Went with a large group on Easter long weekend and the service and food was phenomenal! Every request was catered to. Special mention goes to the chicken wings - delicious, crispy and lots to share :) Thank you for a wonderful lunch!
Enjoyed the delicious 7 course mezze option for $55 per person. Absolutely faultless! The service was professional, friendly and efficient and the food was just delicious (every single course!). Highlights, if I had to choose were the porterhouse steak, chicken wings and eggplants chips! The ambience was cool and classy with unique wallpaper and mirrors and quite dark that adds the romantic vibe at night. My partner and I love Healesville so am glad to say we will definitely be back again and will be recommending it to our friends to check out too.
This is an amazing hidden gem. John is the most accommodating owner you can imagine. No request was too much.
We had the fried calamari which were awesome. And the wagu burger... TO DIE FOR!! Definitely the best burger we have ever had. Moist pattie, full of flavour.
Would go to Herd anytime again. And we certainly will!
Absolutely great experience! Friendly bar and service staff. Quick service. Amazing food. Highly recommended the eggplant chips and Turkish delight donuts!!
This place was recommended by one of the workers at a respected winery. We ordered quite a few dishes, all of them was full of flavours! This is such a small appetiser but oysters (I’m a huge oyster fan)!!! Never had it with seaweed but it actually increases the “ocean” flavore!! Fried eggplant was so crispy and yum, I started to make this at home too. We also had steaks and rib. Steaks were so juicy, I even finished the sauce. Rib was good too but very small portion. I would definitely recommend this place though if anyone is going to yarra valley.
Came up from Melb for the weekend, came here for lunch and everything was just awesome. Could not have picked a better way to kick off the weekend. Would drive back up just to go there again - easily. Food was fantastic, alcohol selection has everything you need and its all local. Went there just after the lunch rush so it was quiet too.
We were a little apprehensive about this one after reading the reviews but this little hidden Healesville secret is a must!!! The food was just perfect😍 we tried a few cuts of beef as well as the chicken and each piece was cooked to perfection. The little turkish delight donuts are also a must too! I will be back!

Herd Bar wasn't originally on our list when we were exploring the Yarra Valley. However, after a few locals, we met along the way recommended we have dinner there, we quickly changed course and decided to try it out. Afterall, small plates are generally my favorite way to dine - hello taste testing! We didn't have a reservation, but luckily we were grabbing dinner early, and it was a weekday. So we were created promptly and sat near the wine cellar quickly. The dark lighting made for a more intimate setting, but at the same time, the pillows scattered along the seating areas made it feel casual. With a great selection of beer and wine, we soon had some delicious beverages to kick off the evening.
For dinner, we ordered the eggplant fries, roasted cauliflower, fried calamari, grilled chicken with tzatziki sauce, & Turkish delight doughnuts for dessert. The eggplant fries were crisp & surprisingly very flavorful, especially with the aioli sauce for dipping! I couldn't get over how incredible the cauliflower was; I could have eaten an entire plate of just that! From the capers to the yogurt sauce, it was a well constructed little dish! The calamari was crispy, but perhaps slightly overcooked. The chicken was nice and juicy, packed with flavor and paired so well with that tzatziki sauce - classic! Now the best part, besides the cauliflower, was the dessert. Those little Turkish delight jam-filled balls of dough were SO tasty! Served warm with buttermilk ice cream, I couldn't have been happier and fulfilled!
If I had to choose between Herd and some of the other more well-known spots to eat in Healesville, I would definitely come here! Friendly staff, quick service, great atmosphere, and delicious food!
The food is great here! Friendly staff and great service. Highly recommend the steak and the hand cut chips were divine, as were the eggplant chips. Will be back.

The Creative couple were in town and we decided to take them to Herd Bar & Cafe for lunch. We made a booking on a Sunday but it wasn’t really busy at all so we didn’t really need to make a booking. Nonetheless, we went inside and the staff were super duper friendly and the decor was just suave and very intimate. We were shown to our table and my gosh the options looked oh so delish.
Yep has nice food. Is open until a decent time which is cool and the interior is set up so you kind of have your own booth which is great for a group of noisy friends!
Didnt love the staff they were overly friendly for my liking but i suppose i wpuld rather that than no service at all!
Wont head back ASAP but would definitely go back sometime!
Great find in Healesville. Service was spot on and they really know their local area wines. The wagu burger was probably the best I've ever had and that's saying a lot. Lamb sis' was also a great dish and a bit different. A bit out of the way if you aren't looking for it. We nearly went to the one on the main st.
My partner and I visited Healesville for a night's stay and we had dinner at Herd. Amazing food - every bite was a thoroughly delicious experience. We ordered the kingfish and squid for entrees and shared the lamb kofta for mains. The chocolate souffle with salted caramel was a standout. The service was friendly and attentive. Nothing to fault at all. A must to visit.
We had a relaxing later afternoon lunch after our weekend away from Melbourne. The place was really cozy with different seats to enjoy your meal (couch, chairs, bar, "wine room")
I was positively surprised about the enthusiasm and the knowledge of the staff, which was attentive; felt a bit too much at times as we were the only crazy ones having lunch at 4pm but better to have too much attention than not enough I guess.
Food was superb with great combinations of flavors transporting you to a middle east/Mediterranean gastronomic experience. Staff recommendations in terms of amounts to have were also accurate. Music was a bit inconsistent with long silences at times but again, an empty place is really quiet and my OCD is more noticeable. Overall a fantastic place, and we recommended!
We had to eat the in the bar area as it was booked out. We had the Mezze option and every course was delicious, especially the squid. The pinot delicious and the cocktail. Staff very friendly. Did get very busy later in the bar area. Will be back though. Next time we will be sure to make a booking.
Came here today with my inlaws whilst visiting Healesville from Perth. What a little gem. The decor is so on trend, the service was brilliant, our server (which i think might be the owner) was very informative about the menu and the drinks list, made it very easy to make our menu decisions.
We all chose the lunch special wagyu beef burger, which was delicious! It had a lovely middle eastern taste to it, with what I think may have been cinnamon added to the patty mixture, yum! Very moist and flavourful. The side of french fries were delicious, crispy and salty, and the aioli was amazing. I ordered the elderflower with tonic and soda. Was very tart but very refreshing!
Would definitely recommend Herd if you're in the Healesville area.
This place is very very cool. The staff are super friendly and attentive. Great food... steak was fantastic and the Turkish delight doughnuts were phenomenal. Everyone loved it.

Absolutely love this place! The great decor, food and service is always something I look forward to when coming to Herd. Whether its in a group and tapas style food or a date night. Quite casual but fancy pants fit in well too ;) a must try for anyone traveling to Healsville or living in Melbourne
Lovely staff and very attentive.
Good range of food and tapas to graze on with a wide selection of drinks.
Great addition to the Main Street of Healesville.
We went again at night to enjoy the live music and it was a great vibe and atmosphere.
Service was absolutely amazing, could not fault a thing - everyone was smiling and so friendly. Food was delicious and full of flavour.. already craving the beef brisket! Will definitely be back soon
We are locals and eat at Herd regularly because it is simply the most exciting and imaginative place for miles around. That is high praise because we have some great restaurants up here. John the owner is on the floor most nights and he works hard to make the experience exceptional with great advice on wines. You can choose fantastic middle eastern inspired tapas type share plates or wonderful mains that are prepared with flair and a real commitment to best produce cooked by a wonderfully talented chef who has worked at some of the top restaurants around.
My partner and I went on a nice Sunday drive and stopped in Healesvile for a late lunch. We didn't have to look very far before a staff member saw us looking outside and welcomed us in. The two women who were working (didn't catch their names) were very friendly. Service was very quick and the food was delicious. My partner had the Wagyu burger, which was only $15 because of a lunch special, and loved it. I enjoyed the eggplant chips and cured king ora salmon, which were both incredible. We were both too full to try the desserts but we will be back!
Had dinner and had originally came here just for desserts. Eggplant chips and rose meringue with licorice ice cream was awesome! Can't comment on the mains though
This place was a great suprise in our trip to Healesville. Met with a delightful owner and wonderful atmosphere. The food was so good. Recommend the chicken sis, mushrooms and eggplant chips.
What a hidden gem! This is a joint you would find in a hidden alley in Melbourne CBD, maybe even better! The selection of drinks is Terrific. The espresso martini's were some of the best I have had too. Let's not forget to mention the food.... Great tapas style meals. Must visit for anyone heading to Healesville to spend an evening.
Visited here one Saturday evening.
The decor is modern & moody.
The food is ideally share plate which I love. We ordered 6-7 dishes, shared & discussed each dish.
Different seating options too (lounge or table/chairs).
A large group was in and small round tables had been pushed together - not ideal.
I highly recommend Herd & plan to return for my birthday dinner.
Do yourself a favour & book a table.
Was looking around the Healesville area for something a little different and found Herd hiding just off Maroondah Highway, we walked in without a booking and fell in love with the menu, by no means is it a cheap place (quite expensive) but the food was Magnificient, the Coal Aged Beef was to die for, the Chorizo with xe vinegar was great and the Stuffed mushroom were so delicious and accompanied by some Local wines s from the Yarra Valley.
The Owners (names slip me) were Serving us and they were a pleasure to talk to, I would definitely come again for a special meal in the Yarra Valley.
You have to come here... The food is yummy yummy... Delicious tapas. We had 5 tapas for 2 people and we felt it was delicious and enough for us... Will come back soon.
Dined here for lunch 3 weeks ago. Restaurant has a great ambience with professional service.
Food is well executed and good value.
Drinks list - can do better at the cheaper end - P and J Pinot Noir disappointing value, considering this restaurant's proximity to many wineries.
Healesville is fast becoming the place to set up a new trendsetting cafe restaurant or bar. Herd i'd say is a step above the rest, why?
...there are all the things that make a place great, the right mix of service, food (and where you source it from) and decor. Herd has all of these in a subtle abundance. While this place has a tucked away underground uber-cool bar vibe, you are in no way excluded or made to feel intrusive if you just want a meal or non alcoholic drink.
My first visit to Herd, was a stumble upon situation, my love of architecture drew me into the place, the sight of all that marvellous vertical timber cladding sucked me in like a moth to a light. The interior is a fantastic mix of formed concrete, murals and artwork that is a little quirky if you take notice. There are some clever tricks with columns and mirrors, you even seem to have little nooks you can sit in and almost feel like its your own space.
The food, while small in portion is quality, well put together and most importantly tasty, probably ideal size if your drinking too. On our last visit between us we tasted a number of dish from meat to vegetarian and there wasn't a grumble in place rather an exploration of delightful bites, i can't believe how full of flavour the duck kebab was!
Not to forget they serve Proud Mary coffee and they do it well.
The staff are more than accommodating with your dietary requests and generous with their patience if you happen to visit with some more difficult members to your party. I've even had an iced coffee made for me when not even on the menu, thats service with a smile too. There are a few places i could call out in the same area that could learn a thing or two from Herd.
Congratulations to the owners for putting together the whole package, it's very rare to get all elements right.
Loved our shared meal here of 6 tasting dishes in a cosy corner. We opted to pander to The Vegetarian, and enjoyed a fantastic variety of 6 dishes, which was more than sufficient, and I'm giving a special shout-out to the donuts. Un. Real. Salted caramel espresso martinis were a perfect chaser.
Excellent share plates of restaurant quality food and a bloody good wine selection. We are locals and have visited three times. On the last occasion we took some Melbourne foodie visitors and they were VERY impressed. Make sure you visit soon.
Our third visit to Herd. First time we went on our own. Next time 2 times we went with others and they loved it as much as us. Delicious mezze menu just swapped over to Autumn. Kept some of the favourites, rockling in chickpea batter and tahini sauce, chicken shish plus new ones. Every morsel a delight. Great decor and friendly attentive staff.
This restaurant/bar feels like it could be a trendy inner city venue but it still has details that are specific to the region. Food, drinks, decor and service all excellent. The dishes are well balanced and crowd pleasers. Every single dish got people excited :)
Omg, so so good. Every taste was wonderful and I washed it down with one of the best local gins in the world, four pillars. The beef, chicken and duck were all crazy good. The ambiance was melbourne city quality amazing.
We decided to have lunch here today well Herd thank you.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Ordered a few dishes off the menus which arrived quite quickly very tasty, beers and wine were great
Tad full but we tried the salted caramel chocolate tart sticky not too sweet and celebebrus lenjoyable day thank you herd
Friendly, helpful staff. Food is delicious.
The best and smokiest babaganoush ever.
