Review Orobello - Hawthorn

How can this dessert shop be rated 5/5 - probably fake reviews. Cake is low quality, tiramisu is made with cream cheese and not mascarpone and chocolate cake is chewy. The ice cream still had chunks of gelatin. I’ve been to bad dessert stores but this is worst. Now I understand why a google rated 5/5 dessert store has literally no one in there. Definely will tell people not to waste their time coming here as it’s not worth it.

Had cookies, gelato and the most delicious cheesecake! Not sure why this place is empty, everything is yum, maybe it's cause the place is so huge! Give it a try.

What an amazing find! Yummy crepes, beautiful gelato - we were surprised by how quiet it was considering how amazing the dessert was. Highly recommended!!

Unfortunately ice cream did not taste right and lacked flavour. It was also too thick and did not melt. It is a shame because the place has a beautiful fit-out and atmosphere. Will be back to try the gelato.

I should've read reviews before. I like how the ice cream doesn't melt at all but they have added way too much guar gum that it ruins the texture and flavour. It tastes fake and all the flavours were terrible.
Sorely disappointed.

Large and spacious shop, good service.
A nice variety of gelato that is not exactly on par with most gelato places.

If you want a place to chill, and don't mind too much about food, here's the place for you.

If you looking for good desserts and mind how they taste, not a place for you.

One recommendation to the owner is to perhaps have a menu to enable people to see what's on offer and not on display!

It's a nice dessert shop
The cake is delicate and delicious
Gelato have many types, I like the fruity flavours the most, they taste like real fruits, very delicious.

Found this place on Glenferrie road, the decor is very clean and spacious. It's a pity to find this place not very busy, they offer a wide range of flavours for gelato. I really enjoyed their gelato especially the red guava, I find it a lot less sweet than most other places. Very recommended if you like desert that is not too sweet, worth a try!!

Very friendly service and a very spacious joint to chill with friends. Unfortunately, the food is not that good.

For their gelato, I've tried many different flavours and one thing that I liked was that they were not overly sweet. However, they were not full of flavours either. The cream texture was too rich, so it literally felt like eating very oily frozen cream.

For such a nice locale and floor space, it's a shame that they didn't make their products well.

Unfortunately, I have to agree 100% with the other reviewers. The store is large and spacious (also very empty of paying customers) although the staff are super friendly and accommodating. The products are just not up to par (ice cream, gelato, cheesecakes, etc), and from our tasting plate, there was very little that we enjoyed :(

Felt like driving my parents somewhere nice for dessert in the Eastern suburbs, so i found Orobello on here and could see it was one of the only places that was opened in the area, so we went, I'm glad its open late on a saturday night, thats one of its good points, unfortunate didn't really seem as though it was quite worth their while however, judging by the amount of people in there. I ordered choc crunch ice cream as well as milk chocolate and as a few of the other reviews state, the taste is kinda strange..the texture was thick and gooie which i personally didn't mind, but the 'choc crunch' wasn't even choc, it was just vanilla ice cream with a bit of chocolate sauce and hazelnuts..which IMO is dangerous because it says nothing about nuts at all on there and someone with an allergy could be in danger thinking they are eating chocolate and vanilla ice cream. The coffee was good, and the general feel of the place was good too, its bright, contemporary, well kept and very clean and comfortable. The people were nice however the service for dessert cakes was slowly and clumsy, it took them 10 mins (when it wasn't busy at all) to put a cheesecake on a plate and put icing sugar next to it..and they didn't even take the plastic surrounding off the cheesecake..i mean, thats just lazy..what was even the point of serving it on a plate..
I rate it 3.5 mostly because of the effort i can see they put in to make it a nice groovy clean and comfortable environment and the money that went towards it, but a lot still definitely has to be improved with service, ice cream recipe and range of cakes, as i felt like i was in singapore, not in a cafe with an italian name.

I went there not long after their opening and tried almost all the flavours r of their ice cream and they all tasted strange. I had difficult time deciding which one is the least strange (i felt bad if i just not buy anything after trying so many flavours, but actually i wished i could just not buy any). I ended up with hazelnut flavour. The texture of their ice cream is weird. When they melt, it wouldn't even drip because it was so thick. And there were bits that were gluggy too.

Think of it as your one stop for all things dessert. Ice cream was made with real fruit which a nice change. The crepes were also good and a group of us had a blast.

A huge dessert/gelato cafe with plenty of seating is unfortunately rarely full. We tried a range of desserts (courtesy of a Groupon promotion) and were sadly disappointed by the whole experience. The one thing we could not fault was the polite and friendly service.

We had a dessert platter (wonderfully presented) that included a lemon sorbet, toffee ice-cream concoction (the two of these were moulded and sat in clear containers), other ice-cream products, biscuits and two cake options (chocolate mousse and a mango cheesecake). For drinks, we had iced chocolates.

Firstly, the ice-cream/sorbet/something had quite a strange flavour, where the toffee one actually tasted like a melted down toffee (which was not a good thing). The lemon one was slightly better, but did not compare to real lemon gelato. There were little ice-cream blobs that were okay, and chocolate-covered chocolate ice-cream blocks, that were nice.

We were able to choose the two cake options, and unfortunately the mousse appeared to have been there for a while, as it was dense and thick, and did not resemble a light or delicate mousse. The mango cheesecake also had a strange aftertaste, and did not have the rich flavour one would expect from a cheesecake. The biscuits were not bad, and there were some chocolate ones that were tasty.

Unfortunately, the drinks were not any better. We ordered iced chocolates, and what arrived could only be called powered chocolate that had been dissolved, mixed into a large cup of water and seasoned with a few ice cubes. It was watery and weak, and honestly not very appealing or tasty at all. We did not finish any of the desserts or drinks.

It was a shame that the food was a let-down, as their products looked very nice, and the store is neat and bright. Hopefully others have had a better experience.

Was getting ramen and noticed this new place on the way. Afterwards, decided to pop in and see what the crepes and ice cream were about. Omg, heavenly. The crepes were crunchy and the jam was perfectly balanced. The ice cream was made from real fruits and was unusually, not sweet. Great find, will be back soon.

Thanks to eating at ramen restaurant next door. I get a promotion voucher for one free scoop gelato of Orobello. It was such a perfect timing since it was 40 degree outside and I was craving for something to cool down. When I first went it the first thing that cross my mind how big the place is for a dessert shop. Nice modern interior, bright lighting, and super clean environment. The staffs were friendly and offer me to try the gelato first before I claim my voucher. I went there with my friend, so we picked Macha (green tea) and watermelon. I love the green tea gelato! It's exactly what matcha supposed to taste like. I often eat matcha soft serve and they always tend to put sweetener and that kinda ruin the original flavour of matcha, but this one it seems that they really appreciate the existing flavour that define matcha. Watermelon it's light and sweet. Definitely an enjoyable experience. Look how cute the spoon is! Sign out Steph

Very good
I love it
Gelato ice cake very cute. The chocolate cheese was filled with flavours of chocolate and cheese, and the strawberry tart was packed with fruit and both of them are not very sweet. Thumbs up.
