Review Sapa Hills - Hawthorn

Sophie Jones
Great service and great food. If you want a cheap and cheerful Vietnamese meal then come here. Pho and egg noodle soup is always good. Love market chicken was a new try this visit and was absolutely delicious.

Nice setting and atmosphere. Probably quite underrated for a Vietnamese restaurant. We were impressed with the variety and price points for food are very fair. We had the beef noodle soup which is as good and comparable to a lot of other niche beef noodle places. Happy to come back here to try the rest of the menu. Staff were very professional and friendly which is a statement compared to most Asian restaurants.

I am a Vietnamese and try a lot of restaurant in Melbourne but to be honest, Sapa hill in Hawthorn is not authentic and very disappointed quality. I ordered a grilled pork with rice which is ' Com Tam' and grilled chicken with rice as well and they were very poor quality with very thin slide of pork which is absolute not grilled. all the meal was not tasty but some pieces tasted very wierd.

Tasty authentic Vietnamese food reminded me of the home cooked meals. Nice service.

We decided to pick a random restaurant one night and went to Sapa Hills . Omg it was such a treat . The food was so good and we come back again for lunch 2 days later . Price is 4/5 very reasonable for the quality Service 5/5 very attentive Food 5/5 Delicious

Sapa Hills II's Bún chả [ɓǔn ca᷉ː] is absolutely deliciously. A very refreshing dish. Such a beautiful restaurant. Premises is always very clean and service is great. Highly recommended. Do drop in and say 'hello' to Jimmy, Grace, Tam & Sierra. You won't be disappointed. 4 July 2020 : Great to see that Sapa Hills II has remained open for business. As customers, we truly appreciate all restaurants and businesses that have persisted and has continued to operate during this difficult times.

Great place for regular quick, reliable Vietnamese food. Often order the Bun, Pho, Tomato Rice, Sping Rolls, Rice Paper Rolls and Beef wrapped with vine leaves, all very good. Great for families and groups.
Michael Nicolaci
Our meals were fresh , clean and delicious . Great place for groups

The food was great. We had a banquet for over 10 people. Very delicipus. Lots of yummy veges. Table service not so great. If you want a drink go to the bar yourself. Even so. Great food. Comfortable seating. Very friendly staff.

The vegetarian pancake, brilliant! As usual the complete meal, service, staff a delight to visit - thank you another enjoyable evening. ❤️

Yummy yummy yummy. Had crocodile - try it! Veggie rice rolls are yum too
Aileen Shuey
Yummy food and cheap. Good service as well. Thank you.

Really poor takeaway - looked like the chef had left and someone had quickly heated up the same pre cut veg in different dishes - to stuff a greasy, soggy pancake and in ‘caramelised eggplant and tofu’ which was mostly veg with no caramel sauce. Rice paper rolls were dry and arrived with no peanut sauce, spring rolls were also greasy, and so was the fried rice. The best dish was the coleslaw, which presumably had been preprepared but was mostly cabbage and showed no trace of any papaya as advertised .... I’ve had quite good food here some time ago, but after tonight I won’t be back. I felt ripped off.

The Vietnamese pancake is impressive and tasty. Quick and freshly cooked food. Friendly staff. Lovely alfresco area in the front for summer time. Great job! Good suburban restaurant.

Sapa Hills 2 continues to be very popular with the locals. I came here for dinner with a few friends and ordered dishes rather than the usual pho. Everything we had was delicious but serving sizes were slightly disappointing.

The banh xue was well put together but could have done with more fillings. The mixed vegetable dish was fresh and nicely seasoned. The scallop fish cake was quite unique. We also had fried chicken ribs which had a nice crunchy coating.

Will certainly be back again.

Previously:

Fast, furious, friendly, flavoursome, fantastic feasts. I have tried almost every dish here over the years and am yet to strike a mediocre one. The spring rolls, pho, Vietnamese coleslaw, broken rice, salt and pepper calamari and three coloured drink are particular favourites. It can get a bit loud in the restaurant, but I think that only speaks to the popularity of the place.

Highly recommend!

I've been coming to Sapa Hills 2 for some years and has been my neighborhood go to Vietnamese cuisine restaurant. However tonight's experience was dramatically different from all my previous experiences. The service was comparable to the past but the change in menu and the quality of food and portions have gone dramatically south. Sapa Hills 2 used to be good value Vietnamese. Tonight I felt ripped off. I don't think I can come back again. Such a shame. I suspect it's a management or ownership change.

LOVE Sapa Hills Hawthorn. Charcoal BBQ pork, chicken ribs, eggplant hot pot, lamb ribs, beef pho had silky hand made noodles, fried rice all superb. Relaxed but modern clean surrounds, prompt friendly service, very good value and excellent quality of food. We are regulars.

This place is one of the best Vietnamese upscale restaurants I can say we have in Melbourne.
Consistency in the taste of their food is their biggest quality. They cater to vegetarians too and are able to create their dishes without the use of oyster sauce n fish oil which is a big plus if you are a vegetarian. Their meat dishes are out of this world , the spicy sauce choices are perfectly seasoned and their cocktails are a great companion to the overall meal.
There is something on the menu for every one

Suitable for bigger groups too.

#mojolevel 5/5

The sliced beef pho is so delicious! It’s affordable ($12), substantial, and always fresh. It’s my go-to takeaway in Hawthorn, particularly during Winter when I want a nice warming and filling soup. It’s always really quick, pick up in 5-10 min from ordering.
Stephanie Mc Guinness
This place is exceptional! The reviews don't lie. Very diverse and extensive menu so a lot to choose from which always encourages you to come back. Quality is amazing, fast and very friendly service and well priced. The area is big so always seating and easy to find parking generally. Relaxed ambience and the owner is so lovely

Staff were polite and friendly. I had vermicelli rice noodle with chicken and vegetables. It was very nice . I have always had a nice meal frat Sappa Hills 2.

Not what I expected though :( While I was looking at the menu, the waiter came to me and impolitely turned my menu to the back and said all the popular dishes at the back. I was so disappointed but I still ordered Bun cha and tom yum soup. Bun cha was oily and the sauce was salty, the soup was fine.
Jonathon
Staff were polite and friendly when we entered . The service was quick . The chicken and egg noodle dish was very nice . Good value for money . Well worth a visit. I recommend it .

My favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne! The beef pho it's great and the tomato rice with fried beef is also great. Great place for a quick meal.

I have ordered take away a few times because Sapa Hills has the best authentic bún chả in Melbourne - the flavour is on par with what you would have in Hanoi. Nailed it. But takeaway also means at least a few of plastic container (guilty!), so I finally came in to eat. The restaurant has a nice feels and large seating area. I couldn’t help but getting bún chả again lol seriously everyone should try it. So good, if only they give more complimentary lettuce so I can finish the sauce. We also had green papaya coleslaw - nice flavour with the right punch, very refreshing entree - and the southern noodles hủ tiếu thập cẩm, of which my friend didn’t like the noodles saying it was not the right type. Given the restaurant name is Sapa Hills maybe they don’t specialize in Southern Vietnam cuisine.
***Note: If you are going to seat at outside area: due to the construction site next door it’s pretty dusty! Like true Vietnamese, we wiped the utensils and tableware ourselves, but I hope the restaurant will pay more attention to this.
Hân Trịnh
Service and setting are good. I had bún chả here, compared to most Vietnamese places in Melb, their bún chả is more authentic although the portion for meat was a bit too small. I may come back.
Lisa Giles
I’ve dined here and ordered take away, and the food never disappoints! Every dish is full of flavour and cooked really well. I love the rice vermicelli with pork and spring rolls, the beef in vine leaves and the rice paper rolls. But everything we order is always delicious! The staff are really friendly and the large space caters for big groups well. So glad this is one of our local Vietnamese restaurants!

Been here twice - compare to the Footscray sapa hill one this is way too behind- ordered soft shell crab it was soggy and smell fishy- fried rice too bad that i think i can cook better ...
Ashlee Coop
Accomodating staff, willing to tailor the banquet to vegans which is super lovely. Amazing food, prompt service- stand out was definitely the salt and pepper tofu. Highly recommend 🌱😊
Daz
Nice ambience, food is decent and well priced for the lunch crowd. Probably geared more towards the Aussie crowd but they also have interesting dishes for some wanting a little authenticity.
Sarita
Food is good and I keep coming back for it often for my lunches during the week, BUT the service is so cold!!
I hope you guys from Sapa Hills II read my review: can you please give a smile to your customers, for real, not a fake one, life is beautiful!
Also, please but some music and good vibes. Thanks
Melbourne, Let’s Eat
Came here for late lunch for some good quality Vietnamese dishes and they certainly deliver red. Ordered the banh xeo with pork and prawn, which is a Vietnamese savoury pancake and it definitely takes me home. We also ordered the flounder with tamarind sauce and it was also well cooked. Perfect crispness and tender fish. Will be coming back soon.

Awesome place if you have to try out the Vietnamese cuisine. Very mellow melody and just about perfect ambience for an afternoon lunch.

What I love about this place the most is the variety of chicken that one savour. The charcoal grilled chicken and stir fried chicken and tomato rice with a wide variety of chicken is amazing.

You could top it off with an moderate collection of vines or beverages and then you should be able to call it a “Perfect weekday work Lunch” yippees !!!

Keep up the great taste and looking forward for more tastebud experiments.
Saturday 28 October 2017 at 9.30pm.
A pleasant restaurant with attentive service.
The food was tasty 😋 and promptly served.
A decent place 👌🏻

Brunch with my mate of 18 years and her brood. Lets just make this clear, if you need a child friendly place-this one is for you. its not easy taking my own twin toddlers out for a meal at the moment. They just run a muck now. The kids corner is entertaining so much, we stayed for hours. parking no problem. Now to some yummy things. won tons steamed are great especially for toddlers. vermicelli noodle anthing was a hit with kids, aswell as fried rice and crispy spring rolls. I especially loved the viet salad with seafood and chicken vege dishes. Not sold on the duck with orange sauce. dessert - panacotta and banana fritters were a hit. the staff are accomodating friendly and love kids. Would go back for sure. Reasonably priced.

A comfortable restaurant to go with a lot of spaces. Staffs are attentive, the manager is also very friendly. Cheap price with outstanding quality food.
Came here after trying the original Sapa Hills in Footscray. What a change in restaurant with a large open dining room and a covered heated courtyard to boot. My favourite has always been the bun cha Hanoi as this dish isn't always featured at other Vietnamese restaurants. The grilled pork slices were just as delicious as I remembered, but unfortunately the Hanoi spring rolls were smaller and cut up into pieces, unlike the Footscray ones. Will definitely still return to try more of the extensive menu!

With the Footscray Sapa Hills being one of our favourites, this was a real disappointment, both in food and service, even down to the Chili Sauce and Oil being bland. Squid was tough and Chicken XO oily and bland.

(Tuesday 8/7/2017)

This place serves Vietnamese food with class!

Came here by our good friend’s recommendation.

She helped us ordered the foods: i) Obama’s Crab Cake ii) Steamed Wontons iii) Grilled Beef in Vine Leaves iv) Sapa Hills Special Spring Rolls v) Spring rolls vi) Rice Vermicelli with Charcoal Pork Belly vii) Custard Apple drink

We all enjoyed the food and drinks, except the Obama’s Crab Cake, it was only average. The house made fish sauce goes well with all the starters especially the grilled beef in vine leaves. The ultimate winner for the night was the Rice Vermicelli with Charcoal Prok Belly, words can’t describe how delicate the dish was. The flavour was so impactful and made us crave for more. The fresh raw vegetables leaves go so well with the Smokey grilled pork and fish sauce broth.

The service was great and staffs were friendly. Price was affordable and worth it.

Will come back for more.

Owner is simply awesome...! Service is flawless in the packed restaurant when he is around..little slow when he is not..! Food is consistently good and never disappointed .. keep up the great work guys

Lily and Danielle's reviews might be on to something here. Sapa Hills Hawthorn has gone from one of our favourites to a place we are more likely to avoid... a change of management perhaps. The food is not as good as as it was a few months ago; some changes in ingredient (is capsicum really an ingredient of choice in Vietnam?). Tiny dessert portions. Staff were running (literally) between the kitchen and dining room; very unsafe for them and the diners. Someone, apparently a 'runner' from the kitchen, quite rude on arrival at our table. The new charge of $7:00 per bottle BYO isn't written anywhere, isn't mentioned when you open the bottle... just added to the bill at the end. Some places do this but they actually provide some degree of wine service with it and a fresh glass for each bottle. They also write it in the menu and tell you about it. On our last visit most people were ordering Pho, not the three courses we went for, and are unlikely to be looking for again.

Tasty and reliable grilled chicken rice paper rolls. Comes with some kind of dipping sauce. Pleasant customer service :) Will be back!

140 characters

The seafood here was awesome. Try the grilled oysters and the crocodile fillet. We also had a grilled Barramundi but it was bland. Strongly recommended.

A good place to go for Vietnamese dishes. Their broken rice is especially good. Large, clean and spacious environment. Clean toilets. Good service

Verdict: Vietnamese spinel
Edgar Darmawan
Decent food but nothing spectacular. Pho was okay, but definitely have had better. Vietnamese pancakes also just okay. Tried the crocodile here also which was okay but a little too peppery. Quite pricey also. Service was good though.
Lily
Used to be amazing authentic Vietnamese food but I think there has been a change of management because the quality has really declined, while the prices have increased! The last two times i visited sapa hills 2 for dinner (earlier this year) and ordered my usual beef pho, I was left with a headache both times! I think they add MSG to their stock now... horrible!
Leigh
Very disappointed with what we had last night. Tomyum soup was too bland. Plain rice was too hard. We couldn't barely enjoy anything at all. Pretty sure not coming back.
Pinch Of Bacon
This was amazing Vietnamese food. We loved it!!!!!!!!! Every dish was packed full of flavour! Absolutely wonderful! Well worth a visit and be sure to make a reservation

I had the eggplant and vegetable clay pot and steamed rice because I love eggplant. Enough tofu and mushrooms but needed more greens or chinese cabbage. Delicious but extra chili sauce and soya sauce was needed for my tastebuds. Patio area was quite well heated as it was a cold day and was surprised it was comfortable.

This restaurant has nice food and service, not the best vietnamese food in melbourne i have tried so far. But its a good place to go for vietnamese cuisine in hawthorn

I've been here a couple of times and had the bun cha and it's just like the ones in Hanoi except spicy. I'm so happy to finally find a restaurant in Melbourne that sells bun cha because it's my favorite Vietnamese dish. I went here last night with my family for my bday dinner. We ordered the banquet and a bun cha. All the food was nice especially the bun cha, the fried rice and the orange duck. Service was slow between entrees and mains and when my Dad enquired the staff were a bit rude after that. They also forgot about my wine. Other then that it's a really good place and I'd come back and try the crocodile in XO sauce. They also have a kids corner which is good for my niece.

4/4/2017
I went here tonight with family for my Mum's birthday. We got the same banquet as before. Most of the food was still nice but the orange duck wasn't so great, it was tiny pieces and I didn't like the flavour so much. The Hanoi style spring rolls were amazing, much better than the ones at Hanoi Hannah. I don't think I'll get desserts from here again, I ordered the coconut and banana cake but it wasn't a cake it was made of rice and it was very filling but not so tasty. I think next time we'll order off the menu instead of getting the banquet. It was a Tuesday night so there weren't so many people in the restaurant, this meant that service was more efficient. I'll probably come back soon for the bun Cha and to try other Hanoi style dishes.

Delicious and fresh authentic flavors, we had a large group which was handled well by the staff, and all our food tasted great, would definitely recommend

Went there for dinner tonight. There were 4 of us. We were attended to as soon as we stepped in. Staff in Sapa Hill II was very friendly and attentive. Ambiance of the restaurant was modern and clean. Food was delicious!! Grilled beef wrapped with vine leaves, papaya salad with beef, prawns coated with salted egg yolk and sapa hill's charcoal pork belly were amazingly delicious. We also had the rice paper rolls which wasn't the best we ever had and the crocodile fillet with xo sauce...not bad but not amazing either...the crocs was a bit tough. Overall, highly recommended
Big Eyes For A Big Tummy
A nice space and more comfortable than a lot of other Viet restaurants. Pity it was overall average.

I had pho with beef balls, tripe and sliced beef - tasted good and happy with the texture of the tripe as some places can overcook it and end up being too soft. Tight with the Viet herbs. So used to getting a plateful of it. Getting a few leaves of mint and basil with my pho just doesn't seem right...

Spring rolls were tasty but they are so tight with the lettuce and garnish. I guess they expected us to wrap 3-4 spring rolls in the one lettuce leaf. 🤔

Forget about the stuffed chicken wings. I don't believe the menu described it as fried - it was oily and just...yuck. Tried to peel off the batter but my chopsticks and fingers were just smothered with oil.

Grilled pork and vermicelli - pork oily and chewy. Vermicelli overcooked and soggy. Sauce for it tad too sweet.

$5 juices are good value and you even get to choose your own combo which I liked. My partner had a fruit smoothy but not sure if it was that that made him feel sick afterwards or the grilled pork dish.

Service - ok, as would general expect from a casual Asian restaurant. Efficient in cleaning up plates. However, when asked for the bill and when no one came to collect our money, we went up to the counter. Male staff barely made eye contact, just continued to make conversation with female staff on the side. Took a break from his conversation to realise we were still standing there to wait for a receipt. Handed over receipt whilst looking away again to continue conversation with staff - had scored a 3 for average but remembering that attitude pushes it down to a 2.5 sorry.

DO: The broken rice pork chop combination or red tomato rice with chicken.

DON'T: Forget the stuffed chicken wings

TIP: You won't find a better Vietnamese Iced Coffee in Hawthorn. Make sure you order it.
Charlie Daniels (Curious Charlie)
Prawn, lettuce, mint and vermicelli, served with a watered down chili satay sauce. Too much vermicelli and not enough filling, they needed more like cucumber sticks and marinated carrot. Also a less watery pb/hoisin dip. Rice Vermicelli with Spring Rolls $10. Bio guy had pork spring rolls with vermicelli. Top layer of topping, the rest was vermicelli. He doused everything with two containers of chili fish sauce, so there wasn't anything else but that taste. My friends other than jas have no interest in food *sigh*. The small crispy spring rolls were quite good though there wasn't enough for a bowl of vermicelli. It was enough for a third of the bowl.
Sylvia's POV
Really classy-looking restaurant with nice interior décor and decent tasting food at reasonable prices. Getting service was difficult as there was only two floor staff working during lunchtime. Other than that, would definitely return.

Great Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne

Being a Vietnamese I reckon that pretty much all of Vietnamese restaurants more or less are missing something to actually be able to recreate the genuine tastes and flavours. With that being said, Sapa Hills 2 is actually my second favourite Vietnamese restaurant here in Melbourne with No 1 belongs to Hoa Tran. Anyhow the food quality is close to the same ones in Vietnam with milder taste which by all mean is fine. Love the Rice dish with Chargrilled Porks there and also the Hanoi Vermicelli Noodles. Coffe was so-so though. And price is reasonable enough if you're in a bind and still want tasty foods. Staffs were friendly enough but I found it odd that sometimes there was no one around to ask for stuffs or even to pay your bill.

Overall it's a solid 4.5 out of 5 experience for me. Definitely will come back in the future.

Let there be pancakes! The seafood Vietnamese pancake was delicious and a new addition to the menu. Haven't been here for awhile so great to see the dishes are still tasty and generous. Spacious setting to enjoy a meal with friends.
Penguineats
The pho was huge. Not only was it in a huge bowl, within was loads of noodles and an abundance of beef, chicken and beef balls. There was also a generous amount of bean sprouts accompanying this huge bowl. Noodles were silky smooth and cooked to just the right softness.
The beef and chicken were tender and flavourful. The broth was steaming hot, rich and full of flavour which made it perfect for cooking the bean sprouts. This was absolutely spot on in every way.

Admittedly I often find pho a tad underwhelming. However on this occasion, the ingredients, cooking and flavour were absolutely on point. At this price point, this pho simply can’t be beaten.
Foodlover12
Pretty average overall
Rice paper rolls I didn't like at all, the dipping sauce provided was weird tasting.
Husband didn't mind the pho
Service good to start with then it was non existent
Go back - sorry but no

Congratulations Tam a great restaurant. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff were very friendly this made for a very enjoyable evening. The chef selections were terrific and served very well. The other meals we ordered were just as good. We have eaten in many Vietnamese restaurants but this is 10/10.
Cost was very reasonable for the amount we ate. We certainly will promote Sapa Hills to our friends.
Guzzling
Beautiful restaurant with modern decorations and elegant interior designs. However, the staff who greeted us was a little cold and seemed rushed even though it wasn't busy yet. I ordered the bun bo hue which was pretty average but included a large portion of meat. As we went to pay though, we were informed that each of our dishes had an extra $1 charge as the price in the menu was for lunch and dinner cost more. Would have been nice for the waiter to tell us before we ordered so at least we weren't blindsided... Nice place for special occasions but might stick to Vietstar up the road with their honest prices.
Celine
Went to there for dinner alone! After spent hours on my final thesis, really need Sth warm with soup. Then, decided to come to sapa hills for a quick dinner for pho! I love their place! But felt really sorry for dropped my carrot & celery juice on their floor! ahh, it's carpet! So sorry for that, and finish pho at very short time. Cannot give them a lower score for what I have done!
Mrs Mark
Standard Vietnamese fare. We had the rice paper rolls with chicken which were tasty but by no means exceptional. The san choi bao with meat were okay. Has a good area to entertain kids with toys etc. There's better Vietnamese food available in Hawthorn.
Sohil Kakadia
Nice ambience, good taste 👅 and very cooperative staff, also veg options are there..........................................................
Luke And Hannah
Nice spacious restaurant and that's the highlight of this place. We have been here three times ordering most of their vermicelli dishes, as they're their signature. However, the food here at this branch was only 2/3 as good as their original branch at Footscray. These vermicelli though served generously, lacked taste and any wow factor. I'd recommend Tho Tho in Richmond, Indochine in Box Hill or their original store in Footscray.
Hungry Hippo
A very spacious place to bring a group to. Nice decor and friendly staff. Has been one of my favourite places for lunch as they used to have quality Vietnamese food at good prices (they have jacked up their prices this year which is a bummer).
Abishek Paliwal
What a delightful place. Heaps and heaps of options and even vegetarians can have lots of great food choices. Eggplant, Tofu or Broccoli everything prepared in superb manner.
Service is good and so is ambience.
A must visit place.
SK
Very tasty food all up, especially the tofu in the clay pot and the beef in the beef salad. Service could be improved in terms of wait-staff's ability to explain what was in some dishes and drinks, however all up a good meal and worth returning again some time
PS
I ordered the signature dish but was underwhelmed. Others had decent comments about their dishes. The wontons were good too. Give it a shot if you are in he neighborhood.
Richard Crighton
Unfortunately we were not too impressed with this place. The food was not Vietnamese style but more sludgy Chinese. We had two dishes that had that shiny syrupy glaze to them typical of westernised Chinese food. Vietnamese is meant to be fresh and vibrant.
A Black Sheep
We are regulars to this place. Compared to the other Vietnamese restaurants down Glenferrie Road, this one looks more appealing and with more comfortable seating. Foods are a tad more expensive than the other one, but reasonably priced. The place is clean and tidy. Food are of good flavour. I like their Pho and spring rolls.
FOOD TRIP
Hungry after an evening event with Zomato, we decided to pop in here for some quick pho. Wasn't really impressed with the service or the food. Drinks were almost a fail. Probably wouldn't come back. Three Colour Drink $4. Not sweet enough and also in an awkward glass that bulges out around the top. How can I scoop out any goodies up with this weird glass? 3/10
James P
Came here last Thursday and had the beef pho - I've never been a massive fan of pho but this experience may have swayed me a little. The prawn spring rolls were to die for. Very generous serves and great clean service.
The Food Oracle
A busy and loud restaurant serving authentic Vietnamese. After visiting Hanoi we were keen to recreate the delicious bun cha experience back home.
Between the three of us we ordered who of the vermicelli and grilled pork and one plate of spring rolls. Everything came out pretty quick and the taste was pretty spot on. Lots of fresh greens, soft rice noodles, tasty charred meat in a light fishy sauce with green papaya. I did ask for garlic and chilli and the side, this was forgotten but forgiveable. I wish the sauces were warm so that the meat would have been hot instead of Luke warm, but that is just how it served... I had the same complaint while in Vietnam. The spring rolls were lovely and crispy with that bubbly wrapper.

We were so impressed, we stayed for dessert - sticky date pud for $6? We got dessert too and it was not good....but I mean it was $6. Sticky date was a slice of date cake, no sticky! And a slab of that cheap ice cream that usually comes wrapped in paper.

So go for the bun Cha but go elsewhere for dessert.

This one just like their other one in Footscray, the no2. serves top Vietnamese food.Being next to my squash courts, I've lost count to the number of times I've eaten here and have never been disappointed.
Chocolatelily1962
Fresh and delicious. Six of us ate here for dinner and it was a great night. Lovely, attentive staff and very fresh, healthy food. $70 per couple including entree, main, beers and wine corkage. Very good value for the high quality of food presented.

This used to be one of my ‘go to’ places for lunch at my previous work. I’ve been back a few times since I have left my previous job and it has always been the same! As awesome as I remember it to be. Sapa Hills II is a nice, clean Vietnamese restaurant situated in Glenferrie. I have tried a few different dishes here. The spring rolls, rice paper rolls, the rice vermicelli dishes and some of the soup dishes as well. Here in this picture is the Rice Vermicelli with Hanoi style Grilled Pork. I’ve only tried this dish twice here but the first time I gave it a go, OMG it was so good! The flavour in the pork and the sauce is magical! Mixing that with the vermicelli noodles and the greens is a perfect combination! Definitely worth a try! I have to say I am sad that I don’t get to go to this place more often now but when I do, nothing has changed and I love it!
De-brief Me
Despite loading this little number up with as much bean sprouts, mint, lemon juice & chilli as I could, the broth was still lacking in complexity. However, it seemed only a small matter in the setting of a beautiful restaurant with spacious seating, good ventilation & fantastic company :)
Feeling Peachy
Great value in hawthorn. Great value for this part of town. Eat lunch for $15. Food is excellent but be warned, they don't really get gluten free, some dishes advertised GF aren't such as Pho soup. You need to grill the staff to get the real GF options.
Eric Bluer
Slow service, forgot my order, tried to communicate with me through glass door instead of coming to my table to know if everything's ok (what?! Yes, that's true. That was when I try to get their attention to ask about my forgotten dish).

Chef's specials were boring, unimpressing and the price was over.

Bad.

What a delightful surprise. Recently I was invited by friends in Hawthorn to have lunch at Sapa Hills II- a 'Vietnamese' restaurant in Hawthorn. Having enjoyed Vietnamese food at Vinh Ky in Richmond and Saigon Pho in Nicholson St. Footscray amongst others, I was prepared for a let down BUT was I surprised!!
My first lunch and then subsequent lunches and take-away from here have been most satisfying. Their Vietnamese soups are good as are their Chinese/Malaysian noodle dishes (something that I used to miss at Vinh Ky and Saigon Pho).
But what is even more pleasing was their reasonable prices and great service.
Tam ( the manager when I was there- I hope that I have his name spelt right) .was friendly and very efficient. I noticed that he did have to keep an eye on some of the other new staff that looked like they would slack off but Tam and the other senior staff gave us excellent service.
I will be going back I like Sapa Hills II and hope that they do a good deep fried flounder with chilli & rock salt.
Thank you Tam.
Bigem, Ivanhoe.

Best Hanoi style food in Melbourne. Highly recommended: Well marinated grilled pork, rice vermicelli with dipping fish sauce + fresh Vietnamese herbs - bún chả Hanoi. Board rice noodle stir fried with beef, garlic, tomatoes, flat leaf parsley, onion, cracked pepper & bok choy - phở xào Hanoi. Turmeric marinated fish grilled with onion, dill, spring onion, served with rice vermicelli, roasted peanuts & 2 choices of dipping sauce - chả cá Lã Vọng. The closet Hanoi style restaurant in Melbourne.

Terrible. Don't bother!. Meat was that rubbery chicken and beef they use in cheap Chinese takeaway. garlic flavour was overbearing. we had lemongrass and Chilli beef and cashew chicken. just awful. The only upside was the sapa special spring rolls, though the dipping sauce lacked flavour.

Always great. Always great Vietnamese food, combined with really friendly and very prompt service. You never have to wait before water is brought to the table and your drink order taken & ice buckets always delivered promptly when you take a bottle of wine. Very accommodating of families. It's our regular stop, as well as when we have visitors for a night out.
Try the Vietnamese coleslaw and the salt & pepper chicken ribs. But then again don't skip the sizzling pepper beef.

First timers and very happy with it. We had never had Vietnamese before and the waiter was very helpful, suggesting what we should try. We ordered accordingly and were very pleased with the outcome. The food was good, the service was good and the price was reasonable - Thumbs up Sapa Hills II.

The food was good, but service poor.. When I rang to make the booking I was told the corkage was $4 a bottle. Seven of us attended on 5th September. A waiter started to take our orders, then a waitress took over. Our entrees arrived except for two. We had finished our entrees when theirs finally arrived ! We waited a long time before six main courses arrived and once again they'd nearly finished by the time the other main course arrived. We complained to management who didn't charge us for the late main course, but when we got the bill the corkage was $1.50 per person, and not $4 a bottle.
The food was good, but the service was poor. The staff were pleasant and worked hard, but need to be better trained.

This Vietnamese restaurant is a local treasure. It serves the best Pho in Melbourne. If you enjoy fresh, healthily and traditional cuisine then you'll love the Sapa experience. The staff are super friendly (all from northern Vietnam) and the meals are presented perfectly. I recommend the beef Pho, pork spring rolls, chicken coleslaw and a glass of traditional iced coffee. You'll love the experience!
Excitable Tastebuds
Not convinced. I agreed to try Sapa Hills after discovering Viet Star was closed on Sundays (oh no!!!); we ordered the traditional Pho at around 7:15pm and were informed 10 minutes later that they had run out of the traditional noodles (no biggie, we were happy with different noodles). Upon serving there we were told they also run out of bean sprouts and we were supplied with a small branch of Thai Basil plus the usual lemon and chilli. None of this bothered me until we went to pay the bill and were charged the full amount, which included a $2 surcharge for having Pho at dinner time?!? Service was slow, soup was tepid and needless to say the Pho wasn't Pho.

Absolutley disgusting. We ordered over the phone via the website. Each dish we ordered was at least 1-3 dollars over the price on the website. We got the salt n pepper squid, honey chicken, vegetable spring rolls and steamed rice for 2. Literally everything was bin worthy. Complete rip off and disgusting food. Squid was soggy, spring rolls were starchy and also soggy, chicken was very average too although better then the other dishes but I would not order again. The rice cost $6 for a 3/4 full container. I will never come back here again. The worst meal I've had all year. 0/10

Very good restaurant

Enjoyable Experience. I really enjoyed my experience here. The restaurant itself is very nice, and the staff were polite and pleasant. The Special Spring Rolls were delicious, my main was nice but pretty standard, I wouldn't say it stood out as the I've ever had. All up though I had a good time and enjoyed my food, I would come back.

Sapahills2 is the best Vietnamese restaurant on Glenferrie rd Hawthorn.i always go thee with my family at the weekend

Not good. We had dinner at Sapa Hills Hawthorn and I have to say were extremely disappointed. The food was tasteless and full of MSG. Not one of the dishes had flavour - they all just melded into each other. There is no way we would go back.
Da_fat_wombat
A trying restaurant. When you walk in the place looks great, and we had high expectations. We are lovers of Vietnamese food and were looking forward to some quality food. The waiters were dressed sloppy with baggy jeans ans runners, to start. Did not match the look of the restaurant. When the food came out, it was not to the standard we expected. The pork spring rolls were missing flavour and the crunch/crispyness. We ordered rare beef Pho'. Worst i have ever tried. It came with meat balls, which i did not ask for, and when i took them out, i was left with 3 50c sized pieces of the beef. I was also given just a regular dinner spoon, which is impossible to eat soup with. When i asked for a soup spoon/larger spoon, the girl didn't seem to understand why i was asking for one. Only ate about a quarter of it, as it wasn't greatly flavoursome and after 3 spoonfulls, all the meat was gone. Will not return. Do yourself a favour and go to a little family owned Vietnamese restaurant hidden up an alleyway if you want some flavour.

Awesome food... great family business... 9/10

Okay. Pretty average Vietnamese compared to most options on relatively nearby Victoria St. Very friendly staff, although often slightly slow and somewhat forgetful. Some dishes like the rare beef vietnamese coleslaw are pretty good and the Pho is ok. However, most others are a bit bland.

All up, a great place for a cheap meal if you're a middle-aged, white Hawthorn dweller ;)
Clint_underwood00
We loved it!. Had a quick dinner with my friends here and advised the staff if they can send out the dishes as soon as possible. They actually did after a few minutes without compromising the quality of the food! All of my friends have agreed that it was one of the best Vietnamese restaurant as recommended by my vietnamese friend! Prices are very affordable and the ambience is great! Will definetely come back here soon!
Maryo
Very reasonably priced. A stylish restaurant in Hawthorn with Box Hill prices. I am always happy with their soups and Vietnamese coleslaw. The Sapa rolls are a must too. Tam knows what he is doing.
Vanessa Sette
The most delicious food in Melbourne! Unbelievably amazing service, stunning environment. The staff were one of the most friendliest groups I have ever met. Highly recommend Sapa Hills II !! I will be visiting this restaurant on a regular basis.

Favorite vietnamese. Great food at affordable price. Nice atmosphere and good service

Such great service, affordable food and great environment! A must go!

Salty messy food not worth going back. I was very surprised Dinner for 8 people, the mains were salty and tasteless. Lemon grass pork was tough. Satay prawn was cover in gravy. Servings were small. The place was noisy. Only face saving grace was there service. Every thing we asked for was no trouble. It used to be good, I think the standard has dropped a lot.
TheEnforcer
Simply fantastic venue. Had dinner as part of a large party of 60+ people and really enjoyed the service, food and ambience. Highly recommended.
Pinao
Was invited for a night out with friends to sapa hills 2 and even though we had never tried Vietnamese food before we couldn't wait to try it. The quality of food was fantastic with very reasonable pricing. The salt and pepper squid was to die for especially accompanied with a good glass of red. The only mishap was that they finish up 10 pm and we missed out on desert. Highly recommended.
Decentfeed
Barely passable for lunch not worth it for dinner. When you order Pho they give you a tiny piece of lemon and I've had to ask for the sauces every single time. The grilled pork chop in the pork chop rice is on the smaller side. After 5pm the "lunch menu" items including Pho and the usual viet meals has a $2.00 surcharge. How they justify this is beyond me. Plain greed really.
Lily
My favourite local Vietnamese when I can't be bothered driving to Victoria st.
Jgordon
Delicious. Loved the spring rolls and bun cha. Will definitely be back.
Jay Valentinja-Fran
Service is great here. Quick and easy. The beef noodles soup is average. But you must try the pepper and salt fried egg plant. It melts in your mouth. So good!
KewMeister
I'm a fan. Please forgive the rave but this is possibly the best Vietnamese restaurant in the eastern suburbs. Fast friendly service with quality fresh meals delivered to your table. The restaurant is often full so bookings in the evening are recommended. I almost feel guilty not going back to my regular haunts in Victoria street but located in Glenferrie rd, Hawthorn this would have to be my favourite asian restaurant at present.
Croppers
Average food. Not a great atmosphere - there is something wrong with the acoustics as the restaurant is unbelievably loud when busy. Go to Richmond for better Vietnamese food.
Chanos
My parents and sister really like it but i'm not a fan. To be honest, this restaurant doesn't have that restaurant tang. It is more catered towards australians rather than traditional vietnamese. maybe it's because i'm not a fan of vietnamese cuisine myself but it didn't give me a good time. soft shell crab is good. the spring rolls are a must, the other stuff (the fish, sizzling pork) were a bit ok but it didn't have that exciting flavour. it was a mediocre to be honest but overall this restaurant is ok. my sister and parents really like it and go back with me but if it were up to me i wouldn't come back here. i like places like taiwan cafe and aunties dumplings. also two birds one stone is good
Courtney Anne
Consistent! Have been here with family and friends they know how to make someone feel special on their birthday and they know how to make you feel comfortable in the restaurant. On top of that, the food tastes fresh and has lots of flavour!
Minny
Not too bad. The food is very authentic from the northern part of Vietnam, however I still prefer the humble Thanh Ha on Victoria street.

Fawlty Towers 2.0. I’ll make an introductory note stating I’ve dined at Sapa Hills II several times, always on Saturday evenings and as part of a large group.

While the food is decent (obviously pricier than anything you’ll find on Victoria Street in Richmond but you’re paying for location), what really irritates me about Sapa Hills is the nonsensical service.

I understand that 8pm on a Saturday night is peak time, and that trying to keep track of orders for a group of about 20 is a challenge. That said, it’s ridiculous when waiters pop out from the kitchen with a dish, speak in voices barely above a whisper and then stand stock still at the end of a (rather long) table so that half the table don’t even know they’re standing there.

We’re given about a minute to try and work out a) what he said and b) who ordered the dish. If you haven’t heard/noticed in that time, too bad. The waiter darts back to the kitchen, still carrying the dish and with no attempt to deliver it to its rightful place.

We were told we’d have to receive our entrees with our mains “because it’s too hard to bring things out” (The whole point of entrees is that they tide you over until mains arrive!). We agreed, but we shouldn’t have bothered – half the mains arrived at least 15 minutes before entrees showed up.
From there, it was utter chaos – I couldn’t help but compare it to a scene from Fawlty Towers. Wrong dishes, dishes arriving that were meant for other tables, waiters forgetting what they were carrying and delivering meat dishes to vegetarians or just giving up and plonking them anywhere they could, and mystery glasses of wine appearing that were never ordered.

Meanwhile, things we *actually* ordered never appeared! Mains served without *any* rice on the table (a 15 minute wait, by which time food had started going cold), glasses of soft drink taking 20 minutes to show up and only after repeatedly checking with waitstaff.

Dinner shouldn’t’ turn into a circus – stressful, awkward and a real dampner on an evening out.

There are many other options in the area that I’d visit before ever going back to Sapa Hills II.
Felicity Ho
Really nice vermicelli with grilled pork and yummy satay too! Lunch is definitely better than dinner there.

We will definitely be back!!!!. We had dinner at Sapa Hills II last night and had a very enjoyable experience. We were lucky to have a SHOP A DOCKET coupon and was rewarded with a free main meal with our group of 4. The meal was divine and plenty of it, staff were very friendly and the restaurant has pleasant atmosphere.
Will definitely be back!!!!

Great find among many restaurants in the area. Went here with about 15 people, got a combined seat on the balcony during the evening. Wonderful evening, surprisingly pleasantly quiet, good service from staff. I had the Mongolian beef which was very good, but my mate had this amazing pork dish, sizzling pork with black pepper sauce which I HIGHLY recommend! Definitely going back here again
Chau Thai
Beautiful beef noodle

Mrs Liane Lee. Don't go there! They do not honour their dicount vouchers. Just had lunch there and they insisted that lunch was not a main meal and that anyway we had to have a table of 4 to get one for one free.
IThe voucher clearly stated that it was one for one but only one voucher per table of 4 could be used.
They are not unpleasant and the surrounding are good but the food is average and their understanding of english is, understandably, not too good.
Lucy Mackenzie Worters
Best pho I've had in Melbourne. Super cheap, massive serves, decent service. Never had a disappointing meal!
Wendy
Never go there again!. Terrrible service - have no courtesy what so ever with kids/family.
1) We dined there on a Sat night with 2 toddlers (2yo). We got told off by a waiter who asked us to keep the noise down which I considered to be very rude and inappropriate!! The kids were making some noise but I wouldnt consider to be excessive. I can understand if it is a fine dining resturant but it claims itself to be a family resturant. And noise level is definitely quite high with lots of people dining.
2) We ordered 2 entrees for the kids and they actually charged us $2 each kids for the rice - they can hardly consume any of the rice!!

Will not go back again.
Martinkim7
Coming back for more. I went here numerous time for dinner and while the food was good, most of the food were not really to my taste.
But why did I go back again and again?
1) I know guys don't prefer salads but Vietnamese salads they sell is definitely a winner
2) If you go on dinner times during weekend, my dining partner tells me they are good looking...
Love A Chardy
Love it! Really high quality food professional service great atmosphere. Fair enough prices. Thoroughly enjoyed it, second time here was just as good as the first time, definitely recommend .

Excellent Food. Absolutely love this place, the food, service and the friendliness of the owner is beyond words.
We have taken nearly all our friends and family and they are of the same opinion.
Its a must - try it for yourselves.

Sensational food and service. Clean fresh tasty. Great for families. You would be very lucky to find better outside of Vietnam.

We had dinner there last night and had excellent service from a guy who really knew his stuff.
Chef's signature dish: Beef with pepper which came out on a sizzling plate. This dish was incredible hence my title "Bursting with Flavour" - truly beautiful fresh tantalizing dish. My 8 year old loved the sauce.

The 6 year old had Vermicelli with Spring Rolls which was great for a child but the portion was massive - kind of need smaller dishes for children.

We also had black bean beef but this is a common dish as well as the authentic Viet spring rolls which were incredible. Many other dishes we tried too - yes we went overboard but well worth it!

Overall it was a wonderful dining experience for the family and the children could also draw nearby. Great fresh food, atmosphere and service. We'll be going again but this time with friends as well!

Fast dinner service and the food is tasty. New Vietnamese restaurant on Glenferrie Road, right next to the tram stop near Burnley Road.

The restaurant was only half full when we went. Which I liked - since most of the established restaurants on Glenferrie Road are noisy and crowded.

We were served quickly. (But not rushed... Our waiter was just attentive, taking away dirty plates and empty glasses quickly and silently.) The food was fresh and tasty. Not oily at oil. And everything looked clean. I'm not an afficionado of Vietnamese food. Just a fan of spring rolls and fried rice. And they both tasted good to me.

And the food is pretty cheap too. (I think we paid an average of about $16 for our evening meals.)

So if you like Vietnamese, I recommend giving this place a look. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Food Connoisseur
Good food hood service on the pricey side. The sapa hills spring rolls were great and the quail for cooked perfectly annoying that don't have other sorts of fried rice for dinner. The tofu and beans were ok and the fried barramundi was generous
Joos
Great food, BYO wine. Contrary to other comments, the food here is far from overpriced. The owners have another restaurant in Footscray and the prices here are exactly the same.
The food is delicious and very fresh. Hanoi Spring Rolls are delightful and you won't find them on every menu. Stuffed full of noodles and pork they are a very tasty starter.
Crispy skin chicken, beef with chilli & lemongrass, rare beef vietnamese coleslaw and satay chicken are just another few favourites. Am yet to have a bad dish here.
Alcohol prices are very reasonable and you can take your own wine if you so desire.
Brando The Pig
Not in the same league as the good vietnamese out west, but food here is quite delicious especially the Hanoi beef! Certainly rates higher than 65% on urban spoon, but it doesn't really justify the "upmarket" premium, althoug it is better than average
M
Traditional Viet food, modernized a little but very very good flavours. Highly recommend the soft shell crab.! Service is excellent as well and price is cheap enough. Well done Tammy.
Mr. USpoon
Cheap, Good, but Slow.. If you don't have an hour for lunch and only plan to go for dinner - then stop reading and don't worry about this place. If you do have an hour or more for lunch then I would recommend this place - cheap - any meal over $9 and you get a free soft drink with it. Typical Vietnamese cheap eat place WITHOUT the quick service?!! Yep - they take a bit of time to bring out the food, particularly on Fridays. Food taste I would rate as Good. I went there for dinner with my wife as well, No more cheap meals - the place was empty and the dinner meal was the reason - Dinner cost us a hefty $50 for three dishes and some rice - sheesh!
Molly
Great Canh Chua Ca. My husband and I love Vietnamese Sour Soup (Canh Chua) but are too lazy to cook at home and often lament the fact that we have to go to the Western suburbs to find even a decent rendition. Not any more! We had the Canh Chua Ca and Nems (Cha Gio, crispy spring rolls) and found them both to be delicious. Fish comes on the bone including the head, which is traditional and we love, but if you aren't keen I'm sure you could ask for a variation. Nems were crispy with yummy filling and served with lots of fresh herbs but perhaps not as good in terms of value as the Canh Chua.
SP
Not bad. The staff are all Vietnamese which is a good sign (and some Vietnamese diners too!). We went for the traditional dishes to play it safe. The Sapa hills special spring rolls were authentic, but the size a bit meagre. The dry Hu Tieu (pork glass noodle soup) was also pretty good. Service was distracted but times but always friendly.
Hawthorn_chick
The pork is REALLY grilled. Most vietnamese restaurants that advertise "grilled" pork just stir fry their meats. But this place really grills their signature dish of hanoi grilled pork and boy can you taste the difference! I would definitely recommend this dish. Sure the pork is a little fatty but that's what gives the meat such succulence and flavor. The pho and rice vermecilli dishes are also fresh ad tasty. With a very modern, stylish decor unexpected at a venue at this price point it is definitely more authentic than other Vietnamese fare available in this area. Has only been open a few months and we are already weekly regulars. And "Yay" no more driving to footscray!
Rich Jones
Sapa Hills II is delicious!! The food is extremely fresh with a vast selection available. The restuarant is very modern and very affordable that has very helpful staff. I absolutely love it and cant get enough of it. I have become a weekly customer. I would highly reccomend this restuarant to everyone. Fantastic!!
Ajm
Has potential. Most dishes were good
Fried rice. Excellant
A couple of dishes were a little disapointing
However this place looks promising
Good service and value
Will try again
Hara_hetta
Potential - Just needs time. It has the right qualities, fresh diverse menu, friendly staff, indoor-outdoor seating, relaxed decor and easy parking. Unfortunately, both times I've been there, it's been dead quiet and empty. Every word echoes, the staff decide to vacuum with nothing else to do, awkward and uncomfortable. Perhaps in a few months, people will come for the food and inject some 'life' and ambience to the place.!

Sanitized version of vietnamese meal. We were a little disappointed...the menu appeared to be extensive.
Mint, lettuce- but no coriander?? What the..??
Bao la lot appeared under cooked- pink mince meat ??
The squid had an unappealing fragrance and texture.
Apologies were made- and we were not charged for this.
Overall- Underwhelmed...
Best to go to Victoria st....

Full belly of pho. If you want value takeaway on glenferrie road - the Pho definitely has considerable overflowing value for just $9. It was certainly one of the freshest Asian dishes I have seen in a long time. Fresh chilli, mint, spring onion and more. Packaging a soup like that was done with considerable effort to seal and separate ingredients for hygiene.
I had a problem though with the raw beef cooking in the broth - the broth was cold so the meet didn't cook. Make sure you get your take away really quick!

First In First Out. I would like to think that afta eating Vietnamese food all across Asia including in Vietnam itself, i'd hav a fair amount of knowledge into what taste good and what taste bad.

As Sapa Hills #1 is too far away to go try, I decided to try Sapa Hills #2 in Hawthorn. I was the first into the restaurant, first to order and first to receive.

Needless to say I normally don't finish what I don't like. But today I ate because I was hungry and nothing else.

The Pho Tai (Rice Noodles with Slice Beef), let's see noodles n soup no taste, the beef nothing too... Even frozen beef barbequed has a taste. But the dish's beef had no taste.

The Cha Cha La Vong, fish was good, nice tasting good mixture of herbs and spices.

The Fried Rice with salted fish and chicken, fish was extremely salty, as if eating rock salt. Hardly any chicken. Rice was very oily. Too much spice.

After recently coming back from Vietnam, I have been on a quest to find Bun Cha (Rice Vermicelli with grilled pork) and I am relieved to say that I have discovered Sapa Hills II in Hawthorn - 623 Glenferrie Rd.
TwoMunch
The menu was a little overwhelming, there are over 200 items which is a big departure from most pho places I’ve been to that have something closer to 10. Luckily we weren’t scared off and found some delicious sounding (and tasting) meals.

As per the website Sapa Hills II aren’t trying to be anything austere! Great food, atmosphere and service at affordable prices With restaurants in Footscray and Hawthorn, Sapa Hills offers a truly unique Vietnamese dining experience. Just a good place to be and enjoy food! The menu is big and so are the smiles! It is a big space but even on a quiet lunch it feels nice and comfortable. We are all hungry and a few are reminiscing trips to Vietnam as we order traditional Vietnamese Spring Rolls and Hanoi style pork! Oh dear – mouth watering already!! Sapa Hills Special Spring Rolls crispy and aromatic with fresh herbs and tangy dipping sauce HEAVEN!! Steamed Wontons delish! Perfectly done and perfectly yum!! My first foray into Hanoi Style grilled pork with vermichelli and I hope it isn’t my last! Just amazing grilled pork with light and fresh accompaniments – just great! Salt and Pepper fried squid is textbook perfect – not greasey, not rubbery just fresh and seriously tasty! And the fin
