Review The Kilburn - Hawthorn

Came here on date night for after dinner cocktails with the partner. I had the Grape Gadsby and he had the Dark Passion Fruit Daiquiri, both were perfectly made and tasted amazing! To top off the drinks the atmosphere was great even though it was a quiet Sunday night and the staff were amazing!

Came here on a hot Sunday afternoon, very little people which was perfect for my group who wanted to relax, enjoy our drinks and chat. I had the gold rush cocktail while my friends had the berri bellini jug. Drinks were easy to order online and beautifully presented. The staff here definitely know their stuff here.

Popped in for an after work drink and was lucky enough to meet the beautiful Jessie and Alex. Was instantly made to feel welcome and got some recommendations on the drinks we would like. It's a cute place and cute vibe. Fantastic service and warm atmosphere in general. Also the cocktails are delicious 👌🏾

If you're after whisky, and bar staff who know what they're serving and not just pouring drinks, you'll love this spot. Local restaurants providing food delivered to your table.

Incredible venue! Best vibe no matter what kind of night you're looking for. Alex made me feel so welcome with the best smile, drink recommendations and conversation, this place really hit the jackpot with their bartenders! Will definitely be coming back!

We had our engagement party at The Kilburn and it was the perfect venue for it! Andrew and his staff made everything really easy to organise on the night and were also very easy going and flexible. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Drinks and decor were great! The music, however, didn't suit the place. It was like club/dance music and was loud making conversation hard. We've been before in the summer and the music was not like this and was a much nicer atmosphere.

Had a lovely relaxed evening with an awesome jug of Berry Bellini. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The bar has a great atmosphere and delicious cheese boards. Highly recommend this bar for a quiet intimate evening with friends.

Love this place! Never disappointed. Cocktails and whisky is definitely 5 star! Decor is classy and service is always friendly and spot on.

I've been here a few times now, at different times in the night. Have enjoyed it every time. Fantastic drinks selection and the staff are super friendly & have great knowledge! They can even custom make cocktails for you, its awesome. Signs saying new menus coming soon, I can't wait!

They have comfy booths and you don't need to get up to get a drink, why in the god damn heck would you go anywhere else ! ?

The killburn decor and ambience was excellent. The whisky 🥃 was yummy. I felt sorry for our beautiful host as she cut her finger and had to go to hospital. I hope she is well as she was so inviting and accomodating. Worth a second visit soon.

Amazing whiskey bar with great whiskey selection! If you’re a whiskey person like myself this is the place for you also if you wanna try the worst espresso martini in town give this place a go. Order it and have a sip then let them know how bad it is and don’t drink the rest; You know what they do about it? Absolutely nothing!

Such a beautiful venue. Ive driven past on many occasions and wanted to check it out. Beautiful inside great vibe some drink specials DJ playing some tunes it was perfect for a Friday night.

This bar boasts an immaculate interior which will take your breathe away. Lush sofas and chairs and a cocktail menu to die for. I had the frosty fruits and my word was it good, I could have had so many more but had to stop myself.<br/>Highly recommend I'll be back for sure.

Not a place I would normally frequent, but I happened to stop by and was surprised at the range of craft beers on offer. It's a slightly upscale space with an older demographic than my own, but the drink selection makes it worth a visit. I didn't try any boilermakers, but each option on the menu sounds amazing. I'd love to go back and try one.

My absolute favourite bar in Hawthorn. Awesome Deco and really chilled vibes. Great beers on tap and a wide range of whiskeys. It takes a step away from all the uni student vibes and is a great place to catch up and have a chat.<br/><br/>If you're looking for classy but still affordable drinks this is the place to be!

Stunning, an absolutely stunning and sophisticated bar! Tim.E and I were in the mood for mulled wine and came here after a recommendation from a pub not too far.<br/><br/>Service was great and my mulled wine lovely, I am sure the cocktails here would be superb and if I am ever in the area again no doubt will come back and try.<br/><br/>Lots of seating and cosy booths at the back of the bar which would be good for group functions or visits.

Really enjoyed the Kilburn! Really nice cocktail joint in Hawthorn. Without having to venture right into city. It was just busy enough on the Friday night we went on. Service was good. Long wait for drinks but that's expected. Nice music and cool surroundings. Their pizza was good too which I heard they order from the restaurant across the rd. Very good! Definitely want to go back!

I stumbled into this amazing cocktail bar on a Friday night and absolutely loved it! The old bank exterior hides one of the most beautiful bars outside of the city. I grabbed a couple of the house cocktails on the bartenders recommendation which were great. I will be back soon to start getting through the crazy amount of whisky though. Top place.

Don’t left the outside fool you, inside is a nice little cosy cocktail bar with a great atmosphere. Was a function being held so couldn’t relax in the main area which was a little disappointing but was still nice to relax at the back where they have some tables and booths.

My bf and I decided to stop by for a drink on our way home, and what a great decision that turned out to be! The interior design of the bar is beautiful with teal, navy and gold colour schemes. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed, with a great soundtrack playing in the background. The bartender was knowledgeable and friendly, and even offered to make me a cocktail from scratch, which turned out to be one of my all time favs! We will definitely be returning here, and I would highly recommend coming here for a date night!!

Thought I'd give The Kilburn another go on the weekend when out with some friends, and I reakon it'll be the last time I attend this bar. The lack of menu is unforgivable at a place like this as my friends and I were keen to see what they had in stock, short of asking the bartender every time for prices/bottles on offer, ridiculous. The service is stuffy and over formalised at times and bartenders seemed to have little grasp of what was on the shelf when we ordered pretty standard whiskys, eg Glenmorangie. Unlikely to return.

Meeting for a drink in Hawthorn can be slightly challenging: there are the uni bars, the traditional pubs, or those intimate neighbourhood wine bars, but if you fancy a martini, or perhaps a good drop of whiskey, you can be hard pressed to find a place to go – until now.<br/><br/>Situated on the busy corner of Glenferrie and Burwood Roads, in the heart of Hawthorn, the charming heritage building that originally housed the Hawthorn Commercial Bank of Australia has reopened as The Kilburn, a cocktail and whiskey bar. Having driven past this building more than one thousand times, I was curious to discover what it was like inside. <br/><br/>It’s newly refurbished, although the space still retains much of its original character, which dates from 1887. Stepping through the front double doors, the interior is grand and opulent, with a combination of colourful velvet and leather lounges, gold chandeliers and stained glass windows. Despite the grandeur, it doesn’t feel heavy; the high ceilings help to create a light and airy feel.<br/><br/>Continuing the white and gold theme of the interior, the bar is topped with white marble and has a bronze tiled base. It’s long and very well stocked, and appears to have every spirit on offer, including over 600 whiskies and a substantial cocktail list. The staff is experienced and happy to guide you through your options.<br/><br/>Feeling peckish? Pizza is available from Santoni Pizza across the road. Alternatively, a house ploughman’s platter or charcuterie board is available.<br/><br/>I met a few friends for a drink before dinner and there was a private function on the same night, so it was very busy. I did think that the background music was a little loud, and perhaps not a perfect match for the ambience and crowd. But according to a local retail owner (who overheard me discussing my evening plans), the loud music doesn’t seem to be a deterrence – apparently there was a group of school mums there until 3am the previous weekend! Drumroll…I think we have discovered a Hawthorn venue that doesn’t kick us out at 10:30pm.<br/><br/>Great new places are popping up all over our neighbourhood, and the lively Kilburn is no different. Hallelujah, there is life in Hawthorn after dark!

f you haven’t been to this part of town for a few years, you might be wondering what happened to cigar den Baranows Lounge. The answer is that it was reborn in 2015 as The Kilburn, a cocktail and whiskey bar.

Dont go here for a Whisky and ask for a menu cause we as customers no longer need to review one and then choose a drink based on, preference, price or an 'ah-ha' moment. This once grand whisky bar has gone to the dogs and really has lost an identity. Its now 'cocktail play' seems to be lost on locals and this isnt a place i see surviving in its current incarnation. <br/><br/>We as a four dropped in for a few drinks post a nice day out, the chaps looking for a dram and the ladies a wine or cocktail. We were met with a very full of himself waiter cum manager who proceeded to demonstrate how little he knows of whisky, tells us they dont offer whisky menus...to the over 200 they have and decides to sit with us and bang on about wine to the ladies. <br/><br/>I was warned not to go there but being local I like to shop local. Not with these guys any longer.<br/><br/>

Absolutely love this place. Great selection of whiskeys, knowledgeable staff and very friendly too! Had a great time there and will definitely be back.

Great little whiskey bar in the suburbs. I love that they often do tasting nights here, which are typically quite enjoyable. Definitely worth a drink here if you're in the area. Plus, the pizzas are pretty tasty!

Classy refurbished pub<br/><br/>The Kilburn had gone decidedly upmarket with a fresh but minimalist refurbishment and a move from uni drinking hole to a high end bar with a focus on whisky.<br/><br/>The menu is limited but the pizzas are great, provided by a neighbouring business. It's a smart business model and promising new venue.
