Review The Cafe 1839 - Hahndorf

Cafe 1839 was great. The friendly service and detailed recommendations were welcomed and appreciated! A great range of food and drink to cover breakfast, brunch and lunch. Generous food portions and the only thing stopping a 4 star being a 5 star is slightly higher prices than similar offered products elsewhere locally. Out door dining with blankets for winter but not a lot of under cover to escape the hot sun. Great little kids corner to help keep the little ones entertained.

Had late breakfast here yesterday and I enjoyed their food. My breakky bruschetta came with well seasoned mushrooms and tomatoes. The egg also had the right texture. The staffs were welcoming even though we arrived at a busy time. Plus, the overall design of the place also feels warm and makes you enjoy your meal more. They make good coffee which is enough reason for me to come back.

Cute little building that's cosy inside. Friendly service and yummy food. Some seating indoors but most seating is outside. Food came quickly despite being very busy. :) Nice relaxing music playing.

Staff 5/5, food quality 5/5, food range 4.5/5. Very satisfied experience with nicely done pumkin soup and the benedict was too good with it too!

Café 1839 is truly the perfect place to go if you need a quick breakfast, morning coffee or a nice lunch. Quick service, very hospitable staff and cleanliness was maintained. I know that I will not be the only one going back there often. The sitting area inside is not spacious but the delicious food items definitely make up for it. Undoubtedly an excellent little spot for brunch.

Visited this cafe recently and was thrilled with their 1898 burger, which did not disappoint. I would highly recommend this place for brunch with friends when stopping by Hahndorf. It was genuinely the best burger I have eaten, and for an affordable price.

Cafe 1839 on the Main Street of Hahndorf is delightful retro fitted, modern Main Street Cafe. Good lunch menu, at affordable prices. Friendly staff, with good service. I enjoyed the visit along with a good coffee. The venue was busy, tourists with a good eye for value.

I would not like to write about the food because we have waited for nearly an hour, something wrong with time management, just don't get how much time to cook and prepare the foods! We have to shorten our trip to other place, wasting our time!!!

Coffee's very good which had surprised me in this town. Especially my wife, she love flat white here very much. Strongly recommended, don't miss it!

Cafe not disability-friendly. Long wait time (1 hour), Calamari rings were rubbery and hard. After walking up and down the main street looking for a suitably quiet but nice place to eat for me and my 2 children, both who have autism, we spotted Cafe 1839. The quietness of the Cafe and the lunch menu board out the front seemed enticing and in we went to order 3 Calamari, chips and salad meals. We waited 1 hour for our meals to be brought to the table and the Cafe was not busy at all, with only 5 other customers in the Cafe. We were not advised about the extremely lengthy wait time for meals to be brought out, but every other person who walked into the Cafe after us were told about the wait time being around 45 minutes to an hour. Calamari does not take long to cook, nor do hot chips or salad to make. I was very disappointed - our Calamari was rubbery, and very difficult to chew/eat and that night we were left with pains in our stomachs from the food we ate. When dining, I complained to the staff member about the Calamari and the first thing she said was "oh it is fresh", which felt as if she was defending the quality of the produce. The calamari was not fresh and it was poorly cooked, contributing to the state that it was, being hard and rubbery. This has been the worse eating experience of my life, nothing pleasant or nice about eating in this Cafe. We drove over 1 hour to get to Harndorf expecting a lovely afternoon with great food and a nice outing for my children who have disabilities. We did not get to experience this thanks to Cafe 1839. We were offered no reimbursement, not even a complimentary drink to compensate for our lengthy weight time and disappointing eating experience. The staff member was aware my children were autistic and that I asked a number of times when the meals would be brought out as the children were becoming unsettled from the wait - no compassion or understanding. I was also thinking this might be a hidden gem for eating among many of the bigger and more crowded cafes and eating places. I was expecting to receive good quality food, but received nothing close to that. Such a let-down. Cafe 1839 is not child-friendly and does little to accommodate people with disabilities who dine there.

Disappointing cafe in beautiful Hahndorf. Was thoroughly disappointed by this cafe - it looked like it was going to be a quaint little gem in the beautiful touristy town of Hahndorf.

Service was poor, tables out the front not cleared promptly. Food over priced for poor presented offerings. Was craving a chocolate milkshake and was presented with a glass of weakly flavoured milk with a chunk of poor quality ice cream floating on top. Mains took a long time to come, I ordered a steak sandwich and my partner ordered the fish and chips. Fish tasted suspicious, not fresh at all. Steak sandwich had a fried egg on top that had congealed in the wait to be served. Wilted side salad drowned in dressing.

Did not even finish the meal - left dissatisfied.
