Recently new to Hawthorn, had to find a new regular cafe, Social Glutton opens early enough for my morning walk, and the coffee is well priced! Great place! Consistently good coffee and friendly people! Thanks šš»
Kid friendly, great service with people who have a passion for what they do. Great food, great coffee and comfortable space. I really like the fact that the tables arenāt crammed.
Their breakfast menu is great and the portion sizes of their meals are very generous... I had a ham & cheese toastie which was delicious with a cappuccino. Nice relaxed place to have a bite for brekky or lunch.
I had an excellent breakfast on the go from The Social Glutton today. Grabbed a toasted croissant with ham, cheese and tomato and a medium takeaway coffee. I really liked the vibe as I waited for my order and the wall mural and greenery boxes impressed. Coffee was a little on the weak side for my liking but had a nice flavour so I would add a shot in next time. Croissant was attractive before it got toasted so my picture may not appeal... but trust me it hit the spot.
By far the best coffee in the area. Food is great and the staff are amazing. I thought I'd never leave my previous local cafe however this place feels right at home with the lovely customer service.
Well done, keep it up!!
Friend of mine took me to this place. We ordered Benedict and rosties. Amount is very enough. I enjoyed pretty eggs and bacon with nice souse.
Didnāt expect much about coffee, but actually latte was very good!!
Friendly service, nice wall art and atmosphere!
I would like to come back for Asian menus next time.
Been at the social glutton on the weekend.
Nice warm ambience. Staff are super friendly.
The Tobys coffee was excellent. We were a table of 5 and ordered a few different dishes of which all were well presented and super tasty. This made my weekend.
Very friendly service and helpful staff. We ordered the Barramundi salad, delicious dressing and fish cooked well, and the rosti with salmon, rosti a little bland but rest of the dish was yum. Coffee was made well but the chai was a little too sweet. Simple decor and a nice vibe for a local breakfast joint!
I'm a regular here and I love this cafe, the ambience is great, staff are always amazing and friendly. Food is served quickly and always fresh and tasty!
Never had a dish I didn't like!
Friendly staff and nice breakfast options options especiallybthe multi grain toast.
Coffee is usually good but occasionally misses the mark.
Came in on a late Sunday afternoon because nothing else was open and was pleasantly surprised. Although they didn't have any vegan options on the menu (toast or granola I wouldn't include) the chef was happy to whip something up and I was so surprised as to what I was given. A great dish of avocado with a mix of roast veggies and mushrooms on sourdough it was so delicious!! Can't wait to go back, hope they put that dish on the menu!
Nicely fitted out cafe in Hawthorn which looked a likely candidate for coffee, breakfast, and good morning conversation.
The interior has that chic industrial Melbourne feel. After the routine dose of coffee, we ordered a pretty simple breakfast of scrambled eggs, potato rosti, and hollandaise on the side - plus an egg, bacon and aioli Turkish. The food is relatively simple but also pretty sound. Balancing up the setting, food, and service, all in all a pleasant place for brunch.
Social Glutton is a popular local favourite in Hawthorn. With a relaxed and homey atmosphere and friendly service with a smile, itās always a pleasure to visit. Their menu is varied to cater for all tastes and focus on serving up unpretentious dishes to really satisfy at affordable prices. Social Glutton is not a fancy dining experience, but I always leave happy and fulfilled.
Pretty laid back and not too crowded. Coffee was good. I had the salmon stacks which was reasonable. Nothing to write home about. All in all a pretty okay cafe.
I have driven past 'The Social Glutton' on my way to few brunch spots closer to glen Ferrie station and the name has intrigued me. Today was finally the day I got a chance to try it - though I was a bit apprehensive given the range of good and bad reviews on the last few months. Let's get the bad over with - I didn't like the coffee, which was a shame as I really look forward to that weekend barista coffee that's all about flavor and enjoyment and not about desperately needing caffeine (my weekdays coffee run). I felt a tiny bit cheated. The corn fritters were solid - heaping helping of avocado, grilled capsicum relish but really barely any balsamic reduction and overall decent (but not punchy) flavors.
Onto the good - the chili / capsicumy / tomato poached eggs deliciousness! Sorry I have completely forgotten the dish's name. It came with Turkish bread (I need a bit more to mop up all the goodness) and two poached eggs. The flavor was on point - sweet, tiny bit of spice, roastey/grilled capsicum and perfectly poached eggs. It was almost too much (but I ate it all anyway!). Also the staff were super friendly and helpful!
Love that Toby's Estate Coffee. YUM!! I will be back to have more. Great place to stop quickly if in a rush. And I love that they have JUMBO size take away size, Makes long morning so much easier.
Really nice place for a chilled brunch and exceptional service with a smile. I spent a couple of hours here relaxing with a friend reading the papers, drinking nice coffee and eating breakfast, it was a great morning š
The coffee was divine. Food was delicious. Atmosphere warm and welcoming. Service fantastic. Loved my experience and will be coming back for more. Thank you !
Brunched here with my partner and we both felt that Social Glutton was a very lovely, warm, and welcoming cafe! We were greeted upon entering the cafe and were promptly seated down. We ordered our drinks and took the opportunity to look around. The graffiti mural on the wall was so pretty! I remembered back to the first time we came here and the wall was a sterile white-looking canvas, whilst the other wall was decorated with local artworks. It is lovely to see that the local artworks have remained and the other white wall has been decorated. The graffiti mural really brings in a cool vibe to the whole cafe.Ā
Inside the cafe, it is pretty spacious, so you do get to have your pick of seating. Some people were enjoying a book by the sofa at the front of the cafe, others were working away on their laptops on the communal table towards the back, and some were enjoying a coffee to themselves on the bench facing the wall. Ā This cafe comes as a breath of fresh air as most cafes around Melbourne are crowded and can sometimes get too noisy to hear your own conversations...Ā
My partner and I ordered the Bunny Chow breakfast and the Bacon eggs benedict. Our coffees came out first and were thoroughly enjoyed by us. I also ordered a soy hot chocolate (guilty of being a sweet tooth). The food arrived within 15mins of ordering and this was very reasonable wait time. Both meals were delicious and I must admit that the bunny chow is definitely a surprise and worth trying!
Overall, it was a lovely experience. Definitely a worthwhile visit :)
One of the best in Melbourne. The social glutton has fantastic coffee, delicious food made with fresh ingredients and a great ambiance. Perfect to just drop in for a good coffee and even better to sit down and grab a meal. The staff are great and the owner Wesley really makes you feel at home.
10/10 The social glutton has earned itself a regular customer!
Very extensive menu with great items, including choices not often seen at other cafes. My potato rosti stack was cooked to perfection with delicious accompaniments, coffee was great, relaxed atmosphere and reasonable prices! Would definitely recommend
Amazing service, and amazing food. The workers are so kind to those less fortunate as well. A very heart-warming experience. Can't fault them at all.
Great food, good prices. They also "payed it forward", I'll come back next time I'm in Melbourbe.
A big open space that you feel right at home in. The staff are friendly and it's one of those cafƩs that you could spend hours in. My coffee was great and I loved the big communal tables. I'm a fan!
LOVE this place!! I have come here 4 times now for breakfast and it's been great every time. The bubba is delicious and I love the potato with the capsicum relish. Friendly service would highly recommend.
Wow! What a find!. Lets start with the place. Urban, spacious and supper cool! The coffee. Bold, full flavoured and silky smooth milk! The food, seriously good!!!!! Their Bubba breakfast is devine! Perfectly poached egg on a bed of spinach, smoked salmon, crumbed feta and potato hash... Did I mention truffle oil! Simply delish, simply devine!
This place is amazing, so many options on the menu, I will be back with friends to try more! Well done Glutton!
Awesome menu. Great coffee and delicious food. New favourite cafe in hawthorn. The home made baked beans are amazing!
Divine and Delicious. The staff are wonderfully friendly and intelligent (yes I know that's a weird thing to say about a cafe, but it's lovely to be served by someone smart). The coffee is consistently great. I really like the bean brand they use. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is relaxed and happy with some interesting artwork on the walls. Overall, I would highly recommend The Social Glutton.
Great to finally have a good local breakfast joint near Hawthorn shops. Beats the hell out of Glenferrie road and trying to find a car park keep up the good service and excellent food
Breakfast with a smile :-). Not something I do to often, not something I really do at all! That is pass judgment a restaurant/cafe in a public forum about their business but this story needs to be told...
From the moment we walk in the staff greeted us with a big smile and made us feel very welcome on a busy Sat morning. Complementary water and menus followed promply and coffee ordres taken.
Great menu, huge! If you cant find something you like on this breakfast menu, you clearly arent looking hard enough! The Rosti breakfast was the oder of the day and it did not dissapoint. Two perfectly poached eggs on house made hash browns, not frozen bricks, with asparagus, roasted tomatos and smothered in a rich hollandaise sauce. Was is good?? Ohh my, SERIOUSLY GOOD! One the best breakfast I have had in a long time! Coffee was very good. Perfect temp. Tobeys Estate I was told. Not sure who they are but it was very well put together. All in all... my partner and I have never been here before but will certainly be back again,. Very impressed, this will become one of our favorites! Highly recommended.
The real deal. Its all about the coffee! And probably the best baked eggs going around! Great fit out, once an old antique shop, now a must have breaky go to place on the weekends. Staff are friendly and the barista is a magician!
Highly recommended!
Seriously Good!. New place! i undrestand its only been open for a month or so. Impressive fit out and the staff are very friendly and inviting! Now the coffee - My skinny cap was creamy, the correct temperature and just enough choclate sprinkle to have me order a second! My breakfast - Spanish broken eggs, not seen this done before and have no idea why? Absolutely devine! And cooked to perfection!
You have won me over guys, well done! And you have only been open for how long! I will be back, with friends!
New to Hawthorn. New to the area. Just moved to Hawthorn from Sydney and was told to check this place out. So glad I did! Probably the best coffee i have ever had! Smooth with choclate overtones that coat your tongue. Simply sensational! Have not had breakfast yet, looked amazing tho as i watched the waitreeses shuffle off gorgeous dishes to eagerly waiting customers. Cant wait to try their breakfast menu this week end!! :-)
Avo stack.... I have been here a couple of times, great coffee! The avo stack with a poached egg is to die for. Always very friendly service, I love that its big, bright, airy and open. Sitting at the window reading the weekend papers is a real treat! I think I will soon become a regular...
Pleasant surprise. Wow, this place is such a hidden gem! A twist of fate led us to TSG on a Sunday morning, and it's well worth the visit.
The space is airy and cheerful, which is such a nice change from the tiny, cramped cafes that usually haunt the inner 'burbs. A waitress bounded up with a couple of menus, a smile, and a "sit wherever you like." We sat at the front, near the barista action, but there's also a window bench for some people watching and a large communal table which is perfect for groups.
I wrestled with the menu, before employing the opinions of another waitress who convinced me to choose the Mediterranean eggs (poached eggs, homemade spinach and feta pastry and avocado) over the goats curd and figs on sourdough.
My partner struggled too; there are a lot of good options to choose from that steer slightly off the well-worn brekky fare path. In the end, the Spanish eggs with chorizo, goats curd, homemade tomato sauce and flash fried eggs won the day.
Great service with a smile, great food, and to top it off, we watched as the barista gave a complementary cookie to a young girl who was waiting while her mother ordered takeaway coffee. Can't wait to return!
Just discovered this place when crossing the lights, the name is a little hard to see - but do glad I did! Fantastic, perfect coffee and I only had sourdough toast (Noisette) with butter and Vegemite but even that was perfect, and generous with the soft butter and Vegemite in two nice little dishes. Hate it when they skimp on the butter or its hard as a rock! Service was lovely and the environment is fresh and spacious.
Coffee? YES PLEASE!. Cracking coffee! Best in Hawthorn! My new local for my coffee fix.
The coffee was amazing, perfectly extracted, love the coffee machine they got I have never seen 1 of those be4.
Great service & yummy food definatly a place to try!
Nice. Had the asparagus breakfast and it was full of flavour and very light! Lovely dish and place - my new local!
Glad to see another quality cafe opening up in Hawthorn, it seems there has been a bit of a renaissance in cafe dining in the last year or two with Axil, Crabapple Cafe, Huckleberry Finn, and now the social glutton. Today was my first time here. It has only opened in the last week, and I found the service very friendly and quite prompt. Coffee was nice. I had the Spanish Broken Eggs dish and it was really nice. Two poached eggs on a thick piece of sourdough, covered in a delicious Napoli sauce with little chunks of potato and capsicum, with 3-4 big pieces of chorizo placed on top. It was a reasonable size, so I thought it was good value for money. Most brunch dishes are between $14-$17.
The space is quite large, with a nice fit out. The acoustics are not too bad either.
I'll definitely be back to try more dishes.
Im a glutton!. Loving this place! Loving the coffee! Its my new local. Thank you social glutton! Highly recommended!
New kid on the block The Social Glutton is bringing a comfortable little spot to enjoy coffee and a spot of breakie, lunch or brunch! Service is friendly, the fit out is welcoming and the coffee is good! The lunch menu is backed up by the goodies at the counter, with the Glutton Slider jumping on the current trend to deliver pulled sticky pork on a toasted sourdough but Social Glutton is bringing spiced relish, gravy reduction and purple mustard coleslaw yum! However I go for the Asparagus Salad. With toasted croutons, parmesan, lemon, olive oil and a perfectly poached egg this is my perfect flavour combo. Generous, fresh and flavourful it felt like it was missing some leaves or something but it was fab! Another great new spot for Hawthorn ā Foodies rejoice!
