I don't know why people rave about Pastuso. The chef in Lulo produces excellent food that is way better than Pastuso. I had a very delicious meal here last Thursday evening. The Iron Chicken was very tender and juicy. It was a brilliant idea to serve it with ricotta stuffed baby peppers. The caramel sponge served with thinly sliced white peaches is highly recommended. It was pleasing both in taste and presentation. All the other dishes that we tried were fantastic too. I never knew Lulo existed, but I will be recommending it to my friends from now on. Keep up the very high standards that you have set. I will try to work my way through the menu and try everything!
Fantastic food and cocktails. We had the set menu and there was so much food. The white espresso martini is out of this world. Customer service is also very important to this team and nothing was too much trouble.

Came here again for dinner tonight. It's become a favourite for us, the food is beautifully balanced and presented. The staff are warm, welcoming and unobtrusive. Lulo is a little gem and well worth a visit, or 10. Matthew and the team should be very proud of what they have achieved.

After reading a few recent reviews about the service, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I can say with confidence that the service we experienced was above and beyond! They were incredibly friendly, helpful with menu choices and very attentive. Constant water refills too. All the dishes we chose were lovely as well, with the standouts for me being the beef tataki and the main pork belly dish. I hope they put the kingfish ceviche back on the menu soon!
Went here for date night - definitely my favourite dish...Hiramasa kingfish ceviche & the Cartagena cocktail was beautiful too 🍹 with the exception of the beef tartare (cut too thick for my liking), we enjoyed everything we ate. Service was a quite slow but perhaps they were understaffed when we went.
We had a very good experience there. Friendly staff and good food. We ordered the regional menu and enjoyed every dish. Small serve but very tasty. And their cocktails are very yum! Would come again!

This place was very quiet at 7 considering we couldn’t book the 7 or 7:30 time slot - we booked 6:30pm as the only other time was 8pm. We couldn’t decide, so we asked the staff to bring out their best dishes. WOW! Couldn’t fault any of them. Both Ceviches were amazing! The green tomato salad was a wonderful surprise and the lamb and the octopus dishes were so tender and juicy. Every dish was pleasant to look at too. Even the roast veggies on the side was presented beautifully. I will be back for sure.
Loved it! The food was all delicious. We shared he beef empanadas, plantain croquettes, steak, green tomato salad and cassava chips. The flavours were incredible and we left feeling full but not heavy. Great restaurant for a special dinner, as the atmosphere is also lovely. Will definitely come back to try more things as there are heaps more things I want to try.

I am proud to say that this is where you’ll find me on any random week night indulging in a refreshing cocktail and a beautiful cuisine. Passport not required- take a culinary journey of the Latino American world and taste the music in the flavors.. from playful cocktails & sangria to refreshing mocktails & some elegant wines are merely the magic potions here. The dishes are stunningly colorful, superbly nutritious with highest standards in quality & freshness. Begin your journey from the sea- the freshest oysters as treasures from the deep, snapper ceviche- cured & transparently sliced with pomegranate jewels adding a colorful and tangy contrast. The charred Octopus - my absolute favorite- is served as a salad with greens & fresh pink grape fruit slices- presented as an abstract master piece- the textures & flavors are a fine balance between a subtle contrast. The empanadas and croquettes are dangerously addictive and make the most delicious & comforting entree/snacks. Of course all the salads are dressed to perfection and all dishes have a binding sauce or a dressing which gives them the perfect finish that hits the spot.. A really delicious set menu, and very accommodating of a couple of dietary requirements. The Red Snapper Ceviche was the highlight, but couldn't fault aly of the dishes. Fantastic service, even when our wine of choice ran out they replaced with higher priced bottles for the same price. Really friendly throughout and a great selection of drinks and cocktails. Group of 8 all had a great time, highly recommended.
Lovely ambience, enjoyed the red sangria - traditional but on the sweet side how I like it! Tapas is a great way to try different things, our favourite was the specials board pork and Jamon croquettes. Unfortunately were too full for dessert they sounded great but will return to try!
Such a good feed! Waiters are good and seem to be happy to be doing what they do. Had the potato croquettes, grilled octopus, chorizo and lamb, all were delicious. They're kitchen doesn't close much earlier before they're closing time which we were really happy about. The only thing I could pick at is it is a little wait for the food but it was worth it in the end
Well, simply stoning. It is so gratifying to find a place that are so proud of what they put on the table. Highlight of the night the morcilla. Colombian black pudding, better than in Colombia to be honest. Best Colombian food by far!!!
If you want high quality tapas which is presented beautifully and tastes incredible, Lulo is the place for you! Every dish blew us away in taste, creativity and presentation. The service is fantastic and staff are extremely friendly. Menu caters to all needs and suits a vegetarian diet very nicely. Our top dishes were the tuna ceviche, grilled octopus and the three cheese and potato croquettes. Dessert was delicious too.
Came here after work for a quick feed without previously booking, the waitress organised a table for us quickly. Staff are very friendly, the food was delicious! We can't wait to come back try all the menu
Really enjoyed this restaurant. Had a comfortable and modern atmosphere. Dishes are generally ordered to share. Four dishes per pair was ample. Food was delicious! Modern cuisine, beautifully presented and not too heavy or sickly. Staff were welcoming and efficient. Would recommend!
Lulo is a beautiful restaurant bar which somehow manages to feel both intimate yet spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly although one staff member seemed very new to the job and really struggled with the menu and left without getting someone else to come help us with the ordering. The food was pretty nice on the whole. The plantain croquettas were rather floury, and the grilled chorizo a bit dry and flaky. The grilled octopus and ox tongue were both delicious and highly recommended - the meats were so tender and had a wonderful smokey flavour. We ordered half serves of each of the grill dishes, but the serving size against price was a bit small and the costs of all the dishes really adds up. We still had room for two desserts. The churros were too sweet for my liking, but the flan was lovely. I like Lulo but perhaps at these prices, more dishes need to be a knockout.
It takes a brave venue to welcome a dozen and remain on the ball, and Lulo nailed it. The share plate set menu provided a delicious stream of variety with plenty on offer. The separate drinks tabs were handled with ease. Recommend.
Not bad. Even though it's advertised as a wine bar, if you just go in for a drink, the staff seem almost irked about it.
Pretty expensive for what you get, food wise, but v tasty anyway.
I would recommend other places in the area over this one, but if you're specifically looking for a nice Spanish infusion- they do it well.
Fabulous food and atmosphere. Service was great each time I have been. I don't live close but it is still by far my favourite place to eat.

I like to think I'm a pretty tough critic, and I can honestly give 5 stars and can't wait to return. What a perfect date night venue (but we saw big tables perfect for bigger groups). Food was outstanding, service was incredible, and what a nice change to be able to have a big range of Spanish, Portuguese and Argentinian wine. Great job team. Can't wait to be back.
Nice modern decor with good Spanish music and a friendly atmosphere. Service was helpful and friendly and let us have plenty of time to chat without feeling we were being rushed. Food was excellent, great flavours and well presented. Wine list had a goid range of reasonably priced Aussie, Spanish and South American wines.
Would definitely recommend Lulo!
A great example of getting what you pay for. Been here on a few occasions now. The ambiance is nice and the room quite. Service is good and attentive although I felt pressured to tip. That said it was probably deserved-fantastic food, high quality produce that's cooked well. A great night out all round.
We were so so impressed with lulo - we got the chefs tasting menu which was really well priced and well balanced. We started with oysters, followed by mouth watering ceviche, stunning beef croquettes, pork belly and succulent steak, cassava chips and churros. The staff were so lovely and attentive and the wine was top notch. Will definitely be back :)
Been there few times couple of years back, lovely place with excellent cocktails, food was great and service was good. Writing this review because I am considering to go back there again tonight with family.

Took two friends here as a birthday treat, as well as my boyfriend. We chose this restaurant as the website and and reviews seemed genuinely Latin. When we got there, they seated us right away and overall, the service throughout the night was great. Disappointingly paella was only available on Wednesdays which I thought was odd for Latin restaurant. The red sangria also was not brilliant with a strange acidic after taste. Due to the vast choices on the menu, we decided on the $65 a-head set menu of the chefs selection as we wanted to try a bit of everything. We started off with two oysters each which were beautifully set with lemon and a delicious dressing. Croquettes, a lovely fresh green tomato salad, snapper civiche, casava chips all followed. The desert was churros with dark chocolate sauce. Overall a nice experience. Would have preferred the course to come out quicker. Also, one of the reasons we chose Lulo was because we saw they offered plantains and we were told on the night that they were unavailable that day.
Can't believe I've lived in Hawthorn for 7 years and just went to this little gem. Great food, awesome flavour and perfect presentation!! Friendly service, with authentic Spanish feel. 100% be going back!!! Great work 👍
we order set menu 2…like the oyster and fish that is very fresh and juicy, very busy restaurant. the chips is also very good, and we donnot know name of the vege, maybe is green tomato
Amazing food. The only flaw was probably the overdone jamon croquettes.. Even then, the centre was moist and delicious.
We started off with the red snapper cerviche. They were of good standard. My company thought the fish was a tiny bit fishy, however, I had no problems with it. The pork belly.. that was unbelievable! If you order this, I recommend you combine everything together into 1 bite (pork belly, salsa, sauce) - this equates to a wonderful flavour combination!
The corn was great - sweet, salty, buttery, bite sized. Then came the lamb cutlets - done perfectly, medium rare. Though, I thought the price of the cutlets were a bit steep.
$10 chicken wings were ordered from the specials board - we got 12 winglettes. Had to take this away as we had over ordered! The palm heart side salad was also delicious and presented very well.
All in all, a great experience. The bill came to about $120 with 2 virgin cocktails.
Would definitely return again.
The food here was all round very good, probably a 7-8/10 for everything (except the pork belly, it was just waaaaay to fatty) lamb cutlets were fantastic but when aren't lamb cutlets amazing?!?
Only thing that annoyed us was that it was a Saturday afternoon and we were the only ones in the place and we had 2 ask twice for our drinks as they took so long to come.
Stumbled on this place by accident (parked in front of it) , authentic Spanish tapas wine bar. Good selection of wines as well as Spanish beers. Good range of Tapas to choose from and a great Seafood Paella. Lunch special 5 courses and wine for $30 good value. Recommended.
Great little tapas place on Glenferrie road. I have dined there quite a few times in the last five years.
They have great Spanish wines and the wait staff have good understanding of wine to recommend for your dishes.
Tapas menu is standard and consistent. Specials on the board are worth trying and finally their cheese with PX is hard to resist.
Lulo is a Latin inspired restaurant that does tapas style dishes. The restaurant has a really comfortable feel and provides a nice ambience. There's a little bar area also for a few drinks.
Staff are really nice and always willing to help. Waiting time isn't much of an issue but I highly encourage you to call and book ahead, just in case. They can normally fit you in on the same night depending on the amount of people.
The food is really appetizing with a lot of citrus flavours. I normally go for the set dinner menu, which isn't on the website but you'll see it once you're at Lulo. The Spanish influence really comes through in a lot of the food. Ingredients are fresh and the ceviche is a good example of that. My only little critiscm would be the desserts could be better. I recommend a nice glass of Spanish red to go with the food.
A nice cosy and modern looking space with dishes designed to be shared. Some inserting flavours and combinations paired with traditional dishes. Portions are quite generous but not too much which allows you to try a couple of varieties of dishes if you are with a few people.
Dropped in for late night tapas and was amazed with the pork skin done like prawn crackers. Everything was delicious but they cut up the corn into thin slices and it kind of ruins the pleasure in gnawing at a cob. Would definitely recommend.

Lulo Tapas & Wine Bar Hawthorn is a South American-themed eatery that The City Lane was invited to visit. Inside, the restaurant is clean and minimalist with just a few dressings adorning the walls, but the venue is quick to acknowledge its roots, with a very clear Spanish influence in what is featured.
Really enjoyed the food here. I believe Lulo is reasonably priced for the quality and quantity of food. I'm not a huge fan of the restaurant layout itself though. The front table is caught in a bit of a cross wind. Would go back, but would ask to sit elsewhere.
Lulo describes itself as a Tapas, Cerveceria & Wine Bar with a contemporary twist. This is spot on as the place delivers high end tapas, that differs with more traditional tapas you might have tried in both taste and price. Everything on the menu here is delicious, well thought out, and well delivered but this is definitely reflected on the bill.
Lulo is a fabulous little piece of sunshine in Hawthorn, offering fantastic wines and food with Spanish Flare!
The larger share plates (I proclaim) are the signatures here. I absolutely adored the wagyu and mushrooms dishes, bringing forth a warming bistro dishes with Spanish flavours.
A mid dinner here yesterday was fantastic. Service was excellent, friendly, professional and waiter was very knowledge with wine list and prices. Sharing items (mushroom croquettes, corn on cob, Spanish chorizo and half chicken with parsnip purée) was enough for two people and all presented beautiful. Flavour was amazing. We dined outside but the inside looked warm, inviting with a great romantic ambience-recommend!
Stumbled across this place by chance. What a great little local bar. Atmosphere was relaxed and the staff were really friendly. Went with a friend who's vegan. One of the chefs came out & happily explained what things he could do to accommodate her dietary requirements. This was all on a busy Friday night. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you're wanting to go for a drink & a bite to eat.
Great place to bring friends.. I'm kind of crazy about this place. Not everything on the menu is spectacular, but when it's good, it's REALLY good. Stand-out dishes for me so far are the mushroom croquettes (I don't usually like mushrooms, but these are rich and earthy and so good.) The grilled octopus (warm and smoky and tender.) The snapper ceviche (tangy and fresh.) And the grilled corn (I could eat a bucketful). I think the small share plates are much tastier and more interesting than the mains. Staff are lovely. Can't wait to go back and try some more dishes!

Good food, but small-ish portions and it can get very loud. I've been to Lulo a few times now and my impression is always the same:
1. You don't get a lot of food for your money
2. The food is tasty
3. The place gets very loud when there's a group dining.
4. Service is pretty good
Take the most recent visit's menu.
The Embutidos (cured meat platter) - for $20 you get about a half dozen (almost transparently thin) slices of chorizo and another sausage and 3 slices of serrano ham. They're all tasty, but
The House-made chorizo is arguably better value and quite tasty.
The green leaf salad is a bowl of leaves with a vinegarette - about the simplest possible salad for $7.
Patatas Bravas is a set of six small potatoes with a tomato filling. They were nice, but a little inconsistently cooked.
The Brazilian Picanha is two slabs of rump steak, char-grilled. Again, for $38 with no accompaniment aside from a small bowl of salsa, seems a little on the pricey side.
None of this is to say that I won't be going back, but it's not somewhere that I can justify going back to particularly frequently.
Divine. This place is divine. I think we ordered about 6 dishes and every single one was perfection. We sat at the bar as we didn't book. So glad they could fit us in. 10/10 would go back.

An unexpected gem. We happened upon this place while searching for somewhere to grab dinner on a Monday night. It's fantastic! The staff are very knowledgeable and provided excellent service. We particularly enjoyed the pork belly (it's divine) and the calamari - the presentation and depth of flavour were exceptional. Left a great taste in the mouth. We will definitely be back!
We had a table for 4 on Friday night. We took a punt and ordered the set option 2 feast. $75 per person. Whilst the food was tasty and lovely it was ridiculously over priced for the tiny portions. We were quite angry. It advertised Oysters as a tappas but in actual fact it was 1 oyster. Everything was so tiny. I had to call into. Burger joint on the way home. Staff were great and friendly and it's nicely decorated. But for $75 per person I could have indulged in another meal somewhere else. Cocktails were $17 each too. :(
Is this Glenferrie Road? In Hawthorn?. Friday night dinner at short notice. Lulo was pumping and no surprise as Matt and the team put on a really well integrated modern interpretation of traditional tapas at the top end of Glenferrie Road.
It's all sharing plates and the highlights for us were the lamb cutlets and the blood orange and saffron custard, not to mention the carefully put together Spanish and Latin American wine list, superb cocktails and the spectacular fireball that is the Lulo signature drink: The Spanish Quaalude.
If you thought Hawthorn was full of pensioners and no exciting eating, you were only half right.
Late night treat. A few friends and I went to Lulo after dinner on Friday night for coffee and churros. Everything was fantastic. There are a lot of mixed reviews on here but it was my first time going there and I loved it! The churros were hot, the coffee was good and the service was fantastic.
Delicious !!!. Had a great night at Lulo , staff were fantastic. It was very busy but service was very good. Food was delicious and we loved the beef and the new calamari dish. All the small tapas were delicious especially the anchovies! And the desserts... Favorite was the sangria foam, and it didn't stop us from finishing with some cheese... Great selection.. Loved the monte enbro. Lucky I live close by that I can go back!

Amazing little tapas bar, has a combination of South American dishes and as a Peruvian, I really recommend their ceviche! The food in general was really good and they have a beautiful selection of wines.
Even if they were understaffed, (I'm thinking mostly due to COVID and the sign on the window 'looking for staff') the 2 people working on the floor tonight were very helpful and gave an amazing service. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lived in the area for years and never knew what a Gem Lulo was! Wife and I finally tried Lulo, I made a mental blunder and never submitted my booking. The Owner, Matt and the rest of his staff were incredible, got us seats at the bar and personally gave us an amazing experience! Not only were the cocktails above all expectations, but the food was absolutely on point. We will be frequenting a lot more often after that and highly recommend everyone to give them a shot.
Stumbled across this little gem while visiting Melbourne. Great staff, exceptional food thats very well presented, full of flavour. Great drinks menu with something to suit the most discerning of palates from beer , wine and cocktails. Definitely will go back. Thanks for a great night.
