I’ve had the enchilada style burrito 3 times and every time it’s been amazing. HUGE, satisfying, and delicious. Split it in half an habe only ever been able to finish half. Well worth the price
Best burritos in Melbourne hands down. Massive! Lots of meat options. Also 4 veg options. Great for our family who eats a mix of both. Great homemade corn chips. Yummy corn. Great tacos with double shells.
Food was amazing! Great ambience too. So happy to see delicious Vegan options!

I was so excited when Bay City Burrito opened in St Kilda. The Hawthorn location has now been open for several years, it serves up the same fun, fresh and tightly wrapped burritos in a relaxed atmosphere. But the menu has developed to now include vegan options and more vego ones too.
Really enjoyed their food! Went here on a lunch break with some friends and we always have such a good feed! Chips are soooo good and enjoyed my burrito! 😀
By far the best burritos in Melbourne or even Australia. Been true to themselves for years and never changed. Always receive the perfect burrito. I recommend this place to anyone who loves Mexican food.
The pulled pork burrito and quesadillas were great. Staff were attentive. Table service. Theres an Off Menu of more items. Would return. 50% off food on TheFork website for the next 2 weeks.
Best burritos in Melbourne!
You really can't go wrong with this place. My favourite thing to order until recently was the breakfast burrito - because I am a firm believer that breakfast food is the best kind of food!
My most recent favourite order is the new pulled jackfruit vegan burrito! Thanks for bringing out such a delicious vegan menu item, that I just can't get enough of!I'm also usually a fan of ordering the full burrito and not a bowl, but the burrito bowls here really are outstanding and you don't really feel like you're missing the tortilla!TIP: ALWAYS order with extra guac - nothing better!
I just want to say that for me, the burritos here truly are the best, not just in Melbourne, but up there with the best I've ever had, including some glorious ones from around California. Have almost any of their offerings "enchilada style", and make sure you get some sour cream and guac in with each mouthful. Just wow. The steak is so tasty, tender and juicy. Each burrito is always absolutely packed - you can tell they're not trying to short change you on the fillings. I appreciate the well-chosen selection of hot sauces available in-store, but if you like your food spicy then simply go for the "nuclear" salsa option straight into your burrito. If somehow that's not enough, the jalapeno poppers here are fantastic too!
Thanks, Bay City Burrito! No doubt, I'll be back again soon :-)

I believe this is my first Mexican food experience, and definitely not the last time I’m having it. I am glad I came here for my first time, we were served by a friendly staff. The venue has a cool neon light sign and funky decor, gives off a great relaxed vibe🌵.
.
We got the BAY CITY BOMBER ($18.7) 🌯, seems to be their signature burrito. It included steak & chicken, black beans, Spanish rice, melted cheese, guacamole, lime sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes… They are not wrong. It’s massive and could be split between two people. The ingredients are pretty fresh, meat is juicy and tender. NACHOS LOCOS ($16.8), I only had Doritos before, not a big fan of it. I guess I haven’t had the real deal until now. Tortilla chips were covered with queso cheese, pico de gallo, black beans, guacamole and sour cream. It was such a treat!👅👄
.
Everything was absolutely delicious and generously sized, I can’t wait to come back and try all the tacos 🌮 and more burrito of coz! 🇲🇽🇲🇽
Great service, came in right when they had opened and whilst it was quiet all food was served promptly. Serving sizes are huge and next time will probably order the enchilada + sides for two people rather than a huge burrito each. Enchilada was absolutely amazing, worth the hype.
It is a nice little restaurant located on the busy street and closed to the uni. I like the inside decor with the vivid colour.
We ordered Jalapeño poppers as the starters and I strongly recommend this one. I think it also could be accepted by those who don’t like the spicy as well. The jalapeños have crispy coating and juicy inside. Watch out when you biting because all the melting, and hot cheese would ooze out. They are well seasoned and creamy, just full of the flavour. This dish is a must!
For the main, we ordered Bay City Bomber and Enchilada style burrito. I saw online others reviews said the bay city bomber is too big for one person to eat. Yes, it is bigger than the normal size of the burrito but if shared by two people, probably more sides or starters need to be ordered. (Or maybe I have big appetite ;D ) All the ingredient were mixed well and the black beans in the burrito impressed me. The other Enchilada style burrito also tasted yum. Also the good side of this one is that you can use the knife and fork to have it to avoid mess up.
Really like this restaurant, and will be back again to try different dishes.
We had the chips and salsa, pulled pork, Cajun chicken and the cheese quesadilla for miss 5
Highlight was the pulled pork burrito - great mix of flavours. The hot salsa was also worth mentioning, lovely house made salsa with a good warmth. The Cajun chicken burrito was a little disappointing- it was just a bit soggy and not spicy at all
The service was super helpful and friendly.
Did you know Burritos actually originated from San Fran ? Neither did I until I came here where I was educated and then educated some more with some damn delicious food !
We started our meal with the jalapeno poppers which were extremely fresh and just had enough spice, these were filled with cheese and had a great dipping sauce
We then ordered the Enchilada Style Burrito which was covered in Ranch and Queso , the filling was extremely fresh and you could tell they try and load as much ingredients as possible in for you! One of the best burritos I’ve tried in Melbourne.
The Prawn Tacos Picante was another dish we shared, the prawns were juicy and in a Cajun sauce, the tortillas we were advised were from the States. The guacamole that was included in the dish was nice and vibrant, seasoned well and plentiful. This was another dish that was outstanding
Thanks for having us !
My boyfriend and I tried bay city burrito at the start of the year - fast forward 11 months and we can safely say this is one of our favourite and most visited restaurants. The staff are friendly and efficient, and the food is incredible!
First up, I love the name of this place! "Bay City Burrito" just rolls off the tongue and if you shorten it to "BCB", it sounds pretty hip....to me anyway. So my first visit to BCB was almost faultless. Service was super quick and straight to the point.
The jalapeño poppers were dangerously addictive - I could've popped them in my mouth all day long.
The giant sized enchilada style burrito was packed full of goodness and drenched in some sort of cheese sauce that should be bottled and sold everywhere!
Unfortunately the tacos were a bit hit and miss for me. I fell in love with the fish taco but the steak in the street taco was a bit tough (but tasty). The pulled jackfruit taco didn't do it for me but kudos to BCB for having such an interesting item on their menu.
So BCB is my new BFF and I will BRB at the drop of a hat! Well done BCB!
Highly recommend: Quesadilla pulled pork and taco
Positive: fresh food, heaps of food option, good customer service
Atmosphere: fun and ‘scary’ night as whole restaurant was decorated with Halloween decorations and staff in costumes. Get free magaritas if you show up in your best halloween costume today !
Negative: thai chicken burrito tasted weird but would be interested to try other burrito options
My favourite mexican joint in Melbourne. Worth the extra $$ compared your standard mexican franchises. Service is always great and the food is always consistent. Please bring back my favourite burrito (the bombay!!), I miss it so much.
We headed to Bay City Burrito, a place we have frequented many times before, for a quick dinner. I like to make my own but it probably makes more financial sense to order one and customise as my own cost $18.30 and for .40 cents more you can get the bay city bomber which is their biggest burrito and comes with the lot.
Kind of expensive for a burrito with no chips or anything but I love them. One day I’m going to try their guacamole ice cream!
Nachos & tacos & burritos! Bay City is the way to go!
I came here on a Wednesday night - post gym and craving corn chips and guac, one of the best places in town that actually knows how to make nachos!
We had such a feast here at Bay City Burrito, Hawthorn! We dined in on a Saturday night and it was full throughout the evening and we can understand why! We shared the homemade tortilla chips with delicious guacamole and salsa, jalapeno poppers and the must try corn on the cob! The Fish taco was really one of our favorites and we also ordered the jackfruit taco however we felt that it lacked an element of crunch. We also ordered the Bay City buritto and it was packed full of goodness!
Absolutely delicious!! The Gauc and salsa sampler was fantastic! The tortilla chips..fresh!! The pulled pork SOMA Quesadilla was especially delicious! Chicken street tacos were fresh and what I imagine tacos maybe like in Mexico! The sangria was not the most amazing however the margherita was yum yum yum! Great service!
Have visited multiple times and never been disappointed. Stand out items are the Bay City Bomber (when you pick it up you can feel the sheer weight of it) & the Fisherman's Wharf. The burrito's are full of flavour and it's great that food is made fresh every order & not on a pre cooked assembly line like other burrito places. Another awesome bonus is that they are in the entertainment book & a part of the 'Frequent Values Dining' program as well.
YUMMY.... burritos & enchiladas! can't find a better Mexican eatery in Melbourne...all ingredients tasted fresh & packed with flavour & with the right proportions... plus all their staff were friendly and helpful too!
Always love coming to eat here, definitely, some of the best burritos I've ever had. I've had the chance to visit both of their venues and I have to say that I absolutely loved each visit. Top place.
Really solid mexican! Tried here after a football game on way home glad we did. The corn is amazing and the burriotto are great. The meats inside were done to perfection.
I love this place. By far the best nachos i have had so far. I love the san fransisco art work with the pops of giants colours !
Unfortunentley the DIY chimichuri burrito i was let down by ( forgot to take a picture). I believe it needed something like guacamole or sour cream on the side just to freshen it up.It was abit bland and when i put it all in the tortilia, there wasnt much sauce.
The Mrs had the fishermans warf burrito and loved it ! cant complain. I will have to try the burrito if I go back.
Drinks were very good also ! i had tommys margireta which was awesome.
Very attentive service, very friendly, food was amazing and quite fast. We had a steak la fajita burrito, a chicken cabo supreme burrito, jalapeno poppers and sangria. Would recommend and will be back
Bay city bomber was about the size I expected, and maybe slightly above average meat quality. I love Chipotle burritos in the USA and I think this would be the closest I could find in Australia.
Always drawn to this place when I'm in the mood for a nice big burrito 😊
Nice Mexican atmosphere and music playing in the background. Also serves Margaritas.
I ate here for the first time with two friends. I was pleasantly surprised at how authentic and delicious the food was. The staff were also friendly and welcoming. Can’t fault this place, will definitely be coming back.
Best burritos EVER!! Seriously, there is NO comparison to the large franchises such as Guzman. Bay City are filling, nutritious & full of flavour with quality meats, such as lean chicken & fresh fish, prawns. They are also accommodating & more than happy to have you customize your order i.e. mixing & matching, add ons, extra toasting etc. (great for particular customers like myself!) Super friendly staff, great beer selection & weekday specials. I do miss the Bombay burrito, but apparently they sometimes make a special guest appearance on Thursdays :) Keep up the steller work Bay City (& start a store in Collingwood!)
Excellent friendly service.
I was given a best restaurants gift card which I used here.
I had the vegan Everest burrito with vegan cheese that included Everest burrito: red potato, mushrooms, ginger, garlic Spanish onions, green chili Nepali spices, Spanish rice, cilantro, black beans in a Roma tomato tortilla. (It was HUGE- generous serving, lovely filling but it was a bit spicy for me ( I hiccup when I have chili).
The kids had corn...
Nothing like good Mexican food. Large chicken nachos hit the spot 👌🏻 Really homey and cute decor, and nice atmosphere. Hot spot for locals so can get quite busy but worth the wait! Would definitely go back.
Had the best experience at Bay City Hawthorn tonight! The food was fantastic, had a bean burrito and nachos and it really hit the spot. The staff were friendly in particular the guy that took our order/ on the registers; not sure of his name, but he was fantastic and hospitable and made our experience worth the 45 minute drive. Will be returning soon!
Great place to eat. Good portion and very nice service. Quesadilla with pork was the highlight. The burrito with steak was also very tasty with the steak very well cooked.
We LOVE this place! Have been coming here for foods and the food is always amazing. Try the Nachos Locos. Holy cow it's good! The staff are always friendly and they have some great beers. The naked burrito and fish tacos are also standouts. Very laid back place that's worth checking out any day of the week. Definitely recommend

On our revisit I made a point of deliberately avoiding the ever-so-delicious Cabo Supreme (chicken) to try something new. Good move!
While the rest of the family enjoy the thrill of 'make your own' burrito, I am happy to trust in the menu - and I have not been steered wrong. The Fisherman's Wharf with crispy fish and fresh salads was delicious with a fabulous hum of heat. I especially enjoyed the occasional bite of pineapple sweetness.
We also really enjoyed the SOMA Quesadillas and the Pawn Tacos Picante, though there was a hiccup with those arriving - but the service is good here, so we'd not needed to ask, an apology for the wait came with the dish.
Sangria was a bit of alright too. Bay City Burrito has impressed us a second time around.Edit: I still can't take a decent photo of a burrito.
=============================================================
I can't get a half-decent photo of a burrito. No matter how good they taste, I can't make them look delicious. The good thing was, once my Cabo Supreme Burrito was served, I really didn't mind - I was more interested in eating - and two hands were absolutely required.
Lots of blonde wood in this casual eatery, friendly and helpful waitress too, the staff seemed to be enjoying themselves on a 'just busy enough' Monday night.
Finally I had the chance to try a Jalapeno Popper - and they were worth the wait. Three perfectly crumbed jalapenos were filled with molten orange cheese. There's a lovely dipping sauce to go with, to cool the taste buds in need. I suspect the need is more from the heat of cooking than any slight chilli hit here. Mucho mucho yummy. I mean, really, melty cheese in a chilli that's deep fried. C'mon!
We shared a Nachos Especial - a posh version of other Mexican places' 'Supreme' - for all that it was a tad classier...if you can say that about finger food.
While my dining partners chose to go their own way, building their burritos, I found enough temptation in the Cabo Supreme. You can choose your meat in this anyway, I went with chicken. I would struggle to deviate from this course if I were to return.
The only let-down for me was the Refried Beans. I know what a good one should taste like, but as a stand-alone side, mine was far too strongly flavoured with processed or raw garlic. Pity, within The Lovely Man's own version of a burrito, the flavour melded well-enough.
A Mandarin Margarita was a bit of a special indulgence, I enjoyed very much. House-Made tortilla chips a lovely point of difference, when they're on the bench, still warm, for a little nibble. The freshness of the ingredients was clear.
No room to try the Guacamole Gelato.
Parking around here's dreadful, even on a Monday, so a revisit will be rare, but the food certainly is worth coming back for.
Had a hiccup with delivery but it wasn't their fault. Uber eats drivers stuffed them around. They had to recook our order but when it did arrive the food was awesome! Their Jalapeno poppers are some of the best I've had
We came here on a Saturday, place was pumping as expected. We were looked after by Anastasia who was extremely friendly and generous. The rest of the staff did an outstanding job getting great food out as fast as they could manage.
For a quick bite with a drink each it's great value for under $40 for 2 people. Come here when the beers are on special and it's even better '
I'm not good at English so I was nervous when I ordered. But the cashier was really nice. Burrito was also nice too. I wanna try other menu in here.
Cassidy – We went to Bay City Burrito for a takeaway dinner. I got the Cabo Supreme with pork, no Pico de Gallo. I quite liked it! The avocado in it made the burrito really creamy and filling. A simple dish and I would go back again to get it. Service was also great.
Sneakers – I had the Bay City Bomber and it was quite tasty. It’s my second Bay City Bomber and they were both pretty much identical. Personally the only downsides are the temperature is more warm than hot and it could have used with a dash of hot sauce and a squirt of lime to make the flavour really pop (though I’m sure these items are available for dine in customers). I’m sure we would return if we were in the area again.

Burritos are great, I've had the Bay City bomber and it's massive, great value for money. The Soma quesadilla is really good also. The staff are really friendly and the food is fairly quick. The decor is simple but it is nice to sit outside and enjoy some awesome food while watching the world. I also love the fact the they have Mexican beers available for purchase 👌
My Mexican food experience was very limited to the fast food chain one. My partner told me Bay City was a very special one and I should give it a go.
When we got there, I didn't notice how special it was apart from the cactus next to the door.
When we started to order the food on the register, the staff was exceptionally patient and friendly to explain what we can put in the burrito. We probably put everything we can in the burrito.
The burrito turned out to be very very delicious. The meat was juicy, tender, and fresh. Rice and bean harmoniously blended together.
Pulled pork nacho was nice too. Sauce and bean were surprising nice in the dish.
We will definitely come back for the burrito.
This is place is worth a visit if you like or want to try Mexican food. Service is prompt and friendly. Located on a corner of Glenferrie road, if you intend takeaway note that parking is not easy and you may find yourself parking down a side street with a decent walk during peak times.
The setting is casual catering to takeaway and a quick bite so do not expect table service. Ingredients are fresh, tasty and the burritos are on the higher price end but it's reflected in a bigger portion size, having one that seemed like 30cm long. Ingredients are well blended, not burnt and not overloaded with rice. It's nice to not feel extras like guacamole being pushed. Corn chips are big, homemade and crunchy.
Packaging for takeaway is tight and well wrapped, so I've never had any drips and food is kept warm. Best to ring ahead and order prior to making a pick up as the ingredients are cooked to order.
Specials are sometimes available during the week and it's a great seachange from the larger mexican chains.
We went on a Friday at about 2:30 and there weren't that many people on the shop. Not a good sign u think? Well we were wrong. The service was great and the food was spectacular. Best nachos I have ever had. I highly recommend this place
I've never been to this place, but we've had UberEATS from here many times! It's actually amazing! So fresh, tasty and good quality I love it.
Bay City Burrito is my local go-to place for Mexican.
Perhaps it's not the swankiest or even the cheapest in the street, but it has massive chunky burritos and plenty of other options. Mexican beer and soft drink available. $10 margaritas.
Music is usually contemporary Latino rhythms. Service okay. Outdoor seating. Happy hours and specials if you go at the right time.
Judging on past experiences, I was never a fan of burritos so when my boyfriend decided to take me to Bay City I wasn't too overly excited. Once I had entered the restaurant, I thought I'd give it another try considering the last time I ate a burrito was about 6 years ago. We ordered the La Fajita and wow, it was good. The meat was so fresh and tender. The burrito was perfectly cooked and the ingredients inside all complimented each other so well - nothing over powered another. It was so good that I couldn't resist the temptation of a half eaten burrito (given how full I was), I had to eat it all. You must check out Bay City Burrito if you're in the area!
Tried this place out and scored on the 5 dollar Tuesday tacos. Order at the counter and the staff were lovely and patient. The taco esp the fish was yummy. I enjoyed it. More of a place for a quick bite as the ambience is really non existence.
Bay City Burrito serves up some awesome Mexican dishes. It has all the usual burrito and taco items on the menu, but you can also pick and choose your own ingredients to get exactly what you want. Their food is fresh and generously sized. Very satisfying and would recommend!. Nachos Locos $15 (with extra Pulled Pork +$3) Loaded with Black Beans, Guacamole and Sour Cream
Have eaten in before and have been satisfied but not blown away. Decided to order with uber eats and the food is stone cold and inedible.
Will not be visiting again after the response from the store when we rang to complain.
Updated, just got a response to my complaint very impressed with the response. Very good service from the guy who called
Nachos are delicious! Love the cheesy sauce. Only downside is the tiny serving of guacamole which does not make me happy at all, especially for the price.
The only thing i can comment on as the only thing ive eaten here is the bay city bomber.... Absolutely amazing. It tastes fresh and yummy. Definitely not particularly flavoursome if thats what you're after but the bang for buck is definitely there.
My favourite at home uber eats order! I always get the gluten free option of a bowl, and have never been disappointed. My boyfriend and male housemate also thoroughly enjoy the food. It's important, I never know if the portions are good unless they are happy. I would definitely recommend. Fresh and full of flavour.
Good level Mexican takeaway food, well worth a visit! Food was tasty and good portion size! Tacos were all really nice and pretty authentic.
Want a burrito? Come here!
I came here last week and ordered the 'la fajita' burrito with high expectations based on what I've heard and the reviews I read.
It was $15.60 so reasonably priced considering the burrito is medium-large in size. And the wait was around 10 minutes which was good.
Omg took a bite and it was heaven! The punch of flavours were all there all there and they complimented eachother so well :) the rice inside wasn't overlooked nor under which was a bonus!
Anyone who is in hawthorn or around the area and is looking for something Mexican, come here :)
5/5 - this place is the best!
Got ubereats for dinner tonight from the Glenferrie store as went to St Kilda a few times and it was great and this was some of the best tasting Mexican!
Had the chicken burrito and kids size chicken burrito and they were full of chicken that had great flavour; rice and beans. So good.
Deconstructed nachos such a good idea / love the queso that comes with them and again the chicken tastes amazing. So many little condiments too.
Just had the Bay City Bomber - excellent burrito, really well balanced. Delivered by Uber Eats all the way to Collingwood. What a time to be alive!
This is by far my favourite Mexican restaurant ever. The park carnitas is amazing - whether it's in their taco or on their nachos. The ability to convert any burrito to a burrito bowl is so good and you're also able to make your own burrito as well. The only draw back is theu aren't the cheapest restaurant but they have cheap taco Tuesdays and honestly the food is worth it.
As an American living in Melbourne, I can honestly say this is a little slice of home for me! These burritos are some of my favorite, and how often I crave them is embarrassing! Great flavors, great value, and the staff are always lovely. Sometimes the salsa gets a bit too much juice in the burrito, but the staff recommended I order "half the amount of salsa" and now my burritos are perfect. Build You Own is my favorite way to go, and of course add the Three Amigos. The owner is always chatty and friendly when he's around.
Tasty fresh burritos, nothing too special. Friendly staff and not too busy. Special burrito was huge! Will probably return as it wasnt disappointing
Nice place in Hawthorn for some Burrito's and Taco's. Friends took us here for a social night out. We got the fish and prawn tacos.
Tacos were stacked full. They come with a bit heat in the sauce but place offers hot sauce for added heat. Also you can add to the flavours i.e. Pineapple or guacamole.
The pulled pork burrito is what our friend got and packed full and is very delicious.
Best burito- can't fault them at all! My favourite is the Californian which is filled with veggie options and rice. Great size for the price you pay and staff are super friendly at both stores.
Awesome and delicious. Nothing better then walking out with a thick packed out burrito. So tasty and so many options. If you are after a serious challenge the nuclear salsa option will definitely knock you back.
This place is really great for a cheap meal. $9.50 for a plate of nachos is really a bargain if you compare the prices at other Mexican restaurants. Plus these nachos are some of the best nachos I've eaten, so any time I feel like nachos I always go to Bay City Burrito.
My friends also love the burritos - the burritos are a good size as well.
great service lovely staff and amazing food! Sells the best burrito in town if your looking for some good Mexica food in glenferrie this is the place to be!
The food here is pretty good, the soft shell tacos always go down a treat, and the burritos are also excellent.
The service here is always top notch - it's amazing how much a friendly person at the counter can make a difference to the dining experience.
It has quickly become one of my favourite Mexican restaurants.
I love bay city burrito! It has fantastic and friendly service and excellent burritos! I will be back again and again. Please come out to Doncaster or Eastland!!??
Absolutely brilliant service and food!
A nice niche corner shop that serves one of the best fish tacos I've eaten in Melbourne. Flavours were just a party in your mouth.
This place gets pretty busy during dinner service so it's best to go early or make a reservation.
Would like to see their drinks selection either on the menu or displayed for everyone to see rather than just hidden away in the fridge.
Overall spectacular experience, service was fast and friendly and food tasted awesome!
This is our go to Mexican place. Food is awesome. The bay city bomber is huge and we can share it if we chose. There's kids items on the menu which our kids love.
Had the bay city. It's big! It's got rice and black beans inside
Long wait time on a Saturday night (35mins and lots of apologies)
Fonda has better quality food, but this place got better serving size

Best place for Mexican in Hawthorn. Everything here is fresh and tasty.
The bomber burrito is massive, could definitely feed two people. The La Fajita is also very good and I’ve heard good things about the Baja.
Nachos are also very good with an awesome cheese sauce.
Coming here on a Tuesday is pretty cheap, with $5 tacos and beers.
The American guy who works the front counter is an absolute legend, always friendly and clearly cares about customer satisfaction. Definitely deserves a raise. Burritos are always on point. This place is the best!

Bay City Burrito is one awesome place for a filling Mexican feed. Very nice comfy atmosphere inside. Now that Spring is here, it's great to feel the outside air with their bi fold doors open.
It's a great place for lunch or even a cheap dinner. One word of warning, you'd better be hungry! All their food is quite carb intensive and will fill you up majorly. Some of my favourite burritos include the fisherman's wharf and surf & turf. The surf and turf has steak pieces and juicy prawns. Magical combination.
Their tortilla chips and with guacamole & salsa sampler is also really good to share. Their tacos are also great! Sometimes they have some grilled corn too which is not normally on the menu. The flavours are really good with all the items I've tried and you won't be disappointed. Prices are probably just a tad higher than other shopping centre food court Mexican places, but it's well worth it.
The lady that served me was also very lovely and courteous. Great customer service with good food ensures I'll keep coming back.
Great food and they even deliver! Clearly labelled, filling and even healthy if you have one of the low fat options.. Amazing! Will deffo order again.

Craving a tex-mexican meal that has a huge variety of burritos, or even the crispiest nachos? Porque no los dos?? I’ll say it now – definitely one of the top burritos in Melbourne. That is if you don’t mind it being very far from authentic. Here we have a Baycity Burrito, an amazing Tex-mexican food along Glenferrie rd, Hawthorn. First thing you notice when you enter is the welcoming interior. Just a whole load of vibrant colours contrasted with the warm coloured wood found on the tables and on the roof. Instantly loved this place.
I grew up in Arizona on the Mexican boarder, I know what good Mexican food is like. Honestly, this is my favourite Mexican restaurant in Melbourne. Of course nothing in Australia has come close to the perfection of authentic Mexican food, but Bay City burrito comes closest. The tacos are delicious and adequately sized and the burritos are mammoth, especially the Bay City Bomber (I suggest the Cabo Supreme). I am obsessed with the salsa, which I swear is the same recipe as my favourite Mex spot in AZ (The 'Hot' salsa). Yes there are some minor things that bug me: The quality of steak seems to differ consistently, sometimes perfect sometimes chewy. And the Chips/ Salsa sizes are wrong. You either get not enough or way too much. These are both very small issues as 99% of the time everything is perfect. You can't go wrong with Bay City Hawthorn!
Had the La Fajita Burrito and it was extremely tasty and filling! Friendly service and watching your food get made is always fun...would definitely recommend!
Mexican food seems to be very popular in Melbourne at the moment! Although very westernise Mexican food the food is great. Nachos are a bit small though.
Great place, yummy food, friendly staff! Always very accommodating and happy to help. Casual dining, family atmosphere, but not too noisy. Lovely owner who is always happy to chat and is very friendly and wanting to make sure we have a great time at his place! Lovely :) also has the rewardle system in place, cool!
Expensive Delicious Habit.

It seems I am slightly obsessed with Mexican food. I think it's because it's delicious, obviously, but also that they always have a good vegetarian array. After a bit of urbanspooning for a casual Thursday night dinner date with my girlfriend S, we decided on High Tech Burrito: relatively close to home, and S had been wanting to try it for a while.
Fast, fresh and made your way! The High Tech Burrito has arrived from California and delivers super fresh Mexican and gourmet burritos. The fit out is easy going and the staff are lovely! High Tech Burrito can be created off the menu or you can create your own! We go for a few plates to share so we can try all the good stuff - it's pretty hard to decide what to have but the Nachos are a definite! Warm tortilla chips smothered in home made Queso sauce and topped with fresh Pico de Gallo - pretty good! The Pico de Gallo is fab plenty of onion and coriander YUM!! The Street Taco with pork and chopped onions, coriander, red chili salsa and melted cheese in grilled corn tortillas are absolutely AMAZING! Heaps of tender pork with piles of finely diced, almost sweet onions. Tasty grilled taco and get your hot sauce going to really bring out the flavours! YUM ! Read more at my blog
... the Bay City Special ($13.9), a soft tortilla stuffed tight with cheese, beans, Spanish rice, mild salsa, and two meats of our choice – we went with steak and chicken. We both really enjoyed the traditional mess of flavours in this burrito, and there was plenty of salsa to give the rice and carbs a whole lot of flavour.
One of my favourite Mexican foods is burritos and High Tech Burritos in Hawthorn serves up some of the most delicious burritos I’ve had. I’ve been to High Tech Burrito many times since its opening a few years back and it still stands as my favourite burrito restaurant.
Recommended. Bean & cheese burrito never disappoints!
Best Burritos in Melbourne (no contest).. Finally a Mexican restaurant in Melbourne done right. Right in the middle of scenic Lygon Street, this is a Mexican lovers treat.
Food: Excellent, this isn't your standard chain Tex-Mex restaurant food that most Aussie's are used to, this is prepared with care and creativity. Full of flavor and texture, you'll never think the same way about Mexican again. (10)
Ambience: For those sick of crazy crap on the walls and being surrounded by token sombreros and ponchos, relax. The atmosphere is much more intimate with a very modern decor right on Lygon Street. My only complaint would be that it does get busy. (9)
Service: The staff are very friendly. Excellent customer service!!! (10)
Value: At the end of the day, yes, you will pay probably around $3 to $5 more a meal. But to honest Mexican is usually over priced anyway. Having said that, it's really not that much more than you'll pay at a suburban restaurant, but the quality of the food will be ten times better. The drinks are pretty standard city restaurant prices. Overall, if you love Mexican, this will raise the bar for you. (9.25/10)
One of the best. Amazing food and value for momey
Visited for lunch today and had the Cajun Picante burrito and chicken quaesadilla. Yum. Also love it when a place has mango flavoured Jarritos. Quick service and very friendly.
Nuclear sauce is bloody hot. Don't touch anywhere near your eyes while eating.
Gluten free perfect. This place has heaps of variety that is gluten free or they can change some thing to make it gluten free for you.
As a bonus the food is amazingly good.
Good food but expensive for what it is. Once you've added a few things to your small 'MYO' burrito, it ends up costing $17-$20. Since when does a handful of chicken, rice beans and some avocado cost $17? Pretty expensive for a casual take away place.
Pretty good. I had the skinny chicken, healthier option. A bit too much rice, might swap it for beans next time. Good service and food came out at an acceptable time.
Cabo supreme with pork, add cilantro and pinto beans. The best. Ask for the ghost chili if you're game :-)
Fresh, tasty food. Fast service. Had the tortilla chips with guacamole and street taco with beef. Yum!
Delicious. Really tasty burritos! I had the chicken low fat burrito with pineapple salsa, black beans, brown rice and guacamole. The chicken had a really nice spicy flavour and it was definitely good quality - not greasy at all. You can pick and choose whatever fillings you like and the customer service my partner and I received was OUTSTANDING. They also play really cool Mexican style music which adds to the experience of eating there. We will return for sure.
Much better than the big franchise operators. Best burrito in melb.
Stopped in on a busy Friday night. Great service, fresh food and plenty to choose from. We plan to return and try the breakfast burrito (served all day!)
Burritos rock here, the meat is very tender. I prefer the chicken and pork burritos. One sauce option which is called nuclear will blow your head off, but I love it hot! There are mild options of course...the tacos are great too because they are soft shell and light
It used to be called High Tech Burrito and, although they dont have the meal deal with nachos and drink, prices are fairly reasonable. I had chicken quesadilla that comes with 3 dips (salsa, sour cream and guacamole) and 3 quesadillas with chicken and cheese. The chicken is delicious and all in all a really good portion for $15. Will go back again and would recomend it
Go here for your burrito craving. The best burrito, you won't be disappointed.
Worth a visit. My partner and I love this place, the burritos and fantastic and very filling
Best Burrito. I can only talk about the Burritos and the corn chips but both are fantastic, which is why I cant go past them and haven't tried anything else. This is the closest I have had to the Burrito's I have had in LA. I have returned many times with many friends and they have all loved the Burritos and become regulars themselves.
Love The Godzilla. This is the Burrito place. Period.
Very authentic, best Mexican in Melbourne. Have eaten Mexican in Mexico, and across the USA, and this is by far the most authentic in Melbourne. I had the beef and shrimp burrito, and it was virtually perfect. Good guacamole too. Will certainly be back.
Man I love this place. If you love your Mexican like I do and you have a very specific way that you want it, this is the place to go. They have the most insane variety of things to fill your burrito with, from Thai chicken to prawns and they will tailor the rest of it the exact way you want it. I've been to a bunch of burrito places both here and in the US and this is still my favourite hands down.
Delicious and delightful.. Before you order, don't forget to 'check-in' into your Facebook (or whatever else stupid social medias you use) as they will give you a free chocolate cookie to go with your order. Yes, it is worth it. As for the actual burrito's, they are considerably 'high-tech' in terms of the varieties and you are sure to find one that will thrill. The nacho's are also a must, with their homemade corn chips that could be eaten every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you had to.
We really enjoyed our meal here. We were pleasantly surprised as its not what we expected. We'll definitely be back; in fact we're coming again this afternoon!
Good, but exxy. Like a lot of people have mentioned, the food is good, but is pretty expensive for what it is.
Also, you have to self-serve your drinks in a cup, but there are signs all over it saying that you have to pay for refills? WTF? When I've paid $14 for a pretty basic burrito, and a couple of bucks for a cup that I have to fill myself, I don't get a refill?
It was good, but given the cost, I can't see me becoming a regular.
Quick and filling. The homemade tortilla chips are addictive! Dropped by with my partner on a hot Thursday night; he decided to tackle the Sampler set ($15.90); a grilled chicken burrito, a beef soft-shell taco and *those* chips.
He was dubious when he opened the bag (“this doesn’t look like it’s going to be enough”) but he only just ended up finishing it all. The burrito was a winner, even if he did have to add some of the salsa that came with the chips; taco meat was a tad too dry.
My cheese quesadilla with rice and pinto beans ($9.90) was also really filling, and pretty tasty (in hindsight I should’ve added jalapenos). Special mention goes to the fresh salsa and spicy guacamole.
Not authentic by a long shot and it can border on being a bit pricey if you have a bigger appetite, but it’s a solid option when Fonda is packed and Mamasita’s queue is far too long.
Had the Godzilla, taste was great and the wife could only eat 3/4 of hers. Worth the money
Really really enjoyed a quick burrito lunch fix! Great service. Generous burrito serving, and generous amounts of meat/rice/ bean combo. Will be back!
Legit Burritos. After working in San Fran and eating a burrito a week, my craving for burritos was high upon returning to Melbourne. Sadly the likes of Salsas and other "Mexican" styled restaurants did nothing for my cravings.
I can honestly say High Tech has the most legit U.S. styled burrito I've had outside of the U.S.
The chips aren't particularly great but the guacamole and salsa was tasty.
Even though the price isn't that cheap, I'll be back for my burrito hit
Delicious!. I feel like I’m just repeating other reviewers here, but this place gets a big thumbs up from me. We like our Mexican (predominantly Tex Mex) and we rate this place the best out of the others that we’ve tried in the Southern/Eastern suburbs including Nachos Cantina, Taco Bill, and Mexico City.
The home made corn chips, street tacos and burritos (I’ve only ever ordered the standard HT Burrito) are all delicious, and I’ve never been unsatisfied with my 5 or 6 visits.
Prices are slightly high for what you get, but that being said, I’ve never walked away without being quite full. Staff and manager are always quite friendly.
This place is absolutely delicious! The burritos taste really authentic and are heads above current competition e.g salsas and mad mex! Although it can be a bit pricey. Got the Godzilla burrito which was $16.50 alone! Also the tortilla chips are worth a mention! Home made and they are ever so crunchy and taste so good!
The tastiest burritos I have yet found in Melbourne. I've been here twice now and they make a damn fine burrito. I would go much more often aside from the fact that it isn't near where I live but it is still worth the journey. The best option is probably the Build-Your-Own Burrito as it is awesomely tasty and lets you build your burrito just the way you like it with options for everything from tortilla type to variety to rice to different beans to salsa and much more. To add to the awesome it is fully BYO which means you can enjoy the nice cold beer of your choosing with no extra charge for the privilege. Not sure what the technology in play is but it results in a damn fine experience so I can't complain!
Good veggie burrito options. Deeeelicious. And as a veggie, I love that I can get tofu in a burrito - and there are a few veggie options. It's also fantastic that you can 'build your own' burrito (not physically!). Staff are really friendly too. I wish I could eat one everyday...
Great Mexican food, helpful staff. This place is not big on atmosphere but it's clean, the staff are friendly and helpful, and there are chilled glasses and ice for BYO customers. The food is very fresh and well cooked, including the chips and the salsa. There is a wide variety of hot sauces -- beware the "nuclear"! -- and good range of tacos, burritos, and other Mexican comfort food.
High Taste Burrito. Being a big fan of Salsa's burritos, High Tech had high standards to meet. The burritos are quite different to the Salsa original, but are worthy in their own right. The wrapper was soft, firm and fresh; and the contents fresh and plentiful. We had the Godzilla, which is pretty much every ingredient you can imagine combined together, and surprisingly it all worked. Some occasional dollops of the various chili sauces provided in the store made it even more delicious.
The down side is the price - $16.50 for the Godzilla burrito. Yes it is certainly big, but you can get two main meals for that price is some of the nearby establishments. Thankfully we had an Entertainment book 2-for-1 voucher. The place was busy on a weekday lunchtime, so I guess the price is right for most.
Footnote: later that afternoon I learnt that you shouldn't go for a run after consuming a large quantity of Mexican beans. Even a 2.5 hour break wasn't enough.
Best burritos in Melboure, about time the city got some decent Mexican food
Good, Fast, Consistent. Eaten here a few times and it's definitely one of my favourite "fast-ish food" places.
Food is hot, tasty and fresh. Staff are friendly and the store is clean and comfortable.
Perhaps a little pricey, but I don't feel ripped off because the servings are a good size and the food is of appropriate quality.
Recommended.
Live the food here but the price has increased by 25% in the last year. I once came very frequently but will not be coming nearly as often now it comes in at nearly $15 for a burrito alone....
Fab. This place is the future of fast-food... I hope! It's tasty, it's fresh, it's fast, and it's healthy (if you choose wisely, which is easy because they show you their nutritional info' up front.)
One of very few "to go" options for a vegetarian who wants low-cal high-protein. If you're looking for "taco bill" this is not for you, if you're looking for real food fast, give them a go, it won't disappoint. :-)
This is my new favourite place to eat! The food I had was fresh and tasty, plus I liked that I could choose between a tortilla or a bowl for my burrito. I'm definitely going back soon.
I have taken on Godzilla and won. Have had the Godzilla on a couple of occasions, both times ,fresh ,tasty and satisfying. recommended.
Pretty good. The Godzilla Burrito hit the spot, tender meat and nice sauce / bean ratio, the only bothersome thing is that they didn't have shredded beef as an option but apart from that the steak meat is pretty nice. thumbs up.
Those nachos.... Like none other, and thats a good thing! A multitude of different toppings to choose and a good enough size to sneak in as a main meal, but the type of cheese ensures that its not a struggle to fit in those last few chips, which can happen with nachos! The rest of the store fits perfectly, clean, simple layout and friendly staff. Definately on my list of restaurants to become a 'regular' of.
...Oh and the rest of the menu's alright aswell!
High-tech and tasty take to traditional Mex... I originally came to this place through purchasing a Spreets.com voucher last year and have frequented it many times since. Service is bright and bubbly with chef's often taking over from floor staff to serve waiting customers and chat to them about their favourite offerings from the menu - a nice touch. Food is delicious with my favourite being the unusual thai satay burrito, a great choice for vege lovers and meat lovers alike.
A perfect summer evening. What could be better than drinking a few beers (High Tech is BYO) and being served a huge, fresh, delicious burrito. Great options for vegetarians as well as those who like it not too spicy. Could come here night after night!!
Keep going back. I love this place. you know its moderately healthy and filling! laid back. BYO also.
LOVE the california burrito. Cannot get enough of the california burrito! black beans, rice, avocado and spicy salsa for $11 - awesome. perfect after uni. love the fish taco's too. i have eaten their food many times and found it to be consistently good. highly recommended!
Simple, healthy, tasty, fast = brilliant. On nights when I can't be bothered cooking but feel too guilty for chinese or pizza, I pop into High Tech. A small, grilled chicken/tofu custom burrito w/o sauces etc does the trick. (On less guilty nights, the Surf and Turf or Curry Prawn is amazing).
If you good dirty American Mexican. Not enough meat though.
Great staff and atmosphere. Food was healthy and enjoyable. 7/10 - Something missing though, can't put a finger on it.
[Is it the 'why'? - Simon Sinek ] Could do with a coffee now : )
Great fish tacos and friendly staff. A good Cali experience.
The best burrito in Melbourne!!!. Fresh ingredients, hot and spicy (if you ask for it that way) and the best combination of flavours - High Tech Burrito have it happening. My favourite is the Cabo Supreme plus I get tacos (soft shell) and ask for it with no cheese and hot sauce on top of the Pico sauce, it's to die for. Also the pork is really good, as is the beef...the vegetarian I've never tried - I love the meet too much. gary the owner is a pretty cool fistidious (spelling) dude...he has the place humming...keep it up gazza!!
Great fast food - can be healthy if you want. I think this place has a lot going for itself.
The best part is that its fast food - with a good menu. My vegetarian friends also seem to like the veg stuff.
Absolutely Delicious.!. The food here is amazing. Had their grilled fajita Burrito with hot suce. Very good flavours and taste. The best was that they have many different levels of spicyness in Salsa and all are great.! I Highly Recommend this for a chill-out Mexican meal in melbourne !
Mexican NOT Aussie styled. Finally a place in Australia that doesn't try to pass off the super crispy Old El Paso taco shell as the real thing. Beautiful fresh salsas and meats that aren't pastes - awesome stuff. One word of warning - the parking cops are mercenary in the area. Be VERY careful where you're parking. The council must make a fortune on the good name of this restaurant.
Nom Nom Nom. I originally found out about this awesome place through a Spreet voucher and walked in to a very warm and friendly place. The staff were great and were of great assistance when I asked what an ingredient was (which was Pico De Gallo a very yummy salsa). I highly recommend the Cabo Supreme as the combination was absolutely scrumptious. My partner opted to make his own and was very pleased with his results judging by the results of it left on his shirt and face lol. Hopefully, someone will take them up on their franchise offer and open this in other suburbs.
Mmmmmmmmexican. Friendly fast service - not the 15 yr old ignorami (is that a word?) you get in most fast food places.
Lots of choice! And staff help out if you feel lost.
Great flavours (except the black bean wasn't our thing).
Fresh ingredients. Love the guacamole with big chunks of avocado.
After frequenting the ameteur operation at "mad Mex" I was worried that true happiness with a mexican meal was possible. Then I stumbled across a place, I don't know if you know it...it's called high tech burrito ( HT's by the locals)! Thank you
Best Tex-Mex in Melbourne. Kid friendly with a kids menu. Healthy and yummy burritos, well priced.
Good, Clean, Quick, and Healthy Mexican Fix. I happened upon this place by a flyer in my post box and myself being a Mexican cuisine nut (coupled w/ the fact that I moved from San Diego) I decided to give it a try. The chicken burrito was fresh and delicious, which was a welcome change from the dreck usually associated w/ Australia's interpretation of what passes for Mexican dining. The restaurant is clean and has nice decor for a quick sit down. The owner Gary is very personable and takes interest in not only the food preparation and cooking but also feedback.
Because of Gary's commendable ethos re: fresh and healthy quality there are no fried foods served and although the chips are shipped in from a separate source they are still delicious and crunchy.
The only bad experience was finding a long hair, not of my own, in a take out order of tacos, which unfortunately quickly neutralizes any appetite. I haven't been back since then BUT it has not been because of that. It's more attributed to the fact that I was after what I term as a "dirty" Mexican meal fix, something I find that hits the spot w/ Taco Bill. More on that restaurant's review later.
All-in-all I give High Tech Burrito two thumbs up and highly recommend it for good quality food.
Very surprised at the quality and freshness, both of which were excellent. Friendly staff with the kids. Recommended for a quick Mexican fix!
Wow!. 9/10
By far the best burrito I've tried in Aus, and a huge Mexican fan. Ive tried the beef and the chicken fajita burritos - excellent, particularly the rice which is paella like.
My only suggestions to the owner:
The menu is perhaps just a tad too large - can be a mindfield especially for those who don't know Mexican food.
And secondly, can you open a store in a more central area like St Kilda; then I'd be there daily!!
The Food Monster
Fiiiiiiiinally. You can get an awesome burrito in Australia!!! thank goodness they had the good sense to open in Melbourne.
So so good! Get the cabo supreme with chicken and hot salsa. I'm at Swinburne and this is my only regular food place that pleases every time
Great burritos. Cabo supreme is my fav. Keep coming back for more!
Excellent burritos, my fave is the carbo supreme.
EXCELENT!!. I must say that as a Mexican, High Tecg Burrito is the best Mexican place in Melbourne. I keep coming back always receiving the best food and the best service. The salsas are also veeeery good. I recommend this place.
Excelent food, excelent service! The burritos and the tacos are great! Once you try them, you can't stop coming back!
Service and ambience is very good. Decent variety in the menu and good collection of Mexican sauces. Food is freshly prepared and well presented. Serving sizes are huge. Felt the taste was missing the punch, the flavours I was expecting. Tried couple of wraps and a bowl.
Love coming to this spot for burritos. Also get my Cabo Supreme with great guac. The nachos were also really good. Has a good balance of flavours and ingredients that make Mexican lively and bounce.
Longing for authentic Mexican food? Visit Bay City Burrito. After leaving bay side in California, I've been missing the food. It was nostalgic to have the food I missed for long.
Caution: the Enchiladas Style burrito is humongous and you'd most likely overeat. It's delicious with all those meaty fillings and the sauce that makes it extra special.
Jalapeno poppers were spicy for me (others loved the spiciness), but the crunchy shell and the scrumptious cheesy filling were something to fight for.
Add a Jarritos drink, and you have the most satisfying meal.
Decor is lovely. Enough space for planning a small party. Service is great.
Parking is ample off street or there are parking places within 5 minutes walk.
Will visit again. Definitely!
Burritos were yummy! Loved the popcorn cauliflower and grilled corn.
I got a chicken burrito and a breakfast burrito with egg. The burrito was packed with fresh ingredients. It was a HUGE meal.
And absolutely bloody delicious!! I had some cauliflower popcorn chicken which was coated in some yummy crumbs.
I've personally found good Mexican hard to find. Well that's before I found this place.
If your looking for some good quality Mexican food, this is your place. Extra points for sustainable packaging too, no foam in sight! Yay haha.
I'm definitely going back!
Loved the ambience. The outside seating was nice too but since it was windy and chilly we opted to sit inside.
The cocktails, food was overall good. I would give 4.6 to this place. The only problem.i had was the batter was cauliflower popcorn tasted a bit raw from inside taste was good thou
The chef also made the veg quesadilla for us on our special request. Since i wanted to have one wothout chicken.
Can recommend anyone to have mexican here other than bigger chain like gyg. They serve varities that are not usual. Will definitely look forward to try more items from their menu if i get chance to visit this place again.
Fantastic, authentic Mexican food. Excellent customer service! The staff here were very helpful with helping choose something off the menu. They had great knowledge of the menu items, and didn't hesitate to ask the Chef when they were challenged on something they did not know. The location here is perfect if you are on foot in the area, or if you can find a park. The only down side is the parking, if you are trying to meet friends. Otherwise our experience here was top notch.
The staff are very friendly and excellent at they're jobs.
That was amazing. I will come back weekly to this place. The nuclear sauce is actually spicy. The pulled pork burrito is delicious. The margaritas are very flavorful. But could use a bit more volume for the pitcher. All in all I really like this place.
