Review Zeins Authentic - Heidelberg

Dom Piet
One of the best lamb salad dishes I have ever had. Was shocked when it came out and even more when I tasted it. The humus around the bowl was fresh, the lamb beautifully cooked. The burgers that my friends had were loved as well. Highly recommend this gem.

I am so happy to spend my Sunday lunch with my friends in Zeins. A nice and quiet environment and tatsy dish of falafel and chips. Every one in my group loved their food. Staffs were super helpful and lovely. Also the coffees were pretty good.

My partner and I went there the other night. The food was amazing, everything was cooked perfectly, everything had so much flavour to it but nothing overpowering, it was perfect. The dessert was delicious and the pomegranate drink I got was amazing. Customer service was also great, I’d highly recommend this place.

Best value seafood platter around. $42 for a massive platter - was shocked when it wasn't for two! Dips were rich, creamy and balanced. Bravo team. Service was personable but not pretentious. Hidden gem and very glad they take walk ins!

Located in Heidelberg, Zein’s Authentic offers an extensive all day menu with a Lebanese twist. Visiting for brunch we ordered the chilli soujuk scramble and the Zein’s pancakes along with tea, coffees and an OJ to drink. The chilli soujuk scramble featuring stirred egg with soujuk, caramelised onion, coriander & chilli & potato with a side of tahini, tomato purée and tilma bread was unlike any chilli scramble I’ve had to date. I enjoyed the Lebanese touches, the sujuk and potato was delicious and the flavours of the dish worked together beautifully. The bread was lovely and soft and I liked that the sauces were served separately so you can add as little or as much as you’d like. This dish is on the filling side so it’s a good option if you’re very hungry or have a big appetite. The Zein’s pancakes served with strawberries, pomegranate seeds, walnuts, peanut butter, organic caramel sauce, vegan chocolate sauce & coconut ice cream were beautifully presented. I liked that the pancakes were on the smaller side, I think it’s a good sized portion for one person without needing to share. The peanut butter and chocolate sauce were a great combo. I found the dish to be nicely balanced and I liked that it wasn’t overly sweet. Overall I had a lovely experience at Zein’s Authentic. I really enjoyed the Lebanese twist on the brunch fare and I recommend you check them out if in the area. I rate it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5. Thanks very much for having me.

Finally checked out this cute and great cafe in the Heidelberg area! <br/><br/>First thing I noticed was how beautiful and inviting the interior is! Obsessed with the flower wall inside as I'm a huge fan of anything floral - its also perfect for photos. <br/><br/>Drink wise we ordered cappuccinos which are served in the cutest glass cups. For food we chose the vegan pancakes, nourish bowl and vegan shakshuka. My favourite was the nourish bowl as it was packed with heaps of veggies and we added halloumi as an extra which was the perfect addition. The vegan shakshuka was also yum, loved the side of bread and I got to try vegan cheese for the first time. The vegan pancakes were a great sweet treat and enjoyed how peanut butter and strawberries were in each layer. <br/><br/>The menu has a huge variety of dishes to choose from including vegan and gluten free options which is ideal for those with dietary requirements. Check this cafe out for a delicious brunch!!

Invited for brekkie Zeins brings a Lebanese twist to classic cafe menu. Zeins have both indoor and outdoor seating for those sunny days. I ordered the vegan shashuka and it was one of the best shashuka I've had in Melbourne, definitely didn't miss the baked eggs in this. The classic chilli scramble dish had sujuk added for that Middle Eastern twist. The pancakes are a stunner and tasted great.<br/>Overall a great cafe with a delicious Middle Eastern spin on many popular dishes.

Semi-hideen gem - One of the best restaurants in Banyule and some of the best Lebanese food in Melbourne.

Went to Zeins yesterday and ordered three incredible dishes being the gluten free pancakes, the Lebanese breakfast board and the fritters. I was blown away by the service and quality of food. It was my first time trying gluten free pancakes and I was surprised by how much I preferred it over normal pancakes! The food was cooked to perfection with immaculate presentation. The fritters were so crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The Barista was so lovely and joyful, it was an amazing experience and would go again!

Zeins is a lovely cafe, beautiful interior and a comfortable outdoor sitting area too.<br/><br/>We started off with some coffees which were great! They were made perfectly and I loved the glasses they were served in.We shared the vegan shakshuka, hot cakes, chilli soujuk scramble and a salad. The dishes were presented beautifully and made with the freshest of ingredients. The portions were so big, you definitely won't leave feeling hungry!<br/><br/>Zeins is worth a visit, the menu here is really good with so many great options. Thank you for the invite we had a fab time

eins Authentic, a Lebanese inspired café and restaurant located in downtown Heidelberg.<br/>We were so much looking forward to visit this café, with high expectation and did not disappoint.<br/>We arrived early in Saturday's morning (we are early risers by the way) and were warmly greeted and seated.<br/>We opted for their Salmon nourish bowl and gluten free vegan chocolate pancake<br/>I love my pancake as it has slightly chewy texture and the vegan chocolate sauce lifts up the dish to a whole new level<br/>Our salmon was grilled to perfection and we love the remaining elements came in the bowl such as baba ganoush and brocollini.<br/>Our visit to Zeins is an amazing one.

The staff are very friendly at this cafe! Food was YUM and came pretty quickly. I asked for ONE extra piece of sourdough and instead was given a serving of toast off the menu which was annoying as I had to pay double. Keen to try their dinner menu! Overall a good brunch spot In Heidelberg!

Great place for catchups. Large selection of gluten-free and vegan friendly options on menu.<br/><br/>Staff were friendly and attentive.<br/><br/>Dishes were so pretty and delicious too! Serving sizes were generous and lovely plating.<br/><br/>All in all great place to try. Highly recommend!

So we have been searching for more vegan and gluten free friendly places to dine at as we have a few friends need dietary requirements. So happy to have found this amazing Cafe that hits all the right spots. Taste is amazing, presentation is on point and the customer service is fantastic! I'm looking forward to taking my gfs here to try the nourish bowl and a few of the other dishes!

Zeins have changed my mind about Lebanese food and usually I’m not a big fan of it. On the day we had:<br/>- Calamari salad<br/>- Barramundi along with <br/>- Pine Princess mocktail<br/>- Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri<br/>The dishes came out nice and colourful and tasted amazing. The highlight for me was probably the Calamari Salad, the calamari was perfectly cooked and was soft, you can actually cut it using a fork. Definitely will be coming back for more!
Jess (@isthatmyfood)
We visited Zeins Authentic recently for a late lunch. They were opened until 3pm, so it was perfect timing for us. <br/><br/>We ordered the Calamari Salad and I must say, I love the slices of watermelon in the salad. It's very refreshing and it tastes delicious. We also ordered the barramundi, this dish has a creamy taste compared to the other dish. Both seafood dishes are really good, the portion-size was perfect and they are perfect for when you are looking for a light dish. <br/><br/>For drinks, we ordered the Pine Princess and the Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri. These drinks are very vibrant and very refreshing. The Pine Princess was served with a bamboo straw - which is a massive plus in my books. I love environmentally friendly cafes. I definitely recommend this place, if you're ever in the area.

Visited Zeins Authentic in the heart of Heidelberg yesterday to catch up with my good friend for brunch. <br/><br/>ATMOSPHERE:<br/>We sat outside the front of the cafe as it was a lovely sunny day and felt extremely comfortable and relaxed. <br/><br/>FOOD:<br/>- Strawberries & Cream Bowl <br/>- Nourish Bowls <br/>- Pita Pockets<br/>- Feeling Green <br/>- Banana Nut <br/><br/>REVIEW (5/5): 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟<br/>With such a welcome front of house in Sam you feel at home as soon as you walk into this Lebanese cafe. The food and drinks we're impeccable with my favourite dish being the nourish bowl. I would absolutely recommend this cafe and plan to return shortly!

lebanese inspired brunch<br/>🥞 zeins pancake<br/>🌽 famous fritters<br/>🥑 nourish bowl<br/>🏚: Zeins Authentic<br/>📍: Melbourne<br/>————————————————————<br/>📝: Have a comfort, hearty brunch to warm yourself up on this rainy day. Zeins Authentic combines the traditional flavors of Lebanese cuisine, presenting them with an innovative modern twist.<br/><br/>❤️: Though I’m usually a sweettooth, I’d have to say the savories here are amazing, and my favorite as well! The Famous fritters were insane, served warm and crispy with smashed avo, zucchini, topped with salsa.<br/><br/>Nourish bowl was just as amazing. The beetroot drip tasted great and the bowl came with so many ingredients!<br/><br/>I didn’t like the pancakes though. They were super thick and not fluffy at all. Yet, it was understandable since it was vegan. But if I went again, I wouldn’t order it.

4.5<br/>We dined at Zeins Authenic is a busy Saturday night. Welcomed by friendly staff and ushered into a welcoming venue. I do enjoy an Lebanese feast and the dinner menu had some classic examples. <br/><br/>We started with a couple of smoothie/mocktails which we enjoyed while waiting for our entrees to arrive . The Pomegranate dream was delightfully tart while the Strawberry colada smooth and sweet with a lovely coconut taste.<br/><br/>We ordered a giant trio of dips and dips were tasty. I enjoyed the baba ghanouj which wasn’t particularly smokey the highlight would have to have been the beetroot hummus especially when combined with the zaatar spiced breads.<br/><br/>For mains we had the entree sized Lebanese meatballs, the juicy chicken tawook and the zesty fattoush salad.  Each dish was full of fresh herbs and loaded with banging Lebanese flavours. The serves here are big so order with that in mind.<br/><br/>For dessert we ordered the orange and hazelnut soufflé served with coconut ice cream. As with most soufflés this took a while to cook to order but was well worth the wait. Delicious <br/><br/>Thanks to the team at Zein Authentic for their hospitality

In the busy main street of Heidelberg nestles the coolest cafe in town, serving up a delicious Lebanese fusion menu and fantastic coffee. The cafe itself is roomy and modern, but still comfortable and relaxing. The seating out the front is great as it's covered, but you still get that outdoor experience. The staff make you feel welcome and are total sweethearts. It's clear that hospitality is in their blood, and dining at this fabulous cafe is like visiting family. <br/><br/>We started with some amazing coffees, and I loved the unusual glasses that they were served in. After perusing the extensive menu, we decided on the corn fritters and the hotcakes. Both dishes were presented beautifully, and the colour and vibrance was so enticing. <br/><br/>Firstly, the fritters were light and crispy; and the filling was so tasty, and seasoned well. The dipping sauce, creamy avocado and tomato salsa were so fresh and delicious; and really added a whole lot of flavour to the dish. <br/><br/>The hotcakes were outstanding. Nice and thick, but still light and fluffy; this stack of three pancakes were sandwiched with peanut butter and chocolate, and topped with massive strawberries. I loved that the ice cream was served on the side, on top of a huge smear of peanut butter; as ice cream often melts too quickly when served on top. The bowl of chocolate sauce was thick and rich, and when paired with chocolate and strawberries, really was a marriage made in heaven. <br/><br/>With their generous serves, there is no way that you will leave Zeins Authentic hungry. You are encouraged to linger and enjoy yourself, and the buzzing atmosphere makes it a fun place to hang out. The quality of the food really is outstanding, and the Lebanese spins on classics really adds a point of difference that makes them stand out from the standard cafe. Whether you like sweet or savoury, you are bound to find something that you love here, and it will be enough to have you returning time and time again.

What a hidden gem in Heidelberg. Lebanese brunch is definitely something new in Melbourne. We loved the unique menu from grilled Barra to fresh strawberry and cream bowl it’s definitely a winner. The smoothies were fresh and fits the perfect summer vibe on a warm day. The Barra topped with fresh salad is perfect for those who want a lighter yet satisfying brunch.<br/><br/>Can’t wait to check out the rest of their menu! Not your classic brunch but definitely a hidden gem.

I came here w a friend as a plus one for brunch. This is a great cafe in the main street of Heidelberg I initially ordered a Banana Nut Smoothie which was almond milk, cocoa, banana, peanut butter and dates. This was tasty, vegan and good for you.To eat I had the Famous Fritters which were sweet potato corn fritters w smashed avo, zucchini, & topped with tomato, parsley and onion salsa. And I had a side of bacon. This dish was really yummy. The bacon was well cooked, and the fritters were well cooked and crunchy on the outside. Overall this was a really good brunch and I just want wanted to thank the owners for the opportunity to visit their cafe.

A LEBANESE FEAST IN THE HEART OF HEIDELBERG.<br/><br/>We came here on a Sunday morning and we were impressed with many things!<br/><br/>The venue was warm and inviting. With both indoor and alfresco seating. We chose outdoor seating so we can watch the hustle and bustle that was going on around Heidelberg.<br/><br/>The menu was impressive! Not only did it have an intensive range of breakfast, lunch, dinner options, the drinks and dessert menu was also to be commended. There were so many non-alcoholic and alcoholic options and there is literally a page full of sweets! Most importantly, they cater and have dishes that are gluten free, vegan, dairy free, nut free and vegetarian. That to us was very impressive!<br/><br/>After a hard time deciding what to get, we chose the Famous Fritters, Mama's Falafel Bowl and Strawberries and Cream Smoothie Bowl! <br/><br/>The falafel bowl not only beautiful in presentation but tasted fresh and delicious! We enjoyed it with the hummus drip and the zaatar bread. <br/>The fritters were made with sweet potato and corn and topped with avo and the fresh tomato, onion and pasley salsa and was absolutely yummy! <br/>And to end with, the strawberries and cream bowl had the right amount of ingredients and toppings and a perfect way to end the meal.<br/><br/>What a great place to visit. Recommend visiting in all times of the day to enjoy the delicious flavours!

To describe @zeinsauthentic as the most Asle ( authentic ) and Dakar ( epic) restaurant would truly be an understatement ... why you may ask? ✴✴ That's cos there is no one else on the Melbourne food scene who is plating such mind blowing contemporary Lebanese tastes with such finesse. ✴✴ The decor was superbly trendy and modern, with artistic mirrors and bright lighting set up that made it seemingly perfect for a romantic or a friendly, family catch up in the hustled streets of Heidelberg that's conveniently becoming the new suburb to check out for some stylish venues for brunch. ✴✴ Owner Chef Rober Elzein is the super talented name behind this place who's passion is to bring original traditional lebanese tastes on each plate with a hint of modern tones through its artistic presentation and use of authentic lebanese flavours, each dish has a beautiful story attached to it that immediately takes you to the fairy tale streets of Zahle. ✴✴ The menu itself was perhaps the most vibrantly stylish one that I have seen thus far. ✴✴ What we had:<br/>ZEINS PANCAKES: strawberries, pomegranate seeds, walnuts, organic peanut butter, vegan chocolate sauce and coconut ice cream.<br/><br/>SMASHED IN BEIRUT: smashed avo avo and mint served on sourdough with marinated cherry tomatoes, beetroot hummus and crumbled falafel topped with pomegranate seeds, sumac and zaatar spices ✴✴ They also have a huge selection of mezze, mains, dips, salad, wine dessert for dinner that starts from 5 30pm after you have tried their fabulously exogasmic brunch menu. POMEGRANATE DREAM and BANANA NUT for our drinks ✴✴<br/>Huge Da Rien (thanks) to @zeinsauthentic for bringing these flavours to our life. We are going to be back soon for dinner<br/><br/>#mojolevel 5/5

Heidleberg is a very unexplored suburb for me and yet it is so close by. We were absolutely gobsmacked to find that most of the breakfast menu is gluten free and meets so many other dietary requirements too.

Zeins authentic is so welcoming on the busy street in Heidelberg. I love the outside tables because it means I get to bring my furry bestie. We started with a coffee and hot chocolate which both hit the spot. My friend is a hot chocolate connoisseur and she gave it a very high rating. We then tried the The Way It’s Done in Lebanon which is actually one of my fave breakfasts in Melbourne. It has the perfect balance between light and fresh (the cucumber and tomato pieces), rich and hearty (the halloumi and lamb sausages) and the classic (2 fried eggs) and of course flat bread and yoghurt which goes with it all. So great! We also tried the pancakes which were so pretty, almost too pretty to eat. The peanut butter was a highlight, it added that saltiness that balanced the flavours. The Banana smoothie was also delightful, it’s almost a meal in itself so we shared it, but that worked well. A great brunch spot! Thanks for having us!

A cafe who have based their menu on a twist between authentic Lebanese and modern Melbourne brunch<br/><br/>Zein’s Fritters ~ Sweet potato corn fritters, served with smashed avo, grilled zucchini and fresh tomato salsa, topped with fresh Zatar.⁣<br/><br/>⁣Mamas Falafel Bowl - Falafel, tabouli, hummus, pickled veggies, tomato, cucumber, olives served with zaatar bread! I loved this dish - Fresh, delicious, with a huge variety of elements which work beautifully together! The pickled veggies added another depth of flavour & the hummus was the perfect element to tie everything together!⁣<br/><br/>Amazing flavours all round and a delicious fusion which is so authentic and tasty! Can’t wait to return to try more!

What a great time we had at Zeins! We absolutely loved the menu and couldn’t wait to taste the food. The Vegan peanut butter pancakes were amazing. So soft and fluffy. We couldn’t say no to the Lebanese brekky dish and we were not disappointed. The Vegan Shaksuka was amazing as well and full of flavour.

I had brunch here yesterday with my wife, and the food was amazing. Loved the fritters stack w/ smashed avo. The banana nut smoothie was great, and the pancakes were the best I’ve had, especially with the pb and vegan chocolate sauce & coconut ice cream. Looking forward to coming back.

Zeins Authentic is an awesome, modern cafe located in Heidelberg, that offers a Lebanese twist to their menu. Their staff were very friendly and welcoming, especially Sam who looked after us!<br/><br/>We ordered coffees, and a smoothie. For food we ordered the nourish bowl, salmon bowl, and smashed in Beruit. All dishes and drinks were amazing and served with large portion sizes.<br/><br/>All in all, the cafe had a really good vibe, and served delicious food, with excellent service. We will be back here soon!

Great location in Heidelberg ...but the food was horrible .<br/>The fattoush Salad had the limpest browned salad ..I would not serve that to my chickens !!! and the Zaztar chips were stogy .The coffee was no better . Plenty of other choices in the street that look great ...dont waste your money

We went to this restaurant on Friday ....what a mistake .t was not a good at Zeins. The dining area was stuffy and very warm. I had to ask for extra water to be added to the teapot to cover and brew the leaf tea; the sourdough was not crisply toasted; and the scrambled eggs were over cooked and dry. This surprised me, given other reviewers’ generally positive experiences. When I spoke to the owner/manager he was very rude ...in fact he had been all day as he also barked to me to move my glass of water so he could put the food down ...tables are very very small .Given there were many other cafes on Burgundy Street that were busier, and buzzing, I’ll try somewhere else when I’m next in Heidelberg.

We went for brunch today and had a delicious vegan friendly meal. There's really decent vegan options including PANCAKES! I had the vegan Shakshuka, and my dad had poached eggs on toast with lamb sausages, and we both really enjoyed it. The coffee was really good and staff were friendly.

Went there for breakfast today ...food was dreadful , coffee horrid and owner was rude ...do not waste your money

If you love Lebanese food, you’ll love Zeins! We had an amazing time just relaxing and eating delicious food in our local suburb of Heidelberg. The staff here are so friendly and love to chat, made us feel right at home from the moment we walked through the door.<br/><br/>We would highly recommend the vegan take on the brownie Alaska and the traditional Lebanese sweet dumplings. I love the fact that there were so many vegan and gluten free options, it’s great to see a traditional restaurant take on some modern twists and cater for many food lifestyles/intolerances.

Got to experience Zeins at a brunch event. The place had a rustic feel yet with beautiful floral decor inside. (perfect for those IG photos ;) ) This place serves authentic Lebanese food with a mordern twist thus catering to tastes of both the young and older crowd. Some of the dishes worth a mention: • So Good (drink) - This was refreshing! A lovely blend of watermelon, strawberry, pineapple and mint to make this mocktail. This lived up to the name! •Zeins Pancakes - This dessert was the show stopper! The caramel and chocolate sauce and peanut butter complemented the pancakes so well, I wouldn't want to share it! Perfect for all dessert lovers. • The way it's done in Lebanon - I enjoyed the eggs served with some Lebanese style sausgaes along with well grilled haloumi. Zeins is a good option when you want to try out a different cuisine and still be safe!

What a great place, my coffee was superb & brunch was amazing! <br/><br/>I was very impressed with all the meals I got to sample but the pancakes were a standout, especially with that delishhhh pb & chocolate sauce.<br/><br/>Great Lebanese feast with a very modern twist! <br/><br/>This place also has an amazing drink list, lovely atmosphere & attentive staff.<br/><br/>I can't wait to revisit soon!!

I had the pleasure of attending Zeins the other day for an absolute feast. What a wonderful venue on the main Heidelberg strip. <br/><br/>With a selection of both mezza and main dishes there was plenty to chose from. It is also amazing that I noted the amount of choice for anyone with a dietary requirement. A + in my books!<br/><br/>Diving into the food, the most notable dishes for me were the ‘Mamas Falafel Bowl’ with falafel, tabouli, pickled vegetables, tomato, cucumber, olives and a side of the freshest zaatar bread! The combination of fresh flavours complimented the crunch of the falafel amazingly well. <br/><br/>I also loved the ‘Zeins Pancakes’ which were one of the most stunning dishes. Coming with strawberries, pomegranate seeds, walnuts, peanut butter, organic caramel sauce, vegan chocolate sauce and coconut ice cream. This dish had everything you need and more. The coconut ice cream was light and refreshing to balance out the peanut butter and pancake batter. <br/><br/>A beautiful place to dine, anytime of the day. With amazing staff and a warm and welcoming interior, I would highly recommend this place for every meal.

We had such an amazing time at Zeins Authentic! We loved the amazing service from the team here and the range of food they serve!<br/>Definitely will come back for more smoothies, fritters and hotcakes!

A cosy cafe with the friendliest staff. The seats are quite close. Nice interior and warm lighting.<br/><br/>Gluten free pancakes - semi crisp and perfectly cooked. The Nutella is warm and complimented with the peanut butter.<br/><br/>Fritters - so warm and the fritters are flavorful and perfectly pairful with the lemon wedge.

Amazing experience here with fellow foodies. Food drinks and service were all amazing, and I will definitely come back soon!

Attending Brunch Club at Zeins was an absolute treat with Middle Eastern cuisines on the menu. I was rather impressed with the extensive range of drinks all bright and colourful. Interior is rather cosy with a flower wall providing a great backdrop. Plenty of dishes it was hard to decide what to eat first but the sweetooth always gravitates towards the pancakes.

Brunch club 4.0 recently was organised at @zeinsauthentic and we all had an amazing time.<br/><br/>Zeins Authentic serves food that combines the traditional flavours of Lebanon with a contemporary twist. We had so many different dishes to taste and share, all of them being top notch.<br/><br/>They also offer an elaborate variety of cocktails, mocktails & smoothies, all off which are so good. <br/>So if you are in or around the area, definitely stop by and try some of their amazing dishes.

Zeins is a Lebanese place that’s within walking distance from the Heidelberg train station. First glimpse of the menu and I realised that I probably need to come here a couple of times to try everything that they offer.<br/><br/>We were introduced to zeins new brunch offerings. There was really a bit of everything - zucchini fritters, pancakes, a middle eastern interpretation of poke bowl, grilled calamari salad etc. my favourite was the smashed in Beirut dish - chia seeds on avocado was a smart and healthy meal paired with crumbed falafel was the stuff of dreams! I also love their strawberry smoothie (perhaps a bit more than the pineapple one) because it was a good blend of berries, pineapple and a hint of coconut milk! <br/><br/>I would honestly like to come back to this place and try their more traditional Lebanese offerings. Judging by the lunch crowd, I know it’s worth another trip to this place! <br/>*<br/>Taste: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>Ambience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>Presentation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>Price: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Zein Authentic has a beautiful flower wall and beautiful lighting.<br/><br/>The chicken skewers had plenty of flavour with a tasty yoghurt dip served on a bed of rice and salad.<br/><br/>The pomegranate dream mocktail was very refreshing it came with crushed strawberries and passionfruit.<br/><br/>I highly recommend the peanut butter and Nutella pancakes which are served with strawberries.<br/><br/>This was my second time to zein authentic and I can't wait to go back.

What a beautiful venue right in the middle of Heidy. Awesome attentive staff, beautiful savoury and sweet food (the vegan pancakes, smoothie bowl and anything with their incredible falafels in, I highly recommend) and a lovely ambient vibe. Worth the drive for a visit if you don't live close. Thank you so much Zeins!

Very enjoyable meal here. The flavours were nice and the portions generous. I have found cafes in this area to be frankly hit and miss but I would definitely recommend this one and will be returning again when I’m in the area for a delicious and solid feed

Disappointed. Been going to Zein’s for the past couple of years. Ordered a cocktail and instead of asking me for my ID they just made it alcohol free and then charged me for a full price cocktail (discovered this as we have a breatho at home). I assume after taking my order they were too embarrassed to ask for my ID. Also I understand small business needing to charge for the use of a credit card and tap and go so the idea of the surcharge didn’t bother me until, I inserted my card and selected savings and still got charged a surcharge. I also accidentally pressed the wrong button when I initially went to pay for lunch, the lady at the desk was annoyed by this she snatched the machine away from me and attempted to snatch my card out of my hand. Disappointed and will not be returning ever again, even though the food has always been very good.

I've been meaning to write this review as the experience I had at Zein's wasn't the greatest. <br/><br/>I have been to Zein's twice. <br/>It has it's pros and cons.<br/><br/>Pros being:<br/>The food is delicious.<br/><br/>Cons: <br/>The owner is extremely rude. <br/><br/>Last time I went to Zein's was about 2 weeks ago (which will be my last time). My partner and I were having a dinner with friends. Once the owner came around to take our order for drinks, I was asking if it was okay if we could order food (we were waiting for about 20 minutes and we had time to look at the menu). The owner gave me such a negative attitude, rolled his eyes as he left to go collect his note pad that he left at the front desk, to say the least -my partner, friends and I felt disrespected. APOLOGIES that it's such an ISSUE to order food? <br/><br/>After we finished eating, we wanted to pay the bill. We asked if we could split it, since the bill wasn't tallied into one big sum, we were trying to work out the final total for each individual meal - this took us 3-4 minutes MAX. The owner gave us all the impression that it was an issue for him, he had such an unpleasant demeanor. Mind you, there isn't a "No Split Bill" sticker.<br/><br/>If you want great food, by all means, go to Zeins, it's a tad pricey but overall, the food is delicious. Although if you want awful customer service from an owner that doesn't respect you, I wouldn't go.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, I will not be recommending this to my friends or family, I will not pay to have such low quality customer service. It's such a shame because Zein has beautiful food and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but as mentioned previously, I don't want to be wasting my money on a business that doesn't respect me.

We went for the banquet menu, food was ok but nothing special. The meat was chewier and not as tender as we would have liked but flavour was ok.
Jillian Batchelor
Beautiful food but as far as staff very very unfriendly and very rude we were all (7) felt the same way not likely to go back we all felt very uncomfortable 👎👎👎👎
Louisa Hemingway
The food was amazing but unfortunately the service was not. The owner was not impressed by the fact we had brought a baby into his restaurant. There wasn’t a change table available, we had to get our own high chair and he kept scowling and snatching items off the table. There weren’t any white wines available by the glass. <br/>The owner was so rude I’m afraid that we won’t be going back.

The first thing I thought about this place was: 🧜‍♂️<br/><br/>Yes, before visiting Zeins Authentic, I am not really sure why, evertytime I would say or think about the name Zein, I would associate it straight away to a mythical creature and a very very big man, semi naked, with what it seems to be a ripped piece of a bed sheet and a gold metal badge on it. Also him holding a trident and a huge castle like throne behind him. And maybe a dragon just causally chilling next to him.<br/><br/>(Yes, it seems legit - definitely something you would see in a usual cafe venue in Melbourne 😂)<br/><br/>Actually, Zein is the principal protein of maize (corn!). It is something edible with a clear look and it has no odor nor taste. It is also quite hard and it is used in commercial products, like paper cups, soda bottle cap linings, fabrics and other… boring things. Yes, this sounded more interesting when we thought it was a mythical world.<br/><br/>And although there wasn’t any dragon, legendary beasts, GoT inspired scenario, supernatural, mystical, and naked god-like beings in the room (thank you? 🙏😂 ) brunch was worth of the gods indeed! Zeins Authentic is all about incorporating Lebanese food and culture into the modern Australian world and I can see why it clearly stands out from other venues in Melbourne.<br/><br/>From the moment me and my friend arrived at the venue, I could see straight away that this place would be one of those venues that are ‘cosy’ and with those familiar and welcoming feelings. And I certainly wasn’t wrong 👏 such a great escape from Melbourne’s cold winter, the heated interior welcomed me as did the staff with the biggest smiling faces, straight away at the entrance. Plus, the moment we walked in, I was mesmerised by the beauty of this place. It has such an enchanting and forest type decoration making it seem that you are inside a tree house. There is a diversity of plants inside the venue and the place itself it definitely bigger than what it seems in the first place - a main room is located at the back with a beautiful plant wall at the far end and another rather small room (only fits a large table) can be found on the right closer to the entrance.<br/><br/>I actually hadn’t seen much of the menu besides some of their highlighted meals on Instagram that I was obviously keen to try and after going through the menu for a few second and getting some advice from the staff on what they recommended, here’s what we had<br/><br/>- Zeins Pancakes with two vegan icecream scoops - in one word, PANTASTIC 👏👏👏 I have tried a couple of vegan pancakes around Melbourne and I must say these are now my top one 👌 why? Because of the fluffiness and the ingredients used! The consistency and taste of the pancakes is incredible - just a tiiiiiny bit thicker than those chinese sponge cakes, and they don’t lose their massive height and form. I love love love how tall each cake is and how each bite is just a party in your mouth 👏 it’s not overly sweet either and the combination of this fluffiness with the creaminess of the coconut icecream is just scrumptious 👏👏👏 the icecream certainly does not overpower the whole meal and pairs PERFECTLY with the banana and maple syrup. Seriously, just describing it right now is making me want to have it all over again because it was so SO good. It is an 12/10 - no, 11 is not even enough to describe how good it was! Quantities were perfect 👌 SO INSANELY DELIGHTFUL. And there were some sprinkled nuts and pomegranate seeds that took this meal to absolute PERFECTION - crunchiness and just the right freshness in one mouthful - WHAT A DREAM 👏👌 one final note about the banana (because as a banana lover, how could I not comment on this? 😂👌) and the fact that it was masterly oven baked and flawless 👏 the skin was interesting to eat (it gained a darker colour with the heat and it doesn’t have much flavour or crunchiness but it not only looked great but it was enjoyable too!). Loved this meal in every single aspect of it and trust me that this is the type of dish that will make you spend time on transports just to try it!<br/><br/>- Ahtaboot - this was a zaatar marinated grilled calamari and WOW 👏 first of all the presentation exceeded all expectations and just the looks of it scream not only health in every single aspect of the word but also make you actually drool over how inviting, lush and finger licking it looks! A glorious meal indeed with such a good portion of calamari, not oily, non greasy, just pure good seafood 👏 it came with a generous salad and with a soya mayo and I was actually so keen to enjoy the meal. We squeezed in a lemon in there to even highlight the flavour more and it certainly was up to the expectations! 👌<br/><br/>- Kibbee B’Saynia - very interesting choice indeed! We chose this meal to try some real and typical Lebanese cuisine and the first thing that I thought when it arrived was ‘what a beautifully looking pie!’. Oh boy, was I wrong 😂 not about the presentation though, not at all - that was outstanding! It came in a rounded wooden board, and it included an over baked layered cracked wheat filled with lamb mince and pine nuts. The wheat was quite dense and filling and the things I enjoyed the most was how warm and crumbly it was! This was undoubtedly one of the heartily cosy meals I’ve had in a while. The combination of the lamb with pine nuts creates a very interesting combo and although not very rich in flavour, with three side toppings and the salad (that balance the thickness of the ‘pie’) make this quite enjoyable to eat and great warm winter alternative! <br/><br/>It was such a good brunch and I cannot thank enough the staff for their hospitality! They are so flexible and attentive and they most certainly made us feel at home. Good food, good company = GREAT memorable times 🙌 Before we left, my friend had tried one baklava that unfortunately (for me) wasn’t dairy free and I wasn’t able to taste it too but she was delighted with the final treat and very overwhelmed by how good it was!<br/><br/>I would definitely recommend EVERYONE to come here to try those pancakes as well as the other items because no matter what you choose you will certainly leave with a big smile on your face and with a warm and satisfied soul! 👏

A great place to enjoy traditional Lebanese food with a friendly ambience and service. For entree, we had the Malfouf (baked cabbage rolls stuffed with rice, chickpeas and onion) and Ma Anek (Lebanese sausages). Both were really delicious; the Malfouf are really big and was more like a main in quantity. For mains, we had the lamb kafta and the Riz a Djaj, again two delicious dishes which were really flavourful. Definitely recommended for traditional Lebanese food if you are in the area.

I went to Zein's for lunch and I was so impressed with the variety on the menu, not to mention the many Vegan and Gluten Free options! <br/><br/>The team is very welcoming and friendly! The décor and vibe makes you feel at home. <br/><br/>I tried Zein's Pancakes which are VEGAN and GF. They were amazingly thick and fluffy, topped with caramelized banana, walnuts, caramel sauce, nuts and coconut ice-cream! Definitely up there with some of the best vegan pancakes in Melbourne! <br/><br/>We also tried the Shakshuka, which is also vegan!! With vegan cheese, amazing basil pesto and mushrooms on the side, this dish was a winner! Flavours were amazing. <br/><br/>The vegan hot chocolate was delicious too, def recommend. I also tried the Lebanese coffee which was STRONG! <br/><br/>I can't wait to go back and try the dinner menu next!!<br/><br/><br/>UPDATE: went back to Zein’s and tried the NEW PB CHOC PANCAKES. OMG amazing. Also had a grubby chai - the best. Plus vegan fritters which were so flavourful. Flavours always on point here!! Plus great vegan options. Can’t wait to go back!

<br/>Food not so good, service not good, can’t split bills, staff forgets to give you your dessert but still expects you to pay for it or take it as a takeaway.

I’ve never had Lebanese cuisine before & I’m glad I tried it here for the first time!<br/><br/>The atmosphere of the restaurant was really nice, with good lighting, cute fairy lights, greenery inside & nice wooden decor.<br/><br/>The food was very tasty & good sizes for the price!<br/>The cauliflower bites were not too oily & had a nice crispy mouth feel to them.<br/>The falafels has great flavour & we’re very tasty. I enjoyed the crumb on the outside & it was nicely paired with the soft flat bread. I really liked the pickle & the sauce but not a fan of olives so I gave those to my friend.<br/><br/>The service was super polite & friendly, with the staff giving me suggestions as it was my first time trying their cuisine. I also had a lovely chat with the owner at the end who was very welcoming.

Real rating 4.4 ⭐️ <br/><br/>We were around Heidelberg a few months back and decided to visit Zeins Authentic! Here’s what we had!<br/><br/>Shakshuka - chickpeas marinated capsicum and zucchini baked in house made tomato sauce topped with vegan cheese parsley basil and almond flakes served with tilma bread and basil hummus and mushroom! As you can tell there were many elements in this dish! The shakshuka was very flavorful and saucy! The richness and thickness of the sauce absorbed into the bread made it a hearty meal!<br/><br/>Zens pancakes - caramelized banana and walnuts topped with organic caramel sauce pomegranate seeds and coconut ice cream! Need I say more? The pancakes were absolutely thick, soft, fluffy and moist and the flavors were interesting! Rarely I see pancakes used with coconut ice cream! The sweetness of this was right for me (might be overly sweet for others)! There was definitely a melting sensation as well!<br/><br/>Zens fritters - sweet potato corn fritters served with smashed avocado grilled zucchini and fresh tomato salsa topped with fresh zaatar! As you can see from the picture, this was another beauty but it was my fave for the day! The fritters were fried perfectly and the salsa was such a creative idea which added to the tanginess of the sweet fritters! The sauce used for the fritters was also a perfect addition to this! I would recommend this to try!<br/><br/>Overall, we had a fantastic experience with Zeins Authentic and would definitely visit again to try their other yummy looking dishes! ♥️

We had a great Mediterranean brunch at Zeins Authentic and it was a little different to other cafes we’ve been to. The corn fritters and banana hotcakes were definitely the highlights for us. Their coffee and juice were delicious as well. The Meza platter was a little different but probably not something ill order for brunch, perhaps as a side for sharing. All and all, a beautiful cafe with great food!
Laura
Amazing meatball entree, and yummy breakfast options too, I’ve been here many times and the menu is delicious however the fried entrees aren’t my favourite but the meatball entree with polenta should not be missed. Lovely customer service also.

Zein’s Authentic is a cute Lebanese-inspired cafe/restaurant that’s pretty new to the brunch scene. Located on the busy streets of Heidelberg, the venue isn’t big, but it’s got a very rustic, home-y feel to it.<br/><br/>On this occasion we came for breakfast, but they also offer lunch and dinner options. The menu consists of some unique Lebanese dishes, and some of your regular brunch dishes with a Lebanese twist. We ordered a dish each and a sweet dish to share.<br/><br/>I decided on the Shakshuka, which was vegan! Instead of eggs, it contained chickpeas and a delicious vegan cheese on top. The chickpeas added a nice, soft texture to the dish and it was so flavourful. It’s served with grilled tilma bread which is amazing - it’s light and crispy and I do prefer it over sourdough! <br/><br/>The famous Zeins Fritters tasted as good as they looked. They were crispy and moist, cooked to perfection. It came with a dipping sauce which had a balsamic-like sourness taste to it - but I LOVE sour flavours and I found that it complimented the dish nicely! It made the dish very unique and I’ve never tried anything like it.<br/><br/>The Smashed in Beruit is Zein’s take on the classic smashed avo, and it’s a stunning dish! It comes with a beautiful vibrant beetroot hummus and topped with crumbled falafels. <br/><br/>The Way It’s Done In Lebanon is a feast in a plate! With eggs, yoghurt, sausages, halloumi, olives, and zaatar bread - you get the full experience. Definitely try it if you’re hungry!<br/><br/>Finally, we ended off with Zein’s Pancakes (vegan!) - and boy were they good! With caramelised banana and walnuts, and vegan coconut ice cream which was delicious. Not too sweet nor heavy, and the pancakes were fluffy and tall. A nice, light dessert that left us content but not sickly full! Loved every bite.<br/><br/>I also got the Tropical Romance juice which was lovely and refreshing. A slight sweetness and a super fresh taste from the mint. A great drink on a sunny day!<br/><br/>Lastly, the staff here were so friendly and service was so quick and accommodating. We loved our experience here! Thank you for having us!
Top Food Melbourne
What a find! These guys have combined modern Melbourne brunch with authentic Lebanese food and oh my goodness does it work. They have heaps of vegan and gluten free options on their gigantic menu so there is really is something for everyone in this middle eastern oasis!
The Brunch Specialist
Located along Burgundy Street Heidelberg, Zein’s Authentic serves up Lebanese food from breakfast through to dinner.<br/><br/>Visiting for brunch we ordered the Smashed in Beirut with an added poached egg and the way it’s done in Lebanon to eat, along with coffees and a berries bliss and choc twist smoothie to drink.<br/><br/>Our of the two dishes, the way it’s done in Lebanon was the standout. Featuring fried eggs, strained yoghurt, Lebanese sausages, halloumi, olives, cucumber, tomato & zaatar bread, the board was packed full of flavour and will feed the hungriest of appetites. The dish was beautifully presented and generously portioned. The smashed in Beirut offers a great twist on the classic smashed avo with the addition of falafel, sumac and zaatar spice.<br/><br/>The smoothies were nice and refreshing for a warm day. I highly recommend the choc twist, the chocolate peanut butter flavour was just delicious.<br/><br/>Overall I rate Zein’s Authentic 4 ⭐️ out of 5. If you love Lebanese food as much as I do I recommend that you check them out. Thanks very much for having me, Zein’s Authentic.

Food is fresh and generous portion sizes. Good variety on the menu. Staff are also on the ball. Coffee is great. Will be back to try the pancakes!

Customer service here is so poor. Very typical old school Lebanese mentality. They serve half pots of tea for the price of a full pot. The fridge was leaking all over the restaurant floor. I've been many times in the past. I rate the dinner menu but not the breakfast or customer service you're better off getting take away or going to other middle eastern restaurants in my opinion<br/>
Margarita Pracatan
I've had some nice food here and some mediocre food here. The management of this place however is consistently terrible. The owner was telling the chef to hurry up on my order because he "can't wait to get out of here". He was repeatedly rude and straight up made me feel like my patronage was an annoyance. When I've sat in, food has taken ages to come out. There is ALWAYS a staff/ chef wanted sign which makes me feel like the turnover rate is high. I can understand why underneath management like that. Dude- you clearly hate your job. Go do something else with your life.
Karl
Good tasty food with a different twist especially for breakfast . The menu sounded good and hard to choose but the flavours were amazing and sizes filling. <br/>Definitely will be back
Ironic Foodie
Picked up some takeaway from here on a Friday night for me and my partner after work. I didn’t order until I got there, not having Lebanese food for a while and not really knowing what to order. I was a little sketchy at first, as the restaurant was very quiet and it only has a 3.4 rating, but the staff were phenomenal at recommending dishes (absolutely must try the braised baby goat!) and in turn the food was delicious, hence, I’m not sure why it was so quiet! Reasonably priced for the serving sizes and would definitely go back!

FOOD WAS DREADFUL . Lettuce in my wrap was old & brown . Toilets are filthy and you have to go outside , up some dirty steps where staff are smoking  . All you can smell is the filthy rubbish bins at the back .It is disgusting and I cannot see how this is not a health risk

This place has great ambience, and we got off to a good start with a lovely waitress.  It started to go downhill when there was nothing gluten free available, despite the restaurant being directly opposite a supermarket where many gluten free products can be purchased.  We managed to get round it with some difficulty (half our group eat gluten free food, and we chose this restaurant based on its extensive GF offerings) and the food we had was delicious.  However, the clincher was that immediately after our meal, we were told we'd have to leave because the table was booked for other people.  This may have been marginally acceptable had we been blow-ins, but we'd made a booking and had barely been there an hour.  The owner seemed to have no interest in the fact that we'd booked based on all the GF offerings that turned out to be unavailable, and that we were then effectively being thrown out to accommodate others.  We'd had no bad interactions with anyone and hadn't even complained about the lack of GF food.  Not a professional way to run a restaurant.  All in all, an unfortunately very disappointing experience, the issues of which were completely avoidable with better organisation.
Susan
How can this place only have a 3.4?  The flavours are amazing, the service is outstanding, the coffee is good!  I had the meatballs on couscous (not a hope of pronouncing it correctly, so I won't even try to type it) and the flavours were wonderful.  The coeliac one had eggs & sausage (soukul?) on gf bread, and the sausage was amaaaazing.  So many of the menu items have gluten free options, it is a go-to place if you have food allergies!  I will be heading back here again, just to try some of the other things that looked yummy on the menu, but a girl can only eat one meal at a time!!
Lys
I love this little Lebanese restaurant it always impresses. Went for dinner this time and the food was amazing. Staff were lovely and the owner even gave us a taste of his arak! The food was well cooked and had some lovely flavours. I will definitely be a repeat customer!
Purple People Eater
Without being to rude, was 100% not authentic, please if your going to pick a cuisine, let’s make sure you do it, chicken rice is not risotto, and most of the food was from packet. Waitress was nice, owner didn’t want a bar of our feedback.
Mrs Mark
Had a lovely dinner here the other night. Service was attentive, friendly but not intrusive. We had the meatballs and eggplant for entree - both generous portion sizes and the lamb and prawns for main. All good choices in my book!
Quicksmart
Had coffee and cake with my 5 year old son and very impressed that the barista gave him a free baklava after he paid for the first one by himself, he was extremely chuffed! Those details make all the difference therefore I will be back. Great stuff!

Great location. Wait staff are lovely and professional. Food is great. Good to have a Lebanese spin on the traditional Aussie cafe. Unfortunately there was limited meals on the breakfast menu to my taste but the big brekky was great.
Hala Al-El
Had a group breakfast. Food was average. Manager/owner was not friendly. We did not feel like good hosts. Unfortunately I think it will be the last.
Chefosaurus
Good venue for local area. On street that has so many options for breakfast lunch or dinner this is a place that will not disappoint. The calamari was tender & tasty. Good option for a Friday night.
YesNoMelbourne
Nice local place that has Lebanese food with a modern twist. <br/>I had fatteh, which is chickpeas and fried Lebanese bread in yoghurt and tahini sauce. It was nice but I've had better. Maybe I'm being harsh because I know exactly how lebanese food should taste like. I wouldn't go back only because I know better places on the other side of Melbourne but I would recommend it for locals<br/><br/>The vanilla latte was nice, I enjoyed the coffee.
Robert Stephenson
Found this gem accidentally while looking for another place and decided to give it a go, we weren't disappointed. I had an eye fillet with potatoes, grilled beans and onions and the flavours were sensational. My wife and daughter shared a few entrees between them and similarly impressed. Quality was good, meal size was a little large, but great value. Definitely returning again soon, next time I plan to be a bit more adventurous and try some of the more traditional middle eastern dishes.
Daniel
Really nice food and atmosphere. It's a welcome addition to the Heidelberg food culture as it brings a unique flair. <br/>Casual coffee or sit down meal for a large group, you won't be disappointed.
Talitha
Couldn't fault it! Delicious coffee, breaky and sweet treats. Beautiful customer service too. Wish we lived closer so it could be our regular 😁

We booked our table through Zomato at 8pm and thn when we turned up they didn't had table for us...so they rudely told us they can't can't take our booking no matter what!!
John Maher
Very ordinary. Ordered prawns after being told they were shelled, came out unshelled. Menu not very exciting. Service left a bit to be desired. Food good but not special and overpriced. Would not go back.
Jessica
We recently came here for dinner and had the set menu which was lovely. Very generous servings that are full of flavour and well balanced. Very reasonable price. We left with full happy tummies.
Zomatoaddict
Over priced, poor quality , haven't been there for dining yet but tried takeaway a few times. Unfortunately were very disappointing experiences !
Svm
Very good coffee and Lebanese coffee is made authentically as well yum. Have had various meals here for something different and servings are generous and food is wholesome. Service is also very warm and friendly.
Tracey
I have been here a couple of times. The staff are lovely and friendly but probably need a bit more training from management. I dont blame the wait staff as they are only doing what they can. Maybe management could help by doing  some training sessions. i would hate to see staff lose their jobs if they were not trained properly.  Food is ok. The set up is lovely and inviting and love the cuisine.
MelbfoodCritic
I can't say it's the best or the worst. Consistency of quality & the taste bit different now & then at that place. Bit like home cooking but bit expensive compared to similar food you could get elsewhere. Good for a just a average casual dinning
Ali Al Joboory
Very simple shop, but great welcoming staff, nice menu and very good varieties of Lebanese cuisine<br/>Food is well prepared, feels like home made<br/>Such nice place for brunch, brekkie and lunch<br/>
Star Anise
Calling it - definitely the best breakfast on Burgundy street! Interesting menu, had the Lebanese sausage scramble and the halumi with poached eggs - both were totally delicious, packed with flavour! Cheap too - big hit. If they could improve their coffee a bit it would be the perfect breakfast spot!
Two Sheds
Great value byo option. Good honest Lebanese food which is very tasty. Nice service. Relaxed atmosphere. Good value all round. Lots to like, I'll be back.

Zein's....not to be mistaken with Zayn Malik, the former band member of One Direction....this one is much more enjoyable.<br/><br/>This new cafe/restaurant on that strip, I think there are three next to each other and another two not far. They really need to stamp their feet on the ground. The good thing is, they have an experienced operator, ex Cafe Amalfi- North Balwyn, they're no stranger to hospitality.<br/>Hence the great, simple set up that gives you welcoming middle-eastern dining ambiance, I feel that they should just tone down that Middle-Eastern music a bit. Canvas print posters, mod-mid-eastern lighting, treated Plywood tabletops (also on their walls), black modern cafe chairs, light, airy, nice tones.<br/><br/>On the food side; we've ordered 4 dishes from the breakfast menu:<br/>Jadolli: all good, just an over-cooked poached egg.<br/>Terwika K'abira: big breakfast version, all good.<br/>Zein's Smashed Avo: all good apart from the over-cooked egg.<br/>Shakshouki: highlight of the morning, you must order it rather than me telling you :-)<br/><br/>Their cut-up Lebanese bread is divine, it had been prepared and presented well, another highlight (see photos). <br/><br/>Great smoothies, not too sweet; banana cinnamon was the best, for me anyway. Lebanese coffee was served and presented well.<br/><br/>Can only improve from here I would hope....
