From never trying Kerala food to frequenting this restaurant at least once a fortnight, this place has been a genuine find! The food tastes similar to what would be offered at homes and if you know the right stuff to order you’ll never leave disappointed (highly recommend the beef fry and pepper lamb).
In terms of service, my friend and I were checking scores on our phone during the Cricket World Cup and the staff noticed that and they were nice enough to move us to a different table near the TV and play the games for us! Need I say more?
Best Kerala Food in Melbourne, service is good too. We all enjoy the food .
A good dinner place and probably the only kerela restaurant who serve fish rice and spam chicken stew.
Great hospitality, very clean, good decor and tasty food. The place is open till 10pm and serves authentic kerala meals. The buffet is $17 and has a wide spread. It is a must try.
Food is fresh cooked, beer is chilled, cutlery is clean....
A little towards the expensive side, but that's a price to monopoly in the city.
Authentic, Tasty and Plentiful
We were lucky to have selected this place on a Tuesday evening, surprised to see all Kerala food varieties. I loved everything from idiyappam to parathas, especially the fully cooked and flavorful goat. The sambhar and idly were also tasty and so were egg curry and chicken. Will visit again for their Sunday brunch buffet soon. Highly recommended if your taste buds like South Indian delicacies.
Had some lip smacking Kerala food here with my husband. We ordered kuttanad fish curry, avial, plain rice and Kerala paratha. Portion size was great for two people as well as decently prized. Sure to go again!
This is South Indian food at its best. Superb fish Curries in particular. Staff could be more personal but jusy look past that and enjoy the food. This is some of the best prepared indian food in Melbourne with a focus on cuisine from Kerala. You wont find this a anywhere else in Melbourne and quality is brilliant.
Have been there a few times. Food tastes good. Quantity is also reasonable. If you go there, I'd recommend the biryani and palak dosa. I'll definitely visit this place again
Visited this place in the evening (around 7.30p.m.). On entering this place, you get a South Indian vibe. The place was not too busy, but they looked understaffed. We had to wait for 10 mins to get the menu.
Ordered Drums of Heaven, Masala Fried Fish, Kerala Egg Curry, Beef Chilly fry and Kerala Parathas. The drums of heaven were a disappointment (my rating 1/5) as the pieces were really small for chicken drumsticks. The rest of the food was 5/5. I would visit the place again. It's definitely a bang for your buck.
Tried the Sunday brunch with friends, the menu was extensive and the food was really good.
Proper Kerala cuisine and must try. Loved the egg roast especially

Have come here a few times. Food is ok but there is better Indian food all around this area. Decor is a little confusion and I find the purple wall quite dizzying. Close to Austin and mercy hospitals which is good for families wanting something.other than hospital food.
One of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to.
The food is made fresh to order, full of spice and flavour.
The atmosphere is a tad odd but if your not to fussed about that sort of thing, you are sure to have a lovely time and a full belly.
The owner was lovely to deal with and would give this place 4 stars.
We went on a Saturday night and didn't have a booking. The restaurant was quite busy but has a calm ambiance and we were welcomed to a free table very warmly. Our drinks and meals arrived promptly and the food was delicious in good serving sizes. Subtle flavours and textures abound. It was a great experience and lovely to discover a restaurant of this quality so close to home.
Very good Indian food. I usually get take away from here as it's the easier option.dish to try - lamb pepper fry, favs beans curry. I have been a regular here for past 3-4 years and the quality hasn't gone down.
The best kerala style restaurant in melbourne for sure. Other than the wait time I dont have any negatives about this place. Havent tried the Kerala night yet.
It took sometime for food to arrive however food is good. Curry above the average & I would say South Indian dishes were good. But the service is poor. Waiter hardly smile. Looking very tired & unhappy. Ambiance is nice. My rating 3.5*
Absolutely loved the food. Went there on a not so busy saturday evening.
The wait time for food is a bit high. It could be because everything was freshly prepared . At least I felt so as I could relish smell of freshly roasted coconut in the curries. Nothing beats that.
Anyways the food was superb and the service too. Will definitely visit again.Prices are also reasonable.
One of the best Indian I have had, nested in Heidelberg Heights this resturant suprised me to say the least. Dishes to try - tandoori lamb chops , masala fish curry and kottu roti, flush it down with some Indian Kingfisher beer. The servers were courteous , great ambience and parking is easy. Cant wait to go back to try some more dishes.
Strong fan of coconut lagoon since they open ,so far I tried almost all south indian
Dishes in the menu , this is the only Kerala
Fine dining Restaurant in Melbourne in my knowledge, strongly recommended to try this place for traditional Kerala food
Parents visited from New Zealand this week, took them to Coconut Lagoon last night.... They thoroughly enjoyed it! Authentic kerala cuisine... you MUST try the Tuesday buffet, I give a 11/10!
I wish I could give above 5.0!! How do you know if someone has enjoyed the food - well parents and I kept talking about the various dishes we relished long after we left the restaurant. Keep up the good job :) And Manoj is a very kind & hospitable owner. Highly recommend these guys if you are in Melbourne.
A delightfully authentic southern Indian meal.
Exquisite flavours and textures. Slight delay in the meal arriving, but it was absolutely delicious and worth the wait.
Loved it.
One of the Best South Indian Restaurant in Melbourne. The Kothu Paratha is the best I have ever tasted. The food is complimented with Good Service & Great Ambience..
Feel like home. Absolutely amazing feeling everytime you are there.
Quality and authentic cuisines and gives you taste buds as same as back from your own home.
My favorite dish is in fish menu..
Amazing experience and quality food..experience it
Great kerala parotta. Been here many times love the parotta and coconut lagoon chicken curry. The beef fry is also a must try.
Geat food. We went in to try this place. Great south indian food. We had three curries and each curry had its own taste. Would love to go back and try other dishes.
Fresh and tasty.. Great food, great service, The best we have had so far (and we have tryied a lot), defenitly will come back.
All round performer. The BEST Indian restaurant in Melbourne. A little bit of patience is required since food is prepared fresh and it tastes delicious every time we have been there. Food standard has been the same for the last four years we have been eating in this joint.
Great chef cooks with lots of love.
Delicious food. I was recommended to go here by a friend and I in turn recommend it to everyone. Great restaurant, best eggplant masala and best ever chicken tikka masala too. The Fish curry is fabulous too
Great South Indian and Bombay Chinese food!!!. Coming from Bombay, we were so happy that at last we found a restaurant here in Melbourne that severed us our favourite cuisine we grew up enjoying!! Idli, vada sambar, masala dosa, chole batura, etc.
We were also happy with the service and the dishes we ordered, unfortunately we were unable to try all our favourite dishes on the menu and hence will be going back to Coconut Lagoon with our friends pretty soon!!
Excellent food and service! Best masala dosa ever!
Excellent Food !. Went to Coconut Lagoon with my family. My only 2 words are – LOVED IT. The dishes were authentic Southern Indian dishes. It is very rare you get such southern Indian dishes anywhere in Melbourne. The dishes in restaurants are very oily and creamy but not the dishes at Coconut Lagoon. Another point is that the price was very reasonable. I have been to many Indian restaurants...none like Coconut Lagoon! I will be interested to know if anyone has tried anything better than Coconut Lagoon. It will not disappoint you and we have recommended this place to many and all ...all are happy!
Kerala Buffet. The Tuesday night buffet experience was very authentic and lots of fun. It's not every day you get to eat string hoppers and iddly's, I would highly reccomend CL to those who enjoy the variety that comes with the buffet. Plenty for Vego's and v affordable at $17.95
Good South Indian (Kerala) food and worth wait. Other than waiter being a bit arrogant, rest is all awesome...
The Best Indian Food Hands down. My family and I are foodies and try out different restaurants regularly.
I would rate this restaurant in the top 5% of all the Indian restaurants in Melbourne and the best Indian restaurant offering Kerala Cuisine. My wife loves the fish fry (Spanish Mackerel) and my favorite is the egg curry, Avial (mixed vegetable Dish) with Kerala paratha. Our kids love the mild egg noodles (Indo-Chinese)with gobi manchurian (cauliflower florets).
The serving sizes are generous and the mouth watering food is worth the wait.
We have been here a couple of times and can't wait to be there soon.
(mouth is salivating as a I write about the food)
Keep up the good work guys and please don't let the quality down.
Cheers!
Just ordered a takeaway tonight. Great change to the usual bland Indian restaurant dishes. Loved the fava bean chef's special and the bhindi masala - interesting fresh spicy taste with a chilli kick.
Will definitely make a return visit to try some of their other curries.
Awesome Food!! It was a d.... Awesome Food!!
It was a delight for south Indian food, we ordered for Chilli chicken and panner for entrée which was mouth watering taste. The main came out more than expected that filled 4 people as we jointly ordered for naans, veg biryani and chicken gravy.
Tuesday night buffet is a bargain to eat all that you want!!
It’s the place to visit to take your friends and family for a good quality South Indian Food.
The Highlight and never to miss to try are the Faluda and milk Kulfi... man they know how to satisfy the taste buds!!

Awesome awesome food... N it's a buffet, means eat as much as you can!
Great :). I was craving a masala dosa, and dreaded trying to find somewhere that serves South Indian food in the Northern suburbs. Found it!! I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. It was about $13, which I thought was a little pricey, given that it's just spiced potatoes in a crepe, and that the same meal in Footscray would be less than half that.
Bear in mind that the meals don't come with rice, and it's a whopping $4.50 a serve for rice! I would definitely go back for the dosa if I was craving it again, and not in the Footscray area!
Authentic South Indian food...yum!. Their Tuesday night banquet (all you can eat) is fresh and aplenty. A wide selection of beef, fish and vegetarian dishes. The nan bread is delicious and its cloche is continually refilled. Restaurant is now fully licensed and BYO. Staff a little too aloof and have to be called over for anything.
Fantastic!. Got some food delivered last night and it was fantastic. Food took about 50 mins to arrive, which is pretty good for a Saturday night. We had the wonton soup, chicken drumettes, chilli chicken, and tandoori lamb chops and we loved every single dish. Can't wait to find another excuse not to cook so we can try out their other dishes!!
Good food but staff were arrogant. I ordered the beef pepper fry which was excellent. The fish molee was good as well. All of the food was good but the staff were arrogant. It also took a long time for the food, almost 40 minutes to come out, despite no other customers being in the restaurant.
Apart from this it was well worth the wait, as the dishes were overall good.
It's a lovely restaurant with great food. Love it. The best Dosa ever eaten. Keep it up too good
Thanks coconut lagoon. Heyy, the onam sadya was fab. this occassion gave me an opportunity to meet one of my old friend from school. thanku coconut lagoon for arranging seats so that i can sit next to my firend who i havent seen for a long time. this gave us a chance to chit chat and to enjoy the meal. we all loved the food so much.
Delicious Sadya. I decided to go to Coconut Lagoon and that too because one of my friend highly recommended it to me. The food....i have no words....it was exceptionally wonderful! Me and my whole family enjoyed it very much...reminded me of india...reminded me of my mothers cooking....I was missing it but after coming to here...i felt as if i was in india and eating food with my family....thanks for bringing back those sweet memories coconut lagoon staff and chefs :D i am proud to say that you are one of the best indian restaurants in melbourne!!!top quality food and well mannered staff ....keep doing the awesome job!!!!I CANT WAIT TILL NEXT ONAM TO HAVE IT AGAIN....
One of my best experience in Melbourne..I went last week for the Onam sadhya Lunch..the Food & Service were so good, that I came again today, it was very crowded, but the food was Excellent again..will have to wait again for 1 year, but meantime have to be happy with their Alacarte Food..
Go for this excellent fine dining experience and let me know if u can find a better one. In 27years i have never come accross a better one. Best restaurant food ever. Enjoy Indian cusine at its best. 5 Stars for this one.
Tasty. Great food, good value and friendly attentive staff. Worth a visit on the buffet night.
This South Indian cuisine is a good change from the mostly North Indian cuisine in Heidelberg and Ivanhoe
Love 'Coconut Lagoon'. I love this Indian restaurant in Heidelberg Heights, they Specialises in South Indian dishes so if you go I recommend going for what they do best. My favourite is the Masala Dosa.
'Kerala Night' on Tuesdays is terrific value at $18 per person where you can sample a wide range of delicacies (meat and veg) from Kerela/South India.
The restaurant is clean, simply decorated and has air-con.
I recently took a large group to Kerala night and the staff were very friendly and generous in accommodating my request to have the chef speak about each of the dishes in the smorgasbord.
Highly recommended.
NB - access could be an issue for some customers (at Kerela night) as the smorgasbord is on the lower ground floor (stairs) but I'm sure staff would be helpful in this situation.
Pleasantly surprised about the quality of the food, all dishes had great depth of flavours and reasonable serves. Standout dish was the mutton pepper fry; truly delicious. The beef vindaloo was moderately hot.Only fault was the slow service
Great food. And lots of it, be careful just how much you order. Not expensive. We are going back with more people
I never been to south Indian place before but friends believe me one of best places with ample of varieties specially chicken curry, beef curry, variety in raita delicious. Even my kids ate more than home today. Must try place specially on Tuesday Kerala night buffet.
Good food and service. There wasn't a dish that was not tasty. Return to it I will
Fabuluous!. Authentic and excellent Kerala food! Also has a selection of North Indian dishes if you are not adventurous. Must try the Mutton pepper fry dish and faludha for desert both are OUT OF THIS WORLD!!
Restaurant has simple decor, few frills and great prices. Food does take a while to arrive though so be prepared to wait a little.

The food here is amazing. Visited 2 times and it was great. You can feel the taste of Kerala when you go there. Porotta here is just like what we get back in Kerala and it goes really well with basically anything. I personally like it with beef curry.
On Tuesday’s they have the buffet which is very affordable , tasty and comes with a range of food to choose from. It’s a must try place for all of the food lovers out there.
The food is made fresh and it's delicious! Such a gem in the area. The spicy fried lamb is the best! Will definitely revisit!
Great place for authentic South Indian food! A little on the expensive side though.
Amazing authentic Kerala food! We visited for the first time for Kerala night buffet, which happens on Tuesdays! The spread was excellent and tasted delicious..Wish we had the appetite to eat it all!! Good to a restaurant keeping it authentic..Will definitely be a regular here!!
100% authentic kerala food . Loved the food . Especially the pepper chicken is a definite no miss . There is a long wait . But totally worth it as they make everything fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant . They have genuine desire to feed quality food to customers.
