Review Raju Omlet Centre - Hawthorn

1. I ordered Surti Ghotola from Raju Omelette Centre, the green coloured dish was pathetic and more than required garlic in the dish with the blend of Spinach and egg and no salt in it. I asked them about this and requested to change the order or I could pay half of the dish price, but they refused straight away. They didn’t think about the customer service or bad impression on first time customers. The lady at reception asked the person in the kitchen (acting manager) but the person in kitchen denied it. Not happy at all. At the end they behaved like they are doing a favour, said “ok we will charge half.” 2. They can’t afford to have a $2 hand wash or napkins in the toilets, a dettol bottle with a cheap quality home made pink soap in it was sitting there. At least think about the hygiene. Never ever go there and recommend

Heard a lot about the place and been wanting to visit ever since, a good wide spread of choice for everyone with a few interesting variants. Good portion sizes and reasonably priced it's a good place to check out for a feel of home maybe.

I ordered Double cheese pizza from Raju Omelette Centre, Hawthorn yesterday (17/01/2022) for take away. The pizza was totally burnt. Called them and told about this..The lady at reception asked the person in the kitchen whether the pizza was burnt ( which i heard when I was on call) but the person in kitchen seemed to deny it. So i went back 20km again to show them their burnt pizza and get the refund back. The lady simply gave my money back, no sorry , nothing. If they want to serve this burnt food to customers and provide this customer service, don’t know why they are running their restaurant. I have attached the photo of this double cheese pizza.

Ordered paneer pizza and vada pav panner pizza was not properly packed so.ended up being squished. Vada pav was not edible as the vada was burnt.I normally don't post pictures in reviews but this picture speaks thousand words.

Nice and delicious Indian street style food. Been there for the 2nd time and yet still amazed by the taste. Nice and friendly service too. Will definitely recommend.

I’ve been suuuper into Indian street/snack food recently and Raju has a great range (that’s mostly centred around eggs). The prices are reasonable and the menu is varied, featuring a selection of sandwiches and curries. I love the spicy grated egg and paneer dish so much. It was my favourite by far. The pavs also also delicious and generously portioned. I can’t wait to try more of the menu.

They used to be good but now food, service and customer experience has gone down. This maybe due to short staff or change in chef. Dabeli & Oreo shake my fav is no more good. I visited them today after 6-7 months.

Try to avoid. Went here with high hopes only to get panneer bhurji loaded with oil and literally no tomato against what is mentioned in menu. Same goes with the heavy egg something dish. Masala Papad again with no tomato. Looks like rising tomato prices has affected them. Taste was just just ok.

We had the surti ghotala, masala half fry, rice bhurji...and they were delicious!! Eggs have been the specialty at ROC....we used to frequently got to their branch in Baroda and it tastes similar!!! 10/10. The staff is very friendly and prices are reasonable too.... Good value for money! Love the place, will recommend to everyone!

Best place to eat out!!! Specialy for egg and veg lovers!!! Good and friendly staff!!! They serve the Tastiest Indian food in Melbourne !!! However the price is on a bit higher side!

Awesome food, height recommend double cheese pizza, gotalo and crust Bhurji. Try perfect Raju style orange juice.
Gaurav Bhanot
Great food options, very yummy menu and have vegetarian options as well. But something most important staff was very friendly and smiling. Definitely recommended.
Sakina Chappalwala
You must must must try the Fresh Orange Juice here if you're anywhere close to Swinburne. Even if you're not closeby, come down especially for it! So refreshing and yum! Must try!

Great tasty quick snacky food, friendly staff, budget priced.

Tonight I went to ROC in Werribee and the food quality and taste was worst. I thought it might be same as the branch in Hawthorn but nah it isn't. The one in Hawthorn is serving exceptionally well. Tonight I have to sleep hungry as I couldn't eat anything. Waste of money, waste of energy and waste of time.

Not really good no worth of spending money. expensive better to go hopper crossing desi chatka. Staff is very rude they don't have manner how to talk with customers.

As per their timing they’re supposed to be open until 12 AM but they close and open according to their convenience. We went there at 11 PM to dine in and they told us that it’s open only for take away. However, after sometime while we were still waiting for our takeaway, 5-6 people arrived and they were served food. When I inquired the rude staff told me that they were the relatives of the owner. They didn’t even record the order properly, he was disinterested. The management should mention that the place is open only to their relatives after 11PM.

Awesome food especially if you crave for spicy Indian taste. We tried crush omlet and ghotala curry. In first instance, the crush omlet was salty, but we chose to get it replaced as we have been to this place many times and this was the 1st time that something was not up to the mark. Staff immediately replaced the dish. Ghotala and roti were perfect as always. Great food place at fair price. Cheers!

Been here twice, tried veg sandwiche, cheese power omlette, adrak chai, mix parantha and masks bun.
All the dishes were very good and full of butter.
Location is easy, ample parking available nearby.

Good place to go for brunch. The taste is very similar to what we get in India.
Adrak tea was very good and refreshing.

Overall a very good place. :)

Raju omelette centre is a paradise for all the foodies craving for some delicious snacks with an Indian touch. It is located opposite Swinburne university in Hawthorn.

They have a well elaborated menu with sandwiches, pizzas, varieties of egg preparations and much more.

For sandwiches , their Ahmedabad touch sandwich was truly a delight. The cheesy spicy paneer grill could have been much better.

Also the paneer bhurji was a disappointment so much improvement required there.

Their Aloo paratha was the best of all and will give you a home away from home feeling. It is a must try.

For pizzas we ordered the spicy paneer pizza and it was a treat to the taste buds. For all the pizza lovers this is highly recommended.

I will definitely visit again to try their varieties of omelette.

Easy going and friendly service. Easy on the pocket and lovely food......mostly for people who love eggs. Bang opposite Swinburne Uni and therefore packed with the Indian student crowd. It brought back some memories of my college days in India. Lovely
Prajakta Pawar
Little place exactly in front of Swinburne uni, best place for eggitarian people. Polite and friendly staff. Food I had was tasty but little too oily for my preference. Paranthas and chef’s special egg ghotala are too good and their fig shake was the best thing I had! Pocket friendly and worth it.
Tushar Pasrija
The best place in Melbourne to have Pranthas and Egg Ghotala. Definitely my breakfast place on a chilly sunday morning. Must try place for every Prantha lover in Melbourne!!!
DT
Very unassuming place so I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. Pav bhaji is a must try - it was authentic and the quantity was perfect.

Wasn’t a fan of the pizza. It had way too much cheese so not the best here.

Had the schezwan sandwich which was not bad.

I think their Phan bhaji was the best.
Srishti.kundra8
I visit them on a regular basis. I love the prathas they make. Other than Prathas sandwiches and pizzas are worth a try. Pav bhaji is average. There is a egg dish called Ghotala which is loved by my friends. Overall food is good. The service can be better. Last time when we went there we ordered drinks and then later we asked for straws the guy serving us took so long to get them after a reminder and he threw the straws on our table. That was pretty rude of him. We ordered two times and both times he had such a bad face made up as if he is forced in doing all this. That was one really bad experience.
Cheshta Suneja
Best place to have homestyle indian parathas and chai.. This place will be my reference for future paratha and pao bhaji encounters. Raju omlet offers a variety of mouth watering egg dishes and cheesy sandwiches. The quantity is good enough. We have had egg khima, mix parathe, chai, chaas, paneer pizza, paneer sandwich, pao bhaji and have enjoyed each dish.
BB
Ordered 2 x Cheese Vegetable Grilled Sandwich, Bhurji & Power Omlette. was not up to expectations and not too great as the reviews are. Bhurji was too oily though..can visit them once every 3-4 months..due to bhurji being too oily, it can be excluded..I would advise them to use minimum oil...found it expensive considering what is given..

Amazing to see this joint taking "Egg" to a different level. Yummy varieties of egg curries (served with bun or roti) and sinful sandwishes/pizzas with loads of cheese & toppings!!

If you're a protein or egg lover, you'll love this place for various reasons - tasty food and won't make you feel too guilty!

The only let down for me is, somehow, I find the ambiance to be a bit boring and not very welcoming, however, worth a visit..

At first, the name seems to be a pretty poor choice but when i think about it, it might just be a clever play at providing a subtle hint at the type of food provided at the restaurant. In India, a lot of smaller hawkers have similar names and sell food which is rustic but has a lot of flavour. At ROC, we ordered Pav Bhaji, Adrak Chai, Elaichi Chai, Jeera Chaas, Aloo matar cheese sandwich grill, Khima and Aloo Paneer Paratha, Paneer & Cheese Paratha, Crush Bhurji wrap. I was pleasantly surprised as none of the food items were lacking in flavour. Everything had distinct flavours and it might be the reason why there were people waiting outside to get in on a rainy day. Only shortcoming is the decor and rickety old wooden furniture which is not comfortable to sit on at all. They accept card payments and parking can be hard to find depending on the time of the day. Its a great find imo.

Raju Omlet Centre...
Don’t Go By The Name...
One of the best place to have indian, if ur not in the mood to have curries.
Yes, Something Different...
Not to miss one of the best Adhrak Ki Chai (Tea), Elaichi Ki Chai (Tea) & Salted Chaach (Salted Buttermilk) I had in Australia
+ Points
Quick Service
Tasty Food
Decently Priced
Good Quality
Some items cooked in Desi Ghee
Live For Food
Most loved dish is Pau Bhaji .Parathas are just mouth watering huge quantity mouthwatering in taste very soft yet perfectly cooked.sandwiches reminds me of mumbai sandwich.Superb Indian style pizza.
For egg especially omelet of different varieties first time when I visited I found it more oily though tastes really good second and third time requested to make it less oily but unfortunately they were too oily .
Yet I definitely like majority of recipes and I will definitely routinely visit it
Pratik Jariwala
Very good spicy food, super affordable and authentic indian taste. Highly recommended for spice lovers. Staff were polite and professional. Will visit again.
SohzFoodTrail
Have been hearing this name for a while, so visited. I have a something to ask the Indian $$ eateries what with the unpleasant yellow color in the restaurant. 1st of all, it kills ones enthusiasm to eat and feel 2nd off all down the years, it makes the place look clumsy.
Situated opposite the Swinburne Uni, this place is a quick eat. The staff are friendly and the decor is unwelcoming. The door keeps banging to shake up the place everytime someone enters and leaves the restaurant.
Their menu has variety of egg stuff.the food taste close to the lips making street food back in india, though the mellowed down versions are ok to taste.we tried the cada pavi, the ghotala and cheese bheji fried rice. Very oily food and has a smell of boiled egg. Overall, the food was just ok.
Sahil Ali
Had kheema pav and Bombay omlette. Remembered college days. Kadak chai was actually kadak. Chaach was like Ghar ki chaach. Overall a great experience. Staff was very courteous. Only drawback was the ambience. Would go again.
Madhu
Tasty indian street food in and around eggs.
Must visit if you are around Melbourne city or eastern suburbs!

Winners:
Pav Bhaji, Egg lazeez, Ghotala’s(Surti and chef’s special), Aloo paratha and mix veg paratha
For sure try Masala papad to start with a elaichi chai and finish with a pista Kulfi
Neha Karanth
ROC!
Loved all the items we had. Paratha , mushroom sandwich, ahmedabad sandwich, chatpata egg gravy , Kadak chai .. all the items were good.
Will definitely visit again
Sonia
Raju OC is consistently yummy Street food specially the egg varieties. Even being Indian I only came to know about these preparations after coming here. Exactly what you're looking for on a fun evening. However sometimes I get stomach upset. I wish they change their oil and make sure everything is clean in their kitchen. Also there could be a way for making things mild medium spicy etc.
Another suggestion is that the bread in the Mumbai Cheese Toast is a strange consistency and need to try different varieties.
Vrandesh Bandikatti
Ambience : Not so great ambience, but definitely smells Indian, the moment you step in.

Authenticity : Naaa.. Not so authentic Indian Food but definitely Authentic Indian Beverages. Loved the Elaichi (Cardamom Infused Tea) at the end of my meal. Also the buttermilk decent enough for one's appetite.

Cost: Manageable to Not so expensive.

Food: Food is good. The Unlimited Veg Buffet can strike well with the Vegans and they can have as much as they want and there's no limit, until and unless you say "I'm Done". The Non Veg Buffet- eh - not so great with the traditional chicken curry and perhaps the only Non-Veg element to it. The Chapati's (Flat Bread) are soft. The best part about this place is the Beverages

S for Service : Service is good, perhaps could be better if there are more than 1 individual, perhaps a business decision considering the crowd at peak hour business.

Will I visit Back: Maybe, Yes for Paneer Pav Bhaji. Definitely a Yes for Indian Masala Chai.
Amit Jena
We had Mumbai omelette, Shruti ghotala and khima. The Mumbai omelette comes with a stuffing of multi layered spicy omelette between a large sized bun and cut into half. The khima and ghotala comes with good serving size and two pieces of bun with ample butter. The food was good. Worth a try, you will definitelike it.

A very famous & talked about Indian food place in Melbourne - rightly so 🤟🏻

Visited this place for a buffet lunch and make sure your reach before 4.30pm as the buffet thing shuts down after that! (11am to 4.30pm)
You get the regular menu after that. Not the buffet.

Now this place serves real unlimited buffet so you can eat all you want for 11 dollars (veg) & 13.5 dollars (non veg)

So you get 3 curries, rotis, rice , onion & pickle - all Unlimited!!

I got myself some paneer curry which was really good & loved it!!
There was a potato & capsicum curry which was decent & also got an egg curry which was decent as well.

Also orderd a glass of buttermilk for just 1.5 dollars.

Ambience of this place is quite interesting with interesting wall graffiti and quotes!
The service staff were polite & helpfull.
Overall, this was my best experience of Indian food in Melbourne till now.

Food - 3.5/5
Value - 4/5
Service - 4/5
Ambience - 3.5/5

Such a waste of time and money!!!! Please avoid it unless you want to get sick afterwards.
No cutlery, No customer service and food quality was absurd and unedible.

It's an amazing place for street food...the parathe is amazing.... small buzzing cafe...visited late in night but still happening....loved the food 😊
SarathTKS
Their buffet is not advisable. For the price they put - they can surely improve the quality of what they serve. The people are not receptive. If you’re looking to get some calories midday and you don’t wanna spend more- only then you’d wanna go here.
Nimalan Prakash
Craving for some Indian food on a rainy day, I went to this place. There was this rude guy at the counter asking me to keep my umbrella in a corner folded. And then he refused to even explain the menu options for buffet. The food wasn't great though except for the Potato curry. The rice was cold (most likely to be cooked 3,4 days back), roti was okay, Palak panner was not bad, the egg curry literally had no salt. NEVER GOING THIS PLACE AGAIN!

Raju Omlet Centre, Hawthorn.

Food:
- Pav bhaji felt undercooked, tasted sour, as though the tomato base had gone bad or at least not fresh. Overall the dish left me feeling uneasy.

- Aloo Mutter sandwich: tasted stale, and the stuffing inside tasted nothing like an aloo mutter sandwich.

- On an earlier occasion, I had an egg bhurji. The Pav was rendered soggy by being drenched in butter and the bhurji seemed confused with its flavours; clearly the spices were in the wrong quantities.

Ambiance: average, university area diner, somewhat similar to a bigger kebab shop. TV in the background playing Indian music channels, which can be a welcome distraction from the food. Also there are way too many items on the menu.

Service: Something major is lacking here - there is not much sense of hospitality, but this was clear at all points of the experience from ordering to paying. At points, I felt as though we were an inconvenience by virtue of being paying, dining customers. I would hope this improves in the future.

Value for money: presently, minimal, unless you have found a dish that works for you and care for not much else.

Recommend? If my two experiences are reflective of how the place is overall, then no. I really want this to be a good place as the food sounds enticing but the delivery falls way short.
Pradeep Rajkumar
I was taken as a guest and finally made to pay during closing session, the owners were in a rush to close ..Would have gone for a pizza or kebab .People who took me have no passion or food sense.I regret for paying what I had experienced.

Wasted 13 dollars for worthless masala papad and half done phav bhajji overall soaked in oil and ghee.North western Indian Food snack not authentic at all in this 3rd rated diner..

NORTH INDIAN MUMBAI slum ambience.

Very bad service in communication and horrible ambiance
Hawthorn has no good diners including hotels there.
Expensive for worthless hospitality and cuisines.

Highly not recommended..
Radi
The most famous adda for university students. The lunch buffet is quite popular with unlimited curries, breads and rice for just $10. Apart from this , the Paranthas are also really good. They have good menu and normally have everything listed in it.
Good jobs guys..you are really a blessing for uni people.
Foodie
This place was on my "places to visit list" and it was worth a shot.
Great food and concept . It's not all about eggs , there are a lot of vege options too.

I tried Mumbai masala, gotala and rice boiled tikka and everything was yummy.

Would highly recommend this place as it good food , pocket friendly and to top it all up best ADRAK KI CHAI in Melbourne.
Vij.kanu
Yummy is the only word ... different types of eggs ...omletes ... Gatola the favourite the variety is wide and we love to come on weekends ... the best thing about this place is that its open till midnight ... finding place in Melbourne to eat in night
Pulkit
Doused in butter/ghee, salt and cheese; every time I come here I'm bitterly disappointed no matter what I order.

Today was the last time, I don't generally leave reviews but thought it's worth a public service announcement; this place servers heart attack in a plate with, no flavours!
Jeeth John
We were a group of four and all of us ordered different dishes. Some of the dishes had almost the same basic taste while others were either way too spiced up or bland. But love the concept of egg based recipes (just need some tinkering with the recipes I guess)
Nean
I really wanted to like this place. I love the concept of everything being egg based. But unfortunately I can't say it's worth your time. Everything is heavily spiced - which you would think is a good thing. But the overriding spice was cinnamon. It ruined all of our dishes. I couldn't decifer any other flavours. And the omelette sandwich didn't contain an "omlette", just formed scrambled eggs mixed with so many things it didn't form together properly. And the bun containing the "omlette" was soaking in oil/ghee. All in all, this was a woeful night.
Food Expert Puru
Raju Omlette a increasingly famous name for casual dining has a decent outlet in the University precinct of Hawthorn. Open spacious it offers a cafe look at affordable prices.

We tried a few things paratha, cheese pizza, pav bhaji, gotala, cheese paneer grill, grilled sanwiches, kheema.

Special mention to gotala as I had never tried something like that before. Distinct green colour but not so much chilli to burn your tongue. Gravy makes it easy to have with roti or pav.

Revist: Yes
Akash SHAH
Good price and quality food.
Excellent testy food. Great service.
Indian with a twist. Great prices, interesting menu, delicious dishes. Recommend for spicy food lovers.

DT
Very average food .
I don't like spending $11 for spicy scrambled eggs ( Bhurji) which is an effortless cooking . I need more than just a normal bhurji cooked at home.
I did take away for rice bhurji and veg pulao - quantities very disappointing! I have eaten better rice dishes ( Indian or otherwise ) which I call real value for money .
Having said that - none of the food tasted bad . Service was ok too.
If they are serving some 'farm fresh' eggs I need to know where they are coming from.
Ambience was ok and has a casual feel to it .- good for uni students types.
Will I go there again ? NOPE , there are better options out there - food and money wise .
Maneesha Manglick
Authentic Indian street food. Love it. I would highly recommend the aloo paratha, chai and mango kulfi. Can't wait to go back and try some more dishes.
Skanda Eshwar Chandra
Positives:
- Open late (12am)
- Affordable
- Good serving size
- Taste is consistent and is worth the money

Negatives:
- They don't deliver
- Could offer more variety (more street food options)
- Their stuffed paratha range isn't too good
Rutul Shah
Good Indian food provided by R0C. Specially good quality of pizza and sandwiches. Well maintain restaurant and good staff. Try different as spicy & tasty food once go there.
Dattha Moudgalya
Update: Considering my recent visits to this restaurant, I'm increasing the rating. Lot's of improvements been done. Food quality is better compared to my previous visits. But if there could be more egg-less options, that would be great.

Old review: It feels bad for me to give less rating to a restaurant, but also enables me to point out improvements to an outlet. First things first, good parking around and it is right opposite to Swinburne University, so approach and accessibility are checked out.

They have attractive buffet lunch only on weekdays, if they extend the same for a limited time on weekends and advertise the same that will help everyone. Portions of food is good, but, quality of food should be extremely improved. Not just once, but thrice we had stomach bloating after having here. Not just me alone but also my colleagues and my partner. Let customers know the contents of food before taking order, it will help mutually.

Items are appropriately priced and serving time is awesome. Ambience has to be slightly improved. Placing television which is convenient to only owners is a strict NO NO, that too with a loud irritating movie. Need to improve a lot guys.
Dhiral Merchant
This place is everything an Indian foodie would love...taste is exactly same as what you get on the Indian street joints...friendly staff...have been there 3-4 times now and sure will continue to go there many more times
