Review St. Cloud Eating House - Hawthorn

Great place to have lunch with friends. Cool ambience, friendly staff and fantastic food. They are checking covid certificates pretty closely, which is a positive for me. Would recommend. Only downside was parking, which was super hard to find a place for longer than 2 hours, had to shift the car mid way through our meal

Considered one of the healthiest cuisines in the world, Vietnamese food is characterized by it's bright, fresh ingredients. Most of the dishes incorporate ginger, fresh mint, fresh coriander, cinnamon, bird’s eye chili, lime and basil leaves. Was super happy to find this super authentic eatery in hawthorn east @stcloudeatinghouse , Food which is dynamic, lively and their recipe for making Vietnamese culture come to life. Not to mention it’s a great value for money! We had an their feed me menu and its such a big feast- over two courses, feast on a banquet of their classic dishes with delicious cocktails! My favourite from the lot was Sot Vang Braised Beef Ribs, melt in mouth and delicious. The cocktails were really refreshing too, this one is one of my last and most cherished summer meals this year❤️

Went for a lunch meeting which was more lunch than meeting. We had the Feed Me menu with seafood and really enjoyed ourselves. The fish and scallops were fresh and tasty, the beer and cocktails cold and spicy, but the pork belly stole the show. Great services with a smile. All up, must return.

Finally went here after my wife kept nagging me for ages. Glad I did as the food was delicious! I've never had Vietnamese food that I have enjoyed before, but this was great. We had the fish sauce caramel wings, beef ribs and chicken rice paper rolls. Staff were lovely and friendly too. Looking forward to coming back!

Nice relaxed environment and lovely waiting staffs, but it doesn't make up the fact that food is quite disappointing. Dinner time only offers set menu aT $55 or $65 pp without drink or dessert. We took the $55 option. Rice paper rolls taste not freshly made as the skin has lot its chewy texture due to sitting in fridge. I don't like the fish filling but that could be personal. The zucchini and tofu taste quite plain, although tofu itself is nice, I just don't see the reason of this boring dish. Chicken wing is probably the best on the entire menu, would be perfect if they give two pieces of sticky rice cube instead of one, as it is a two people portion. Beef in main has good charcoal flavour and you can tell it's good quality beef, but they over cooked it and it was tough. Pork belly is very salty and lack of other flavour, also very dry. Salads are good but nothing impressive. Over food quality can probably reach 3 stars but given the expensive price, it drops to 2 stars.

Found a local Vietnamese feas. Pham’s Classic Feed Me menu for 2 just for $110. The food and cocktails here are delicious and so refreshing. The feed me menu is more than enough for 2, you get 3 entrees - 2 mains - 2 sides + Rice. Love the pork belly and lamb. Soooo soft and tender, full of flavour. We were so full and satisfied after our meal. The Viet Slaw is addictive and easy got demolished Excellent quality food and portion size. The staff are so kind and lovely. Service is top notch, always making sure customers are happy and satisfied. Featured: 🍴Chicken Wings 🍴Lemongrass chilli chicken rice paper rolls 🍴Roasted Pumpkin 🍴Caramel Pork Belly 🍴Coconut Braised Lamb Shank 🍴Vietnamese Slaw 🍴Wok Tossed Broccolini 🥃Citrus Lantern 🍸Lady Boi Definitely recommend and their feed menu. You have to try all the above dishes

We booked weeks ago for mothers day for the $55 menue, when we got there we were told it was set menue and was $65 a head. We tried to tell them that's not what we booked and was told nothing they could do about it. The tables were so tightly packed/ pooly laid out we genuinely couldn't get to our seats. Despite having noted at booking and confirming over phone the diatries of the table they had no idea about them when we got there and whilst they swapped out some items on the menue all the gluten free items kept coming out way later than everything else meaning people with diatries had to sit there waiting. The menue was so confusing and the wait staff was just as confused. Some courses were to share and everyone got a portion, some courses we were told by wait staff was each person gets there own however they were served sharing style (e.g if two people ordered pork belly they came in the same bowl despite being on the other side of the table and not having been given sharing plates). There was two desert on the menue which did not say they were to share hence we were very confused when for a table of 8 there was 4 small plates put on the table (2 brownie and 2 cheesecakes ) which were very much single person serves and were told we needed to share them between us. Photo below of the tiny cheescake serve that was meant to be split 4 ways. On top of that there was no concession given to the person who couldn't eat gluten so they were only able to have 1/4 of a gluten free brownie.even more confusing was that we weren't given any utensils to share the deserts?! Even as im writing this review I'm baffled over how poorly planned this event was. Every wait staff we spoke to gave us a different answer on what was happening with the deserts. The waitress had to reconfirm what our mains selection was multiple times before getting it right instead of just writing it down and when we complained to the manager about it we were met with a lot of attitude and told sorry but thats the way it is. The manager did agree to honour the original price we booked at but there was no apology or sense of caring that we had had a really bad experience. Especially since this was for mothers day we were really upset. Some dishes were good some were very average. The pork belly which was meant to have crackling did not and was very soggy. The tiny morale of desert we did get was meh and again the cheesecake base was super soggy. We were told good things and were excited to come here but won't be coming back.

St Cloud focuses on share plates and drinks, leaning a bit more Asian fusion than authentic Vietnamese. We ordered a serve of the chicken rice paper rolls and chicken spring rolls (2 pieces per serve) to share between 4. Both were nice but quite pricey for the size. For main, we ordered the beef ribs with 2 serves of rice. Ribs were quite rich due to star anise and red wine but a huge serving. My favourite dish was the wok tossed rice noodles in satay sauce. This dish was refreshing and the perfect side to a meat. The 2 entrees, main meat and 'salad' noodles between the 4 of us was enough ($90). If you are big eaters, it may be better value to get the Feed Me menu. I have previously enjoyed the poached chicken and jungle curry takeaway. The interior upstairs is lovely and cosy and would make a great function location though it can get noisy. Service was a bit pushy with a few instances of trying to take our plates when people were still eating.

Despite appearances this is very average. Staff lovely place works like a clockwork ballet but there ends the allurement. Food all tastes the same and is hit and miss. The coconut pancakes we were recommend were soggy oily and bland. Chicken wings tasty but dry and pork belly too strongly flavored by master sauce although tender and crackling burnt and slightly rancid. A measure of wine is a miserable 3 mouthfuls. We however had a delightful waitress but no. We wont return.

Terrible service! Made a booking for dinner on a Saturday evening for 8:15.. Arrived on time and was told that our table was upstairs and to head up and be seated.. Walked up and waited on the stairs behind 3 other couples for about 5 minutes.. We got to the top of the stairs and continued to wait behind another 2 couples.. 20 minutes passed.. still waiting and in that time we were not approached by staff or given any indication to when we'd be seated. I spoke to a table of 3 who were already seated next to where we were waiting and they had not even be offered drinks after being seated for 15 . The poor quality in service was evident and a decision was made to go elsewhere. We informed one of the waiting staff of our decision and that we were displeased with the service but appeared to have fallen on deaf ears.

Mediocre, and severely overpriced food which has been poorly executed from recipe to plate...and some that just shouldn't exist as a dish. The lamb is a gamble- I mean what was I to expect when you take a fatty piece of lamb, roll it in an earthy spice, and add shredded papaya. What is likely the worst service I've experienced with a restaurant- was I wrong to expect to be able to order a drink? To have our mains arrive within an hour of clearing our appetisers? To order what the table wanted to order, and not have the menu shoved down our throats?

Food, service (Josh J) and music was amazing. On point! !! Would recommend for sure. The steam banana pudding

Our waiter Adam was lovely. Good was good & cocktails yum. Bit loud & stuffy & took over 30 mins to get our drinks.

Always have a great meal here. Service is always exceptional- and the food... so delicious! Congratulations for acknowledging that some kids have two dads! Thanks for the free beer for both of us.

Fabulous food, efficient friendly and well informed staff, and impeccable service in a busy busy well patronised environment Definitely recommend. THOSE Chicken wings and sticky rice were unbelievably awesome.

Had a wonderful birthday lunch here with most of my family. We opted for the banquet - I think it was called Pham's Classics. Every dish was just so yummy - the Caramelised Pork Belly with Sticky rice was just amazing. They catered for two vegetarians - one who eats seafood and one not. Drinks Menu was also great. I opted for the St Cloud Spritz - so good I had two. We will certainly be going back.

Food was just so refreshingly different with the flavours to die for. Wait staff were helpful, freindly and efficient. We will return!

Couldn’t fault it. We basically ordered everything on the menu - all amazing, drinks were topped up promptly all night (I hate my life today at work), stunning decor.
Rebecca Aoukar
Really yummy food! Every dish we ordered was nice and great service lovely atmosphere too!

The most amazing Vietnamese food I’ve had in Australia, seriously great cuisine and AMAZING service from all staff we encountered!

Have been three times. First time was great. Last two times (which happened to be tonight, and last night) were shocking. Inattentive wait staff, told "no you can't have dessert because we need this table" despite waiting 45 mins for service. Don't get me wrong the food is good. But service is shocking here. Hope they can fix this and improve the restaurant service and I'll go back

For a solo diner this space is inviting modern dark and industrial yet still has privacy with good service to make you feel at ease. The food is a modern take on traditional Thai, and if your palate is accustomed to the sweet fragrant flavours of Thai, then you will be on for a shock but once this wears off you will see it is a pleasant shock, one that elevates your experience o Thai to a new level. The food is cooked well, served well, polite efficient and portions are goods
The red curry dishes are not sweet, more a sour or bitter taste, drier than one is used to, but this is the whole point of going, to challenge your conceptions of Thai and experience a whole new show
Stand out dish
The pork belly dish
Generous
Spicy
And never have I had such large dark irk belly served to me but once home
I craved it once more
A stand out dish
Well done
Disappointed is the only word I can use to describe my experience. There was totally raw chicken In my spring rolls. This, in my opinion, is the worst thing that can happen to someone at a restaurant. No adjustments were made on the bill either until I complained to get the spring rolls for free - what a gesture!

When I told the waiter that I had raw chicken in my spring roll and showed him, he said he would take it back to get another batch without apologising. This was definitely a disappointing initial response. Upon bringing back the spring rolls, he did say "sorry about that" - slightly better.

When I went to pay, no adjustments had been made - we were asked to pay for every thing, INCLUDING the spring rolls. I'm not sure whether this is because I'm young and they thought they could exploit that, or because I was polite. But this was ridiculous. Of course, the waitress complied and apologised and gave us the spring rolls for free. However, I do believe that an instance such a this warrants a genuine gesture rather than simply neutralising the loss (which wasn't the case for me).

Also - the BBQ chicken was bland and certainly lacked flavoured. The rice paper rolls and wok tossed beef were nice though.

All in all, it was the way it was dealt with that disappoints me the most. It was as I'd received a piece of steak that I'd requested to be well done that came medium-rare: "I'll go get you another one" followed by no compensation as a gesture prompted the restaurant.

I will certainly not be coming back to this restaurant and I will not be recommending.

Such good value for money especially considering how good the food tasted. Added bonus was how friendly the staff were!

First time and definitely the last time. Witnessed the chef yelling at a waiter for being incompetent, so incredibly rude and stupid to do so especially in an open plan kitchen. Then the chef continued to role his eyes at other staff members. Proving that it wasn’t the waiters, it was his temper because they all seemed intimidated by him. Nobody seemed to care. Maybe because it was Hawthorn? Not ok, hope the staff members quit.

Regarding food, had the special which was fish. Both my friend and I thought it was too dry and bland without any sauce. Def not worth $35-$40.

Duck dumplings were great. Won’t go back due to rude management.

We decided to give St Cloud Eating House a try last night and I have to say we had the most amazing experience – the service was superb, the vibe was great and the staff are friendly and helpful. As for the food……. the pork belly and coconut lamb were both just absolutely crazy good!!! We will definitely be back – THANKS!!!

One of my absolute favourite restaurants in Melbourne, St Cloud is one that I return to time and time again. I have never had a bad meal here, and the food is seriously good. With two levels of dining space, I love the rooftop area with it's tropical decor and swing chairs. It has such a chilled vibe and a happy atmosphere.

Service is amazing with the staff taking great care of you. Offering suggestions from the menu and happy to answer questions, they really are so helpful and lovely. Our drinks didn't take long to arrive, and the food courses followed in quick succession.

From amazing dumplings, spring rolls and duck donuts; to succulent beef ribs and delicious pork belly; each dish is a taste sensation with the right amount of spice and flavour, and fabulous textures too. Each dish just leaves you wanting for more. The desserts are also fab with their unique Asian twists on classics. Again, so much flavour and each dish is sensational.

Every time I've been here it has been solidly booked out, so the restaurant has a happy buzz. It's popularity is just further proof that the team at St Cloud know what they are doing... delivering top quality food with love and passion.

Amazing decor but very loud. Food was average Anglo-Viet cuisine. Personally believe the rice paper rolls need to swap the dipping sauce with the fried spring rolls to get a better flavor combination. Chicken ribs were delish. Not very authentic but decent cuisine. Not impressed that the waitress mispronounced “Ph-Oh”. Good venue for an event.

Having driven past this restaurant multiple times and having been here a while ago, we decided to return for a second run.

We ordered the $55 per person set menu and were extremely impressed. There was a wide range of very tasty dishes with the pork belly being the highlight for me. Ambiance was lovely and service was outstanding. Will definitely be returning here.

From a food perspective, St Cloud Eating House is truly a saint!

Nomnomnom! They might be a bit pricey but they have very generous portion.

The pork belly was tender juicy and not too oily. And the wok tossed noodles was delicious on its own with loads of black beans in the sauce. The duck donut was great, the chilli sauce was great with the noodles too.

The service was tentative.

i’ve driven past St Cloud so many times, finally had dinner there last night! cutest place located in Hawthorn!

i made a booking over the phone and for a Saturday night they were super busy, even though i had made a reservation, had to wait 15 mins for my table! nevertheless the staff were friendly and service was quick.

i came to St Cloud because 97% of the menu is gluten free and i was so excited! so many gluten free options were on the menu, so my friends and i tried a few dishes! (they are also coeliac and loved all the options on the menu)

we had the Vietnamese duck donuts, chicken rice paper rolls, ben tre coconut curry, banh khot (turmeric and coconut pancakes) and chicken wings!

a stand out dish for me were the Vietnamese duck donuts, had no idea what to expect when we ordered them, but they sounded so good so we ordered them and...they were damn amazing!!! they are made up of shitake, edamame beans, ginger, spring onion and a super SPICY sriracha sauce!

really loved trying some new food and the flavours were outstanding! I’ll definitely be back again!

A very nice place to spend an evening eating delicious food.
This may be my new favourite place.

Met a friend for an early dinner (5.30 pm on a Tuesday). By the time we had finished at 7.15 pm the place was bustling and I can see why.

To start (while we were deciding what to chose from the menu) we shared a plate of spring rolls and a serve of fresh rice paper rolls with a salmon filling.

The rice paper rolls were plump and packed with fresh ingredients. The spring rolls however will small and the filling almost non existent.

For the main course my friend had a half serve of the caramel pork belly and I had the trout special. We shared a bowl of rice and wok tossed vegetables. Both were generous, well cooked and delicious.

For desert we shared the chocolate tart with cherries. Again delish! A very generous portion which would have been too much for one person (can't believe I'm saying that).

The waiting staff were not able to answer our questions about the menu without checking with the kitchen but overall they were friendly and attentive.

This is a place I will definitely be visiting again.

Food - 4*
Service - 3.5*
Ambiance - 4*

Great service, easy to find and really nice for out. the food was really good, we enjoyed all our meals and they let us take our left overs home. Will be back soon!

Dreamy St Cloud was a go-to destination for my family’s catch ups since it opened in late 2015. The two-story restaurant is a mix of modern Vietnamese and trendy bar with many diners choosing it as a spot for romantic dates, friends’ catch ups, and (usually in our case) family get togethers. I totally impressed by the menu, atmosphere and interesting drinks list.

I love St. Cloud for a few reasons: the décor, the ambience, the amazing food and cocktails - including vegan options!

The last time I went was last year! I had a lovely Aperol Spritz and the Eggplant dish. I see there are some new vegan dishes available, so I will have to pop in and try some more soon!

St Cloud Eating House is located on Burwood Road in Hawthorn. The interior is stunning, a gorgeous space downstairs & a beautiful rooftop garden upstairs.

Offering a great range of modern Vietnamese dishes, the menu is creative covers all bases including some fantastic vegetarian & vegan dishes. I’ve visited a number of times & have always been blown away by the quality of the food.

I love the rice paper rolls, super fresh & tasty with a generous amount of fillings. The caramel pork belly is incredible, the meat falling apart in a rich & aromatic sauce. The roast pumpkin dish is a favourite, served with whipped tofu, chilli oil & Vietnamese satay.

St Cloud also have some sensational cocktails, the Lady Boi is divine, vodka, lychee, watermelon, pomegranate & egg white. I also love their house made sodas, the lychee & passionfruit is such a refreshing combination.

With consistently impressive food & drinks as well as a beautiful interior, St Cloud is one of my favourite venues for a catch up & a few cheeky cocktails in the rooftop garden area. Highly recommend checking this place out.

Delish food! Although everything was REALLY yummy, we found the starters (duck donuts, chicken rice paper rolls & vegetarian pancake) to be better than the mains (beef ribs & pork belly). Lychee & white choc mousse was lovely, albeit a bit over-priced for serving size. Only gripe is that our starters were served to us before our drinks had even arrived. Would definitely return though.

Highly recommend: beef ribs, spicy chicken wings and rolls and everything else on the menu !
It’s a hidden gem of Hawthorn ! We came here on a lovely Sunday afternoon for lunch and were truly amazed by their dishes. The sauces that complement the rolls were delicious. We delved into every single drops of it. The beef ribs was so soft and tender that it fell apart the moment you picked them up. The spicy sweet chicken wings were full of flavour and super crunchy that we licked our fingers clean at the end of it while having our food coma. We will definitely bring our friends along next time!

We absolutely loved our dinner at St Cloud. With a meat loving coeliac and vegetarian in the mix it can be very difficult to find somewhere accomodating to everyone’s needs and preferences, and St Cloud was just the perfect solution!

Highlights from our meal were the sticky tamarind beef ribs (fall off the bone perfect) and the roast pumpkin (one of the best vege dishes I’ve ever had!). I would also recommend the duck donuts for their originality even though I didn’t absolutely love them (couldn’t help comparing them to Dexter’s) and the beautiful roast chicken.

Highly recommend for big groups as everyone will find something to love, and everyone else who loves Asian fusion done well and with a playful twist. Service and venue were also impeccable and overall we can’t wait to go again!

My rating would actually be a 3.5 based on my overall recent dinner experience for a special day.
Went on a Saturday evening and this place is busy and very very loud. You can't listen to people on your own table unless you do shout your lungs out.
We booked a table with a kid, and as we walked in were assigned a high bar like sitting. I have never been to a restaurant with my kid and was told to seat on a high posture seating; which obviously is hard for kids to reach out to their food. Well clearly there wasn't any common sense prevailing and I can conclude it is not at all a kid-friendly restaurant.
I have always found food to be good and fresh but their service way too slack, and this evening's dinner experience being no exception. This was the first time I took my wife here & she wasn't impressed. However, there's was with this young girl who served our table (not sure of her name), she did her best to make us feel comfortable. Menu doesn't offer too many varieties and is not properly balanced to have a perfect meal unless you are in a big group.
I have been to lunch couple of times and definitely their lunch menu is better and provides you with greater choice.
Summing up, ordered BEEF RIBS and it was great. Not a comfortable dinning experience given the noice and slack service & ohh ya don't take your kid for dinner here.
Food Fiend Melbourne
Favourite, local venue to have a drink with friends or a proper, sit down meal. The food is outstanding, the vibe is great, but the prices are a bit high. The cocktails are strong, but worth the money. My stand out menu items would be the pumpkin/tofu curry and the beef short ribs. The spring rolls are also a must. I highly recommend pairing any of the mains with the noodles - much better than rice. I am SO glad to have such a delicious and trendy restaurant over the road from my house :)

What's our no. 1 tip for the best experience at St Cloud? Before we get to that, if you’re in Hawthorn and feeling like Vietnamese but more than the standard comfort fare, we would recommend St Cloud Eating House on 644 Burwood Road (Hawthorn East). The decor is well thought out and the service is consistently friendly and attentive.

3.5*!! While there are a few great dishes at St Cloud there are also a few that are lacking. It’s a great venue to meet with friends and to take kids along. Very spacious interior and lovely staff. We tried :
Chicken Wings : Sticky goodness!9/10
Salmon rice paper rolls: great portion size and lots of filing
Dumplings: the filing was slightly dry and the dipping sauce was missing something.
Prawn & Pork Spring rolls: found the rolls slightly dry but when eaten with the lettuce it was nicer.
BBQ Eggplant: Loved this one! Packed full of flavour and textures. 9/10
Pork belly : Yum! Melt in the mouth pork and the sauce tasted amazing with rice.
Beef short rib: bit of a miss, the beef wasn’t tender but flavours were good.
Flourless chocolate cake : wish the cake was cooked a little less but when mixed with all the salty, sweet and creamy goodness on top it was great!
Mistermister
3.5 stars. This place has a great vibe about it. Bustling and very loud. If you’re in a big group it can be hard to hear around the table. The food was average. Sweet potato curry and pork belly was the tastiest. I don’t now about truely authentic, but it did have a cute twist with each dish served. The wine list was not as broad regarding choices for red. I would have enjoyed more red varieties on the menu. Plenty of Shiraz options, one Pinot noir, no cab sauv or merlot on offer. There was one really disappointing blend from Geelong. Cocktail list was decent.

My first visit here and loved it! The service was attentive, genuine and warm. The food was perfection! So fresh and delicious with bold flavours in every mouthful. The dipping sauce we had with the little turmeric pancakes was just about drinkable! Atmosphere was upbeat and relaxed. I'll be returning when back in Melbourne. Beware though, we ordered a dessert each and it was too much! I'd recommend sharing that. Great range of gluten free options.
Vanessa
Food that leaves a lasting impression 👌 Vietnamese fusion with delicious flavour combinations. This place gets busy so it’s best to make a booking before hand. We didn’t but they still managed to fit us at the bar. Wonderful service and the atmosphere is warm & friendly. I recommend this place if you’re after a fine dining experience that won’t disappoint.

I’ve had St Cloud bookmarked since the day it opened, but then moved states and never got a chance to go. Until this weekend. And it did not disappoint. Booking was easy, staff were friendly, although the upselling of food and drinks got a bit much towards the end.

The food was awesome, we couldn’t stop eating even when we were full! We ordered 2 entrée plates and 2 mains to share between 4 people and we had plenty of food leftover. I feel like we could have skipped the entrees, or only ordered one main. However I’m glad we didn’t because we got to try all of the delicious food!

The pink cocktail jug was definitely my favourite of the two available.

Great environment, great food, great company. Will definitely be back!

Service was really really really really bad, keep asking for order dishes, but we haven't decided what we want to eat, and the waitress was so unfriendly!!!!!!!!!! And we ask for take away, she didn't hear that and we wait for a long time, when we ask the take away dishes, she speaks unfriendly, the food was good but the service is disappointed and disgusting.
Rachel
When you are in the area next, check out this modern Vietnamese joint. The interior of St Cloud is modern with a great vibe. We had the banquet menu for two and it was yum! Whilst they also do a standard chicken pho and daily banh mi, there are other modern twist Vietnamese dishes.
Emma
First time trying this place and I really liked it! We were seated upstairs in the balcony as it was super busy, even on a Monday night. The green decor upstairs was uplifting, the food was served quickly and everything tasted delicious!
Didn't particularly enjoy the Pomelo Salad as I found it to be quite bland, but hey that may just be my tastebuds!

Fiercely fresh is St Cloud's motto and they deliver it in spades. The menu is interesting while still having plenty of crowd pleasing dishes that are best shared. The slow cooked eggplant is a standout as is the snake bean curry. The staff are friendly and know the menu inside out without being overbearing. Try to get a table upstairs where the atmosphere feels a little more laid back and don't leave without trying a cocktail.

Booked a table for a group of friends and was very pleased with everything here! Really nice ambience, flavoursome food and great service. Was a little unsure how the menu worked but the waitress explained kindly and recommended a few good dishes. We had a table of 8 and shared 2 servings of the spring rolls, dumplings, 2 roast chickens, eggplant dish, pork belly and rice and was surprisingly very filling! Thought it was a little on the pricy side at first but it’s actually so worth it considering how filling it was. Was able to bring a birthday cake for my friend and the waiters brought it out and stared singing happy birthday which was so nice of them. Will definitely be back and highly recommend St Cloud :)

Wonderful ambience wonderful food! What more can you ask for.

My friend and I came for a boozy Saturday night dinner and had a great time. It’s a little noisy but to be expected of a popular restaurant.
We ordered the spring rolls, chicken wings and beef cheek. Can’t fault any of it.

We also had an attentive and humorous waiter which is always appreciated. Thanks St Cloud!

First time here. On first impressions, it’s modern, rustic and pretty funky. St Clouds is a modern fusion Vietnamese restaurant or eating house.

On reviewing the menu, our eyes were really hungry and we probably ordered too much lol. Was worth it though. We had the duck doughnuts, cured ocean trout salad, the short ribs, pormelo salad, grilled egg plant and the braised pork belly in master stock with crackling. The fact that we didn’t have rice helped in our ability to devour the feast. The rice would’ve helped soak up that wonderful master stock used to braise the pork belly (oh well).

Overall, really enjoyed our meal last night and more than happy to return.

Absolutely delicious food! St. Cloud is a perfect place to catch up with friends and share an amazing feast. Great ambiance and lovely staff members!!
The chicken wings are to die for! So much flavor :)

I have heard of St Cloud Eating House before but it totally went under my radar until someone suggested we go there.

I really liked all of their entrees. We got scallop, chicken wing, duck donuts and they were amazing. The only thing that was great (but not amazingggg) is the Dumpling.

The mains were a bit disappointing though. I found both of the beef ribs and pork belly really salty. The pork belly was a bit tough and didn’t have a good balance of flavours, quite like the pork crackling though. Beef ribs are quite nice even though a bit salty.

We all have different opinions bout the desserts- I love the coffee scrolls but my dining companion felt the flavour is not strong enough. Everyone loved the poached pear and rhubarb but I just found it ok. The chocolate flurless cake is good but not mind blowing.

All in all, I would happily eat all the entrees and the coffee scroll dessert and give the mains a miss.
Been here twice now, and only good things to say about this place. Absolutely love coming here.
The atmosphere, the service, and the food has been excellent both times.

The pork belly and the beef ribs are exceptional, alongside the Vietnamese slaw is just to die for!

The service is always really good, the waiters/waitresses are always really friendly and assist you with ordering in accordance to the group size.

Definitely worth a visit! 😍

Fantastic food. The pork belly was delicious, we also had the Asian greens, rice and chicken wings. Everything was top notch. The cocktails were reasonably priced and overall very good. Coffee stroll you must try, and warm chocolate cake was good, dessert needs to be shared to enjoy it fully. Lovely ambience, and friendly staff. Will be heading there again to try the rest of the menu.

Nice place very modern.
Food was nice as to be expected if you like Vietnamese food.
Although for Vietnamese food it is very expensive probably the most expensive I have been to and is not worthy of charging these prices.
Main dish was 45 dollars and was noodles so not impressed.
I can eat at french fine dining cheaper .

I don’t know why this place has a low rating the food was yummy and the staff were friendly. We had the wok tossed greens and the chicken wings. Both very good. As we were leaving my friend and me were discussing when we could come back. 😋
Eating Away Melbourne
Really good asian food! Have been here couple of times and always wanting to come back for more. We ordered a big curry dish, a whole fish, two spring rolls and some rice and noodles. The waiter guy was doubting if we can finish everything and he was making fun of us in a really funny way. Good banter! Surprisingly we had two dessert as well, everything was sooo nice. The cocktails as well! Will definitely be back!

The food was great, especially the pork belly.
The most disappointing aspect was the service... at no point during our whole time there did someone come to ask if we wanted to order drinks, or food. We had to painfully try to get someone’s attention every time.
I intended on spending much more time here drinking, but we ended up going elsewhere because we simply could not get anyone’s attention. The tables adjacent to us had the same issue.

This vietnamese restaurant serves really delicious food. Literally everything we ordered was really good!

Taste 10/10
Food presentation 9/10
Service 9/10
Interior/exterior 10/10

Food was delicious. Service however, left a lot to be desired. Very rush, and made to feel awkward halfway through our set menu regarding the need for the table. Set menu dessert was yum, however, hard to share.
Especially with many sets of staff eyes on the table waiting for us to finish. Wouldn’t rush back in a hurry.

I went here with my family for a birthday. I have travelled through Vietnam and live near Victoria street which is the home to Vietnamese cuisine so I was not impressed with this place. The price of the entree’s are too expensive with hardly any food. The main’s were quite nice with a good quantity of food but the waiter keep prompting us to order more than 3 mains for 7 people which I thought was plenty and indeed it was just the right amount. Overall my family and I wouldn’t be back as the wait for the mains was long and the dishes are overpriced. Victoria Street has the same quality of food for half the price.

Wow! I love this place. It’s got such a modern and fun vibe to it.. totally ambient! Makes you wanna order a cocktail straight away which is what we did!! Drinks are delicious.. almost too delicious ;)
Food was completely flavoursome and satisfying. We ordered 3 starters and 2 mains for 3 people and we were definitely rolling out of there.
Lots of things on the menu I still want to try so I am definitely going to return! I have recommended this place to many and will continue to do so. The staff were also so lovely!

Exotic, artistic and modern - three words that describe the food, decor and overall feel of this place. The aesthetically decorated surroundings upstairs really added to the experience on a balmy evening outside among the greenery.

We were smitten with the dessert menu. Not wanting to miss out, we started with these first! we couldn't resist the temptation of a Glazed Chocolate Marquise, a Mango Pudding and a Coconut Cheesecake. There was a slight mix up with the order and a suitable apology. When all was sorted we happily savoured the tastes and textures of each dish, punctuated by frequent utters of hmm and yum. This was the highlight of the meal.

It's pretty hard to better this afterwards. We ordered the BBQ Eggplant, Pumpkin and Snakebean Curry and Duck Donuts. Deliciously flavoured chunks of duck were encased in a ball of fried dough, paired with a mild chilli sauce giving the dish a kick. The full sized Eggplant dish was huge but didn't have much flavour for me. My friends liked the Curry but sure if they found the Snakebeans. we ordered the half size here and the serve was generous.

Pleasant surroundings to try out the fusion cuisine with a Vietnamese influence.

Love it here. Authentic Vietnamese. Their chicken wings & slaw are my favourites. The beef with vermicelli is also excellent. You’ll want to order the whole menu. Service is good. A little bit too relaxed - but friendly & knowledgeable. Great wine list. The setting is great. Spend a whole Sunday lunch here when it’s not busy #vietnamese #yum
The fit out here is so nice, upstairs in the outdoor area is great in the warm weather. We had some rice paper rolls, I found the tofu ones pretty bland. My friends had the chicken ones and the satay type sauce they came with was really good. My friends had the chicken wings and weren’t really keen on them. We had the sweet potato curry for main, again I just found it pretty bland and unexciting. Also seemed pretty expensive for the serving size and the fact that’s it’s basically just potato’s and tofu..

Invited here for a family lunch on a Saturday (wasn't very busy, must've been cause close to Christmas), otherwise probably wouldn't have visited as I'm used to eating decent and better value Vietnamese food in Springvale, Richmond or Footscray. We had the lunch banquet which is usually $35p.h which is pretty good value, we definitely didn't leave hungry. The dishes were a little on the sweet side. A lot of the dishes were served with deep fried rice shaped as chips or cubes, good for soaking up sauce, was nice to eat at first, but because so many dishes came with them became a bit underwhelming after a while (would have been better if there was some variety in the accompaniments).

Definitely try the pork belly dish, sticky gooey tender deliciousness, must eat with rice to make the most of the sauce!

We sat upstairs which was quite hot (hot day), they had air con but they leave the bifold doors open. Upstairs is pretty out on the deck though with all the greenery and hanging chairs, there's even a scooter.

P.S They have highchairs which is great.

I was hesitant to give this place a try due to the reviews . It’s saving grace was the lovely sous chef Tan I believe his name is , he was out on the floor and doing a remarkable job . When seated the menu wasn’t explained but drinks and food was ordered and came out without a hitch apart from only one not two cocktails arriving but speedily rectified . The pork belly was delicious in flavour and quite tender ( pork crackle was not the stand out - bit dry ) , no hard boiled egg included like other pics I’ve seen of this dish but I felt weird to ask for it so did not . I would recommend for $40 this dish to include a third piece of pork belly .The asain greens were quite bland and consisted of pak choi and a few piece of Choi sum and garlic slithers at $15 ( very overpriced ) but was a fresh contrast to the rich soy sauce based pork.

The stand out for the night for me was the peanut and chilli dipping sauce for the rice paper roles . 2 serves $8 (spot on for value ) the chicken my fav, the salmon had a nice Smokey flavour.

The upstairs swinging seats where organised by Mr Tan and further drinks enjoyed up there.

Over all enjoyed our evening and will return .

Tip : we ate early (6:15 ) and the restaurant filled up very quickly so less things could go wrong we thought .
Total $125 Aprox :One main , two entree’s , one side , five beverages

Food was good but there’s some bad attitude in this place. Space was a little scarce and the service was abrupt and unpleasant. A few basic hospitality lessons wouldn’t go astray here. Overall; an average experience. Won’t return any time soon when there are so many other better options around.

Nice little local spot if you live around Hawthorn or Camberwell. Came here after trying some baos at the night noodle market in Melbourne. Was disappointed to find out they didn’t have any baos on the menu when we came for dinner. However the lamb main was nice but a little dry, the cocktails we got however where nice and refreshing. Would come back to try some more dishes

St Cloud is my go-to restaurant in the Hawthorn-Glenferrie area. I always bring my friends and family here when they ask for suggestions. The flavours and cocktails are always amazing.

Don’t leave without trying the Banh Khot!

Totally delightful. Service, suggestions, decor, cocktails, food presentation and quality. Felt happy to be there. Definitely be back with friends. Thanks 😀

Went back after 1year but didn't find it as good. The ingredients were fresh as usual buy we felt the heavy use of fish sauce gave us both an MSG reaction. Also the prices we felt were quite high compared with other restaurants who have are the same or better. But overall OK but not for the price.

Also service could improve. The either often leaned across the stairwell to try and lift plates which made me nervous that he would spill the sauces. They would definitely work on more personal and professional service.

Wouldn't recommend eating here if you value customer service. The food is good, but if the overall dining experience leave you with a bitter taste then perhaps it's not the best. I'm a coeliac and I can't eat gluten. I asked the waiter what I could eat and he assured me a meal was gluten free... turns out it wasn't. The restaurant did nothing for us despite the fact that they had just destroyed my intestinal lining ... we still payed full price for the meal, they appologised but I'll still be in agony for the night and sick for days to come. The very least they could do would be to take a meal off or offer a complimentary drink. It was overly obvious they did not care about the customer.

Thumbs up to kitchen head chef. Thank you for acknowledging us when leaving and smiling. To the women (holding clip board) on our arrival, if you are greeting customers then please smile and be friendly. I know it’s Hawthorn but a little more care with directing us (not just point and grunt) to our table would’ve been nice.

As for food, delicious. We spent over $400 for the group. Still think slightly over priced for Vietnamese food but could taste the love from the kitchen.

Glad we tried it once.

We had a late dinner here after a movie - I had been once before early on when it opened and had good memories of the place. This time around we shared a number of small plates - the pork wontons, sticky rice, turmeric and coconut pancakes and grilled chicken rice paper rolls - all of which were bursting with flavour. Design and atmosphere of the place was great and staff were pleasant and helpful.
Captain Tofu 💪🌱☘️🍀
Came here after my girlfriend recommended it. I thought it must be amazing since she would not shutup about how delicious the food was when she went last time.

She was not wrong. Food was out of this world. Very filling. Great value for money 💰

I really loved my meal at St Cloud. We started off with some rice paper rolls - chicken and then the tofu. Both came with delicious sauces, the chicken was my favourite with the tofu one being a little dry. Then for mains we shared the pumpkin dish and caramel pork belly. I absolutely loved both! Such a huge pumpkin fan, this dish was simple but really tasty! The pork belly was sticky and sweet and went really well with the pumpkin dish. For dessert we had their raspberry and chocolate dish was lovely and rich. Overall a great local modern Vietnamese restaurant with a cool atmosphere.

Have been here many times before but the most recent visit I felt it wasn't not up to previous standard. Service rather flippant and presumptuous. The current large share chicken dish was relatively low on flavour compared to a previous offering of the Sapa chicken.

Loved our late lunch here today. We started sharing the BBQ scallops and a St. Cloud Spritz each. We chose the 5 spice pork belly and Quang Nam chicken bowls for lunch. The food was delicious - could not fault it. Pork belly was tender, sweet and crispy on the skin. We sat downstairs inside, which is quite small but not cramped. On leaving we noticed what looked to be a much larger space upstairs with rooftop sunny spots. On a warm spring day it woul be lovely up there. Definitely glad we've found St Cloud, even more thrilled that they are on Uber Eats. Look forward to working our way through the menu over time.

It has been on my radar for a while. The service and staff were fabulous. The scallops and pumpkin were super tasty and flawless. Delicious Vietnamese food and those chicken wings are probably the best I had in a while. Great atmosphere. See you again

Came here a while ago without a booking on a Friday night and they did their best to accomodate my partner and I by putting us up on their upstairs bar bench. My partner ordered some kind of poor fish, I've forgotten now but it was super delicious and tender. I got some type of salad and I remember being happy with it. Would definitely come back to try more.

Oh my goodness, what is there NOT to love about St Cloud?? Amazing free range meat (for the carnivores), veggo options (for the vegetarians) and most of the menu is also vegan friendly (for vegans) so who isn't catered for???!!! I've been 2 and had the 'feed me' menu both times. It's SOOO filling and both times our dietary requirements were happily and easily accommodated. Thanks St Cloud, for delivering excellence time and time again!

Service was absolutely fantastic, they were so tentative to our needs. That was certainly a stand out.
Fantastic, tasty food and a large drink selection.

Had a very so-so experience at St. Cloud. I had ordered chicken rice paper rolls and a chicken curry, however the latter of which never came due to my waiter 'not putting the order through'. Quite frustrating as we had already asked where it was before being told that! My rice paper rolls were fine, nothing overly special. I tried my friends meals as well - caramel pork, sticky wings, sweet potato curry - again, nothing really made it particularly outstanding. A friend that came to dinner who wasn't well was offered a meal of eggs, rice and soy sauce (waiter said he usually ordered this for sick people)... $15 later?! It's a dish that quite literally would cost more than $2 for them to make. Wouldn't return to St. Cloud given this experience.

Wow, I used to like this place but went with a group of friends & there was some kind of melt down in the kitchen. No one seemed to care. It was one of the worst nights I have ever had at a restaurant anywhere on the world! At least the waiting staff recognized that they had not served several of the dishes that we had ordered some hours before & not received, and we didn't pay for them after walking through the bill meticulously. Lol

Have had this one on the list for a while and finally got to come here with a family birthday. To be honest I had read reviews last year and it sounded a bit hit and miss. However was pleasantly surprised with the food and service received. We shared a number of menu items, the standard outs for all where the scallops, the roast pumpkin, and chicken with sticky rice. I also had masterstock rice paper rolls which were lovely and fresh. Would definitely come back again.

If we lived or worked close by, we would enjoy St Cloud. Lovely staff, good vibe, roof top great in the summer, neat cocktails, it's innovative and there is some great food. However, personally, I would not travel to St Cloud. We love the lightness, freshness and subtle spice of Vietnamese. However, St Cloud is not light and with a number of dishes our taste buds were more focused on the spice than any other flavour. Given in our minds Vietnamese spice is subtle, this didn't work for us. The Beef Brisket and the Chilli Pumpkin were the big winners. Both very yummy. We also had Barbecued Scallop, Wok Gai Lan, Raw Salmon and Pork & Prawn Spring Rolls - none of which had anything above an average feel. We really didn't like the Wok Gai Lan - a big pile of chewy greens. At one point chilli-filled smoke came out of the kitchen and, with a number of patrons coughing, the staff were quick to turn the fans on. I think this is a bit of hard review on St Cloud, but there are just so many good restaurants in Melbourne, the bar is high.
Belinda
Good food, good atmosphere and good coconut water 😊 First time at St cloud and it made a good first impression. Would love to come back to try some of the other dishes. Busy but the meals came out really quickly and even though the do sittings they didn't push us out at a specific time. Thanks St Cloud ☁️😊

Another place that I have been wanting to come to and it didn't disappoint. Busy for a Monday night which is always a good sign and after dining I understand why. Had a range of things which was good, highlights for me was the pumpkin believe it or not... absolutely world class best I've had. Chicken wings with sticky rice were sensational as was the beef short rib. Service was very attentive. Would return and recommended for a modern take on Vietnamese dining.

This was my first visit and I was a big fan of the food! Was lucky to be in a group of 8 so tried most things. Everything was super tasty and lots of different great flavors! Chicken wings and scallops great starters, the pork belly was amazing and the short rib was so soft and tasty! The pumpkin was probably the best I have ever had! Service overall was pretty good as well. Will be back
Mrs_ox_qtn
Yummy Vietnamese food. Very rich! Originally thought it was quite expensive when it said the small plate only feeds one but quite easy feeds three for tapas. Definitely try the chicken wings! Good friendly service and great atmosphere.

I was lucky enough to have been invited to sample some of St Cloud Eating House's Dishes along with some fellow foodies and I was highly impressed by the quality and flavours of the food.

It's a fun atmosphere and great vibe with awesome food and drinks which match the surroundings beautifully. The food is super fresh and tasty, and I'm a sucker for any drink thats served to me in a coconut... the fact it was laden with alcohol and stamped with a cute restaurant stamp was an added bonus.

You can always tell if a place is good based on whether you would go back again, and the fact I went back two weeks later sure does say something.

Standout Dish - Chicken Wings & Caramel Pork Belly

I was invited to trek out to Hawthorn to check out this Vietnamese fusion restaurant and cocktail bar. The bar is set high for me as I'm Vietnamese by heritage. Overall this is a must visit if you're in Hawthorn and all locals should check this place out.

This place primarily focussed on Vietnamese and Asian fusion dishes. I suggest you start off with some great looking (+tasting) cocktails, then woof down some Vietnamese inspired dishes the pork belly and quail is a must get.

The cocktails are great and worth visiting this place for alone. I had the Ladyboi cocktail (Vodka, apple liqueur, peach liqueur, lemon, egg white, pomegranate syrup, apple fan) I love my cocktails on fruity and sour. Good food fantastic cocktails, why not.
When you first walk through the doors the smell of the food hits you straight away and you think yes! This is going to be good
The place is small but it is romantic, intimate , warm but also with an industrial upbeat vibe
The two cocktails we had ( lady boy and mohjito ) were tangy , fresh and delicious
Service is incredibly quick and the waiter helped recommend how many dishes to have
He also recommended the coconut turmeric pancakes as one of the starters and so would I ! Amazing
The second starter - smoked eggplant with fish floss and Nuoc Cham was a bit disappointing.. tasted a bit burnt and definitely needed something else to lift the dish
For main you have to try the caramel pork belly with rice , it's rich , full of flavour and melt in your mouth
The only negative I can say is that it is a little bit pricey for the size of the meals but in saying that it is the second time we have been and will go again but probably only on special occasions

Loved the food here we were a small group of 4. All tables were taken so must book ahead. Staff helpful and meals quick. Lots of choices in the menu. We shared dishes which there was plenty to go around. Had the caramel pork belly and Mekong curry both good! Casual pleasant atmosphere. Be back again.

Upbeat vibe, gives off the feel of a place you'll like to grab a few friends and have a few drinks and share funny stories over. Not quite the place for kids, definitely. Waiting time for BBQ curry fish was a fair bit longer than I expected. Not quite what I was expecting. While the fish was fresh, the curry flavour was either mild or absent, depending on the sensitivity of your palate. The tapas sized bites are pretty small, you can easily spend quite a bit on trying dishes out. Would probably not recommend the bang khot, spring rolls are decent but not amazing. Chicken wings were the best of the lot. Great service but would likely not return, unless it's just for casual drinks and a chat.

A local favourite that serves tasty food and refreshing drinks. St. Could does a modern takes on classic Vietnamese dishes such as bun (vermicelli salad), spring rolls, etc. My absolute favourite dish from St. Cloud has to be the chicken wings with caramelised fish sauce. tasty and juice chicken wings, with chewy and super crispy sticky rice. It was so good, my friends and I ordered more of this dish in one seating.
Gemma
We came here for a birthday dinner on a busy, summer night. Food and service were fantastic! My favourites were the chicken wings with sticky rice and caramel pork belly - so, so good! Will definitely be back.
Melbourne To Mouth
Loud graffiti and an industrial feel with low hanging, naked lightbulbs greet you at St Cloud, while the outside deck rooftop has been transformed into a tropical retreat. Classic cocktails and some newbies such as the fruity ‘Lady Boi’ and Brose with modern Asian twists are a must, as well as some of the awesome craft breweries they’re supporting.

Spring rolls, cold rolls and the hint of lemongrass all around remind you it’s still a Vietnamese restaurant, but there’s plenty of mod items to tickle your fancy. Chicken wings served with a fish sauce caramel, sticky rice, burnt onions and house pickles won this buffalo wing fan over to the Vietnamese style. Caramalised pork belly soft enough to soak up the kickin’ sauce laden with chili, black pepper and spring onion. The crackling included in this dish was a mini highlight in itself. Finish mains off with the roast chicken with ginger and spring onion relish, the sauces with this are some kind of wonderful.

A taster of two desserts including tropical panna cotta and their twist on an ice cream sandwich wrapped this meal up perfectly. Need lunch? In the style that DOES reflect most Vietnamese restaurants we know and love, they’ll have you in and out in a jiffy, but missing none of the flavour.

Full (and probably funnier...) review live on the blog now, link in bio :)

This place is amazing! They have entrees, mains, share plates (to serve 2, but really easily serving 3-4), and a range of desserts. The flavours of the mains in particular are amazing, my favourite dish was the pork belly. The cocktails are fun and delicious too- mine was served in a coconut!

One of the best meals I've had in Melbourne this past five years. Great value, lovely atmosphere, beautiful roof dining area, thoughtful design and brilliantly made food. Bright flavours and mixing of well-known with the new. But probably the best thing is the staff - consistently excellent, efficient and welcoming.

St Cloud Eating House has been on my 'to visit' list for awhile now and we finally dined here on a Saturday evening at 6pm (tip: reservations are recommended as it got quite busy). Parking was easily accessible in front of the restaurant on the street which is 1P before noon.

We were seated upstairs in the outdoor balcony area which had a retractable roof and three large fans to keep the area cool on a hot day (tip: ask for downstairs when booking if upstairs is inconvenient for you or anyone in the group). Our table was located along the raised garden beds which unfortunately was not the most comfortable given the leaves of the plants were drooping into the seated area (the leaf spent most of the time just resting on my head/back of my head).

Service was friendly and the staff all had lovely smiles, no request seemed too difficult for them.

The menu had a good selection of cocktails and the food had options for vegetarians, vegans and gluten free (hence why we chose to come here). We had six people and ordered three dishes off the 'smallish' menu and three off the 'large' menu and this was enough for us. Majority of the dishes had very familiar Vietnamese flavours with the Vietnamese mints and nuoc nam (fish sauce) but the execution was not necessarily traditional Vietnamese dishes; St Cloud Eating House has put its own twist on the dishes to make it modern Vietnamese.

The highlight was the chicken wings which provided a burst of flavour upon first bite with the super yum yum tofu getting a mixed review on our table (the mustard green was actually the pickled variety rather than fresh which gave the dish an interesting flavour). And if you're having the Mekong curry 2.0, order some rice to have with the sweet curry (we ordered one rice between two).

Dishes that make up this review (* marks the dishes I recommend):
- Lady boi; vodka, apple liqueur, peach liqueur, lemon, egg white, pomegranate syrup and an apple fan ($18)
- Off the specials menu: Pipis with Chinese doughnuts in a chilli sauce
- Chicken wings; fish sauce caramel served with sticky rice, burnt onions, house pickles and herbs ($15 for 4 pieces)*
- Banh khot; turmeric and coconut pancakes, spring onion oil, herbs, cos, nuoc nam ($20 for 12 pieces)*
- Caramel pork belly; soft egg, pickled chilli, spring onion, black pepper and crackling ($40)*
- Mekong curry 2.0; coconut, tomato, zucchini, daikon, eggplant, carrot and baby corn ($35)*
- Super yum yum tofu; caramel tofu, daikon, shiitake, carrot, mustard greens, chilli, pepper, faux crackling ($35)
- Vietnamese slaw; red and white cabbage, kohlrabi, pickled onion, herbs, fried shallots, nuoc nam ($15)*

Follow me on Instagram for more photos: @fo0die

I've been wanting to go here for some time but it wasn't as good as it could have been. It's probably my own fault for showing up on a Saturday night at 8pm and being seated outside. The staff were great to start with but about Half way through the meal they lost interest and we had to go inside to ask for more drinks and extra napkins. Even getting the bill was hard work. We ordered the banquet. The food was variable but overall good. We had delicious 5 spice chicken wings and crunchy fried rice cubes drowned with a very sweet sauce, nice spring rolls with an excellent selection of herbs, stodgy saffron pancakes- you can get much better on Victoria st, rich sweet pork belly with excellent crackling, and 2 ok salads. Desert was a very sweet pannacotta- but much of what we ate was too sweet for my palate. We also ordered a jug of some ginger beer based drink which was mostly ice and so got very watery in the heat outdoors.

Been here a couple of times. Both times were great. Service is friendly and helpful. Food is fresh, flavoursome and creatively presented. They have an amazing drinks menu - they make an incredible g&t with botanist gin and Viet garnish! Wow! Actually best in town in my experience! Bold statement and the extra 0.5 to the score ;)

This place has a great fit out! The service was excellent, They are kid friendly, The wings are amazing & We also had the pork belly which was spot on....

We've been here for both lunch and dinner now! Great variety over both menus, perfectly suited for a date night or casual lunch with mates. Their cocktail list is awesome and definitely can't go past the chicken wings. Buzzing place and for good reason

Had an absolutely awesome meal here on Monday night. The space is beautiful, staff are very helpful but not over intrusive, both food and drinks menus are perfect for a date night. We started off with chicken wings and rice paper rolls, followed by the pork belly and rice with peanuts. We skipped dessert otherwise we would of been rolling out of there! We will definitely be back.

This place is great.
Food is really good and super tasty modern Vietnamese.
Prices high but the ambience kicks heaps of goals especially for somewhat sleepy hawthorn. The place is buzzing.

We took a girlfriend out for her birthday tonight at St Cloud; we’ve been before for drinks on the rooftop and been happy with our experience. Balmy nights and girly catchups – what else could you want?

We’ve had friends recommend it to us too and saw it as a good choice for dinner. We got a table outside and ordered 3 Aperols, a Mekong curry, some rice paper rolls, the turmeric pancakes, steamed rice rolls and Vietnamese slaw salad.
My friend noticed what could have been a termites in her Aperol (with the amount of ants crawling on our table outside, we were concerned it could have been one that came through the rotting fence resting against our table). We asked the waitress about the floaties in her drink to which she agreed and said “Oh that does look weird, I’ll get you a new one”. She then came back 5 minutes later, with the same drink (now obviously watered down with all the handling) and said “Oh the bartenders said its just orange seed”. A little taken aback, my friend accepted her old drink back and prepared to potentially have termites in her tummy.

The $35 curry we ordered looked like it was made by a 10 year old. The chunks of carrot, zucchini and potato in the curry were absurdly large and the entire dining experience was flawed with tasteless food. The Vietnamese slaw salad looked like something you would get from a Coles fresh pack. You can imagine how embarrassing this is especially when you rave to someone about a place only to have it disappoint thoroughly – on her birthday.

I'm not even trying to exaggerate when I say nothing was good or worth mentioning. They had pretty wine glasses?

What probably took the cake is the way the young manager handled it. Perhaps this isn’t a position he is particularly invested in long term – however it really cemented how we felt about the customer service we experienced and our long-term patronage. Judging by the other reviews online (my fault for not doing my homework), this probably shouldn’t come as a surprise. He came over and opened with “What’s this about?” or something to that effect. When we told him how we felt, he took the half eaten curry away to “check with the chefs”. He then came back shortly with “The chefs haven’t changed the recipe or anything. What would you like us to do about it?”

It felt like he was absolutely not interested in our feedback, much less rectifying it. Putting your customers on the spot like that is absolute rubbish. I am very disappointed by my experience here especially with the overpriced food we didn't enjoy and will not be returning.

Upstairs lovely
Food very nice
Quick and friendly service
Kid friendly
I liked it
Buddha bowl lovely
Vietnamese slaw
Turmeric pancakes
Spring rolls chicken wings for kids

5 months later
Food not as good
Super yum yum tofu for $35 is a rip off with less than 50g (guess) tofu and very little vegetables for 2
Have tried 5 times and last night was the last
2 mushrooms (1each) was the clincher
Shame as I did really like it but apart from small servings (I'm not a huge eater either) the quality has gone south- pancakes tasteless and spring roll zero filling
Change of chef? Something has changed since my first visit in January

This sunny Sunday we happened to be driving around and it soon got to lunch time and we needed inspiration...I consulted my list of places I want to visit and we decided to try St Cloud in Hawthorn East. There were a few tables dining so it was pretty straightforward to get seated. The place is modern, casual and a little bit funky.

I've been meaning to try St Cloud for so long and finally did with a friend the other night.
Wonderful service - friendly staff which is always a big plus. We were seated straight away with no booking which is always great too!
We ordered the Kingfish cerviche for the entree and that was topped with a finely diced red onion, garlicky, coriander, vinegar-y sauce which went well.
The Pork Belly definitely needs rice or something neutral to couple it with as it was very very rich and thick. The pork was tender and just peeled off - cooked very very well. The slaw was a great light side to the pork and was refreshing against the heaviness of the pork sauce.
It was all great but perhaps a little overbearing for my taste buds. Everything was swimming in the sauce and very rich so I could not finish the meal so make sure you are up for a big meal!

Nice place but on the pricey side for an Asian fusion restaurant. The food was fresh and tasty but I would have expected more food for what you pay for. We had a booking after us so we felt rushed to eat quickly. I would recommend that the restaurant gives bookings a little longer given the time it takes for the food to hit the table

One of my new favourites! Lovely and informative staff, decor is on point and the food was delicious. Good serving sizes and packed full of flavour! I was expecting all these things after hearing great reviews from other people in hospo, so was pleased that they didn't disappoint. Extra props to our sassy waitress for laughing at my jokes and making my date think I'm hilarious. See you soon St Cloud.
