The service was very friendly and prompt, delivered with a smile and sense of humour. We'd brought a birthday cake along, and the staff set this up with candles and brought it out immediately when requested; all done without question. Excellent customer service.

We will defintely be going back.

Came here for a feed after the movies. We weren't expecting much to begin with, just after a cheap feed. We ordered our meals, Mrs got hers and I was left twiddling my thunbs for twenty minutes. Nobody bothered to check on us or even offer me another drink. As my Mrs was nearly finished her dish I still hadn't been served mine and I was keen on just walking out. Very poor service. Its always a bad sign when a whole family arrive well and truly after you have and they all get served with their meals and you're there sitting hungry. There wasn't that many diners either. I think the young waiter staff need some lessons in dining etiquette.

Since the owners have change this place has gone down hill, bad food and bad service, we are no longer customers of theirs, rather now it's doncaster la pochetta, great food and service

In the past I've always had a fair meal for the price.
Are there new owners?
Well Sunday night had a very ordinary experience.
Special pescatore pasta at $22 was blah
Wife's lasagne had to be sent back three times as it was cold.
One coffee returned , not very hot.
Sons Parma was ok, daughters pizza typical for them.
Definitely not value for money this time . Won't be going back in a hurry.

What's happened the Greensborough La Porchetta. Since the change of management at Greensborough La Porchetta the place has been turned on its head, seemed like it happen about Feb 2014 1st warning 90% of the staff changed, 1st mistake, took ages for order to be taken food still ok though. But then the food started going down hill. visit 1 Minestrone soup cold and obviously come from microwaved frozen stock, sent back to the kitchen. Visit 2 wrong order delivered, ( carbonara pasta instead of calabrese )when correct order arrives it the calabrase has chicken pieces in it, then desert portion size reduced by 75%. We used to go there 2 or 3 times a month sadly they have done their dash we wont be back.

Not Impressed!. Went to La Porchetta Greensborough for a meal, ordered a gluten free pizza only for a normal pizza to be brought out, they then told me they had run out of gluten free bases and asked if i wanted anything else. I ordered pasta but by the time that came out the rest of the table had finished their meals. Terrible service, food wasn't great and a man who i assume is management was skulling alcohol behind the bar.
Very poorly run. I wouldn't return there.
Mandy
Poor service, and half hour diffrence between the delivery of our mains, half the table had finished before the other half even came out. Not good enough

Plain, nice restaurant, spoiled by a case of "we would rather cover ourselves attitude from management" Asked if spaghetti had egg in it(allergies) told yes... Was surprised, asked if it was may contain traces? Was told nope egg in it.... Later asked for vanilla ice cream, told yes egg in it... Thought how strange, la porch etta doesn't use homemade pasta and ice cream .. Asked to look at ingredients label and no egg, said something about cross contamination. I understand companies don't want to take responsibility, but management did not help me at all to have something suitable for my little girl. Felt really let down, will not go there again.Website says let them know if you have allergies, well they treat you uncaringly and poorly.

Friday Evening. Seems to be a popular restaurant, average meals.
Alcohol beverages are a fair price.
Okay for a group meeting.
If you want something more fancy, I would not bother.
Billy Mauldon
Very average meal felt like it was all per cooked mass produced slop will never come back avoid !!!!!!
Chris Varsamakis
For the price you pay here you certainly get a good meal which is very acceptable. The service is very good. Dealt with their manager Elle who was exceptional.

Reasonable food at a reasonable price. My favorites are the chicken and avocado pasta and the garlic and cheese pizza. Yummy!

Better than other's in the area but not as good as some.. We never eat at ANY of the La Porchetta chains; they ALWAYS disappoint. After living in the area for a little over a year and only being able to find one pizza place that was top notch we decided to give La Porchetta a go one night when we were late night shopping and craving a big dirty cheesy hawaiian. We ordered our pizzas takeaway and they arrived in about 10mins. Their pineapple pizza was lacking in cheese as well as pineapple for the amount of ham used but all in all it wasn't too bad. We also tried the garlic/herb pizza the same night which was super garlicy however was missing the saltiness needed to balance out the overpowering garlic. Wasn't great, but wasn't bad either; nice and cheesy. On a separate occasion we have ordered the four corners pizza which was good to get a bit of a taste of a few different kinds in the one hit BUT the corner with anchovies was absolutely 'swimming' with them.. too many even for an anchovie lover! All in all, for the amount of money you are spending it isn't too shabby. I would recommend Greensborough La Porchetta to anyone that likes a good bang for their buck and shitload of cheesy toppings, but if you are a true pizza connoisseur don't waste your money as it just won't cut your cake. PLEASE NOTE WE HAVE ONLY HAD TAKEAWAY PIZZA FROM HERE AND CANNOT COMMENT ON ANY OTHER ITEMS ON THE MENU OR THE DINE IN EXPERIENCE.
Mrs Cat
One of the worst pizzas I've ever had. The locals were right. Nearly easier to eat a cardboard box.
Stelyios
Not bad for a franchinse. Out of all La Porchetta's this manages to be one of the best. Even though waits can be a little long (but not to bad) while it is busy on a Friday night it usually has nice tasting food and pizza and service is great. Prices are also reasonable. When looking for a place to eat for quick, convenient and affordable great tasting food i suggest here!
SteveH
A nice experience. La Porchetta isn't a gourmet experience but it manges to overcome it's shortcomings to provide a nice atmosphere with good value for money with a decent service.
