Review Larsen And Co - Hampton

Rachel Kollias
Fabulous place for lunch. Great menu with something to please everyone. A nice twist on the usual cafe fare. Both meals today were spot on and service was excellent. Great coffee too. Yum.

Massive coffee cups, lovely pot of tea that went well with the highly delicious brekky! Cheese options are tasty and the eggs were delicious! I came with a girlfriend to catchup over brekky. The service was friendly and they refilled the teapot with hot water for us too which was a lovely touch.

Being locals, my husband and I have tried most coffee places in Hampton and the near vicinity, so I can say with certainly that Larsen & Co has the best coffee! The blend they use, coupled with their ability to make exceptional coffees (let's be honest if you can perfect a soy latte, then enough said!), is why we continue to frequent Larsen. The staff are always friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable and laid back. The cafe is dog friendly, which is always a bonus watching the many fur babies who also come here. The menu is modern, with a contemporary twist on classic meals. The banana pancakes with passion fruit mascarpone are a must, while their take on smashed avocado and toast is also a favourite. Highly recommend Larsen & Co to all locals or anyone passing through Hampton!

Love this café. Had their chilli scrambled eggs on toast with crispy shallots, fresh coriander & pork belly. It was delish! Eggs were beautifully cooked and has slight kick of the chillies which I love.

Fantastic breakfast here. The wait staff did make an error with our order - but then not only did they refund the cost of the two dishes we'd received (and eaten 😳!) in error, but they insisted on bringing us the correct dish - on the house! Great service. Really yummy food. If we lived in Melbourne, we'd be regulars here. 🙂

I liked it. Alasdair is heading to Italy on Wednesday to continue his research, while I stay in Melbourne, working days and moonlighting as a husky physics tutor. The coffee here is good - we chose to come here over all other cafes on Hampton street. I had an espresso. Espresso generally is not as beautiful as it was in the mid-late 2000s, and Larsen and Co, perhaps in reference to its Scandinavian styling, is a little light on the pours from the machine. I like it like it used to be- thick, heavy, maybe not as refined/ delicate as what I had today, but of a certain rustic charm. Reminiscent of the Eagle Leather bar in NYC before most of the scene went online. Visceral. That is fine. Tastes change. Certainly the coffee here was good. Alas and I had a good time. I am just rambling. Thanks Larsen

Recently caught up with some local friends and decided to meet for breakfast at this cafe. Didn’t even get chance to sit down and we we pressured for our drinks order. So we nicely told the waitress to give us a menu & time to look over. Not 2 minutes past and again looking for drinks order! This approach from the waitress continued throughout our breakfast!! Not soon as a meal finished the plate was whisked away, which was totally annoying. Must say this breakfast experience was unacceptable as there are so many eating places local.

Best meal we’ve had out in a long time! Wonderful selection on the menu, food is always delicious! Well catered to any allergies, I have coeliac disease, the staff and chef were more than helpful and very friendly. Would recommend to anyone looking for a 5 star meal!

This café is right in the heart of Hampton. The Superfood Salad was delish – it had broccoli, cauliflower, kale, sweet potato, quinoa, pomegranate, feta and almonds. Everything was cooked perfectly and there was so much flavour – I ate every last bite. Soy latte was also spot on and came out nice and quick.

I can’t wait to come back and try some more of their menu, especially the dinner menu!

Smashed Avocado & Feta w. Chilli & Roast Tomatoes 🍅
@larsenandco

A gorgeous dish with simple ingredients which work so well together! A bit of heat from the chilli, some acidity from the tomato & freshness from the lemon really give this dish a well balanced & very enjoyable vibe 👌🏼 😉

Had dinner at Larsen and Co. and it was really lovely! I had the salmon and my husband had pumpkins tortellini and we were both really happy with our meals! Also had the calamari as entre and it was beautifully cooked! Not huge serving sizes but enough and really lovely flavours! I’d definitely go back.

[Coffee Review]
Had a brief wait for a train out of Hampton today so called past Larsen and Co for a take away coffee. They were in the throws of closing so was much appreciated that they got me my caffeine kick for the afternoon. (I was lacking in energy). Coffee had a good oomph to it and I would defiantly like to try some of those sweet treats in the cabinet when Larsen & Co are “more open”.

Happiness goes a long way.

I’m always in the search for new cafes to have breakfast at and today I landed here!

At first glance the cafe seems cute, fresh, clean and open with natural light. I ordered a coffee and the potato rosti.

The coffee was ok. But only ok and it wasn’t hot either. And the breakfast. Well it looked good! The potato rosti was a little bland. I mean, it was alright, but it could be so much better!

And then there was the waiter/manager (maybe)...
He didn’t smile once, he barley said one word to me and he just didn’t look happy at all. A small smile, some lightness and a bit of happiness in the staff, goes a long way in the experience of the customer.

Overall it was comfortable and nice, but the food coffee was just alright.

They’ve just started doing dinner here so we thought we would check it out. Food was great And the service was really friendly.
Highly recommend

Never fails to impress me the size of the coffees, scrumptious chilli scrambled eggs. Would recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a nice breakfast in Hampton

Ordered the Panna Cotta an Iced Chocolate, kids pancakes and a kids milkshake. Flavours were good across-the-board, didn't get to try the milkshake though as the little one smashed it down before I could get a chance.

Panna Cotta although wasn't presented in the conventional way, did still have the right flavour and the dish itself was nice, I think it was just a little mushy and if set properly would make the dish better.

Pancakes were yum. Banana pancakes with syrup was a winner for both dad and son.

Roaming around on a public holiday in Hampton & we found Larsen! Loved the vibe & service. Sitting outdoors on a chilly day, the food got cold quite quickly. Nonetheless we still had a good time.

Had breakfast here today and will not be returning service was slow the food was worse. Had the big breakfast which has some dry beans that tasted 10 days old over sauced and bitter, tasteless sausages and the fried eggs were not cooked enough and still clear, the plus which was half a plus was the bread and all for $21....the chef must have been having a bad day or simply didn't really care what he was preparing from what we noticed much better places to eat along this busy street, how this place has even a 3 star rating which is still low is beyond me!!!

Larsen and Co has become more popular in the suburb, clearly one of the best additions on Hampton St. I've visited this cafe two different occasions recently and this is my two cents about this cafe. Good food and coffee. Nice and clean fit-out and tables on side way. However, service here has been up and down in those occasions. On my last visit, the waitresses is disinterested in serving customers and looks bored which does not look good for the establishment at all.
To sum this up, it's still a great cafe to pay a visit. Am I returning? Yes and hope to be served with genuine smile. 😬

Looked like a nice little cafe as I walked past. Bright and well styled. That all went down hill when I entered. I had to ask for a menu. The staff weren't overally great. Menu average as was the food.

Today early morning had a lovely chai latte at Larsen and Co.
Never had a chai latte like this. Will be back soon.
Thanks to make my day guys.

This is a little gem in Hampton st that has happy friendly staff and great coffee! Food is fresh and inviting. Frequent regularly and have not been disappointed!
Is now very popular so hard to get a table at times!
What a find this cafe was! We were simply walking about in the area and were drawn to the open design of the cafe. The staff were very warm and welcoming as soon as we stepped in. As a smashed avo fiend, I was very interested to try their addition of chilli in this classic dish (Avocado Feta Smash with Chilli and Fresh Herbs), which turned out to be a great choice, it was just a twist on the standard avo and feta combination. The atmosphere was great - pleasant design, and a wonderful outdoor space. Definitely would want to come back out here to try more of their menu!

Had breakfast yesterday with my husband. Lovely girl served us, GF bread was great and a lovely dog friendly place but I'm afraid that's where all the positives ended. Had the chili scrambled with pork belly, so greasy I couldn't eat mine (my hubby was starving so ate more!) my side of mushrooms was so salty, we told our waitress, but the kitchen weren't interested in the feedback and stared out my husband when he paid (for everything!) we didn't really care about getting stuff off the bill but it speaks volumes when restaurants still charge when you can't even eat the food. Very disappointing
Great location. Excellent creative breakfast options & plenty of outside space for sitting with our dog.
I recommend the chili scramble or the folded eggs!
Try it out

Have been here twice and will definitely be going back - had the toasted granola the first time which was delicious and the super food salad the second time both which were incredible and the serving sizes are super generous. Cosy little laneway gem in Hampton, friendly staff and fresh bright decor. Just a little small and at busy times it can be difficult to get a table.

This is only our second visit here but we will be co ing back again soon. Friendly staff and a bright welcoming cosy cafe. We ordered the granola and French toast with gluten free bread and it was fantastic. Generous serving for the price.

Dropped in for a coffee with my daughter today, we enjoyed a delicious muffin and great coffee. Highly recommend this place to anyone in the Hampton area.
Friendly service, great atmosphere and delicious food and coffee. The menus offers great value breakfast and lunch. Can't wait to try one of their homemade soups on the weekend.

Passed by here on my way to work for some coffee and tried the coffee. It was ok I guess, not as creamy and smooth as I expect seeing as the outside design seems quite attractive and makes you think 'this place must be good'! Alas, I wouldn't recommend. Service was also a bit lacklustre.

This new kid on the block brings a Scandinavian inspired menu to Hampton. Friendly staff and lovely cafe interior. Our chai latte we ordered was forgotten about until we reminded them. The waiter apologised profusely and offered it free of charge. We were impressed with the potato rosti and the smorrebrod however the fritters were ordinary and lacked flavour. With a few tweaks, there is lots potential for this cafe.

Decided to try this place for coffee. The taste of the bean was very average, a bit bitey and lacked richness.

The interior is cool Scandinavian, however very loud and voices echoed. Not the best place if you are after a good coffee and quiet time to read the weekend paper. The way the tables are set out made the space feel very crammed.

A positive was the friendly staff and light filled space.

Overall, very much enjoyed my first visit to Hampton Street's newest cafe. My rosti was crispy and the braised beef was flavourful, with a delicious labneh rounding everything off. I sampled my girlfriend's beans and they were great too! Felt a little cramped in the narrow setting, but aside from that, enjoyed our first experience here.

Great new place in Hampton! Love the outdoor laneway area, great food and coffee. I had the rosti with beef cheek, and my friend had the zucchini chicpea and corn fritters. Both were fantastic. Highly recommend.

Only got takeaway coffee from this new cafe. Fairly good coffee, a tad too hot and $4 so a bit more expensive that other cafes in the street. Won't replace my usual local coffee place. Close to the station and opens at 7am. Nice modern fit out. Had a look at the menu and a few interesting options. Will be back to try out the food.
The Pierced Palate
A nice new addition to Hampton St. Beautiful setting, different menu as to what other cafes in the area have to offer & friendly staff - They certainly brought the Melbourne cafe style scene to this suburb.
But the food was just ok though. The rosti with braised beef cheeks - would have been better if they didnt deep fry the rosti, it was soaked with oil & it would have hit the spot if the beef cheeks were a bit more moist but it wasnt dry either, the labneh made up for that.
The benedict - the pulled pork was really dry & plating up of the pork would have been more appealing if it was scattered, compared to it being moulded on the muffin which also makes the dish look smaller in portion size. Their apple hollaindaise went really well with the dish, gave it more life & zing to it. Both dishes needed a good proper seasoning of salt though.
Still early days for this beautiful place, but will probably come back to try the other items on the menu.

Left hungry and out of pocket, possibly the highest prices for coffee on the street, surprising for such a densely filled street of cafes and coffee shops, food portions where much smaller then expected
I do really like the layout of the cafe, but not enough to keep me coming back

Tried this spot for brekky. Nice interior, great service but with lots of competition near by.... 4.50 for a regular takeaway coffee is a bit steep

New to Hampton Street, Larsen & Co has a good menu, and friendly personable staff. Was slightly surprised at the $4 for a regular coffee (really?!), as well as the portion size of my pikelets. They were delicious, fresh lemon curd and a lovely crunch, and inexpensive, but I would prefer to have paid a few extra dollars and have a breakfast that didn't leave me starving. Finished it off in a few bites and felt a bit greedy ordering a second meal once my friends were done. The Benedict meat patty is different, and was sadly quite dry. Coffee here is nice, it has ample outdoor seating and a laid back vibe, but I think if you're hungry, lean toward the most expensive side of the menu, or order two of the Under $16s.

We were excited that a new cafe had opened on Hampton street decided to give it a go this morning for breakfast. Waiter was pretty lack lustre. Food was ordinary a lady sitting at the next table had a taste of her dish and did not eat at all. Waiter removed plate which was almost untouched no question of why etc. sorry Larsen u need to lift your game if u are going to survive the food game. Won't be back there are much better places in the area.

A newcomer to the Hampton St shopping strip and I'm glad they arrived. It has been super busy here since it's opening which is always a good sign.
Like many new Melbourne cafes, Larsen & Co has been fitted out with a modern, fresh and attractive decor. It is located with a little lane way next to it and they have cleverly used this space to have outdoor seating, which was my preference (Dog friendly).
The service was great and the coffee and food lived up to the high standards we have come to expect from cafes in the area.
Being an early morning I opted for a large cappuccino and boy was it large. I mean large. Order at own risk - but i loved it!
In terms of food I ordered the Porridge that was topped with pecan brittle and poached pear and it was impressive. It was a large serve size and presently perfectly. Smooth, creamy and the crunch of the brittle was a needed touch.
The smashed avo on toast with a side of bacon and scrambled eggs was also top notch.
A great vibe and I am happy to have another top quality local joint.
