Review Hawthorn Brew Bar - Hawthorn

Michael Boyer
Good food at a reasonable price. Friendly service. Decor has potential but feels a bit tacky in some regards. Breakfast burger with potato gems a good meal!

Food was pretty good. However the food took forever to come. Maybe it was just us as the the table that came after us when it was more quiet for theirs relatively quick.

Unpretentious little cafe with great food and drinks options. Brunch was delicious and staff were super friendly!

Hawthorn Brew Bar is situated in the heart of Hawthorn on Glenferrie Road offering your morning coffee ritual, an all-day breakfast and a lunch menu accompanied by delicious drinks. We started the early morning in the sunshine with a latte and lactose free cappuccino. Each coffee was poured well and the coffee was not burnt. Both coffees were quickly finished before our chosen dishes were served by the lovely owner Sam. We had ordered the Buttermilk Hotcakes and Seasonal Avocado. - The Buttermilk Hotcakes were topped with a very rich Chocolate Ganache, Salted Caramel Popcorn and Orange Maple. The hotcakes were extremely fluffy and delicious. Perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth! (NF, V) - The Seasonal Avocado was small on size but large on flavour. The dish was full of seasonal treats including Truss Tomatoes, Pickled Baby Beetroot, Goat Feta Mousse and a perfectly poached egg on top of the crunchy Toasted Multigrain. Found that this and a latte was a perfect light way to start the day, had a mixture of sweet and savoury that left you feeling light. (NF, V) The Brew Bar does pour a decent brew and serves up a divine brunch and lunch menu! Great service, great feed and great venue to people watch!

I like the service a lot. He is sooo kind and patient. But the waitress is a little bit careless. Pork belly is amazing. And scramble egg also tasty. Latte is nice. Cappuccino is a little bit too sweet probably..i don't feel like it.

😱Lizzie’s first impression: a humble cafe situated on the busy strip of Glenferrie road. The staff here are so incredibly warm and welcoming. The place is quite small but it’s neat and has everything you need in a cafe - seats and a great menu. 🍩Lizzie enjoyed: we ordered the breakfast for two platter and it ended up being much bigger than I had envisioned. There were eggs made three way - baked eggs (which was incredible with the egg cooked just right), scrambled eggs which was amazingly fluffy and also eggs sunny side up that looked and was perfectly cooked. It also came with two massive portobello mushrooms, hash browns, bacon and even two kranskys. They also had a buttermilk hot cakes stack at the top of the two tier platter - it was fluffy and not too sweet. All in all - definitely great value for money and even better because it tasted delicious! We also tried the Pandan sago pudding and it was delicious. It had a really fresh raspberry gel on top and some seasonal fruits - it was warm and made me warm and fuzzy on the inside. It wasn’t too sweet and kept me wanting to go back for more. 🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: N/A 🥇Lizzie rates overall: I loved the menu and the food was cooked with love - definitely will be coming back!

The food was amazing - a few options that sounded so good we’ll have to come back to try them. Lovely staff, clean, friendly and welcoming, and food was very well priced.

From the moment I entered this café I was drawn to the stylish decor, especially the splatters of colourful flowers that added warmth. The staff were so friendly and accomodating, and made us feel very welcome. I ordered the Green Machine Smoothie which had a smooth and creamy texture and had a mixture of fruit along with some delicious kale. I had the Big Breakfast for two, starting with savoury and working my way up to the top tier for sweet. I loved dipping my crunchy hash browns topped with chorizo in to the flavoursome sauce of the Baked Eggs. The maple bacon was thick and nicely crisp along with the perfectly cooked scrambled eggs on toast and roasted tomatoes. The Hotcakes were thick and moist, served with delicious fresh fruit, and the most memorable choc orange ganache. It was honestly mouth watering! The Sago Pudding was so pretty, and the textures were both interesting and tasty. The crunchy and fruity flavours worked so well in the same bite! It was a lovely sweet and warm finish to a brilliant meal!

Food here is well presented but lacking flavour. Coffee was good. The meals just need that extra “oomph” and would def give it extra star

My Rating: 3.5

Hawthorn Brew Bar has such a deceiving name. At first I thought it was a place for beer haha! This little cafe is modern and serves a mixed fusion-Australian menu.

🔆LOCATION🔆

Hawthorn Brew Bar is situated on Glenferrie Road near the corner of Kinkora Road (closer to Barkers Road main intersection).

The cafe is bright and welcoming, with good amount of seating outside and inside.

🔆SERVICE🔆

I had the best waiter serving me. He was very patient and knew the menu very well. Service was attentive and efficient.
My drink must have been forgotten but it was made instantly once discovered.

🔆MENU/PRICE🔆

Miso Barramundi, $25.00
(Miso Marinade, House made shiitake dashi broth, Asian greens, tempura enoki)

El Troppo Smoothie, $9.00
(Mango, pineapple, honeydew,coconut milk, yoghurt)

🔆VERDICT🔆

I decided to try something different and not order that's not typical breakfast/brunch related food items.

After a short chat with the waiter I decided to get the Miso Barramundi.
The fish was very fresh and delicious, made perfectly - I think they could have added a bit more miso marinade as it was a bit too light in flavour. The shiitake dashi broth was served in a separate little jar and it was more like a soup base rather than a dressing for the fish. If anything this dish could have been better with a small bowl of rice or changed into a noodle soup (shiitake dashi broth) with the Miso Barramundi as the hero ingredient.

The El Troppo Smoothie was a bit of a let down and not really worth the price.

Found this place on Zomato Gold, good range of menu options and friendly service.

For a Saturday brekky it wasn’t super full but quite a few customers around 9:30am. I had the pandan sago pudding, slightly warm and very filling, enjoyed the flavours and the fruits to go with it. My friend had the roasted pumpkin on quinoa, while the presentation was good, it was a bit bland and seemed more like plain steamed pumpkin and chopped avo on plain quinoa.

Might visit again because of the Zomato Gold deal for other lunch items, maybe the tower dishes for 2!

Best coffee and food. Great service.👍👍

First time to this cafe in Glenferrie with mom. The owner recommended the slow cooked beef cheeks and Barramundi. Both are their signature dishes. The Thai curry sauce on the beef cheek had just the right amount of spice and the meat was melt in the mouth! Barramundi was cooked to perfection and the tempura battered enoki mushrooms were so light and crispy. Both are must try dishes! Coffees were good too. Will definitely go back and try other dishes.

We were drawn to this cafe by the Eats Club 45% off deal. Although staff were friendly, nothing seemed to be particularly organised. It was difficult to order as staff were hard to identify.

It took awhile for the food to arrive. We ordered the Miso Barramundi and the Seafood Linguini. Both were tasty but the servings were not worth the $26 each. The Miso Barramundi’s name was quite misleading as the only “miso” was a mushroom broth.

Not exactly a great experience....

Good quality food and beautiful presentation, plus polite staff made a real difference. We ordered fried chicken burger, big breakfast (with perfect scrambled eggs), miso barramundi and seafood linguini. We enjoyed them very much. Will come back for sure.

Owner although didn't speak to my table he seemed on the ball and friendly enough. Wife's wagyu burger was a touch under done which isn't a biggie being beef, sides were perfect. Big breakfast was great too with nice thick bacon. $55 for two with an coffee was reasonable, our wait staff although nice enough was lacking in experience and seemed flustered. Can recommend.
Christine Kimonides
Awesome almond latte and sago pudding, plus friendly, prompt service. I'll be back

Wow! Came here with the fambam on their last day of Christmas holidays and what a feast we had! The food here is seriously good. My brother said it was the best he had while in Australia (and we were in ChinChins the night before so that says something!)
We had two delux brew bar stacks which were great because we got to sample everything! Buttermilk chicken burger and the Thai beef cheeks were frigging amazing! Then when I thought we didn’t have anymore room, my parents wanted to try the Sago balls. So glad they did - this dish is delish too!

Service was tip top, so attentive and friendly and the venue is lovely too, really serene actually!

Will defo be back (and bring the hubby next time!) thank you so much!
Carmen HC Yap
Nice and polite owner. The owner allowed us to use 2 zomato gold with $9 extra for 2 deluxe lunch tower.
The pasta was a bit tasteless for us. The cheek beef curry was tender . Coffee was good and the chips were very crunchy.
Timinmelbourne
I decided to call into this cafe for brunch. The breakfast options were limited and the menu was tailored more towards lunch food.

So I ordered a strong almond latte which was excellent, the coffee flavour was great, there we some good milk froth. The only thing I didn’t like was that it was too hot, but thankfully I had some water on hand that I added a few minutes later.

I ordered a buttermilk chicken burger w crispy fried chicken, papaya slaw, chipotle, aioli, american cheese, on a yummy matcha brioche bun.

The chicken was cooled really well, the papaya slaw was a bit light on, but tasty, and the matcha brioche bun was definitely a winner!

The chips were good but they needed to be hotter as they tasted floury and not that fresh.

But overall it was a good experience and the service from the Thai staff were very friendly.
Dan Wang
The presentation was good and taste wasn’t bad either. Would recommend.

Huge portions, but the flavours was just average! Like Manu in MKR said, sauce sauce sauce!!!! I ordered pork belly but half of it was overcooked and dry. The sauce over the poached eggs were minimal and it didn’t enhance anything!!! Attentive staff. Busy on the weekends. Has great potential!

Excellent!

We had to wait close to 50 minutes for our food. The owner/manager is friendly and accomodating, but the other servers seem a bit clueless. It is good if you can get a table, but if you're lumped onto the big booth tables, it's quite uncomfortable to sit. Food quality is good- I'd recommend the baked eggs, hotcakes or the chicken burger.

We visited Hawthorn Brew Bar using Zomato Gold (1+1 food). It was a busy Saturday morning so we quickly put our orders down. The coffee came really fast. Coffee was kind of weak and milky. By the time we finished our coffee, the food hadn't arrived yet. We ended up ordering a smoothie each. Smoothie was thick and flavoursome but didn't look pretty like advertised on instagram. Waited over an hour for our food and we kept getting the waitress' attention, but several times ignored. Finally the food arrived after an hour wait. Breakfast tower was appetising and a large variety, baked eggs, chorizo, hash brown, mushroom and a hotcake for dessert. However, we asked for fried eggs but was served scrambled, which pulled it off, as my friend does not eat scrambled. For 1+1, we ordered the Chicken Burger and Wagyu Burger, which was quite average according to my friends. Overall, there is room for improvement and hope staff could show more respect and punctuality of the food as we also noticed other patrons getting frustrated with the wait.

Food : we ordered big breakfast, bacons and scrambled egg were highlight of this dish. They were perfectly cooked, bacon were not crunchy, egg was silky smooth. Also ordered crab scrambled, real crab meat, egg, roes and pastry. Taste, texture are perfectly matched to each other. Yum..

Service : great service, friendly staffs

Price : it's good value with zomato gold

Overall : Will definitely go back to try their green burger and other dish, looks amazing.

Overall score: 15/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️
in 5 words: cheap and fast hawthorn brunch
*
Review: this is a cheerful little cafe along glenferrie road which caught our eye when we were looking for brunch places on zomato gold. Brunch menu looks like a mix of traditional Aussie brunch offerings and Asian inspired dishes, which is exciting!

We ordered the crab scrambled and crispy pork belly. What I loved about the crab scrambled was that it came with a puff pastry which was warm and consistently crispy. Sadly, we couldn’t really taste as much crab as we had hoped for. Crispy pork belly was slightly tough towards the centre of the meat, but otherwise everything else on the dish met expectations. Coffee was good. With zomato gold pricing , our meal came down to $15pp. Good value I would say!
*
Taste: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ambience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Presentation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Price: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Service: ⭐️⭐️

Love the breakfast deluxe and the lunch deluxe

Not sure why this place has such high reviews. The food tasted average to me, perhaps it just didn't suit my tastebud. The pork crackles were quite hard and chewy, not crispy, and I didn't like the texture of the puff pastry in the crab scrambled too. The staff was really friendly though. I don't think I would be back. It wasn't a bad experience, but I just don't enjoy the food that much.

Adored the crab scramble and the buttermilk hotcakes were yum but only if you like orange-y hints!

FOOD: We ordered the Crab Scramble and the Buttermilk Hotcakes. The Crab Scrambled was absolutely delicious and ACTUALLY had crab in it so I appreciated that and it was really flavourful (sometimes scrambled eggs can get abit bland but it wasnt the case for Hawthorn Brew Bars!) Definitely highly recommend the crab scramble for savoury lovers! The Buttermilk Hotcakes were delicious and a great texture but the hint of orange zest threw me off slightly and though it was a delicious dish, I prefer classic pancakes! But if you like Jaffa, this dish is for you!

SERVICE: Service was pleasant.

Service was good. As for the food and drinks, coffee was great and the fried chicken burger was not only great to look at but was delicious. The exterior of the chicken was crispy and interior was juicy. The salad was fresh and crunchy, very easy to tell they used fresh ingredients.

Went here on Melbourne cup. Service was a bit slow but it’s understandable since it was during lunch hour. The food was delicious and the plating was superb. The management team were amazing and they did a great job.

We arrived as the kitchen was closing. However, the owner was very kind and allowed us to make a final order. Thank you for the wonderful service!

I loved absolutely everything about hawthorn brew bar. From the moment I stepped into the cafe I was looked after the owner Sam, who clearly works very very hard as he was making sure everything was okay and everyone was happy.

I ordered the deluxe lunch tower to share with my mum. It was AMAZING. There was plenty of food to the point where neither of us could finish it. The food was delicious!!! The highlight for me was for sure the chicken burger they had - perfectly cooked chicken with a huge amount of flavour. The linguine was also cooked to perfection.

Everything on this tower was bursting with flavours and cooked with love - I honestly don’t have a single fault to share about anything.

Can’t wait to come back - I will be trying everything on the menu for sure.

Was drawn out here specifically to try the Pandan Sago Padding spied on Instagram... and it did not dissapoint! Although they were busy they were friendly and my partner had the baked eggs which were great to. Zomato Gold made this meal a steal. Will be back!

The crab meat scramble is well flavoured, the pastry is light and crumbly which adds to the texture. The bake egg is also very nice, with the mozzarella giving it some additional chewy texture.
Overall a nice experience and love to come again.

Buttermilk fried chicken burgers are 👌👌

Yummy pork belly breakfast! All ingredients were prepared with care and the result was delicious elements that complimented each other.

Very friendly service, food was prompt. The lunch deluxe was huge and offered a great variety of dishes to try. The chicken buttermilk burger was delicious, brioche bun was easy to eat. The sago pudding was not super sweet and was warmed.

Shared the deluxe tower with friends today was absolutely delicious. Seafood linguini, chicken burger with papaya slaw, slow cooked beef cheek, and a mountain of fries and sauces, Rice and roti was also available. We also sampled some gorgeous smoothies Glenberry Road and ElTroppo. Service was so friendly. The barista Sopa was really nice and took great care of us. Look forward to trying the rest of their menu soon.

I can barely put into words how amazing my experience was at Hawthorn Brew Bar!
Sam and his fantastic team were so friendly and hospitable. We ordered some coffees which were just what we needed, as well as the brunch tower (between three of us). The brunch tower was so so so insanely epic, with the tastiest selection of sweet and savoury elements. Absolutely loved the tomato’s and mushroom, as well as the baked eggs in the centre 😍 my absolute favourite was the buttermilk pancake on top which I started with! It was so light and fluffy, and the chocolate mascarpone was so smooth and full of flavour. A fantastic cafe that I can’t wait to return to 😍😍

Hawthorn Brew Bar has been open for just over four months and this new kid on the block is already gaining traction with many locals.

Situated at the north end of the busy Glenferrie Road stretch, this cute café offers a very diverse menu for its size.

We tried their Deluxe breakfast tower on the weekend and it was a big breakfast on steroids! All your usual suspects for a big breakfast plus more, presented beautifully on a two tier lazy susan. This alone could comfortably feed three average adults.

Coffees were excellent and are made with Milklab milk / Bonsoy.

The owner Sam was very accommodating and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed.

A pleasant experience and highly recommended.

This cafe ticks all the boxes! We had breakfast today, coffee was so nice and the food was cooked to perfection. I would recommend this cafe to everyone if they want to enjoy a nice brunch.

Coffee is fantastic, thought we’d try out this new place and it was worth it (food and service was also great). Highly recommend

Ordered gluten free toast with avocado. They came out with this white spongy bread I wouldn't even give to a duck. Most cafes carry good quality brown buckwheat gf toast as we are in the year 2019, not 1995. It is inexcusable to serve this crap and charge a gf premium for. Also, they came out with 2 burnt end pieces. Terrible.

Expect good service with Glen -Thankyou

Great cafe for brunch and/or lunch. Shared Deluxe lunch for 2. Great sampling of the menu's highlights. Great combination of East & West cuisines. Be warned, go on an empty stomach as there is ample food! Very friendly hosts, where nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommended.

the food was cooked very well and presentation is also 10/10.

the staff were so friendly and helpful.

would definitely recommend the breakfast deluxe and lunch deluxe for 2 to share!
My favourite brunch spot! I’m always here with family and friends - it’s amazing. The brunch tower is perfect to share, if you want to try a little of everything! I also love the chicken burger (phenomenal), the lunch tower (I love the linguine on top - delicious). The drinks are superb, especially the chilli hot chocolate and the smoothies. The staff are incredible and so welcoming every time.

Fantastic service, delicious chilli hot chocolate and chicken burgers!

Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, great food, a really enjoyable experience and I highly recommend this beautiful cafe especially the breakfast and lunch towers

The solo waiter on the floor was fantastic and looked after our table beautifully! We’ll definitely come back soon.

The staff and hosts are very friendly but something must have been amiss out back when we visited. We waited a long time to be brought any menus. Had to inquire for water, waited almost an hour for our brunch food, despite it being half empty, and two errors in our order just rounded out a rather disappointing experience. Food was good but nothing worth writing home about, and the portions left us both unsatisfied upon departure.
Shari Lana
Amazing food- welcoming and fun staff! Loved celebrating our anniversary here and enjoying some delicious breakfast! Also- coffee was perfect- great temperature and good quality almond milk!

Food, coffee and service were all very good! Just one little thing, the pancakes were a bit sad without ice cream

The customer service was excellent, the staff and the management was absolutely amazing and polite on top of that the food was crazy good, best value for money

We had a wonderful experience at Hawthorn Brew Bar. The owner, Sam, was so accommodating! Their menu has Thai and Indonesian influences created by their talented chefs. The deluxe breakfast for two (breakfast tower) was ginormous, packed with all our brunch favourites including eggs three ways, thick juicy kaiser bacon and kransky, and a deliciously light and fluffy hot cake! Our favourite was their new menu item, the Crispy Pork Belly, their spin on the classic eggs benny with the perfect addition of succulent pork crackling! And for dessert, we highly recommend the warm, fresh pandan sago pudding, with a vibrant green pandan aesthetic and flavour you won’t find at any other brunch spot. 😍

Beautiful food and service. The waiter on his first day on the job served us well too kudos!
Ordered a lactose free cappuccino - very good flavour one of the best we’ve tried lately.
Seafood linguini has a very good stock to it. Nice piece of barramundi in it.
Carb scrambled eggs in filo pastry very well cooked. Would have liked a bit of vinaigrette with the accompanying salad.
Pandan sago pudding so incredible and large! The 2 of us could not finish it. Dined in on ZG , great service again. Thanks Hawthorn Brew Bar
Eating Happiness
Went here for a rather late lunch. The place is relatively new and even though it was late, there was still a great service and serving time.

For three, we ordered:
- Seafood linguine: the linguine was was very tasty, with a nice tang from the tomato based sauce. The baramundi slice was also very tender and there was a very generous amount of seafood that was in the pasta. The pasta itself was cooked very nicely, nice and al dente. The only down side is the portion size is quite small, probably wouldn’t be enough to fill you completely up if you're a big eater.

- Butter chicken burger: the chicken burger was very filling, and very tasty. The brioche bun was very soft and was the perfect bread for the burger. The chicken serving was quite big, and was also very tender and had a nice hit from the butter chicken sauce. The coleslaw in the burger also gave a pleasant refreshing aspect, in contrast to the quite rich butter chicken sauce.

- Pandan sago pudding: the sago pudding was something quite new, but delicious at the same time. It came onto the table warm, which isn’t seen very commonly. The pudding definitely had a strong pandan taste, and the sago was cooked nice and soft. It was also topped off with fresh fruit and coconut shavings. The fresh fruit was especially nice as it cut through the sweet pandan taste, and the coconut shavings added a nice nutty hint to the dessert.

Overall, this place is very delicious and would definitely recommend to others and come back to!

Found this place using Zomato Gold, so we had to try it out. We were greeted by a male in a checkered shirt (didn't catch his name) & was seated on the last table available. He went on to explain the menu to us, which helped us decide on what to order.

For drinks we ordered the el troppo smoothie & wet chai, for food we ordered the crab scrambled, baked eggs & Pandan sago pudding.

The drinks were good and refreshing, I had the crab scrambled, OMG it was a burst of flavour in the mouth & I was loving it!🤤 If you like scrambled eggs & crab, this is a must!
The baked eggs were also very tasty & hearty.
Now for the Pandan sago pudding, it was nice, but our opinion would be to serve it chilled instead of warm. Nothing wrong with it now, but if it was chilled it would be much better.

We will definitely need to come back and try the breakfast deluxe & the lunch deluxe. With them being part of Zomato Gold, there is nothing I can fault about their pricing👍

4.4/5😁

I brought my friend from overseas to explore Melbourne’s best coffee and I found this place. Sam (I assume is the owner) was very friendly and knowledgeable about coffee. My decaf tasted as nice as my friend’s latte. The food was really nice - especially the seafood linguine. The sauce was freshly made and full of flavour of fresh prawn. Will come back again!

the staff were the most friendly staff I’ve ever met which created the best atmosphere to dine in. We ordered both the lunch and breakfast platters, which were delicious and a great idea. My favourite would be the breakfast platter and I would definitely come back.

As soon as we walked in the cafe, we felt a warming welcome which was great. Although the cafe is small I love how cosy it made me feel. Staff were super friendly.

Favourites: coffee was strong and smooth, smoothie was delicious as well. The Breakfast deluxe for two was one of the best breakfasts tower i ever had. Everything was so fresh and perfectly cooked. The Kaiser bacon, eggs and baked eggs were amazing! I really enjoyed it and so did my friend, we finished almost everything leaving only a bit of a hotcakes as we were so full. I would come back just for this as I think its pretty good value for money! Would highly recommend if you’re unsure on what to have and feel like sweet and savoury.

Improvements: nothing, overall we had a pleasant experience!

Wonderful café with a great vibe. Tempting menu in the heart of Hawthorn. Delightful coffees from single origin- silky smooth cup of velvetness.

I discovered this place on Eat Club as they have a huge promotion for their new opening. They have been opened for 12 weeks as the owner said to me. It was a very nice place and I like the ambiance as well. The staff are friendly. I would say their highlight is definitely the crab scambled which was stunning so this is a must try for anyone comes here. Definitely recommend!!!

Real rating 4.25 ⭐️

We had visited Hawthorn Brew Bar for lunch a few weeks back and here’s what we had!

1) Brew bar lunch deluxe with 2 which included:

a) Spiced buttermilk chicken burger and fries - the buttermilk chicken patty was on point with its crispiness and juiciness! The matcha bun was a good base to go with the chicken!

b) Phanaeng beef cheek - this was a lovely curry dish as the beef was soft, tender and juicy and was not overly spicy! A very good winter warmer!

c) Barramundi linguini with a seafood medley - what I liked about this was the freshness of the seafood (prawns, squid and barramundi)!

2. Pandan sago pudding - served with raspberry gel, seasonal fruit, toasted coconut and pistachio! This looked really lovely and tasted yummy but I would have preferred a stronger pandan taste.

Overall, Hawthorn Brew Bar has a lot to offer and we would like visit them again to try the rest of their menu!

Hawthorn Brew Bar Cafe is a new cafe located on Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn. It had only been open for 6 weeks when we visited & we were so impressed. The interior is colourful & cheerful & the staff were so warm & welcoming.

My coffee was perfect & my friend loved her turmeric latte. The coffee art was also appreciated. We ordered a few dishes & smoothies.

The Crab Scrambled was a stunning dish, beautiful presentation with the eggs served in a puff pastry shell with truffle oil, parmesan & salmon roe. This dish was a knockout, full of flavour & chunks of crab & the flaky pastry was divine. A very creative & gorgeous looking dish.

The Pandan Sago Pudding was also impressive. The warm pandan pudding was perfectly balanced, creamy but not too sweet & topped with raspberry gel, seasonal fruit, toasted coconut & pistachio. Another winning dish, very unique & I’ll definitely go back to have this again.

We finished with the fluffiest buttermilk hotcakes, served with fruit, whipped chocolate ganache & orange maple sauce. Again, beautifully presented & visually appealing & the balance of flavours was spot on.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Hawthorn Brew Bar, so many beautiful & creative dishes & the friendly staff were a highlight. Very impressed with the food & service coming out of this new cafe, thanks so much for having us.

4.5 🌟
Hawthorn Brew Bar is a lovely new cafe on Glenferrie Road serving a really interesting menu with quite traditional items like buttermilk pancakes nestled next to really innovative dishes like crab scrambled eggs served like a pie in puff pastry.

We had such a hard time choosing what to order but finally settled on the Brew Bar Deluxe for Two ($49), a lavish breakfast tower with a massive 6 serves of eggs three ways (scrambled, fried and in baked eggs), along with a feast of accompaniments including kransky sausage, Kaiser bacon, portobello mushrooms, truss tomatoes and hash browns. For desert the top tier holds a serve of their buttermilk pancakes with a rich whipped chocolate ganache mousse, fresh fruit and salted caramel popcorn.

I was impressed with the high quality of all the ingredients and how everything in the tower went together and felt like a very cohesive meal. It is a massive serve for two so recommend sharing among 3 or more so you can try some of the other dishes too. I very much look forward to returning! Thanks for having us.
The Brunch Specialist
Hawthorn Brew Bar is a recent addition to the busy Glenferrie Road strip with a cosy atmosphere.

Stopping by for breakfast I had the crab scrambled and a coffee. The crab scramble served in puff pastry with truffle oil, Parmesan cheese and salmon roe was unlike anything I’ve had for brunch before. I enjoyed the contrast of the fluffy eggs against the flaky pastry. It was beautifully presented and full of flavour, and is worth trying if you enjoy seafood as much as I do. I thought all the components of the dish worked well together.

Overall I had a lovely experience at Hawthorn Brew Bar, the food and coffee was great and I appreciated the warm hospitality. I rate Hawthorn Brew Bar ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 and I recommend that you check them out if you’re in the area.

A new cafe that’s kicking goals in Hawthorn!

The interior is a mixture of modern, cute/rustic & middle eastern vibes. I love the clash of culture with a lot of the inspiration for the menu coming from the Thai heritage of the staff/owner’s wife. Those flavours came through the burger dish especially. The interior was so open & bright, with a lot to look at visually which made the cafe fun & exciting.

The coffee was very tasty, and I really enjoyed the house blend.
The sweet Glenberry Road smoothie (great play on words) was very tasty.
The food is delicious to say the least! I loved the Thai flavours coming through in the chicken burger. The chicken was crispy & paired with a nice, saucy slaw.
The crab scrambled was a very unique dish! The pastry was very crumbly & the crab was very creamy.
The buttermilk hotcakes were DELICIOUS! Especially the ganache that was on top. Oh my gosh, that was so yummy I could eat a bowl of it on it’s own! What a tasty, tasty combination.

The owner was so friendly & welcoming on the visit. He wanted to share the story of the cafe & the food’s origins which was awesome to hear! The food came out really quickly.

I’ll be coming back for those hot cakes sometime very soon!

Breakfast tower brunch!

We were lucky to be invited to this new cost cafe. Decorated with Thai decorations and flowers this cute cafe serves the most delicious breakfast tower.

Their tower consist of eggs 3 ways! From scrambled to fried and even baked. Together with mushrooms, hash browns, tomatoes, salad and a stack of pancakes this is what weekend brunch dreams are made of. We alas tried their Pandan sago pudding which was a treat.

This cafe is owned by a husband and wife duo.

What I ordered:
Miso barramundi
Baked eggs
Pandan sago pudding

The miso barramundi was perfectly cooked and the flavours were really light and delicate. It‘s a lovely lunch option, which is served with a house made shiitake dashi broth that you pour in yourself. Loved the crispy tempura enoki!

The baked eggs had a nice little spicy kick from the jalapeños. The chorizo inside was super flavourful. The grilled ciabatta with butter was so good to dip into the baked eggs.

The pandan sago was so fragrant when it arrived. It’s served warm which is so nice for the colder weather. It also had bits of jackfruit in it which added extra sweetness and texture.

The team there are super lovely as well!

Have been to Hawthorn brew bar twice now and have thoroughly enjoyed both experiences, I ordered the rice pudding as it was something different and loved it, I don’t know what I was expecting, but this blew me away! The baked eggs were also good but the highlight was the V6 coffee with Kenyan single origin. Will be back again soon.

Absolutely LOVED my experience at Hawthorn Brew Bar. The interior was gorgeous with lots of coloured flowers and pillows, which really made it seem so warm and inviting. I was soon able to find out that they take just as much pride in the presentation and taste of their dishes which is what really impressed me about this cafe.

What we ordered:

Buttermilk Hot Cakes

These were SO good!!! They were fluffy, soft and swimming in a sweet syrup. The presentation was just WOW! They use such delicious and vibrant fruits to decorate this dish and compliment it perfectly with a chocolate ganache and caramel popcorn. It was the perfect amount of sweet and such a standout item on the menu.

Seasonal Avocado

This dish had delicious avocado, pickled beetroot, feta and a poached egg. I loved how they could take your simple avocado dish & and put such a yummy twist on it. You also get a few slices of bread to eat, which were perfect to soak up all of the delicious yolk that oozed from the poached egg. It was the perfect serving size and so tasty.

We also ordered an Almond latte and an Iced Mocha which we cannot fault.

Thank you so much for my experience!!

Glorious Food Melbs

Good Food Good Mood
We were invited to Hawthorn brew bar today a seriously impressive cafe from its bright and cheery interior all the way to the immaculately presented and beyond delicious food. The experience here is unique, you will enjoy a meal much more special than your usual weekend feed.

Hubs had the mushroom fricassee which was pretty fancy for brunch fare. This theme continued to my seasonal avocado which was far from your typical smashed avo dish. A half avocado with a perfectly poached egg in the centre, dots of creamy goats cheese on the plate, beautifully sweet truss tomatoes and lovely little bursts of flavour from the pickled beetroot. This was a phenomenal dish.

We also had the buttermilk hot cakes which had the perfect combination of flavours, chocolate and orange- a match made in heaven. The chef nailed all of the textures present here; the orange maple that the delightfully fluffy hot cakes were sitting on, that decadent chocolate ganache and the lovely fresh fruit. This was another winner. In fact the only thing I can fault from the entire experience is the chai which was very milky tasting. As for the food it was entirely flawless
Lizzie Eats Melbourne

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: N/A

🥇Lizzie rates overall: I loved the menu and the food was cooked with love - definitely will be coming back!
Brunches Of Melb
Don't be fooled by the unassuming exterior, this new Hawthorn cafe is a quiet foodie haven on busy Glenferrie Road. We had the crab scrambled eggs with truffle oil and salmon roe & the buttermilk hot cakes, both of which were superb. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and full of rich flavour, contrasted by crunchy puff pastry and a crisp rocket salad. The hotcakes were as decadent as they sound, but the addition of exotic dragonfruit and starfruit gave the dish a refreshing edge.
The coffees, an iced latte on almond milk and a flat white, were expertly made with citrus-y specialty beans.
The owner, Sam, was friendly and accomodating and told us all about how the beautiful interior design was inspired by South-East Asia where he owned his last cafe.
Overall, a relaxing and tasty brunch experience. We will definitely be back to try the rest of the winter menu!

After initially visitng this cafe in the very early days, I was so happy to return once again.
There was no questions as to what I was ordering going for the hotcakes and sago pudding which have been taking over my Instagram feed. The hotcakes were the lightest and fluffiest I've had and the sago pudding is the perfect dish to warm you up on the cold winter days. Unfortunately I had to run to a meeting and couldn't sit to finish my sago pudding. However, the cafe was so accommodating and even went that extra mile making me a little takeaway which I enjoyed later on.
(4.5) A fresh new café along Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn. The décor was really crisp and clean, the white tiles and open kitchen were all really nice to look at. The tables on the wall were really well set up with the colourful cushions!

We enjoyed the coffee blend here (Capulus) from a local roaster in the Yarra Valley! It was so smooth and delicious. We also had the glenberry smoothie which was super sweet and tasty!

We ate the crab scrambled, the buttermilk hotcakes and the spiced buttermilk chicken burger in a matcha bun. The crab was served in a puff pastry shell which is super different to what I’ve seen before and was so flakey and delicious! The hotcakes were delicious although could have used with a little more syrup as it was a tiny bit dry! The quenelle of chocolate ganache was absolute perfection!!!!!! The burger was also super yum, the addition of a papaya slaw was genius, was definitely tasting the Thai influences here!

Overall, a cute new café, with lots of delicious food and drink! Will be returning when I’m in the area 🤓

This cafe caught our attention by its interior as we drove by. Sleek and modern, the environment is welcoming and cozy. However, the signage was not clear so we were hesitant to stop by for brunch. With just one word “cafe” printed on its front glass window and the words “Hawthorn Brew bar” on a banner above the store, we wondered if it had just been taken over by another business or not. It was not until we walked closer and saw the entire words “Hawthorn Brew Bar cafe” on the outdoor seating fence that we were sure it was a cafe. Anyway, now that is has just made a Zomato account complete with menus, it’s super clear that there is a breakfast & lunch menu!

We were lucky enough to be the first customers to try the “Pandan Sago Pudding” which was sweet yet savoury. Created by a Thai chef, it held a unique flavour combination and was well-presented. Similarly, the “Seasonal avocado” was delicious thanks to some tasty ingredients such as the truss tomatoes and pickled baby beetroots, however, the pieces of toast (including the crusts) were very hard by the time the dish was served. A little bit of olive oil/ butter spread on the top would have helped.

Drinks-wise, the orange juice was freshly squeezed and tasted great. The turmeric golden latte was a little powdery.

Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience here. Great table service, an inviting and cozy ambience complete with appetising food.

UPDATED 14/12/2019;
We’ve been coming here almost every weekend because it’s become one of our favourite places to go. I’m so glad that the restaurant took my advice on the breads. 😍 If you want to go for the safest and tastiest single dishes, I would suggest the baked eggs or the pancake.
This cafe gets really busy nowadays, especially when everyone seems to be ordering the towers (otherwise known as the deluxe breakfast or lunch). The deluxe breakfast for two is amazing, and very filling for two people. Waiting time can reach between 30-50 mins, so if you have time to spare, this option is good!
The owner is very nice and accommodating. Staff work fast and are friendly.
