Review Hahndorf Chinese Restaurant - Hahndorf

Had a really satisfied meal last night with my husband. We ordered two dishes and a fried rice. Their portion was generous and the food was delicious. Waitress was friendly and service was fantastic! Would like to come back next time for other dishes.

This restaurant has been around for the last 40 plus years. With its authentic and cosy atmosphere and great food, its a place to enjoy good food in Hahndorf.

Was hoping we found a decent Chinese takeaway that was closer to home, however we were let down again. Honey chicken was very different than the traditional kind we’re used to (sliced breast and quite gingery) and the satay beef was way too sweet and shouldn’t be sweet at all. Very let down after reading all the good reviews and I can only assume that these people must love added sugar in their meals as that was all I could taste. Quite pricey for the portion sizes too. Gave three stars (rather than less) as their fried rice was great and service was friendly, however for good Chinese in the Hills we’ll stick to Balhannah.

Owner needs to try takeaway from Cathay Court @ Brooklyn Park as an improvement to your business model. If you make your dishes and take away like theirs .... You will have a line up down the road nightly...seriously check it out ... You'll be booked out just doing takeaway. Dishes were a bit small for the price, and so much onion. But ok 👍

I love this restaurant and have been eating there for a very long time. The food is delicious and if you order a favourite you know it will be as good as the last time you had it. The staff are polite and very efficient. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. It's my favourite place to eat and would defineately recommend it.

Can safely say I’ve been coming here my whole life and still to this day this is my favourite Chinese place. The Mongolian Lamb will always be my favourite recommendation for a main. Always friendly staff, best Chinese food, what more could you want?

I’ve been coming to this restaurant for 16 years and I’ve never been disappointed. This is my family’s favourite Chinese restaurant and we only speak highly of this place! The food is absolutely delicious especially their Satay Beef and Mongolian Lamb. The waitresses are lovely to talk to and willing to make your experience with them perfect and comfortable! There is parking out the back so don’t be put off that it’s on a busy street. Don’t hesitate to eat here, you won’t be disappointed!

The dishes we had were too sweet, and Mongolian Lamb shouldn’t be. The serves were a bit small, at restaurants in the city with the same order we’d have heaps left over. Given the small dishes, high prices and average food, I’d give this place a miss. I guess hill folk are easily pleased.

Great food and incredible people. The service here is always great. All of my friends and family live for their amazing fried rice! The food is of spectacular quality and I would definitely recommend!

Nothing exceptional and I can’t understand why this was considered a good location for a Chinese place. Sure, in small town Australia there is always a Chinese place, but there are just so many better options than this.

Had a large group order, dine-in. We waited over an hour for our food, and watched people come in after us and get their food first. People who came in after us LEFT before we'd gotten our food. There were no apologies from the staff, just excuses. The food wasn't that good for the price either. The only positive was the kind waitress. She could have handled it differently (and apologised on behalf of the business) but I think she tried her best and it was out of her control.

If you're in the mood for good Chinese food, you're going to have to bury your expectations at the Hahndorf Chinese Restaurant. The service is friendly and efficient but the food is at best only okay - it is certainly not authentic by a long stretch. To be fair, this is at least consistent with the kitsch approach undertaken by most eateries in Hahndorf. It's just been applied to Chinese food instead of German food. I think I was only disappointed because, even though we entered this restaurant in humour, it didn't live up to our already low expectations of Westernised Chinese. The sweet and sour pork was just the same as the other dishes we'd ordered except with a different sauce. It wasn't even deep friend or covered in the expected red sauce! Unfortunate :(

If you're after Western Chinese food you can't go wrong. Sweet and Sour Pork, Lemon Chicken and the Special Fried Rice were awesome!! Will be coming back!

$45.50 for lemon chicken, fried rice, and some noodles? Not worth it. Food was okay, definitely can find better chinese places in the city..

I visit this family owned and run restaurant several times a year. Im a big fan of the satay prawns which are extremely well priced, cooked in a tasty sauce, and you get a good number on the plate. Prawns are crisp and fresh and with a special fried rice you cant go wrong. While the restaurant has an older ambiance about it it is clean and the service has always been exceptional. I think it is a comfortable dining experience. Im not fussed if the food is westernised - that's a personal thing. I have recommended this restaurant to friends and based on the high cost of some pretty ordinary hotel meals Ive experienced in recent times, Im happy to keep coming back here.

Regular chinese. If you're in handorf and you want chinese it's a good place to check-out but definitely would not drive all that way for it. It was very westernised chinese food to the point of actually using western ingredients instead of chinese ones, which is always a let down. I recommend the sticky pork because that was tasty but otherwise even the rice was a let down. The space was nice, and the service was great. They were accommodating and cheerful and made sure we were enjoying ourselves. All in all, I wasn't blown away and probably will not be back but still better than a lot of other chinese places I've been.

Robert Mayne. Don't go. It's disgusting ... your nightmare about every suburban or country Chinese restaurant. Honey prawns, fried rice and poor service. Wine list is terrible, little choice and grossly overpriced. BYO $15 a bottle!!

Just Beautiful. Ordered a take away and the food was divine. While ordering the food I noticed the nice decor too. I was served by Nancy who was very friendly and helpful in making our choice. Thank you Nancy, your choices made for us was perfect. Will see you again and look forward to another meal at your restaurant.

Pretty standard. I suppose it's a break from the German food that's so popular in Hahndorf. The food was ok, but the two mains were brought out really far apart. The waitress was apologetic.

Would only eat here if I was sick of German food and wanted something a little different.

Fantastic Meal. I had dinner here the other night with my family on Sunday night. We have had takeaway from here over the last few years on a semi-regular basis and always had good food. This is only the second time that we have dined in. The atmosphere was great - colourful but intimate and modern. The service was exceptional and the food was great. I had Szechuan Chicken which was just spicy enough. Highly recommended.
