Review Il Goloso - Haberfield

Good food and friendly staff.. Very nice outside area with tomatoes and Italian herbs growing.. 2 metre's antipasto plate worth ordering

Great service & great food. The wait staff are always friendly & up for a laugh & Tony (the owner) is a very accommodating host. We have always enjoyed the food here & have been going since the old place. Had my 50th Birthday dinner here & everyone was amazed at the fantastic food even accommodating for my Gluten Free & Vegan friends. My friends saying they were so impressed with the food & atmosphere they'd be back! The Alfresco area is fantastic in summer & great for long boozy lunches. Highly recommended!

This has to be one of my favourite pizza/pasta restaurants. The decor is modest but the food is spectacular. They do pizza in the traditional way, thin crust, carefully selected ingredients and not too much to overwhelm the whole pizza. I always order the antipasti and a pasta - also simple and delicious. These guys really know what they're doing.

one of the best restaurants in Sydney. Very delicious pizza n pasta. The staff were really nice. It was amazing to see the whole staff members singing happy birthday to a little girl while bringing out the cake.

Don’t let the charming idea of a former post office site fool you. The standard of service is lacking here. Menus took 10 minutes to arrive from time of seating. (Hello?!?) After finally taking our order, the main took 50 mins to arrive, despite it being a quiet night with only 3 other tables. We were later told it depends on what we ordered. Understandable, but communication in advance would have gone a long way. Lasagne was tasty, but ragu was undersized and far too salty for $28. Being a smaller restaurant there should be charm to help compensate - however this was unfortunately lacking. Local suburban restaurants have their place, however unfortunately this one was a miss for us.

Food was delivered on time, but that is the only positive we really had with what we received from Goloso. The pizza was undercooked in the centre, and tough and dry on the outside. The fairly bland pasta we received was less than entree-sized (less than half the container it arrived in) for over $20. Dessert was also disappointing. Total waste of time and money.

Do not attend when a crowd is expected. Our Mother's Day experience (2017) was terrible. We had 12 people, but other tables had more. The waiters never offered us drinks, we had to flagged them down for attention. The drinks took 20 minutes to arrive after ordering (I'm being kind). The food was served slowly - up to 30minutes wait or more between courses (being finished). The food generally was delicious, the servers were polite (excepting one), but the service was inattentive, and slow whilst the owner was ungracious and rude.

Just had dinner with my family here, There were 7 of us . For a special occasion this is not to be recommended. Food portions were sparse to say the least, food was bland. When you're paying 30 bucks for a main you expect some volume of Food? I would like to say the food that we received was good but not one of the 7 of us was impressed. We r just a normal family but we won't be going back. Additionally during our meal the staff decided to start passing chairs over the back of our chairs. All in all no stars from me. I am 59 and have never sent a review before.

It permanently Closed down in July 2018- sorry to see it go. The veggie pizza was the best. Staff friendly too. It’s now KTown- a franchise of Korea bbq House

A decent restaurant. Nice pizza. Although I have only had takeaway. It was nice. I think it would be better if I ate in. I think that if I eat it again it might taste better.

It was a cold, blustery evening, but as soon as we stepped through the door, we were warmly greeted and offered a choice of seating. We chose a spot by the open kitchen so we could watch the chef prepare the pizzas; we had the Margherita and Capriciossa. They're the soft crust, woodfired variety served the traditional way. Enjoyable meal and lovely service at this homely, neighbourhood restaurant.<br/><br/>***edited 11JAN18***<br/><br/>Kids were craving pasta and thought we could get a quick meal but sadly that was not the case. Although not particularly busy the Friday night we visited, service was slow with it taking quite some time for menus to be presented after being seated, and then for the orders to be taken. It was almost 40 minutes between arriving and receiving our food.<br/><br/>Pasta was enjoyed and demolished by the kids but I found the eggplant fritters to be dry and salty.

So, the unbelievable was that I order three pizzas as takeaway from Post. No joke, the pizza took seven minutes. Seven! It took me longer to decide what I wanted. Now the style is traditional so no topping overload or tasty cheese (that the heavens). That said, solid pizzas without being brilliant. The base is tasty but the sauce could be more generous. Toppings are fresh but the variety of pizzas are too similar
Rebecca
Mediocre entree, good pizza, forgotten salad and terrible pasta. That pretty much sums up my night. The worst was the pasta - $25 for a very small serving. The sauce was lovely but the pasta itself was almost raw, certainly not al dente. The gentleman on the next table sent his pasta back for the same reason and I wish I had done the same!

Good food. Probably one of the best pizzas in Haberfield. Not the best though. It was still good though. Although I expected it to be better. Although though it was good

Great food, honest service. Seriously the best Italian food I've had out for a very long time. Will be trying to come back again to try the other food on the menu.

It offers the traditional Italian favourite pastas (Lasagne, Cannelloni, Gnocchi, Boscaiola are just some) and both Pizza Rose (tomato based) and Bianche (white-based) with crowd-pleaser toppings as well as specialty combinations such as the Fiori D'oro (zucchini flower, olives, anchovies and bocconcini) and Toscana (Salame, Porcini, Mixed musrooms, parmesan and mozzarrella).

When we walked in, and Linda says ‘OMG! This place looks fancy’. Indeed it did.<br/><br/>We ordered two pizzas (Ai Salumi and some potato pizza) and pasta with prawns, avocado, mushrooms in pink sauce. We also ordered dessert with Nutella Calzone and Ricotta Cake. For me, the highlight was the pasta. The fettucine was made perfectly! I could’ve finished the plate by itself and not had any pizza. Woodfire pizza was also really good. Definitely better than Dominos or Pizza Hut even though it’s like three times the price. Not a fan of the Nutella Calzone. It was a bit like a pide with nutella in it. Could’ve went for another piece of ricotta cake though.

...garlic prawns were spectacular! My gnocchi was delicious, the gnocchi itself was gorgeously fluffy. My mum, dad and brother's meals (respectively) were also all very delicious! If I had any qualms it was that the prices were quite dear, not something I could've afforded on my own. Find them: 60 Dalhousie St Haberfield, NSW Garlic Bread,  $3 Vegetable Antipasto, $15 Garlic Prawns, $18 Linguine Prawns & Asparagus, $22 Spaghetti Marinara, $22 Fettuccine Terramere, $22 Homemade Potato G

So it was a further delight for me to be able to relax in the Italian enclave of Haberfield, one of my fav hideouts in Sydney.

The calzone fritto won us over and we knew we'd be back. We walked in and were quickly attended to by the staff. They have a good ratio of waitstaff to customers and their staff are well trained and attentive. The room is quite large and acoustics lead to the need to speak up in order to be heard, but it's an Italian restaurant, so we weren't exactly expecting a quiet night. Dishes: Gar

Inside was a little cooler and quieter but still had a bright and welcoming atmosphere and lovely sense of space.
Buggles And Squeak
On arrival we noticed that the space is quite large, bright and busy. We are seated quickly, but then had to wait some time before anybody came to take our order. The menu offers many of the usual suspects - breads, antipasti, pasta, pizza and a few meat dishes. We chose to go for an entree each as well as a couple of pizzas to share. Squeak ordered the Bocconcini di ricotta & spinaci . We weren't entirely sure what this translated to, but Squeak likes ricotta and spinach - so

Always great. I've been coming here for the last 10 years (back when it was at a different location) and this place never disappoints. Have had great waiters, great food, and a happy stomach every time. <br/>The goloso pizza is by far my favourite.
Salzano2009
Worst pizza. Ate here with my italian husband. The pizzas were shocking, a terrible meal.

More hits than misses.. Honestly, found that the pastas were mediocre (and extremely small servings - they look more like entree sizes) but the pizzas are absolutely delicious. one of the best pizzas that i've had, the base is just outstanding. the majority of the desserts are also home made, had the special that isn't on the menu (passionfruit cheesecake) and BEST CHEESECAKE EVER. it was just so light, fluffy and not too sweet, just perfect. <br/><br/>would go back for the pizza and the desserts, but would give pasta a miss.

Disappointing and arrogant waiter. I never write reviews, it' s either got to be amazing or so bad that I leave the restaurant angry, unfortunately it is the later in this case. It would have been a normal pleasant casual meal until the bill arrived. I asked prior to ordering if they did children's meals and the waiter said yes they can do a child version of the various pastas, of which he mentioned the gnocchi, so I said great we'll have the gnocchi for our 5 year old son. The waiter did explain that the child version was just with a plain napolitana sauce and I said ok fine. However i was charged the full adult main price as it turned out! <br/>After I questioned this, I was told quite bluntly that " I told you it was a full serve" which is not true! Instead of saying sorry, it was a miscommunication and taking some money off the bill, I was met with the waiter being very rude and telling me another two times, I told you it was a full serve, like I was being scolded like a school child! So I had to pay the full amount and paid more for my 5 year olds meal than my own! BTW the gnocchi was not very good the gnocchi I buy from Aldi is better, seriously! It really wouldn't have taken much to appease me, offer a small discount, instead their arrogant insistence at me paying the full price has led me to write this review. Very very silly on their part.

Went to the Post tonight with family, the feel of the place was cold and univiting, prices were not aligned with the size of the meals. Got drinks, iced coffee was not sweet,Margherita pizza was plain taste and looking, gnocchi was entree size(for my main) and tasteless and the lasagnes were cold. Mentioned to the waiter and he said new pieces were to come out, on return we got the same reheated. Still ate it as we were hungry and couldn't wait any longer as it took long enough. At time of paying the bill the man at the register was rude and did not think that a discount was warranted, after discussion that became heated from his side we recieved a discount at his disgust and basically told never to come back. Wanted a nice evening with good food - got crap food, service and rudeness! Never again or will pass compliments.

Worth a visit. The other reviews pretty much sum it up. Good food, good service. The owner came out to have chat with our table, which is a rare and appreciated thing these days. Great place.

Refreshing Arvo. Even though the two of us just had coffee after having had lunch elsewhere, we were welcome to a neat table inside a smart set up indoors. We did consider dessert but just had no more room for this. The cashier had a sense of humour even if I sensed he was the boss. The staff attending to us managed a smile. This was a contrast to some of the unfriendly and (I suspect) frustrated staff working in one or two of competitor restaurants nearby in Haberfield.

Tasty, tasty Italian. A regular destination whenever the feeling for Italian strikes, their pizza's and pasta's have never let me down. I often see italian families having get together's here, which goes to show how good the food is.<br/><br/>The head waiter and owner have always given a warm welcome and their staff provide great service. <br/><br/>If you're a fan of true Italian wood fired pizza and fresh pasta, this place is definitely worth a try.<br/><br/>My top picks: Toscana Pizza, Margarita Pizza with added pepperoni, and the Spaghetti Marina. If you're feeling adventurous, order the Chilli Crab with added spaghetti.<br/><br/>TIP: To spice things up, ask for chilli oil to dip the pizza crusts in!<br/><br/>BYO is available too.

Great food. - Typical Haberfield Italian. Just like all of the great Haberfield Italian restaurants, this place is packed, they are usually frantically busy and the food is great. We waited AGES for our pizza because they do a roaring take away trade. But the Pizza rocked! As I said in another review, go in peak periods and expect to wait, try to complain and they won't hear you over the din of the customers, many of whom are happy for you to leave cause they want your table! Service was actually pretty good on the night we went

Revolting. While the staff were friendly and the pizza was very good, though not as good as across the road, my friend and I both chose the pasta with broccoli and Italian sausage, which was on the specials board and I can honestly say I never eaten so little of a meal at a restaurant in my whole life! The whole plate was grey...grey broccoli, grey little lumps of gristle and a horribly overcooked clump of pasta and had the taste of bitter brussel sprouts! No exaggeration!

Amazing Pizza. This place has got a few tough acts to follow. That whole strip in Haberfield is very good, but Haberfield post takes the cake. The staff are friendly, it's always packed, and the food is the most consistent of all the Haberfield pizzerias. I love it!

Il Goloso - Bellisimo!. Born and bred in this great city I've had some amazing culinary experiences throughout my lifetime but I have never felt compelled to write a review on a foodie website up until now. After our experience at Il Goloso this weekend I couldn't wait to show my gratitude to the owners of this restaurant, Tony and his wife by posting this review. Basically my husband and I were eager to find a lovely Italian restaurant in our area in which to have our daughter's christening lunch. We were excited at the prospect of trying a range of Italian restaurants and deciding which would be the nicest for our daughter's Christening. Il Goloso was the second place we tried and we were pretty much decided after our first course, fried calamari with an aioli. Basically everything we'd chosen was so incredibly tasty we knew we couldn't go wrong with this place as the choice for our function. <br/>Well we were glad we did because we couldn't have chosen a better place. The food was absolutely delicious and abundant (and that's an understatement!). The calamari fritti cooked to perfection, the pasta platters, al dente and the meat dishes very tender and tasty. Many of our guests were Sicilian and commented on how delicious the food was but my parents, the ultimate food critics, were raving about it. We were also so well looked after by Tony and he couldn't do enough to ensure that our experience was nothing short of exceptional. Being from an Italian background myself, many of my relatives brought sweets and cakes. Tony was lovely enough to put these on platters, plate them up on separate plates and then at the end individually wrap pieces of the iced fruit cake for the guests to take home. I just couldn't believe this generosity. I was also so grateful that he was happy to allow the children to sit on a completely separate table to do drawing and play with their iPads etc.. Nothing at all was too much to ask. I just couldn't believe it. So it is with huge pleasure that I write this review and say that if you are looking for a lovely personalised family restaurant for your function or a nice place to go with your family or friends for honest to goodness homely Italian cooking and hospitality you can't go wrong with Il Goloso - especially if half your family is Italian! Thank you so much Il Goloso, you made our special day.

Pizza Only. Our large group had dinner there on Saturday night, we regularly eat out as a group with up to thirty people. Very disappointed with the food and service. Starters and entree of pasta were OK but the tomato sauce too intense, no subtlety at all. The mains were atrocious. Zuchini flowers stuffed with something tasting strongly of anchovy then way overcooked were simply disgusting. My veal was ok but the vegetables served with it were oily and inedible became even worse after sending them back to be cooked properly. Unfortunatly the waiter was prepared to argue with me about how it was the way they did it, an idiot. Management did not care they only pretended to care they only wanted our money. if you have to go, stick to the pizzas.

Forgotten. Went there about 12 months ago. Nice looking building. A busy Friday but we were led in and seated. We waited, waited, and waited, whilst trying to get attention from the staff until someone eventually came up at about 8:00pm and asked us what we wanted for desert! We ordered some seafood for a main and got basically a thin saucy fluid with scraps of seafood within. My partners food was a little bit better so we shared. The staff looked overworked and unable to cope. They should have told us that they had enough customers. I guess they just wanted our dollars. Evening was ruined. We would never go there again.

BUONISSIMO. We booked this restaurant with a set menu for 30 people which included, ANTIPASTO, SEAFOOD,GARLIC BREAD,DIFFERENT PASTAS WITH DIFFERENT SAUCES,VEAL,CHICKEN FILLET,GARDEN SALADS,AND COFFEE all cooked to perfection.<br/>The seating was very spacious with plenty of room to move around and socialise with friends during the evening.<br/>The service was prompt yet well spaced out between courses leaving enough time between each meal to allow comfortable discussions between friends.<br/>The waiters were excellent in service and very courteous coupled with a professional approach to ensuring we had our meals delivered at a very reasonable pace.We certainly weren't being rushed. <br/>All plates and cutlery were replaced with clean ones for each course. The room we dined in was extremely clean and tidy and very comfortable in ambience as it was a very cold Sunday night outside. <br/>30 people of different age groups had a fabulous evening but most important, the birthday girl thoroughly enjoyed the evening and was very, very pleased we had chosen THE HABERFIELD POST as the venue for her birthday.<br/>This is the third time we have dined here and the standard of food, service and value for money, is still one of the best for the inner west.
Vanessa
Nothing spectacular. Pretty standard. Not amazing but it does the job. Pizza was a little on the soggy side, I got a supreme, and the pasta had a good sauce and tasted good, but not the usual BLOW YOUR TASTE BUDS OUT OF THE PARK kind of deliciousness that usually goes with a lot of jabber field restaurants.<br/>Won't be back but it wasn't bad at all.
Dave
Great restaurant if you like garbage. Just came back from that restaurant and was not happy at all. My wife got a deal on groupon for a sea food platter and entree at 50% off the price. When we arrived, the restaurant looked nice and I was really looking forward to eating there as they had some wines displayed on the walls from the region my father was born in Italy. The garlic pizza starter was nice, but that's when it went downhill. The sea food platter came out and was such a letdown, I have been to plenty of other restaurants that offered much more seafood for less money. The platter came out on a bed of rotten lettuce, all the fish was dry, except for the scampi that tasted nice, the mussels were cold and tasteless and the fish fillets were full of bones that we could not eat them....there were even fillets. The platter was so small and didn’t have any side dished or any sauce or any taste at all that. I had to stop at MacDonald’s on the way home and pick up a burger (which was much better value for money than this restaurant). If I had to pay the full $150.00 which was the regular price for this meal would have walked out. And to make matters worse, my wife and I ordered a few extra drinks above the groupon deal which we were more than happy to pay for, but when it came time to paying manager would not accept efpos telling me he had a $20 minimum and made me walk to the bank to get cash out to pay him.....This restaurant is terrible and I will never go back.

Great Italian feel. This restuarant is what you would expect of an Italian place nice fresh food, ol skool Italian music. good service from friendly Italian staff, whether i go with my family or friends this place has yet to let me down - love dining here

Great pizza and pasta. We have been coming here for 5+ years now. We tend to book for Friday and Saturday dinner before 7-30pm as when the place is full it can be very noisy and service slow. Pizzas and pasta are great - fresh ingredients. Good value.

What a great place!! We will be back!. I bought groupon deal for 4 people to try the place out and was very surprised how good the place was. Great food, fresh and generous portion. My fav is the pizza with fresh prosciutto. A great service and we will be going back very shortly.
Jess
I was invited by a friend via a groupon voucher tonight. Expecting the usual bad service that normally comes along with these I didn't have the highest of expectations - boy was I proven wrong. We were seated next to the pizza making station which was great as we saw the freshness of the ingredients being prepared from the freshly shaved proscitutto to the pizza dough it was great. Food was so good, seriously the best Italian iv eaten out ever. Service was nothing short of friendly and warm although I was there mid week so can't say how it goes on the weekend. If your looking for a full belly that's worth very penny seriously consider this place. I will definitely be back
Sabina
Could not wait to leave this review - the best Groupon I have ever purchased. The atmosphere in the restaraunt is of a small family pizzeria, warm and comfortable. Myself and my friend were greeted and seated by the owner who was courteous and warm. The waitstaff recommended our dishes for us, and the food left us breathless. The entrees were aromatic and succulent - the garlic prawns were cooked to perfection, and even the garlic bread was out of the world. We have already decided that we're coming back before the mains came out - and that sealed the deal. We got a pasta and a pizza to share. The pasta was home made, and rich but succulent, and the pizza was generously dressed with prosciutto that must have been just sliced - yum!!!! We couldn't finish the pizza which was promptly packed for us and the waiter was out to bid us goodbye. <br/><br/>We are defenately going back - Il Galoso set a new standard in Italian food for me.
Coco Loca
Left waiting for over an hour for out mains whilst others around us received their food before us, though ordered well after. Very Disappointing! Do not come here if you want an enjoyable night out! Plenty of alternate GOD Italian restaurants in Haberfield to spend your hard earned on!
Bluemoooon
Bit of a mix up with our reservation, but it was sorted without a fuss. The menu has a good variety, but not so much that it's bewildering. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, they completely made the experience. The food is good, not exactly to my personal taste, but there was nothing I could fault about it. All in all it was pleasant and fuss free night, and we left feeling satisfied and well looked after.
Yvonne
Terrible dinning experience. We were totally forgotten by the restaurant, sitting there for 1 and half hours unattained after we finished the entry. Food were good but the service just terriable
DB
Quiet Sunday, hot summer evening. The aircon was off and still after 20 mins no one came to welcome our large group or offer water, let alone take a drinks order. The table of 17 was welcomed around the corner at a rival pizzeria after we got up and left.
