Review Fat Goose - Hardys Bay

Amazing that the place was pretty much empty when we walked in. We ordered from the take away menu as it was our intention at the time to just walk back to our house and eat on the way. We sat on a high table whilst we were waiting for our orders and then decided we may as well eat it there considering it would only take 5 mins. A waitress came out and then gave us a dressing down for eating take away on a dine in table and demanded we leave. This was all done quite aggressively and was not necessary. I would have thought that a couple of people filling the empty seats would have been a good look for the place. Anyway will never be back here, bad service people need to leave the business, it costs you customers …. Or …. Fix your processes guys

I attended with my wife for lunch. The location was nice and the customer service was ok. The food however was very disappointing. We ordered 2 burgers which were below par especially considering the price charged. The meat patties were thin and had a distinctly odd taste to them. I hope we do not come down with food poisoning. I left most of what I ordered on my plate.

Poor customer service and pricey. Ordered two large coffees for takeaway and then after waiting about 15 minutes they were made as regular. When I told the server her response was “well you paid for regular, that will be an extra dollar” .. but we paid the price we pay in Sydney for a large

We had lunch there this week and were very disappointed with the quality of the food. The BLT was very basic with one bit of each of lettuce, tomato and bacon on a small piece of bread. The presentation showed they couldn't care less about how their food looks. It was plonked on the table without any cutlery or napkins. It was not value for money, at all. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Go elsewhere.

Beautiful Mother's Day breakfast with family. We used to live across the road before this great cafe was there, wish it had been there 30 years ago 😊 a lovely complimentary glass of bubbly for the mother's 🍸🤩

Great spot in Killcare to have food, coffee and pastries. Everything is made fresh and delicious. Service is attentive and friendly. Take a break here after trekking the Bouddi National Park. Highly recommended.

bought the risotto and the portion sizing was awful. $23 and it’s only 4 mouthfuls. Was disappointing because it tasted nice however for $23 it was ridiculously small

Always have delicious food here. The coffee is lovely. Took a little while to get our food but was very nice overall. A great spot in Hardy's Bay!

Great service but the food was a disappointment. The size of the dish for Killcare Boathouse was small for the price listed and the taste was average.

On the surface this place looks great, the ambience, the quality produce and the care taken to image of the cafe makes you think this is a place you would come back to. Then you get to the service. The Fat Goose is clearly a locals only cafe as obvious outsiders are made to wait while a long line of locals who order after them get their orders filled first. If you are prepared to reward that type of behaviour and wait while being treated like a second class citizen then this is the place for you.

I must've been really unlucky, went to this cafe with 2 friends after a hike at the near by National Park. We all got a "main" and a "dessert". My friends were both happy and had a nice meal with their choices of baby octopus salad & mushroom burger. My salt & pepper squid looked nice and very generous in serving size (and I was hungry!), however it was terrible, the squid was soggy, oily and just melted away into mush, it tasted like it went straight from the freezer into the deep fryer. The desserts once again looked great, my friends had a croissant which was nice & crispy, and an apple crumble tart, tasted fine. Again my choice of lemon meringue tart turn out to be the dud. The sugar wasn't melted nor whipped properly, so the meringue was all grainy through out with the sugar. Not a good experience.

Waited for 50 minutes for a couple of very average burgers. No explanation or apology. The place was not even busy. Burger buns tasted stale. Only redeeming feature was cheery waitresses. Would not recommend. Try Yum Yum instead.

WAS our favourite until a spate of TERRIBLE waitstaff who were more interested in their iPhones rather than doing their job (and yes - i know the difference between their ordering tool and and iphone). It is very expensive, over $50 for eggs and toast plus coffee. Sorry FG - this local ain't ever coming back.

The Fat Goose is not fat at all. The Good: Near the watter but not front water. Backyard style setting.

The Bad: According to their website they won pie competition however if you have tried Heston Pie from Coles, not even near half of Heston Pie.

The Price: Pricy if you judge the food and the price they have charged for it.

Should we come back:

Solid caf. Interesting menu, great location, decent coffee. Food is solid rather than spectacular, but decent brekkie fare

Went there 1 minute after 3pm. The kitchen seemed closed at 3 pm so had to order a couple of pies. The price written was $5.50. When served with a few leaves it became 11. Ended up paying $30 for two coffees and two meat pies. To make thing worse my chicke n mushroom pie was cold. Overpriced and overrated. Will never return again.

A Little Sad. I really want to like this place... it seems to have all the right ingredients... good location, nice setting and a good menu with great take-away options... but twice now that I've been here I've been dissappointed.
This morning I wanted to treat my Mum to a nice Mother's Day breakfast with my Father and my two boys (hubby was out of town).
We arrived right on time for our booking, but didn't receive any water at our table, and we had to ask for menus.
Our drink order was taken early and received, but we had to wait 40minutes for our meal.
In our opinion, not great coffee... the service was ok, the girls were busy but still cheerful, but it just seemed that the meals took forever, and then the toast was stone cold and I had to ask for something fresh (so that the butter would at least melt).
Like I said I really want to like this place, I think it could be great. But unfortunately I wont be going back now to find out if it gets better.

Average. Not a bad little "café" which is more like a bakery. Taking advantages of being in the middle of nowhere by bumping up the prices isn't a excuse for a below average coffee. Take your time to make the coffee even if your busy and you will get return customers. I would rather have a slow good coffee than a quick nasty one...... Shame, nice place otherwise

$34 for a gourmet pie, croissant and two coffees? I'd say the name is suiting, little did i release the advertised $10 pie turned into $18.50 with a hand full of rocket. Also had to remind the staff to bring the croissant. Don't think I'll be back anytime soon

Always consistent. Often have coffee here on a Sunday, The coffee is always good, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is quite and peaceful, And they leave water bowls for your pup, that's a plus.

What's good for the gander .... A casual encounter at a cafe like the Fat Goose can have a major impact on one's life.
Such encounters most often start in the mundane, such as the natural adult desire for a good coffee. Then quickly you may find yourself submerged in a world of sensual delights. Fresh pastries, bread baked only hours and meters away, friendly banter from the not unattractive staff and the smells and sounds of fresh, wholesome and foods being in the half open kitchen.
You quickly realize that the owners have oddles of years in the industry. Applying their classy catering business experience to cafe.
Perhaps that's why you always find a smattering of local 'cafe addicts' seated around reading books, scribbling notes and slowly consuming the atmosphre. I heard that some came just for a quick coffee and found themselves moving to the village. Trading in their loose noose for a Fat Goose, or gander as it were.
