If you love south east asian or specifically Malaysian cuisine, this place is OG. Love the whole menu fare. If you’re not sure what’s good to try, ask for a recommendation. You won’t be disappointed.
This restraunt is a favourite of my aunt's she has been coming here for 20 odd years.
We enjoyed a great feast. We started with the roasted pork, whole fish, tofu, Asian greens which were all delish. We also had the noodles but I felt that they were a little too oily. But the deserts were all amazing from the wagon pudding, fried ice cream, banana fritter and the durian fritter too.
Make sure you book as it is tiny restraunt.
What a gem! We went for the first time on a Saturday night. Even though it was completely packed and we hadn't made a booking, the staff were very friendly while we waited for a table. Food came out quite quick. Very pleased to find a place that has a few meat-substitute dishes too, we got a vegetarian-pork dish, veggie fried rice, vegetarian laksa (huge and delicious) and my new favourite veggie spring rolls. This will be our go-to in the neighbourhood for sure... will book next time though!
Had a wonderful meal, with friendly service and then to top it off a Sago Pudding. Simply cannot find anywhere else in Melbourne to have a traditional sago pudding!!!
Have been coming here for 25 years. It has changed once, it started next door in that cramped space that still exists to this day. The food is to die for, it is just amazing. Bill and Jenny have been the consummate hosts over this time. Can also highly recommend if you’re coeliac.

Jade kingdom is a household name among Malaysians in Melbourne. Everyone’s been telling me to try the hokkien mee so when I ended up on this side of town, I MUST come here!
First up, make sure you make reservations, especially on weekends. As there aren’t many tables, spots are quite limited. As expected, the hokkien mee really delivered! There was a bit of everything in this ugly but delicious dish - bits of pork fat, prawns and large pork meat slices. The only element missing was the “wok hei” (or breath of the wok, which is a common element among Asian dishes) but that didn’t stop me from finishing every last bit of this dish. The fried rice included a bit of Sambal chilli which made things more enjoyable.
The sizzling tofu dish ($26) was quite an experience to order. There were generous amounts of tofu and mince pork. The sauce was also quite spot on, although they added a bit more salt than usual. My only other minor gripe is with the price of their ala carte dishes. But would I come here again to have the hokkien mee? Hell yes!

This small and cozy eatery is home to amazing Malaysian food. No fancy decor just amazing food. We ordered the hokkien mee, salt and pepper ribs, assam fish, beancurd on a hot stone plate, eggplant and they were all really good.
Cant fauly any of the dishes here as they were very authentic. Be sure to call and book as they do get quite busy
I've often driven past and wondered at the odd collection of restaurants on Waiora Rd - seems strange, in the middle of nowhere... don't need to wonder any more - Jade Kingdom is awesome! We arrived for lunch open on Saturday and within 15 mins it was packed.Standout dish was Crispy chicken - I reckon the best I've had in au (husband says not the crispiest but best skin flavour and juicy)Prices may seem high compared to Preston but the servings are very generous, so leftovers for dinner woohoo :)Only thing I'd like is some chili oil/condiments and a napkin box on the table.
Jade Kingdom has become my family’s fave local restaurant to have dinner, been here at least 5-6 times in the last few months. This place is usually always packed so I’d recommend making a booking.
The food here is really good and it just doesn’t seem like your average asian restaurant with the interesting types of food they have on the menu.
The chicken yam pot and twice cooked pork belly is bloody amazing and we get it every single time. Every time we try a few different things on the menu and so far nothing has been disappointing. Would defs recommend.
Jade Kingdom has been around for decades and it continues to serve excellent and consistent food.
Parking can be a bit of a nightmare during peak times but a bit of a walk before and after a feast at this joint is not a bad thing.
Our regulars include Thai chicken, Baba fish and Sambal eggplant. They also have the best yam ring in town.
Always delicious, always great portions and (almost) always good service.
Lovely Malaysian Chinese restaurant with delicious dishes. Must try the yam bowl and the sizzling Japanese tofu! The chicken ribs tasted great too. This place is known to have amazing Malaysian food. Only downside is it can be very busy and packed on weekends, but if you don't mind that then the food is very much worth it. Make sure to make a reservation before you come!
Will come back for:
+ Chilli Mussels
+ Fish Head Noodle Soup
+ Hokkien Noodles
This place has not changed for more then 10 years. The food taste authentic, sticking to good ingredients that are treated in a proven way. I love the chilli mussels drenched in sambal, using fresh New Zealand green mussels. Delicious. Fish Head noodle was packed with pieces of fried fish head, whilst not much meat, packs great flavours. The Hokkien Noodle reminds me of one’s I get from home. Sticky, smoky, saucy and tossed through with fried pig fats (not healthy but delicious!). The space is small, and this place is always packed with locals. So, don’t come here expecting quick service, but if you are searching for Malaysian soul food, you can’t go wrong here.
Chicken curry laksa a must, this is our go to laksa place even though it's a good 30 min drive away! Eat there, service isn't the best but the food is worth it.
Always crowded! Love the place for the quick service. The vegetarian laska tasted good and we tried the Hakka youg tofu which was really so soft and fresh fried tofu. The wonton and tom yum soup were hot and cozy for the cold night dinner
The best Chinese Malay food outside of Malaysia. Classic flavour, every dish I’ve tried has been perfect without flaw. Even have a great range of vegan mock meats to satisfy all flavours!
Can’t express how good this food is!!
I’ve moved to the other side of town now and can’t find a Beef Rendang or Hokken Mee noodle to come close to Jade Kingdom. I don’t know if there’s is amazing or if the others are all just average. I look forward to coming back.
We have been there a million times! Never disappointed even once. The food is excellent however the service could be improved. I love their Tofu dishes every one of them.
Definitely a go-to place when I'm feeling homesick and craving some authentic malaysian hawker food. It's a hidden gem for good asian food in the north
So basically each dish was quite good quality but the major turn down was that they gave us dirty take away boxes??? I mean for the expensive food that we’re paying, you could at least provide clean plastic take away boxes. The boxes that we were given had fingerprint smudged and even tiny food scraps that were quite visible. When we asked the waitress to change it saying that it was 按章, she said oh, okay I will. But when she returned again with another one yet again, it was dirty!! Evidently, they reuse their food takeaway boxes used in the kitchen, for customer takeaways...
Food here is great, especially if you feel nostalgic and want some Chinese food. This place is family friendly but it gets very crowded at peak hours. The service is usually fast and I would definitely come back here.
Very good food but would definitely recommend to share a few dishes with others. This restaurant is definitely best visited with friends/ family. My personal favourite thing on the menu is the crispy noodles. Loved it! Would highly recommend.
Good quality food - nothing super standout, but reasonable ingredients, well-prepared. Beware of the super sly tactics to upsell you on tea and condiments that appear to be complimentary, but are tallied on your bill - not that you'd know, as they don't show you the bill in english. They seem to save power on heating/cooling too and it's never comfortable inside.
Small restaurant and always busy so be sure to make a booking. Dishes are authentic but can be ok the oily side. The sizzling beef dish we ordered was on the saltier side and the least favourite dish of the night. Other dishes we ordered were the cereal prawn, chicken ribs, kang Kong.
Always a good reason to pop in here for a quick meal. Good prices and authentic tastes. Love their vegetarian laksa and fried Char always Teow.... with yummy minced chilli paste on the side. Thoroughly recommend
So this is my local Asian go to place with the most delicious food in the area. Today I experienced really great customer service when I arrived and the dish I wanted wasn't available (I had called ahead to book) so the front of house ordered something for me super quick so that I didn't have to wait and I was able to go within 10 mins of arrival. I will definitely be back ☺️
Delicious Malaysian food, especially the Wat Tan Hor, Hokkien Noodle, sizzling Japanese tofu, Ying Yong Wat Tan Hor and Yam Bowl. We enjoyed our chat with Bill. We were given extra sambal and green chilli and when my friend asked for extra Laksa soup for our Laksa Yong Tau Fu, Bill brought us more! Thank You. We will be back again for more!
Recommended by a friend to dine in here. I would say it's pretty authentic Malaysian food. Had the bak kut teh thats good but too much innards in it (as Im not really a fan of it)! Would be good for those who enjoy innards
I enjoyed the okra. Would love to try different dishes next time
The place is quite packed and its not a big space restaurant.
Service was quick and efficient
Recommended by some friends we decided to come here for a girls catchup! Tucked just near latrobe this little gem serve a range of chinese mixed Malaysian dishes from stirfrys to laska to different rice dishes. The venue itself is like any other typical asian restaurant, nothing fancy. Service was ok. Restaurant got quite busy after 7pm on wknds.
We tried a variety of dishes and there were pros and cons for each dishes. I thoroughly enjoyed the lemon chicken which was extra tasty with the rind cooked in it and the chicken batter was light. The chicken ribs had a good bite and heaps of sauce. The roti with the peanut sauce had so much flavour. The stirfy noodles was soft and had heaps of meat and veggies - just like how my mum made it! The entree soup was ok but it was literally a small bowl for one. Wasnt too fond on the desserts - i found it way too sweet with all the syrup. Heaps of icecream on each dessert options though.
Overall a very good meal with hood company! Price reasonable. Will have to come back and try some of the other dishes.
Had the prawn mee here. Really good. Feels like they made the soup from scratch, instead of premade packs as some restaurants do. Quick service, no frills dining here but they produce consistently good Malaysian food.
October 2019 update - had some desserts this round as well. Love their Ice Kacang.
We've never had a bad meal here. Taste is king and that is what we get with nearly all the items on the menu and off menu!
For authentic Malaysian hawker food such as Hokkien Mien and Wat Dan Yin Yong, no other place can match their wok skills. They are the highlights for our family.
Dinner dishes such as Cherry Ribs, Phat Put with Spicy Chicken, Sambal Mussels, Nyonya Fish etc are all delicious and at great value.
Portion sizes are generous even when taking away.
The dining area is not spacious. It is always cramped and service can be improved but when you come here, it is the tastiness of the food that makes you leave feeling satisfied and forgiving of their negatives.
One of the best Malaysian restaurants in Melbourne ! Everything from lunch to dinner is great! Always busy even on weekdays. Tastes just like authentic Malaysian food. Highly recommend One.hungry.girl10
one of the other popular in Local Heidelberg is Jade kingdom.. I have been to Jade Kingdom for over 15 years. Great Malaysian hawkers food. Highly recommend trying them!
Yum! I like to try and order something I can't cook at home so when I visit Jade Kingdom I ordered the Crispy Duck. When I visit again (which I will) I will order the duck again, it was a great dish.
This is the usual stop (and my final fix) of curry laksa before heading back to HK (the global centre of food but devoid of authentic Malaysian and Singaporean fare). I like Jade Kingdom's laksa as well as their Char Kwan Teow, but their other offerings are so-so. Pictured is the Curry Laksa with Yong Tau Foo.
Where is Jenny? Food still great, but service appalling. Dishes served very quickly without bowls or utensils, and food cooled while we waited for them. Never had to ask when Jenny was running the place.
Tofu reminds me of Malaysia. It was absolutely delicious, there was fried egg down the bottom, silky smooth jap tofu deep fried and mince meat with prawn. Perfect! Roast chicken was a little oily but otherwise quite tasty. Can't wait to go back and try the noodles to see if it's authentic!
Went to dinner with a group of 10. We had a great night. The food was so fresh and plentiful. Quick service and very friendly staff. Very busy restaurant so recommend booking. The best was the price of $30 per head and we were full from 8 dishes and dessert. Will definitely go back
Another Malaysian chinese food that we found @heidelberg, we ordered their assam fish head, stir fried morning glory, yam chicken, kamhiong chicken ribs, tom yum rice vermicelli and horfun. The horfun was standard, morning glory was good but a bit bland, tom yum vermicelli was good, assam fish head was dissapointing as theres not meat on the head, and it was basically cost$28 only to suck the bones, the kamhiong chicken ribs and yam chicken were the best one, we ended up ordered another portion of the yam without the filling coz we love it so much, and the kamhiong ribs also so tender and the herb and spices absorb to the chicken and all the aromatics really compliment the taste itself. Service was good and We will definitely go back to try the other dishes.
We with friends enjoyed a good dinner in Jade.. We shared Yam basket, Wat tan hor, cherry pork ribs, kang Kong fried with sambal and Singapore fried noodle. Yummy food with reasonable price. Would loved to go back again to try their curry chicken, Nyonya fish and fish head noodle..
As a takeaway restaurant it ticks all the boxes. Can't speak for dining in, but it's really more the type of food to enjoy while watching a movie at home.
The coconut prawn special dish is sublime.
It's not too fancy, but it is very good.
Great service been coming here since I was a little child. Always very yummy food and Bill the owner is always warm and lovely. Very packed on weekends so book in advance !!
Really delicious food. Have been there twice so far. Tried Indian me goreng noodles, Chicken curry rice and me goreng rice. Good amount of quantity. Cooked fresh every time. The staff is quite friendly. Would be back again. Definitely!!
Most authentic Malaysian cuisine I've found in Melbourne. There's nothing quite like this place with it's unassuming façade. Sadly I live in the south and anyone in this town knows how hard it is to get from the south to the north. Bill has been running the show for many years and keeps it real but he appears to never have believed in expanding so it's a good idea to book. Large servings, hugely flavorsome dishes with quality spices but small size means it's not a place to sit around for intimate chats.
I simply dont like the fact they charge for the tea served, although just $0.50 per person, but the tea is tasteless, worst than those free of charge tea. I don't mind to pay $1 if they're serving good tea. If you dont know about this, you got charged without knowing or saying no.
The curry fish head noodle taste good, very generous fish portion, i think this is the only place i will come here to eat this dish.
The fried kuay teow, you can taste the "wok" fry, they even used the "pork fat/lard" to fry, so will be tastier, but i find it a little salty on their dishes.
Also tried their popular "hokkien" noodle, taste good, but quite oily.
Sometimes quite crowded and hard to find parking, go on the right time and avoid peak hour like 12-1pm, 6-7pm.
Need a Quick fix on Malaysian food... This place definately can do the job.. nice food.. very near to the authentic local taste...Reasonable price. .. Friendly service..
I have been to Jade Kingdom for over 15 years. Great Malaysian hawkers food, the hokkien noodle and Hor Fun is probably the best you can find in Victoria. Highly recommend trying them!
Probably one of the best hokkien noodles and wat tan ho in town. The 2 dishes were full of "wok hei" and done really well. I didn't try the indian mee goreng which my friend ordered. The soup for the fish head noodles were also tasty and sour enough to our liking but the fish wasn't as fresh as we thought it should be. Nevertheless, the wat tan hor and hokkien mee really made us want to come back for more.
Undoubtedly the BEST Malaysian cuisine in Melbourne! The Fish Head Noodles even cooked better than those in Malaysia!
Hokkien noodles and Hor Fun also another must have knock out dish.
Keep up the good work!
This restaurant serve great food and provide homely service. the food is fresh and quick. It is such a gem to find. Menu has a variety that you would expected but all the customers seem to be regulars and know exactly what to order. will be back for sure
This is the place that locals keep returning to. Try any of the house specials. Our favourites include the spicy salt and pepper calamari, crispy duck, sambal spinach, short soup, curry laksa supreme... Five stars because we've been eating here more than anywhere else for a decade. Really reliable, tasty, nutritious and inexpensive eats.

The curry laksa here is easily the best I have ever had! Perfect amount of heat, tangy and sweet. I come here every Monday on lunch break at uni so so good!
Best hokkien mee in Melbourne! Ask for sambal sauce as well! Other dishes are quite alright can be a bit too salty sometimes, but I usually come here for the hokkien mee.
01-AUG-15 : I've been coming here for years and happy to see that the standards are being maintained. Today I had their special - Assam Laksa. I really enjoyed it and probably the best I've had in Australia commercially. It was so yummy that I would have licked the bowl clean if I could.
Yummy authentic food and great menu selection. Don't expect much on service , just enjoy the food 😉We order the Hokkien mee and stir fry hor fun. Both taste yummy . Lobak isn't great but very delicious Tom yum soup
Great food, quick service and friendly staff. Loved every bite! Pork belly was delicious and so too was the beef rendang. Will definitely be going back !
This is definitely on the shortlist for my last meal. Growing up, Singapore noodles from Jade Kingdom in Heidelberg Heights was my all-time favourite take-away. Whenever I’ve lived overseas it’s been one of the things I miss about home. Singapore noodles from anywhere else seldom compare. The closest I’ve come is the Bee Hoon at Cafe Asean in West Village, NYC. A delicious dish in its own right, I suppose it lacks the sentimental attachment I hold for Jade KIngdom. There is no doubt it contains at least a day of my recommended calorie intake, but once in a blue moon with a glass of shiraz, it’s heaven. I’ll go to the gym “tomorrow”.
I’ve developed a new liking for Coconut Juice at Asian restaurants.. Sure we don’t get the fresh coconuts.. but this is the closest I have to the real thing and I am not complaining!
