Review Liar Liar - Hawthorn

Janey Nguyen
Had an amazing brunch here on a Sunday morning! The coffee was so good they also have a wide range of milks available. For food would highly recommend the liar liar hash, there won't be any hashbrowns but they have sautéed potatoes which waa equivalently yummy. If you are up for something spicy I would recommend the pants on fire it's like an egg shashuska but with a kick. Great for some family bonding time!

We had a perfect birthday brunch with friends in Liar Liar, delicious food and staff committed to great service. We will definitely be back soon!

It’s great to visit a place that takes pride in their coffee. Gorgeous coffee art and tasty as well. Service is extremely friendly and warm. Thank you, I love this place

Mmmmmm french toast. Had many a coffee from this joint in the past but snuck in for a quick breakfast for something different. Don't listen to Christopher Antill he was probably licking the windows on the bus before he arrived. 🚌

It's been a year since I've been here and it's still as excellent as ever. The staff are so warm and friendly, the coffee is really good and vibe is relaxed. I always have the poached chicken with pear and walnut because it is DELICIOUS! Go with confidence. A quintessential modern Melbourne café.

Great coffee, lovely friendly staff. It nice to be off the busy Main Street and there are sidewalk tables. They close at 3pm but I make sure I get there and if I’m running a bit late I can phone order and they have it waiting for me.

Revisiting ... Why would you served burnt Bacon? Hammock Benedict $19.50 boring brunch and badly cooked and presented ... Brazil pour over dense but okay ... Matcha latte not so ... What happened to this cool joint?

Very packed in early Sunday morning (9am-ish) yet quality of food (Liar Liar Hash) and coffee were still very good e.g. good management. Would recommend it to anyone. Such nice community atmosphere (mostly regulars from neighbourhood and almost everybody knows everyone). And the best part is there's no weekend surcharge! Quite rare in these Covid days.

Been there couples time and i always get very nice experience. Thats reason why i keep going back to this place even i live in cbd. But i been there last sunday and i promise myself i wont go back there again. Ordered egg benedict with shave ham and asparagus. What i got are dried ham and tired asparagus which look like been cooked for a day! I asked staff and she told me that sometimes it a bad batch....and so what? Poor food quality and staff this time. Very disappointing and never go back again. Probably they might not care if they lost one customer cause this place always busy for some reason.

When I'm in Hawthorn that's the coffee shop to be at. Great coffee awesome food and friendly customer service

Quirky place with interesting breakfast items and nice coffee. Our bread was slightly burnt and would have preferred mugs instead of glass cups for our coffees. However, we loved everything else 👍🏻

I come to visit family and took me for a meal the service is fantastic. Food is yummy .

You know the cafes going to be good when it's named after a Jim Carey classic. Food is world class, coffee was elite, friendly service, exceptional amenities and top notch table size

All the staff at Liar Liar are 100% stellar human beings. Having been going there for 11 years now, I feel there is no way to improve on perfection. The food is always fresh (not to mention - off the hook!) and made in an appropriate amount of time, the coffees and hot drinks are made to the perfect temperature (if you're a coffee snob), and the atmosphere is bustling and busy without it being annoying...it's a great place to be. Even turn around times are quick when the place is full, which is guaranteed to happen on weekends. Liar Liar; da binness!! Johnny

The food was so tasty, and only matched by the awesome service we received. There was 8 of us for a work breakfast, nothing was too much trouble and I cannot wait to visit again! great work team!

The Brunchabout Diaries
A very cute cafe just off Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn. I have tried the Eggs Benedict and Smashed Avocado here. I loved the maple glazed bacon with the Smashed Avo and the Eggs Benedict came with a really delicious onion jam. The meals at Liar Liar are decent sized and the service is really friendly and attentive. My only issue was the sourdough bread was a bit tough and hard to cut. Besides that Liar Liar is definitely a solid local brunch spot.

Highly recommend the big breakfast

I live locally and this is, hands down, one of my favourite cafes on Glenferrie Road. The owner and staff and delightful and the food it outstanding. I tried the Liar Liar Hash on my first visit and promptly took everyone I knew to try it after that. It's so tasty!! Potato instead of bread made it such a hearty meal during winter and the hollandaise was tasty, but not too rich.

The french toast is also delicious - not too packed with toppings and they use a lovely maple syrup and mascarpone. My ideal combo is to order one hash and one french toast to share between two.

My partner just moved in to the apartment building upstairs, so I feel like I am going to be visiting a whole lot more - woohoo!

Only con: parking is very tricky. You'd be best to park near the Woolworths or Kino cinema and walking up.

A wonderful cafe - a must visit if you're in the area!

Went here today with my friend. It’s my first time being here. Thought there may be some vegan options available. Ended up the one and only vegan option is the big veggie breakfast with eggs and mushrooms being swapped by asparagus. Meal was alright. Service was good as they did not charge me extra lol.

Hopefully there will be more vegan options.

A good brunch place, friendly service. However, a bit too crowd, and table bar was too narrow. Easy to find, parking around, and walk there would be easier. The crispy chicken burger was almost great, I don't understand the bunch of sliced carrots inside there, which made the thick chicken breast harder to chew up, and confused me with the "crispy chicken taste", the skin or the carrots?
Tinmans Treats
Excellent local cafe. Truth. You might not see it driving down Glenferrie Road but the most popular cafe in Hawthorn is probably Liar Liar cafe. Maybe true. You won't enjoy Liar Liar. Lies.

It starts off with excellent coffee, followed by excellent brunch options with fun names such as 'Pants on Fire' (baked eggs) and the 'Liar Liar Hash'. The baked eggs was probably my favourite dish - so saucy.

Juices are also good if you don't feel like coffee (i don't know who these people are but apparently they exist) . Excellent vibe inside, friendly staff, quick service - you can see why Liar Liar is so popular. Truth.
Uyen’s Eat And Play Notebook
This is one of the very few brunch spots that I would love to keep visiting and having the same dishes.
• Salmon fillet $22: The salmon is just as delicious as the last time I tried it. I was totally amazed by the harmonious taste of the juicy salmon fillet, salty prosuitto (ham), creamy pumpkin purée, crunchy asparagus and a squeeze of lemon juice. This time, I ordered two Salmon fillets in a row ‘cause I can’t have enough of it.
• Egg Benedict: I especially love the sour chilly onion jam, which is a unique addition to the traditional egg benedict.
• Mörk hot chocolate As the name suggests, the main ingredient is from the sleek and cozy Mörk Chocolate Brew House in North Melbourne. And the taste was absolutely delicious.

Liar Liar is located on Kinkora Road, just off Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn. It’s not a huge cafe but it was jam packed when we visited.

We started with coffees, made with pride & love with beautiful coffee art, sensational coffee.

The menu is impressive & we’ll definitely be going back to try some more dishes.

The Liar Liar Hash - sautéed potatoes w bacon, onion, spinach, poached egg, hollandaise & sourdough toast was an absolute winner! We loved the flavours & the sautéed potatoes, such a well balanced & hearty dish & something I haven’t seen on brunch menus in a long time. It’s safe to say that bowl was clean by the time we’d finished.

The Pants on Fire (I do love a good play on words) was one of the best baked egg dishes I’ve had. A rich tomato sauce filled with spicy chorizo, peppers & perfectly baked eggs served with warm Turkish bread. Full of flavour & delicious & the Turkish bread was perfect for dipping. The servings of both our dishes were generous & we left with warm & very happy bellies.

We also tried the fresh juices, the Hippy Juice - ginger, celery, carrot & orange and the Golden Pash - strawberry, pineapple, apple & orange, both refreshing & loved the flavour combinations.

The service at Liar Liar was fast & friendly, most customers were greeted by name so definitely a popular spot with the locals. We thoroughly enjoyed our brunch & would highly recommend Liar Liar as a fantastic brunch & coffee place. A big thank you to Robin & the team for having us in & look forward to returning again soon.

Lovely staff, good food and good variety.
Happy to come back again and try more from the menu.
Can get busy on the weekends so my tip is to get there early!

Went in for a coffee with a friend, and was served promptly. I had a nice hot mocha which was on point and strong, which definitely helped start the day.
Loved the atmosphere inside the cafe. Would definitely come back for a brunch/lunch.
Sylvia's POV
There's a homely and welcoming feel as soon as you walk in to Liar Liar.
The menu has a great selection of detailed dishes. I settled with a Quinoa potato rosti with smoked salmon and avocado paired with a Matcha latte. The rosti had so much going on and very very generous portions! It was delicious, so many textures and flavours; the potato and quinoa rosti was something I've never had and I can honestly say it won't be my last one!
The Matcha latte was good. The matcha taste was noticeable and the latte art was very cute.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and warm. I'd love to come back.
Melbourne Madness
Really, really great breakfast food all day long!Would highly recommend hitting up Liar Liar in Hawthorn for brunch if you haven't already! The food is really delicious, and some are really pretty too!The staff are really nice here, my only issue is that it's quite small so you can't always find a table. But the coffee is also great, and have never had a bad meal here! :)Great cafe in Hawthorn!
Vicky
Came here for a brekky catch up on a rainy weekday. The cafe is spacious, warm and vibrant. I liked how the mix of window-facing, standard square and larger communal tables invitingly caters for groups of all sizes. The service is quick and friendly. I tried the smashed avocado which came with two perfectly poached eggs, freshly toasted sourdough and deliciously maple-glazed bacon. The menu is full of tempting dishes - can’t wait to come back and try some of the other offerings in the future.

Lovely shop. Friendly staff. The coffee was absolutely delicious!!! Food is average like all the brunch. I work in the neighborhood, so i would recommend my college to go as well.

I love this place! It’s always busy! Great place to have breakfast, brunch or lunch if you are in the area. Portion was generous .. great value of money. Very friendly staffs. Highly recommended

Great food, coffee and friendly team! Definitely loving the wide range of vegetarian and vegan options and so worth the money!! 😁😁
Cant wait to try other dishes!

Nice place with great food for a lazy weekend brunch.. especially love the second dish posted tho I forgot the name....lol but if you crave for sth savoury this is definitely worth trying!
Foodie
This cafe had poor customer service and bad food. We ordered Ricotta Hotcakes and the Pants on Fire. The ricotta hotcakes were overly sweet and had far too much maple syrup. We had two bites of it and left the rest of the meal behind. We asked our waiter whether we could order something else instead and our waiter said no and that they have to charge us for the hotcakes and any other meal on top of that would be an extra cost to us. The Pants on Fire dish which was a napoli, chorizo and egg bake and was also far too oily. This cafe reminded us of a cheap fast food eatery. Go here if you are prepared to eat unauthentic greasy and overly sweet food. This is the first review I have ever written and felt the need to write because never in my life have I had such a bad experience at a cafe. Plenty of good cafes around, no need to go here.

Finally returned to this cafe after a long time! I remember enjoying their matcha latte so I ordered that again and loved it! I also ordered their infamous ricotta pancakes with almond mascarpone, berry could and maple syrup. I definitely want to return to cafe to try the savoury dishes.
Just a note this cafe gets quite packed and noisy at the usual peek times so try to get there early.
Ayakayaka701
It’s not big place but staff welcomed us with my pram and 2mths baby. So thankful.
We knew it’s going to busy on Saturday so we went around 11am and it was almost full and non stop.
However we didn’t feel rush.
Coffee and breakfast were simple and great.
Only criticism is cleanliness. The table was a bit sticky and toilet... you need to go outside and walk driveway and it wasn’t really clean....
Sasha
The food was delicious and beautifully presented! The staff were really friendly. Liar liar, was busy and it took the waitress a while to take our orders. The food was well priced, and the portions were large. They have outdoor seating with sufficient shade covering and are dog friendly. Overall, a good restaurant.

Great little cafe in the heart of cafes of Glenferrie Road. Set just off the main road, it's a light and spacious cafe that has the option of sitting inside or out.

Whether you are here for breakfast, morning tea, lunch or afternoon tea, it's well worth a visit. Great coffee.

Good menu with lots of choices.

Staff are just delightful and very, very helpful

Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Parking is limited one one side and permit on the other.
Bigmelbappetite
To be honest this is one of the best brunch places in Melbourne! Flavours were bang on and everything was plated beautifully. Look how cute the coffee art is?! If I could give a higher rating I would!! 🙌
The Muesli Addict
Small cafe and it is always packed on the weekends. Friendly and quick service. Awesome coffee and food. Love the bircher muesli, liar liar hash and french toast.

Had a dirty chai, it was very nice (and they actually knew what a dirty chai was)
Polite staff and they do table service
Nice cafe
Will go back to try their food
My partners meal chilili scrambled eggs was lovely. My Hippy juice was gorgeous. My smashed avo was absolutely disgusting and needs to be removed from the menu. My whole meal was swimming in maple syrup. I like maple syrup with bacon but avocado and eggs covered in maple syrup was an assult on the taste buds. I'm not sure if this disturbing combination was intentional or the chef was too heavy handed with the bottle of syrup. Either way, it was dissapointing for me. The service was great and I will be coming back, just not ordering that. Yuck!

Revisit ...

Better than what it was before, packed on Sunday ... Could it be the new owner?

San Remo Racer combo with Au79 coffee beans, good change. JT-23/09/2018.

Went to Liar Liar this morning and was not disappointed! I think I’ve found my new local! I had the quinoa and potato rosti with smoked salmon and a poached egg! DELICIOUS! Serves were very generous. My friend had the smashed avo and it was just as good. The coffee is delicious although cups a little small! Needed two! Atmosphere was great and the waitresses were all lovely and so accommodating! The menu is extensive and I’m definitely keen to go back and eat my way through! Everything I saw come out of the kitchen looked divine!

Had a lovely brunch here on a rainy Sunday. Were seated down the back as soon as we arrived. Staff super friendly and attentive. The food was yummy and reasonably priced. Wholeheartedly recommend a visit :)
I can’t fault this place and I am glad I decided to come here. I have been meaning to try it but didn’t get a chance until today. There are tables at the front and inside there is plenty of room. Great looking cafe. The coffee I had was great. My friend had the juice and it was also good. I had the French roast which came with berries and marscapone and it was perfect. Not too sweet and the bread was just melting in your mouth with a bit of crunch. I can’t wait to come back and try something else on the menu. I am glad that I came here and you will be too.

I lived close to This place but never been here, always want to try and only made it today. It is not on Glenferrie Road so easily missed. When I went in there the atmosphere is cozy, staff very friendly. I chose the Pea and mint fritters from special menu. The presentation was amazing. Salad dressing is tasty and not bland at all. Good size of cold smoke salmon. The poached egg is perfect, fritters are generous size. The only thing: the fritters has overpowering dill flavor, not really for me. Everything else is just perfect. I will surely come back.

We had such a beautiful brunch at Liar Liar this morning. I can see why this cafe is a favourite amongst the locals!
The fresh juices are beautiful and so refreshing. I actually ordered the Refresher which was perfect!

The Spanish Omelette was a highlight for me. It came in it’s own little pan and was full of chorizo, goats cheese and cherry tomatoes. The flavour of the goats cheese really lifted this dish. And with crunchy bread it was perfect.

The Baked Eggs had a nice spicy kick but not too much. Really enjoyable and with smoky chorizo as well. Another delish dish!

The Hash was a unique dish. Kind of reminded me of a Patatas Bravas dish. It was sautéed potatoes, onion, bacon and spinach. Topped with a poached egg and Hollandaise sauce. Really yummy.

We then finished off the brunch with the French Toast. It was served with strawberries, berries, maple syrup and a decent dollop of mascarpone. Perfect for all sweet tooths out there!

Thanks so much for having us!
TwoPeas
One of our favourite cafes in Hawthorn. We have been coming here for several years now and food has been consistently good and reasonably priced. Great customer service (there is one lady in particular who is super friendly and attentive!). It ticks all the boxes for us. Hopefully they keep it up!
Lulu T. Legrand
Total disappointment!

Coffee looked pretty but it tasted really funny, as if the milk were a bit off, or the coffee was burnt.

The dish I got, the potato and quinoa rosti with smoked salmon, poached egg and hollandaise sauce was lovely, fresh, nicely presented, perfectly poached egg. I truly enjoyed it, but it is nothing I cannot get elsewhere in Melbourne. I was expecting some sort of creative approach to food to justify the high ratings, but by the end of my visit I thought that this was another case of hype over substance.

The staff were very friendly, but service was rushed and inattentive. The water glass on the table was removed with promise of replacement being on the way, but I left the cafe and it hadn't yet arrived. I was offered a place at the bar, but the sun was just on my eyes, so I requested to be moved to another place; I was promised that as soon as somebody went up, I would be moved, but that never happened. I had asked in advance a corner space on a communal table that was free, and I was said twice no, on the basis of the space being small. Better than having the sun on my eyes for half an hour no?

Not a bad place at all, but nothing remarkable about it, nothing I would be queuing to enter!

Nice restaurant ~fresh food & friendly staff ! It s a bit hard to find the place but definitely worth to try ! ...............................
Fabulous breakfast/brunch with the gorgeous staff at Liar Liar today. Crew all were very helpful, attentive and accommodating for our picky eaters. Delicious kimichi fritters, would highly recommend and will certainly order again. Good atmosphere, service and coffee was 10/10. Top pick in Hawthorn.
Fi O’Brien
Live locally and pop in here often, but have been coming here on and off for over ten years. It’s been here forever, a Hawthorn OG. Staff are always friendly and attentive and the coffee is excellent. I’d say it’s the best coffee on Glenferrie Road. Atmosphere is really welcoming and comfortable. Food is yum, not long ago went on Mother’s Day and had the hot cakes special which was amazing!
Sandra Raphael
Had lunch yesterday. Ordered their famous smashed avocado and the ricotta waffles which were to die for!!! The customer service was excellent... can’t wait to eat there again.
Sol_n_chai
This place was nice. The ambience is okay. The service was good and they made some changes to a dish for my friend, thank you for that. My big veggie brekkie was wonderful. The poached eggs were perfect. The chai....average. Will come back one day to try more menu items.
James
Come here all the day. Consistently exceptionally product. The staff in particular the manager are excellent. Always fantastic and attentive but not over the top. Food favourite has to be the smashed avo the maple bacon is excellent. The coffee is consistently good. The overall experience shows reason why it’s constantly busy
Brunch Queen 👑
A cute brunch spot tucked away was the best place on a rainy morning.

I had the big fat veggie for breakfast, I was impressed by the size of this meal and the generosity of each element of the dish. Eggs were softly poached and the mushrooms perfectly cooked. The waitresses were a bit slow to take orders but the food came within 10mins of ordering.
Chen
Really nice green tea latte! Not that sweet~Love it!!😍food are so delicious! Gonna come back again soon and try other food here and definitely order the green tea latte again!!
Lisa May
Came here for brunch on a Saturday morning, was super busy inside, but was seated quickly.

Ordered: Liar Lair Hash - Was shocked by the serving size, there was no way i could finish it. The elements worked well together to create a delicious dish.

Perfect cafe, will definitely return to try other dishes

Came in for brunch in a raining morning, thought we wouldn’t have to queue. Wrong, queued up for 40’ before we could get a table. The food was good. I ordered pan fried salmon with bacon wrapped asparagus. I liked it. My piece of salmon was cooked nicely with crispy skin. Highlight of the dish for me was the pumpkin and sweet potato purée, nicely binding all together. The price was quite cheap considering the amount of food we got and the location of the place. No wonder it was packed. The rating is 3.5 actually.
Eating Away Melbourne
Liar liar has been around the area for quite a long time, every time when Im around Hawthorn I tend to go visit it again. The service is always prompt and friendly. Their green machine smoothie is the best thing I had in my life so fresh and healthy. Food is classic Melbourne breakfast. Ordered this mushroom dish which was yummy! The only thing was the chorizo was a bit too dry. Also, it can get a bit hot in hot weather but Winter is coming!!
Lisa Gresens
Got a spot outside in the sun straight away. Great and very attentive customer service and the food tastes delicious. Personally, I think there are too many options on the menu - it took me a while to go through them all and make up my mind. However, staff was very helpful with the decision. Even though the food was very good I think it’s slightly overpriced.
Foods Of Melbourne
I ADORED THIS DISH! I have heard good things about this place, and I wanted to try something vegetarian, something I normally wouldn't do (and then, of course, i added pork) but this mushroom dish with polenta was amazing - I would have it everyday! It was creamy and tasty and filling and the pork was cooked to perfection. Staff was great, space was beautiful and the place had a great vibe. GO. HERE. :) OH! And to top it all off - my cold drip was delicious
Bite The Looks By BHA

So far, it was a satisfying brunch! #BHAsFoodDiary

First time trying this restaurant, and the experience was not bad at all!
what caught us the most is the service which is very friendly, attentive, and responsible.
If you have not been to this restaurant, it's a full aussie's brunch without asian influence. authentic!

we started with coffee as usual, coffee was a bit milky but still great :)

for today we ordered: Wild mushrooms benedict, corn fritters, pan seared salmon, and the big fat liar (some kind of big breakfast)

Panda 🐼🐼🐼
overall dining experience was nice and very enjoyable

great and relatively quick service for such crowded restaurant

good coffee although a bit milky

the big fat liar was perfectly and evenly cooked for every component (egg, sausages, bacon, and sourdough) the best!

the corn fritter has a wonderful combination of taste

beautiful plating

Pandon't ❌❌❌
the food was very good, nonetheless it will be better if they monitor some minor things, namely:

excess/ burn dough of the fritters should be trimmed off before serving to customer
fritter is a bit too thick, will be more enjoyable on thinner size
bacon wrapped asparagus (for salmon) is very salty.. might consider not adding salt after its bacon
more neat on cutting tomato/onion (they varies in different sizes)

well still we are not dissapointed and willing to come back soon to see their improvement
The Go Go Mumma
Tick, Tick, Tick - joining my Brother Bear for lunch (who had visited 3 days consecutively) I knew I was in for a treat.

Consistent in all aspects of service and food, but the winner is their coffee art. The pride taken in each cup is unreal. My B.L.A.T - bacon, lettuce avocado and tomato sanga was full, fresh and delicious and or all $15.50, what a steal. Brother bears big fat liar (full breakky) was given the thumbs up. The desserts were light and tasted of homemade goodness, just like Aunty Betty’s

But seriously, back to the coffee art... I’m shook people it is A-maxing! If you only go to sample this it’s well worth the trip - Liar, liar is a must

I was here in this afternoon, the service was exceptional and coffee was brilliant. I had a cold brew, and it was unforgettable. Definitely be back here for their foods, they looks pretty good to me.

Ordered the sweet potato & kimchi fritters with poached & bacon and the smashed avocado with maple bacon. Absolutely delicious and great strong coffee! Staff were very pleasant and very eager to assist even though it was 39 degrees and a child broke a glass all over the floor. Definitely going back.
Harley Stafford
I had eggs Benedict and they were painfully average for the price point. Eggs were cooked to satisfaction, nothing special though. However it was served on supermarket ham and a very doughy crumpet.
Monique Walker
This is my new favourite cafe! I’ve been here a few times with friends and it has been consistently fantastic food. The food is delicious- I would highly recommend the fritters, they are the best fritters I’ve ever had at a cafe. The house baked beans are also worth a try in the colder months, with a big beautiful slice of saganaki I like to order with a side of spinach or mushrooms to add a veg element. The atmosphere is nice and light and the staff are pleasant but beware you may have to wait in busy periods. Very accomodating of dietary requirements! This is my new go to cafe.
Jean
Over rated particularly when there are so many good brunch places in this suburb. Coffee is average and the big breakfast is not that large. I won't be returning.
Jalena
LIT: great location, delicious food and coffee and friendly staff.

NOT LIT: could use with a good clean! Dusting on shelves and around the hanging lights :)

Highly recommend

Best soy latte i’ve ever had. Service was outstanding and fast.
Negative: way toooo sour smashed avo. Lemons were probably on sales that day
FOOD TRIP
Liar Liar is a café in Hawthorn that’s been on my list to try for years, so had high expectations for this one. The place is super busy on weekends so try to avoid the rush hours. Coffees are great and the dishes are delicious. Would recommend checking out!. Cappuccino $3.70Latte $3.70. Great coffees! Strong and creamy. No sugar needed. 8/10

Didn't wait long till a table is available on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm.
Happy with the service.
Food come out nice and hot....And really big in portion size.
Taste was good...But just can't finished it all..Cause a lot of potato or carb here.
Overall not a bad place...Worth going if u live nearby.
Aanart Bhachech
Had planned a brekky trip to this place and man it was really amazing. This is actually my first 5.0. Extremely satisfied. We ordered a Smashed Avocado which was superb! We also got a House Baked Beans with Saganaki which was quite a delight. We also got an Orange Juice and a Mocha both of which were great. Overall an amazing experience and will surely go again. I strongly recommend the House Baked Beans with Saganaki.
Gina Yin
Overall experience was good. Friendly Service, reasonable price, nice coffee.
Ordered pants on fire (baked egg) and pull over. Turkey bread is very nice and goes with banked egg very well. Pull over is pretty good quality.
The Broneills
The urbanlist said the Bircher muesli here was the best going around - and it didn’t disappoint!
The muesli and the Eggs on toast/bacon/rosti were delicious with generous serving portions!
Very nice coffee too and the wait staff were friendly and attentive.

The ONLY criticism was that for a small cafe, the music was far too loud, and as the tables are quite large, you could barely hold a conversation. It’s got to be ambient level background music, not take over the whole joint.

Other than that, very impressed.
Georgia
Service is pretty good. Coffee is nice and well presented. The food is honestly phenomonal! The dishes are amazing! I have had the ricotta hotcakes and a potato breakfast dish (I forgot the name of it). It was delicious! The only thing I don't like about the place is the heat inside. There is no air conditioning and it feels like you're in a butterfly house! Everything else is perfect!
AmyBurns12
Had a lovely time here, portions were very decent and the food was well prepared. Will be coming back!

(Slight problem was getting charged for someone else's meal but they were so lovely when we realised the mistake- it happens!) lovely staff
Couchfoodie
This cafe is great to go to on a nice day! We were fortunate enough to snag a seat inside by the window. It was quite a cold day so the sun shining on us was suburb!. We ordered the Liar Liar Hash and the Baked Eggs. I didn’t get to try the baked eggs but it was a generous serving!. My Liar Liar hash wasn’t what I was expecting. I actually thought it was going to be a hash brown! None the less, the dish was really tasty so can’t complain!

My favourite coffee in Hawthorn!! I also drink soy milk and it is always perfect (other cafes sometimes curdle milk?)
Staff are so inviting and easy to deal with - will always substitute food instead of charging extra. Food is always yum and a decent sized portion. Love this place!

What a cute hidden cafe around the corner just off Glenferrie road. It was packed and full of life. The menu is interesting with lots of options. Prices are standard for cafes in the area. They were happy to accomodate for vegans. Maple glazed bacon was heaven on earth. Eggs were cooked beautifully. Placed on the window on a beautiful sunny day in Melbourne. Couldn't ask for more.

Been here a few times now! Smashed avocado is simply superb! Amazing size and great bread! Also had the hash meal - great as well! Nice staff and quality coffee. Interior done to be like a modern cafe, not too large and not too crowded. Will come back again to try more on the menu!
Just A Girl Who Loves Food
Been here a few times and have always had pretty decent food. However, they've forgotten that I've ordered gluten free bread twice now and had to go back to the kitchen to have it remade. Other than that, always pretty good.

Absolutely delicious pancakes: huge, generous portion, fluffy and warm. Best pancakes in whole Melbourne (trust me - I have tried them all).

Liar liar is a place I've been wanting to go to for a while but have always been advised that it involves a massive wait. However I did not find this at all. I arrived around 12.45. found plenty of street parking on kinkora Rd. Was seated within 10 minutes by a super friendly and accommodating waitress.

Was handed two really large menus with so so many options. All brekkie options were of affordable value between 17-20 dollars with their lunch specials being even more affordable. Unlike anywhere I've been they also do half meals for 1.50 less. Omg. Is this heaven or what.

Between the two of us we for the Atlantic salmon eggs ebendict which was two slices of English muffin topped with a heart serving of salmon, two poached eggs, three asparagus spears and plenty of hollandaise sauce. Nothing extraordinary and nothing you couldn't make at home.

The Liar liar hash was not much of a hash but really larger @cubed potato with some steamed spinach, slices of bacon and fried onion with a poached egg again doused in hollandaise with a small piece of sourdough. Again nothing extraordinary but well salted and really filling.

Nicevibe. Lots of options. Coffee was strong not hot enough but good.

They do split bills. Chilled vibe. We were not rushed out and stayed there for around two hours chatting and eating and enjoying our meals.

Have a quick lunch with my friends in a chill saturday afternoon.
I have a Poached chicken salad, which is perfect and super delicious. I love the texture of the salad with juicy soft slices of chicken breast with walnuts. It also comes with a sourdough but I skip that because I'm on low carb diet. My friend has a chicken pide, which he loves as well. Overall, it was a nice dining experience. We came around 2 so it's not that crowded.
Highly recommended!

Got the eggs bene with the potato rosti on the side, overall I really enjoyed the dish. I thought the crumpets added a nice twist compared to your usual English muffin on an eggs bene. Couldn't really fault the dish except maybe the crumpets could be slightly more toasted for that extra crunch.
Pinch Of Bacon
A bit of a disappointment. The avocado in the smashed avo was overly acidic and the sourdough bread was bland. The smoked salmon was also very bland with no lemon to balance the flavour.

Liar Liar is located in Hawthorn and is home of some of the best food and coffee in the area.
Liar Liar has a pretty interesting menu, with a number of mouth-watering breakfasts and lunches to choose from.....

super warm and tasty sweet potato & black beans hash! I'm so happy with the choice. And also they have nice service and very valuable dish. :))))
Taylorclaireeliza
Service was bad as we had a 40 minute weight just to order coffees. Food was okay but nothing special. There were 2 cute puppies in jackets though, so that's a plus.

With Winter becoming colder each day, a nice hearty brunch is what I need to keep myself warm and Liar Liar was a fantastic choice for this Sunday. We were greeted by the super friendly and casual staff on a busy morning during which everyone at the venue seemed calm and collected. Even the baristas who had heaps of orders were nowhere near stressed and executed their craft in the best possible way which prompted us to get a refill on our usual Latte and Magic order. For food, we ordered the Spanish style omelette and the sweet potato and black bean hash. The omelette was super moorish with soft, delicately roasted potatoes, Spanish capsicum and a sweet sauce to top it off. The egg in this dish was cooked to perfection - airy and fluffy on the inside while with solid crunch on the top. The sweet potato and bean dish was superbly balanced in flavour. The saltiness of the savoury part of the dish was paired with the sticky umami of the egg yolk and the neutral enhancing flavour of the avo, topped with the zestiness of the lemon juice that we drizzled over. Finally, even the bread was super amazing with heaps of seeds, almost like a traditional German loaf. Overall, a great brunch experience that would have been a 5/5 if the prices were a little less steep. Seb

Always love coming here! Enjoyed a lovely Saturday morning brunch in the sun with coffee so good we'd had two each before we ate! Always a good feed, I ordered the ricotta hot cakes and my bf had the veggie breakfast and added bacon. Food came out super hot, the hot cakes were fluffy and the berry coulis wasn't too sweet, I could only manage 2/3 hot cakes they were so big! Great value for money!
My boyfriend was happy with his too, perfectly poached eggs, the side of beans were full of flavour and the veggie components were well seasoned
We did have a trouble getting served and had to go inside and ask for a waitress to come see us but definitely not a big deal for us
Such a great place, nice as a treat as it is a little on the pricy side but well worth it 😋
*apologies for average pics, was too eager to start

A great cafe! I visited with my son on a Saturday morning. The staff were very attentive and took our coffee order promptly. The place was thriving and the coffee was great. Our breakfast was delicious too. My son had sautéed potatoes with bacon, spinach and a poached egg. I had sweet potato with black beans and fried eggs. Superb! Would definitely recommend.

I have been here 3-4 times and everytime the food has been great, the service is fast and although the place is always packed on Saturday morning for brunch, the food comes out quickly.

Presentation of food is easy on the eyes, and the palate 😄
My favourite thing on the menu is the smashed avocado 🥑 with MAPLE BACON! Hands down
Decent Feed
The staff here are so friendly! Came in looking for a table for 2 during a really busy period, and the guy that was serving us was able to find us a table within a matter of seconds! Really appreciated the exceptional customer service here.
Ordered the chicken pide, and I loved everything about it, especially how simple it was.

I went here today for brunch. I got a park out the front which was awesome as parking is at premium here.

The service at liar liar was fantastic. I was immediately served and given a seat. No sooner had I sat down was I given a menu, and cutlery.

I ordered a piccolo latte which was really good w a great flavour.

For brunch I ordered a toasted chicken pide and although the cafe was packed it came in no time at all. Thank you to the kind waitress :)

The chicken pide was delicious, and this was one of the best pides that I've eaten in a cafe. It reminded me of an old Turkish shop that I used to buy them from many moons ago.

Overall this place was spot on. It was a great experience and I got the impression that this is a place where you go to relax, take your time and soak in the industrial surroundings. My kinda place haha

Oh and they had outdoor seating if you wanted some UV.

I'll be back 😊

Friendly service makes up for the occasional less than perfect coffee. Good menus with serves that are almost to big. Fritters and baked beans are the highlight.

Brilliant little cafe in Hawthorn. The coffee is outstanding and the breakfast menu is full of delicious options. Our weekend favourite due to the wonderful service, the superb location just off Glenferrie Rd and lovely staff.

Great cafe and lovely staff! Food is not too fancy and always guaranteed to taste good and give you big servings. I love the matcha lattes they do!

Went on Saturday morning with my husband for breakfast. I ordered the Ricotta hotcakes and Quinoa with Potato Hash with Smoked Salmon.

There was no wow factor with the hotcakes but were decently portioned and quite filling. I ordered extra bacon; came out oily, they could have just pat it down a bit.

The Quinoa with Potato hash was average, my husband said was quite plain and he was still hungry even after finishing the dish. He had half of one of my hot cakes which he said filled him up more than his dish as a whole.

The hot chocolate is perfect though - slightly sweet but bitter as well. I would definitely go back for a take away coffee.

I will mention the staff are extremely friendly and attentive. Even though we were sitting outside, we definitely were not forgotten.

Overall, I probably won't be rushing back to Liar Liar. If you haven't tried it, worth a visit either way as there are plently of other menu options.
A local favourite, I've never been disappointed with liar liar. Anything and everything on the menu is beautifully cooked! Try the baked eggs (if it's still on the menu)!!! Delish! I think this place started the whole 'brunch' thing.

Just on a usual Sunday, I feel hungry after the service. So I decided to go on brunch alone. Although it is a bit lonely, but luckily the service in the cafe is satisfied.

I decided to get an iced latte to start off with and go for the liar liar hash. It is a generous proportion for me, the hash is really nice and the bacon, poached egg and the spinach has balanced each other without one overpowering.

This has jumped to one of my top 10 brunch places in Melbourne!!
Good Food Good Mood
The house baked beans served with a poached egg, saganaki, pesto and sourdough is probably my favourite savoury breakfast in Melbourne. Utterly delicious. It's literally the very definition of bursting with flavour. You may have to wait for a table but it is certainly worth enduring. Truly eggcelent
Sweet And Sour Fork
Chris and I spotted the Ricotta Hotcakes with Almond Cream, Berry Coulis, and Maple Syrup ($17.5) at the same time, and agreed that it sounded delicious. And indeed, these gave Pancake Parlour a run for their money, and then some. The stack of hotcakes was hot and fluffy, studded with pockets of gooey ricotta. They weren’t too sweet either, which made the tangy coulis and sticky syrup the perfect indulgence.

You can't come to a place called Liar Liar and resist ordering the Pants on Fire (that's the dish), which will set your taste buds alight with baked eggs, chorizo, Turkish bread and lots of zingy spices *but* that quinoa and potato rosti was just an awesome combination of textures and flavours. Other friends enjoyed their vegie stacks and eggs benedict - evidenced by the total silence that fell over our table after the food arrived. Generous serves that had us waddling out the door. A light, modern setting complemented by polite, smiley staff.

Had the salmon, eggs, asparagus, sour dough with the hollandaise sauce.
Fresh juice and coffee are really good
I think the presentation of the food could of been better though.

A winner on all fronts!!! Great spot! Delicious food! Lovely service! Everything you could want in a brunch place! All the standard favourites on the menu and Liar Liar have nailed them all! Can't wait to come back!

Amazing food with such a good selection of dishes! And great service! Always coming back for more :)

This place is amazing. On arrival on a fairly busy Saturday morning I was greeted and sat cheerfully. My drink order of soy chai latte was taken and arrived shortly. It was absolutely delicious! I ordered the house-made beans and the first bite blew me away. The saganaki was crisp and flavorful on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside, the beans were full of genuine spices and flavor, egg was poached beautifully and the pesto was lovely. I am 100% coming back to taste more of the menu. The staff are fun and friendly, the girl who settled the bill and I had a nice chat (someone should give her a raise, and the girl who served me for they both made an effort to connect with the customers).

Good food and coffee! Service was awesome too :) we had 2 salads and both were fresh and tasty. Will recommend a visit for anyone in the area!
BIRCHER QUEEN 👑
I hate it when a restaurants online menu is different to the menu onsite... I purposely went here for a specific dish from the menu which was on the website and was shattered when the menu I was handed in the cafe was different. Other than that the service was good - friendly and attentive. I ended up getting the Bircher which wasn't anything special. My friend got the fritters which looked good.
