Review Marci - Hawthorn

Tony Cutcliffe
I was having unexpected visitors and my daughter advised me to go Marci in Glenferrie Road. It was even better than she led me to expect. It is a little shop bursting with fresh food made on the premises. Salads, soup, meats, roll, excellent coffee; and most of all a sumptuous array of cakes and delicacies all waiting for the fussiest consumers. The shop was as clean as a whistle and the team behind the counter were cheerful, professional and fast. I have lived in Melbourne for nearly 40 years and I truly believe this is the best fresh food shop in town.

Many places on Glenferrie Road but this one caught our eyes with it's selection of sweets in the window. Walked in and the place was bright and intimate, inside was a delicious selection of salads and bagettes too! Ordered a medium salad with choice of three salads and a protein for additional price and a corned beef bagette. The salad - massive! But each salad was fresh and delicious!! The bagette - bread was crispy tasted oven fresh and the filling was spot on. Service to be commended, friendly and super attentive gave us extra plates and a tong to share the salad. Coffee was ok, the almond milk from a carton - but thats a minor complaint. Will come back be back for the sweets!

Had time to kill... wondered past this unassuming door.. interior is clean and surprisingly airy for a small cafe. Coffee here is pretty awesome ! Nice cafe with large table to spread the newspaper out! Filled with locals coming in buying take out and a lot of passer bys attracted to the window display .. of various rolls and lunch item thingies. I would come back for coffee alone. Next time might leave room to try the salads. They looked awesome.

Probably one of Melbourne's best inner suburban cafes. Great coffee is complimented with fresh baked brioches, baguettes and cakes. And then they have freshly made salads . . . A wide selection. Well priced.

The food at Marci is excellent, it's a very pleasant place to enjoy a bite and the prices are very reasonable. The service was great too. Highly recommend.

Easily Melbourne's best cafe. It's evident the owner has perfected the art of baking. 10/10

Amazing salads, and I’d say top three cafes for coffee in Hawthorn. I visit a few times a week and I’ve never had a bad meal- the chefs are exceptional at making food and the baristas never make a dud coffee.

Love the choice of salads, friendly staff and their play with marketing . But you seriously can't go past their sweets....lamingtons, , passion fruit custard slice.....the list is long. But my favourite is the Brownie... irretrievably perfect!

The food was incredible! Yummy and healthy salads and the desserts were so good too, lots of choice and the best gluten free options!!!! Chef Marcus is really talented and passionate about all aspects of Marci, it is definitely worth a visit!!!

I don't normally like salads unless they are full of interesting ingredients and have lots of flavour. These salads have both. Freshly prepared each morning. Amazing. And the gluten free chocolate cookie with raspberry is my new favourite. That's what grabbed my attention as I walked past. Going inside I discovered the array of delicious salads. So glad Marci has opened in Glenferrie Road. There is nothing else like it in that strip in Hawthorn.

Such a cute cafe with amazing produce! As soon as you walk past you are mesmerised by the sweets and sandwiches in the window.

I recently tried the broccoli and hummus, cauliflower and chickpeas, as well as the pumpkin salad, all were delicious. Salami sandwich and mushroom & mozzarella brioche bun were super tasty. The chocolate cake melted in my mouth and wasn’t overly sweet. Also coffees are perfection and served in the cutest takeaway cups 😊

Definitely give this Hawthorn cafe a visit!!

I'm so surprised that more people don't know about this fantastic patisserie cafe up one end of Glenferrie Road. It has amazing cakes and pastries, a pretty atmosphere and the loveliest staff to help you with your choices.

Walking past, I was immediately drawn in by the beautiful pastries on display, and I knew I couldn't leave without trying a coffee scroll. There is also an array of savoury baguettes for lunch; but it's the cupcakes, cheesecake and pastries that I will return for. The coffee scroll was light and luscious, with a delicious spiral of cinnamon sugar and a nice coffee icing on top. Buttery and soft, it was one of the best scrolls I've had. We also had a vanilla slice, which had a velvety custard filling, delicious flaky pastry and a tangy icing.

The coffee at Marci is also excellent, as is the service; and I can't wait to come back to dine in and have table service at this lovely little touch of France on Hawthorn's busiest street.

In need of some mid morning caffeine I popped into Marci - a cafe a bit further up Glenferrie Road than my previous stops. Selling a variety of baked goods and hearty salads, I ordered what looked devilishly like a vanilla slice, to be told it was actually a passionfruit custard slice. With the same key ingredients in its makeup, I figured I’d eat and review it regardless.

Amazing place at the top end of Glenferrie Rd (near MLC and Barkers rd interchange). Small - no more than 20 or so seats - but open, light, airy place and an emphasis on fresh and simple. (Lots of takeaways whilst we were there).
Filled baguettes, bagels, croissants, salads and cakes/pastries. Not cheap at $13 for a baguette, $8.50 for a bagel but my oh my. The tastes are sensational - possibly the best corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian mayo ever! Truly divine! We'll be back!

Best cafe on this road. No fads, and not a cafe with people who are there to take Insta-worthy pics of average tasting, overpriced food creation. Just an unassuming, peaceful place with consistently good house made food, whether it is the cakes, rolls, bagels, salads, coffee - you can depend on deliciousness every time.

Amazing fresh salads, with really interesting combos. The salmon was absolutely delicious.
SuziEats
Great place with a diverse range of salads and baguettes. There are a lovely selection of sweets. And the sausage roles are insanely good. I am so happy I discovered this place.
Coffee Cup
Great coffee in a light and spacious cafe. Pastries are delicious, we had a raspberry muffin and apple cake. Home made and yum. The baguettes and salads looked delicious but we didn’t try them. Really great find.

Marci is one of my regular favourites in hawthorn! They have a big range of amazing fresh salads and you can add salmon or chicken to them(even though they are already quite substantial).
Their baguettes are amazing! Rare porterhouse with celeriac, silverside with saurekraut, mayo chicken, they’re all my favourites. Bagels & the sweets selection are as good as they look too.
I’m yet to have something there that I’m not impressed by. Simple food but made with a lot of love and fresh ingredients. Coffee is top notch too!

This place was recommended by a work colleague due to the salads. I love it! The salads are great and tasty. The best part is that it is all vegetarian, if you would like meat/fish with it, you pay the extra for it on the side.

I would be back to try out the varieties of salad. I had the small which was 2 salads and the portions were sufficient for me! I was pretty happy.

The cakes do look delicious as well.

Well what can I say first impression, the shop is clean, staff are friendly and greet you with a smile. Food taste amazing, coffee is good. Walked in just for coffee walked out with extra stuff. That’s what you call a great set up, making customer want to buy. I love the display in the window, I just think they might need some signs to tell u what they are, but love the place, keep up the good work. I will be back soon!

Great friendly service, brilliant coffee, tremendous baked goods and fresh salads. Always current newspapers so you can catch up on news while waiting for your order.

Prompted by a recommendation from a friend, I popped into Marci the other day for a takeaway coffee and lunch.
Initially I thought I would just order a coffee but their salad cabinet and sweet treats display in the window just looked too good!
They had about 6 or 7 different salads to choose from and if you choose the small takeaway box you can pick two. I chose the sweet potato & quinoa one, and raw broccoli with cashew cream. These salads were seriously some of the best that I’ve had. They were unique, super fresh and very well thought out. The coffee was delicious too albeit a tad expensive but I’m so glad I’ve discovered this place! It’s going to be my go to healthy lunch spot.
I went to an asian grocery store in Glenferrie rd and came across this cute cafe. I wasn’t planning to buy bread or cakes, but their cakes were beautifully sitting on the display by the clear window. They looked so amazing, I could’t help myself to buy a blueberry friand and a carrot cake with a latte. They tasted even better. Very humble service and the cafe felt so homey!

Pastry over Coffee ...

Classic shop front filled with baked goodies to draw you in .... it worked.

Good deal on the go, $6.00 for a small Coffee and Scroll, add an extra plain Croissant and voila ... a happy coffee afternoon time.

Not quite a fan of this Wide Open Road coffee beans and La Marzocco combo.
Easy welcoming service, we'll be back for more pastry I reckon. JT-27/11/2017.

Nice decor, great salads and coffee ok. Food presented well. They should offer water when eating or having a coffee. Limited seating so challenging for groups of 4 and above.

Have been here several times for their baguettes, different everytime and they have been great. Salads are delicious and healthy, good portions too. Walk away with something sweet like their hazelnut brownie, it is worth every calorie!

Very friendly atmosphere, and great service. I love the coffee & the cake is to die for. The salads are very healthy varied and tasty - Yummy

Loved their matcha latte! I also had pear and ginger bread which was fresh and yummy. Their bakes look good. I definitely come back to try the rest :)

I was in the area and needed a chai latte before work. I thought I'll try Marci as I've seen them on Instagram and wanted to try their chai. Their chai lattes are made with a syrup instead of leaves or powder. The syrup was different, it had a more intense chai flavor which is good. They had a range of wholesome breakfast items which looked delicious. I'll definitely come back for another chai latte and I want to try their salads.

My new favorite lunch spot!

Super friendly staff, great coffee and a wonderful selection of fresh salads - all reasonably priced and always generous servings.

All the food is amazing, the salads are always fresh with a great selection of flavours. Some of the best cakes in Melbourne and great coffee too.

This place is the actual best. Fresh tasty salads that taste and look incredible and coffee done so well. The coffee is Wide open road - the best bean in Melbourne - made by some amazing baristas - all of the staff are so friendly and helpful and know how to work a coffee machine.
The cakes are super delicious, I recommend the cinnamon scrolls and the hazelnut and olive oil chocolate brownie- so moist.
Salad wise, can't go past the cauliflower and pearl cous cous salad and / or the sweet potato and red rice. So much flavor. The chef knows how to herb.
Everything is made onsite. The baguette options change daily. This is a place you can go to everyday and try something new. Do yourself a favour.

A great spot to wind down, gorgeous salad selections too.
Found out the owner makes everything, EVERYTHING, himself including great range of desserts and savoury brioches.
Absolutely recommend pearl couscous salad and red rice with chili jam salad, also cinnamon scroll and almond orange cake (GF).

Relaxed atmosphere will inspire you to stay a little longer, sipping your hot beverage and lazily turning through the pages of the wide variety of readings on offer. The display case offers sensual salads which actually taste as good as they look. Something sweet? The front window display could be mistaken for a diabetics masterpiece. Motown turns aid with your digestion so you leave feeling happily satisfied. Worth a visit if your around town.

Had a salad take-away. It was tasty, filling and very well priced(12.5aud!). The cashier lady was very nice and patient with me when I didn't understand how the salad menu worked. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm moving to Sydney in 9 days I would probably be a regular! :)
