A secret gem!
Please order the crispy pork set with rice and veggies!
They have the crunchiest and juiciest pork!!
Their portions are okay not too big so it’s enough for one, located near the supermarket!
Food here is delicious. I always order the vegetables with crispy pork or their curry. Would love to try other dishes next time. Menu selections is huge. Service is self serve but you would only come here for the food not their service.
Depending on who is serving, you may get a good service or terrible service. But if you can overlook the service, this outlet serves remarkable Thai street food dishes. We are not Thai, so we are not thrilled with the Yen Ta Fo. Agree with other reviews - the khana moo krob (crispy pork with chinese broccoli) is a winner. We went for the hot level and sure it was, the dish had so much kick, fiery taste.
Best food and best price. I love how they cooked the pad kee mao noodle to perfection especially the extra chilies that was added into in. Unlike other place, they also added thai basil into the noodles. That’s what we called an authentic pad kee mao. Thai fried rice is good too. Overall, husband & I enjoyed our meal.
Ordered through uber eats. Took less than 20mins to arrive. 👍
One of the best Thai takeouts in Melbourne metropolitan area.
Panda 🐼🐼🐼:
All of their “stir fry on rice” dishes are good, my recommendation is the Kangkung Crispy Pork because it is really rare to find kang kung in a dish here.
Crispy pork fried rice (this one is not available in the menu but this is a must-order as well!)
Thai Milk Tea
Papaya Salad
Pad Thai
Affordable price, $8-$12 per dish
Generous portion of food
Free flow of with rice during the summer (!!!)
Canned soft drinks only $1 with a purchase of meal
Pandon’t ❌❌❌
Cash only (Woolworth’s is just right in front of it so it’s really convenient to do cashouts)
No toilets (you might sneak out to a fast-food chain branch nearby 😏)
As for the food.. None because all of the foods are good!
You can choose the level of spiciness from None, Mild, Medium, Hot, Thai Hot; and trust me the Thai Hot is realllllllllyyy insane! As for a spicy lover myself, I’d go for medium because on that level I could still taste the kicks of the chili but enjoying the savouriness of the dish.
Their service has improved a lot since the last time I came here, the place for dining in is a bit meh but well it is meant to be takeout place.
Definitely will come back!
I used to work near here so I Spicy was a lunchtime fav, but I have driven here for dinner once or twice with a friend cause it’s pretty yummy. It’s a wobbly table, order at the counter kinda place but they get some good wok char on their pad se ew and they do a mean pork soup or a deliciously spicy grapow. Yum!!!
I Wow...first time here with my friends for lunch today.Great tasting food friendly staff..we got good deal with free milk tea.. fried fish with green papaya salad very good crispy deep fried pork leg so yummy.I love to come back again soon. :)
Yummy and cheap!! Great to come for lunch and dinner with friends and family. You can enjoy cheaper food with rice and tasty. If you pop in for the first time shouldn’t miss their crispy pork,it’s so nice, and if you keen for spicy You should order Spicy noodle with crispy pork!! It’s the best.
I come here to eat Yen Ta Fo at least once per week. It is a must try in Glenferrie are. There are a lot of places to eat but this one always is my priority. They sell exellent and authentic Thai food. I recommend everyone try Yen Ta Fo fish noodle here. You wont regret!!
Food is always authentic tasting and spot on. Met the boss last night and he's really friendly and into customer service. 👍👍 Two thumbs up! Pad kee mao is my go to all the time here. Also recommend their fried chicken which to me tastes much better than KFC. 👌😁 Do take their spice level seriously. Medium is pretty damn spicy and I can take a good amount of heat so I always go mild and there's always chilli provided if u wanna add on later.
Another gem inside the Glenferrie Centre arcade serving authentic Thai food. We've been regulars for years now. We have tried almost everything on the menu and our favourites are Thai Fried Rice with Crispy Pork, Chinese Broccoli with Crispy Pork, and Deep Fried Barramundi with Apple Salad. Food and service are constantly good. The only downside is there are only a small number of tables. It's a must try if you are around the area.
Came here for lunch once and can't wait to come back again. The food was decently priced and the portions were reasonable. I like how you can adjust the level of spiciness for your tastes when you order. Would love to come here again!
After a 10 year gap decided to pay a visit to ispicy, my old stomping ground. Food is still good and authentic; the green peppercorn sauce was delicious as ever. They have gotten stingier with the meat though as there was way too many bamboo shoots in there. And yes, as pointed out by another reviewer, very spicy (even at medium heat) - but there's the authenticity.
The service isn't what I remember. I know it's cheap and for the price I'm not expecting enthusiasm, but the lady server is downright cold.
Best kana moo krob in Melbourne. The pork can be better - it's usually a bit dry and chewie, not crispy. But they nailed the flavour and the texture of the brocolli, it's always crunchy and juicy! Oh and the deep fried egg! Burnt around the edges with the yolk still runny! Perfection!
Love the mince chicken with eggplant. A small cafe which does not look like much but the food is great. Price is reasonable as well. Will definitely go back for more.

This place does not quite offer a beautifully designed interior or ambience, nor the service was considered very accommodating. However, this place seemed to be very popular, especially among students. This is not surprising, as it is located around university zone, and the food they offer is really yummy. Been coming here for numerous times, and most of the times will order pad thai, crispy pork with garlic sauce, or fried rice. The foods were always pleasing.
If you are looking for delicious food, acceptable price, quick eat and go, this will suits you. However, if you may want to stay longer, have a nice chat with family, friends, or maybe to bring someone on first date, this may not be the one.
Basically im a i-spicy fans, their food are simple but good, stir fry greens with pork chasiu with young green peppercorn is the best other than the pork shank. The taste is totally the same as the one in richmond, so if either resto too crowded then can go to the other one.

C'mon people! This place is not about service but food. It's definitely one of the best cheap-eats in Melbourne. You get to choose your own carbohydrates (I.e. rice/noodles), vegetable, meat and level of spiciness. After you have ordered at the counter, you find your own seats and help yourself to cutlery/water. Came here with a friend for a quick bite. We ordered the Chinese Broccoli with Crispy Pork and Prawn Pad Thai. Have asked for mild spiciness. They both turned out to be very spicy but extremely tasty. Will definitely come back again.
The best chinese broccoli thai crispy pork dish i've had in melbourne. Very flavorful sauce, just the right amount of spicyness. The only thing that's holding it back was the portion. I paid $17 with extra meat and fried eggs. But i can't barely tell the difference.
Hiding away from glenferrie road, I spicy provides consistently good and authentic food with reasonably price, a popular spot for local and always happy to visit :)
The food there was very delicious despite the sauce of crispy pork belly n chinese broccoli was too salty. Especially fried rice was one of the best fried rice i've ever try. However, sadly the customer service was terrible.
Didn't have such a negative experience like the other reviews. For $10 you get standard thai noodles. Not going to be the best meal you will ever have but a good safe lunch.
My favourite place for spicy noodles. The perfect balance of spiciness, heat and flavour. Strongly recommend getting thai hot spicy noodles with crispy pork or chicken. Great value for money, always fill my plate.
Oke so.. reflecting on the restaurant's name, food here can be really really spicy! Well technically you can choose between not spicy, mild, spicy or thai spicy (this one must be deadly 😶). Me and friends regularly come here on Sunday, they open at 12 pm-ish and sometimes customers are just pouring in a minute later. Food is amazing and portion is big. We always go for their spicy noodles, kangkung, and green curry chicken 😊😊. On the downside, service is COLD and not friendly. And lately food has been waay too salty.
I will definitely go back again!!! The food was so tasty and authentic!! It is quick and at a reasonable price. I ordered a Tom Yum soup (entree), it was $8 and had three big prawns in it. The spicy noodle was wonderful, the taste was clean and refreshing, you could taste all the individual flavours. Regardless of the initial appearance of the restaurant and the so-so service, the food is absolutely worth trying!

Great place for cheap and quick take-away. The thai food here is decent quality, but best of all is that it’s cheap. $9 gets you a range of dishes. Pad thai and the red curry are probably my favourites. Only dish I don’t recommend is the Penang Curry, was sweet and weird tasting.
I-Spicy is a tiny Thai hole-in-the-wall establishment in a small shopping complex off Glenferrie Road. Most individual dishes are cheap (between $8-12) and one is able to construct your own meal by choosing the kind of meat or vegetable you want and then deciding how they are to be cooked; as a stir-fry or curry with white rice, or fried noodles or rice. Given its "budget" status, décor is obviously on the plain and rudimentary side and you order and pay at the counter, and fetch your own cutlery and condiments. The standout dish would have to be the spicy fried rice noodles (Pad Kee Mao), perfectly seasoned and expertly cooked with lots of smoky "woks breath". Rice lovers might like to try the delicious crispy roast pork stir-fried with kangkong and rice, though the dish is somewhat on the small side. An excellent cheap eat and one of Melbourne's better Thai restaurant chains (they also have a branch on Victoria Street in Richmond).
The deal was good. Spiciness level perfect! Def will come back for sure! Price was ok! My fav dish is the crispy chicken spicy with kangkoong!
Recent comments on urbanspoon seem to suggest i Spicy’s serving size has decreased... I’m glad to say we didn’t find the dishes small at all. In fact I think we ordered enough for four people rather than three.
iSpicy is proof if ever there need be proof that location is not everything in finding a place to eat. It’s a tiny hole in the wall that sits inside a clotted, musty shopping arcade and looks toward a supermarket. A casual onlooker could be forgiven for passing by and jumping to the conclusion that it’s nothing more than a cheap and nasty takeaway venue. But looks can be deceiving, as the meals at iSpicy are full of flavour, colour, and in keeping with the moniker, spice.
Barramundi with papaya salad – ...deep fried to a crispy batter of skin, served with a mildly hot fish sauce with ample citrus notes. The green papaya spread across the top provides an extra element of tart, juice and bite. As with any deep fried fish, the flesh is a tad on the dehydrated side. And what is that, it is only $22?
Crispy Pork with Red Curry. Amazing and so cheap!!
ILove it! Their desserts are super standout particularly the little pancakes. Yumtastic! As the name says, everything is pretty spicy. We've tried nearly everything on the menu but favourite is the squid. The butterfly chicken presents well but is just a little bland. As restaurant is small it often gets squishy, but there is an upstairs are for larger groups.
Love the crispy pork! Service have to be inproved otherwise all is not bad
I love the crispy skin pork with kangkung on rice! Yumm.
Beautiful food but I'm a bit miffed that I paid an extra $3 to eat in yet I have to get up and get my own water, cutlery, napkins etc. What exactly is the extra money for, cos it's certainly not service.
Never disappoints. Tasty, authentic and really spicy if you ask for it. Thai people eat there all the time, that tells me a lot. Pink soup, pork shank and 5 spice pork stew are favorite. Thai milk tea is superb so give it a go!
Crispy Pork with Green Peppercorn Sauce...delish! I make sure I have it every time I'm here on business.
Another Regular Dissapointed. I completely agree with jenna's review on dec 5th. My girlfriend and I moved in to Hawthorn back in August and have been regular customers of I Spicy in Hawthorn. Normally there was a very nice waitress serving us and everything was always fine and the food was great but we went there today and the usual waitress was not there and replaced by a very rood thai girl. I said my order clearly but my gf's dish came out incorrectly and then when i told her i ordered the crispy chicken kan kung and not normal chicken she rolled her eyes at me and said she asked me if i wanted crispy or not and i DID say crispy but tried to blame me. She was very rood about the whole thing. She obviously does not know the phrase "the customer is always right". My girlfriend and I may not go back after this. It is a shame because the food is still excellent but needs an improvement on the attitude of the waitress who is currently there replacing the nice one who im guessing is on holiday. Anyway Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all! bye.
Spicy as they say it. Good food for a reasonable price..
Had the prawns spring roll for an entree, it tasted good, but a bit small.
Had two main meals plus steamed rice, the total came up to $35.
Definitely recommend to anyone to try it, would go there again if didn't need to drive for 20+ mins to reach there.. *though still might end up eating there if our favourite close by thai restaurant remains closed*
Great authentic Thai food. Not too sweet like a lot of the other Thai restaurants. Their pad Thai is something special and the crispy pork rice is great. Would recommend it for all, but not for those looking for a romantic dinner-you may get distracted by shoppers with trolleys.
Worth the wait!. The pork shank is the BEST! although i must say the wait time is really long..could possibly wait for at least half an hour to an hour before you get served your food. But i think its worth waiting. their soft shell crab, mango salad and fish were just all so good and yummy
Delicious authentic Thai food, everything that should be slow cooked has been. Great prices! Good for a really casual meal!
Still undiscovered by many people. I lived in Hawthorn for a couple of years and noticed iSpicy was always filled with lots of Thai students, but I didn't try it until a couple of months back, which makes me feel silly.
I now go there at least twice a week. The food is delicious - packed with herbs and chilli, and lots of meat in each serve. I never have to wait long for the food and it's such good value for money at $10-12 for many main dishes.
This isn't somewhere for a romantic date given its location, premises and decor, but it's cheap, cheerful and genuinely great Thai food.
This place really punches above it's weight. The store hardly looks like anything being next to safeway in a dingy looking arcade but the food is the best Thai I've had outside Thailand. A real secret gem. Must try. The deep fried pork knuckle is awesome.
Daggy Location but Great Food. I usually get take-away fom here, rather than eat in because it's in the shopping centre, opposite the trolley bays and grog shop. The crisp chicken with broccolii is delicious. I like chilli, but asked for mild/little chilli, but it was by my standards fairly hot, so if you don't like spicy stuff, order it with no chilli. The menu has interesting things on it and tastes authentic.
The food here is daaaaaamn tasty! The first restaurant I tried in Melbourne 5 years ago, and hundreds of restaurants later I think it's my favourite. Don't bring a first date here though, it's very low key and the food can be insanely spicy.
Simple and spicy. Just love the flavour of the crispy pork with thai broccoli..will be back soon
Fantastic Thai food!. Don't be put off by the rather tacky decor, the food is fantastic! highly recommend the pork knuckle and the crispy pork with kangkung or thai brocoli on rice. Very tasty. Be sure to mention how spicy you want your dish as they are not afraid to add chilies to their dishes! hot means VERY hot.
Unassuming. Looks dodgy on the surface but food is all good. Always filled with Asian students so it must be ok, right?
Cheap and good. Great place for some seriously good and cheap thai food. This place is packed with students bustling in and out grabbing their takeaway.
Had the chicken tom yum and a pork belly brocolli dish, both were really good!
Fantastic. Some of the best thai food out there. Try the crispy pork, thai broccoli. Just be careful with the spices, when they say hot, they mean hot.
Delicious and Authentic. Had the Chicken Pad Thai here and it was one of the mist delightful experiences I've had! Truly authentic style, it had all the characteristics of a traditional home-made meal.
Good Thai food at a very affordable price, I work nearby and this is my go-to lunch takeaway place when I need some good and cheap Asian food. Might need to wait a bit sometimes, and the chilli is really spicy even at mild level. Spicy food lover will enjoy this.
This is one of my favourite Thai restaurants in Melbourne. The taste is great especially the price is superbly right.
My girlfriends and I always meet up here for delicious Thai food after work. It doesn't really matter where we work, let just meet here.
Our favourite dishes are Softshell Crab, Papaya Salad, Stir Fry Morning Glory, Pork Shank, Deep Fried Fish with Apple Salad or with Three Flavour Sauce. For the three flavour they also serve it with fish fillets. Their fish cakes are good too. We always order to share.
They used to have Yum Mama (instance noodles salad), but they took this off the menu and I was so devastated. Not many Thai restaurant would offer this dish.
Their staffs are always very friendly and always serve with big smile on their face.
Please note that this place really serve very spicy dishes, so it is best start with medium or mild and you can add on next time.
Good valued tasty meals. Thumbs Up !
Best in town for sure. I loved the food every time
All time fave (crispy pork fried rice and chinese broccoli with crispy pork spicy) yummm
Love their crispy pork with garlic sauce.. great taste great price great portion..
