Review Supernova - Hawthorn

I love the mushroom risotto!! The avocado smash was little cold and serve with one egg only, however the price was very reasonable. Milk coffee was good in all aspects. Filter coffee was not as great as my expectation. I will come back try more food and coffee.

Went there because the cafe I wanted to go was only doing takeaway. We had waited for a while for water, coffee and food, there were only 2 waitresses and they had to clean, make coffee, serve food and manage the tilt….. It was so busy and a bit crowded, my chair was constantly being bumped into by customers and staff…. It was very noisy and can’t really chat because there is not much space between yourself and the customers next to you. The coffee was okay, standard quality. The food was a bit disappointing, the Corn Fritters were lack of seasoning and quite powdery… The Salmon Benedict was not tasty, don’t order it unless they change the salmon supplier….

What a lovely day! I ordered flat white and smoked salmon. Food was flavourful and super fresh. Coffee was the best part cuz it's smooth and not too bitter at all!!! Highly recommend.

Lovely small cafe just off the main strip. Food was delish, I had the salmon Benedict and didn’t take a pic of my coffee as it came way late. The staff were friendly but a bit inexperienced. Great flavours so would come back again.

The coffee is pretty good, so is the food! Staffs are friendly too. Also, parking is pretty easy as there is a big parking lot nearby. It’s worth mentioning to say that you could visit the book store next door easily too, which is great! Worth trying and I think you would enjoy it :-)

The staff are nice, environment is bright, food is tasty, coffee is professional. The best place to enjoy the Sunday brunch with friends. I'll definitely come again. Thanks for making my day!

Very bad experience. It takes about one hour to serve the food. It’s not peak hour and there are only 3 tables in the restaurant. People sits in the table next to us ordered 10 minutes after us but get served 20 minutes early than us. The result is we haven’t got our food when the people in table next to us finished theirs. Also, there is an Asian lady who distort the whole story and claim our order is the last order even the truth is other customers comes 10 minutes after we order our food. She also serve without patience. Not sure this situation only apply to us or every customer. Hope the manager can see this review and do some changes or trainings to provide a better service to every customer.

Taste: Smashed avo: 9 - very generous portion size (avocado on all 3 pieces of toast!). Addition of sun dried tomatoes was fresh take. If only there were more of them! Truffle scrambled eggs: 10 - excellent flavours with perfectly buttery and flaky croissant. Coffee: 9 Ambience: 8 - Outdoor seating available, standard cafe decor, not too cramped; hidden kitchen area Value for money: 9 - excellent portion sizes for price (~$21 for food and coffee) Speed: 8 - food and coffee came out quickly Dietary Requirements: Many good vegetarian and gluten free options Comments: availability of newspaper ✅ Overall: 9/10

Cute little cafe. Not super busy on a weekend. Nice place to have a relaxing brunch. Friendly and quick service. Porridge was too creamy for my liking. Couldn't finish the whole bowl. But love the poached pear.

Have been here couple of times, the burger sause and the powder on chips are very special, I'd say the chips are the best chips that I have had in Melbourne.

I visit Supernova twice a week, every week. Chai Latte is the best in town and every meal my husband has had (I just have Chai) has been beautiful. Lovely service from all the friendly staff.

Love this place! <br/><br/>Regularly stop in for coffee here - it’s connected to Readings, and the aesthetics are clean, white and bright. <br/><br/>Really friendly staff as well! Thanks for the good experiences guys 😊

Great location and easy to find parking!&nbsp;<br/>Ordered the Mashed Avo and Pumkin Fritter, both dishes served with a big smile by super friendly staff.&nbsp;<br/>The Pumkin fritter has an interesting fused taste of pair, rocket and pomegranate sauce. Although slightly dry I gave this one a thumbs up.<br/>For the Mashed Avo, the only feedback I got from my guest was that they disliked the content of food not spread across both pieces of toast.&nbsp;<br/>Coffee was spectacular!

The food here was tasty and portion sizes were relatively small (just the way I like it as I have a small appetite) <br/>My only critic is that service here could be better? Like how I ordered a long black and latte but they served us two lattes <br/>Also when I raised my hand to order drinks, although the barista was next to me, she ignored me entirely until I said ‘excuse me’ <br/>But overall here coffee was good and the food is definitely worth the try :)

oh I really love the risotto here! The murshroom risotto was so good that I wouldn't think of any other restaurant. The supernova board was a quite creative one with veggies and meats. I will definately come again.

Visited here a few days ago and was impressed with the ever so helpful staff. But also because it's at the rear of Readings, so just off Glenferrie Road.<br/><br/>The menu is simple which is excellent - not too many choices which suits me perfectly.<br/><br/>Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Parking is pretty good in and around the area.

The place has great decor. The filter coffee was excellent and the service was wonderful. Conveniently located near Coles car park off Glenferrie Road. Highly recommended for those who are coffee lovers.

The design of this place is very cozy and the area is not big. Friendly staff and extensive menu. Food portion is quite reasonable. Good place to hang with friends.

Went on the wkend which I had been looking forward to and it seems something was a bit off with the wait staff as we waited 10 minutes to be seated, wait staff seemed distracted. As we sit coffees are ordered, when coffees come out waiter just walked off despite there being two menus in front us. Waiter walks off and realises oh were you wanting to order food today?<br/>Finally food comes out, waiter serves and starts to walk off and I said can we get some cutlery? Food was nice but the service was off.

Great and trendy place, simple and modern. the coffee is from symmetry and they do offering single origins for black and filter. Coffee well made and balanced. food was good too. the only thing I think these guys should improve is to have more cakes and other small things go with coffee. Overall a great place for coffee and brunch.

Wow! Absolute blown away by this cafe. Everything was superb. From the interior to the food to the coffee. In particular, their knowledge and passion for coffee was amazing! Our favourite dish would have to the Supernova Board!! Very clever presentation and super tasty. Overall great experience.

This cafe which recently opened up in Hawthorn is attached to a bookshop. Both the exterior and interior design is contemporary and minimal, making it a place worth trying out to say the least. I’m a fan of cafes with an all-day-breakfast menu, and this one has just that. The menu also focuses on modern fusion cooking. Food presentation, overall taste & service = all great!

Best place on glenferrie to grab a coffee and a beautiful plate of food. Would recommend for everyone as there is an option for everyone. I’ve had the breaky croissant, sweet potato gnocchi and smashed avo. Can’t wait to try more!!

What great place, simplicity, where less is more. the coffee is well balanced and the food looks beautiful and tastes yum!  Staff friendly and welcoming. I do think if they had more cookies and small things would make this place perfect.

Arrived at Supernova at 3pm and didn't see any of the food photographed here. No table menus. No Chalkboard. Nothing said to me. I'm assuming the kitchen was closed. Only had coffee and muffins for sale. Coffee was fine but it's cheaper elsewhere in the street. <br/>Surprisingly bland for a cafe one affixed to a bookshop. Would have thought it would have capitalized on the literary/ bookish location and made it an natural extension of the shop. Instead it's all white and clean and plain and has no social vibe. I might go back to try the food. This rating based on a no-meal visit.

I must've got them on a bad day, the service was really good from our first waitress, however the food less than average. When the (second) waitress bough my meal over she said "who is having the egg....and other stuff" the "other stuff" being spinach & mushrooms. They were both cold. My companions meal then came out around 15 minutes later, by which time I'd finished...her poached eggs were really watery. My friend and I ordered a pot of tea each and it was the most insipid, weakest pot of tea I've ever had. I had really high hopes for these guys, as I loved Bread and Jam for Frances, but for me it just didn't hit the mark.

Supernova only opened their door to customers 2 months ago. It located very close to Glenferrie train station. High ceiling, white brick wall and large windows make this place very spacious. Staff are very friendly and service is quick. <br/>The coffee was nice, I loved the freshly house baked muffins. It was a perfect breakfast or snack to have with their nice and smooth coffee. <br/><br/>The brunch menu was pretty standard but with little twist and creativity. <br/>#royal bake pumpkin#-crab meat, bacon, asparagus and couscous stir fry served with large slice of roasted pumpkin, 62 degree egg and sunflower seeds. It was presented artistically and delicious as it sounds. The large couscous were cooked perfectly with lightly chewy texture. All the seafood, meat and vegetable combination added lots of flavours into the dish. Egg tasted like custard and pumpkin was really tender and mushy. I loved this winter pumpkin dish, light yet tasty! <br/>#lamb burger#-cumin lamb patty served in charcoal bun and with crunchy fries. The bun was nicely toasted and tasted very soft; the lamb patty was juicy and had great flavours. The only thing didn’t appeal to me was the patty tasted little bit too sweet. Anyway, my husband enjoyed it very well. I would still recommend to people like burger. <br/><br/>We had a great brunch at Supernova, and would definitely go back for more their creative dishes. It will be our go-to cafe in Hawthorn.

I was in the mood for and a healthy and delicious brunch. Always tempted towards sweet things I managed to resist the urge and ordered a barley and cauliflower risotto. It was better than I expected. The little tempura zucchini flower while only quite small, added a significant crunch element to the dish. I scraped every single grain out of that fashionable ceramic bowl with my fork as other customers desperately searched for cotton wool and ear plugs. <br/>Service was lovely.

What a superb addition to Melbourne’s cafe culture! The menu is surprisingly different than most other places and when the plates arrive they don’t disappoint! Yum! Coffee is great as well. Will be back for sure!

Very very nice, friendly staff , good taste coffee, and perfect meal. I have long time not taste so good coffee like this. And about the meal, we order a garden and salmon, looks so beautiful, and yummy as well, that salmon no too much oil, just very delicious. I just weird why not too much customer at here, anyway i can't to wait share this perfect cafe for my friends.

Beautiful interior, friendly staff and a very lovingly made and balanced take away coffee. <br/><br/>But I can’t understand how a flat white warrants a $6 price tag in the middle of glenferrie, when there are an abundance of decent coffee options for a 3.50, 4.50 elsewhere. <br/><br/>Would love to return, but supernova couldn’t turn into my morning coffee spot because of the hefty price tag
