Review Muharam Cafe - Hawthorn

Janey Nguyen
Came for a brunch on Easter Saturday, staff was really friendly. Ordered the red velvet pancakes and it was absolutely amazing and aesthetically pleasing. Chai latte is recommended. Also tried the salmon bagel and it was fantastic. Would definitely come back! Good ambiance to relax as well

Muharam Cafe was a brunch place serving your typical Melbourne brunch food with some ethnic meals also. We ordered the chicken koththu roti and the red velvet pancakes. The Chicken koththu roti was deliciously unique with pieces of roti stir-fried into the dish. The red velvet pancakes were thin and fluffy served with chopped fresh fruit, cream cheese (wish there were more!) and chocolate sauce. Coffee was great. Service was friendly and the ambiance was cosy and quite modern.

Marissa looked after us today with a wonderful lunch and coffee. Even a short tour, as the building has some historical relivance to our family. Nothing was too much trouble!

We work down the road we wanted to try coffee at this place. Coffee 6/10 and the customer service is 0/10 the girl at the register doesn’t smile or say hi or anything we sorta just walk in order the coffee and sit down and she comes and chuck the coffee on the table with bad manners and attitude walks away. That girl is bad for the business. And her depressed attitude is just not acceptable.when we tradies there,She’s very disrespectful. But we’ve noticed that she is saying Hi to customers that are well dressed. I am thinking because we wear stained uniforms and not fancy (social status) We don’t know what’s her deal is. Either way We just stopped going there. She has that terrible attitude and disrespectful with bad manners how did she even get a job she doesn’t know how customer service…

Favorite cafe in Melbourne!! Not only is it incredibly affordable during the $11/$12 everything on the menu periods but the coffee is perfect!! Great food, great coffee! And the staff are always so friendly 😍 Sometimes when it's super busy the food can be slow but use your common sense and give it some time! 😍🥰 Favorites are the Charcoal Waffles, big breakfast and poached chicken. (I've tried everything on the menu)

Super cheap $11, food is decent portions and tastes great. Service is super lacking all three times we've been there, but they were super busy those times so I'll give them a pass. This place is SO busy, you'll have to line up at least 45 minutes on the weekend. But the food is amazing and cheap.

Wow! Amazing value and amazing food. Main dishes items have been $12 for last 4 months and the quality is easily of that priced $30+. Would definitely still eat here at twice the price. The coffee is fantastic and the dishes are quite creative. I love the eggs benny, which is served on roti bread. So yummy. Great photos on Instagram which accurately represent how the dishes actually look. Owner works here every day and is so nice. You can really see his passion for the restaurant. 11/10 would recommend. I’ve shamelessly been here 4 times in the past week.

Had to wait more than an hour to get a table. So i would not recommend going there when you are starving. Food was okay. Ordered a breakie board and the croissant was burnt, the fritter was dense and bland. The burger was pretty good, and the big breakfast as well. Coffee was great! Ordered the waffles as a sweet treat and it was not bad at all.

We visited this cafe with high hopes but were quite disappointed. When we arrived we were seated and given menus but were not offered any coffees. We waited 15 minutes while the 2 waitresses either stood behind the counter or were no where to be seen, before we had to ask if we could order. About 20 minutes later my meal and drink arrived and we waited a further 15 minutes for the other 2 meals and coffees to be served, which we were not impressed by. We also had to ask to order more drinks. The staff seemed not to care and spent their time rolling their eyes at each other behind their backs or downing tablets behind the counter in full view of everyone. On a positive note the food was delicious but unfortunately the service was absolutely terrible and we will not be returning to this cafe.

We've been here a couple of times because the location is convenient and the food is good, however the service leaves a lot to be desired. On one occasion we waited an hour and a half after placing an order for our food. The staff hadn't noticed despite it being very quiet (too busy chatting to each other) and then told us that our order had been lost and we would have to place our order again. We always have to make an effort to catch the staff's attention to place an order, after waiting patiently and despite often being the only customers in the place. Staff appear not to understand that they need to take orders and serve food. Train your staff. Will not be going here again

Food was good but honestly the shake was the worst I've had! I'm not even fussy and I couldn't even finish it! 11 bucks for a warm, zero ice cream and fake cream shake. Nope.
Daniel Wells
Food was delicious, coffee was really good. My only small suggestion would be to not have the music as loud, I basically had to yell to have a conversation. Other than that, it was really good.

Staff are most welcoming. Coffee excellent. Good selection of menu options both healthy and indulgent. The acai bowl is well presented and extremely tasty. Would definitely return

All the way from Mickleham for this 11 year/$11 experience! Funky vibe, amazingly friendly and attentive staff. Red Velvet Pancakes!!

Great service on a cold, wet Saturday. We were a large group with no booking, the staff helped us out with coffee while we waited for space to be free. And delicious food to top it off!
Elvira Reichmuth
Great food very friendly service. ✔️ Highly recommend this great cafe.

The shakes and food are good but the place is over crowded and our waitress was rude and grumpy- did not smile once. Music was loud unbearable doof doof- needs some "Billie Holiday" or something relaxing. I wish the staff was friendly and the venue had more ambience to match the quality of the food- We were turned away last week when told there was an hours wait and came back- don't think we will return :(
Vanessa Nicolas
Terrible customer service. Wasn't even greeted when a friend and I walked through. A waitress looked us straight in the eye and didn't even acknowledge us with a simple smile or have the courtesy to say "I will be with you in a minute". The barista bluntly said "can I help you" to which I said we would like a table please. Again he bluntly said "you will have to wait, I'm not sure when there will be a table". Like most really good busy places they at least acknowledge you and take your name and number and call you when a table is available. This place didn't even offer that... All the staff looked disinterested and we were made to feel like we were a nuisance and very unwelcome. So glad we didn't come back and eat there, they do not deserve my presence or my money.
Sean Harrop
Worst service ever. Waited 20min while being ignored by two staff so just left.

AMAZING!! Such good food and cute place to eat :)

3.5/5<br/>I grabbed a take away coffee from Muharam and I was impressed with the service I went back for lunch. My strong skinny latte was excellent, the Merlo coffee blend was tasty, there was some good milk froth and I really enjoyed this coffee. <br/><br/>So the following day at lunch I ordered a poached chicken sandwich w sweet potato fries.<br/><br/>The sandwich was poached chicken, avocado, English spinach, sweet honey mustard and slithered almonds. There was a lot going on in this dish.<br/><br/>The sandwich was very nice although the addition of the almonds was a little unusual for me and the sweet honey mustard was far to sweet for me.<br/><br/>But the chicken was really good and the avocado fresh. Overall I was impressed with this place and I’d happily visit again.

We’ve been to Muharams a couple of times. On out latest visit, we had the Muharam curry and slow cooked beef burger. The curry was a thai red chicken curry and it was decadent. The burger was average. Sweet potato fries were nice and hot. I appreciate the presentation and vibe they maintain. Customer service was very professional and friendly. Out of all meals, the big brekky is the star.

Easily one of my favourite cafes in the Hawthorn area. Not only was the service incredible but the food was amazing too! Also every dish is only $12!<br/>We ordered the famous red velvet pancakes- and now I can definitely see why they are so popular ! They were sweet but not too sweet, and the fresh berries helped to balance out all the flavours. We also got the mexican bowl which I added smoked beef too- this had such a good flavour and everything was super fresh and tasty. I also tried one of chicken/roti dishes which was basically a chopped up version of chicken and roti and this was also a delicious combo of flavours. <br/>I would definitely recommend trying out this place already because $12 for every item is such an amazing deal

Been to this place a couple of times, as I work across the street. This place is usually busy at noon during the week, but the wait is totally worth it. Since I've been here many times, I've tried most of the dishes off the menu. Would highly recommend trying the Red Velvet Pancakes as they are absolutely delicious. For savoury, I love the Muharam Curry and Chciken Risotto, could have that every day if I wasn't a good cook. The service is quite friendly and always welcoming, which makes the whole experience more than satisfactory!

The food was amazing value for money. $12 for generous portion sizes. There was so much flavour in both the dishes we got and the smoothie was absolutely incredible! The tofu burger was everything you want in a veggie burger and more. The patty was incredible! Would have liked a bit more sauce but all the flavours were there! The bowl was nice with a good combination of ingredients. Just need more of a sauce for it as it felt a little try.
@foodtom
My burger was fit & extremely tasty. I built a custom burger like usual and threw a hash brown into it. The meat was cooked perfectly and was incredibly tasty.

Friends and I went out for lunch. One friends food had a black hair in it and the other found a large sharp piece of plastic from possible a container that she had nearly swallowed. Owner was unprofessional, unapologetic and was unbothered as if it was a daily occurrence for this cafe. Went to the bathroom and the state of the hallway and kitchen was appalling - what looked like to be black mould was surrounding skirtings and walls weren’t in better shape. Did offer to refund the meals that were contaminated but no apology from owner directly. Not sure how this place is still open, or if they will be for much longer.

Delicious tacos and very filling!

Love the special prices on the menu. I came hearing a special $12 for all items on the menu.<br/><br/>It was my first time coming here and I was surprised how many people there were. The cafe was very small and limited seating space. It was not a pretty cafe, very white with some plants for decorate.<br/><br/>The staff was very friendly and welcoming. However, the food service was slow. I think there may be a few people in the kitchen. I waited 30 minutes for meal.<br/><br/>The food all came out looking beautiful and tasty. I order a tofu burger, asking it not to be spicy. However, when I ended up having a slightly spicy burger. The tofu patty was not actually tofu but a type of meat substitute. It was delicious and filling with soft sweet potato fries on the side.<br/><br/>My mum had the chicken sandwich. It looked very healthy and fresh, poached chicken with avocado and other veggies. My mum enjoyed it.<br/><br/>I wouldn’t mind coming again for their special prices.

Our reason for first choosing Muharam was due to their $12 every meal promotion.<br/><br/>We had a large group with us (11 people) meaning we had to wait around 10-15 minutes until we could get some seats, Muharam does not have the option of booking tables. <br/><br/>The ambience of the cafe was simple but cute, had lots of pot plants to add to the feeling. The interior lived up to the 21st-century need of cafes being “aesthetic,” with the help of the white colour scheme and brick wall. <br/><br/>The menu had a wide variety for both sweet and savoury, we had vegetarians with us and they had no issue in finding a meal for themselves. Price wasn’t on our minds due to all the dishes being $12, a great marketing scheme! <br/><br/> All of us ordered different dishes, eager to try everything they had to offer. However, the dish that collectively won our hearts was the Red Velvet Pancakes! Served up looking Instagram-worthy with a small jug of melted chocolate to pour on them, the pancakes are definitely the face of the cafe. Not to mention it tasted like heaven. If you decide to go to Muharam you can not leave without trying their Red Velvet Pancakes. <br/><br/>Other notable dishes included any the sweet potato fries that came along with the burger dishes, we all agreed it was the best sweet potato fries ever. <br/><br/>However we didn’t vibe with their milkshakes (we tried Nutella and Caramel), kind of killed the buzz of the food, their price didn’t help their case, maybe pass up on them.

If you are trying to lose weight, go here because they forget to serve the food! Won’t go back

Friendly staff but be prepared for long wait to 1) order your food 2) get your food 3) get the attention of wait staff. Ordered the eggs benny roti with salmon + 10 hour cooked beef burger. Didn’t get my salmon but was so hard to get the attention of staff so ate it anyway. Both dishes bland and not impressive. Won’t be back. Sorry.

📍Location: 97 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn <br/>🖼Ambience: Refined brekkie and international light lunches in a rustic-chic hangout with a cosy courtyard.<br/>👩🏻‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳Staffs: Friendly and approachable <br/>☕️🥧🥙Food: Its a must go place for breakfast and light lunches. So we had ordered the following:<br/>1. Two Chai Lattes, these looked lovely but i would suggest can keep the consistency of the taste since i liked it the first time but not the 2nd and 3rd as much the 1st time.<br/>2. Red Velvet Pancakes with cream cheese, strawberries & warm chocolate , trust me this is the show stopper and i would go for only having this a zillion times.Amazing idea and lovely deco!<br/>3.Black Buckwheat Waffles with activated charcoal, maple glazed bananas, pitaya cashew cream, coconut ice cream and pistachio crumble, this was a lovely idea and tasted good but not as expected, the waffles was for some reason tasted a little tangy but it goes well when combined with the ice cream and bananas.<br/>✅Overall: 4/5 rating! Must go !

The good: great coffee<br/>The bad: the food. Had pea and mint toast, with chilli and eggs. The hummus tasted like the cheap supermarket variety, and the eggs were had a very odd flavour. Left the plate half full.

Cute little brunch place easily accessible by tram or train! Brunch has never been a huge love for me but this place changed that for me! The price is also very reasonable<br/><br/>Tried the big breakfast and charcoal pancakes which were presented very well. Taste wise was not a let down either! Also tried chicken bao although not as good as the other two, was still great to try. <br/>If not there is a wide range to choose from on the menu from sweet to savoury. <br/><br/>Staff are friendly and there is a great vibe from the place. Perfect for a weekend morning!

An intimate cosy space in amongst the hustle & bustle! <br/>I absolutely LOVE the food here at Muharam! I enjoyed a delicious hearty porridge & it was spot on perfect 👌🏽<br/><br/><br/>| B I G B R E A K F A S T | 💪🏽👏🏼🍳🍴<br/>@muharamcafe .<br/>This dish certainly lives up to its name 😏 the eggs were such a light/fluffy consistency which were a real highlight in my eye! Any cafe whom can nail the basic's (eggs) is one to defiantly look out for!! 👏🏼<br/>Having said that the hash brown was crispy on the outside with a steamy hot middle which was a perfect accompaniment! <br/><br/><br/>If you love your Avo don't fret, as there is literally half of one to get through on your plate. The mushrooms and spinach were sautéed beautifully and had a great flavour running through them! Can't pick out a negative! <br/>And the bacon portion is HUGE 😜😜<br/>GO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! It's great 😋😋😋😋😋<br/><br/>| P O R R I D G E | 🍴👏🏼<br/>@muharamcafe <br/>With. Caramelised poached pear + chai custard & walnut crumbled! <br/>One word to describe this dish = beautiful. <br/>Not only was this dish aesthetically pleasing on the eye, the amount of flavour the chef was able to compact into this bowl is something to be commended on 👏🏼👏🏼 the crunch from the crumble was buttery and so yummy, the chai custard gave this dish some clarity and refinement. Oats and chai are a match in heaven 👼🏼 and that's where I literally went when I ate this 😍😍 I thought I wasn't going to get through it all, however it's the perfect size!

This place’s $11 menu was the reason we came in the first place. The pea and basil crepes I ordered were incredibly bland (would not recommend) I also found their smashed avo to be very disappointing as the avocado was brown and the portion of halloumi was very skimpy. Service was also slow. Despite the cheap dishes on offer I will not be returning.

Great menu, awesome coffee, friendly service, good prices. Very vegan, gluten free and dairy free friendly place that I have no fear of bringing friends who have food intolerances to as they’ll be spoilt for choice too! Busy vibe but not at the expense of attentive service.

This place is a BLAST 🙌<br/><br/>I came in with a friend because I had seen that they had all their meals for $11 and that the menu sounded very promising. And it overcame all expectations!<br/><br/>The venue was quite busy when I arrived and we had to wait around 40 minutes to be sat down but it was so worth it. They kindly gave us the option is waiting inside the venue next to the entrance and the waitresses were extremely friend and welcoming at all times.<br/><br/>Once they had a spot for us and we got a chance to order, here’s what we got:<br/><br/>- Acai smoothie bowl: honestly the taste was just perfect perfect perfect. Definitely a good portion for a serving and the toppings were good too. Consistency was on point and it was overall a damn 👏good👏bowl. Nothing else to add here - good food doesn’t need many words, just a big old spoon 😂<br/><br/>- Black buckwheat waffles: this was definitely the highlight of our brunch! The black colour definitely takes the waffles to a next level and not only is the food very aesthetic and beautifully presented, but the taste was impressive too l! The consistency was soft with a touch of crunchiness and the pistachio crumble and coconut ice-cream mixed in the combo smoothly. I would say that the whole dish is perfectly achieved and the serving is very generous too.<br/><br/>I had an amazing time visiting this place and I had the most difficult time choosing what I wanted from the menu because ALL their options sound incredible. They have so many allergen and vegan options that it’s hard to pick just one. I know I NEED to get back to get some proper shots and try many other options from the menu! 😍👌

Came here during the 11$ special deals. Service was okay, they got our order wrong with the chips. Chai latte was horrible, way too bitter. The curry and bowl had great flavour though

I have tried quite a few meals here since they are only $11 and some are amazing, some not so amazing.<br/>The big breakfast is REALLY good! So much food for so cheap. The red velvet pancakes are nice, as is the breakfast burger. The chicken bao are not nice at all, very bland with quite hard bao. But can’t really complain for $11.<br/>Overall a really nice cafe and great value!

How amazing is the service, decor and price at this cafe! <br/><br/>I’ve been a few times and all the food has been so lovely. <br/><br/>I recently went to the $11 vegan night and was so impressed with the range of yummy dishes available. So cheap and so filling too! <br/><br/>I had the Mexican bowl and my friend had the spicy tofu burger. <br/><br/>Sooooo goooood!
Lachlan Bewicke
Value for money and good service. Doesn't get much more simple than that. Portion size is excellent considering it's $11, and the staff are very friendly.
Sare (@crunch.to.brunch)
The cafe that got me on my smoothie and acai bowl train! Even better with their $11 menu! Great food, but get in early as it gets busy quite quickly!

I went to this cafe with my partner to try out the $11 menu. Overall, I was reasonably happy with my experience, but I won't be rushing back. We ordered the Big Brekkie, Matcha Hotcakes and Mexican Bowl, with a Nut-tellin' shake and a flat white. The big brekkie and mexican bowl were good. On the other hand, our matcha hotcakes were disappointing. The ice cream had melted into the hotcakes by the time we got them, and the hotcakes were cold. I am not sure what happened, but the taste and condition of the dish felt as though it had been left out for a while before being served. The nutella shake was good, but on instagram it has a little brownie on it which was not on the real thing. Neither of these issues were significant given the price we paid, but I would rather go somewhere and pay more for fresh food that has all the same ingredients as pictured on their social media.
Kimmy_desu
Saw on their Instagram page that their $11 for all dishes has not ended yet so we decided to come for brunch today. Ordered three dishes between the two of us and the waiter was a bit surprised... Sharing is caring! We had a dish each and shared the açaí bowl. I chose the Mexican bowl and my sister originally wanted the red velvet pancakes but it wasn’t available at the time, so she switched to curry rice. The food didn’t take too long to come as there weren’t any other customers (we chose to come around 2pm as it’d be past the lunch hour peak). Surprisingly my Mexican bowl wasn’t as great as I had expected. The ingredients were fresh and colorful but the entire thing tasted a little bland, even after adding pepper and a splash of lemon. On the other hand my sister’s curry rice was amazing and so delicious that I kept stealing her food! It was very flavorsome and the portion size was also big. A real bang for the buck at $11. Açaí bowl was okay but didn’t like the big blob of peanut butter in it (saw on the menu that it was one of the ingredients but didn’t expect it to be such a huge blob, and it made the overall taste a bit weird, maybe just not to my liking). Would have liked to try more dishes but that’d have to wait till next time!

Food Rating: 😀3.5/5<br/>Atmosphere Rating: 4/5<br/>Service Rating: 3/5<br/>Note that I went in 2018, when they were still offering their $11 menu. <br/><br/>Muharam offers what every other cafe offers in Melbourne - but I could not miss up on the opportunity to go out for an $11 brunch. There was a 30 minute wait before being seated (most probably due to their popularity in 2018 with their $11 deal!) when we went around 12pm.<br/>Ordered the Big Breakfast with scrambled eggs and it was great! <br/>Although all the different elements shared the same flavours (none were really seasoned with anything other than salt), and the dish was on the slight saltier side, the eggs were done amazingly. The portion sizes were generous as well.

Nice food quality for a good price, and also friendly stuffs. Unfortunately the pancake which my mom wanted to try was not served in the afternoon, and the ice coffee was a little bit thin for her, but other food were tasty and worth the price, we are definitely happy to come here again:))

Came here for lunch and had the cheese burger which came with a side of chips for $11... it was all fairly nice and the meat was cooked fine but didn't leave me with an urging desire to rush back... I think it's good value for money if you want a fairly average lunch.
Madam E The Vegan
This review is for their Thursday vegan night in November - which I hope all the dishes make it on the permanent menu! I had the eggplant baos and omg - amazing! I could’ve eaten at least 10 of them! The spicy burger - fantastic! It’s not your typical veggie burger (that falls apart mid burger) instead it’s a soy based and has a great texture and doesn’t fall apart. But it’s very spicy and could be toned down a bit. The vegan black waffles with the coconut ice cream - delectable! Overall great atmosphere, very friendly staff and great simple pricing ($11 per dish)! Hoping this cafe goes all vegan. Thanks!

Just as well the meals are only $11, I would not pay full price at this place, terrible atmosphere - rap music up so loud that cannot hear myself think, let alone have a conversation with my husband across the table, we were literally shouting at each other just to hear! Waitress could not even hear my coffee order either, and then didn’t know what a ‘piccolo’ was, seriously?? Food was average but inability to have a conversation was inexcusable. Suffice to say I will not be coming back!

Rate: 4.0/5 (2018 for $11 menu)<br/>☆彡 came here today (sunday) 12:00 lunch. There was already a line! Go inside and write your name down! Waited about 15mins. We ordered: pumpkin 4 ways, vegan bao, cheeseburger (comes with curly chips). All $11<br/><br/>☆The good:<br/>- everything is generous in portion (not limited, just because it’s $11) <br/>- this $11 menu is well and truly WORTH IT. Especially cheeseburger (big portion, and lots of chips, very filling according to my guy friend). <br/>- pumpkin 4 ways is so creative and fried pumpkin is delicious. They give ample quinoa and it’s complemented well with pumpkin seeds & puree<br/>- staff are very warm and kind, allowed me to move to bigger table and were not pushy with us leaving even after we finished eating :)<br/>- the menu is MY FAVOURITE with a HUGE diversity of tasty all day breakfast & lunch menu (including vegan, non-veg options)<br/><br/>☆ Not so good:<br/>- quite popular so there may be a line<br/>- food can take long to get here<br/><br/>☆彡 Overall, definitely coming back.

What a bargain this cafe is at the moment with $11 meals!! Fritters were good, their haloumi was amazing! Pancakes were so good!! A lot smaller than they look in the photos but awesome!

The food here is absolutely wonderful, and I was delighted to see that they had vegan waffles on the menu! The food is colourful and super tasty, and at $11 per dish it's a great value. However, it took quite a while for us to get the food, the staff didn't pay much attention to us once we had received the food either when we tried to ask them for a box to take our left overs in. The bathroom was a bit dirty and the music was so loud that it was hard to hear what people were saying. (*sponsored/free meal)

3.5 of 5<br/>I had a great experience at this Middle-Eastern influenced cafe. I ordered one of their breakfast boards, which has a few samplings of everything. Everything was good, especially the fritter with avo, poached egg and accompanying capsicum salsa. The granola ws yummy, too. The mini-croissant was average.<br/><br/>Good coffee.<br/><br/>The place is modern, clean lines and decor, and very vibrant.<br/><br/>Some of the staff were really friendly, but others were totally the opposite. I visited late in the day, so it might be tiredness.
Living Melbourne
Experienced amazing customer service, seated in the front courtyard. I ordered pancakes which were filled with Nutella! Great atmosphere would highly recommend.

I’ve read about this place and it’s $11 menu up to December of this year. I made sure to come in at a time that wouldn’t be busy because I drove pass this place during the weekend and it was packed! Rightly so, you won’t find all these dishes for so cheap elsewhere!<br/>Presentation wise, it’s spot on. The ‘Acai Smoothie Bowl’ was easy and delicious to eat. The ‘Black Buckwheat Waffles’ lacked a bit. There needed to be something that stood out flavour wise… maybe if the cashew cream was replaced with a stronger flavour like raspberry or something, that would help. The drinks were nice too. <br/>On another note, I realised after going home that either we were overcharged by 50 cents or the menu was incorrect or there is a surcharge when paying by card (not stated anywhere on the menu or near the cash register). Clearly this is not a big deal, especially when the food is cheap, but I have to admit I do feel a little cheated when I’ve paid for something that wasn’t written on the menu…<br/>** NOTE: No split bills and no further discounts.

My personal experience at this cafe won’t be bringing me back, however I won't discourage anyone else from going to try it out themselves! Read on if you’d like :)<br/><br/>| MY EXPERIENCE | <br/><br/>We were so excited try this $11 cafe that we drove almost an hour to get there, it was crazy busy and after standing around for a while I went up to a waitress and asked if we could get on the waitlist, she didn’t tell me how long but just told me to sit down (A “Hi! How are you” would have been nice, as well as an estimated wait time). <br/><br/>We then proceeded to wait 40 minutes for a table….. and once our table was ready we waited even longer because the waiters forgot to tell us! However during this process we did get to chat and meet a lovely woman who I presumed was one of the owners. She did apologise for the wait and took us to our table.<br/><br/>I was S T A R V I N G by this point about to eat my own foot tbh… so naturally we ordered a lot. And our first meal (the roti with crumbed egg) was yummy! I love how they put their own culture into the dish by adding a roti. But thats where it ended…. BECAUSE THEY FORGOT OUR OTHER DISHES! I was so upset I didn’t get to try their waffles or the sides we ordered… no compensation was given and we just got up, paid and left. The owner apologised and again she seems lovely, but our personal experience overall saw service that needs to be more attentive / aware. We were so disappointed because we traveled so far for something that was just not worth it.

Been there with my girlfriend a couple of months ago to enjoy the $11 offer.<br/>I had a salad which was to be honest looking like an addition on different veggie tins. Was absolutely tasteless.<br/>My girlfriend had the fritters which was tasteless as well. Was looking like the patty you can buy at Coles or Woolies.<br/>The dude from the staff was nice. It's the only good thing I could tell about this place.

If you haven’t been to Muharam yet, now is the time to do it. All breakfast dishes on the menu are currently $11 for the year to celebrate their 11th anniversary.<br/><br/>Muharam is a cosy cafe located along Burwood Road in Hawthorn. I was fortunate on the morning I visited I didn’t have to wait more than 10 minutes to be seated. However as the morning went on the line out the front started to grow. I recommend that you come early if you don’t want to wait long.<br/><br/>Feeling like something savoury we opted for the smashed avo with added poached eggs and the big breakfast. I had the smashed avo, overall it wasn’t bad however I would have preferred a crunchy sourdough rather than the chia loaf this dish came with. <br/><br/>My sister had the big breakfast which included eggs of your choice, bacon, mushrooms, avocado, spinach & rosti. I thought this offered great value for $11.<br/><br/>Overall we didn’t mind our dishes however next time I’d be interested in trying out their sweet options.<br/><br/>Ordinarily I’d rate Muharam 3.5 ⭐️ out of 5, however I’ve added an extra 0.5 because of the current promotion. Therefore I give Muharam ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5.

I’m so disappointed, this place has so much potential. Ordered the big breakfast and found two pieces of hair in my mushrooms..... when it read “Rosti” they mean a hash brown from the freezer... hopefully feedback will be taken on board and we might be happy to come back to try the other dishes

Came here with friends to enjoy a $11 brunch.<br/>It gets pretty busy quite quickly and also the food does take a while so definitely keep these in mind before coming.<br/><br/>We got Acai bowls and Black waffles.<br/>The Acai bowls were good but nothing special.<br/>The black waffles were also ot that special either. The flavours were not that exciting as it was mainly flavored and sweetened by maple syrup.<br/><br/>But I am giving this place 4 stars as it was pretty good considering it is $11.

There was not a lot to choose from on the menu. But the dishes did have a relatively decent sizing and had nice flavour. Service was slow, but it could be due to peak period. However one of my dishes was totally forgotten about and staff was trying to rush us out.
Abbey
Food was good and can’t complain about $11 each per dish! The disappointment was the slow service and the super loud atmosphere: music + lots of people in a small space wasn’t pleasant unfortunately.

Ok lets start with the price, I mean this is how much brunch should be $11 for every meal on the menu that is amazing. The food was really good for the price tag. The first time i went i was only waiting outside for like 5 minutes although the second couple of times it has been a bit longer. With that said the food did come out very quickly with amazing service. I don't mind waiting for a seat at a great cheap restaurant. I wish there was more places like this out there.
Quince And Cheese
First of all, every main meal on the menu is $11 ALL YEAR LONG. If that's not enough reason to stop by, the vegan waffles are. They're so fluffy and toppings work great together- fresh, sweet but not overly so, and relatively light. They have a slightly gummy texture, but that's pretty standard from a vegan waffle. It usually comes as a result of the binder (probably flax).<br/><br/>I also tried the corn fritters (veg option with haloumi) which are sort of like a corn pancake. They're sweet but balanced well by the chutney, avo and cheese. Last note is that staff were so friendly, even taking the time to banter when we were the last people in the cafe. Would go back for sure.

Coming here knowing that I should not expect too much for $11 brunch, I still feel a little bit disappointed. <br/>First of all the shop is cute, but it's quite small. I would not recommend coming here with a group, 2 is enough. <br/>Me and my friend thought that the Breakky board and the Velvet pancake would come in small size so we ordered 3 dishes, and ended up not being able to finish all haha. Their Big Breakfast was really that bug and worth more than $11 guys. <br/>I don't like their smashed avo at all, too sour idk why. Their pancakes should be a lot softer, but the cream cheese comes together is nice anyway. <br/>Basically there is nothing special about the food, except the price. So come here if you wanna have brunch on low budget, that's all.

Heard about the 11 year celebration, and everything on the menu is $11. The food is not discounted at all, friendly staff and attentive to customers. I am happy with my brekkie board. Very busy place so please come early otherwise you will stand in a queue. Great experience.
Leila
Eggs benny was a bit different and unexpected in taste, but I liked it. Big breakfast was not bad either, especially for 11 dollars year round it’s great value. The space was tight packed though, almost uncomfortably so, and the red velvet pancakes were out by the time we got there.
Kerrie Williamson
great value for $11 loved the flavour of panko eggs and beetroot relish great customer service , coffee and tea nothing special nice though will definitely be back too check out lunch menu a hidden gem in hawthorn

There has been a hype around this cafe because it has been offering $11 dishes all year round, yes, how cheap! 😱 We ordered the Acai smoothie bowl 🍓, red velvet pancakes 🥞 and big breakfast bowl🥓. Do not be fooled by the pictures as the portions are quite big! We did not manage to finish everything and this seemed to be the case for others as well. My tip is to not over estimate how much you can eat and order more later on if there is not enough. Overall the dishes were nothing mindblowing. It is a lot for $11 and very worth it if you want to brunch on a budget! 🤑 However, if you want a decadent brunch, then this is not the place for you!
Perry
Came here yesterday around 12 with my friend. Lots of people here cause every dish will be 11 bucks which is pretty cheap aye. <br/><br/>I had Black Buckwheat Waffles and it’s so yum plus it’s gluten free and vegan 🌱 My friend had her Mexican bowl which is very nice too and it’s vegan 🌱 <br/><br/>Hopefully they could have more vegan dishes 👌🏻
PastaOnMyGooch
*Official PastaOnMyGooch rating without prejudice*<br/><br/>Things that tingled my Gooch:<br/>-big portion sizes, unlike some of the cafes nearby<br/>-everything for $12, incredible value. Showing the inflated prices of the standard cafe in Melbourne. Muharam deserve a big pat on the Gooch for going against the trend of rising prices.<br/>-efficient and friendly service <br/>-considering the lines out the door, the head of Gooches at muharum runs a tight ship. <br/>-Not a hipster or vegan seen nearby. <br/>-good vibes, rnb superclub inside<br/>-overall a younger crowd, great to see no crying babies or annoying gremlins running around.<br/><br/>Things that left me scratching my Gooch:<br/>-$12 a meal, how can any other cafe charge $22 for a big breakfast for the same quality.<br/>- <br/><br/><br/>Cheeky Gooch note:<br/>- IGA and two bakerys across the road. <br/><br/>The final Gooch :<br/>4.5/5.0

Poor service, the staff were not very friendly and the food had hair and a few eggshells. Pancakes were a little undercooked. Overall, I ordered the eggs Benedict and red velvet pancakes.

I came here with a friend after knew their $11 menu deal. We came at 1 pm but the cafe still packed, it might because their small capacity but we didn’t wait for long to get table. I was think to try their famous red velvet pancake but unfortunately it run out already so I moved to black waffles and my friend have breakky board. We were waited for about 30 mins for our food. My black waffle looks nice but I prefer they put the maple syrup in a small jug, the waffle itself could be little bit sweet. My friend’s breakky board was in small portion of each bits. I think the food worth for $11. We still left hungry after finished our food but wasn’t bad experience to try $11 all menu.

I guess this place has become quite popular due to their $11 meals. I went here in a group, at around 10:30am, by which time is was already packed, so head early if you are in a large group. The cafe itself is quite nice, so if you want to take brunch photos, it is a good location.<br/>I got the red velvet pancakes, which were filling; i found the chocolate sauce to be too sweet. I’ve had better pancakes, but they are pretty. So overall worth 11$ but not if they cost more
Food Junkie
Came here after seeing their promotion of $11 for all of their dishes. Put our name down and waited around 40min. It’s a very small cafe and luckily we weren’t starving. <br/>Ordered matcha latte but they ran out of matcha. Then I got a standard latte, which taste like a coffee flavoured milk. Please order strong coffee if you are serious about your coffee. <br/>I ordered the big breakfast and my friend ordered the corn fritters. Not sure if you can see it from the picture, but underneath the top layer of bacon is 3 pieces of Super burnt bacon (no not crispy bacon, but burnt). The spinach is drenched in oil, the potato rosti is oily and I had to use the slice of bread to soak all of the dripping oil and left it. Avocado is super tangy to borderline bitter. <br/>They need to keep their integrity despite the special price.
Kylie
Since it's the 11th year anniversary every brunch and lunch item is $11 right now. We were seated at a table for four (when we had five people) so it was a little tight, and there was a lack of wait staff, so service was slow and our request for a cappucinno was lost. However the food was great and in a good quantity. I ordered the cheeseburger. The meat was tender and chunky, and the curly fries were cripsy and crunchy.

UPDATE<br/>If you like "sweet" menu than your $11.00 can't go wrong, however if you like "savoury" than probably not the place to go.<br/>My Fritter was frozen, reheated, dry and served burnt, yes, first world issue, then again it is Melbourne, we can't be serving those in the cafe capital of the world. <br/>Kitchen needs attention. JT-11/09/2011<br/><br/>PREVIOUS<br/>The long QUEUE must be for their $11.00 food ...<br/><br/>A bunch of hipster looking "youngen" hanging about in the front of this cafe, be it weekdays or weekends ... must be the cool thing in town ... or it is the first month of the year in the Islamic calendar - Muharam ... curiosity.<br/><br/>So we've decided to go this arvo after lunch across the street for some sweets and coffee, the line has subsided, went inside, a mini La Marzocco on a small bench, super friendly girl in the counter behind the espresso and no wonder with the queue ... as the place is so quaint, less than 16 seats inside, was offered the Courtyard at the back, but it was a little chilly. <br/>Plain tone interior showcased by Scandi inspired chairs, smart yet ever so simple.<br/><br/>Take away coffee then; be it 1 x weak latte, 3 x latte, 1 x soy latte and 1 x Chai latte were average, all about $28.00, not impressive ...<br/><br/>I guess it's their $11.00 food, best price in town fir brunch ... which we shall go back and try ... JT-24/06/2018.

How you can pass up to celebrate its 11th birthday?!! açai bow was very tasty. The pancakes and donut Nutella shake were both tasty as well. The service was friendly, only down side is the size of the venue, maybe time to expand? :)

Always have exceptional food here. All of the staff are incredibly friendly. If you show up and it’s super busy (which it always is) be patient, it’s worth the wait!!
Brunch Enthusiast
How can you pass up $11 lunch!? <br/>Really enjoyed my time here, the wait was about 20mins but was expected as it was a Saturday and the food is $11 for anything on the menu! <br/>So why not have two meals right! <br/>I got the açai bowl and the breakfast salad - kale, quinoa, eggs and haloumi with a banana smoothie 🙌🏽<br/>Very happy with my food and beverage! <br/>Super flavoursome <br/>Staff were friendly <br/>The only down side is the size of the cafe it is fairly small with how popular it is. <br/>Would come back 🙌🏽
Alicia
Honestly, this place was great. The food was great, especially for $11. <br/>Personally, I feel that a typical serving size is too big for me in most restaurants, and I felt that this serving size (tad bit smaller than usual) was perfect. And most definitely worth $11. The food tasted and looked good. We ordered the brekky board, and the Mexican bowl. We also got the red velvet pancakes and the spiced sweet corn fritters.
Sanj Tanya
I love this place! I paid $11 for my brunch meal and it was just delicious! I got the Eggs Benedict which came on a roti bread and it was so filling and delicious! Would go back for more!!!

We had a girls’ day out for brunch here a while ago. Tried the pancakes and donut Nutella drink which were good. Heard they have $11 deals now so definitely worth checking out!
Little Picky Very Hungry
In order to celebrate its 11th birthday, Muharam Cafe has lowered everything on the menu down to $11 ONLY!!!😱😱😍 And guess what!? This generous offer runs throughout the year. Woo-hoo🎉<br/>.<br/>RED VELVET PANCAKES is my absolute favourite!! Love the cream cheese on top of it, good pair with all the berries and the warm hot chocolate. The presentation was lovely too ❤️<br/>.<br/>BLACK BUCKWHEAT WAFFLES with activated charcoal, maple glazed bananas and pitaya cashew cream🖤 I find it too doughy and chewy, not soft like a waffle should be. Also, tasteless! 😑 If I am blindfolded, I wouldn’t have known it was a waffle. Such a big disappointment, luckily we didn’t pay $19 for this.<br/>.<br/>The BIG BREAKFAST was well done, the downside was the portions👄⬇️ I wish it was bigger as it’s ‘Big’ breakfast not ‘medium size’ breakfast. But it’s still good value!💰💰<br/>.<br/>Overall the food was ok, staff were lovely. Just wasn’t sure if I would come back after the $11 deal is off 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♀️
Danielle Sam
We went here for the $11 deal on a Tuesday to avoid cues. We got a table straight away and food didn’t take too long. I ordered the fritters and my partner ordered Benedict. The fritters looked delicious, however they were all burnt and that’s all I could taste. The haloumi was also burnt, and it was the first time I’ve ever not finished haloumi. <br/>My partners Benedict came out and we had to look inside the roti to check if all the ingredients were included as the plate was so sparse. <br/>Not worth the time or money!!! <br/>The chai latte was good.
SJFU
We came for the $11 special they have going on until the end of the year. I think the price is great but a 45 minute wait for sorta average food wasn’t too fair. My salad was tasty though a bit wet with the halloumi not cooked properly. The waffles were an odd chewy texture though the chocolate coconut ice cream was delicious. The pancakes were just alright. The service was friendly but seemed overrun.

Muharam has always been my favourite cafe to go to. Their food has surpassed expectations almost every time. However with their anniversary offer of $11 I am sad to say that their quality has dropped a little. A week ago, a friend and I ordered the açai bowl and the sweet corn fritters, of which the açai bowl was yummy (definitely try it if you haven’t already) but the fitters was a let down. <br/><br/>We did inform the staff that they were undercooked in the politest manner (making sure not to upset the waitress or demean the chefs cooking skills) but I overheard the waitress say that my friend was being nasty about the food.<br/><br/>Our dish was replaced, but the quality was the same. Disappointing. That said, i absolutely loved the açai bowl and everything else on their menu has always been amazing every other visit and I will definitely keep going back
Kellynguyendp
Came on a Saturday around 1:30 we ordered two meals, the Big Breakfast and the Red velvet pancakes; asked for poached eggs but the eggs came out as hard boiled eggs. The pancakes were cold, hard and very tough. The range of coffee was very limited.
Mansoor Walli
On arrival we were told it will take 10 minutes for a table but 45 minutes later we will still not seated and eventually had to sit outside in the courtyard in cold. Food was good but not worth the long wait. I understand it was a busy time but the wrong expectation was set at the start about the wait time. If you are a party more than 4 be ready to wait or consider other options.
Amysyder
This cafe has an amazing deal on at the moment! Every dish is $11 for the rest of the year. Me and some friends came here for brunch because we heard about this and was not disappointed! The cheaper price is not reflected in the quality and taste of the food, it is still amazing! I had the vegan waffles, it was so lovely to go to a cafe for brunch that had something one the menu to satisfy every dietary requirement! I was especially happy that for once the only dairy free and vegan option wasn’t an açai bowl (I do love them but sometimes I crave pancakes and waffles)! The staff were friendly, it had a lovely atmosphere and great decor! however it was very busy but this is to be expected. The only issue we had was that one of our brunch items got delivered to the wrong table and so we had to wait a while till everyone had their meal! Apart from this we all walked away saying we would visit this place again!
ToFeedTwo
Came here for a Sunday brunch and it was a 1 hour and 20 minute wait for a table. We were a group of 4 people and at this point were unaware they were doing the $11 breakfast deal. We did notice that when two sets of two left, rather than join the tables together, they allocated the tables to the groups of two that had not been waiting as long as us. <br/><br/>Upon finally getting a table we ordered the big breakfast, Spiced Sweetcorn Fritters w/ added bacon, the Mushroom Bruschetta w/ added halloumi and the Smashed Avo w/ added halloumi. The meals tasted better than how they were presented but it wasn’t the greatest brunch we have had. Due to how busy the cafe was, I can only assume it wasn’t up to scratch. <br/><br/>One hour into our brunch we were told we would have to leave due to a booking. What was ironic, was I tried to book a table through Zomato and it wouldn’t work and I also called the venue a couple of times to make a booking. Left a message on one of those occasions to never have heard back.
Jpm26
Great coffee and food. Long wait for a table, but very much worth it, especially considering the $11 meal prices at the moment. Not from the area, but it’s my go to spot when around Hawthorn ☺️
Lilly Hooper
The staff are so friendly! I loved the coffee, very nice. The food is delicious but there aren’t enough vegan options. Would go back in a heartbeat, great location near the tram stop.
Clare Marray
The waitress forgot to put my order in and I had to wait 30 minutes for everyone else on my tables food to arrive to find out they didn’t put my order in. The manager never came to apologise to me and told the waitress if I wanted to make my order I would have to wait another half an hour for my food to come. In the end they still made me pay for my coffee and didn’t apologise or compensate for their wrong. The food was nice but I didn’t get to enjoy it myself.
Chloe
I haven’t been here in a while, but when I saw the 11 dollar menu I saw my day off as a sign I should revisit! It is quite a small place so we were told it would be a 20 mins wait which actually turned out to be 10 mins :). I ordered the smashed Avo while my sister ordered the chicken sandwich and mango smoothie. The food was good although the smashed Avo was a bit plain ... We also had to wait 45 minutes for our food. The smoothie was great though! The food overall was nice but don’t plan on a quick meal! 😂
Jules D
The staff were super lovely but seem frazzled as the food took forever considering when we placed our order there was only one other table ( of food bloggers who took over the space to get “the perfect shot” #twats ) food was fine but nothing to return for. Overall nice but nothing overwhelming
The_littlehungrylife
One of my favourite cafes! This place was welcoming, spacious and the staff is so attentive. The food is filling and full of flavour! I would definitely come again! <br/><br/>
Followthefoodmelbourne
I’d been driving past this cafe for (what feels like) forever, yet I’d never eaten here until now. <br/>The cafe itself is pretty small but really gorgeous inside (think minimal, sleek white walls and hanging plants). <br/>For food, I chose the charcoal waffles and my friend chose what I believe was called their breakfast bowl. The waffles were definitely a unique dish, the jet black colour was very cool. The flavour was great and I loved the generous fruit accompaniment. The waffles themselves were a tad doughy (which I think would be solved if they made them a bit thinner). Overall though, we were very impressed with Muharam and would visit again.
Bite The Looks By BHA
Random brunch on weekday because i have nothing to do :)<br/> <br/>I ordered Red velvet pancakes- the insta famous dish that everyone has talked about. All the elements;the berries and the cream cheese was very blend well together. Served with the warm hot chocolate on top of it!what a goodness heaven!<br/><br/>Trio of sliders- (old menu) consist of 1 fried chicken slider , 1 beef patty slider and 1 bacon slider. The portion of the slider is quite huge considering there were 3 of this. For me, i think the fried chicken is the best. The skin is so crispy but the meat is so tender. The beef is also perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned too. The bacon was just your average slider you can get from any other store.<br/><br/>The staffs were very friendly. The place was bright and airy. I really enjoyed the ambience, it was homely and cozy. Perfect for brunch occasion with friends or family. I will come back for sure!<br/><br/><br/>#BHAsFoodDiary

Was my favourite cafe but today’s food was bad enough for me to not want to go back. Not sure if there’s a new chef or not but it’s not worth a second chance. I had the big breakfast and not one thing on there was even luke warm. Really disappointing but the coffee is good!
2wo Fat Girls
A small cafe featuring a white + timber aesthetic (my favourite) with hanging plants to give a real fresh and nature vibe. They’ve been quite famous for the donut freakshakes for a few years now but it seems that the trend has really died down – I was looking forward to trying their Golden Gaytime milkshake only to find out that they didn’t have the appropriate ingredients available. Opting for the Malteaser one instead left me quite disappointed, as it was merely a chocolate frappe with whipped cream on top. Otherwise, the menu features quite simple, classic dishes but the red velvet pancakes were the highlight for us.
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
The cafe has a nice atmosphere, the food was generally good as well. <br/><br/>The triple cheese corn beef sandwich was really good. We got to try the velvet pancake as well, which was quite nice.
Laurence Song
Nice little local cafe. The presentation of each order is beautiful. The portion of the food is good for sharing. Coffee is nice as well. The down point is the blueberry is frozen not fresh I think.
Agi
The food here is fantastic, fresh produce, unfortunately the customer service could be a bit better as I was left unserved for a while despite the cafe being empty, other than that had a good experience.
Farha
This place was good. The service was prompt & the food was yummy. We ordered the Mexican salad and the chicken salad & we got a side of chips because we thought we might not get full from salad but the salad serves were quite big and we couldn’t even finish it. The Mexican salad was ok the meat seemed a bit dry but the chicken salad was fresh & tasty. The chips were delicious! We also got two smoothies to go with our meals so we were very very full. This place is worth a try if you are looking for something healthy & filling (just don’t get the chips on the side ;))

I had the most delicious feed @muharamcafe Here we have the ACAI SMOOTHIE BOWL w/ toasted coconut, seasonal fruit, peanut butter, edible flowers and granola. The DRAGON FRUIT SMOOTHIE, matcha lattes and coffee 😍😍🙌🏻 <br/><br/>Food: 5/5 <br/><br/>Service: Such great, generous and friendly service, that really look after you <br/><br/>Instagram worthy: such great benches and great lighting inside <br/><br/>Location: I highly recommend this spot in the heart of Hawthorn

What a lovely cafe its simply styled with the white its chic. Staff a lovely and welcoming. Delivered an exceptional coffee to start with with a great menu. I ordered the charcoal waffles and I absolutely loved the dish. Firstly it was absolutely beautifully presented. Everything well cooked and everything on the plate belonged there. Will need to go back to try some other dishes.

On a Sunday we arrived at 11.15am, a little after the mad rush and we only had to wait a couple of minutes for a table. The place is quite small so either come early or be prepared to wait a little.<br/><br/>For drinks I had an almond hot chocolate which was nice and hot but lacked flavour, there was also no sugar on the table.<br/>My partner ordered a latte and described it as average.<br/><br/>For food I couldn't go past the red velvet pancakes and my partner got the big breakfast with scrambled eggs.<br/><br/>Our drinks were forgotten and the waitress had to come back and re confirm our order. <br/><br/>The pancakes were yummmm but after I'd eaten 1 and a half, it was too much for me so something to keep in mind.<br/>The big breakfast was disappointing and for a nice cafe like this it was probably one of the worst he'd had. There was only one piece of bread and the eggs had no flavour to them and were thrown on. The worst had to be the potato rosti, when we turned it over it was completely burnt! Something that shouldn't have got on the plate.<br/><br/>Service was average and food overall average as the big breakfast was a let down.
Bobzbellycious
Went to this small joint on a gloomy saturday. Decided to order some colourful offerings from the menu. Ordered the black activated charcoal waffle and the dragonfruit and mango smoothie. I love the refreshing experience from the smoothie. The waffle was beautifully presented, however I would have liked a little more sweetness to it. The banana and the strawberries were slightly too young for my liking, so perhaps a little more caramelisation on the banana and a bit more maple syrup would have boosted the overall balance of the dish. Otherwise great experience. Staffs were attentive and i left feeling refreshed😉

by F.E.E.D. | Aug 31, 2017 | Breakfast and Brunch, cafesinmelbourne, Hawthorn, Lunch, Modern Australian, RESTAURANTS AND CAFES | 0 comments. A ten-year-old cafe named after the grandma of co-owner, Dimi, Muharam exudes down-to-earth local vibes in their slightly dated venue. Equally popular amongst the local office crowd as it is for a relaxing lunch with family and friends, there is something here for everyone.

Great spot. They serve delicious food with an interesting twist and stunning presentation. There are vegan options galore and friendly staff too. Definitely recommend.
MmmmmJ
Worst service! The cafe was not even full house we had to grab the attention of the waiters 4 times to get a menu, water, a coffee and a meal. Having looked around the cafe it seemed to be the same case with the two other customers sitting near me who were not served. Could also see their frustrations of not being attended to.
Zoe Brito
Yuuuum. Red velvet pancakes are to die for. Very small, but cute. Good range on menu. Too many good options!! Reasonably priced. Cafe wasn't very well signed though, but on main road. Great food, variety of choices, Definately recommend.

Absolutely love this place! Food is amazing and not overpriced. Bit squashy would love to see this place expand. Staff are friendly, would also recommend sharing the red velvet pancakes as they are very sweet to have on their own.

Amazing gluten free options, service was fast and friendly. I had the acai bowl which was delicious. The cafe itself was really cute too, perhaps a little dark inside though.

Went for breakfast today and actually had the worst service ever. <br/>We walked in and no one was interested in helping us at all and we had to walk through and grab our own table. <br/>Waitress didn't bother with a note pad and only took our drinks order and not our food, even though we were ready. Couldn't remember what we ordered because she didn't write it down and came back to ask, then gave us the wrong thing anyway. Also forgot one of our drinks. <br/>Did the same thing with the food and didn't give us the extras we asked for. Food was cold. Didn't give us any cutlery. Dirty drink glasses. Staff were more interested in chatting behind the counter and walked away before we had a chance to finish our orders/ ask for the missing drink/food. <br/><br/>Seeing as it is a public holiday we absolutely understand about a surcharge, however we were about to pay and then she realised she hadn't added it on to the bill. Staff seemed extremely salty and couldn't be bothered working the public holiday so we received absolutely poor service on a day where we had to pay more. <br/><br/>Bonus: get home and look at our receipt and find that our waitress was 'Sally Butthole'. <br/><br/>WILL NOT BE RETURNING!
Luke
Poor service - cold food - under average coffee<br/><br/>Very disappointing! Managed to get our coffee order and meals wrong for just 4 of us?! <br/><br/>Staff were disinterested in serving people, instead they just chatted with each other every chance they had. <br/>
Lisa Giles
My sister and I decided to try this cafe near us, and were pleasantly surprised. The staff were very casual but also friendly. We ordered the corn fritters and the trio of burgers, both were tasty; although I probably liked the side of chips the best, really well flavoured . The golden gaytime milkshake however was absolutely delicious! Tasted exactly like the ice cream. Probably my only complaint was that the water glasses were a bit dirty but overall the place was decent.

Finally visited Muharam this morning, even though we have been living just around the corner for around 5 months now. It's nice inside, simple but has a nice feel, quite a small place. It was busy when we went but not full so we got a table right away. Coffee was decent, cold pressed juice a little small but at $4.50 it's also cheaper than most places so works out ok value. <br/><br/>On to food. I ordered the sweet corn fritters which include either haloumi or bacon (i got bacon) and eggs optional extra for $2 (which I added). My partner ordered the red velvet pancakes. Service was good - food probably took 10-15 minutes. My corn fritters were a generous serving size, and came with a red pepper salsa and avocado as well as the bacon and eggs. I could only eat 2/3rds and my partner finished it off happily. My partner enjoyed his pancakes, particularly the inclusion of the cream cheese, but did say it could have used more fresh fruit/berries. While there were 3 pancakes, they were fairly small and thin. He would have left hungry if he didn't get to finish my breakfast off. <br/><br/>Overall, pretty decent and a good option to have close by. Not sure I'd travel for it though.
LL
Had the nut-tellin and milo milkshake.<br/>Presentation-4/5<br/>Cost- 2/5 (not worth the money)<br/>Service-4.5/5 (superfriendly)<br/><br/>Each milkshake is too much for one person. You're better off splitting with a friend.

I've been to Muharam 3 times. First time had the fritters and wasn't too impressed. Second visit I have the chicken sandwich which was yummy. Third visit was today - I don't know where to start, the food was average and the service was terrible. Firstly, they ran out of the curry on the special board. That's ok, myself and one of our other group members had a different curry. It was mostly sauce and two tiny pieces of meat. After a few minutes discussion about what turmeric lattes were, I ordered one. My friend ordered a juice. No drinks ever arrived. The waiter and the waitress could not have been less interested in their job. The waitress was lovely but that's about it. There was loud crashing and banging in the kitchen like plates/saucepan/utensils being thrown around and the kitchen staff just being careless.<br/><br/>I live in the area and work a few hundred meters down the road from Muharam, but I will not being going back here and will not be recommending this place to anyone.<br/>
@twogoodtoresist
One of the first cafes in melbourne to start "freakshakes", Muharam certainly offers a great spread and a huge variety of dishes. Their red velvet pancakes are to die for! All dishes are huge portions so go hungry!

Super amazing tasty coconut chai at this cafe!! Must try if you're a chai lover!! Yummy food and pretty funky tunes! Asked about the name and it's named after the owner's grandmother.... pretty special and cozy space to enjoy a beautiful sunny Saturday morning! Highly recommended!!
Mrs Lavender
A cafe that the cute barista sang happily , the friendly smile from the pretty waitress , yummy chai latte with the delicious plain crossiant, and the recall of a old R'n'R song that I use to love so much . Totally awesome for Saturday lunch :)

A cute little café situated at the corner of Burwood Rd and Power St in Hawthorn.<br/> <br/>We had the Breaky Board and the trio of sliders. The best thing on the board was the granola. Full of crunchy nutty goodness. I find the croissant a little stale. I really enjoyed the sliders. Crumbed deep fried chicken tender and brie was the best. Genius!<br/> <br/>Good coffee and prana chai tea. Friendly service.

Everyone's here for the red velvet pancakes but I was on the nourish yourself bandwagon that I'm constantly falling off so I went for the toasts on the specials board (two not one because I still want to nourish myself in a FILLING way). I actually even considered a third one but the waiter talked me out of it. So fresh and delicious. Avocado and goats cheese on one and hummus with pepitas and cherry tomatoes on the other. Reviews on Zomato aren't great but I rated this place. Two of the six of my group of friends fried the pancakes and absolutely raved about them

An okay breakfast place. I had the sweetcorn fritters which was nice with a generous serving of bacon. Friend had the breakfast salad which was tasty. <br/><br/>It was a local joint. Tried it out and it was okay. Nothing outstanding in my books.

The Red Velvet Pancakes looked absolutely stunning. Served in a wooden board, the trio of pancakes were topped beautifully with berries and cream cheese. The pancakes themselves were perfectly cooked to a light and fluffy layer, full of flavour and was well complemented by the smooth cream cheese. Combined with the slight sourness of the strawberries and pouring the rich chocolate sauce onto these edible works of art only added to their deliciousness.<br/> <br/>Those Red Velvet Pancakes were to die for, and ranks among some of the best we’ve ever come across. I’d undoubtedly be back for more of those.

Lovely peaceful cafe with friendly helpful staff. I Enjoyed the Asian ChicKen salad but the other salads were a little unidimensional, and could have done with a contrasting flavour or texture. Courtyard is very tiny so can be hard to get a table there.

Nice quiet cafe at Burwood Road. Love the rustic interior cafe and vibe. Ordered their Black Buckwheat Waffle and Breakie Board. My favourite part will be the crispy on the outside and soft on the inside waffle combine with the sticky and gooey honey. The corn fritter with avocado is the star of the Breakie board. Savoury goodness.

Beautiful food with a great selection of healthy options. Coffee is good, but there's better around. Weekends are BUSY, so prepare to be a little squished and avoid if you're not keen on too much noise while eating a meal. Not keen on the gimmicky milkshakes, but they seem to bring in business so it's understandable why they offer them.
Sofie
I tried the pancakes and to me they were way, way, way too sweet. If I made the menu I would make it 2 pancakes instead of 3, skip the icing sugar and add more berries/fruit.

This place has some seriously awesome items on the menu. Little bit expensive but excellent quality food. Service was good. Coffee was out very fast.
Flyingpotato
Great coffee and friendly service. The food's always good, although the haloumi was a little rubbery on the smashed avocado. Definitely be back!

I love this little cafe in hawthorn. The service has been better on some days than others but I can never fault the food! Acai bowl is a must try!

Great coffee, AMAZING shakes, yummy food and great service. Ordered the coconut chilli scrambled eggs with a side of smashed avo and feta and was<br/>not disappointed! The Choc Nuts healthy shake tasted like snickers 😍 I can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu as there's so many delicious choices!!

Wasn't happy this time round, have been here many times but today service was just so poor. <br/>Ordered two coffees and food , food came before coffees even though we ordered them 10 minutes prior to food. 25 minutes later we got one coffee, other was totally forgotten. Bad buzz, wasn't a full house either

Cute and cosy cafe! Not exactly stoked to have the three of us seated on to one small table but at least we got our seats! I was dying to try the red velet pancakes and was estatic when it arrived, it was beautiful! Overall the pancakes were nice however a major con was the sweetness of the white icing/cream on top, hence I couldn't finish it :(
Melbourne Glutton
Come for their Instagram worthy milk shakes, but stay for the delicious brunch offerings. For something to complement those incredible milk shakes, get the equally gorgeous red velvet pancakes.

Thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Muharam Cafe. The waitress' were very bubbly and welcoming. The cafe also played very good music to add to the thriving vibe.

Finally got around to visiting Muharam Cafe! I took the indulgent and super unhealthy route and ordered the red velvet pancakes and the Nutella Donut shake. The pancakes were nice and fluffy - but just a bit too much cream cheese for my liking. The donut shake was as you expected - so sweet! But I had to try it! <br/><br/>I'm going to come back and try the smashed avo!

I ordered the velvet pancakes and a vanilla milkshake which were delicious but word of advice, was too sweet for lunch. It felt slightly cramped as it was a popular but had limited space. In terms of customer service, it could be improved on, addressing customers at the door, giving menus out etc. Overall, still worth a try for the food.
FOOD TRIP
Muharam is a cosy and comfortable café full of funky and innovative décor. Lots of comfy seating and great service. Their dishes are hearty and of premium quality. Overheard that the curry is worth trying out and will be coming back for that. Would recommend Muharam if in the area. Mocha $4Latte $3.50Breaky Board $17.50 cheese and tomato croissant, granola trifle, corn fritter with poached egg, red pepper salsa with a coffee

The red velvet pancakes here are amazing- soft and moist cake accompanied with a rich pot of chocolate sauce! I also recommend their smash avocado dish 👍🏻<br/><br/>Here's a blog post from my last visit <br/>http://thuyteeisaboy.blogspot.com.au/2015/11/isabelles-birthday-brunch.html?m=1<br/>

We had the gaytime, milo and Nutella milkshake. All milkshakes were delicious. Also ordered smashed avocado with poached egg and scrambled eggs. Scrambled eggs were a bit on the dry side. Smashed avocado was okay. Also ordered coffee and it was pretty good. Small coffee shop on a busy road but worth the stop, especially for the milkshakes.

July 2018 ~<br/>Returned to this cafe a full two years later and can say I’m glad I did! It was great that I could go when each dish is $11 for the 11 year celebration which is running for the rest of the year. The only unfortunate thing with this deal is that the cafe gets busy especially on weekends, so their is a wait. We waited about 30 min for a table but luckily we got our food within 5 mins so that was great! <br/>I tried the red velvet pancakes which are incredibly popular and were super delish! They had cream cheese and berries on top with chocolate sauce that you could choose to pour over the pancake which I recommend. My friend tried the waffles which were also yummy and are charcoal flavoured which doesn’t change the flavour much and also comes with berries and banana. <br/><br/>July 2016 ~<br/>I really liked this cafe as it has a fantastic menu with a great range of sweet and savoury options. I had the acai smoothie bowl which was so delicious & had yummy fruit & granola. My friend had the granola which she liked and found filling. I will definitely be back again to try their other great dishes!

Finally made our way down to the original home of the donut milkshakes, yet it was the quality of the food that took us by surprise! We ordered a pumpkin French toast, which was a beautiful combination of flavours, the pumpkin ganache was to die for! A must try, and something a little different to your normal brunch options! The big breakfast was just that, big, delicious and well cooked, especially the rosti. The milkshakes were great, reasonable toppings although nothing amazing, lucky the actual milkshake was great! Some good strong flavours there that made up for the lack of wow in the flavour of the toppings. My search for the perfect Freakshake continues! Friendly staff, fairly slow service however but cute decor and a great little cafe!
Theknifeandforktalk
Second time @muharamcafe for their milkshakes and this time I tried the Milo Shake. Delicious milkshake but not the friendliest service! I waited for over 30 minutes for a milkshake!

I was not impressed with my visit to Muharam. All in all, the workers had no manners and seemed like they didn't like each other. I would personally not go back because I didn't warm to the working environment, from what i could tell. A cafe needs a good energy between the staff! Coffee was good though, nice work.

This was a very memorable birthday breakfast for my girlfriend and I.- Sit down at a table, waiter comes and gives us two menus; says she will be back with water- 15 minutes later, and after 2 tables order before us (seated after us)- I ask if I have to order at the till. Then I finally get service.<br/>- Still no water.<br/>- Strawberry milkshake and a 'doughnut' milkshake; with a brownie, no doughnut to be seen, not at all looking like what I thought I was ordering.. with no knife or fork to eat with.- Still no water or glasses.<br/>- Meals come out.. Big Brekky ,  Pancakes.<br/>- Not once did the staff come ask if everything was okay or if anything was wrong.<br/>- Finally after I ask for water and cutlery, she brings a jug of water over. No glasses to drink out of. <br/>- Near the end of our meals when they come to clear our shakes which they assumed were finished. They weren't.- I then have to ask for glasses to drink out of.- By the time we got the glasses, we were finished our meals. The worst service I think I've ever seen. Felt as if all the staff were on their first shift. very overrated and was extremely disappointed. Would only recommend to people I didn't like.

The wait was a little long and can definitely be improved. Although I really did enjoy the crumpets I had! The banana and peanuts make a great combo.
Heidi
I visited muharam cafe for lunch on a Saturday, they were kind enough to reserve a table for 6 a few days beforehand. I ordered the house made crumpets with salted caramel, grilled bananas, peanut praline & marscapone! It was awesome, and so pretty too. I also couldn't go past seeing what these milkshakes are all about so I ordered the golden gay time, it was a chocolate milkshake with a waffle cone, full of cream and chocolate bits! It was a bit much having both so I couldn't finish either, but they definitely both impressed!
Teagan Fraser
I quite liked this place! I thought the menu was really appealing and found it difficult to pick what I wanted. The red velvet pancakes were delicious but my Nutella thickshake was basically a milkshake with a Nutella donut stuck on top but none the less tasty. Very loud in there though it's difficult to have a conversation.
Melbrunchin
This place is honestly one of the worst cafes iv been to, I'm offended to even be presented with the rubbish they put on a plate that they think is a meal. I ordered corn fritters, the overall presentation was very underwhelming and looked like a home style slapped together meal, the taste was even worse. Staff also found it difficult to get such simple orders correct.. Paying $20 for fake store bought avocado guacamole dip that tasted like absolute ass that everyone on the table squirmed at the taste of and didn't dare go near it again. Haloumi tasted off and was so tough I could have used it for tyres on my car. I wish I had time to write all of my thoughts but I would be here all day. Just stay away.

Terrible - where can we start. Firstly, a health and quite obvious issue; leaving milk out/reusing left over milk to create your "freakshakes"? I don't understand how this practice is continual and there seems to be a common trend wth you reviews, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it for myself today. How hard is it to clean your milkshake makers? Sickening.<br/><br/> I didn't feel comfortable in ordering one, and promptly changed my order to a coffee instead after seeing that. The staff are about as lifeless as a deflated balloon - moping around the place. Our order was missing smashed avo - it literally tasted like guacamole dip (Coles/Woolworths) or it was watered down? <br/><br/>Atmosphere and OHS is a big issue here, as well as the quality in the condiments within their dishes - Walk 5 minutes up and you'll find the best hawthorn has to offer.

A little while ago I decided to make my way down to Muharam café in Hawthorn. Muharam is a great little café right near Hawthorn station. The store itself looks very appealing, a very light and vibrant place. The staff go with the look of the store, very god to any customer that walks in and have the amazing food to go with it.
Guzzling
I have to agree with the other reviews - the place is so noisy with the jarring music in the background, and the milkshake blender definitely doesn't help. The staff are so depressingly emotionless I thought the other reviews must have been exaggerating... Food is okay but seems that the place is more suited for tweens who are coming for the milkshakes.
Mill Mill
I was disappointed. The cafe is so noisy although staff try to be accommodating it is awkward as they tend to yell to be heard. I ordered a zaatar chicken schnitzel slaw sandwich with chips. The chicken was a let down. It had no flavour and had NO zaatar at all which was the reason for ordering it, the slaw was missing too. The chips were a miss although I did enjoy the dipping sauce. I may go back to try a milkshake but overall extremely disappointing.
Fiona.k
Most disappointing experience, we were going to use this café to provide lunches for important guests but after experiencing the food we will not return. Za'atar crusted chicken breast sandwich with slaw and cheese - well there wasn't a speck of za'atar in sight! It was actually just greasy fried over cooked and tough chicken with a bit of sad looking lettuce with cheap mayonnaise - no slaw, no cheese and no za'atar and at a premium price, to make it worse the chips were cooked in dirty oil, it was all so bad it went in the bin.On a positive note when we called to ask why there wasn't any za'atar on the za'atar chicken sandwich they did offer a refund but as it was a pick up and we are 15 mins away we did not bother to go back.

Muharams menu is full of choices- I think almost everything appealed to my eye. It's a cute, very small cafe that was very busy when I visited however the service of the food was very efficient. I ordered smashed avocado and my cousin ordered the red velvet pancakes and oh boy, did I have food envy! Those pancakes were such a unique menu item and I was so so impressed. They were full of flavour and they were just mouthwatering!!! My avocado on the other hand, I personally wasn't too much of a fan due to the obvious lemon flavour however this meal did have potential. Overall I will be back to Muharam in the future!
Mel
This place was unfortunately very disappointing. The wait staff forgot our coffees and meals. Then when our food did come the eggs were undercooked and the avocado was not fresh. We left very hungry!
John
The menu is limited, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when the limited choice is not appealing (especially for a vegetarian) - then it is disappointing. And what we did end up ordering was uninspiring.<br/><br/>Both times I have been here there have been muck-ups with the coffee order/delivery.<br/><br/>That said, I have seen lots of people order the milkshakes with a donut on top and everyone looks very satisfied with this. I will need to try it if I ever go back.
Wander Wonder Wonton
I ordered a apple and orange juice (it was all they had for fresh) which was a nice, refreshing start but nothing too exciting. We both went for The Stack breakfast. A potato rosti, stacked with spinach, smoked salmon, another rosti, a poached egg and apparently truffle oil. Why apparently? Well we couldn’t taste it. Must have been the tiniest of dashes.
Delightfullytasty
Muharam Cafe is a small cafe in Hawthorn best known for its milkshakes, which have become very popular in the past few months. There were a lot of people there when we went, which made for a lively though slightly noisy atmosphere. We didn't have to wait too long for our food, though staff service could be improved - we waited about fifteen minutes after we ordered for any water or cutlery to come, whereas other people sitting next to us got theirs immediately. Also, as I ordered sliders I was not given any cutlery - which was fine - however not even a napkin was provided. Also at the end of our meal, we weren't asked if we wanted to order anything else and were just given the bill, and we had to tell the staff that we actually wanted to order the milkshake. On top of this, when we were paying for our meal, they tried to charge us for a coffee, even though it was included as part of the breakfast dish my friend ordered, and we had to point that out to them.
Casualfoodie
This cafe in my opinion is very over rated and you're better off going to the cafe next door if you're looking for a good cup of coffee with friendly service. First time I came in I ordered 3 lattes to take away, one of them strong. All three of us thought that the coffee was pretty weak. Wouldn't be surprised if the strong one had only one shot in it. The server taking orders pretty much took the orders like it was the last thing she wanted to ever be doing and the music was so loud, as in it was just silly for a cafe that small. The second time I went here with a group of 5. I don't necessarily want someone to be overly attentive or fake to be friendly but every girl in here looked nothing short of sulky. I don't think any of the three girls even smiled once except for when two of them were laughing amongst each other at the coffee maker. The cafe was empty except for maybe two other tables yet we probably waited a good half an hour for the meals to come. The toast with the eggs comes smothered in excessive amounts of butter, the avocado side is a purée just FYI and the vegemite and toast comes with way too much vegemite and butter which is refrigerated in blocks meaning pretty much unspreadable. There's a good portion of haloumi that comes as a side with eggs & splitting bills wasn't an issue with always gets a tick of approval from me.

I went here this afternoon for lunch. All I can say is the service is terrible here. The staff barely smile or open their mouths when they speak to you. Food wasnt great either. Overall a very disappointing experience. It ruined our day! Will not come back nor recommend it to others
Rocharne Brady
Went in this morning with a smile on my face and was greeted by nothing but dirty looks from the staff. I felt so unbelievably uncomfortable ordering my coffee, which luckily tasted amazing! The ambiance in the cafe is lovely, though it was killed by the unwelcoming staff. All in all I would go back, but only for the coffee.
Tina
Went here on a Saturday and had the red velvet pancakes and the Nutella milkshake. The pancakes were not a disappointment and when I go back it will definitely be for them. Milkshake was really nice, just be prepared for an overload of Nutella. The staff were all laid back and the cafe had a chill vibe. We were seated and seen quite quickly despite it being a Saturday and quite busy.
DuckieLovesToEat
The first time I tried red velvet cupcake in the US a few years ago I was hooked. Just imagine my joy when I found out they come as pancakes. I saw insta photo of this pancake and I must try it! I was glad I did because I was not disappointed. It was just beautiful. The waiter was also nice so that was a bonus. I highly recommend this place.

I'm a huge believer in not judging a book by its cover, the same goes for this cute little cafe located in Hawthorn. While the exterior was not as attractive outside, the inside was nicely decorated with pot plants on the walls! They have three seating areas, a small seating area outdoor in front of the cafe, an indoor area as well as outdoor patio at the back.
Sara
amazing food!!! Go for the Nutella donut shakes it'll change your life. Slow but friendly service, defiantly worth a try. Would be a higher score just the price and the slowness puts it down. Regardless Will be seeing me again 😍👍🏼
Hungry Hippo
My experience was a shocker! I couldn't wait to leave. Their service was dismal. The staff members looked like they were at a zombie funeral. I also worry about their hygiene. They have a line of used blenders with milkshake leftovers just sitting there by the window until the next customer orders one. When that happens, they don't wash them. They don't even tip out the leftovers. They reuse the old milk over and over again. I've also noticed that my chai latte was super weak. Tasted like they have reused the chai several times already, too. The staff members were also giggling at the flies flying around their donuts. Then they smashed the flies on the counter and the wall, and did not even wipe them down. Yuk! That was when my food arrived... I did not want to eat it. If they are like that outside the kitchen, imagine inside! But I was hungry, so I dug in anyway. Despite its fancy menu description, my burger was very bland. I also found a super long thick stem in my burger... what the... did not finish my burger. Will not return.
Jess Jensen
I love this place! Everything I've ever had from here has been great. I love the corn fritters and red velvet pancakes. The only downfall is the long wait to even get a table (they take your number and call you when it's ready) and then another long wait for your food, but I guess that just shows how popular the cafe is!
Gmc
id like to say I was very disappointed and ashamed that I visited this cafe. I was expecting a lot higher and more sophisticated place. first walking in the doors the staff were not pleasant and were very unwelcoming. the service was poor and very slow. no napkins were provided and when requested for sauce we were forgotten about we sat outside and it was basically like we were abandoned!!! the Nutella donought milkshakes were way to overpriced and overally sweet, the water was clearly unfresh in the water jug it was warm and looked like it had not been washed at all.
Sakura Dallaire
My friend and I wanted to stop by Muharam Cafe for their famous freak shakes! So here we are.. VERY disappointed. We ordered the golden gaytime shake and the nutella doughnut shake and the only delicious part of this was the nutella doughnut. SO GOOD. But wow the milkshakes SUCK. Way too sweet and it's not even a milkshake.. not thick at all. Basically just flavored milk? Not sure if Australia does milkshakes differently (I think you may call it thick shakes) but still, way too sweet, only drank a sip and hated it. I would say it's a cute idea but I don't think I'll be back here again! Not worth so much $$$
Sara Boskovic
Very good food and amazing Nutella donut shakes. Also a very friendly staff and cute intimate atmosphere. Would be a 5/5 but it was quite pricey and slow service.
Hello. Imnikki
As much as I wanted to like Muharam Cafe, this place is let down by its food and service. Coffee was average and there was a very long wait for food. No smile from the servers at all and food was served wordlessly. We ordered the Smashed Avo and Big Breakfast and both dishes were really bland. The Smashed Avo was under-seasoned and the grilled haloumi was soggy and tasteless. The Big Breakfast was somewhat better in terms of taste and the saving grace was the soft fluffy scrambled eggs. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes? From the other reviews, the milkshakes and red velvet pancakes seem to be the way to go so maybe we will give this place another try when we have a craving for sweets.
Leah
Nice atmosphere and service is pretty good. Photos on social media and website looked amazing so I was pretty excited to try it out but was a bit of a let down. Presentation is fantastic but the actual taste is nothing special. I ordered the avo on toast which was quite salty.
Dollmination
If you're looking for the perfect red velvet pancake, then u come to the right place! Warm red velvet with warm chocolate syrup on top. Easy parking, homy interior decoration and perfect for girly brunch!
Nibble And Wander
Awesome cute little cafe, it's quite busy around lunch time with a line forming outside. Great atmosphere, attentive waitresses and the wait for the food wasn't too long. Came here for the pretty red velvet pancakes and they did not disappoint, a little too sweet with the chocolate sauce for my liking but they were nice and fluffy and were really filling. My partner had the wild mushroom dish, he said it was alright but needed more feta. We didn't get the awesome looking milkshakes because lattes are my go-to drinks but check out how amazing they looked!
Claudia Facy
I wasn't sure what to expect here but I was pleasantly surprised! The presentation here is near perfect and the staff are very friendly, although they did forget to bring an orange juice. The red velvet pancakes were amazing as well as the wild mushrooms with poached eggs. Mango sunset smoothie was refreshing a perfect offset to the rich pancakes. Definitely come here hungry!
Caroline
Nice little cafe. Not too busy during the week. Tried the Nut-Tellin' shake, Golden Gaytime shake and their house made crumpets (don't worry, not at the same time haha). All are delicious, the food is great! Staff could be a little friendlier though, a smile won't hurt.
JoJo X LiLi
Located on one of the busiest intersections in Hawthorn, resides Muharam; a cute and cozy little cafe that could possibly go unnoticed if it wasn't for it's signature white picket fence. We certainly couldn't go past it. Not after stumbling across images upon images of it's fluffy, thick, sugar dusted red velvet pancakes on the internet. No siree. Not JoJo and LiLi.
My Babes And I
My babes and I were about to start her birthday celebrations by having breakfast early on Friday morning. She wanted to try some Red Velvet Pancakes so I knew to take her to Muharam Cafe on Burwood Road as she's shown me previously on Instagram. I took a day off from work and we drove an hour from the west to Hawthorn just so we can try out Muharam Cafe!<br/>I ordered the Big Breakfast and a latte for my drink, which is my go-to meal when trying out a new cafe for breakfast, and my babes ordered her highly anticipated, long awaited Red Velvet Pancakes with Cream Cheese.<br/>My latte was served about 5 minutes after ordering and our meals another 10 minutes after that. We were both pleasantly surprised by our meals; my babes Red Velvet Pancakes, which were covered in decorative flowers, chopped strawberries and a dusting of icing sugar, was very pretty and the large serve of my Big Breakfast was impressive.<br/>My babes has always wanted Red Velvet Pancakes and after her first bite, she wasn't disappointed! What my babes described as a cross between a pancake and a cupcake, the Red Velvet Pancakes were a bit thicker and doughier than a normal pancake and tasted exactly as a few of the red velvet cupcakes we've had in the past. The cream cheese and side of melted milk chocolate drizzled over the top enhanced the flavours which was surprisingly not as sweet as it looked.<br/>My Big Breakfast wasn't as aesthetically pleasing as my babes meal but I loved it nonetheless. The eggs were perfectly poached with a runny yolk, the lightly buttered slice of sourdough delicious and the homemade potato rosti a definite stand out! The large mounds of bacon, herb encrusted mushrooms, blanched spinach and smashed avocado rounded off a very flavoursome and filling breakfast!<br/>We really enjoyed our meals at Muharam Cafe and would definitely recommend Muharam Cafe for anyone who would like to try Red Velvet Pancakes and a delicious breakfast. If we do come back for lunch, we might have to share one of their monster-sized milkshakes as they look like a meal unto themselves.

awesome food and great atmosphere, love the food and me and my partner think th9is is the new place to go, evern know its a bit of drive for us we dont mind if the food is that good.
Beth Collins
The worst customer experience I've had in a longtime. Sat for twenty minutes without menus. Waitress didn't smile. Fritters were bland. But enjoyed the look of the menu but not the taste. Doesn't live up to the hype.
Biscuit Musca
Getting lunch, ordered velvet pancakes and spicy sweet corn fritters. The pancakes presentation looks amazing. It very filling. Feels like You're eating a cake for lunch. Can't finish it which is a shame. The fritters though, so delicious. Highly recommend. They also have donut shake that looks so tempting. Service was quick and friendly. Coffee was okay.
Monster Munch
This cafe rises to fame because of its nutella donut milkshare, literally $11 for nutella milkshake with a $1.5 nutella donut. I do prefer golden gaytime milkshake although both were very fatty and filling (not in a positive & satisfactory way).<br/>Its food was a major let down. Everything was incredibly dry, plain. Corn fritters were so dry as if they were crumpet with corns. How palatable.<br/><br/>Concurred with other reviews, music was excessively loud and unfriendly service was another let-down. I don't expect exceptional hospitality but at least a greet instead of a stare? Dont drop off drink or food without a word and leave?<br/><br/>Meeeh not impressed and neither I think it is worth revisiting. (We came to Muharam because top paddock was closed that day and we had cheerios/ crabapple/ axil way too often)<br/><br/>*sorry no special photo editing to make the food unrealistically photogenic. I am just going to keep them real
Prageeth Silva
Amazing food choices, varying from healthy options to sugar filled extravagant deliciousness! The donut-milkshakes are a must try, it's their main specialty. Options like the red-velvet pancakes are amazing too. However, one thing I didn't like was the attitude of some of the staff. Overall, the food is amazing but the entire experience can sometimes be affected by staff too.
Jen
The Nut-tellin' Doughnut Shake was so delicious! Lip smacking good! The Muharam Curry was also a hit but I regret getting it with the quinoa. I recommend having it with the rice instead. Lost points for the Wagyu Beef Burger - the bun was too oily and the patty was tasteless. Lost another point for poor service because the waitresses seemed like they didn't even want to be there. Muharam Cafe is a great concept but definitely has room for improvements.

Usually when I go to a cafe or restaurant I like to at least eat there.... This was not the case! I went with some friends hoping to enjoy a nice afternoon lunch but never again! It was packed I understand that, but we stood in front of register for at least 5 min, a waitress 3 times reached around me to get utensils, 2 waiters behind the counter ignored us but happy to serve people wanting to pay. We decided to grab the first table we saw that was empty still no one came, my friend went to the kitchen to grab a waiter ! Lol I as ridiculous! But was lucky she did as we were then told there was a waiting list! So we were then told again to go to counter which we did... To then be asked by the waitress did we need to pay as we had been sitting outside!!! Such bad service!!! We were then told they couldn't tell us how long a table might be, at 20 to 40 min!!! So we decided to leave! So if the food at this place is good wouldn't know, but if you are wanting at least pleasant service even if a place is nice? I suggest look elsewhere where!!!

The boy had the big breakky whilst I made a beeline for the red velvet pancakes, which were a little dry. Overall, it was a pleasant visit but it did leave me with a lot of mixed feelings. Their staff weren't unfriendly, but they weren't entirely friendly either - they came across a little 'meh'. The food is not bad and whilst the presentation is definitely there, I was still waiting for lift off.
May
Waited about 50 minutes for a table and then another 45 minutes for food to come out. Donut milkshake was a little disappointing, and the mushrooms I ordered were burnt. The cafe needs to hire more staff to accommodate for the popularity
Lauren Colbert
Two friends and I specifically came here for the loaded milkshakes but were sorely disappointed.  We ordered the Golden Gaytime shake, but it was basically a mildly flavoured caramel milkshake, with some syrup and sugar chucked on the rim, with canned whipped cream stuffed in a waffle cone.  For the money paid ($11!), it was NOT worth it.The staff were unwilling to make any changes to the milk used in the shake, but even then they were rude.  From what we could see, their decision not to make changes was based purely on laziness in that they didn't want to have to make two batches of the one drink.  As a cafe, they should accommodate for customers' requests especially since we were willing to pay extra for the alternative milk. The music is far too loud, and with the echo in the place it was impossible to hear the voice of the person sitting directly next to you.Again, have to reiterate the rudeness of the staff, in particular the manager.
Jeffery Lim Shi Qiang
The food and shakes were great! We had the red velvet pancake and house made crumpets but couldn't finish them because everything we had was sweet. Wished one of their staff would be friendlier though. I get that it's busy, but a smile instead of a glare would be nice
Wat
Very busy on a Saturday morning so the food and drinks were very slow and all came at different times. Did not enjoy as service was terrible.
Taniacandido
This cafe was so worth the drive! It was super busy and we had to wait only 10 or so minutes for a table. I got the red velvet pancakes and my friend got the house made crumpets. Even though it was really busy, our food came surprisedly quickly. The pancakes and the cream cheese on top were amazing and very filling. The hot fudge chocolate sauce was a lovely touch. It was extremely noisy in there and it made it hard to talk. The prices are pretty good (average prices) since the quality of the food is so good.

Muharam Cafe has something for everyone. I came here with a friend a few weeks ago after completing a 10km run, so obviously we weren't really in the mood for one of their famous shakes, but we still had plenty of choice! <br/>When I was looking around while waiting for my food to come, I definitely had food envy from everyone's dishes! <br/>Food is great, just a pity the place is so small!!

Tried to get in last week but was turned away and told there was an hours wait- This time we got in - the menus were dirty and shabby not laminated or clean- We got milkshakes and food which was good- The waitress was grumpy and rude and did not smile the whole time- The cafe is very cramped and loud- horrible doof doof music that gave us all a headache- -It is not a relaxing or enjoyable place- though the food is great- would definitely not go back again

Definitely a must-go! Red velvet pancakes were heavenly awesome! Their corn fritters were tasty too. Good customer service although it was kinda busy when we visited. Will definitely recommend this place to anyone who craves for pancakes and good food.

It's very satisfying place to have food smoothie and wild mushrooms! I love the seasonal fruit smoothie because it was mixed so well! It's very fresh and to me, I enjoy every part of it except for the seeds they pour in the middle. Haha then for the wild mushroom it was really good! I like the combination of the cheese and the mushroom. They taste great together!
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
After seeing heaps of Instagram photos of Muharam Cafe’s incredible Nut-tellin’ doughnut shake (which is essentially a Nutella doughnut on top of a Nutella milkshake), I knew I had to come here to try one. The only problem was that they had run out of doughnuts! At 12:30pm! On a weekday! Our friendly waitress told us that they could still make us the shake minus the doughnut, but who would want a doughnut-less doughnut shake? Now onto the food menu. I had already looked at the menu before coming here and knew that I wanted the Red Velvet Pancakes. You can only imagine how devastated I was when we were told that the Red Velvet Pancakes had sold out! My next choice would have been the crumpets but before I could even form the words in my mouth, our waitress told us that the crumpets had also sold out! Dammit.

So slow to get the order, then we had a 40 minute wait for food which was more of a soup than a salad. Milkshake was ok but over priced. I won't be coming back.

Service was great. Greeted by smiles once we entered. Child friendly, I was there with my 3 little ones. We asked for share plates for the kids which they didn't have but the kind waitress offered us little saucers instead. The food was amazing. We had the big breakfast and trio sliders. Milk shakes were sweet of course but totally acceptable to a dessert lover (me)

One of the staff were obnoxious, no smile at all. We ordered chicken schnitzel sandwich, smashed avo , Nutella milkshake and coffee - coffee was good. Nutella milkshake was amazing! Smashed avo was really ordinary, the haloumi cheese that came with it seems to have been precooked for a while and was cold, one of my poached egg was overcooked! The schnitzel sandwich with chips was the worse! It tasted like it has been precooked, and when a customer orders it they deep fry it again to reheat it. You can taste the oil and it just wasn't fresh - for both the schnitzel and chips! Was really disappointed with the food, only good thing with this place is the shake and the coffee.

Presentation was absolutely gorgeous, from drinks to dishes to the flowers on the table... But the food pales in comparison. Not that the food isn't good, it just looks amazing so it raises your expectations!
Nomnom
The Nutella donut milkshake was delicious, but staff were slow and one came across as obnoxious. We then got a second waiter half way she was nicer but kept having to remind her to bring us utensils and also to clean the table and bring cups for the water that was provided. It's a shame because the curry was great as well. Wait times can be long but they do take down your number to call you, so can't complain. Fix the staff issue and then this place is better.
KT
Keeping and open mind and trying not to be put off by the negative reviews, I swung by for lunch and left disappointed. As mentioned by some other reviews, the service was poor. The wait time was triple what we were originally told as other tables were repeatedly seated before ours even though we were told that we would be next a number of times. We waited it out though because we wanted to try the Nutella milkshake and their red velvet pancakes we'd seen all over social media. Unfortunately both were underwhelming and fell flat of expectations - the milkshake was average and the pancakes lacked flavour.
TJ
Bad experience here-nowhere near on the level of its sister cafe sardi. The coffee is good, but that's it. Terrible service-waitresses can't seem to take a correct order. Our glasses of water had rainbow sprinkles on them and were dirty. Ordered the trio of salads and got a plate of: quinoa and a tonne of pesto with chicken, gluggy risoni with a piece of fatty chorizo, and a Can of lentils with 2-3 pieces of eggplant-not really salads. We're freezing cold, didn't eat it. Partners big breakfast was average-eggs poached poorly, thin bread, fatty bacon. Could've made way better breakfast at home. Such poor service made the experience tense. What a shame as Sardi is one of my favourite spots.
IsFoodIsGood
Great food. Milkshakes are out of control! Not suitable for a diabetic.<br/>I had the avocado on toast with haloumi and poached eggs and was very happy but the milkshake was full on... felt a but sick afterwards and I didn't even finish it! But it was very good - just too much sugar for me!
Sharon
Came to the cafe after much hype to be disappointed. The music is exceptionally loud that you cannot hear the person opposite talking. We also ordered the famous Nutella milkshake which took an hour to make and once it was given to us they said they had run out of donuts for them ??? Running out of a crucial element of a sort after item to tell me after an hour of waiting and finishing my meal isn't good. The water glasses also had a strange smell to them. The food was average and the staff seem to be flustered and overworked. <br/>Would not come back here as the service, food and ambience is poor and there a much better places around.
The Official Food Hunters
This place is only renowned for its donut Nutella milkshakes. The food is very average although it's a small cafe. Just on a note, I do not like ants served with my water! Please fix this problem at its unhygienic to have an exisiting pest problem.

We visited Muharam Cafe on Father's Day. We arrived at 9am and by 9:30am there was already a line - I recommend arriving early! The food was great - I ordered a gogo smoothie and acai bowl, and my father ordered a nutella donut milkshake and a crumpet. Both meals were absolutely delicious and the nutella donut milkshake was to die for! Really recommend trying this sweet little cafe! I'm definitely going back!
Peifinna Pangestanu
If you are fan of nutella, you definitely have to try this! However, it is too sweet for me though, but it's still delicious! And for the red velvet pancake, it's so perfect!! From my viewpoint, there is no single error from this pancake! I just want to eat and eat more!
Meilia Clarissa Tejasoewita
Muharam cafe's food & price is average. The ambience & service of this cafe is good. Went here basically for the purpose of trying the nut-telling milkshake. But I ended up ordered a burnch food. The nutella milkshake cost me $10. The doughnut was okay but by the time I drank the milkshake, it was too sweet for me. So, I think for someone who likes sweet must try this drink. However, the avocado smash wasn't too good for me.
KT
Although we had to wait , I feel the meal was worth it - I had exactly what I felt like , coffee was really nice too. The milkshakes from what I saw looked incredible and the muffins were really nice I bought dad one :)
Mel Rose
Extremely bad experience here. Went in a group of 5 and 3 people got their food after ten minutes while the other two of us waited over half an hour. One of us cancelled our order after half an hour and left and then the other person waited 45 mins until they came over and asked again what she ordered. Extremely disappointing and not worth it. Don't bother going here unless you never want to get served your food.
AC
Don't bother if you have a pram - this place is not baby friendly!!! <br/><br/>We went here this morning and the only word that comes to mind is disappointing. <br/><br/>The place is small and doesn't accommodate for prams - we waited for 15 minutes for a table before being given the one closest to the walkway leading to the kitchen and toilets. We had no where else to put our pram with our sleeping 6 month old but in the walkway. We asked the waitress politely to move to another table nearby that was out of the way so that we wouldn't be blocking everyone's way. The other table had space for the pram and was free. The waitress asked her boss, who said no so we remained in the walkway. For our entire breakfast, I was anxious about the constant stream of staff and diners who had to squeeze past our pram to get to the kitchen or toilets.<br/><br/>Customer service was poor, we waited for almost 10 minutes for coffee, the place seemed disorganised and the only saving grace was the lovely chef who delivered our food to our table. <br/><br/>We won't be back.
Emily
Considering the hype; it is really nothing to rave about.Had the bacon and egg ciabatta and parts of it was burnt. Seating takes awhile not to mention very limited.Waited for the nutella donut shake and it was really average.Overall overpriced for average food.
Jessica
I feel like this place has great potential, particularly as the only cafe in that little strip open on Sunday, but is let down by the service. Granted, I've only been here once for breakfast and once for takeaway coffee, but those experiences were enough to make me not want to come back. When we came for breakfast, we waited close to 10 minutes before even being given water, then another 5-10 minutes before our coffee orders were taken. We should have been given water straight away and had coffee orders taken at the same time. Coffee was nice, and food was OK. Wait staff appeared bored, disinterested and honestly bordering on rude. Also, the empty table next to us still had the dishes from the previous people sitting on it. Not such a big deal, except that they had left piles of salmon and brown avocado that they clearly didn't want to eat. Didn't make us particularly excited about the food and we certainly didn't order anything with avocado or salmon! The second time we went, we were all but ignored at the counter for a couple of minutes before they took our order, and again the staff did not seem happy. Coffee was nice. Good potential but needs work! Living nearby, I would be here often if service improved.
Edwina Devine
Lovely food (pancakes and a muffin) albeit a little bit TOO rich. Found the service really lacking, would stop me going back again. It was slow and required multiple attempts to order a second lot of coffees. Muffin that my mum ordered came WELL before my pancakes which disappointing.
Kate Dougherty
Managed to get a table on Saturday morning after a short wait which was a relief considering how busy it was. I ordered the crumpets with salted caramel, grilled bananas, mascarpone and peanut praline.  The dish was tasty but the crumpets were a bit too dense and doughy. Needed a lot more salted caramel sauce to balance it out. Overall though, not a bad brunch option.
Ian Stead
Noisy little busy cafe......which is often a good recommendation of a good place to eat. And indeed it was. Had the chefs special, Thai Green Curry and it was AMAZING! Coffee was good too.
Kate B
Bustling little cafe, lacking in space (and enticing entry signage) but with excellent food and a great atmosphere. Had to wait a few minutes to get the waitress's attention on arrival but I'll put that down to the fact that it was packed. There's plenty of exciting things on the menu (will definitely be back to try the porridge). Would recommend!
Aimee Slevison
Came across this little cafe via 'Breakfast in Melbourne' on Instagram...we went in search of Nutella donut milkshakes, but happily settled on items from the menu when we arrived. Friendly service, great coffee, and a nice atmosphere, I would travel across town to spend another afternoon here. The red velvet pancakes were a good choice for a sweet tooth, and many other items coming out of the kitchen looked equally as tasty.

Overall, I enjoyed a lovely brunch at Muharam cafe. I had the cacao smoothie bowl which tasted amazing. Loved the different textures of the dish with creaminess of the smoothie, crunch of the coconut flakes, sweetness of the strawberries & hidden surprise of granola at the bottom. As a heads up - this dish isn't explicitly listed on the menu (there's a pitaya smoothie bowl) so you have to ask the waitress specifically for it! It was delicious, filling and decently priced. <br/>Food: 4.5/5<br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Environment: 4/5<br/>

admittedly, my first visit to muharam earlier this year ‘had some issues to iron out’ but i was hopeful that this little hawthorn cafe would be able to settle into their rhythm and deliver the great brunch experience that i could see they had the potential for. so when one of the owner-partners (they also own well-known sister cafe ‘sardi’ + have another opening soon nearby) invited me to try breaky at muharam for a second time around, i was really excited to see – and taste – the change!
Dksksmamsn
Most expensive chai latte I have ever had, wasn't even that good either. I ordered the extremely popular red velvet pancakes and they were a little bit of a disappointment. It looked like pictures online, but there was not a single hint of red velvet flavour. I was told it used to be topped with vanilla ice cream but they now changed it to icing which is a bad choice as it is insanely sweet.
FullCreamAhead
A covert little cafe that I must have driven past one hundred times and never noticed. Muharam cafe (Sardi's little sister) is an exciting addition to the family. I ordered the breakfast Trio sliders which were a little underwhelming but not at all a dissapointment. My healthier friend opted for the smoothie bowl from the specials menu. The smoothie component was like a lite chocolate mousee and when combined with the hidden granola....... well....there was nothing left in her bowl by the end. A cosy, modestly priced little cafe aaaaand perfectly HOT coffee.

Today my boyfriend and I were heading to Sardi cafe, but when we saw people waiting outside for a table, we thought we'd give their sister cafe a go. <br/>We easily got a table and were seated promptly which was positive. However it then took roughly 15 minutes for the waiter to reapproach us. And by that I mean I had to get their attention so they could take our order. Considering the cafe was quiet, this was frustrating. <br/>I ordered the smashed avo with poached eggs. To put it simply, I'd rather have waited for a table at Sardi. When it came to the table, one of the eggs had already fallen apart all over the plate. The chia loaf was small and the crust was hard to cut through. The grilled haloumi also didn't add much to the meal. <br/>If it weren't for my big craving for eggs and avo, I probably wouldn't have been satisfied!<br/>We will be sticking to Sardi in the future.
The Fromagerie
Very inconspicuous frontage on this little spot tucked in Burwood Road Hawthorn. We went on a busy Sunday morning and with a short wait, found a table. The food itself is reasonably good - they spend a lot of time on the artistic elements and a lot of people take photos of their breakfast. Thought the food was good overall - lots to like there. <br/><br/>The service needs a rocket but they get there eventually. Always confusing when a table that sits down 10 minutes after you gets their food before you. On a side note - smiles are free, guys. Improves the general vibe rather than the scowl that most of the staff had painted on for the entire time we were there. I heard one senior staff member audibly groan when a customer knocked a glass of water over accidentally.<br/><br/>This is business and you're making money - feel free to charm people beyond the interesting food.

Mixed feelings on this cafe. Highlight was the red velvet pancakes, fluffly, not overly sweet and the warm chocolate was a nice touch. I didn't appreciate the burnt croissant on my breakfast board though, but it was easy enough to scrape the top and bottom to eat it. I'm sure if I said something they would have happily made it again, but my fundamental issue is the chef shouldnt have plated it in the first place. The service was friendly although slow, and the coffee is relatively standard

Red velvet pancakes were amazing. The chocolate sauce worked so well with the red velvet flavouring. Service was also lovely, definitely have to go back again.

Loved this place! Such friendly service! Delicious food! Great environment. A little dark but it was a gloomy day! Ordered the breakfast board with a recommendation from the waitress and was not disappointed at all! Great coffee too! Would recommend! Can't wait to go back!
Food Comatose
Lovely ambience and those divine red velvet pancakes. With our combined research and thorough Instagram stalk, we had already decided that we couldn't go past the Red Velvet Pancakes with cream cheese, strawberries, blueberries and a pot of warm chocolate sauce ($16.50). We also ordered a strong cappuccino ($4.00) and a Prana Chai Masala ($5.00). The pancakes were so thick and fluffy, with a sufficient dollop of cream cheese and diced berries on top. The drizzle of sexy chocolate sauce (not pictured because it was ugly-sexy) perfected the dish, seeping into the dark red cushions and melting with the cream cheese. I struggled to finish all three of them as they were so rich and filling! The cappuccino was gleefully approved by my fellow coffee lover/expert/addict and I relished every last drop of my frothy chai.

Great cafe. Loved the fruit infused water on the table looks fantastic and tastes refreshing. I had the smashed avo with poached eggs. Lovely.

Consistently good. Have tried several different meals here both breakfast & lunch always nice, good value for money with the menu stepping up since recent renovation. service often slow but friendly & never any problems getting a table.

Terrible service. I came here this morning with a group of friends for breakfast. It took 45 mins to receive all of our drinks (coffees of different varieties), and the waitresses avoided our table and seemed put out when we asked for more water. Some friends had ordered 2nd coffees by the time others had finally received their first. Food was average at best, overcooked and nothing special. The only redeeming thing was the red velvet pancakes which were actually quite delicious. Poor service, coupled with no split bills, was enough to make me never want to come back. I work directly across the road and still won't come back.

a couple of weeks ago, pictures of red velvet pancakes kept appearing on my instagram feed and i just had to find out to find out if the visual appeal translated in real life. so the husband + i headed out to hawthorn to muharam café on burwood road. these guys have been open for a while, but recently underwent a renovation and overhaul of their menu, so i was excited to see what the buzz was about. muharam serve niccolo coffee which i was stoked about – love their coffee – and my husband opted for the green smoothie (coconut water, spinach, kiwi + banana) which is an unusual choice for him but he really enjoyed it… nothing like some super greens to kick off your weekend! poached eggs + bacon . the eggs were cooked well with runny yokes + the bacon was crispy and tasty. spiced sweetcorn fritters with red pepper salsa, bacon, avocado + poached eggs. egg yolks were runny and the salsa had a good kick to it. the bacon was excellent. avocado was creamy and fresh. i was disappointed with the corn fritters, they were undercooked so the texture was powdery + a bit doughy. the cafe itself is beautiful, with a gorgeous timber counter running the length of the front room + plenty of foliage

I’m eating meat again!!! (By the end I think I was being vegetarian just to see how long I could last without meat and I started getting sick. I’m thinking, just to have some structure to what I eat, of trying out a revised version of the Paleo Diet – get back to my roots and eat how our ancestors used to eat – because it’s impossible to exist in Melbourne as a young woman and not have some kind of diet to complain about). For my first taste of meat, mum and I decided to go to our favourite neighbourhood café.   Near the corner of Burwood Road and Power Street, in that busy, little shopping strip, is a quaint café called Muharam Cafe. Apparently, it’s named after the owner, Maliq Deane’s, mother, which explains it’s homely feel. Mum and I both went with DIY breakfasts today. I got toast with bacon and baked beans. God I realised how much I miss bacon and those baked beans were delicious. I would love to take a trip around Melbourne and try every cafe's baked beans because there are ver

Blueberry pancakes with mascarpone, maple and toasted hazelnuts will keep little ones (and big ones) happy, while at $16, the classic big breakfast is a steal. Try the wild mushroom stew with roquette, goats' feta and homemade tomato relish for something different.

This is a great little spot! On a busy stretch of Hawthorn is this little gem! Super smily service and good food! AND great coffee! The menu is breakfast, brunch with a great sounding Tandoori Chicken Roti and Lamb Burger and curry YUM! The coffee is lovely, perfectly smooth and creamy - tick tick!! My friend goes for poached eggs on toast with avocado and cream cheese, they look fabulous! Vibrant yolk oooozes onto thick toast. Hmmmm!! My veggie ciabatta with chargrilled eggplant, peppers, tomato, feta and a gorgeous chutney. Lightly toasted ciabatta and generous filling… sublime! Lunch should always this good!

Valentine's Day. Came in today with my wife for breakfast and morning coffee. The lovely waitress quickly found a spot for us so we didn't wait for too long (I wish to say the same about food but unfortunately it took a while untill our meals came out). However everything was really good! The coffee was the best I have ever had, I just couldn't resist to order one more. Overall good job on such a busy day!
Tim
Fantastic breakfast, chef takes pride in the food. Could do with a few more tables and the noise from the barista was a bit over the top!.

The good definitely outweighs the bad. I took my girlfriend to Muharam for breakfast on a Saturday morning. It was our first time there, so we were open minded about what we we expecting. Staff initially told us to wait and someone would seat us, and then after 5 minutes we were told to just find a seat.<br/>After taking a seat, we waited another 5mins for someone to bring over menus and take our coffee order. The coffee took 20mins, and it wasn't until it was brought over that we were asked to order.<br/>We both opted for the Red Velvet Pancakes (see photo). The coffee was great, and proved to be worth the wait. We had both finished our coffees before the food came out, but my word, the wait was worth it. I love pancakes, and have had more than my fair share of good ones, but these were something else.<br/>Do yourself a favour: go to Muharam Cafe on Burwood Rd, and get anything on the menu. It all looked great, but if you want to indulge yourself, the pancakes are a must. The times were a bit slow because they have just reopened, so I would imagine that things will only get better.

In love with Muharam... Found this place through instagram went today for a breakky and really enjoyed it!! The red velvet pancakes were smashing, staff very friendly and my skinny cap just rich and creamy. Definitely will be back!

Good spot tucked away, chicken sandwich is a must try with great Mayo to go with. Great service from all the staff who made sure I was well looked after cant go past the iced coffee. <br/>I'm hooked!
Littleadventuresmelb
15minutes to get a smoothie on a very quiet Monday morning with 4 staff working. Staff were disinterested leaving dirty plates around. Food was ok but for their social media following & 'rave reviews' I question the legitimacy of them.
Erin D
Visited this place after hearing about it from their sister cafe Sardi...however I was very disappointed. Inattentive staff who looked like they had no idea what was going on, waiting 20 minutes for one coffee and a further 10 for the second which was exactly the same. When it finally arrived they were too bitter to enjoy. When the food arrived the pancakes although nice, were drowning in chocolate sauce and the smashed avo was cold and nothing special. We did receive the late coffee for free in the end but it didn't make up for the rather unpleasant experience. Will not be back.

Corn Fritter Bleh. Ordered the corn fritters which were thick and uncooked in the middle :(
AndyC
My favorite weekend spot for a great coffee and croissant. Plus of course the lovely girls are what make Muharam the best cafe in hawthorn!

I really don't know how to appreciate a cafe serving me hard boiled eggs as poached eggs. Th staff there was surprised after seeing my hard boiled eggs and asked 'Oh you like the eggs running?'

Yummy!. Incredibly friendly staff, and amazing food! 10/10 will go again.

We want here for brunch on a weekday so the table of 5 ordered a combination of breakfast and lunch items. Items ordered included: thick cut chips, granola, curries, schnitzel, and baked eggs. Drinks were also varied: fresh orange juice, mocha milkshake, cappuccino, long black.<br/>Every item got a rave review from its diner.<br/><br/>The cafe was cute, quirky and homely. The food was beautiful. The service was friendly. The prices were extremely reasonable and the serves generous.<br/><br/>A simply fantastic place to have breakfast and we will be back.
Cjmcrae1
Very Generous!. I went into the café on Wednesday to grab a coffee. I only had card on me and the lovely lady 'Lilly' I believe, offered me a free coffee!! I was so incredibly grateful and will visit the café again to pay her back. The staff are lovely, the coffee divine and I totally dig the bright yellow coffee cups! Thanks Muharam :)

I work nearby Muharams and it is definitely the most consistent cafe in the area with its great coffees. The service is friendly and quick, and the turkey foccacias are the best I have ever had!

Rose&Harry. Love this place! Delicious food and tasty coffee and the Girls are always lovely and friendly.

Great place for a quick drink or long lunch; lovely staff, delicious food (can't go wrong with the curry! Cakes are excellent also), superb coffee.

Friendly staff. Cute little cafe...though they promote the courtyard but its quite tiny and is usually full. The staff are always smiling and the service is good. Very extensive menu and very good coffee.

Local Fav. This little cafe tucked in amongst Hawthorns busy Burwood rd is a great place to pop in and get great coffee every time.... hard to find these days! They have yummy freshly made muffins and treats every day. I went in just recently and had the perfect item for those who love sweet things..... baklava french toast!!<br/>Definitely worth popping in!

Great, nice staff, good food and coffee, well priced. it could open earlier on the weekends though...

I've been a regular at this local cafe for a good 5 years, and what keeps me coming back are the friendly smiles from familiar faces, great food and the best coffee in the area. I won't go anywhere else!

Yummy. One of my local cafes. I love the big breakfast they do here with the Cannings free range meat from the butcher across the road. I have also had a few other things of the menu which were great, eg. salmon and corn fritters. The lovely ladies that work here always seem to be happy and bustling about. Usually, there is some good looking cakes up at the counter which in my experience are very tasty.

Sorry Emma J. Emma J, thank you for your comments. We at Muharam want to improve and learn from our valued customers views. It would have been so helpful to us if you had advised us on the day that you were so unhappy. Please visit us again and we will do our utmost to change your opinion of Muharam.

Food's good, coffee 's good, service's good and prices are reasonable...i'm happy it's in my local area.

I have been for brunch all over Melbourne and I still keep coming back to Muharam, it really is a perfect example of a local cafe where you can find consistently delicious breakfast and brunch! Friends and I often have poached eggs on toast with an array of sides, or the big breakfast, or porridge - all are amazing! Lucky for us it's just around the corner, but even if we moved we would keep coming back. Give it a go people, you won't regret it!
TST_Girl
The most amazing scrambled eggs on toast!!
Aisha
My local. My partner and I live just down the street from Muharam and have been regulars there for about a year now. We are there every weekend either to grab take-away coffees or sit down and have breakfast. We are never disappointed. The staff are friendly and I'm always happy with my coffee (which as a former barista I have high standards for). I love the mushroom stew and the corn-fritters- can't say I've strayed from those choices. My partner loves the BLAT sandwich that was on the menu when we first started going to Muharam and almost a year on they never fail to accomodate his request when he asks if it's available :) We'll happily continue returning to Muharam!

I don't normally like having brunch, but when I choose to make an exception, Muharam Cafe is always my #1 pick! The service is wonderful (!) and the atmosphere is very relaxing, particularly the live music on Sundays. Let's not forget what makes the star of the cafe - the food! The chicken salad (both kinds) are to die for and the Sweet Corn fritters are my favorite dish, hands down! If you're looking for a nice place to chill out with mates on the weekend, I highly recommend this cafe.

Needs improving. Went for brekky last week and although the food and coffee were OK, the staff were a bit all over the place. Asked of for water three times before it arrived and then with a dirty glass and warm water. It seemed that there were not enough glasses and they were being washed by hand as required and then given straight to customers. Muffins etc are displayed uncovered on the counter near the register and customers stand over them coughing etc. Not sure how hygienic that is!! Place looks a bit tacky and needs a freshen up but food was OK.
Robin
Yummy. Croissants, cheerful staff

Picked at random for lunch. Sophie had eggplant ciabatta, I had shredded chicken salad. Both good fresh wholesome feeds. The salad portion was huge! Sophie helped me finish it. Staff friendly, service prompt, every table occupied! Live acoustic band added to the atmos. Only minor negative was kind of rundown bathrooms with broken gadgets :-/ Everything else great.

Used to be good. This place used to be great. Has recently gone downhill in terms of time it takes to get your food, and also portion size. <br/><br/>The steak sandwich is amazing, as are the curries. I will occasionally get a takeaway curry. These days you are lucky if the container is half full though. <br/><br/>Very disappointing. Get your act together muharam. I used to love you.

Mmmm. Good coffee and great place for brunch!
C M
Cute Hole-in-the-Wall. Hyperbole isn't necessary in reviews, so i won't use it. I will say that Muharam has great coffee, friendly service and a funky subcontinental style. <br/>The location is tricky for the operators, as locals already have plenty to choose from in the way of cafes. These guys will succeed if they continue to focus on the quality of their coffee and offer consistent, friendly hospitality. And in this already crowded market it will be a job well done..
Boccadellaveritas
Worst Brunch Ever. I was thrilled to book a table for 6 for Sunday brunch. The staff were friendly, but the first hint of trouble came when my wife's hotcakes arrived 10 minutes before any other food and were stone cold. This matter was brought to the attention of the friendly staff who apologised and said the matter would be corrected. The rest of the breakfasts arrived with poached eggs the consistency of rubber and the fried eggs actually looked like rubber. The homemade beans were chilled. It couldn't get any worse right? Then the same hotcakes my wife had sent back arrived after everyone else had push their plates away. To our amusement the hotcokes had a couple of bits out of them (we are presuming from my wife's first attempt to eat them) accompanied by the original whipped cream that had curtled when the hotcakes were reheated in the microwave. It was not pretty. 3 day old Piklets from a 12 year old home economics class would have tasted better. Utterly disgusting food.

Best brekky ever. This place by far serves the best breakfast , and a good size portion, especially if you are hungry. pity i don't live local so i could come more often. i heard about this place through friends. service is friendly but had to get the waitress attention to take our order.

The Perfect Breaky Experience. I used to live locally and have breaky here every weekend, unfortunately i have now moved quite far away but will still stop by when I am in the area for one of Sarah's, (the owner) fabulous Coffees, the best in Hawthorn. <br/>The Breakfast here was always spot on, whether it was the Scrambled eggs, Bircher Museli or pancakes. I wouldnt change a thing, i think the team in here consistantly do a great job and are very attentive, and the standard of food is always top notch. <br/>For Lunch I would also recommend the Crusty Rolls or the Curry. <br/>I will always recommend to friends and will be back whenever I can make the trek:)

Fantastic food. I'm a regular customer at Muharam cafe. When ever i go to Muharam, the food and service never seizes to amaze. The diverse menu allows me to continually try out different meals, however my old favourites such as the curries, are an apatite pleaser. <br/><br/>I read a couple of the last reviews, especially the one that drags on and on about the "sulky waitress" and how "[the] service is horrendous". Muharam cafe is a place where good service and fine food are continually provided to each and every customer. I always bring new friends and work colleges to this cafe and they always respond with the same comments - "fantastic food and friendly service".<br/><br/>To anyone who is reading this and you haven't been to that café, don't feed yourself of other peoples experiences; go and try it for yourself.

Best big breakfast I have ever had, and I've had a few! Tomoto was sweet and the spinach was delicious, perfectly poached eggs too! Cute area out the back.

Never going back. I used to love this place. Used to. The food is still pretty good, but the service is horrendous. I guess Sarah wasn't able to maintain the high level of service herself and took on extra staff. Unfortunately, at least one of the staff is such a poor representative for the cafe that I am never going back.<br/><br/>The last time I went to Muharam, the sulky waitress in question brought me a menu. 15 minutes later after she had left the menu with me, I managed to catch the eye of one of the other staff with whom I then left my order - a main and a drink.<br/><br/>Another 15 minutes later, the original sulky waitress came to take my order. <br/><br/>30 minutes to wait to order is ridiculous in such a small cafe as this. And I'm not the only one who had to wait. I saw a table of 3 constantly try to catch a waitress to give her their order for at least 20 minutes.<br/><br/>My meal arrived - my drink never did.<br/><br/>When I went to pay, the sulky waitress tried to charge me for the drink I never received. When I told her that I did not receive my drink, she changed the amount to just the main. I did not receive any apology for (a) not receiving my drink; or (b) being charged for it. <br/><br/>A small cafe such as Muharam that relies on local regulars should take care of their local regulars. <br/><br/>I would NOT recommend this placed based solely on the service. There are at least 2 other great cafes on Burwood Rd within 30 steps. Go somewhere where there's better service.<br/><br/>Sarah, you need to change your staff, or at least their attitude.

Best eggs. One of my regular places. Scrambled eggs are great, as are the homemade baked beans. They use a fair bit of oil in the cooking though, but it's ok, cause it's just so good.

Great scrambled eggs. Sarah's scrambled eggs are great - moist, creamy, tasty.<br/>Not a fan of the thick chunk of sour dough toast that some places like serving

GOOD FOOD - VALUE FOR MONEY. I was at the Muharram Cafe this morning and had one of their brekky meals. It was a good dish, very oriental, but suiting the palate of one who is not in to spicy stuff. The prices are smart and is good value for money. I would recommend this cafe to my freinds.

Seriously love what they've done with the place and was excited to see it on it's first day of trading. Muharam Cafe
