Review Momoco Sushi - Hawthorn

Delicious Japanese food buffet. The sashimi is very fresh and taste great. The eel taste much better than the one I got from Asian supermarket. Definite will come again

We went for an appointment in Hawthorn and came across this restaurant on Google for Japanese restaurant near me. Food, I wasn't impressed because it didn't give Japanese authentic taste to me. Bento portion was good but the rice isn't Japanese rice. It felt like a jasmine rice to me. The chef did swap salmon and sushi in our bento sets but it's ok. We just swaped it back ourselves as the waiter informed us when he already served them at the table. Okonomiyaki was ok but it's a bit thick so it was a little soggy. Service was ok, nothing special. Probably not coming back as we're not in the area and it's not worth traveling for food here. Restaurant, nice decoration and clean.

Yes we know it is cold and wet in winter. โ˜”๏ธ What better way to warm your bellies than an ๐‘ด๐’๐’Ž๐’๐’„๐’ ๐‘บ๐’–๐’”๐’‰๐’Š @momocosushi is a new restaurant in Hawthorn and it is starting to make waves. Just make sure you come with an empty belly and some friends! ๐Ÿฑ ๐Ÿฃ Where do you start? I love Japanese food and when you are craving for some seafood, how about sashimi? So many delicious types of fish (salmon, tuna etc). Ridiculously fresh and dip into some wasabi soy for a wonderland of flavours. We also couldn't resist the mouthwatering beef & chicken skewers. The beef was my favourite as the meat was so tender. Another fav is the takoyaki - crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside. ๐Ÿคค๐Ÿคค๐Ÿคค ๐Ÿฃ Oh and we just loved the beef tataki - fresh, zingy and so easy to eat! ๐Ÿคค๐Ÿคค ๐Ÿฃ All the other staples such as gyozas, seaweed salad and sushi rolls were really good. So glad this was a AYCE as we just wanted to try everything! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™Œ ๐Ÿฑ Needless to say we were so full and satisfied.

Last Friday we had a great time visiting Momoco Sushi in Hawthorn for dinner. They have a Japanese all-you-can-eat with unlimited orders available only at dinner time from Monday to Sunday ๐Ÿ˜‹ We tried a bit of everything on their menu: entrรฉes, main dishes, nigiri/aburi sushi, sashimi, salad, maki, temaki, soup, tempura, grilled skewers, rice, noodles and dessert ๐Ÿ˜ฑ We also ordered a bottle of sake to share and it went really well with all their delicious dishes ๐Ÿ˜ Definitely recommend this restaurant for when you are craving some traditional Japanese food ๐Ÿฅฐ Featuring: ๐Ÿค Japanese all-you-can-eat $49.90 ๐Ÿถ Ippin Junmai Sake 300ml $22

Ok, looks the part but nothing that invokes imagination. I ordered the sushi don and there was more rice for my liking and a bit light on the sashimi as the photo shows. Presentation was lacking. My colleagues had the bento box and they did look a little better value for money.

Nice local option in Hawthorn. Great priced and tasty sushi options. Dine in options are great too - the Bento boxes are a delight. The pork katsu curry is slightly on the heavy side... But hey, what else should you expect with a katsu curry ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ will be back!

Very good food
Momoco Sushi, Hawthorn continues to be a busy and popular place even on a weekday at lunch time. Which was when I visited for a quick bite.

The restaurant was very spacious and welcoming. The tempura udon was delicious. The udon was cooked well with some springiness. The soup was tasty and umami-licious. The sashimi salad was fresh and went well with the vegetables. Prices were pretty reasonable. I would not hesitate to return.

Very average, not fresh at all and over priced. Ordered edamame which was very old and tasted off, sushi with salmon which was not fresh, dumplings which were thrown in the bin and gyu don which had two slices of meat in it. Go to samurai for much cheaper and better Japanese.
PW Lou
Not the easiest to get into the restaurant as the door was stuck. Service was a bit slow. The food was not very tasty and took a while to be served.
The place looks a bit messy.

Unlikely to try it out again.
The vegetarian pancake is huge! The bento boxes are great too. Slightly on the pricier side but still good value. A lot of food!

The interior is not the most welcoming. I donโ€™t recall there being any music and the lighting was a bit bright.

Been here previously for dinner and found out they had all you can eat buffet so I took my friends there for a birthday. Food was good and mostly fresh. Fried oysters, takoyaki balls and grilled tuna belly was good. We were stuffed at the end of it!

Service was really really poor, hence why Iโ€™m not giving it a 5-star rating. They were condescending and honestly a little rude when explaining how to order. The way you order made no sense whatsoever! They said youโ€™ll get 2 sashimi per order. We wrote 1 and got 3 slices. Then we ordered again and wrote 3 but got 3 slices??? How do you justify that?? ๐Ÿค”

Next, we ordered a bunch of sushi and hot food but not everything came and we had to order again and again, every time somethingโ€™s missing. I reckon itโ€™s a tactic they use to trick customers by delaying the food (cause itโ€™s a 2 hour sitting). Donโ€™t think Iโ€™ll ever go back to such unethical business.

The Bento box A at Momoco is A+. Perfect amount of everything (teriyaki chicken, rice, dumplings, sushi, salad and miso) and is also great when hung over

A few years ago we had buffet here and really enjoyed it. We came here after a while and found the quality of sashimi not as good as before. The time limit is 2 hours, but they held the order sheet until they finished serving all the food on 1 order sheet and we ended up waiting for 35 minutes for our first order (which was mainly sashimi and salad which doesn't need much cooking time and there were only a few customers). Also we found we only got half of the sashimi we ordered. We ordered 50 serves of 2 pieces per serve, but we were served only 57 pieces after waiting for quite a while. Overall food quality is average

One of the best Japanese restaurants in Melbourne I think! Very vibrant and inviting vibe to the restaurant. Came here with a couple of friends and really enjoyed our experience here. We came for the all you can eat Japanese food - we pretty much ordered everything off the menu! We loved the eggplant dish the best (see photos). Will definitely be back soon.

I've been to this all-you-can-eat sushi place continuously for over 3 years and it is one of the best I've had. It's not full of gimmick trimmings and sauces and the food is always fresh. The prices are worth it and they sometimes have a cash promotion as well. We ordered a few rounds from hot foods to cold to sushi dishes. The cuts of fish are generous and well portioned. Salmon was so fresh and soft to bite into. Spicy tuna roll was just chilli flakes so it was a little average (only one place so far i've been to uses an actual sauce), their takoyaki is yum, ox tongue was delicious even though the pieces were tiny and a bit oily, beef tataki had comparable flavours to other places and thank god for the yolk because that is my favourite combo. The peking duck and mango combination roll was interesting (mango really came through) but duck was hard to taste.ย
We always call to book a little beforehand and to let them know we'll be ordering the all-you-can-eat menu.
AaronN
The service here was really friendly, however apart from the okonomayaki the rest of the food (being gyoza, curry katsu, and bento box) was very average. Not sure weโ€™ll be back
Rubyanaisscerri
had a very poor experience with the sushi/sashimi bento box and for $25 you expect quality and quality was not what i received. the sashimi was slimey and had a soapy taste to it. after expressing this to a waitress another waitress came over and proceeded to tell me that i donโ€™t know what good sashimi taste like and effectively told me i was wrong and that there food was good. what happened to the customer is always right?? never coming back...

I have been to 4 Japanese all you can eat restaurants in Melbourne and this one was by far the best! We visited for dinner on a Sunday night. It wasn't too busy which was good because that meant we got our food fairly quickly and was able to grab the attention of staff easily.

For $41.80 per person we were given a vast selection of dishes to pick from. There was so much I wanted to order but we didn't get around to sampling it all because the serving sizes were pretty big. Highlights would be the tempura dishes (so crunchy!) and the fried oyster (so heavenly). Their salads, sushi and sashimi were pretty good too.

Highlights:
- Vast selection of dishes
- No order limit or time limit
- Pretty big serving sizes (check out my pictures)
- no dying of thirst afterwards is always a plus (no msg)

Instagram @Flabnbone_Food

Areas to improve on:
- The goyoza and Japanese pancake were burnt
- Didn't really like the dishes with crab meat in it as it tasted rubbery and bland.

Had all you can eat, food was great. However was told we cannot use entertainment book voucher.
Even though it's not written anywhere.......
Momoco Sushi serves quality Japanese dishes with friendly staff. The restaurant was quite packed on a Saturday night at 7pm so making reservations are recommended. They have an all-you-can-eat offer for $41 but my family and I had a la carte meals instead.

Mimoco Sushi has an extensive range of Japanese dishes to choose from. I ordered the Bento Box A (chicken teriyaki), which was delicious. The sides (gyoza, sashimi sushi, vegetable tempura, spring rolls) that came with the bento box were just as good as the main dish. Teriyaki chicken was cooked to perfection and the sauce was addictive. I also got to try the meiji roll (roasted duck and mango rolled in egg), which was yum as too. An added bonus was that we had the entertainment voucher so we got 25% off our total bill.
Leigh
Not bad. However very attentive service. We had a few tapas. Sushi rolls are just too different from every end (where I cone from lol). It's worth to give a try at some point.

Best sushi in town! We are there sometimes even once a week for a sashimi treat or a bento box. Can highly recommend bento C. Staff are friendly. Very reasonably priced!

Decent price for an all you can eat sushi place at $42 pp. Nothing to spectacular about the food. Customer service was meh although they keep convincing us to order less food. Take note, food that is unfinished will be surcharged.
Quetzalcoatlus
This place is perfect! The prices are splendid, and all the food is so delicious! I would recommend you go here for breakfast, lunch and dinner (And any time in between). The drinks are so cheap and I love how they play music. There is a whole assortment of exotic, scrumptious food that is just simply mouthwatering. I would really recommend it!
Mathew Hnoudis
Delicious food but the service was inattentive. Meals came out at different times and you would die of thirst trying to get service to get a drink. Serving sizes for lunch are quite large.

I have been buying sashimi takeaway on a regular basis, and noticed that whilst I was always greeted with a smile, the food quality was slipping.
On the last visit, and it will be, when I got home and opened the package several portions of the fish were no bigger than my thumb nail.
Maybe it's just their takeaway customers they treat with such disdain??
Margaret
Authentic suishi buffet, raw dishes are good, however cooked dishes you wouldnt be impressed, some dishes can be improved, grilled eggplant was great, with 41 dollars person which consider as not cheap. Suggesting to go for other japanese restaurant if you are not a big eatter.
Nick X Thomson
Food was good, but nothing special. Prices were okay, but a tad on the high side when considering the vibe of the place. Service was acceptable, but could be polished, but most noticeably; the dining experience is detracted from by the general shabbiness of the place. It feels cheap, and the furniture is not comfortable or welcoming. The venue feels like a school cafeteria.

A good local Japanese restaurant on Power Street. 3 of my team members went there for buffet the other week and they enjoyed it. My turn now is to try the lunch menu. I would describe my dining experience like this. The food is decent and quite value for the money. Service on my visit is not bad but not as attentive as those establishments on Glenferrie Rd. Would we come back? Yes . Would we recommend? Of course. However, I personally prefer the old Japanese institution on Glenferrie Rd. but that is just my preference. (Like I've have always said that I love 'good service'). If you live nearby, let's go check them out though.

Average food, bento box was ok, meat, rice and accompaniments were alittle boring, under seasoned and lacked love and flavour. Tofu was strange and unappetising

come with friends here because of buffet, but be told something unavailable tonight. there is a large understatement than we expected. if i have choices๏ผŒi won't try it here again.

Terrible service. Have been going here weekly for over a year but recent change of management has been horrible ! Ordered food to be delivered and were told it would be 45mins to 1 hr. 2hrs later it arrives! I have never had to wait 2hrs anywhere at any restaurant. They forgot a dish and didn't label pancakes meaning a vegetarian got a chicken pancake he couldn't eat. They gave us 10% off but little apology and they just laughed. After spending a lot of money here overtime we will never be coming back! A place that once delivered great food in 30 mins has now become a place that delivers average food in upwards of an hour.
Laura_lemmo
This place USED to be amazing. We have been going for about 2 1/5 years but unfortunately won't be back. They have removed lots of the most amazing stuff off the buffet menu (including mango ducks roll). We got about 2/3's of what we ordered, and the staff kept waiting a really long time between servings and asking us if we were ready for desert/bill. Was quite disappointing- as this used to be a favourite restaurant of ours. Wouldn't recommend.

Been here twice two years ago, it was good two years ago, now I Dont think so. I am eating in the restaurant while writing this review, I had never done that in my life but the food I'm having now force me to express my anger. The services is great, but food is not.
When talking about food, every one might have a different standards and opinions. But I'm comparing those standards with similar type of restaurants and with similar budget.
The sashimi in here is alright, not too bad. But the Sushi is definitely not great, the rice is bad. Nigiri is not hold probably. California roll, too much rice, not shape probably. Beef tataki is a disaster, the beef is not fresh enough, more importantly the beef tataki sauce taste like nothing. It supposed to be vibrant and exciting, but the one I had is boring and taste like I'm eating pure raw beef. The Gyoza we had is pretty bad too, they are soft and disgusting. Usually the pan fryed Gyoza should be juicy not soft but crispy. But the one we had are soft, soaked and not crispy. The edamame we had are overcooked, those beans turned too soft and soaked. Okonomiyaki looked nice but again they are soaked too, but since I had minimum experience with okonomiyaki, I really can't tell if they should be like that or not. In hot food, especially tempura, the breading is too much, is thick, tough and they are definitely not using the professional type for of tempura batter. Ice cream is good, we liked that.
In conclusion, the presentation of the food looks good, customer service is great. However the quality of food, the taste of food, the sauce...breading...cooking grades...they are all below our standards.
We, me and my girlfriend compare those results with OKami Caulfield, Okami Hampton, Conder Dockland, Isshin Forest hill, china bar signature city(permanently closed), Epping china bar signature.
I will never come here again, I will whether stick with those restaurant above than going to Momoco.

Best tofu I've ever had! Loads of vegetarian options, friendly staff, and cheap too! For anyone looking for a good meal, without breaking the bank, I recommend it greatly.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Seriously this place feeds me when I am sick or in health!! The hot food from the wok is AMAZING, you can taste the smoke of the wok in the food and its not that unclean taste but the taste of YUM!! The Sushi is on point and the price of this place is so good. Thank you MOMOCO you are awesome.

Great service, always make my sushi for me fresh on the spot (a lot of places won't do this) the staff are so sweet and they even open the door for you when you leave! Highly recommended

Went to to the one in Hawthorn, All you can eat requires minimum of eight people so I am told up on arrival, which is not written anywhere on its main website. I've eaten so many all you can eat restaurant this is the first time I've seen place that reject customer, and the place was a ghost town on a busy Thursday night. Not sure whats making the place empty, could it be that you need 8 people to start eating? Cant be bothered to walk out like an idiot after getting lectured about its mysterious hidden rules, I ordered a bento, tasted average, chicken had too much salt, drink over priced. btw the Waiter was staring at me all the time, so weird, and chiefs were chit chatting very loud I could hear them laugh, place was empty they had nothing to do I suppose.

Don't waste you time or money here. Came here with 7 friends for the $40each all you can eat sushi menu. Firstly it took them half an hour to serve half the table with water and 2 cans of Diet Coke. I'm sorry could you not open the fridge that I was sitting right across from trying not to go and grab one myself? Secondly, considering it was an all you can eat dinner - we would have a lot of dishes on the table throughout the duration of our dinner 'experience' - which they didn't seem to clear away and made for bringing out new dishes to the table a squishy and awkward situation. Thirdly, and finally - they stuffed up our damn order. For those who haven't been there you pick your food via a piece of paper with the food options and you scribble down the serving of what you want. The first round - half of what we ordered never came out. So we decided to order again. The second round, shit we didn't even order came out. I don't understand how hard it is when you have an A3 sized paper with quantities of what we want written right next to the food we would like served. It was all honestly bullshit and I will never, ever, be returning again.

Absolutely delicious Japanese buffet! Food was made to order, ranging from fresh sashimi to cooked teriyaki meats to authentic japanese dishes such as katsu dons. Every single staff member was soo lovely and attentive. Highly reccommend! ๐Ÿ‘

Went here one night with my boyfriend hoping to have some delicate and fresh Japanese food, but we were left severely disappointed.
The staff were quite friendly and attentive, possibly a little too attentive, as they were constantly hovering around us and watching us as we ate. We ordered the Chicken Gyoza which was quite flavoursome, although slightly oily. Then we had the Agedashi Tofu. I have been on the hunt for quite some time for a really good agedashi tofu and sadly, this wasn't it. The tofu was quite bland and the broth traditionally served with it (tentsuyu) was instead a little saucer of some other cold dipping sauce, which was very odd.
We had the Meiji Roll (roast duck and mango wrapped in egg) and the Futomaki (Japanese pickle and egg wrapped in nori), which were both huge in size, not delicate at all. This could have been a bonus for us if they actually tasted good. They were average at best.
Lastly, we had the Sukiyaki Udon Noodle Soup which we had to wait for awhile after our sushi dishes. When we finally got it, it was extremely disappointing and not worth the wait at all. The sliced beef was so incredibly chewy, the huge chunks of vegetables were just cooked, and the broth was sickly sweet as if the chef chucked a handful of sugar into it without tasting it. It left a bad taste in our mouths afterwards.ย All up, the bill came to $46, which was pretty cheap considering how much we ordered, but the quality was just not up to scratch. I would rather pay a bit extra for better quality food.ย

Disappointed and not worth it.

Chinese sushi shop. Dumplings were off. Too much sauce on pancake. customer service was poor. Rather pay more for real Japanese food. will not be back!

Ok. i didn't have the food in Momoco sushi but i had a trail few weeks ago and i knew that i won't have the job cause that was my fist job as a waitress. i had 2 hr trail and hour fifty mins work extra. i went to the restaurant to get my pay and the manager kept say i only worked for an hour and half. i was so disappointed that he had no will to believe me and how he talked to me. he literally said ' i don't like the way you talk that's why i didn't hire you'. all i said was i worked for and hour and fifty mins. i didn't want to spend my time on this so i decided to get 1.5 hr shift and he asked me to sign a contract that says i worked for 1.5 hr
seriously?????

I went to Momoco Sushi with the family today for their โ€˜all you can eat โ€˜ option. Each person gets to choose ONE small hot dish, ONE serving of dessert (icecream) and all you can eat sushi nori/salads which is pretty good if you like sashimi! Iโ€™ve looked at the Momoco prices for their regular meals and itโ€™s not that cheap so I believe you can easily eat your moneys worth. It wonโ€™t be worth it if youโ€™re not a big eater though/you donโ€™t like raw fish! Better off ordering one of their mains :)ย With the โ€˜ all you can eat โ€˜ option youโ€™re given a form to fill out with all the sushi/salad choices and you put a number next to how many dishes you want of that item My family and I have never gone out to eat Japanese altogether before so we were quite excited for our meal. Reading some of the reviews on Urbanspoon did leave me feeling slightly hesitant about dining here so I was really hopeful that my family and I would end up enjoying the food! First impressions of the place was that I was immed
Michael Tan
Created an Urban Spoon account just to write how awful this place was. Food was average and service terrible. It was a Sunday night buffet dinner, except no food was coming out of the kitchen. All diners had empty plates for about 40mins in the middle of the session while the kitchen cooked for takeaway orders.
Chuan Liu
Worst tempura ever... Vegs need more prep and cut thinner, that unbelievably thick sweet potato was basically raw, so does rest of veg... And tempura fish stink...
Ally Marsh
Sashimi was to die for!! Everything we ordered was yum and the service was not super speedy, but very friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back

This restaurant is devoid of any striking features or atmosphere. It reminds me of a hospital waiting room. For a place that has "sushi" in its title, it doesn't do sushi very well at all! The sushi is let down by the rice pudding like consistency of the rice. It was warm and milky but lacked the sweet yumminess of rice pudding. However, I would advise that delicate flavour combination of spicy duck, mango and kewpi mayonnaise is simply amazing even with the wet Selley's no more gaps rice. BUT!!!! Let's not let the sushi and ambience get in the way of a good all-you-can-eat! For $38 per person you are issued with a a biro and a list of menu items with ticky boxes next to them. It's actually like ordering breakfast in a hotel room the night before or how my old aunt would order her next days food when she lived in a nursing home. I really enjoy ordering this way, which is good to know for if I ever live old enough to be in a nursing home I'll at least enjoy ordering the food even if I don't enjoy the good itself. With a strong encouragement of "please reduce wastage", we went nuts and ordered all the expensive stuff like sashimi! The fish was fresh and was served promptly. The little tapas sized meals of teriyaki chicken, that raw beef-stuff with raw egg (like a j-pop remix of the eurotrash classic steak tartare). tempura stuffs and gyozas are perfect to share. As far as Japanese food goes this is great. So challenge Momoco Sushi on a Sunday night and eat more than $38 worth of sashimi, just stay away for the sushi.
J
Not worth getting the takeaway hand rolls during the week unless you choose one without raw fish. But the fresh sushi made to order when you eat there is amazing and much better quality! Try the teriyaki salmon. I go there all the time specifically for that! A really good amount for the money and cooked so well! Definitely worth eating here off the menu (I'm not sure about the all you can eat food).
Brendan McLaren
Nice Ramen. Ate at Momoco for lunch on a Tuesday and chose the gyoza ramen. The soup base was delicious as were the dumplings. The vegetables were simple and fresh. For $10 this was a great meal. Wait staff were attentive and the complimentary tea was also nice.
Would be here often if I lived close by.
Alexandra
$$$ for the worst sushi I've ever had in my life and I've had a lot of bad sushi. The sushi was warm and mushy. I almost threw up. I got take away so I just threw it away but had I been at the restaurant I would have talked to the manager. Seriously disgusting.

Good waiting staffs, Sushi is reasonable good. However anything for kitchen such as soup, noodle, is very bad.

good environment, good waiting staffs, average Sushi, very bad kitchen foods, high price.
Dave91
The lady told me that they're under new management so I ignored past reviews. Got myself some sushi and can safely say that it's the best Japanese restaraunt for sushi in hawthorn! The best, thickest and freshest sushi hand rolls. The raw salmon roll is stuffed with fresh salmon, great value. Great looking place as well!

Bento boxes are the best!. I've bee here before, and didn't rate it then...bland soba noodle salad, and unimpressive dishes...but on a whim came back because the hubby had had positive experiences during lunch, and I am glad I tried again. Their bento boxes are amazing - a touch more expensive than many I have come across before, but such great variety (within and between boxes). My favourite has got teriyaki chicken, tempura vegetables, gyoza, spring rolls, salad, sashimi and rice, and the hubby loves the teriyaki beef with rice, karaage chicken, sashimi, spring rolls, and pork schnitzel - satisfies his fried quota!! Oh and we skip the miso...and they always give us something to replace it, even though we never ask!!
Give this place a go, if for nothing else, for their bento boxes!!!
KT
Not the worst. We came here on a Groupon All You Can Eat voucher for 4.
We arrived early, but were seated by a friendly waitress. She explained how the menu worked, and then left us to decide. We received a selection of salads first to start off, though we had to ask for plates after 10 minutes and water after 15 minutes.
The menu had quite a selection so we could pick what we liked. The Pickle Cucumber salad was really nice. The Avocado Salad didn't have much taste at all (we ended up mixing the two together and it tasted awesome).

The sushi came out pretty quick and I can't really complain about the quality, but it wasn't the best either. The soft shell crab and tempura prawns were very crispy and fresh. The nigiri and other raw fish didn't taste or look fresh at all, though they didn't taste horrible.

If anything, I'd recommend the two salads - Cucumber and Avocado (mixed together), the soft shell crab sushi, and tempura sushi.

Atmosphere was pleasant and the restaurant staff were friendly.
I probably wouldn't eat here, if not for the voucher.

NONONO Sushi. Rice for sushi is soggy (either press too hard or cook with too much water) and the fish wasn't with nice cut. Service was good when there are not that busy but at least they tried. Fried stuff was alright as Chinese are good with these. If you are here for donburi, not a bad choice but absolutely not for sushi. Had it with groupon but the serving was still alright without delay. At least we tried group buy and now we know group buy, all you can eat doesn't mean all you want to eat.

Good stuff. Came for work dinner.
Great sashimi and grilled wagu.

Was very good!! Family loved it!. We had dinner last night using groupon deal. It was very good. Read the last couple of poor reviews and was initially apprehensive. But we did not experience any of the poor comments and were pleasantly surprised with the food and service. We did 2 rounds of orders and were served very well. Kids enjoyed the hot dishes and had a good time picking out the varieties of sushis. We thought the groupon deal was very good value for money it as we would have consumed quite a bit! We left impressed and would readily recommend Momoco Sushi!! Well done!

If u bought a voucher from groupon, hey u already wast money! Don't wast more to get here and your time as well ! Any sushi bar in city is better than it...

Great food for family with small children - fast service & kind staff. Dined at Hawthorn momoco sushi with our 3 small children tonight and the food was delicious and the staff were excellent in their attention and service! Will come back!

Not recommended. First time been to momoco sushi with a groupon voucher. Disappointing! Sushi was poorly made: rice was huge, fish was thinly sliced. Fried chicken was cold inside. You may get better sushi in any food court than here.
Chris
Went here with a voucher deal, everything was alright for us. Good taste and quality. But quality of service still need to be improved. Very good value with voucher, can't wait for next time again!!
Kat
So dishonest. Rang up for booking for Saturday dinner. All good until mentioned Groupon voucher and then get told all Friday and Saturday nights are booked out till end of November. WTF
Izzy.F
I LOVE MOMOCO SUSHI! I could eat here every night of the week... Bento box A is my favorite thing on the menu

Good value. I dined here using the groupon voucher for 6 people. We arrived at our 7:30 booking on a busy weeknigh.

The salads (seaweed, cucumberX2, avocado, pickles) came out quick and the waiter clearly explained the deal to us. It takes roughly 10 minutes for the sushi rolls to come out then nigiri always follows 5-10 minutes after. I noticed we never got any of the salads even though we ticked the box every time. Maybe you only get it at the start? Also if you order a large amount such as 16 serves of nigiri they sometimes only bring out 12. Regardless we were happy with the service we received and were definitely full by the end of the night. I agree with the other user that the fish quality is similar to that of sushi sushi.

They state clearly on the ordering menu that service may be denied if there is unreasonable food wastage. Look at the situation from the business's prospective, how can they expect to make a small profit or break even if all you eat is the fish for $14.50 pp. The rice is not disgusting, it's filling but definitely fine to eat.

Amaze!. I'm pretty sure the people that come on a groupon voucher don't actually understand that they're paying $49 for all-you-can eat sushi, and that they can't expect unlimited perfect sushi pieces with every order. If you're not fussy and expecting 5++++ star sushi, this place is great, and my fam and I had a thoroughly perfect time stuffing ourselves with gorgeous food.

If you're not rude to people, people won't be rude to you, and we thought the service was absolutely fantastic with our water topped up every five seconds and smiles all round. Will definitely be coming back the next time we crave Japanese.
Honestly, I think that they have a right to refuse people more food if you're just picking away the rice. That's practically criminal in Asian culture and doesn't anyone know that people in Third World countries are starving? Gluttony much.

Went on a groupon voucher. Value was good ($49 for unlimited sushi and nigiri for 4 people) however the rice wasn't great and the tuna nigiri did not taste fresh at all.

Good value for the groupon voucher but I would not come back again. Also we got charged an extra $1 each person for the "hot" dish that was part of the voucher...

Just went there using groupon voucher, the sushi rice was too soggy, the king fish nigiri still had a lot of skin made very hard to eat. Bought 4 people voucher, I have 3 kids and willing to pay extra, I have mentioned about 1 extra kid (4yo) and the girl said that I have to pay extra $10, once arrived the manager refused $10 and asked for $20 extra instead. Definitely won't come back even with voucher
Charlie
Terrible experience, bought all you can eat voucher on groupon, waited half hour for each order, service was terrible, food was not fresh. Never go back again
John
All you can eat yum. Was very good, maybe 4 stars :)

Went here on a voucher of a sushi buffet, was so excited about it, but this restaurant really disappointed me, sushi was okay, compared to sushi sushi grade, but that's it. Lack of variety, & don't think sushi is that fresh as the reviews say it is. Clean & modern place though, but I wouldn't come back,, for their sushi

Great value & consistently good food. The staff are very friendly. Parking can be an issue.

Terrible service. Sat for half an hr without food. When asked where it is, they replied with "its cooking" .what?! Its raw fish.

All you can eat - Great!. First visit to the place. Knew it was a buffet meal so got ready for it :-)
The seating area was warm and inviting. Once our group arrived we start to get our food. Kind of never ending food after food. It was very nice and fresh. The variety of the buffet was great and by the end it was a big smile with a full stomach. Service was good. Green tea ice cream for dessert was a good send off for the night.

Disappointing Experience. We've been here a number of times. It is close to home. Our young kids enjoy the hand rolls and gyoza and we can have something a little more adventurous. I think our visit on Saturday will be our last. Rude slow service. Average food. I think it's worth getting in the car to have a better experience.

Nice and clean but average food. Itโ€™s a charming place and the staff is friendly. Today, I ordered seaweed salad and sashimi donburi. The seaweed salad didnโ€™t come with salad. It was only seaweed in a small bowl and I could taste MSG in the dressing. Sashimi was fresh but very sweet teriyaki sauce on vinegared rice didnโ€™t match together and gave the rice unpleasant taste. I also thought the rice was somewhat soggy. Maybe, it had too much vinegar. Please keep cooking simple.

This was a regular dining establishment for my girlfriend and I until the day we were left sitting without menus for fifteen minutes.

We decided to give it another try and it went something like this.

The only thing that was decent was the salmon teppanyaki. The gyoza was too thick and soggy. The tofu was thick and sponge like instead of a lovely fluffy texture. My sushi and sashimi? Well I'd let you know if the waiter had bothered to pass on that I wanted it ordered...

Service was slow and sloppy. Will be heading to Ocha from now on.

Fresh!. Have been here a couple of times now and the highlights would be the freshness of the dishes and the presentation. Definately a favourite, with great service as well.

Sunday all you can eat. The variety of food available for all you can eat is amazing. The price is unbeatable too. I don't think I've ever had better value Japanese food. Would definitely recommend this restaurant .

Not good at all. The food is sloppy and crass. Bad oily batter for tempura. Not sashimi quality fish for the sashimi. Teriyaki fish was drowned in bottled sauce. So why all the glowing reviews?! The staff were nice.

Good food, good service , luv the sushi buffet, all u can eat , fresh too ;)

Delicious. I'm a Japanese food fanatic. Enjoy their miso, gyoza and #22. Saki ebi miaki. So delicious, it's prawn and avacardo sushi roll wrapped I'm salmon. Their spicy prawn hand rolls are amazing too!! Hawthorns hidden gem!

Great staff, service, food, decor and atmosphere! I expected a different feel because it looked quite high-end, however it was relaxing and the staff attended to us very promptly.
Great restaurant! Love it, and definitely want to keep it as a little secret among my circle of friends. The all you can eat is full of so many options and so fun to order.
Would be very happy to return!

Sunday all you can eat dinner. Not many restaurant doing Japanese all you can eat, this one has been on my trial list. Got there early, ticked the food we would like to try first, when I had scallop sashimi, it is so fresh so the flavor jump into my mouth, same as other fish sashimi. Sea urchin sushi and duck mango roll were very re-freshing. Beef tataki almost melt in my mouth. soft shell crab salad was a winner. Oylster croquette, and tempura are OK. We could see some Japanese people sitting next to our table, they had platter after platter of sushi and sushimi only, with some salad to go with.
This is the sign that seafood is very fresh there, as long as they are fresh, they will do the talking. A wonderful dinner experience, we will be back.

Worst. Service. Ever.. The restaurant looks funky, and the food was good, but I wouldn't go back, even for a free meal. We waited well over an hour for it food. Drinks took 45 mins. Entrees longer - all served at different times so half the group was finished before the others even got a sniff. Shellfish closed and inedible, not to mention badly cleaned. Plastic in the pork belly. Ignored by a manager who was very good at pretending to look busy. Very disappointed. :-(

Consistently good food. We love this place and come here practically every fortnight with our kids for dinner. Have brought the high-and-mighty grandparents here too and there were no complaints. It's not the cheapest, but it's superior in quality and service. Husband and I love the yoshi nabe (seafood in a light broth) and the agedashi. Kids love the yakitori chicken. The sashimi is a big hit all round. We have never made a booking but have not found we needed to. Service is quick and friendly. Love it!

Funky!. Been here a few times. The sushi and sashmi is great so fresh and generous servings! The bento boxes are also really good value and tasty. Only issue I have with this place is that the Gyoza doesn't taste very good and they can't speak much english... other than that good place!

Having all u can eat at Sunday nite, quality of fish is good despite mass production. Recommended!!

Ni? I'd say No! Been here a number of times hoping, wanting to give it the thumbs up, but alas, a poor imitation if Japanese-style food with not a Japanese in sight. One fish dish was so bad and overcooked the waitress came over and took it back saying "not very good right?" and that was without prompting, a nice gesture but it should never have left the kitchen. Nice decor

Just picked up some take away, looked great and had the promise of being very nice. However, upon lifting the plastic lid of the sashimi platter I was smacked in the face with the smell of old bait let out in the sun. Not pleasant. Needless to say I called momoco to let them know that the fish was off and was accused of lying. I've eaten sashimi hundreds of times so I am an experienced judge of what is off. I don't recommend you go, you might get an unexpected surprise.

Quick and tasty!. Fantastically fresh Sashimi! Great selection of Sushi and friendly staff.

Poor service, expensive food - seafood hotspot only has 2 small prawns 1 scallop 2 fishes n few vege costs me $18 English is poor n they don't know what's on the menu. The only positive review I can give is the scallop sashimi which is rarely found in sashimi platter

Dependable and relaxed. I have been to Momoco Sushi in Hawthorn several times, resulting in a positive experience on each occasion. The food is good quality, with very fresh sushi and sashimi, and the service has been attentive and friendly. The place has a relaxed atmosphere and food and drink are reasonably priced. Child friendly too.

Ni ?. In the interests of transperency and honesty, i have to admit i considered give a bad review - but only so that no one else found this place. I worry that if other people realise the quality of the food, the nifty style and the incredible booze selection that i couldn't keep it all to myself.
Convenient by foot, but not by car (it's ok, you can sell yours across the road), Momoco is fun, fresh and fantastic. If i had to hazard a guess at the negative reviews regarding service it would be because they're busier than they expected... I don't think they knew what they had!
I have no idea what Ni means - 2 ?

By far our favourite "Local". We visit Momoco Sushi in Hawthorn at least once a fortnight. It looks a little like a "lunch place" from the street however it is actually a well-patronised, "standard" Japanese restaurant serving not only a Sushi but also a selection of the usual Japanese hot dishes. While the menu might be standard, we find their food across all dishes of a higher standard than any other Japanese in the Hawthorn/Kew area, and the prices extremely reasonable. Expect to pay around $17 for a large main course, or about $10 for a generous dish "with rice" (i.e.: smaller meal serving with rice).
Ingredients are fresh, the meat tender, the vegetables crisp.
Service is variable - some nights super-smooth, others totally off-key. Not sure why it varies so much.
Momoco Ni is no fully licensed as well as BYO which is handy if you are nipping in for a quick bite (as we often do) and just want one glass of wine.
I would not necessarily go to Momocu for "night out" but as a local, dependable and quick in-out restaurant, it is definitely our favourite.
PARKING TIP: If arriving after 7pm or any time on weekends, turn into Lynch Street directly opposite Momoco (across Power St) - as you enter Lynch St on the northern side (adjacent to the railway line) there is a car parking area which is safe to use, and just nip across the street - easy!

Service,a drag. The sashimi was fresh enough for a all you can eat japanese restaurant and value for money however the staff and service was more of a drag.

It was our first time there and we had absolutely no clue, no one came to take drink orders or explain anything after we sat down for 10 minutes, (bearing in mind we were there early).

We didn't want to waste food so we asked about the quantity and size of each dish; and we were surprised to find we had so much left over by the end of the meal because the quantity advised by the waitresses were incorrect. We felt so bad for wasting food.

One thing that disgusts me is customer service handling. We finished a bottle of wine and I asked the waitress if I could have another glass of the same wine. Giving her my used glass, she came back 5 minutes later with a glass of wine in a used glass with lip gloss on it. How was I meant to know whether that was my original glass or someone elses??? I think that is totally unexceptable.

Good fresh sushi. Terrible for parking but worth the walk.

Great value. I've had a variety of meals from this place and have never been disappointed. The bento boxes are always good. The sashimi seems relatively fresh and good quality. The salmon teryaki is also nice too. If you live in the area this is well worth checking out. I wish i had a place like this close to home

Japanese Restaurant. Great casual Japanese restaurant in Hawthorn! We have been going there once a week for the past month because we love the food. Great value and friendly service too.

Sunday all you can eat. It pays to be there early, food comes out slower after that. Nice and fresh sashimi / sushi, you get your money's worth if you are into this. Ox-tongue, soft-crab rolls are very good too.

Stay away from the noodles, soba etc. Sea urchin isn't the best either.

Some dishes we ticked on the paper never came, but that happens at all restaurants that operates this kind of paper-based buffet.

I like it.. but only just. Good points first, I think the food here is decent. Salmon and Tuna for the sushi were good quality with a nice amount of fattiness in the flesh.
However, our waitress was a little ditsy and couldn't understand us very well when ordering. The delivery of the two sushi dishes wasn't well coordinated and the side dish of seaweed salad was forgotten. That was remedied when we reminded them. Our waitress wasn't good a monitoring the tables and didn't have a keen eye for when we wanted service and another waitress ended up picking up the slack. Our bill had extra ice cream items on it because the desserts had a choice of ice cream and someone had made a mistake. That was remedied too however.
So, in the end, it wasn't a bad experience and so I'm not voting that I don't like it. I do like this place, but only just...

Great quality sushi (except ikura) and helpful service. However one dish we ordered never showed up.

The chicken gyoza are a big hit! Floppy and slippery lovely pockets with rich, flavoursome chicken with something a little extra in the mix to give it an extra flavour! Very , very yum!! The sashimi plate is super fresh and super gorgeous! Nice portions of tuna, kingfish and salmon with a little wasabi and soy YUM-Tastic!! So pretty! The Sushi plate is just as gorgeous with a generous serve of mini hand rolls and nigiri sushi with lots of lovely fresh salmon and tuna. You cannot fault the quality of produce here OR the speed they are getting the dishes to our table. The meijii roll is STUNNING! Fresh mango, roast duck, avocado and mayo rolled in egg skin - so good.... read more at my blog

However, at about $25 each for dinner, which included one beer, I was pretty satisfied with the value for money and have already returned for an impromptu lunch with my grandma and brother, who went gaga for the curry!
