Review The Meat & Wine Co Hawthorn East - Hawthorn

Ty Humbles
Started with the Tartare which is one of the best I have eaten!! Amazing! Followed up with 815gms of mouth watering Dry aged Rib Eye and was not disappointed! Paired with the Two Hands Shiraz I could not fault it. Pork ribs were also spectacular and a huge serving! Super friendly staff, nice quiet (and toasty warm) atmosphere out on the deck. Will be a regular from now on!

Had been craving steak for a while. Visited this place with my partner and wow! The steak is amazing! We both ordered medium rare. So so juicy and completely satisfied my cravings. Chips were absolutely delicious and the mash was flavoured perfectly. Staff and waiters were extremely respectful and kind and made sure we were served on time and taken care of throughout the whole night. Thank you for making our time here a wonderful experience. Food was mouth watering. Craving it again while I write this review. We will definitely be back very soon!

Fantastic starters, mains and drinks. Lovely steak cooked medium rare to perfection. The chefs even prepared the bruschetta starter without any onion for me. Highly recommended and will definitely be back

Food:beautiful steak The meat is tender and well balanced and pork belly entree is good too (but the lamb skewer meat is too dry and i’m order medium rare he give me median well ) Wine:good (but The staff did not know how to introduce wine to the guests. I ordered two glasses of wine, but we finished the appetizer and the wine did not come.) Service: Good attitude and smiling (The waiting time is too long, and the guests are often ignored. Employees lack communication with each other!) Clean:Good Tidy:Good Price:Expensive Interior:Good

Amazing food, was extremely full after this feed. Absolutely adored everything on the starter tasting plate, would highly recommend for a group of 4. The wagyu steak was cooked to perfection, super juicy and tender. Can't wait to come back and eat here again!

Great food. Excellent steak. The only let down for me was the wine. For $22 a glass it tasted like the wine was weeks old.

A return to @themeatandwineco Camberwell Junction. This time seated upstairs, ambient lighting but with spotlights for the food, a huge mirror makes the room appear larger while bundles of string run along a wall adding texture and contrasting with the wooden blinds shielding us from lit up billboards. . 🥩We had the 200g fillet ($39) braised in a bbq sauce unexpectedly, it was delicious, and really didn't need the garlic sauce we added. Perfect with the salad it comes with, fully dressed unlike most, creamy tanginess complemented it well. 🧄🍞Entree was garlic bread - How is fresh/warm bread so beautiful? Soft light pillows of garlic bread with garlic chips and cheese. This garlic bread I'd so amazing I've never tried any other entrees at @themeatandwineco. . 🎶 Questionable choice of pop music including shut up and put a ring on it, I'd go for something that's closer to the price point of the dishes. - But they did play a song from an (allegedly trashy) movie I love. 🤣 . Always a great dinner, very datesworthy and friendly. . 🥩 @themeatandwineco 📍Camberwell 💵 Damage $53 (no drinks/desserts as we were off to the bar next) paid $3 after using our @theforkau points! 😋

I have been coming to this restaurant since it opened and have always thoroughly enjoyed the food, wine and service. I came with a friend 2 days ago and everything was perfect except our waitress Susie. She recommended the lamb tomahawk and when we didn’t choose it she said ‘why not’ then must have got her feathers ruffled. because after that we found her unaccommodating and abrupt. She didn’t even clear the table but was happy to just drop the bill plate and leave without saying anything! That’s rude. A fine-dining restaurant needs to employ staff with politeness and good manners. Everything else however was delicious and we will definitely return!

Went here tonight with my wife and friends, we had a magnificent meal, fantastic service, will definitely come back again and can thoroughly recommend the Restaurant

Perfectly cooked steak, great service, friendly helpful staff and great atmosphere. The tasting plate was delicious, and the steak/ribs combo was excellent.

Good stuff. Friendly staff and food was great. Had an issue with the dessert ticket not going through but solved with great customer service in this moment of truth. Thanks heaps for a great night

I organised a surprise dinner for my husband's 30th at Meat & Wine Co in Camberwell. The staff on the night were so helpful and accommodating of our big group. Great service!

Love this place - have dined here numerous times and have always enjoyed the great service, ambiance and food. Personal favourite is the Portuguese chicken skewer, so juicy and flavoursome. Would definitely recommend it!

Very good, consistent and reliable steakhouse.

Meat cooked inconsistently. Ordered steaks for the table, all medium rare. They were all cooked completely differently with one being very well cooked. One of the plates was served in a searing hot plate and the others cold which may explain it. Disappointing experience.

Service was impeccable and entrees were enjoyable too. Shame that despite being a restaurant specialising in meat, the taste and quality of their mains were really subpar. The wagyu ribeye which although was perfectly cooked medium rare as we requested lacked quality and did not taste like real wagyu with a supposed grade 6 marble. Furthermore, the pork ribs lacked favour and was more rib than meat - in fact the waiter cleared our serving board away before we had even finished with them because the restaurant was dark and the meatless ribs essentially looked like they had already been eaten... frankly I’m really glad we only tried this place with the 50% off Fork discount, because I would have been salty as hell if I paid full price for such disappointing mains...

Had dinner here on Friday night. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by a staff member who treated us like special customers and this service continued throughout the night.<br/>The ambience was beautiful, perfect for a special occasion. The area was dimly lit, and cosy with an intimate feel.<br/>We ordered the chicken skewers and the steak.<br/>The chicken skewers had a smoky flavour, were juicy inside and were so tasty.<br/>The steak was cooked perfectly and was of a high quality.<br/>If I had a special occasion I would come back however I wouldn't eat here on a regular basis because of the price. But I had a really great experience.

Wrong meal brought to me twice, way over cooked steak, unprofessional service staff. Second shot ive given them this year. Won’t be another

Nice visit to The Meat & Wine Co for dinner<br/><br/>The interior is quite moody and intimate, with low lighting. The lovely displays of wine etc. around the restaurant gives the interior more of a luxurious feel.<br/><br/>DRINKS<br/>I had a rose & wine with the group I was dining with. Both drinks had lovely flavour and no bitter after taste<br/><br/>FOOD<br/>Bruschetta: A bit of a different dish to what I'm used to as it had grated parmesan and avocado included. It was a nice portion to start<br/>300g Rib Eye with Peppercorn Sauce & Salad: The rib eye was unfortunately overcooked, as I wanted it medium rare & it was more on the medium side. The peppercorn sauce was creamy with a nice pepper flavour through. The side salad was very basic<br/><br/>The service was friendly, but also a little bit confused & very, very slow. Some dishes/drinks weren't served to the right people (or at all) and our drinks took a very long time to come out between courses. The entire dinner took over 3 hours, and I understand we were a bigger group but I don't believe that this is the norm.

I ordered takeaway, a caesar salad and boerewors. This was the description for the salad - <br/>"Cauliflower, baby gem, anchovy, crostini, Parmesan, dressing".<br/> The salad was just lettuce with onion with 4 pieces of cauliflower the size of my thumb nail, and a dressing.  THAT WAS IT...for $13. NO ANCHOVIES, CROSTINI OR PARMESAN. IT WAS DISGUSTING FOR THE PRICE!! NEVER AGAIN. <br/>The boerewors was great however the "pap croquettes" or should I say 1 x pap croquette was very dry. NEVER  AGAIN WILL I ORDER FROM THEM NOR GO THERE. SHAME ON YOU!!
Diner
Occasion - work function<br/>Ambience - private dinning room, comfortable, relaxing, and cosy.<br/>Food - delicious, I ordered a rib eye steak medium rare with onion rings, YUM!!!<br/>Wine - beautiful wine, the company paid, all good!<br/>Service - friendly, courteous and engaging<br/>Price - the place looks up market, but inexpensive, good value for money<br/>Would I come back.....YES!

Beautiful building. We ordered the rib eye steak, calamari as a mains and baked cauliflower cheese. These dishes were executed well. But portions were a little on the light side, left feeling we could eat more! Did not love the desserts. (Had the sample platter in Dec - really wished the desserts were worth ordering!) Service excellent - even on a busy Friday night.

Second time here. Good service, staff are very nice. We ordered kids meal, rib eye, salmon skewer. You'll love this place if you want to have a nice steak.
Cathleen
My second time to be here. Nice steaks, lambs with beautiful fries and desserts. will tell my friends to give it a try for steaks if they wanted to.

We had a family Sunday lunch here recently and it was pretty disappointing. The steaks are indeed very good. However, there are very few options for gluten-intolerant customers. It was especially disappointing that most of the food is made off-site so there is no possibility of adapting even simple dishes like mashed potato to cater for food intolerances. The service was really patchy and we had to keep asking for water; at the same time the waitress had a knack for randomly appearing and interrupting our conversation with needless questions. Not a great experience.
Joshua
Succulent steaks and really delicious chips and onion rings. Service was prompt. Went during lunch time so not overcrowded and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere.
The Brunchabout Diaries
Meat & Wine Co has beautiful meat dishes and a lovely ambience. <br/>For main, I got the slow-cooked shank, creamy mash, roasted carrots with red wine reduction. It was delicious and the meat was so tender. However, I really regret not trying the skewers or ribs because all the chargrilled meat looked amazing. <br/>The creme brûlée for dessert was also really tasty, and the little meringue coffee biscuit on top was a nice addition. <br/>The atmosphere in the restaurant is very warm and comfortable and there is a variety of seating upstairs and downstairs.

Food here is always absolutely devine everytime I dine here. Came in last night for my birthday dinner and I had the calamari, pork belly, pork ribs, lamb shoulder and the grand finale dessert platter. The calamari was coated in a lovely szechuan seasoning and was cooked to perfection. The pork belly had a beautiful glaze and was melt in your mouth. The pork ribs were falling off the bone and had the right amount of sauce. My favourite from the dessert platter was the chocolate and hazelnut fondant, the chocolate just oozed out as soon as we put our spoon in it. It was decadent but the sweetness wasn’t overpowering. Cannot wait to come back again. Just wished that there was an option to have had the table for longer as we would’ve ordered more drinks etc if we could’ve stayed longer.

If you like a steak this is a place to put on your list to visit. I had an eye fillet with salad. Yummy flavours and beautifully cooked. My partner had the slow cooked lamb which he raved about. With a bottle of Pinot noir we were very happy. No room for desert as the chips were too delicious to leave.

We had dinner at this local steak house for my brother’s birthday. I booked through The Fork app, which was a great deal at the time. We had their set menu. First came the lamb croquette. They are tasty and had nice texture, but quite heavy on pepper. Too peppery for my liking. The bruschetta was a great cleanser to the peppery croquette. Then came the main course, the wagyu rump. Cooked medium rare. Pretty decent steak for the package. I can’t remember which sauce I picked, but I preferred the red wine jus that my brother ordered over whatever the butter sauce I had. It came with truffled chips, although I did not see any traces of any truffles shavings on them. The dessert was Strawberry and Cream. It was a nice combination of different textures and flavours. It was a nice ending to the set dining experience.<br/>Staffs were polite and reasonably attentive. Ambiance was reasonably cosy with dimmed lighting. <br/>Will return for future special occasions as they are conveniently located to us.
Foodgalorez
Decent meat for its price. Love the onion rings!! The service was good, staff were attentive. I always get the New Yorker - that’s my favourite. Their creme brûlée is also good!

Came here for my birthday recently and was a little underwhelmed.  The service and venue were fantastic, but the steak whilst flavoursome, was a little overpriced in my opinion.  I paid $59 for my fillet steak asked for it medium and when it arrived it was well done. I wasnt the only one at my table that had the same issue.  I expect that from an average restaurant, but given their business is all about steak, thats a bad sign. The chips tasted like frozen supermarket chips and the mash potato was so processed, it had a strange consistency and did not taste potato like.  The garlic bread was weirdly only toasted on one side and hardly had any garlic on it, however the bruschetta was fantastic.  Its also one of those places you pay through the nose for a thimble of wine, but know that going in.  There are better steak restaurants in Melbourne.  Id go back, but probably not opt for the steaks at the higher end of the scale, they just didnt seem to live up to their price range.

Went to Hawthorn branch with family and my little baby last week. Horrible reception by the lady at desk who seems at lost with our large 7 parties. She doesn’t even know the large outdoor table is available until pointed out by a kind Indian waiter who happened to pass by. He was quick to set up the table for us and well done for remembering to return to take our order soon after. Full points to him. The all fresco dining was great with good weather in that evening. Food is ok by standard except more charred of the meats on the day. Sorry, the high expectation was marred by the unusual poor reception to start with!

Great for special occassions. Unfortunately, we haven't managed a visit where both food and service has been excellent.<br/><br/>Most recently we visited on a Sunday for lunch. All the food was fantastic and the best we have had at Meat and Wine so far. The Szechuan Calamari is to die for and hopefully will stay on the menu forever.<br/>Midway through lunch service, our waiter disappeared and we were left with our empty plates for 30 minutes. Shame for the restaurant as we would have ordered more drinks and dessert, if given the chance. In the end, we just went inside to get our own bill so we could leave. We understand that things came up requiring the waiter's attention but it would've been nice to know before he left or even an apology once he came back. Instead we were left with a sour end to a special occassion lunch.

This place is upmarket, with a price tag to match. The food is delicious, but not necessarily good value. Highly recommend the Portuguese chicken skewers, which were amazing. We tried the mac and cheese (based on a recommendation I read here), but it was quite rich with not a lot of flavour, so I would avoid next time. <br/>Also beware there is a surcharge of $5 per person on a Sunday. This place is definitely worth a try, perhaps mainly for special occasions?
Foodbaby
Top class service. Food was also delicious and cooked to perfection. We had the 3 course degustation... loooved the dessert! I also was impressed by the large selection of sauces! Nice ambience with beautiful decor. Only negative was that I didn't like the air quality upstairs where we were seated.

Upmarket place in the heart of Camberwell, Meat & Co honors its name by offering pieces of meat cooked to perfection in very classy settings.  <br/><br/>The menu is varied and scalable regarding size of the meat you want, variety of meat, and cooking of the meat.  Their dishes come with salad or fries, and the sauces have to be ordered as a side, as well. <br/><br/>Their selection of wines and drinks is also very good.<br/>My meat was cooked to perfection and it was, in fact, the best thing of my meal. Truly satisfying, juicy and yummy. The fries were totally average and don't make any favor to the meat or the restaurant. The garlic sauce I ordered was very delicate, so in my case the garlic flavor was good but not enough. <br/><br/>I love that they have good meat knives and fabric napkins, something I don't take for granted. <br/><br/>I found the place good-priced for the quality of food and drinks you find. I had the smallest cut of meat and I left fully full and satisfied without being ripped off.<br/><br/>Staff were very professional, courteous and polite, but also a bit uptight and not specially friendly.

Decided to treat ourselves to some delicious food at this famous Melbourne restaurant! It’s a converted church is really stylish. We enjoyed a variety of different dishes, clearly you an see why the photos we love lamb! The Mac and cheese was AMAZING! And of course we needed dessert! Highly recommend visiting this place when you have a chance!

I’m always down for a good piece of steak, and what better place to go than a place that has meat in its name?. The Meat and Wine Co specialises in an assorted array of meat dishes, that combines African and Australian cuisine, a fusion that is not commonly found in Melbourne. The restaurant has several locations in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, and on this occasion, I paid a visit to its Hawthorn East location. The interior was filled with wood and leather, clearly a hub set perfectly for meat lovers.
Sunny Days Melbourne
This place is great for a meat fix! The atmosphere is always warm and relaxed. Kudos to the wait staff who were always eager to help and appeared to have an extensive knowledge of the best wines to pair with your meal. <br/><br/>The large slab of steak was cooked close to perfection. The potato mash was creamy and deeply enjoyable. Those onion rings were made from real onions....no fillers of any sort here. <br/><br/>And the chocolate and hazelnut fondant was the icing on the entire meal. Rich, sweet and texturally exciting - loved that shortbread biscuit!<br/><br/>A really lovely experience. <br/>

Food was great! We all had steak and chips. Steak was juicy and cooked perfectly, the chips was golden and crunchy. Downside was the service, the waitress was not friendly and our desserts got taken away without asking if we were done. We had to ask twice for the bill and yet nobody bothered to serve us as everyone seems busy setting up tables. Certainly will go back for the food just not this branch.
Tilly Gallenti
Everything about this restaurant was fantastic! Great food, drinks and service. We were really pleased with everything! Will definitely be back.

Nice service and gorgeous rib, cooked very well. Neither dry nor greasy, highly recommend. But no beef steak. It is not bad, but too much expensive compared average taste.
Leonidas
Had dinner here on Saturday night and the service was great.  Steaks were cooked to perfection.  The fresh oysters were fabulous but expensive.  Will dine here again.
Foods Of Melbourne
I’d been here once before, and was so excited to return. I shared the best of both plate, a steak and ribs and it was delicious. Cooked to perfect, great flavours and a decent size and impeccable quality. Also had the cream brûlée for dessert and it wad delicious. Definitely keen to try the sides next time!
Wendy
I’ve been here twice and the food was always fantastic, the calamari entree is a must have, the monte rib eye beef with chef recommended medium cook is perfect as well. We tried the grand finale desert, and all my friends are happy with it. <br/><br/>The only thing I’d like to mention is that the waitress is not attentive and always so rushy. Whenever we ask for something, like a new bottle of sparkling water, or a dessert menu, she never stood there listen and always said she will come back which she never did. Instead, it’s another waiter did all her jobs. I’m a bit disappointed with the service as I know you’re busy but that’s your job, if you can’t do it better then find someone who can.
Yuxi Li
Very chill place. Steak is not bad. Sides are also nice. Environment is good. Nice place for friends catching up and family night. Will come again.

Disclaimer: I did not actually dine here. But let me explain why I gave it a 2/5 rating. We are a group of 13, initially 12 and was extremely keen and excited to dine at The Meat & Wine Co for a friends birthday. 2 days before our booking, we had another friend that was keen on joining and we informed TMWC. We were told that, if we wanted to add another person we had to order a set menu which is $70 per person. My friend had tried to convince TMWC to please let us add another person without having to order the set menu of $70 pp, BUT the staff kindly suggested that if we were unhappy with the $70 pp set menu, they had an even better offer for us, to order the set menu for $140 pp.<br/>This was ludicrous, we are a group of 13 people and would have probably spent at least $60 per person including entree , main and drinks. That is at least $780 for the restaurant. To be forced to pay a set menu price is completely unfair and greedy of the restaurant. We never got the chance to dine at TMWC and this is why. <br/><br/>

We had friends over from China. After a few days of tour-arranged Chinese set menu, they long for some local cuisine, Aussie steak. We tried Squires Loft, but unfortunately they couldn’t accommodate our next day dinner booking. Meat&Wine Co was extremely helpful! The restaurant is with warm and cozy deco, comfortable seating arrangements. Waiters are polite and helpful. Most important, the foods are so delicious! The steaks are tender, flavorful and delicately prepared. The pork ribs, I can’t think of any words to describe, “delicious” is not enough, the best ribs I’ve ever had! Cooked just right, juicy and tasty. Over all we’ve had a great experience at M&W Co Camberwell. Our friends were deeply impressed and wholly satisfied with Aussie food and this local restaurant. Thank you for making my friends experience a great memory!
Sylvia Da Silva
Great atmosphere, attentive staffs with great knowledges ,offering exceptional steaks. I have visited this restaurant on a number of occasions and the food is absolutely perfect . Recommended booking cuz they are always busy.
Laura Seymour
This restaurant is beautifully styled, it’s inside an old heritage building and we were seated in a booth in a bay window which we felt made communication between the table easy and fluent. As a large table, we all ordered steaks which everyone enjoyed. The greatest let down for me was the service. My father in law, asked the waitress what beers the restaurant offers and was pointed in the direction of the menu whilst she waited at the table, when my father in law explained he didn’t have his glasses she still didn’t offer any suggestions & instead another member of the table had to read out the menu. This waitress also wouldn’t offer any recommendations on the menu when asked. Taking our orders she was speaking in a real short, sharp and robotic tone. The waitress was clearly frustrated in general as I could see on her face. Her service was rushed and clumsy when retrieving things from the table, there was no friendly banter and we certainly didn’t feel taken care of as you’d expect in this type of restaurant. A staff member in the kitchen was also ringing the bell so loudly, I’m sure thier wait staff could hear alongside every patron in the restaurant. The service definitely let’s this place down.
Patsy
The food was very, very good. Worth going for. Unfortunately the service was not. The staff were lovely but we were sitting in back corner and they kind of forgot about us. Would have had more wine and another course, but the staff forgot to come back and ask us :( It was very busy, so perhaps they were a bit understaffed. <br/>It is worth a visit though as the food really is tasty.
Sophie
A-mazing! There were 9 of us in a private room and we had salmon, ribs, steak, lamb shoulder and sides of mac & cheese, greek salad and onion rings. So delicious and so worth every penny. Staff were friendly too. Not an everyday day restaurant ($$) but definitely one for special occasions.
Bear Noms
Ventured here for Valentine’s a while back. Tried the prawns which were tasty but had a tiny serving. The ribs were good but felt it could be better.
Connie
I really loved the interior of this restaurant ! The service was really nice as well. I would definitely recommend the beef here- it was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth! I didn’t enjoy the kangaroo skewer as much
Antoniette Santoro
Great cosy environment. Good service. Friendly. But these are not $45 steaks. I have had better steaks for $25 in pubs. The blue cheese sauce was very creamy with no blue cheese flavour. Odd. Not enjoyable. Dessert was hazelnut and choc fondant which was very good. Tempranillo wine by the glass option was also good. <br/>Disappointing. <br/><br/>
The King Of The North
The food, service and ambience was excellent. Went with friends and highly recommend the tasting plate/sharing plates for entree and dessert. The steak and ribs for main were delicious, try the African chilli sauce, great accompaniment for the steak and chips/onion rings. Was full on a Sat night but that didn’t affect the service, which we faultless. Will definitely come again.

This place doesn't have Massive portions and is on the expensive side But, the food and dessert is fantastic. Can't go wrong with the juicy beef burger cooked to perfection or a medium rib eye steak and chips. Bonus points for ambiance and great service!
Yuiisama
Second time this round :) really enjoy this place, its ambiance and service. They do pretty authentic borewors and pap (minus it being fried - but declious nonetheless). <br/>Always had the steak - didn't go astray this time either. It was tender and juicy, perfectly cooked. I had the blue cheese sauce which to my surprise was a lot less blue cheese and more... Cream? <br/>Nothing wrong with this place but your choices are a bit limited. Definitely will be back!
Manishka’s Foodie Diary
Would give it a 3.5* if possible!! We tried the Pork Belly and Calamari for entrees and the calamari was a standout! The calamari was cooked to perfection and the namjim sauce was the perfect accompaniment for it. The pork belly was cooked well but lacked a little bit of flavour. <br/>For mains I had the Lamb shoulder, and I was slightly disappointed as I wasn’t cooked for long enough so the fatty bits were unpleasant to eat. <br/>We also had the Wagyy Ribeye Steak ( marble 6+) and it was cooked to perfection and just melt in tb mouth. The mushroom sauce was also a good match. <br/>Dessert we couldn’t go pst the chocolate fondant.. it had just the right amount of cake to sauce! YUM! <br/>Great ambiance, you can take kids, staff is a little slow on service but friendly!
Angelique Markos
So amazing, best steak in the Eastern Suburbs.. great service, ambiance is spot on! Really good local to go and enjoy with family and friends

We were celebrating our 31st Wedding Anniversary and we want to thank our fantastic hostess Cass whose service was exemplary. She was engaging, friendly and made us feel special. Complementary champagne was a nice surprise and then the beef ribs, steak, burger and dessert was just spot on. Thank you Meat & Wine Co !

Have been to a few Meat & Wine Co, including Camberwell but realized I’ve never written a review!. First of I have to say the service here was… snobbish?? We had a booking for 7pm but hubby finished early so decided to swing by for an early dinner at 6pm instead. 3 people at the front desk and no one attempted to make convo with us beside saying “ok let us see what table we have” – even though it was 6pm and more then half the joint was empty. Our table service was excellent though. She was friendly and attentive even though you can see she was extremely busy serving all the back side area. And again when we went to pay at the front desk, no genuine smile or no one even asked us how our meal went? you would think the first and last impression they would make more of an effort to please their customers.<br/> <br/><br/>I ordered 2 entrees as main as I felt like the Pork belly and the Croquette. The Pork Belly was tinnnyy. Tiny slice that was unfortunately mostly fat =( I loved the chilli lime glazed with the ponzu dressing. Was deliciously sweet and sour! Puff crackling was crunchy and salty, could have done with at least 1 more piece though as I didn't even have enough to share with my hubby. Side salad was small, bit too much onions for my liking.<br/><br/>The Croquette was a good size. It was nicely fried so that the skin was crunchy and the cheese was nicely oozing inside. The jalapeno aioli was good but I would have liked a bit more of a kick to it...
Chai
Had great dinner at "the meat & wine co" with my friend. We had Calamari for entree and Wagyu and Beef Ribs for main.<br/>Calamari was soft and delicious, and served quickly. Wagyu was perfectly cooked, but Beef Ribs were tough.<br/>Staff were knowledgeable and attentive. I love their refined interior. I'll definitely come back here for special occation.
C
We regularly go here for work lunches. Service is always lovely and accomodating to our need for quick service. My go to dishes are the Szechuan calarmari and the chicken breast main. Highly recommend.
Curlsaugogo
I have been here a couple of times, and service has been efficient and warm. I Iike the feel of the place too, classy but cosy. there is absolutely nothing wrong with the (very meaty, of couse) food offerings, but neither is it quite as special as it could be. I'm a fussy bugger though with food...
Renae Harrison
My partner and I booked here for Valentine's Day and were keen to try their steaks in particular. We didn't realise there would be a set menu for the night which was disappointing but steaks were still available so that was good. We both had the sticky pork belly for entree which was delicious. I chose the eye fillet and he chose the scotch fillet and both were delicious. We both had the creme brûlée for desert and we both enjoyed it. I much would have preferred to pick my own meal and I wouldn't have ordered so much food otherwise. The complimentary glass of champagne wasn't really appreciated by us either but the meals were were good and I would go back to choose meals that's I would like.
Melbourne Epicure
It's OK I guess. I don't mind paying a lot for superb food but it doesn't play a role in my rating when I go to a place that's beautifully decked out, has the price to match it, but the food doesn't fully deliver. Good meat but the service hasn't been great yet. Steaks have been good though. Sides are OK too. Recommended if in the area and craving a good steak.
Larry Ma
Average food as this price require a finer touch of the food. Very lousy service and not enjoyed one bit... Premium steak at a premium price however the service let it down. Seriously no special skills to make a good steak good however to kill one just require one thing "lack of concentration at work"<br/><br/>Most meals are too salty for me, please go light on the salt as you can't take out if customer dont like it.
Nay Nay
So glad I found this place. Great ambience and mood! Beautiful setting with equally lovely staff. Steak cooked to perfection and served with flavoursome sauce. The dessert was the perfect way to end the meal

Great food and service. I had the middle cost New Yorker it was great, i tried the Kangaroo skewers they were really good. Servers were knowledgeable and when they did not know something they grabbed someone who did. Whisky tasting was great. I have gone back a few times, be weary if you sit outside you will receive slower and less attentive service, but this is nice when you are after it.

Have been to this restaurant a lot over past 4 years. However, it seems to be going down hill and tonight was incredibly disappointing. Menu has changed over time and options are narrower, steak, whilst tender, had no flavour. Mushroom sauce was all cream and it was a fun game to find an actual mushroom. Vegetarian option was fine, but just lacking in the quality and quantity I've experienced before. The front desk staff were rude on the phone and instead of putting me on hold, hung up. When I called back, there was no apology just a 'l thought I put 'YOU' on hold. Air coolers on terrace area are archaic, unless you'd like a blow wave with your steak. Sad to say, a disappointing experience.
Shizuko
Slow cook full rack pork rib is excellent! Onion rings, calamari and lamb shoulder also good. But dessert- cream brûlée just so so, I don’t like the smell of cheese.
Andrew Cornista
Food was excellent and cooked just as well<br/><br/>As for the seating, there was a slight draft however after a quick chat with the manager he was more than happy to fix the problem<br/><br/>Service was looking a bit grim since our food took the best part of 45 minutes to arrive however this was redeemed by the complimentary dessert offered by the management<br/><br/>An overall pleasant experience, would very much recommend

Meat & Wine Co has always been pretty dependable regarding the standard of food you order, which is why my colleagues and I decided to come here for our team Xmas dinner. As per my photos, my steak and our subsequent dessert sharing plate were delicious (bar the gel that came with the apple pie, we're not sure what that was?), but the sides we ordered to share were pretty miserable. We ordered the house salad (which unfortunately was minuscule, and we could only have 2-3 lettuce leaves each!) and the mac and cheese was more like a penne pasta with gloopy dried cheese rather than a traditional mac and cheese should be. <br/><br/>Would have loved if the wait staff were a bit more attentive, we had to flag them down every time we wanted a drink, to order dessert, to get the bill and would've been great if they were more suggestive when we asked if the sides we'd order was enough for 5. Suitable for a quick bite, lunch meeting or casual catch up, it's pretty noisy with an open kitchen so I wouldn't recommend for an intimate date night.

Great meal, reasonable service, couple of server gaffes.<br/><br/>We booked at 24 hours for Sunday evening mid Dec, so was expecting issues. Requested ground floor table for six people, away from the water station.<br/><br/>Sure enough, only booking times were early or late. I took 5:15 and saw they wanted the table back at 7:15... grumble but it is the “season”.<br/><br/>Arrived at 5:20 and seated immediately. Front dining room nice location.<br/><br/>Service was prompt with menus and drink orders. Mix of cocktails and wine. Nice selection of wine by the glass. Nice espresso martini.<br/><br/>Ordered some garlic bread and bruschetta... to nibble while we surfed the menu. The GB serving was two modest pieces covered in Parmesan cheese. Perfectly toasted. Parmesan covering on the bruschetta too, but only 1 piece, which was a bit stingy/disappointing. Ordered a second and it came quickly. Fantastic flavour, gone in a twinkling.<br/><br/>Ordered mains, the meat dishes were all excellent, without exception: full rack of ribs, kangaroo skewer and 350g end rump mb+2 (marbling grade 2) medium. All came w choice of salad or chips. Being blokes, it’s was chips all round. The ladies had the Chicken (also w chips) and the Croquettes. No sauces needed. No salt. Dijon mustard with the rump was sublime. <br/><br/>We ordered a Wedge salad to share. It too was v good though présentation a bit average.<br/><br/>First service issue: second round of drinks arrived separately in random order, while a beer took over 15 mins. The place was starting to pump, so guess a mid-communication.<br/><br/>Qty of food was perfect, all plates cleaned. Chips were thick cut but Crunchy just like the menu description. The salad was great as a finish.<br/><br/>Service issue #2: As we chatted, after the mains, we were interrupted at 6:45 by a waiter who, from a distance of ~2m, spoke over the room chatter and music to ask if we were aware of the timeframe on the table. Gave me the pip! I answered yes I was and asked if he was? Turns out he wasn’t. I motioned him over and told him, then suggested he find a more discrete tactic next time and assured him there would be no issue if he’d bring the dessert menu quick smart. He did.<br/><br/>Still room for desserts. We ordered the Grand finale and the Semifreddo for sharing. Great selection, good value for sharing.<br/><br/>Of course by now it was 7:15, but no wait service to clear or ask re coffees for another 15 mins. No parties waiting at the bar and other tables were open so we relaxed. <br/><br/>Eventually we flagged a waiter for the check. Out the door by 7:40. No coffees wanted.<br/><br/>In short, food delivered on quality 100%. Service overall wasn’t bad, but was patchy as 3 different servers with differing skills tag-teamed.<br/><br/>Will definitely return. Better not get the same indiscrète time question next time or its off to flame the maître d’ and roast in the next review.<br/>

Juicy. Very juicy. Had the hamburger, which was cooked to perfection. Oh yes, if you want a delicious beef burger, get there immediately. Chips were gloriously battered and cooked to their crispy glory. Glory

I’ve been here several times and it seems to get progressively worse. Called ahead to make a booking and was told “we have several tables available that we don’t reserve, it’s just company policy”. Ok, so I arrived in 10 minutes to a near empty restaurant, maybe two or three small groups and at least ten empty tables. <br/><br/>No greeting by the three people behind the counter, who instead of greeting us, just chose to stare us down, while struggling to look busy. A server told us that because we had no booking we had to “sit there and wait”. <br/><br/>20 minutes later after no explanation or offer of a drink menu or acknowledgement that we had been sitting there quietly waiting we decided to leave and go to another restaurant and then miraculously as we were almost out the door, were seated. <br/><br/>Ordered steak and ribs to share and a couple of entrees. Water was not served, glasses smelled rather peculiar so went to grab another clean glass myself. <br/><br/>Steak and ribs both extremely average, much akin to something you would receive at a local cafe. <br/>Small portions for both entrees. Sauce was extremely watered down, did not even bother with that. <br/><br/>This was the last time I will probably ever eat there, as the first 30 minutes of my visit I was extremely disappointed and the quality of the food was not worth $286 for two people; I feel like this was close to something I would get at any local pub and would not return any time soon.

These guys are extremely arrogant and rude. They wouldn't take my water out to me for 30 minutes. They made me go up to collect my own cutlery and charged me for things I didn't order. The manager isn't even up to McDonalds standards.

I had a craving for a good steak with mash and red wine jus, and I got exactly what I wanted. Staff were very invested in conversation and service from the moment we walked in and were seated, but left a little to be desired as the night went on. We waited a long time to actually order, and had to ask somebody who wiped a nearby table. Time to wait for food was standard, and the actual meal was great. Upon paying the girl handed the eftpos machine to the male I was with, when corrected that it was my card, she turned to him and asked "why are you making her pay". Very awkward end to the night.

While there was nothing wrong with the meal exactly, I just found it to be a little boring, stock standard really. Seasoning was lacking on the steak but the sauces and sides were fine. For the price I think it should be a bit better.

Being the raging carnivore that I am, this place really hit the spot.<br/>Started off with the Boerewors (South African sausage) and followed with a nice juicy steak. Both hit my pleasure receptors.<br/>Prices aren't the cheapest but you get what you pay for.<br/>Vegans need not apply

Service was excellent - friendly and attentive, but without going overboard. I loved the layout of the restaurant, with a tonne of small areas broken off from the main dining/bar area by hallways and walls. It allowed for a semi-private dining experience. <br/><br/>Great selection of drinks and the food menu also catered for a lot of different tastes and preferences. <br/><br/>The steaks were good, albeit a little chewy - my partner and I both ordered the New Yorker but I wish I went for the rump instead.

Had a lovely evening at the Camberwell outlet. Food and ambience was pleasant, the service was impeccable. However... the staff should learn to pronounce the dishes correctly. I ordered the Beef Tartare (pronounced tatar as it derived from French), I was politely corrected by the staff member who pronounced it as tartair like the sauce. I didn’t want to stir the boat so I didn’t correct him, but it definitely affected what would’ve been a 5 star visit.

I enjoyed meat and meat, with a side of meat. Also some wine.<br/>For a romantic encounter with the steak of your dreams this is the place you want. <br/>Good for intimate dates or a Ron Swansonesque meat tornado, you will find everything you need here.

Service was fantastic but unfortunately the pork ribs I ordered were cold. They tasted good but you just can't enjoy cold ribs :( the rest of the entrees were excellent though. I'll be back to give the ribs another try.

Haven't been here for a couple of years.  Used to prefer this one to the Southbank restaurant, which is very noisy.  We usually get seated upstairs in the Camberwell restaurant, but not this time.  We were seated right next to the kitchen, with the bar behind us.  We couldn't hear ourselves think with the kitchen staff yelling instructions to one another & the crashing of empties from the bar.  The meal was very disappointing - the entrees of pork belly & garlic bread were good, but the steaks, while correctly cooked (medium & medium rare) were completely lacking in flavour.  The creamy garlic sauce was watery & thin with very little garlic.  The entire meal needed salt badly.  We won't be back - for a better South Africa steak house - The City Grill Room.

Steak is very inconsistent. Ordered two serves of the same steak (200g fillet) both cooked the same way (medium rare) and they differed in size, quality of steak and temperature. One was visibly much smaller and just tasted like it was something they took out of the freezer rather than a fresh cut. Sent it back and they made a poor excuse about the grill being warmer in some areas than others. Advice: Maybe don't cook meals over the areas where it isn't working properly or isn't hot enough? <br/><br/>Service is very bad. The waitress asked me to help put a plate down on the table (isn't that their job?? If i wanted to put my own plate down, I'd just eat at home) and she fingered my mash with a napkin when placing my plate down on the table (kind of gross but at least her finger didn't touch it and the napkin acted as a barrier - nonetheless pretty unprofessional). Southbank and South Yarra M&Wine Co much better service. The whole experience was just uncomfortable. <br/><br/>Avoid if there is an alternative restaurant available. This is a "casual dining" quality restaurant at non-casual dining price.

The food and customer service was outstanding. Couldn't resist the Rib Eye which was between medium rare and medium and it was perfect. The mushroom sauce was creamy and delicious. Definitely worth a visit.

@ The meat an wine co ... Really know how to serve up, some of the best meals I have ever had 😊<br/><br/>Great atmosphere, service is wonderful and The meat is cooked to perfection 😍

Good service and relaxing atmosphere for weekend dinner. We certainly enjoyed the food (half rack ribs and lamb shoulder) there but we were more impressed with the extensive drink menu. We had few different glasses of red wine by different regions. The price was reasonable too.

Each time we come here for dinner the food is great and the service is always of a high standard. The menu is well thought out and the drinks list provides something for everyone. This place is certainly worth a visit, just make sure you book first

Food here was quite nice,I had the ribs and the gf had a steak. The sides were nice but small, would have liked a bit more given what we paid, but overall still recommended (service very good).

Over priced for average quality food and service. Table wasn't ready at time of booking and the two ladies at front desk looked like they hated their job and would've rather been somewhere else. The wait staff were friendly, however and food came promptly but ribs were dry and we ordered a rare streak that was more on the medium side. Pork belly entree and skewers were very nicely cooked, but have definitely paid less for better elsewhere.

When it comes to steak, burgers and the like I am quite critical when it isn't done right. <br/><br/>I have been to the Meat and Wine Co in Camberwell twice and have had a steak and burger respectively.<br/><br/>The steak I had was quite good, with it being cooked medium rare and produced a lovely texture. The pricing was a tad on the high side but can deal with that.<br/><br/>The burger however- this was plain, unfilling and lacked any imagination. For the price I'm expecting something with depth and lovely sauces to match- yet was met with an overcooked burger and disappointment <br/><br/>All in all I'm split on the meat and wine co- I won't rush back yet would be happy to dine with them again

Overall- brilliant food but the service left much to be desired.<br/><br/>Visited M&W Co last night with my family. We booked a table for 6 and were lucky enough to be given our own private room, which impressed us very much! The quality of the food was top notch- we thoroughly enjoyed the entre tasting plate, all of our mains (which consisted of various cuts of steak and one serve of ribs) and loved the hazelnut fondant that we all ordered for dessert. A ++ for the food (and the wine)!<br/><br/>However the service that we received did not correspond with the calibre of restaurant that M&W Co holds itself out to be. Our waitress for the night was too casual and after explaining the special for the evening said 'yeah a lady ordered it last week and liked it so yeah it's up to you guys if you want to order it'. Okay? Then our drink order was completely muddled up. It turned out that they didn't have one of the beers that we ordered and then the wrong replacement was brought to the table and the waitress did not seem very happy about having to fix this up. We ordered a bottle of wine but only a glass was brought out. All of this wasn't really a big deal - but then we heard our waitress (who was just outside our room at the time) yell at the top of her voice to the other wait staff 'what the f***, the cupboard is leaking'... <br/><br/>When we went downstairs to fix up the bill, a lot of the staff were eating their dinner and enjoying some drinks right next to the counter. It just wasn't a good look.<br/><br/>Will try the South Yarra M&W Co next time, because we loved the food but would not choose to return to Camberwell to celebrate a special occasion.

Average at best. Happened to visit on the night before a menu change, so lots of menu items were not available. Even with a booking, waited 20 minutes to be seated. Table service incredibly slow. Food was ok - just. <br/><br/>Not sure I'd be willing to try it again.

My favourite place to eat in Camberwell. Definitely go there, especially for the Calamari. Chips are amazing. Only reservation is that the meat is sometimes not cooked the way I have asked (mostly overcooked). But those experiences are quite minor. Always my first to go place in Camberwell whenever I'm around, and very convenient being close to Rivoli.
Pinch Of Bacon
While the ribs are okay they aren't fall off the bone tender. We make a really good rack of smoked ribs at home that is far better than theirs so we don't need to make a return visit there.

I have been multiple times. It's always consistent. They have a great menu with lots to choice from. The staff are friendly and warm. In my personal opinion it's better than the city location. Because it's more intimate. Can't wait to go back.

For a place that should be good for their meat and wine they are only 50% there.... the meat was 100% the staffs knowledge of the wine- not so good.... next time I will pay less and go to squires loft for a cheap and cheerful steak and I won't expect the staff to know anything about the wine

Great food fast service<br/>Enjoyed calamari for entree and followed by a juicy rib eye served with an wedge salad<br/>Happy hour served coronas as a house beer

The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing. The bar area and lobby were nice and open, good place to relax and meet friends.
@twogoodtoresist
Such a beautiful environment and the food is always delicious! Such high quality and juice meats. The desserts are 100% a standout! The testing plate of all the desserts does was loved and demolished by everyone at the table. The hazelnut and chocolate fondant that oozes out like a delicious dream must be consumed by everyone that visits!

First time going here was on a weeknight and it was nice and quiet and the food came out very quickly the staff were attentive and the food was delicious. However we experienced what seemed to be a completely different restaurant. The food quality was not exactly the same, the steak was cold and the $4 blue cheese sauce was heavily watered down. The staff being busy were slow seeing to us we had to keep waving them down. Overall recommend going on a weeknight for a nice evning out.

Went yesterday for lunch with a friend. Online booking process simple with a confirmation text in the morning. <br/><br/>Place oozes class on the outside, and backs it up within, although seating in the front area is TIGHT.<br/><br/>Not wanting to fill up before the mains, we skipped the entrees, although the Szechuan calamari and the Buffalo Halloumi looked very very tempting indeed. Very tempting....<br/><br/>Alas, I ordered the 350g Rib Eye with chips and mushroom sauce, and my friend the 200g Fillet with chips and Peppercorn sauce.<br/><br/>Steaks were good, with a nice char and cooked as ordered (medium) although I was hoping for something slightly smaller and thicker perhaps. Chips were as you would expect from a fine establishment but there was no OMG. Mushroom sauce was not what I was expecting at all. Presumed it would have plentiful mushroom, and be a rich flavour, but it was a very 'light' sauce. It complemented the meal nicely, but disconcertingly looked almost identical to the Peppercorn sauce.<br/><br/>Service was impeccable, super quick, efficient and confidently professional.<br/><br/>A couple of non-foodie points. Being in the middle of Camberwell junction at lunchtime on a weekday, parking is effectively non existent, and when you find one it will be for an hour which is not really conducive to a leisurely lunch. Just a warning. <br/><br/>And the decor inside is dark, so on a sunny day the glare facing the windows is full on.<br/><br/>Overall, not the best steakhouse in Melbourne, but neither do they claim to be. A classy establishment however for a good meal, and a menu that I will be back to pursue further

I was more inclined to go for the magnificent dangling skewers. As roo meat has always proven difficult for me to cook (I tend to overcook it), I was interested to see whether I would be presented with leathery hide on a metal skewer. But thankfully it wasn't. It was a delicious medium rare and tender. A slightly tangy marinade made with bush herbs was a lovely accompaniment. As was the onion rings and chat potatoes. Yum!

Dined there last night. Received a warm welcome and was seated promptly. To start I had the grilled Haloumi cheese. It was dressed nicely with semi dried tomatoes and rocket but the actual cheese didn't have the oozy melted interior I was hoping for. Was quite firm. <br/><br/>Main was the pasture fed, dry aged Rib eye with a Peppercorn sauce. Tagging along were onion rings and a side salad. The steak was delicous and cooked perfectly to medium. Can't say I was wowed with the dry ageing. Onion rings were a lighter take on what I'm used to. They were small and finely cut with very little batter. With alot of the onion exposed, they browned quite alot, a little too much for my liking. I found them too small and awkward to scoop up on a fork and too fiddely to handle with fingers. Side salad was overly dressed and tasted of store bought French dressing. I actually couldn't finish it.<br/><br/>My wife enjoyed the Chicken breast. The accompanying puree and chimmichuri was a perfect match. The chicken was out of this world tender and full of flavour. I assumed sous vide but the menu did not suggest that. <br/><br/>Finished with the Chocolate Fondant which flooded my plate of chocolatey heaven.<br/><br/>Overall a very nice meal and great service. Will try the Wagyu beef next or stick to the less fancy cuts.

Went there for a group lunch with pre-set Xpress set menu. Even though I felt that choices within those set menu were a bit too limited but what eventually comes out of kitchen is pretty good. <br/><br/>I ordered a 2 course set menu with Entreè & Main. In Entreè, I had calamari fritters and they were probably the most succulent and perfectly cooked I ever had accompanied with a lovely in-house sauce. <br/><br/>In mains I took the 250g Wagyu steak cooked to medium and it was amazing. The cooking was right and most appropriately seasoned & garnished. Very satisfied..!! 👍🏼👍🏼😀😀

Walking in, i was stunned at the beautiful landscape, feeling like I was walking into the world of fine dining, and I wasn't disappointed. Buzzing with a burst of blazing excitement like a exploding meteor, I walked up to the table, accompanied with beautiful and elegant service by the awesome waitress, I felt I was in dream world. Then I looked at the menu and the prices and it was great value for fine dining and menu and heaps of choices like a travel guide on the beauties of fish, meat and chicken. Then I went for it, a mix of prawns and meat cuts on a skewer with mash potato instead of chips. And what came out was impressive in quality and quantity. The meat was beautifully cooked, with a nice light taste of red wine tasting dressing over the meat. The meat was really well cooked, juicy and fantastical with a beautiful mash potato. The prawns were well cooked but were a bit strong and garlicky. The prawns were however still overall very nice. I tried the other dishes people got on the skewers, the salmon was zingy and well cooked and the chicken was spicy and juicy like Portuguese chicken. Overall great quality fine dining for a great price. My dream world was reality and I was experiencing magical fine dining. Overall although all the skewer dishes was beautiful, I would recommend first the meat and then the salmon, with the chicken and prawns third and fourth choice. The desert was a beautiful deconstructed passion fruit tart, with mascarpone and passion fruit. It was imaginative, tasty and light. I then paid and left with a beautiful feeling of this wonderful world of fine dining. I recommend it for anyone who wants to experience the world of fine dining but also get value for their money. My excitement had been fulfilled.

Amazing place. Visited with family. Food was perfect. People were kind and cheerful. I tried my first kangaroo dish here. And that was amazing experience.
