Review Zanadu Tapas Bar - Hampton

TinManFromAus
Now that we're in Zanadu..... Zanadu...... Zanadu is a cosy spanish tapas bar in Hampton. I went here as part of a Christmas celebration. We sat in the courtyard, it's a really nice space. Feels like you're in someone's backyard - very homely. We were treated to an array of tapas style dishes to begin with including some amazing croquettas, meatballs and calamari. The pièce de résistance was when the head chef made the paella in front of us, it was pure artistry. I wish someone would look at me the way she looked at the paella. It tasted good as well. There is a good selection of booze to wet the palate. You won't struggle to find a drink of your liking. Service was friendly, great atmosphere. The owners clearly know customer service and they do it with a smile. All in all, this place fits very nicely in Hampton. It's a great vibe, locals would be happy to have this as their local tapas bar. Wish I brought my rollerskates.

Amazing tapas bar, great friendly service. The food is amazing, you can taste it's all made fresh. The manager is very friendly and welcoming. The vibe makes you feel at home. Definitely recommended for small sharing plates or large plates (but sharing is caring 😍)

I thoroughly enjoyed my first trip to “Zaaaaanaduuuu...” on the weekend (yes, there was a lot of singing taking place)! We were invited to Zanadu for a foodie Christmas party. Immediately I noticed how friendly and welcoming the staff were - they showed us down to the back courtyard and immediately offered us a beverage. The Cava and the Rose were delicious! We were treated to some absolutely delightful tapas - I LOVED the calamari, and the croquettes were amazing - they tasted just like the ones in Barcelona. I highly recommend a visit here if you love indulging in quality tapas and wine!

Delicious! It was well worth the drive from the peninsula. The produce was fresh and the sauces were stunning. The service was great and we cant wait to return!

Nice place and staff. Food is really top notch but just a little pricey for me. Not so bad to keep me from visiting again though.

Good vibes, great cocktails, tasty wine. Would be good to see some darker beers enter then menu; maybe for winter.

There don't seem to be any contact details anymore for this restaurant, and we were gifted a $100 voucher for Zanadu right before they closed. Is someone from the restaurant able to please get in touch with me? Thank you

Visited on a weeknight, table for two. Ambience was good and had a Spanish feel to it.

We ordered salmon croquettes, chorizo and the octopus tapas. This was followed by the seafood paella. We finished a good night with their charcuterie cheese platter.

The place is well suited for catching up and having a conversation. The croquettes wer subtle and nice and the chorizo lacked some of the Spice found in more adventurous Spanish chorizos. The octopus was done well. The paella overall was tasty. It was cooked well. Paella is a dish that comes in so many variations of which some can appeal to some people and others not. I really like paella. This particular paella was good, not outstanding and again having visited Spanish themed establishments before tasted like something my friends and I could produce it home. It lacked killer flavours to make you want to say I have to go back there.

There was a fair selection of beers available and a limited and ok wine list. Spent $190 and that included one bottle of Argentinian malbec wine, two scooners and one Peroni. Overall price value equation is evenly divided between Patron and establishment.

What an amazing hidden gem!

Zanadu Tapas bar is run by some great people, and their passion is clearly reflected in their food. I recently came here for a Christmas party and sat outside in their courtyard (HIGHLY recommended on a hot day, it has cushions and shade!).

We were served various Tapas and Drinks, here are a few of my faves:

SALMON CROQUETTES - These were SO tasty, I haven't had salmon ones before and I don't usually love salmon, but this stood out to me! Maybe it was the cheese in it, but the flavour was on point.

SEAFOOD PAELLA - This is a MUST! I mean it would be rude to go to a Spanish place and NOT order Paella, right?! I absolutely loved the flavours in this, and the chef was absolutely gorgeous and so friendly. I saw her outside the restaurant taking photos with a happy family, who clearly loved her cooking too.

SPANISH ROSÉ - Usually I go for Sangria but was recommended to go the Rosé instead, very appropriate summer wine, went well with the food!

I'm giving this place 5 stars because the venue had both indoor and outdoor seating (very clean), the owners / workers were all genuinely lovely and seemed to really enjoy their work (it shows in their food) and there is a variety of menu options, so I feel like there is something for everyone!

Overall I just had a fabulous time here, so personally I feel like it deserves that 5 star rating! But please let me know if you any thoughts or queries, or your own experiences dining here :)

Rating 4.5 Stars 🌟
What a beautiful space this tapas bar is! I was lucky enough to attend a Christmas Party at Zanadu. We sat outside in their beautiful courtyard and were lucky to get a beautiful Melbourne summers day. They have a cosy space inside and more tables out the front if you want to ‘people watch’.
We enjoyed a beautiful selection of tapas and wines (they also have some superb bottles of spirits that are hard to find here in Melbourne).
But the highlight for me was the Paella! I must admit I was a paella virgin and the thoughts did cross my mind like ‘where have you been all my life’ 😜 Even though I’d never tried it before I just new it was amazing and of course my foodie friends confirmed this.
Thank you so much for such lovely service and a really wonderful experience Zanadu Tapas Bar 😊💗

Zanadu.

Right in the hustle and bustle of Hampton, you will find this gem, offering Spanish tapas, delicious paella and wonderful staff.

Prior to my visit here for a Christmas party in the courtyard, i had no idea of this incredible restaurant! But shortly after entering the warm and inviting restaurant, i was embraced by staff with genuine smiles, proud to work there and excited to let me into their joy of Zanadu.

With about 20 foodies standing, sitting and enjoying the ambience of the courtyard, we were met by the lovely owner who presented us with white wine, red wine and moscato. A great way to get the crowd going.

Not long after, beautiful tapas started arriving on our tables, ready for eager foodies to snap the perfect shot and delve into each dish. Arancini balls, meatballs, calamari, croquettes and tomato and olive toasts were placed in front of us. With each dish having their unique presentation, the food became perfect for Instagram and to perfect to be shared.

After numerous clicks, camera's were put down and now it came down to the actual taste of the food, because sure the food can look good, but if it tastes good, then the restaurant has done their job in securing happy customers who are most likely to return.

Having a taste of this, and a bite of that, i was quite satisfied with the taste of each dish.

But, no Spanish fiesta is complete without a massive paella. Made by the most incredible, positively fuelled woman, i was able to indulge in a fresh seafood paella, cooked right in front of me. I could take a bite, close my eyes and almost feel as though i was in Spain. The paella, and actually all the food in general was made with so much love. And you kind of don't get that everywhere.

Ending with some Churros and chocolate sauce, i was very satisfied with my afternoon spent at Zanadu and highly recommend for families, large groups, date nights and everything in between.

Thanks again for providing such a special christmas party,

Ice cream of Melbourne! Xxx

A sweet and humble Spanish Tapas bar in Hampton. The owners are what make this place what is it. They simply told me they want their food to, "make people happy".

Croquettes, arancini, chicken skewers, meatballs, paella & churros to name a few of the things I ate. Lets just say, I left a happy girl!

Loved this little tapas restaurant which invited in a gaggle of hungry foodies in their rear courtyard today. Just 9 months old and being booked out over much of the build up to Christmas it was great to be able to try out your menu.

We tried a variety of wines by the glass, sangria and beer (local and imported) and I discovered a new Spanish gin ( Siderit) that I am going to have to buy internationally.

The food was on point and we started up with a variety of entree including arancini and cheesy croquets. The chicken skewers were tender and others appeared to like the meatballs, I sadly missed out.

We had our own mixed paella cooked for us and I watched this dish being cooked slowly with every ingredient being added at the correct time for perfect cooking. Was resulted was perfectly cooked everything and it had a nice paprika spice to it.

Our meal was finished off with churros in a chocolate dipping sauce.

Zanadu has live music on Sundays and is open late for that late night drink. They are planning to tweak the restaurant layout in coming months with some exciting new fitouts planned to add to the alfresco feel at the front so watch this space.

We were invited to an event at Zanadu today (and I could not stop singing the song from that Olivia Newton John movie we all know and love) in the sunny outdoor courtyard. This is the perfect spot for an event with a group of 30 or so people. We sipped rosé whilst watching a paella being prepared right in front of us.

We tried a variety of entrees my favourite of which were the chicken skewers and calamari. The main event the paella was expertly cooked with perfectly tender seafood and extremely flavoursome rice. We finished off with the ever crowd pleasing freshly made churros dipped in chocolate sauce. What a way to end a meal!

We've lived in Bayside for 30 years and only just tried Zanadu for the first time last week - WOW! This has to be one of our new favourite local restaurants. The food is incredible, the tapas menu has so many dishes we want to try so we'll definitely be return customers.

For our first visit, we tried the croquetas, which has an incredible filling and the seafood paella, which had so much seafood, really fantastic value for money. The courtyard is a lovely space so I'd recommend sitting out the back, if possible.

Thanks for an amazing meal Zanadu, we'll be back for sure!

Great food and drink!
The atmosphere is incredible, easily one of the best places to have tapas in Melbourne! Can't wait to come back :)
