Excellent service and dishes! I loved the Pad Thai and Pad See Ewe, the flavours are strong and portion sizes are generous, especially so for the prices. The decor is modern and it's conveniently located next to Lido Cinemas so parking is aplenty. Will come again!
Glad to find a good Thai restaurant near the station. Small and cozy place. We ordered curry duck and 1 roti. It is NOT enough. I would like extra 3,4 5 roti. The curry is just so good. My boyfriend likes the pad thai noodle. Good to try. Will come back for more.
AmaIng Thai food heaps of GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS The customer service is fantastic with so many options of food!!! This is my new favourite place and I highly recommend
Food is delicious at a great price. Service is lovely. A great low key dining spot!! Highly recommended. Great for dinner before the movies or at any time!!
Formerly Siam Lemongrass, this small but bustling Thai restaurant always delivers great, authentic food at good prices.
We particularly enjoy the pork belly stir fry and Thai coconut mousse.
This place is a hidden gem serving up tasty lunchtime thai dishes that are cheap compared to the other Thai places in the area.
It can get a bit busy on some days that they are short staffed, and the place has a limited capacity, but otherwise this place is well recommended.
I have had a lot of Thai food in my time from many different restaurants but go here regularly for reliable, tasty and good value Thai with pleasant and quick service. My favourites are the pad kee mao, pad sweet chilli jam and green or red curry.
Our go-to Thai restaurant to order from. The food is always delicious and full of flavour. Especially love the pad see ewe, chilli jam chicken and the Penang curry. But everything we have tried we enjoy. Will continue to be a regular customer
Every time I've ordered here, always good food and friendly customer service! :)
Been coming here for a few months now, and I called up and placed my usual order: Beef Massaman curry, veggie pad satay and two large coconut rice. Tried a few other things, but these are our faves! The person taking the order on the phone said it would be 20 minutes, it was Easter weekend as well. I went in after 20 minutes, and had to wait another 20 minutes in store for my order.
It was a bit annoying that when I placed the phone order, I said two large coconut rice, and when I got there, only one was on my order docket. I said I asked for two, and paid for two. When it came to giving me the order, the cook in the back only gave me one container of coconut rice. The front staff had to tell them that it was two and they walked off to take an order.
When they were packing the rice, I noticed it was a small container, so I said large as I didn't want to waste anymore time for myself or them. The back staff went to look at my docket and it said one, but they went to find the front staff to confirm that it was a large coconut rice, which they did. So another five minutes was wasted in getting my rice after already waiting 20 minutes for my order in store.
Other than that tiny little problem, the food was good.
Top notch food, and great service. Very flexible about providing vegetarian meals too. Highly recommend this place... try the red curry on rice.
Siam Lemongrass is a popular student eatery in Hawthorn near Swinburne uni. Here they have all day lunch which is under $10. They had an award for the Age Cheap eats in 2012 and they are still going strong. They share the bathrooms with Lido which is upstairs. Here the bathrooms are cool and spacious and they have a really cool bar upstairs. Here I had a no frills Thai egg omelette and rice. I had been needing all the carbs and proteins possible for running and the new Lord of the Fries in the city was waaay too overcrowded with people getting free chips.
Good serving size and tasty food. The to yum soup was tasty. They also have good Uber eats service and when I asked for crackers they didn't even charge and sent a huge bag on the house!
I usually go for lunch, most items on the menu are pretty good, what I like most is how fresh the ingredients taste. Staff are very friendly, must have been to this place at least a dozen of times and the food is consistently good.
I'm a fussy eater but even I could not find fault with this little unassuming Thai restaurant tucked away in an arcade next to the Lido Cinema.
4 adults and 2 children had dinner. We ordered a variety of dishes to share.
For entree:
Chicken rice paper rolls
Spicy calamari
Prawn crackers
And for mains:
Chicken lemongrass stir fry with coconut rice
Crispy pork pad Thai
Salmon laba
Saffron rice
By the time we got through all this food (the servings are generous!) we were all stuffed and very satisfied. All the dishes were prepared to order and the ingredients were fresh.
My favourite dish (although I loved everything), and the one I would recommend is the salmon laba. Don't miss out!
Nothing more than a small shop conversion in a covered walkway from Glenferrie Road to the car park, Siam Lemongrass is hardly a 'destination' cafe/restaurant. But sited next to the entrance to the Lido Cinema, it's a perfect spot to grab a quick lunch before a screening.
Specials on the lunch menu are around the $10 mark - and good value. Pad med chicken on rice - $9.90 - was excellent. Generous portion, clean, fresh taste with the chicken perfectly cooked - the grain of the meat was still well-defined, indicating cooked-to-order.
Certainly has a lunch time attraction - not so sure of the attraction for evening meal though.
UPDATE: DECEMBER 2019.
Still somewhat soulless - atmosphere is made by people! Food excellent - lunches are now $13-16 (seafood the higher bracket) - and beautifully presented. Served until 3pm. Choice of around 8 dishes - staple of massaman, penang , green, red curries etc and a few others: you choose the meat to accompany.
It's popular these days - but as I went at 2pm, no problem getting a table.
Good Food, Good Mood
+4.5
Edit: ordered direct via their website and delivery was quick and efficient. It’s free delivery if you’re delivering within Hawthorn! The green beef curry with coconut rice was a winner for me!
I'm not down in the Hawthorn area often, but having the chance to order from Siam Lemongrass through UberEATS has been a fantastic experience. I'd recommend the duck salad with lychee, prawn spring rolls, pad thai (with chicken and extra chill flakes of course). Consistent flavours and the delivery was really quick!
This little eatery is a great find. Tucked away next to the Lido cinema in Hawthorn. Lunch specials are great value and always tasty. Dinner won't cost an arm and a leg either and portions adequate so you won't leave hungry!
"...Truly Delicious ~ Quality Ingredients ~ Cheap ~ A Fab Find..."
Tonight, feeling lazy - had a really late night / early morning day before...
Wanted something nice to eat, but didn't feel.like getting dressed, and going out.
As usual, looked up local restaurants online.
Not very keen on those big food delivery mobs, but well.. just want to eat.. taking the risk..
Saw an ad for Menulog - got the app - then searched for restaurants nearby..
Found SIAM LEMONGRASS, Hawthorn - decent reviews - my fave dishes - great prices - bonus 20% off first order - gonna give them a go..
Placed and paid for order online - so easy to do - the app gave me a time - he was here 15 mins early..
Ordered:
1 x Chicken Pad Thai - almost perfect - it was just so well balanced - the lime, the palm sugar, the fish sauce, the tamarind all there - the flavours so good on the palate - and lots of crushed toasted peanuts..
1 x Beef Pad Se Ew - beautiful big fat translucent noodles, tender beef, lots of cabbage, lots of deep orange carrot, the dark soy just right..
1 x Green Chicken Curry - lots of good tasting chicken - very generous with the crisp snow peas - good heat in the creamy coconut sauce - lots of peppery tasting basil - gorgeous..
1 x Panang Beef Curry - again, lovely tender beef strips - good sauce - good spice - loved the crisp young micro beans..
2 x large Thai Jasmine Rice - nice and dry..
We loved the lot... Not a complaint or criticusm.. We've had a lot of Thai food - this, tonight, was some of the best take-away ever...
And so impressed with their packaging - they'd wrapped the containers of curry in cling wrap so no leaks - a testament to their professionalism..
Next time wanna try their entrees as well, esp their Roti with Peanut Sauce $4..
Cost: Just under $51 delivered - heaps for 4 of us, and we can eat..!!
Extraordinarily good value and it's truly top notch authentic tasting Thai...
Wed 10 Feb 2016 ordered take-away delivery for dinner.
Best Thai food I've ever had so far. Been coming here and getting take away for a year now. The head waitress (and owner I presume) is very nice and helpful.
One of the best Pad Thai in Melbourne, Curries needs some work
Unpretentious place .... We've been here twice now ...
I've tried many Pad Thai and this got to be one of the best, not too dry and not too wet.
Nicely portioned, crushed peanuts and dry chilies.
On the other hand, we've tried their curries, Green Curry Chicken and Panang Curry Beef, the Green Curry was bland and too watery/coconut the first time we were there, second time their Panang Curry was heaps better, balanced sweetness, although Beef was a bit tough.
Perfect place before a movie at Lido Cinema, will try more ...
Best Thai food I've had in ages, the ingredients are super fresh and it's really affordable too. Definitely can't go past this place it beats most restaurants on Glenferrie Road!
Tried this new place. Good food, reasonable price but staff at counter was very helpful and gave good recommendation and suggested I alter my order. Turned out she was right :-)
Delicious!. I ordered Siam Lemongrass for delivery and it was mighty delicious. I had the Crispy Pork PadSeeEw and the roti with satay dipping sauce. Delivery took abit longer the expected so when the food arrived the crispy pork was no longer crispy but the flavours were surely there. I must say it is one of the better tasting pad see ew i've had as i am usually not a big fan of it and would opt for pad thai. As for the entree (roti with dipping sauce) it was below average. The satay dipping sauce was way to sweet and didnt have any flavour - If this were an indication of what the other satay dishes taste like i would stay away!
I am definitely going to check this place our in the future and eat in!
Delicious and cheap!. Love the food here! Yummy curries and salads .. The different spice levels help as the food gets made acc to your taste buds! highly recommended
My favourite. Delicious, fresh food with fantastic flavours. The peanut satay sauce is incredible! The staff are so friendly and remember me because I come in so often. Prices are great as well- a large plate of stir fry is around $9. I've taken my friends here and they love it too!
2 words: cheap and delicious!!! Will def be back!!
Well Priced Authentic Thai. Picked for proximity.
Will return for flavours, service & value for money.
Nothing fancy, it's a café, but they care about their food and produce some of the most authentic thai food I've had outside of Thailand.
Consistantly amazing food! Service is fantastic and it's definitely worth the little venture down the arcade. Love it!
Fresh and delicious. Ordered takeaway from here tonight, we lost track of time and got there after close to pick it up and they had the food in a heat retaining bag and actually waited outside with the exact change we needed-smart and considerate. On to the actual food, I ordered seafood with green curry and my boyfriend ordered special fried rice, with a side of coconut rice. The curry had actual pieces of crab claw in it and the fish chunks were copious and very fresh tasting. The special fried rice was served with chicken wings which were delicious and the rice was good, the coconut rice was exactly how it should be, aromatic and fluffy. The price came to $30 which is insanely cheap especially in this area for good quality Thai. Definitely replaced our old takeaway joint, highly recommended!
It's such a lovely food and service. I'm really enjoy it. So friendly...like eat at home...:-)
Definitely a good place to dine, althought not a favourable location but the food and staff were just great. :)
Great lunch spot. The crispy pork pad Thai here is my favourite.... Always the same, always delicious. Service is also friendly and efficient.
Amazing quality. Have been here half a dozen times and the food is the same every time, this level of consistency is very hard to find I have found in recent years. Price is fantastic for the quality you get. Recommend to anyone looking for great Thai.
It's a winner!. Highly recommended option for casual eat-in or takeaway. Fresh ingredients, with a wide range of dishes made to order. Favourite dishes: Pad See Ew Pak, Pad Grapow Pak, and of course, Coconut Icecream!
Friendly staff and attention to little details like bringing water to your table, flowers on the table, and newspapers and magazines for solo lunchers make it a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Tucked away in the Troubadour Arcade (runs between Glenferrie Road - entrance opposite McDonalds - and the 'Coles' carpark / Hawthorn Pool), it's worth seeking out!
Fantastic. Great food and service. I try and visit this place at least once a week. Do try their pork and basil; thai fishcakes; prawn springrolls. They even have a frequent meal card where you can get freebies after 4-5 meals.
PAD thai and spicy gra paow chocken!
Hidden Treassure in Hawthorn. How have I lived here for so long and never known that this existed? My friend recently told me about this thai take away hidden down the laneway of Troubadour Arcade. This is pretty much as good as Thai food gets around here , the shop is modern , menu design and layout is very creative. The display in the front window is worth a walk by to have a look. The menu variety is good , gluten free options which is a help then my girlfriend has an intolerance. I would recommend the crispy pork and vegetables , taste is exeptional and better yet very reasonable price. Nothing more to say , the staff were bright and cheerful and spoke good english which always makes it easier , the service was great and the food was the fantastic. Highly reccomend thai time anytime ~!!!
