Review Lights In The Attic - Hawthorn

Amber Zhang
Drop there and got two crossiants in the morning. I got a matcha and salted egg croissant. They actually surprised me!!!! I’m a guy who is strict with the quality of good croissant! A perfect croissant has to be crispy outside, buttery and fluffy. Also the croissant should be not over sweet. The matcha croissant is bitter and has really strong matcha flavour, I love it! Salted egg has strong custard flavour as well!! Hands down they are delicious!

A great brekky cum lunch place in Camberwell area. Their coffee is also great

Pink juice was watery and primarily ice.. would've liked a bigger portion for $7.. Food was great!

We dined in a few weeks ago at this pleasant modern cafe with a interesting menu which has a slight fusion look to it. The smashed avocado came with a wonderful beetroot hummus and feta as a side option but it was the selection of pickled vegetables that made this dish unique. The buckwheat corn fritters was also a good choice with soft poached eggs with that golden flowing centre. Coffee was good and service prompt and friendly. I liked that when we still hadn’t decided and needed a couple more minutes the hospitality staff gave us that space.

Lovely environment, friendly staff and the food was very well presented and delicious. A perfect place to meet friends.

This is the first time I am writing a negative review because this is the worst service I’ve ever had for a long time. Definitely not worth going to dining there! Customer service was horrible, one of the lady works there was very rude, disrespectful and unprofessional, acted like she was Inconvenienced by showing your seat or taking your order. I had to remind her a few times that I would like to have brunch there while half of the restaurant was empty upon my arrival. Later, She didn't even bothered to wipe the table but just took away the cup of water from previous customer, very unhygienic. Croissants is good, I would prefer just come here take away some baked goods, but have brunch somewhere else as there are so many nice restaurants in our neighborhood with welcome experience and better menu options.

Really delicious food, and friendly staffs.the place is.clean!

Bird nest my favourite dish. Looks great and it's actually great I highly recommend this place.

You won't find a better scotch egg than the bird's nest at Lights. Portions have shrunk in recent years (prob for the better) but still taste great.

Faultless service and exceptional atmosphere. The food was delicious and the coffee was simply awesome. I had a drip cold style japanese coffee which I had never experienced. Highly recommend!!

Everything about this cafe is fabulous from the food, service, coffee and decor. The menu is amazing - you can get your standard eggs and bacon (all free range!), through to their more quirky breakfasts like the Birds Nest and Finding Nemo. And I just love how friendly the staff are, keep it up!

Consistently good coffee, great selection of food and friendly staff And very dog friendly. ☕️

The food is pretty good, but the time it takes to get a coffee is just ridiculous! If u need a caffeine fix, tell you boss you will be back in 20mins!

great food great service all round a great experience

Delish food and best coffee's, served with a smile! I'm definitely a regular here and Kevin is awesome ☕️
Steph Phillips
Great coffee, breakfast left a bit to be desired as the rind was still on the bacon...
Nalia
A really friendly place, they never pressured us to leave despite starting to pack up. Enjoyed my chai latte. However, I thought the food didn't taste as good as it looked. My corn fritter was bland, although the accompanying sauce was nice and the egg perfectly poached. Beef bulgogi burrito was ok, wedges were nice.

I was really impressed with the décor at Lights in the Attic! Love the colour scheme, and the sliding tables hehe.

Service was great, and the variety of vegan options was good too!

I tried the Tan Tan rice - super filling and yum. The potato rosti was great too. Very big and decadent.

I live nearby so will definitely be back for a nice Sunday brunch ;)

This is my new favourite place! I loved the Miso Salmon salad. Lots of flavour and good textures. Amazing coffee. Delicious and different! My Friend enjoyed her mushroom dish too. Will be back for sure.

This place has some of the best scrambled chilli eggs I’ve had! It actually had a delicious chilli hit, and the additions of pumpkin toast and grilled halloumi were fantastic!!!
Corgi The Foodie
A unique fusion brekkie cafe located at the bottom of a residential building. We ordered the pan fried salmon and tuna salad. Personally I feel the miso salmon dish had varied textures from the lotus root crisp and pomegranate seeds but on the whole the dish feels confusing in flavours. It doesn’t taste bad, just a little different.

On the other hand, the sesame tuna poke bowl was satisfying and refreshing. The only gripe is we wished there were more slices of tuna.

Coffee was strong and aromatic.

Overall if you want to try something different from your usual brekkie fare, do give this cafe a shot.

Pet friendly too with water bowls available but not a very opened space.

Love the overall vibe of the cafe! Lots of sunlight accentuating the effect of the chic interior decor. Options for indoor and outdoor dining. Beautifully served dishes with adequate tasty flavours yet not too salty as some other popular cafes out there do. Outstanding service from the attendants who are all polite and visibly enjoying what they are doing. Apparently Asian-fusion concept but the Asian aspect is not too overpowering for a brunch cafe. Will definitely come back for more.

Fantastic Japanese-influenced food and great service.
We enjoyed the beef katsu burger and buckwheat corn fritter. The chicken soba salad is not really my thing, but others enjoyed it. The coffee was superb.
There are a lot of good cafes around the area, but the food here is a cut above with great depth of flavour.

Came here for lunch and enjoyed a fantastic meal! The food had an Asian-fusion vibe that was delicious. I had the chicken soba salad and it was amazing - full of flavour, generous portion size and tasty extras (like the ramen egg!). The other dish ordered (egg basket) also looked great, and the potato rosti was so crispy! Would definitely recommend trying it out!

Came here for a late lunch. It is located a bit out of the central brunch scene.

There is both a shady outdoor area and spacious indoor area. We had the french toast and grilled salmon salad along with ice chocolates and chai latte. The food was great with the perfect combination of flavours. We also loved the iced chocolates but unfortunately the chai wasn't strong enough and more milky.

Decor was nice and you can tell they wanna do everything industrial but the tables were attached the benches that can swing to combine two tables into a big one. Great concept but the swinging table is very uncomfortable to sit at. Coffee was quite good. Two dishes we ordered were average. My smoke salmon benedict didn’t come with that fancy ‘pink rice crisp’ thing but a bunch of stale chewy rice noodles, not a good substitute at all. The purple sweet potato cake was good.
Split The Bill
Fabulous cafe in Camberwell. The staff are friendly, and the coffee is delicious. Love the decor it’s super modern yet comfy. Will definitely revisit for lunch the menu looks great.
LetsDoBreaky
Seriously good food and coffee!
We had the scotch eggs, corn & buckwheat fritters and a kids scrambled eggs. We got there early on a Sunday and even though it was quiet the service was not super attentive. The food was really outstanding- the scotch eggs light and perfectly delicious, the buckwheat fritters complex and generous, even the kids eggs were great!
Can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu
Linda
Good coffee. The food was cooked wonderfully. The flavours were good. The menu was appealing and compromised of standard favourites with a twist. Generous portions. The space was light filled and sleek. Service was a bit mediocre though.

After talking about it for so long, my partner and I finally got the chance to visit Lights in the attic again, with the sole purpose of ordering the Bird’s nest for the second time.
Just like we had remembered, everything about the dish was amazing and we couldn’t help but admire the presentation of it all. As suggested by the name, the dish resembled something similar to a birds nest- with potato strings shaped into a nest and two perfectly standing eggs which lay amongst the potato, tomato beans and kale- such a creative invention.
Of course, the flavours were just as impressive, and we loved every aspect of it. Scotch eggs were cooked to perfection, and revealed a gooey centre with egg yolk flowing out as soon as you cut into it. Not to the mention, the overall flavours of the tomato base paired with the potato nest and eggs were so delicious that I didn’t want my meal to end.
Overall, we had a lovely meal at Lights in the attic, and will no doubt be back sometime in the future!

Love this little secret of a place - fantastic food that offers a twist on typical brunch staples, and service has been spot on both times I have been. Try the soba noodle salad...so yum!!
Vanessa Carolina
My husband and I had a nice lunch here. I ordered Super Tuna Salad, it was full of flavour, delicate ingredients, and the tuna perfectly cooked. My husband had the Beef Katsu Burger, he loved it. Friendly staff and fresh atmosphere. I recommend this place for a pleasant brunch/lunch :)

If you’re looking for a trendy brunch spot in Hawthorn, we’d recommend the Lights in the Attic. The service is very friendly and you’ll find it cosy to sit near the blue curtains in the corner. Pictured is

Went for a brunch on a Saturday. Cafe is underneath an apartment building in Camberwell. Nice selection of indoor/outdoor seating. Ordered the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl & the Birds Nest. Both dishes were tasty however, for $20, the amount of actual Tuna received in the poke bowl was somewhat disappointing and quite little. Would return again to try other dishes.

I found this cafe a little underwhelming on the whole. After reading a good food blog review, the result was average. The staff, while nice enough, weren’t really attentive and we were placed right in the middle of a walkway. The colours and tones throughout could have been calming and serene but just didn’t quite achieve the desired vibe. The food was tasty but portion sizes differed with each meal. Coffee was average. On the whole, it wasn’t bad, just nothing great.
Hello. Imnikki
4.5

Lights in the Attic or more like light at the end of the tunnel. Needing a jumpstart to my day, and Lights in the Attic made sure I was well provided for. Wonderful service, delicious food, great coffee and not forgetting the relaxing and casual vibe of the place.

My partner and I shared the Bird Nest and Beef Katsu Burger. Both awesome dishes in their own right, but if I had to choose, the burger comes out top. The beef katsu patty was encased in a light crispy batter, and the middle was still slightly red and very succulent. The Monterey Jack Cheddar provided a sharp flavour that combined perfectly with the sweet and tangy apple BBQ sauce. The bun was soft yet held its shape extremely well. I couldn't fault anything with this burger.

Similarly, the Bird Nest was an absolutely flavourful dish that was rich in flavours and hearty. The scotch eggs were amazing, with its beautiful runny yolks. The only minor issue I had with this dish was that the potato nest could benefit from a bit more crunch.

Our skinny lattes were excellent - smooth, strong and just the right temperature.

A previous review mentioned that they don't accept the Entertainment Book voucher but this is now not the case. The discount was provided with no fuss.

Honestly love everything about this place. The food was spectacular and the coffee was the best I have had in a long time.

Came here on a warmer day to try the hyped Bird's nest.
The dish is so well made. Flavour balance is great, everything in seasoned well and the eggs are perfectly cooked with a runny yolk. Tasting the dish we feel like it has been made by people who appreciate food and took the care to make sure each element was made well.

The coffee was also amazing that we ended up getting another round of takeaway coffees as we left.
The staff were also lovely and happy to give their recommendations which didn't disappoint.
Great place for a weekend brunch. The food is exceptional and well priced, and the service has always been friendly. I've come back multiple times because it's that good.

There are a lot of good brunch options around us. This time we went left instead of right and ended up at Lights in the Attic (not to be confused with Light Years). Sweet Benny: poached eggs, smoked salmon, hollandaise sauce on sweet potato hash browns with pea puree and parmesan crisp. Totes delicious. I loved the sweet hash browns. Nice dish.
Kelly Ditchburn
We ordered the birds nest and Lights out breakkie which were both incredibly delicious, the poached eggs were perfectly cooked and both meals seasoned well. Only downside was the moving table and it was a little clinical looking but would definitely go back again.

Photos must have been taken on a wide angle lens. Small and cramped. Then too busy to worry about us and told us to wait but gave up without eating there. So can’t rate the food etc!

Great space great food - large portions and friendly service . Loved the coffee too. Definitely recommend and would love to try more of their dishes on our next visit

We’d been to Lights in the Attic a number of times a few years ago, but haven’t been in about 2 years. We saw it pop up in the latest Entertainment Book and decided it was time for another visit. HOWEVER, when it came to time to pay, we were told that they were not (and never were) part of the Entertainment Book and that they’ve told the publication a few times to take them off, but Lights is still showing as an offer. So be aware of this if you are going there expecting a discount!

Nevertheless, we enjoyed our meal there. The Sweet Benny was really delicious (and gorgeous - see photo) and the poke bowl was also really good. However, the kids pancakes were a bit too oily and the choc brownie was surprisingly un-chocolatty.
Went here for brunch the other day. Was pleasantly surprised by how filling the meal was.

Ordered:
- Chicken Soba Salad + side of chips
Soba dressing was delicious, and the chicken exceeded expectations. Kind of similar to teriyaki sauce. The chips came with seasoning.

Ambience: Aesthetic and open space. I personally loved the colour palette of pink and navy.

Would come back again to try the other dishes.

Lights in the Attic has been on my To Try list for ages now! I have finally got the time to do a weekday brunch and paid an overdue visit to Lights in the Attic. First up, I loved the 'millennial' style of interiors they've got going with interestingly placed tables as well as the accents of pastel pink and navy blues around the cafe.

For the food, I ordered the Bird's Nest which came with two Scotch Eggs sitting on a bed of chili and an intricate potato nest. My friend and I both raved over the eggs which was 'wrapped' over on a layer of meat but remained perfectly oozy in the middle. The potato nest was delicious as well (can't really go wrong with fried potatoes, I say)! The crispy kale on top also added another layer of crunchiness. The only thing I could fault was the bed of chili at the bottom as I just found it to be a little bit too acidic and distracting when paired with the fantastic Scotch Eggs. Seriously. The Scotch Eggs were just so good that my friend 'nearly' swiped it off my plate if I didn't have my eyes stuck on it.

Next up was the Banoffee Waffle Bowl that was filled with banoffee cream and vanilla ice cream. It was sitting under some milo soil and jaffa sauce. The waffles were still a little crisp and had a distinct salty-banana flavour to it which I really enjoyed.
Bite The Looks By BHA
Such a good day to eat brunch at lights in the attic. I ordered Birdnest, risotto (very recommended menu by the staff), chai latte and coffee. They give us a huge portion of the food, which we did not finished the food at all becoz we were too full! The place was nice. They have inside and outside table, so i choose to sit inside. The ambience and the vibes was very positive. The have cute pink table in the middle of the cafe. The staff has also very helpfull and kindly in explaining us about the menu. Overall, satisifying cafe spot! #BHAsFoodDiary

Sadly disappointing. The decor was lovely, the waiter friendly and attentive but... on a very quiet Tuesday morning, our tasty but tepid (almost cold) coffees arrived with a recommendation we try the Bird’s Nest for brekky. We ordered that and the Sweet Benny (served on a sweet potato hash). Waited and waited ages (the waiter apologised that the kitchen hadn’t ‘prepped’ the Bird’s Nest) for our food to arrive. The coldish Bird’s Nest was lovely, perfectly cooked scotch eggs and very tasty. The Sweet Benny was pleasant until you reach the sweet potato hash which was very raw and uncooked on the bottom of the plate. This was very nearly a great breakfast, the flavours of everything were lovely, but on a quiet morning we waited ages for cold coffee, cold breakfast and uncooked hash brown gloop. Won’t be back.
The Brunch Specialist
Lights in the Attic is one of the best cafes I’ve visited this year. The decor is beautiful, I love the touch of pastel.

Whether stopping by for a quick coffee or sitting down for brunch, the staff always make you feel welcome.

The menu is creative and exciting, I had difficulty deciding what to order. We eventually settled on the passionfruit mango granola and the sweet benny. Both dishes came out beautifully presented and were delicious.

This cafe is one of my favourites and I recommend that you check them out. I want to go back and try out more of the menu.

After recent renovation, Lights in the Attic looked more simple, neat with minimalist decoration.
The coffee there was even better than before, with some different selection include single origin from Kenya&Guatemala.
The menu was change totally, with more focus on Asian fusion style brunch menu as made the food more interesting.
#Birds Nest#-one food item that kept from the previous menu. On top of the chilli bean base( quite acidity from tomato) there were extremely crunchy potato nest and topped with two perfectly cooked Scotch eggs. The meat that coated the eggs were not overly thick, the egg had beautiful runny/custard like egg yolk and crunchy shell.
#Finding Nemo#-Japanese fusion style scramble egg with smoked salmon, edamame, katsuobushi(bonito flakes) and tobiko(flying fish roe). The scrambled egg were nice and creamy, tasted great with mayo. Also the soft pumpkin toast was a nice highlight!
#nourish bowl#-beetroot cured tofu, kimchi, pickled carrot, avocado, edamame, corn, fried shallots and purple rice. After mixing with the tuna sashimi(extra cost), the whole thing looked like a poke bowl with lots of greens, and beautifully truffle oil soaked poached egg(extra cost). The soy dressing was a good combination, added extra sweetness and saltness into the dish and make it less dry. I quite enjoyed the dish, recommend to people who want something lighter.
delicious food and genuinely friendly staff. I'll definitely go back.
The Pumpkin bun on the Chicken Burger was great, but the honey soy flavoured chips were the star of the show.
Nat
Coffee is good but the breakie bruschetta needed a little more love. Really lacked a good lunch of flavour. Might wait for a menu change to get the food here again.
Delightfullytasty
Lights in the Attic prides themselves on quality food and coffee, with a relaxing atmosphere to 'bring light to the space in your day'. The service was really great, with attentive and friendly staff, and our food came out in less than 10 minutes. I had planned to have the Scotch Eggs Birds Nest dish as I had seen it as one of their most popular dishes, but unfortunately when we were ordering, were informed that they were already out, which was a little disappointing.

Saturday 02 December 2017 at 1.30pm.
An excellent cafe 👍🏻
The food ideas are unique and innovative.
The food was extremely taste 😋
The Birds Nest and Finding Nemo were great 👏🏻
The coffee was good ☕️
A great cafe choice 😊😊😊

We joined friends for brunch. I had the Scotch Eggs as did my friend. The were perfect in every way. Not too much minced meat, eggs were still soft. A well put together & very tasty meal. My wife had a Rueben & she said it was “ok” she added that it was light on for corned beef & it lacked taste. The other friend had scrambled eggs, bacon & mushrooms & she loved it but struggled to finish it. We were all taken with the staff. The were so attentive, friendly & engaging & you felt like you actually meant something. We definitely will be going back but for lunch next time. Highly recommend.
Alijargalb
Had the scotch eggs and my brother had the eggs Benedict. It was my first time having scotch eggs and I quite enjoyed them, but thought the dish needed some acidity to cut the spice. The eggs Benedict was good, but needed some sourdough or a bread. The coffee is also quite good. Overall it’s a good brunch place
Hungry Ham
I’ve steered away from brunch given my last few experiences have been underwhelming if not totally disappointing. We’ve been to lights before but had heard that they had recently renovated and revamped the menu so we went to check it out. The menu looked pretty similar but I had already decided on the sweet Benny whilst on route to the cafe. The dish was beautifully presented and tasted even better. The sweet potato hash was surprisingly sweet (not bland like other places), perfectly crisp and not oily at all. The pea mash was a perfect accompaniment and helped balance out the saltiness of the salmon. Definitely recommend this dish! We also ordered the find Nemo which we’ve had before but found it to be better last time we had it. Coffees were good as always and service is always spot on at lights. They also serve crux and co pastries although I gave dessert a miss. Overall a great experience and would highly recommend! It’s always easy to find parking too which is an underrated bonus!
Jess
Had to wait a while for a seat on sunday, to be expected I guess. Coffee good. The eggs in a nest were delicious, my partner's chicken burger didn't have much chicken on it though.
Little Picky Very Hungry
So excited to visit Lights in the Attic as they had recently relaunched with a brand new interior and menu. Everything about this cafe was so captivating😍💖💖
.
The famous BIRDS NEST ($19.5) 🐦🍳 was delicately made, almost too pretty to eat!! it was super tasty, love the tomato chilli bean base🍅🌶, added a bit of moist to the oozing scotch eggs. Well done!
.
PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY FRENCH TOAST ($16.5) 🍞🥓 with peanut butter cream, maple candied bacon and fairy floss was so good. It wasn’t too sweet, the maple bacon perfectly paired with the soft sweetness of the french toast. They have got it right!!😋
.
Coffee was decent, Staffs were attentive and warm welcoming, perfect ambience 🎐The decoration was lovely with plenty of natural light brightens it, just like the name of the cafe 🌞
.
I would definitely revisit to try out other innovative dishes on the menu : ) OH! they also served The Crux &Co. pastries too (one more reason to come back 🥐😝), as they both owned by the same owner. Worth a visit!

Pros:
- friendly staff
- yummy food! Ordered their best seller, Bird's nest as well as Finding Nemo. Both dishes well balanced and tasty!
- pet friendly plus they have a doggie menu which was really cute!
- plenty of parking space around
- nice ambience
- good price
- coffee was also good!

Cons:
- can't think of any right now. Positive points: Delicious food (hash browns, burrito, ...as an exception my friend didn't like the granola) and very attentive and friendly staff.
Negative points: coffee rather bitter and very few vegetable options on the menu.
All in all a solid 4

Very much looking forward to lights in the attic re-opening, this french toast was divine on my last visit. New enu and a new look excited to be back in soon.

Went to this cafe for both breakfast and lunch. Very cute decor, great coffee and friendly, enthusiastic staff. The menu is varied catering to a me,a vegan and my friend, who is gluten intolerant very well. We even dropped a coffee and the staff were extremely lovely about it all. We will be back 😎

This place is a little hidden, but puts up an impressive fight against its other successful neighbouring cafes. The cafe is clean and well decorated and the staff are very friendly and inviting. The food is pleasing to the eye/well presented and the flavour certainly is not lacking. The coffee here is average and not outstanding. I would like to see something more innovative from these guys to set them apart from the rest, though.

Delicious food! The menu was great and had so many things I wanted to try. We had the 'Finding Nemo' and the 'Birds Nest', which I think are 2 of the must tries! They also have a yummy iced chocolate which I couldn't take a pic of. The ambience was super trendy, staff were friendly and service was fast!

Wanted to try a cafe near us for a weekday brunch and chose this place. It was a pleasant surprise, as we hadn't heard much about it. The staff were soooooo friendly, it was one of the highlights of our experience! The actual set up of the cafe was lovely with lots of natural light, which you can't tell when you're looking in from the road. We all really enjoyed our meals, I was recommended the KFC burger, and it was delicious, the sauce used was so tasty. My sister ordered the soba noodles, which I tried and als really enjoyed. Refreshing flavours, and well presented. The coffee I had was also really great quality and taste. Will return to try more menu items!
Kaitlin Maree
Great food, chai lattes and the service is the best. Very friendly staff and happy to help with menu and suggest what to get if your not sure. I had poached eggs on toast last time I was there and the eggs were cooked to perfection
Kate Dougherty
Casual cafe with a fairly standard menu. There were a few stuff ups with our order but the staff were friendly and apologetic so it wasn't a huge drama. I went with the finding nemo scrambled eggs which came with chilli flakes, smoked trout and bonito flakes. A really tasty spin on a classic.
Joan
We love the food. Yummy. Friendly service :) my 4 year old fussy eater loves this! So it is a win for us :) enjoy our weekend brunch! Recommended

Sweet potato fritter with Salmon with pea and hollandaise was quite nice and unique combo, the coffee was average for Melbourne standards and the avo smash was mediocre at best. Every great cafe should be able to achieve a smashed avo, and this was not the case for our experience. The unfortunate was it would have been a much more pleasant experience if the service was better, from being too attentive to not being able to find a waitress at all, asked for our first coffee by 4 different people to not being able to find anyone to take our order. We would have stayed for a sweet treat or drink but opted to not.

$5 for bacon on the side and .50c for tomato sauce confirmed why we won't return.

Disappointing for the parts we did enjoy. If you do go, get the salmon!
Maddie Kingham
Josh and I used to live down the road so would come for coffee here all the time. The staff are always super friendly and the coffees never take long. There is a minimum for card though, and they are very inflexible about it- not even a simple surcharge for under $10 - so when buying two coffees its cash or nothing. The food is good- we would usually get a croissant or something to go but would occasionally sit in. I like their French toast, although it seemed like the egg had not absorbed properly and sat on top like a scrambled egg coating, which was slightly weird and off putting. It still looked pretty though and tasted pretty good (maple syrup saves anything!). I came here again recently and built my own breakfast and they still brought it out looking beautiful. A nice place to go for a weekend brunch or a quick takeaway coffee and pastry. I'm very keen to try the scotch egg- next time!
Olga
Food delicious! Food styling 5/5! Very creative chefs
Service: 2/5... slow, coffee took longer than food to arrive.
The environment is trendy and welcoming.
Definitely will be back.
Taster
Have visited probably half a dozen times now and never been disappointed. Great coffee hits the mark every time. Friendly service. Recommend!
BL
Such a pity the service is very much lacking as the food is quite inventive, tasty & fresh. The coffee isn't bad either. We waited forever to have our order taken & it was only due to the very obvious eyes we made at staff (standing about doing not much) that eventually we ordered, I was ready to walk out but my partner was keen to eat.
The Tastebud
Great flat white and very tasty mushrooms on Toast with scrambled egg. Very grateful that they were happy to swap a poached egg with scrambled egg. Not all cafes do.
Yes, I would definitely return.
Parking is 2 hr parking out the front and the staff are polite and friendly.
Mariposa
Hidden inside a modern looking building an unassuming cozy escape lies within- fresh white and well lit interior furnished with a hint of vintage and provincial touches. The ambiance is lively, the coffee is skillfully brewed and some beverages are served or presented using lab equipment! The menu actively reflects the uniqueness of the decor!
What attracted me to lights in the attic I must say is the birds nest dish- breakfast of champions!! Everything you want in a satisfying dish that fills your heart and tummy on a lazy Sunday morning! This is a construction with a foundation of chilly beans with chorizo crowned by a nest of knitted crispy shoe string fries housing the 2 golden scotch eggs with a Devine oozy interior! A big mention goes to the artisan pastries- from light and elegant friands to the seductive croissants.
Spudsburgeradventures
Nice little cafe in Hawthorn East, but producing some delicious food. The service was friendly and the food and coffees came out quickly. We tried their version of a breakfast pizza, which was something I would never have even contemplated before but the combo of roti, blue cheese, egg, bacon, pomegranate, pistachio maple syrup with sweet potato chips on the side was one of the more inspired meals I've had for a while. The chili eggs with pork floss, crackling and bacon was also a winner. Definitely happy this is not far from home!
Aussie Meets World
Situated in Hawthorn East, this local gem is a bit of a surprise to find in a suburb that is mostly residential and a bit of a middleman between bustling Hawthorn and Camberwell. Located unassumingly at the base of an apartment building, the cafe takes on an intriguing modern industrial crossed with nature design. The low ceiling and floor is grungy concrete slabs with a maze of cables and ducting, colourful pipes and hanging light bulbs. This is contrasted by a sleek white tiled counter, light timber furnishings and a scattering of native bottle rushes and eucalypts throughout the cafe. Seating is a row of small tables looking out onto Camberwell Road, some timber booths and some more small tables in the outside courtyard. The modern industrial design flows through to the tables which are made of timber mounted to what appeared to be shelving frames.
Cookielessvee
Friendly service and nice interior inside. The coffees are alright and have the latte art on top. Wide variety of dishes to pick from in which the birds best is most popular. Well decorated dishes and definately recommend the birds nest. The relish compliments the potato best whilst having the flavour of the battered egg. The pulled pork burger is alright, the pork is a bit tough, though the salads make the burger filling.
Clarissa
Great presentation but the food lacked in flavours. The service provided also was a bit slow. I sat outside with my friend and it's quite hard for me to get the staff member's attention. The only good thing that satisfy me is their iced chocolate.

Cool venue. Food and coffee are great. Parking is fine after clearway ends. Staff not overly friendly. Toilet did not flush. Menu a bit hard to read on the wall. But all in all probably the best cafe in the vicinity.
Gem
Absolutely love this place. Menu is unique, atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, staff were great, food was delicious! We ordered the birds nest and the chilli eggs. Both were tasty, hearty and very filling. Oj was fresh and coffees were tasty! Can't wait to come back and try more of their dishes!

Light in the attic is located in an usual part of Hawthorn: beneath an apartment building and surrounded by gyms and other fitness centres. I briefly wondered if I should feel guilty for indulging in brunch instead of working out like the innumerable people in the buildings around me. That thought was quickly dashed when I looked over the menu!
I was ready to love Lights in the Attic but sadly it didn’t entirely hit the mark. That said, there was nothing wrong with it. The dishes, space and service were all fairly nice but I think that we had hyped up the dishes just a bit too much after seeing the vibrant and inviting pictures online. The actual dishes didn’t elicit quiet the same response.

Lovely spot for coffee and food was great. Pictured is the Bird's Nest: a couple of scotch eggs on a potato rosti nest with chorizo salsa. Big kudos to the fun waiter who kept our 2 year old entertained with a huge bag of toys!
Gale
Nice and friendly staff. Everyone is smiley. Coffee was good but reckon the temperature was slighyly below usual. Ordered a pull pork burger and was of great disappointment. Bun itself was took thick and doughy. pull pork was dry and tasteless. When bite into the burger oil was oozing out.
Tonytonytony
Beautifully presented breakfast/brunch on a busy road. Tea was a bit weak, but the juices were delicious. The rosti fried eggs and hollandaise was my choice and was excellent. We also had the finding nemo very good and the French toast was probably the best dish of all. Recommended.
Biscuit Musca
Been to this place twice. First time, I had the white forest. The serving is quite big, it's very satisfying. Came back for second time on the weekend, had the French toast and bird nest which looks amazingly Insta-worthy and they taste as good as they look. Coffee was great, service was excellent, had a really great experience here.
BrunchQueen
The waiter was awesome and full of energy! The food came out quick and everything was delicious. The coffee was great. Overall a trendy and fab vibe

HIGH COURT OF CONSUMPTION

BETTY COCKER CJ

SUMMARY JUDGMENT

1. Lights in the Attic offers very creative options on the otherwise boring brunch fare that you so often see here in Melbourne. People are getting lazy, let's face it. The JUDGE needs to be wowed! She needs to be wetted! She needs to get moist! Luckily this place got her a bit tingly, so that's two legs up from the JUDGE!

Trendy cafe and slightly hidden , another great place that offers interesting brunch menu, with some Japanese inspired dishes. We loved the smoked ocean trout scrambled eggs on toast with bonito flakes and the chicken soba noodles salad!
Tastebud Tester
Bird Nest is hands down the best dish here.
+ Great atmosphere, service & food of course. Excellent way to kick off the weekend. Coffee is just perfect here too 😃
Miffy
We had the Finding Nemo (smoked trout scrambled eggs with bonito) and pulled pork burger today. Both were good and coffee was wonderful too. The triple cooked wedges that came with the burger were the best I've had - very crunchy in spite of the thickness. 👍🏼 Meals here are generously portioned.

The roti pizza with the bacon, pomegranate and blue cheese sounds really interesting. Might be back another time for it.
Gemma
Not a bad little local cafe. I really like how you can completely customise your breakfast/brunch. The prices are reasonable, and the service is always good, too!

My favourite brunch place in melbourne so far. French toast is my favourite, love their shop decoration and friendly customer service. AND they're super kids friendly!
Kim
It's lovely that this cafe is dog friendly, and has outside seating and dog water bowl. The decor and staff are all lovely, and menu options are a bit different to usual breakfast options. We had the birds nest and chilli eggs. The chilli eggs were probably nicer, but the birds nest presentation was quite cute. The food was nice but not amazing. Overall really nice. ☺
DiLing
Nice design for the shop. Not a coffee person but their coffee smells real good! 👍🏻 I was amazed by the plating for the bird nest!!! It taste so good!!!!
Hemant Bhatia
awful food... serves the worst parts of the bacon, at a very high price... bad service and above all a very very rude waitress..... toast came after the meal was over... had to ask for butter 3 times.... DO NOT RECOMMEND

Stopped in for brunch. Found the staff definitely friendly enough, ambience alright too. Coffee was pretty good actually. A few menu items making a deliberate attempt to offer something different from the norm - had the "pizza" on Roti bread and the chili eggs as examples of these. Reasonably tasty, poached eggs slightly under (whites). Saw a few more standard dishes go out - choose your own toast, eggs and sides like spinach or fresh avo. All looked fresh , good quality, and cleanly prepared. Good little spot, consistently busy while we were there. No doubt popular with the locals.
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
After seeing so many photos of the Bird Nest on Instagram, I’m really glad that this dish turned out to be as tasty as it looks. In fact all the dishes here are well presented. This cafe is bright and airy, and the service friendly.
Elly Baker
It an adventurous menu, the roti based pizza with bacon, blue cheese, fried egg, and maple syrup with sweet potato fries was delicious! This place exceeded all of our expectations

Breakfast on Sunday - porridge with fruit and a sprinkling of nuts and a design yourself plate of eggs meats vegetable additions and sauces. Both meals were substantial hot and delicious. Industrial chic surrounds, smiling staff and excellent coffee made for a most enjoyable meal. I have tried and love the birds nest - a signature dish.
Misherue
What drew our attention to this place at first was the Bird’s Nest dish complete with scotch eggs sitting on top of a potato nest. I mean really, who comes up with this sorta stuff??
Hungry Hippo
They have interesting menu at this cute corner cafe. They look exciting and the food is actually good. Service is good, too, but can be a bit slow. However, their air con is freezing! Was unpleasant to wait for my food for so long in freezing cold.
DuckieLovesToEat
We came here for breakfast and I must say I was loving the look of this place. It was such a neat looking cafe. We were greeted by a friendly waiter and asked us to sit wherever and he will come with our menu. I already know what I want as I had a look at the menu the night before. I had my usual which was french toast with skinny latte. The french toast was just amazing and my skinny latte was good. I will definitely go back for that french toast!
Ross
While this is a decent looking cafe that makes perfect use of a difficult space, it has a long way to go in terms of service and menu diversity. The staff are very friendly, but awfully slow. For the prices they charge, I would expect better. I visited on a weekday, so would hate to go back on a weekend when patronage has doubled. If you are after a quick lunch, then be prepared to wait.
Isabel Loveband
Had a late breakfast with a friend , had the wild forest , had good flavours but when the dish arrived at the table the toast underneath was already cold . Service was friendly .
Adela Adre
A really pretty place with minimalist decoration. I ordered the BIRD NEST, ATTIC Pizza, and Porridge w/ seasonal food. The food comes in generous portion and it tastes decent. The staffs are friendly and the service was fast! Good coffee too! A good place to have quality time with your love ones🤗
Kate
What can I say about this gem of a place!!! Had honestly one of the best brunch's I've ever had. The service was great, very polite and attentive wait staff who were very helpful in talking us through the menu. The birds nest (scotch eggs on a potato rosti nest with a spicy kransky and bean sauce base) was so clever and delicious. The eggs were perfectly runny inside, the potato nest was crunchy and the bean sauce tied it all together. The coffee was also great! My only criticism is that the coffee could have been slightly hotter. But honestly it's such an awesome place, would certainly recommend.
Naomi
I came here expecting good things and was sorely disappointed.
My friend ordered something, made changes after asking if it was ok and being told yes. Then 15 minutes later the waiter comes back saying it wasn't possible, despite being told it was.
She tried to order something else, and was told it would take 20 minutes to make. My food came out at this time.
We were not offered options, nor were they willing to fast track anything she ordered.
Atrocious service. Average food.
Would not recommend.
Urbanette
I come here often for coffees even though they are on the more expensive end. I much prefer the atmosphere here compared to some nearby outlets (Blood Orange). The veggie burger is delicious.
Yulan
awesome place. Great atmosphere and even greater food . Love the scotch egg with heaps of tomato sauces ~ gonna come back to try more dishes
Ali T
Great little cafe in Hawthorn. Came here especially for their famous "Birds Nest" scotch eggs dish. This was absolutely delicious! The serving was extremely generous (the Instagram photos were very misleading!) and super filling. Lots of different textures - the crunchy potato rosti nest, tomato sauce base filled with beans & chorizo, the delicate scotch eggs and fresh rocket on top. Skinny latte was great too. Only downer was we had to sit outside in the cold, otherwise it would have been a 45minute wait.

Food: 4.5/5
Service: 4/5
Environment: 4/5

I think this cafe needs to work on diversifying there menu to cater for people that don't eat pork. Coffee was good though. But couldn't stay to eat.

Lights in the attic is a relatively new and spacious cafe, with science apparatus used as decor throughout. The staff are friendly and very attentive, with a short wait for coffee and food, although the cafe was not as busy as expected for a Sunday. In terms of the menu, there is a small range of more inventive meals, as well as the more standard offerings such as big breakfasts and eggs with sides.
Eat.Play.Shop.
Bubs and I ventured down to Lights in the Attic on one of our brunch roulette adventures. Like a lot of new cafes in the area, it's on the ground floor of a new small apartment complex. I've always wondered what it's like to live above a cafe, would the fragrance of coffee and breakfast wake you everyday, or would you get sick of the smell?
Fat Teddys Crew
Pretty food, okay service. Coffees were good, menu has some interesting breakfast items & combinations although personally the French Toast was a bit odd: the egg was like an omelette attached to brioche slices ie you could peel the thick layer of egg from the bread.
Michael
Friendly staff and nice vibe. One of the staff forgot our order and left us waiting for 45 minutes. They apologised and surprisingly pay for everything that we ordered 😆

In terms of the menu, there is a small range of more inventive meals, as well as the more standard offerings such as big breakfasts and eggs with sides. The scotch eggs were crisp on the outside, with a gooey yolk within, and I really enjoyed the crunchy potato nest. The portion size of this meal was really generous, and I liked the creative way in which the dish was presented. I felt, however, that the tomato paste was perhaps a bit too prominent in the base.
FullCreamAhead
Definitely not your average brekky menu! "BIRDS NEST" >> Scotch eggs w. potato chips nest and kransky chilli bean base with parmesan cheese. I have never had anything like it. They also have the option of a build your own breakfast if you're up for something simpler. Value for money was top notch. Loved the open space and layout, its not often that I dont feel packed in like a sardine while trying to eat at popluar cafes. AND staff were outstanding. . . WIN WIN WIN!

Came here for breakfast with a group of 10 and the food was pretty good but I felt the price vs portion size was off. I would have liked to have paid less or have a larger serving. Adding to this, I also felt the food took a bit too long to cook and be served.

Apart from this, the customer service was good and food was enjoyable...Id come here again.

The right place to have delicious brunch. Went here with my friends. The service was good and the food is interesting. I love the taste of the Attic Pizza, its simply amazing. I also love the finding nemo. Its a salmon scrmble egg dish but it taste like Japanese takoyaki which is very interesting. The famous dish is the bird nest. However, i dont find it really special. The food does look good and unique. The chilli egg is also an interesting dish. I would prefer chilli egg than the bird nest which they both use tomato base sauce. They also have interesting choices of wraps from korean, chinese to western choice of wraps. Lights of the Attic do cook tasty food. However, we waited quite long for the food to be served. But its a great experience.

It was a rainy day and like a lantern beckoning us in from the gloom, shone Lights in the Attic. The interior was industrial but cosy with a bit of quirkiness provided by a sprinkle of scientific laboratory equipment. The menu is focused squarely on breakfast.
Nicola M
I've been here a few times and every time Lights in the Attic lives up to my expectations of what a Melbourne cafe should be like. Staff are always lovely and polite. Yesterday I was served by a bubbly blonde waitress who was friendly and made me feel at home, far exceeding the level of service I have received from other cafes in the area. Coffee was consistent and as good as it has been on previous occasions. Keep up the good work!
Absoloodle
Not a attic but nice and light.. Nice fitout... same old stuff. Subway tiles, Scandinavian wood, industrial lighting. Nothing new here but I like these cafes, they are usually the sign of a good meal. The menu is quite limited and then there's the build your own meal option. Ie. eggs your way, add bacon/ham/trout add vege choice. I'm not a big fan of this to be honest, I feel like any good chef wouldn't waste time with this tea rooms option. The coffee was strong and pretty good... but if I was the owner I wouldn't make them as strong so the punter would order another one! Feta+Avocado is a few slices of avo and a dollop of feta. Try cutting it up, add parsley and some lemon juice/spices. Im a huge fan of potato rosti instead of toast but they ruined this by deep frying slivered potato... it tasted like a oily packet of potato chips. I'm not going to dislike this cafe because it has potential... good luck.

A fabulous find!. Absolutely wonderful little cafe! Fabulous food, service and atmosphere. The staff are always so welcoming and go the extra mile to make you feel like their most valued client.

I first came to this lovely cafe last Thursday, have nothing to say about their drinks, very aromas :). For the foods, I had the vegetarian dishes Mr.Bean while my friends ordered the Wild Forest. Both were delicious but Mr. Bean was a bit sweet and served with quite hard corn (or quinoa beans, no idea ^^) and the Wild Forest was spicy to me as well, the staff should ask customer how spicy they would like to in advance. Overall, i love this place, nice staff, impressed interior design, good and afforable food... Will definitely come back.
The Cat
First time here, great place.
Just had my first brew and very very impressed! Lovely color & aroma, well done barista's. Will be back to try the food, looking forward to it.

Organised mayhem. Disorganised to say the least
Sorry but I would say the boss is not present to witness what is going on
My veggie burger was taken by another patron
Blank stares from all staff means nobody knows what goes on
A snatch of money and no thank you will certainly mean my premonition was correct and I was right
No veggie burger and everyone running around like headless chooks
Good luck

Only half fill large take away. Not sure when it became practise to only half fill large take away cups. At first I thought I must have ordered a regular and they must have ran out of regular sized cups..but no. Second time i went here i ordered a large and again only just half full. Perhaps even under half full. Cup feels empty. Whats the go with that?

Friendlytoad
because although ‘Breakfast’ is really just eggs adapted to how you like it because you choose the style of bread and can add different side elements, the specials menu included a ‘pulled pork belly with Korean satay sauce’ and a Bird’s Nest which was ‘scotch eggs, potato chips, kransky chilli and grated parmesan’
Melissa
Great little place. Staff friendly and food great. Love that the food isn't your usual breakfast menu.

Food and service. Great food and one of the few places where the staff are not doing you a favour when they serve you they have a great attitude
They treat you like a customer

Lots of goodies. STAY AWAY! This place is SO GOOD I don't want to share it with anyone else. I've visited several times and the food, service and coffee is immaculate.

Ps. Don't get wifi, it kills all conversation.

Clean and Simple!. Very clean, decor is great and the food is superb. My buddy and I went in for breakfast the other morning and I had a simple poached eggs (cooked perfectly to my liking) and he had something called the Wild Forest - which was spiced scrambled eggs, bacon and potato mushrooms (yes, potatoes cut into the shape of little mushrooms!), finished with a frosting of pork floss and crackle. It was unique and very tasty. Will definitely be going back soon. Keep up the good work!

Happy Valentine's Day, we had really busy day today. Thank you for all the beautiful people that came in to see us today. We would like to however apologise to the young couple that came in this morning for breakfast and were not attended to promptly. We hope you will still come in and see us again soon! We love you all:)
Kelly Davis
Really tasty food and very generous servings - the grilled mushrooms were with my poached eggs were delicious. Great coffee and the staff are attentive but not intrusive. The retro decor is fresh and modern, however it wasn't busy for a Saturday morning - it's not easy to find as it's tucked under an apartment building - I hope the locals spread the word so this new little gem survives in a busy precinct.

Wow! What I can say but this place is a gem. It's got variety so if u want original creative food u got it. But if u want to stick to ur basics there's the customizable brekky option. Got the finding nemo scrambled eggs n salmon which was really well done. Great quality food. Will def be back!! The birds nest is also worth a try
Paige Brown
Lovely!. Went here for the first time today and I couldn't believe how good it was!! Food was amazing, and considering how good the food was it wasn't overly expensive. They were a little understaffed but consdiering the waiter was still on point and attentive. I would highly reccomend to come here!
Calypso Spirit
Neither like or dislike. Ordered a Chai Latte with skim milk and was given soy milk instead because the waiter: a) did not want to take responsibility for the mistake OR b) he was telling the truth when he said "the barista only makes soy chai lattes because that's how they are supposed to be made". Needless to say, no one likes to be told that their order is "wrong" because it "doesn't taste good" to someone else's liking. Food is certainly good in terms of taste and portions are good except fries- there is never enough! Lame service, also didn't like how a waitress came and sat right next to us and lit up her disgusting cigar looking smoke. We were outside at the tables with our dog. Isn't it good practice to leave the premises if you are staff? At least notice we aren't smokers. Ok for food but doubt we will be here again. :(

Bird Nest. Such a great dish, fun, generous and tastes amazing.

Went there on GF day so was nice and quiet. Service was good, very friendly and helpful. Food was very tasty. Loved the theme of the cafe. Shame the long blacks weren't up to scratch! Will go back regardless of the coffee just a shame I couldn't enjoy my brunch with a good coffee!

A true gem!!!. Had an amazing experience here for a Saturday brunch. Friendly staff, beautiful decor and delicious food. A must visit :)

No care or attention taken. Ordered a Long Black, got charged for and given a Flat White. I took it back to get my Long Black. Guy who took my order incorrectly was now on shots. Long Black had no crema ontop when I received it two seconds after they made it. Shot must have ran really quickly without any care or attention.

Top Notch!. I've just returned from a Father's Day breakfast here. I'd read the reviews before going and had high hopes, I was not disappointed. In all honesty I think it's the best cafe I've been to since moving to Melbourne 10 months ago. The service is friendly and welcoming. The staff were quick to seat us, took our drink order immediately and checked in at regular intervals- without being overbearing.

We ordered a build your own breakfast consisting of: sourdough toast, scrambled eggs, grilled tomatoes, grilled spinach and potato rosti. We also ordered the French toast and the fruit salad, plus a couple of coffees. The coffees were wonderful. The food arrived promptly and the first thing that struck me was the portion sizes! These are big servings folks. I have paid almost twice the price elsewhere for a rosti half the size. The food was presented beautifully, the French toast was particularly pretty. We each tried all of the dishes we had ordered and loved them all. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly (something I'm overly picky about), not sloppy and not rubbery. The fruit salad had a wide selection of fruit and the quality of ingredients was great, this was my 4 year old son's dish and every few mouthfuls he kept telling us how yummy it was. It was nice to see there was no skimping on high ticket items like raspberries and blueberries. Oh, and the French toast was utterly indulgent. It tasted as good as it looked.

We then got another take away coffee each as we were heading out the door. They were free for Father's Day, which was a really sweet touch.

My only minor nitpick would be that when our empty coffee cups were cleared we weren't asked if we'd like another drink.

Overall it was a wonderful dining experience. On the way home my Son was already talking about going back.

So glad it's here. Great , as yet, fairly undiscovered gem in Hawthorn..
I am so glad it's my local..I will travel for cafes, I travel for coffee and finally it's come to me.
First, the coffee ..La Mazzocco machine and baristas that know how to work it.. Atomica coffee served consistently well.the baristas have all taken care with my slightly modified magic..from the first order they listened and took care to get it right.
The staff really friendly and helpful - Kevin the owner , hospital and kind.
Food good as well - a few reinvented breakfast options and great wraps or salads for lunch.. Generous servings of good quality food.
Read an earlier review about service problems on a Sunday - guess they might be ironing out a few teething problems .but the intention and sincerity and most of all the product to back it up , makes this cafe a total winner .

Awesome foods waiting for us !!. I visited with my friends n really enjoyed dishes!
It is totally awesome especially I do love sweet potato chips comes with pizza.
U have to visit there! Don't miss it !

Service needs improving. As this is walking distance for us we decided to try it for brunch on Sunday morning. The interior is rather funky and industrial and busy! We had to show the waiter where there was a vacant table for two as he indicated only outside was free. We were left waiting for 15 minutes before being given a menu, we had to ask for coffee and water for our table. We were disappointed with the lack of customer service but once the food arrived - Mr Bean and Vegetarian breakfast, we almost forgave them. The food was adventurous (Mr Bean) tasty and generous servings. We could not finish our meals and presentation was good. This restaurant has many things going for it in an area of vast competition but the customer service let it down. Although it may have very busy times the staff need to keep track of the customers and their needs, it appeared chaotic the morning we were there all staff looking busy but did not appear to be any flow to what was happening.
Given the food was tasty and a pleasant surprise we decided we will try again perhaps during the week this time and see if the experience is more enjoyable as this restaurant showed great potential.
Julia
My husband and I have been living in Melbourne for a year now and have breakfast out at least once every weekend - and this we agreed was the best so far. We ordered the chilli eggs and Finding Nemo, both were delicious and generously sized portions. The staff were really friendly too with prompt service. 10 out of 10 from us.

Great new discovery. Definitely not your run of the mill brekkie dishes. Taste great and big serves as well. Coffee excellent to round off a good experience.

No thanks. The waiter came to take my order. No greeting, no explanation of the concept behind their menu. Thought I would play it safe with a chicken salad. Wrong. Extremely over dressed chunks of iceberg lettuce, excessive amounts of creamy mayo, squares of sliced cheese (really) pale fried chicken ham and not much of anything else. Uninteresting and disappointing.

Favorite breakfast!. The wild forest with potato rosti is the best breakfast I've ever had, so much effort has gone into prep and presentation, it really shows. Been here three times now, bring people each time, they all love it!

FANTASTIC. Interesting menu, beautiful food, friendly young staff. Quirky place. Love it.

❤️️This cafe makes my mornings so special! Everyone working here is so wonderfully friendly. The coffee is a coffee snob's dream and even the artwork on the coffee is meticulously great. I am a big fan of their make your own breakfast as well, so you can order 2 eggs for $5 and have a choice of one slice of toast for $2 or 2 slices for $4 or no toast (if you just want your eggs plain on the plate or over a potato rosti or with a side of avo or bacon. Good vibe, good tea, good food.. Been dying for a decent 'local' in this area. Love the good tea options for non-coffee drinkers like myself. Also love the menu options which enable you to build your own meal. Really good quality food, tasted great, and also a lot of attention to detail in the presentation of both the meals and the café. Good casual and relaxing vibe.

Attentive and friendly service. Very chill peaceful vibe with great brekky. Good quality bacon.

Super Awesome korean fusion brunch. We found this little gem recently and I have to say its now my new favorite melbourne cafe.

we started with a coffee, they use Atomica beans and the barista had some real skill, perfect milk and a very nice coffee. followed this with lunch and had the kimchi fried rice and the chicken tofu salad.

The kimchi fried rice was amazing and was a real mix of good old fashioned home cooking and modern fusion cusine, 10 outta 10!!! the chicken salad had an amazing dressing and was absolutley delicious. this was followed by french toast and when it came out I was really impressed.

This cafe really knows how to impress with not only top quality ingriedients but the service is excellent and the atmosphere is fantastic.

honestly one of the best new places to eat in Melbourne

Eerily quiet for a Sunday morning, Mum and I strolled into Lights in the Attic for a late brunch. A bright open space, with a centrepiece of an old school espresso machine breaking up on the room, we settled on the cushioned window seats. Loving the blue theme – from the coffee machine and menus to the plates and funky lab water bottles. Love my coffee – even though I’m trying to cut down on the weekends – and how pretty is this latte art? An unusual DIY menu – I was more a fan of the specials written up on the blackboard, including this breakfast pizza. Some large slices of roti acted as a base for blue cheese, bacon and fried eggs topped with pomegranate and rocket. With blue cheese being such a bold flavour, it paired incredibly well with the breakfast items. I would’ve preferred a thicker base to retain the crispiness as the toppings were a bit heavy. A generous serve of sweet potato fries accompanied the pizza, with a sweet maple dressing. Not sure whether the dressing was for the

Lights in the Attic is one of those places that’s very easy to drive by and miss. It’s no ordinary cafe – it’s got some awesome Korean fusion going on. And the fit-out is pretty unique. It’s light and airy and makes great use of its indoor and outdoor space.

We appreciated the quality of coffee on offer and the unique menu which combined modern Australian cuisine with a Korean twist.
