The burgers at Alfreds are a homemade style and all the food is comfort food, such as pea and ham soup, chips and gravy.
The food overall is great- some might say you could make the menu items at home but that’s what’s good about it- you don’t have to and you get the homemade comfy feed for a cheap price. The prices are quite reasonable- $11 on average could fill you up. It’s a nice atmosphere with the fireplace and a train carriage to sit in. The only downfall is the waiting queue due to popularity around dinner time from 5:30-8 pm (probably 20-25minute wait). Good midnight feed option as the place shuts often 12- 2am and these times have a short waiting time (around 5-10 mins) ;)
they've been making burgers since 1946 so that pretty much tells you everything you need to know..I haven't been back for a while but the burger never changes, absolutely the best in Australia. You will have to wait because the queue is pretty big but it's absolutely worth it. I go the double with bacon and cheese. Simple menu, awesome burgers, amazing atmosphere. Just go there.
What can I say but it’s Alfred’s. Not fancy, cheap late night eats, enjoyed in the carriage in the rain.

Came here on Friday night for burgers with some of our car club members. We've been here countless times in the past but tonight was the best ever burgers and pea and ham soup. I had the Cram which is all the meaty goodness (steak, bacon, hamburger pattie) with an egg, cheese, lettuce and tomato, I got mine minus sauce and onion. You pretty much have to dislocate your jaw to eat this huge delicious creation! The steak was tender and fat/gristle free, the bacon perfect and the hamburger pattie had a nice crust on it. It was awesome. My husband got the Alfred's special which is a hamburger pattie, bacon, egg, cheese, lettuce and tomato in 3 layers of toast with gherkin relish. He originally asked for it minus the gherkin relish but the lady talked him into having it by saying that it makes the burger what it is (being Alfred's special). He loved it! That will be his choice every time we go now. As usual the pea and ham soup was delicious. I had 2 half serves (one before the burger and another one after the burger) and had to be rolled to the car when we were ready to go home. We really enjoyed the food and atmosphere and will keep coming here for sure.
Legendary as they say, burgers are sooo delish! And it was all about the correct amount of ingredients in their burgers. The cram burger was just perfect, taste of meat bacon and all basic ingredients are just right. Pea and and ham soup was super yummy. I can taste that smokey flavour within the soup, if i'm not wrong. The old train feel was a plus. I'd come back here as often as I can for their delicious burgers.

Its not somewhere that I go for the service as there is non but love everything about the Alfred’s Kitchen.
Its usually busy at nights so theres a bit of waiting but it is worth it.
If you want a fantastic burger you can't go past Alfred's. Sure you might have to wait a little bit if they're really busy (they were packed when we went on the weekend and we only had to wait 15 minutes for an order for five people...so we're not talking massive wait times here) but the burgers are really, seriously worth it. Firstly there is a proper, toast bun (none of that weird stuff they call bread in the fast food burger joints), the pattie is nice and thick and cooked just perfectly (they've been using the same recipe since they opened in 1946) and they have just the right amount of salad and bbq sauce. I always get mine with bacon and cheese cos, well I love bacon and cheese. I hear their pea and ham soup is the stuff of legends and judging by the amount of people ordering I guess that must be true. I've not tried it myself though .
Always consistent and tasty Alfreds is a must for a hearty rustic burger, the food is made from the heart and is an institution of Perth. Pea and Han soup is a must in the winter months by the fire for anyone

I havent been here for along time so after hearing they have a sheltered place you can eat we made it a night to go there. Btw its like a 30 min drive for us to get there. So here we are. Alfreds has an addition of a indoor alfresco dining area . The indoor area is a old train carriage and the alfresco is a gated area outside of carriage. They still had the signature open fire pit they had going on a cold night, which was nice,but it was busy so there was no seats there. Before u had to wait around for your order now they have the buzzer which is good so u can find ur place to sit and wait and not have to stand around waiting. The burgers are still amazing, big and messy to eat but so good value. Definitely a place to get a good feed. They take eftpos and card. There is no surcharge either which is good. Definatly be back. Oh and they have high chair in the carriage seating area.

THE BEST BURGER I’VE EVER HAD MY WHOLE LIFE. Before I visited this burger joint for the first time, people kept telling me how amazing the burgers are, but I was like “how can a burger be that amazing” but oh my.... when I had my first bite, my mouth couldn’t even handle how tasty it was. It was more than delicious. The price was so cheap because the burger is sooo big. I had to ask the staff to cut the burger in half because it was so big. Oh alfreds kitchen —- you are indescribable!
We got there a few minutes after 12 and there were already a few people lining up waiting for the shutters to open. Being a debut visit I kept things relatively simple and ordered a hamburger with cheese, jazzed up slightly with some grilled pineapple. Hey we were staycationing, so why not? GG went with the Alfred’s Special – Hamburger patty with egg, cheese and bacon in three layers of toast with gherkin relish. With our order in, we wandered to find a table. There are seats set up roadside and at night you see the crowds huddled around the fire pits with their burgers or a cup of the famous pea and ham soup, but we headed towards the back where they had some umbrella’d tables set up. You can also dine in their refurbed train carriage which they’ve done such a wonderful job with! I can imagine kids would just love it. This big kid definitely thought about it.
It rules -- it's not a hipster recreation of some imaginary old burger joint but the real thing still doing what it's always done. The steak has some chew, the burgers are unpretentious, there is gherkin relish on some items and the pea and ham soup is simple and good. Great value and cool experience every time I go.
The prices are very good. The food was a really decent serving size, and tasted pretty good too. It was cool to eat in the train carriage, especially on such a cold night it was good to get out of the wind.

Finally got around to trying this place! Totally worth the 35 min drive to try their burgers and I’m thinking of going again. There were already people waiting in front of the shop before it opened at 12 pm on Saturday. My friend got the famous ‘the cram’ burger, I got the bacon, egg and cheese burger but I felt adventurous so I added the extra spicy hot sauce. The burgers were huge and value for money, I left feeling super full and satisfied! Loved the chilli sauce, it took my burger up a notch but I don’t recommend getting the extra spicy sauce unless you can take really spicy foods
Edit: Came back another time and had the lentil burger. Friends had the steak special and Alfred’s special. All were really nice. Finished off with some pea and ham soup which was very creamy and filling
One of Perth’s most loved burger joints has recently become a whole lot more family friendly. Alfred’s Kitchen has been a Guildford institution for over 70 years. Previously, the takeaway didn’t provide much seating, apart from a few benches around the much loved fire pit. Perthies were happy to stand around munching on their burgers, though it could be a bit of a juggling act.
Had the lentil burger. Patty was not drenched in oil, cooked just right, absolutely wonderful. Fabulous service and price. Would definitely return.

It's been years since my last visit to Alfred's and nothing has changed... which is a good thing. Now open for lunch on the weekends, it gave me the perfect solution to dampen my hangover. I had the Cram (massive burger containing a burger patty, steak and bacon amongst other things) and my partner had the Alfred's Special (club-style burger). We also ordered a small pea and ham soup to share, something they are famous for, which we slurped down whilst waiting for the main event. All burger components were cooked perfectly, the steak received an honourable mention for it's tenderness. I barely finished the Cram but had to assist my partner with her last quarter, something I really should have passed up. This burger joint has survived the mass-market burger chains, the new school gourmet burger restaurants and every other food trend you can throw at it. It just proves, if you do something we'll, stick to it.
Good value and very tasty. We had the Alfred special, a bacon burger, hamburger & chips with gravy. The food was great, we all enjoyed our meals.
The service was good and the train carriage is clean and warm. After trying other expensive below average burger place won't bother going anywhere other than Alfreds.
The ambience and atmosphere was quite unique. Where else would you find people roasting marshmallows while waiting for their burgers. Dining in the Train Coach Car was a nice touristy experience.
We tried the Pea and Ham soup and found it quite satisfying. Not too salty, just perfect. For the burgers we had the Cram and the Alfred's Special. They were actually similar flavours. We found the burgers to be quite satisfying, although it lacked some WoW factor.
We wouldn't mind stopping by if we were traveling to the Swan Valley, however we didn't find it WoW enough to make the effort just to eat there.
Went to Alfred's last night for dinner , I got the lentil burger 🍔 it was really nice ! Had some tasty spices, veggies and onions in the patty . I really loved it 😃😃 chips are nice , big and crunchy .. they have the train carriage now so plenty of seats available to eat your food comfortably .. lots of people there which is a good sign 😊

Big big portions and cheap prices! This is what makes this place so popular. Everything was 'good' but I wasn't as amazed as I had expected to be. The location is nice and the open fire adds something while you wait... which can be a while as it's generally quite busy! Worth a trip as it definitely won't break the bank and you won't be hungry afterward that's for sure 🍔
Came here on a cool saturday night and there was a pretty ling que of people but only waited about 5 minutes to order. Nice fire cranking with seats next to for waiting for your order or eating at. Food took about 15-20 minutes but would have waited an hour because the burger was that good. Our eyes were defs bigger than our bellys as we got a soup chips and burgers between two people and couldnt finish the chips. Hands down best burger ive eaten (hamburger, cheese and bacon) will definately be driving half an hour from home again for another! Stoked!

Big burgers, big taste and great value. Even the mister said he was full afterwards. This never happens. The steak in the burgers were thin and tender enough so that when you bite into it you don't end up ripping out the whole steak. Pea and ham soup had yummy chunks of ham - I kind of prefer my soup a bit thicker but was tasty all the same.

I ordered the Cram burger and My God it was huge with a beef patty, scotch fillet, double bacon, egg, cheese and salad. Well priced for what you get compared to other burgers around. It was so tasty and not pretentious. Just an old school delicious burger. Their Pea and Ham soup is also delicious.

Really nice burgers. I had the hamburger w cheese and bacon and he had the double burger. We shared a serve of chips and a coke. The whole meal came to $29 which is the cost of a single burger and a small drink these days at a pub. My only crticism of the burger is that even though we ate there 2 seconds after receiving our order it was luke warm and there was a mild fattiness to the burger pattie. Other than that very generous servings and sizes bothe chips and burgers.

Worth a visit to get a burger. Good value as they are pretty large. I had the cheeseburger which was good. Stand out was the chips and gravy for me though. The little carriage was cute.
Alfred's is awesome. Period. While tiny fanciful burgers might be the latest thing, Alfred's hits the spot with size and flavour. The only downside is the same it always has been: just too popular, and the carpark is always full. Still, well worth the wait.

This iconic place has been around for years and has a great reputation. Some of the staff have been there for a while as well . We arrived at about 1030pm in a Saturday evening looking for a little snack. Thought we would not overdue it so sent my partner in crime up to order a burger and that's it I said 😫😫 after chiln by the fire he returns with a CRAM burger. Hamburger patty, Angus beef, bacon,egg, and salad . I honestly could not get my mouth around it , needless to say I was unable to finish my half . However it left me more than satisfied and placed me in a food Como !!Good priced food and well worth a visit .

Well this place never disappoints. We had dinner tonight in the NEW rail car with a group and meals were fast to arrive and were devoured like we had not eaten in months. Great attentive service and beautiful food.
This place is one of my first 'bookmarks' and finally I've visited! A Sunday night around 1845 and a 20 min tie wait for two burger and chips with gravy. It was totally worth the wait. Highly recommend!
Alfreds Special is the best, love the gherkin relish. The pea and ham soup rocks, I swear the same pot just gets topped up each day. Alfreds has been made fancier recently (it even has covered seating now), but you just can't beat sitting around the fire, getting burger all over your face. Really popular Friday, Saturday & Sunday you will wait for ages for your meal...it's SO worth it!!

Back to my food, I ordered CRAM, store famous soup add on chips. While waiting burgers, I found it is still many many people here around the fire at 8pm even in this freezing night waiting for their order like me. About 5-10 mins later, food is ready. The burger is so much heavier than I expected, it contains a fresh juicy steak, bacon, and thick ever beef patty, egg and heaps of veggie plus cheese (although I didn't expect either, forget to say while ordering but i recon many of ppl into it). And you know this huge things is only cost you $15 !!! And the taste of this burger is just amazing n yummmm! Toward that soup, it is not my type though, a little bit too thick and salty for me personally.
Overall, Alfred's kitchen is another local gems on my foodie list in Perth, definitely should try other burgers next time!
Popped into this place late last night. There wasn't much of a crowd there being a wet Saturday night. The bonfire was on though. We ordered a large ham and pea soup, and the egg and cheese hamburger. The soup was really good, thick and flavoursome. It looked more like a puree than a soup. The hamburger was huge. The soup and hamburger was basically a meal for 2 and it cost less than $17. What we ate was what we saw from the pics here. We were glad to have at least tried this place once. As there weren't many people, we got our food within 10 minutes. Can't imagine when there's a big crowd waiting for their orders......Oh, while waiting for our food, an elderly lady struck a conversation with us. This is something I don't get to experience anymore in Perth. Good food, good atmosphere, what more can we ask for......
Somewhere not far from Perth is an intuition that everyone knows about…everyone except me. So when my posse planned a visit I jumped at the chance to join them. It has been around for years, serving good food that wasn’t too expensive. It is not fancy or particularly flash but it is authentic and genuine.
Pea and ham soup is a must! Generous portions of chips which is great for kids. Burgers (cheeseburger in particular) is a bit of a let down - too dry and burnt and no option to add pickles.

Heard good stuff about this place and finally was able to see for myself. Opens from 5pm till late. Got here 5:30pm and it was already packed! They basically serve 3 types of burgers - hamburger, bacon burger and steak burger - all with a variety of additions like egg, cheese, bacon or a combo. Tried their hamburger with egg and cheese, and the steak burger with cheese. They were pretty decent burgers, home made goodness without the oily grease and fresh ingredients, beef patty was juicy, buns were grilled first to give a bit of toasted crunch. Chips and gravy were so good in the cold night, and alot of patrons had their soup - must be good. It's a takeaway joint with a few seats around an open fire pit - so be prepared for this. Overall nice food, but wouldn't drive all the way here just for it - if in the area, give it a try for sure.

After reading reviews of this place, my expectations were high. I am happy to say that it did not disappoint. We had the hamburger with bacon, egg and cheese and the cram burger. We took the advice of past reviews and came just after 6pm. Luckily we did as the crowd was massive by the time we left around 7pm. Both burgers were huge and super flavoursome and you were able to eat it without it all falling apart (like at other burger joints). Overall I was satisfied by the quality of the burgers and pleased at the price. Will definitely be returning soon!
Had my first meal at Alfred's kitchen the other night and it really is as good as everyone says. With an array of different burgers consisting of vegetarian options as well as your standard beef offerings, there is something for everyone. I opted for the steak, bacon and egg burger and it was massive and delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly and was extra juicy the way it should be. The chips and gravy side was a nice touch that many burger joints don't provide. The location is iconic next to the train line in Guildford and the recent expansion has evidently only made it more popular. The staff aren't particularly pleasant and even border on abrasive but this is a minor qualm in the big picture.

If I never get to eat another one of the excellent burgers from here again, I shall most probably continue to dream about it for years and feel slightly anguished that I'm not eating one. I feel that there are a lot of other people who also share this fear and that is why there is a bit of a wait for your food. (To overcome the wait problem though, I know that you can order ahead.)
We didn't know if they'd be open on a public holiday but we took a chance and were rewarded for our efforts.
This railway trackside and road side burger establishment, pending additional seating coming soon, only has a few tables around the side and lots of benches (without tables) at the front. It's not the most comfortable place to eat, however once you're eating your burger, you won't notice.
We ordered the Alfred's special - a layered sandwich of egg, cheese, burger, tomato and pickle spread on toast, a plain cheeseburger and chips and gravy. Deliciously chargrilled burgers, a little sauce, tiny chopped onions - fresh toasted breads make these burgers just that bit wonderful and satisfying. Crispy chunky chips and meaty gravy, always a great combination and one that Alfred's kitchen does so well.
Tried the Cram, Alfred Special and lentil burgers. The Alfred Special is a triple decker sandwich with egg, bacon, meat pattie and salad finished off with their special pickle sauce. Definitely yummo and huge. Cram burger has everything and steak. After those two, the lentil burger was fine without being outstanding. Would go back but probably stick with the meat burgers.
Super value for money! Wow! $11.10 for a Hamburger with Egg, Cheese and Bacon gets you a bloody big burger! I was so happy! It was cooked perfectly and the bread was toasty! I feel like it could have had some sauce in it to give it a little bit more flavour but otherwise yum!
The guys who work there are fun and easy going and boy do they churn throw the orders pretty quick given the crowds! Though i have been told that when the fire pit is going the line is huuuggee.

One of the best burgers I had in Australia. Travelled all the way from Brisbane for a holiday and came across this joint. So glad I did. Highly recommend it to anyone in Perth and every visitor.
Best burger ever! I have been meaning to go here for years but the line out the front has always been a turn off. 4 girlfriends & I braved the wait & were pleasantly surprised. I am now kicking myself I haven't been here for a burger - they are old Skool - huge, fresh & delicious! Worth the wait (about 20 min) and the chips are yummy too.

Unbelievable eatery. The food here feels home cooked and yet at the same time with serious flavour. The staff are exceptional and lovely, there is ample area to eat around the fireplace if you want or to sit in the refitted train carriage. The pea and ham soup is out of this world and is a must try! This place is absolutely an institution here in Perth, and I have driven out here multiple times even when I’m not in the area. Their late hours make it really easy to pop by even for a supper if you want to! If you’re driving past - then definitely drop by, it’s worth it!
This place is great for late night hangouts. Be ready to wait for a long time because of the steady stream of orders they receive. They have plenty of room to dine in but it is quite messy in there. Staffs were lovely though and their burgers and soup are quality 🤌

One observation is the train carriage dining area definitely needs free air to be able to circulate through it otherwise it can get stuffy.
